As will finish 2nd in there as regardless of the result by Munich and the former South Africa captain Graeme Smith has been appointed acting director of South Africa cricket's it comes ahead of England's toll that led to this month that spot for now is Morgan in an hour. B.b.c. Radio York where with Paul Hudson is one of 2 showers around at the moment otherwise he's dry tonight clear spells temperatures around freezing point watch out for icy patches for tomorrow then he said draw a bright start well into showers possible in the morning but cloud will increase and certainly later in the afternoon rain will spread from the southwest and some of that rain could turn temporarily to snow in the highest part of the Yorkshire Dales feeling cold highs of 6 Celsius that's 43 Fahrenheit very peaceful it's very friendly countryside it's beautiful people it's beautiful just living and loving. The. B.b.c. Radio you. Just like the chilling way one sleep to go before the general election and will out voting the latest on the campaign what's been going on here in Yorkshire playing I think it's key parts in this particular campaign we've got more coming up in just a moment what can the political parties do get high streets will be reporting from Skipton I'm going live in Selby Abbey ahead of tonight's b.b.c. Radio carol concert Oh and on the unlikely news the story behind the headline someone is putting cowboy hats on pigeons in Las Vegas. We like to keep it very it's 6 minutes past 5 so the round up we've been rounding up been going on in the election campaign today nationally with from Tony Boston your live from Westminster a little earlier on this catch up now with a.b.c. Radio its political reporter Gemma Dillon. On the part that Yorkshire has played because it has been front and center in this particular campaign Gemma and no lets up today. No let up it's all guess it just feel a funny old Wait doesn't it following that picture of the young boy on a pile of coats at Leeds General Infirmary and Boris Johnson's reaction to it when he was asked about about the picture by an i.t.v. Generalists which then sparked health secretary Matt Hancock's visit to the hospital to find out exactly what was going on that really catapulted Yorkshire into the election campaign at the start of this week and today we've seen both the Labor leader and the Conservative leader come to Yorkshire to try and shore up their votes now Boris Johnson he was up bright and early this morning delivering milk in West Yorkshire where he said the race couldn't be tighter and he's fighting for every vote Jeremy Corbyn the within the valley this afternoon and he told supporters there Labor offers a vote for hope and assured supporters they could win this thing now they're not the only to you have been in Yorkshire this afternoon we've also hosted the leader of the bracelet party Nigel Farage he's been in Doncaster really plugging away at those leaves 13 feet he currently have a Labor m.p. . The campaign almost over. You tell me one of the constituency that will be playing a key part in this come by because it's the sort of it's the it's the marginals that will. I suppose call the result of I guess the keys to number 10 and how powerful that person will be in the midterm whether there's a significant majority or not so which constituencies are you going to be keeping an eye on tomorrow. We say marginals jewels and if you well know North Yorkshire doesn't really have many of those but there are a couple of seats that are worth just watching 2 of them your counter and heritage forming part of this remain alliance so that means the Green Zone standing in those constituencies in an attempt to try and can follow date the remain vote there just for a bit of context your counter of course voted narrowly to remain in the European referendum back in 2016 but has been represented by a breakthrough to conservative Julian steady how to get Meanwhile they back to remain and whilst its conservative m.p. Did all slow and she Jones has since voted to get breaks it down so it would be really interesting in those 2 constituencies to see if the remain vote have managed to consolidate behind either Labor or the Liberal Democrats although they still remain divided thought they're just watching worth watching Scarborough and Whitby again could be interesting if it has the narrowest majority in North Yorkshire 3435 and they backed believed by a big margin in the referendum So again it will be really interesting to see how the vote plays out there yeah I mean normally under normal circumstances. It's not because it was that the things have changed it's not so much Conservative Labor Liberal Democrats as much as Leven remain in many places but there's been campaigning on other issues as well. Particular issues that have been relevant. And well it did isn't it Joe's I mean I think the parties this election was called Big cos of Bragg's it because Parliament couldn't move forward with it and but as ever a general election comes along and the voters they've got other issues they've got other priorities and it became really clear early on in the campaign the North was going to be a key battleground where votes could be won and lost in those traditional voting patterns of some really strong house and Northern seats that have been labor for years could fall and could go to the conservatives so all parties have been trying to make promises to the north things like the Liberal Democrats have been talking about more power to Yorkshire talking about the evolution and a Yorkshire parliament Labor have been talking about a regional manifesto that includes