Yes 50 full in foreign Heights a great place to live for those offended people began to use abusive for just such a lesson as it should fall to genuine I speak Creole living in New York Jonas and gala. B.B.C. Radio you. Good morning with you for a month I hope you had a good weekend over the weekend I cannot believe that you wouldn't have thought about they say and maybe even discussed it with all the family members hearing the news this weekend that the pole pole folks of bridge. Threatened by this dam these people who have had to move out. Because of the danger they have been allowed back in one person per household for a period of just 15 minutes to grab something of significance something that they really need passports family heirlooms maybe the computer if I said to you what one thing would you take from your home given that limited time and these dreadful circumstances was one thing matters to you it would matter to you in such circumstances so much that you'd have to take about things give me a call it's a 100 trouble 14849. That whole is me is a guy who are all the fabulous things and happy think out with you Monday morning the 5th of. Your weekend when. Someone filled yesterday at the wonderful talk with. Bring you news. Impressed myself and my fellow judge yesterday a bit later in the program we got in some very very serious discussion yesterday about what makes a good on those some fantastic ones to try yesterday and it was just it was a pleasure today would just be Paul. Lot of talk with show cause it was just it is just one of those fantastic community events that is just so nice to see everybody come together and get involved in all competitions and the fun than the food and the displays next missions and all the rest of it was great the pie competition who has won the silver salver for the best Yorkshire pie in 29 team or will be revealed if you don't already after 11 o'clock on the program this morning 1st though a really serious issue I cannot believe that you won't have this thought won't have passed through your own mind at the weekend hearing about the dreadful dilemma I mean all 4 dial Emma faced by some of the poor people of Wally bridge as you know hundreds of people have had to leave their homes because of the threats of the dam bursting but they have been allowed back one member of the household at a time in Penny numbers as it were over the course of the weekend listening out for 3 long blasts on the horn a car horn which signifies that the dam has broken or is in danger of breaking and then they have to get out they have to run for it basically they've been allowed to go back to their homes to take something that matters to them and I just wonder in your in the similar situation what would you do OK what would you do in a similar situation what would you take Would it be a family heirloom would it be a pet would you've left the pet behind in the 1st place but would it be a family heirloom you know I mean we've got a an old jug that seems to been in the family for I don't know decades and decades would it be my responsibility to say that's what it be the computer with all your holiday information on all your you know your banking details a maybe thousands and thousands of holiday photographs and family photos stored on that maybe it would be the old family photo albums and love to know put in this impossible situation let's face the good folks of Wally bridge if you had to make a decision. A Maybe it's something we all think of actually it's you know most of us would perhaps face a disaster like a father for example what one thing would you take love to know give me a cold place tell me how a 100 trouble 14849 or on the text trouble free start your message with the word yoke free 500 travel 14849 text the word York followed by your message to a 13 level 3 texts a chance to your standard message rate see our previous scene 18 and B.B.C. Give me a call and let me know oh a 100 treble 148491 the text 81 trouble 3 Start your message with the word Yorkies not a quiz question it's not trivial it's really quite serious I mean it's a genuine situation faced by people in welly bridge at the moment about what they take from their homes I'm just a few thoughts about given the same circumstances what the seats that you would rescue Jonah's on the line this morning good morning show Morning oh now I know that voice is Joe Morrison in Multan it's no good morning. How to think about this here where my family been waiting bridge over they don't do that a good heavens what sort of what circumstance of a in. Their own that hadn't been evacuated just so much by watching them she is quite high up but of course I know the people that have been interviewed I know I know the reservoir and. It's very very traumatic I can imagine it would be good because it's coming down from the peak she say we have if we have a river it's coming down from the North Yorkshire Moors maybe couple of days late. She's quite high up but. She's going to have time if they are evacuated she's warned but if the people who you knock on the door and say out they haven't come to grab things a question as a people I mean the police sound quite often whether he's angry is the word all a little desperate with some people that they haven't actually gone because what they're saying is not only are you putting your own lives at risk by refusing to leave when it's you've been advised officially that you'd be better off ounce of that but you're putting the lives of responders of ambulance fire people up but you put the one that lives at risk I can see both sides of a very muddy frightening numbing it's something you never dreamed would happen and it eats and sex too I mean you know I was thinkin about Ali and I was thinking when she's able to put in some step together hope she takes a poacher pill or deal with that. Good boat yes to go OK I lost some I had a friend in my loft and I lost quite a lot and once a water damage on him repaired them or anything and it's been a