northern powerhouse rail and green jobs and the conservatives have also got promises supporting their northern powerhouse project but you know it's really easy to oversimplify and we voters are quite complex decisions don't just rest on one thing people are looking at a huge array of issues and they and the campaigning on. This particular election we've seen a lot. For many not necessarily a clean campaign will be made of it. What you know I think it's very similar across the country and I found it quite a unusual election in that we've not seen as many high profile visits to North Yorkshire as we maybe have in the past we've not had as many high profile interviews with senior politicians from all parties as we have in the past it's been a really strange one for us is generalised because so much has taken place on social media so it's really hard to gauge just what's going on as I say there's not been as many setpiece rallies I think what has gone through is voters have had a real Thursday for the facts they've been going to places like the B.B.C.'s reality check questioning what the politicians and telling them that they want to they want the facts and they don't necessarily believe what they're being presented by the main parties they've been wanting to seek out their own knowledge I think that's been really interesting in seats now polls will close at 10 o'clock tomorrow night's Sunderland will declare 1st they always do not show about North Yoshi I think women have to weigh a fair old time but coverage through the night then here Gemma b.b.c. Radio York. Absolutely yes top team in place for you Joe as we've got Russell will come with me for the 1st few hours till 1 o'clock then don't both be chill thinks and then of course Georgie stunt will be with that with you from 6 o'clock in the morning reporters out right across the patch earth all the counts making sense of the athletes images what the exit poll might say and then the reality of dawn begins to break up the voice holds out Gemma thank you very much you want to thank you. Gemma Del and political ripple. That's going to latest on the roads is David. Thank you just one lane close now on the m one South by South of 40 want to get to 48 following and actually your cues right the way back as far as 44 Rothwell a good health of their own c.j.d. At least a 661 how to get Road 3 spots with very slow teacher road works and you'll find delays to Scarborough on funny road around the Queen Margaret road lights now apart from that all seem to be fairly healthy at the moment back with more aid sign 15 minute. We're all suffering a bedsit radio the something around I'm a big crowd is a big cable all of a cable Fortunately the. B.b.c. Radio you. Just. Write. Look of Love that a.b.c. It's something the half minutes past 5 now and earlier this year the number of retail outlets vanishing from Yorkshire's high streets hits a 5 year high. I think we'll well aware of the pressure on the shops in the high streets not least from online. Providers and whether that makes you feel that you ought to be doing something more to support the high street I don't know I think it's all down to pounds shillings and pence possibly and this week skip since largest department store closed its doors coffee kill it's been spending the day in Skipton finding out what the politicians can do for retailers Skipton High Street was famously awarded Best High Street in Britain because of its winning mix of independent shops and high street names but that was in 2008 more than a decade on its retailers a feeling squeezed this handmade chocolate shop had to move off the beaten track because business rates on the high street were too high only Michelle Knight has also in short had business office plenty of choices for consumers shopping needs to be an experience for a life he is making the chocolates. Ray can smell the chocolate customers like that you like the authenticity We've also diversified as well we offer experiences now like a chocolate workshops we're trying to do more business to business and also we have an online presence online shopping isn't going to go away we have to try and make it work for us across town cravin station is also selling online as well as in person but they don't feel particularly well supported in their business we pay very high rates to the local authority we seem to get very little back and no support carpark charges a very high. Lots of traffic wardens and that's because it's a tourist town but that doesn't help locals and it doesn't help local businesses and it's a niggle I hear from my customers all the time. A symbol of the struggle is reckons Skitt tins flagship department store closed at the weekend it is a body blow for the town so what are the politicians offering to stop the rot that's look in the shop window. The Conservatives have pledged 3600000000 for a town's fund to boost regeneration that also cut taxes for small retailers Labor will review business rates and put free business advisors in every post office the Liberal Democrats will expand the high streets fund and replace business rates with the Land Value Tax so owners pay rather than tenants which of the deals will tempt the voters Thursday is our last chance to decide and it is spending the day in skips and the high street day mornings from sakes Georgie and breakfast time I think you might be have us on I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here next year I'll say on Sunday if you are listening right now out of every text from Sarah she says I'm a Celebrity water wonderful idea doing started say reach name would you like to adopt a jungle Georgie or Georgie out there jungle was going to move from Georgia Georgia just Giorgio not sure. Prove what we're doing is football and we're all all equal in that respect I've been the top couple of days I'm sure for for Jessie and Fred and we just have to help these the other people as well to talk to some their behavior is important in cricket England's women face Pakistan in their 2nd one day international in the early hours of tomorrow morning Tommy Beaumont and Dani Wyatt's both hit centuries in England's 1st o.d.i. Win on Monday teammates and you can build on those tones they are incredible I think probably quite contrasting that showed as there's more than one way to score a 100 so I think for Dan it's a great confidence based back up the order where I think everyone knows she wants to bat in the same with time she'll probably say it was one of the most for hundreds of 100 people it's called me International 100 so amazing for those 2 and a great platform for us going on in the series the film a South Africa captain Graeme Smith meanwhile has been appointed acting director of South Africa cricket it becomes the head of England's tell that led to this month England's opening tests on Boxing Day And century in. In Ruby league new as we call blacks of appointed form your costs forward Christian Edge is the new head coach he takes over at the option men's league from club from former Knights player Jack Stammen judge says his priority is to carry on the work done of the past few years this 1st season get back into I just want to see me join the cells and I want to I want to look at all the players and I want to make it as I want people to come down off on and off from work where can I be in fair and if results come from the sponsor stick you know but I think probably this 1st year would use of same armor and the British heavy weight delay in White has been reinstated as w.b.c. That's Little Rock Yes well go those services 1st because Selby are a beautiful as. It is beautiful Christmas tree at the far end and there's a new person going on we've got Francesca gold out who's going to be doing one of the solos she's prancing in the moment singing in the bleak midwinter and the b.b.c. Where your band is going up as well which you might also gave to. The Abbey is going to be full tonight at 7 o'clock people need to be coming along here they're telling the Nativity. Story the Christmas story in the context of 950 years of the Abbey so we'll be having a little bit of the history of the Abbey itself within the Christmas story as well and it is it's a terrific way of starting Christmas in the. Way it is yes I mean it gets again going to sing for a few carols we got a couple you faithful a little town of Bethlehem Silent night holy night and of course we finish off with all the holding to sing as a final count will be sung all Richard listen are you busy Oh you've got things to do places to be well places to be that based on other things to do so we'll let you get on with it but if you fancy going along. Just getting into the complete spirit of Christmas. And be seated by 7 as you heard Richard say there and well just enjoy it and it will be broadcast here on b.b.c. Radio York later on. Now than. The last time I heard from Paul it was. Banging on about if you fancy voting in the July better make it a morning vote rather than the afternoon vote is that still the case the ball it most certainly Yeah I think it's a gets out of bed. I get to the polling station I think I was really dead I mean I know this rain coming. Days complicated from the fact there's a few showers ahead of the main weather system but the main weather front comes through during the afternoon. You know so it's you know you know as panicked if you live here across North Yorkshire but you know the Yorkshire Dales kind of a bit of snow over the tops as well and they do I see research into this down there and they did say that you know if the weather is now it doesn't actually affect the now. Yes I think you know certainly interestingly enough on the news channel have been talking about some of these marginals and the been talking about Keithley which of course that's my hometown but part of Keith's constituency which is on a knife edge includes Howard which is nearly a 1000 feet up in the pan and so there's every likelihood that the could be some snow there later tomorrow afternoon so they're well used to it they'll go out and all well. That's what I mean it could be I mean you can just imagine it's going to be one of those days where we'll look out the window are past the and we'll think Goodness me it's dark already. So I mean it's conceivable isn't it people you know gets to tomorrow evening can't be bothered to go out because it's chucking it down and it's freezing cold so you can imagine it might affect turnout who knows but it's another variable Well I should be walking the dogs tomorrow and casting my vote at the same time a very good that's that's what I should be doing 1st thing is so there's the other open right go on then. Give us give us the lowdown we are sort of at the already but you can put some more details to it yes Ok Well we've got a few showers actually this afternoon is want to knocking around at the moment so I'm sure the gritters will be busy tonight because skies clear all of though there will be a breeze there's going to be a widespread slight Frost icy patches temperatures around minus one Celsius that's the degrees Fahrenheit so for Thursday it's a cold potentially icy start otherwise it's dry and bright the be some hazy sunshine around it is going to cloud over through the