trauma so we can't I'm going to go this week and I just don't know what's happening. So I mean in your case. I mean for those who don't know your daughter Claudia when went missing several hit my many years ago now. In your case then faced with similar circumstance he's not a damn he's likely to break new you but in a situation where you had to evacuate your home. Would be a picture of Claudia Oh it would be the family pictures not just Girl idea. Of 2 daughters and their equally important it would be the family family photographs. What about what about the all the things that you know I mean so many pets Unfortunately I wish I had. Right that would have to be a priority wouldn't it I understand there's a cockatoo flying around somebody out in where the bridge relay you know about to change yeah that's that there's a bit of a dilemma no with a rally because I mean as a said I for some reason been intrusted temporarily with that's been knocking around in the family for years and years and years I would hate to think that I would be the one that would let each perish in a fire overflowed or something like that on the all the hands that is a computer and it's got the holiday photographs from all of days for the last 10 or 15 years computer so I would have to have the albums one time thing that are absolute and if you've got 5 family for because I mean they're also family photograph albums that not knocking around for a modern know the 1920 S. 930 S. Maybe even back yard Those are not those but I brought them of the grandchildren ready in my family and how did you photographs as you say. Yeah probably as soon as I don't have any really big one now you know because I've downsized so. Most of it's in things like jewelry in things like that which are recent to transport on May Yeah I think everybody ought to think about lace I think that's I think it's one of those we must do this in our household just have a 50 minute chats over to you all night about the White House you don't think it's going to. But then the people are people and what he brings to a jam or next year all the time wondering about the rain didn't come yesterday when it come to day. And it's a knock on effect so on on that business. You can't get petrol you can't go into town for food. It's just so awful you know I was going to go down for my bet that if we got out early and I share a bed they were right. After wait we won't be able to get in and we won't we can't get out and so we just have to wait and see well if and when you see it would you take our love and best wishes Yes Oh well oh lovely speech of this morning Joan Laurence of course mother of Claudia Lawrence but mother of all the children as well and it would be those photographs those precious things that she would safe in those circumstances have you thought about Lisa I think this is a white coal to every household in the country to think about what you'd actually take because in those crises circumstances of a flood or a fire or something else happening the really isn't time to think about it you probably need to have thought about it in advance this is what we take so what would you take Would it be you know the antique The family heirloom the thing that's passed down from generation to generation it's now your responsibility would it have to be your medicines your drugs would it be the computer or something entirely different I'd be fascinated to know if you're thinking about it this morning I'm sure you've thought about it hearing the news story about a bridge over the weekend. In a crisis what one would you choose to take coldly place a 100 trouble 14849 what you say this morning might be really useful to somebody else because if you found it a wise thought about what you would actually need ultimately over and above everything else you might just spark somebody else to think good idea so they're all madam We'll put that on our most grab least as well it's hundreds trouble 14849 it's a free cold about number few pence to send me a text message it's warm you start your message please with the word yolk and of course you can tweet and you can text and you can e-mail to Jonathan B.B.C. You can be. leg or little end. I'm going to love me again from Elton John is 21 minutes past 9 this traffic and travel news on its way in around about 4 minutes time so if you know about the oceans roads now is a good time to cull through 100 travel 14849 and pass on those fragments of travel news that may be of use to all the radio listeners I do see that after the closure due to the burst water main the X.P. Road in New York is open again and Julie Gates of course has been a now for a few days so traffic generally speaking flowing through smoothly around the city but we'll get the lowdown from David James in a few minutes Tom what one item would you take if you were faced with the same die lemme as the good folks all for Whaley Bridge the moments you give me a call and tell me I'm sure you probably have to think about this over the course of the weekend and certainly spot me to have a think OK what would I take let's speak to our good friend opinion panelist and afficionado of the Selby food bank is with us on the line this morning good morning Mark morning Jonathan So here's a question and it's just one of those Don Lemon's that I think perhaps we all ought to consider Certainly if you have a thought what would you take. My good lady to present me sit down and I would discussing this weekend that silly and. You know all the see I would say if she could manage a self and Pet Dog Month say up that's really important that's very good of you so you get the dog and the wife the wife and the dog in that order well you know not necessarily in that order but that's certainly thought that when it comes down to things are I actually thought like I would say my I would you know my laptop not because I'm a nerd but I've got all my photos and everything on it but they're all their lies I got all that backed up so it's not so important that