morning indications suggest the rain will come on to the Dalles mid to late morning and then spread eastward slowly through the afternoon and it may well be preceded by some hill snow for a short period of time with the wind will freshen I think through the afternoon it does turn quite unpleasant cold wet and windy highs of 6 or 7 degrees Friday in the weekend then much brighter will be. Sunny spouse a scattering of showers and again the chance of showers over the tops might be a little on the wintry side that's the forecast for b.b.c. Radio York chose Paul thank you thank you bye bye. Vanities unlikely news. Biz a headline you don't see every day of the week and it certainly attracted my attention someone is putting cowboy hats on pigeons in Las Vegas. And no one knows why a rodeo was in town but they denied any involvement people in Vegas began spotting the birds this week sporting that tiny cowboy hats and posting pictures of them online and on social media. That's what brought them to the attention of Mariah Hilman who runs a lofty hopes a bird rescue group amused the 1st she then thought I'm going to get out at those get on the birds and crucially stay on when we saw them today you could you could see some loose feathers she says in the glue around the hats it's definitely a concern yes people are gluing hats and. That's bogus police say it doesn't appear to be a police matter at this time meanwhile the rescue group of put traps out to try to nab the birds to prise the house off them but so far they've been unable to well had them off at the pass. The next up to Brazil. Where one of the president's balls and arrows top officials to culture is declaring war on rock n roll worryingly this is down to a month of Ami who is the newly appointed head of the National Arts Foundation so no biggie that. He's just issued the claim that and I quote rock music leads to drugs which leads to abortions which feeds into something much more serious Satanism. Because on to criticize Elvis Presley's. The one John Lennon for entering into a pact with the devil remember this is the government official in charge of culture . Also blames rock music for destroying morals in America and accuses the CIA of involvement by being responsible for handing out l.s.d. It would stop. In the 1950 s. He says this so-called evidence Elvis Presley so-called That was his name this so-called Elvis presently emerges with rock music that makes everyone bounce and shake their heads. This is when certain behaviors stop being introduced he says. You know when any of the malarkey. And the Ministry of Culture and the Bolton are out now spookily comes under the remit of the ministry of citizenship in Brazil while it's head. Equally spookily born in 1904 doesn't like Elvis does does like one Bob does not want to somehow fresh metal rock Galt's Metallica given the months of on endorsements he says they alone are worth listening to when you're driving in traffic you'll feel a bit sad. And finally to Louisiana for an early contender for incompetent criminal of the week 43 year old John Cook who's currently helping police with their cars. It seems suspicions were raised at the outstandingly lucky run that Cook's family were having on the bingo games that while funny enough he was actually calling police say a video catches Coke hand-picking the balls he wants to play and then I think the winner until he was ready to win the game he was also seen speaking with the winners before the game again with 2 win as afterwards which showed him clearly being given money it seems Cooke won thousands for a number of friends and family and is now going looks like he'll be spending Christmas in the big house. Disco the latest. I think I'd have a completely different different type of job if everyone was listening to Metallica all the time and the cost structure and then. The film have a bit more to talk about that's on. The southbound from $44.00 down towards junction $42.00. Very heavy and very very slow this is old and when I. Stood on the m one south on the what's next and for you want to. Back towards $44.00 south of there. You go next in the tailbacks as well which is taken at the inside it's a very heavy and very slow just south of 244 rough Well let. Me go where the road busy through stuff with on how to get road slow on the end 19 to the north of you want to Clifton at towards war and the $1070.00 busy around Grimston. 15 minutes. On chocolates and everyone so when it's been so radio lets you know missing. Now this is a trip down memory lane being organized saving and no feel I the full social media and online and Whatsapp and Facebook and Twitter and all the rest of them there was a radio it's modest to be able to converse with people all over the well. People different yourself is something new to say broadens your outlook. Have a josh next to you know d.f.l. Great article about him having spoken here for about 6 months g.l.k. London Calling h.p. Expo great come in Belgrade. She says she's. Just challenged. She's got people's backs all right no doubt it's got. The already. Right King's poem to Queen's Bishop 3 years just as. She used to. Oh I take it on give me a call next week oh by the way thanks for the booklist of a bitch. Yes pretty good at it so if I've been a fool I. Was a try to stop in the post I hope you like it. Good bye for next week. In the radio ham of cross and so Knights a group of c.b. Radio enthusiastic taking the trip as a side down memory lane in North Yorkshire taking Apple going to communicate with each other on equipment pretty much the I think it was using them to listen but in a vise called time out say well let's let what is equal sign on the shelf a time No 2 I want I select good it won't kill says now that Alpha Taggart So it was so that I mean that was a classic sketch from a file or. If you like gently taking the Michael outs of you know persuasion but so tell us what's what's happening this evening. Well I mean like yeah yeah Hancock great and cossies 'd anything that make our radio ham which of course is entirely. The slight difference between the 2 and say the radio is kind of like it was always to do with 'd anybody could do it you know in the same way that even you can do Facebook 'd or whatever you like you know you can. You know we never actually stopped doing 'd this but tonight what we're actually doing is with all of this I did to get our old radios out of October the sense of I'm sort of very old it out back to the 1970 s. Stuff. Stuff that was really made for the inside of a truck and the trucks probably been demolished years ago but 'd we kept the radio so they think this really was big in the checks and I mean obviously back in the UK When was it was is this really was it the seventy's they see c m McCoy or whatever it was cold and going convoy or whatever it was well that was in the eighty's of course at the 8 sailors in the seventy's it wasn't legal odd really sudden stop people do it and. You know you know we got a lot of old stuff it was legal in America of course but not over here at the time . So at and I you know people we meet up every weekend. So I just thought I'd be really good round round about Christmas to other fish around and get our old radios out and that's what we do it and of course this will involve a fault 'd. Now simply mad things on the top of hills. And I will our folks up on Gallagher Hill tonight will be people also with people on the Winter Hill in Lancaster town Ellyn know in Richmond and you know right down as fast casted tot Lincoln said. All over the north of England the people from the angel of the north right down to 'd the south of the Dallas a day or so now it's a good thing it's great fun nice one just just for the heck of it because you've got the equipment from 40 years ago See going to use it yeah we're going to get mean like nowadays we have much more sophisticated and electronically stabilized equipment we've gotten to see. But. We're getting the l stuff out of I've already seen some little videos of pay for stuff in our country Wow I didn't get one of those frogs you know and there are so the amazing things you know . Talking to each other on 40 year old radios is you know it's interesting they have a certain different sound Of course if. You like a lot of people who like vinyl that had to be seasoned and have a. It's got a different sound a lot the sound of that Ok so I mean this was the social media all the time was Nate way before the Internet the way before the Internet and of course you know when we did all sorts of things you 'd know we could talk to each other back then and with you know if we'd actually really wanted to we could send each a little picture of a cast. Or anything else oh well they might say just. Realizing it is sending a picture of a cat used to take considerable longer. 'd now you know. But I think that you know we had a wall to it. Knew the tones of people's voices you often didn't know that faces it was the opposite way around the Internet you know you knew what they sounded like he didn't know what he thought of that part of the Great fun of it was the 1st time you know that somebody's been talking to them for a year and then it well you. And I listen that they have a great night so now it sounds like you're going to have a blast and thanks for coming oh yeah absolutely no problem at all thank you have yourself to. Take care of are you very much on the terrace and all but and then as we work one song on it. Is that it. Involved. With. What is now is weather delays as you heading south. Fairly busy I want to get to. Sail and it's by there's a problem that's all down the road works at the top of the bank and the a 19 and still to the south of York. Getting back to normal now north of Newcastle towards Edinburgh following their overhead line problem address. And he would appreciate you call the travel 14849. 6 o'clock this is Robbie Williams time for change. Don't you. If you see news at 6 Good evening I'm any fear in Teenie the leaders of the main political parties have been traveling the country making their final plea for votes ahead of tomorrow's general election with a series of final day rallies tonight Boris Johnson has been making the case to get bricks it done Jeremy Corbyn has been focusing on improving public services while the Liberal Democrats have been campaigning to stop bricks it leader Joe Swinson says the fight isn't lost I'm not giving up on stopping right but that is what we are fighting for we get a lot of conversations in the future but we are fighting to remain in the European Union I'm absolutely clear that it's still possible for us to achieve that new trains and a new timetable should improve services between New York Scarborough and Manchester Airport that's the message from trans pennon Express recently they cancel 14 trains in one day and over the last few weeks has been a lot of cancellations through North Yorkshire The company has apologized Catherine O'Brien is from the rail operator she says the changes will make a difference for customers this timetable to see improvements in capacity and were expanding the routes so the train there was essential to be able to do that and also offer you know the increase in the cost of the crying out for.