say that you know because I can access those photos and memories and phone numbers a set of smells where but I do have a file box hollow sort of a society one well keep things you know well here. Bely passports some of the children certificates over the years small momentos. Don't go on the computer or haven't the scandal whatever or some photos of my parents about having a scan thing yet you know memory is such about it's like a family box a memory box insurance sees things like that I would grab that box because it would make life a lot easier if I had that I might go out I might countering from what you're saying that you are a you sort of cloud storage which many people use but it will be it'll come as news to some people in the research thing where you back something up to a remote computer that's not actually old Certainly not see if you ask this question about 4 years ago said all of my computer so I have my life on their photos you know going back years of the children and family of things either but I do actually have everything backed up on cloud storage and I have see use that when my computer suddenly popped up once I mean just went completely that couldn't be saved and then I got another computer and I just downloaded everything overnight it was a as if I've never lost my computer so busy I've got on so that So recommend that anyone no matter how you back it up OK So it's a tick in the box really of something that you've got that you don't need to take in those circumstances but they got things like the men so you see or I don't know something given to you by your mother or father who may have you know may still be alive or passed on you know it's things like that and I'll call them a pot so I put things in and I would grab that box the things that are replaceable lovely speech of this morning bonus fairly frequent visits this was an opinion palace on a Monday and well the man who runs the Selby food bank the state's former head teacher and that's still back it up to the crowds and you don't need to take the computer because he's not all. Stoled locally you've got a backup of it somewhere else but you do take those irreplaceable things. What about him who is on the line from a committed morning in lining Jonathan in the circumstances in the hypothetical but who knows for any one of us it may become real in the events of some kind of disaster some kind of emergency what do we take of you decide it probably a little black bag that I have busy with a few of my last ice axes and. I lost power last year and they undertake assured busy me. A jewelry company that you can have legs can have and in savings made 9 can have rings and I had a ring Meg with some of past axes and so obviously they did take us and the file is to the jewelry company and they're busy rich and what they didn't need so that would go along with the ring as well. A little black bag stands on interns as a sort of all. Obviously I see every day but that's that's the most important thing for you to hear to say that's lovely and I think you live you'll have touched number of people in me included by by saying that this morning I haven't thought of anything quite as close quite as personal as that. Aside aside from that if I gave you a 2nd thing to choose and obviously from your point of view that's that momento of your wife would be very important what else would you would you pick. Up to me by several. Well you could you could you could cycle away from whatever theoretical disaster it was on the bike presumably. That's to go if it was like he was in the last week after going you'd have to go quite a lick in funk you very much indeed in a Can who would take that little bag with his wife's ashes at it and then he's bike What would you take time every breath I think to think about this particularly difficult decision because of the crisis moment you won't have time to think about it so it might be a good idea to do it now. Let's find out what's happening on North Yorks was roads and roads around the city of York David's with us at the travel center morning David how's it looking Greetings reasonably fit a little bit busy if you're traveling on the air 19 around with the bridge down toward degre you've got road works there which will slow you down as well restrictions on the A 658 as you're heading west of how to get through North Ridge in towards Hubie above and beyond that all seems to be fairly fit so far no major headaches or hassles to content with everything seems to be fine as you travel into and out of Scarborough and it's all good on public transport about anything would appreciate you call on the Travel line I would 100 trouble 14849 thank you very much indeed David will be back to the travel team in half an hour's time. Coming up in an hour's. Time we'll have a chat to our opinion panelists Robert Beaumont's and Abigail Scott Paul Roberts Oh I don't know Robert is a journalist a P.R. Consultant is. An expert in so many things got fascinating family history that he shared with us on the program before now to do with the partition of India. And he's going to be one of our opinion panelists and Abigail Scott Paul should be joining us to Abigail works with the Joseph Rountree Foundation they've just been nominated as one of the top charities in Britain for a very prestigious award I have no doubt she'll want to mention that and we'll put this question to them as well allow us to what would they take from their home given some extreme disastrous circumstances and we'll talk about the latest pronouncements of one President Trump I will find out what it is that they are doing to keep themselves healthy because well a very very elderly gentleman 100 something has just passed away but apparently one of the secrets to a long and happy life was eating porridge so I wonder what Robertson Abigale are doing to make sure they live a long happy and healthy life they will tell us their secrets on mobile problem to think about leaving a long healthy and happy life half past 10 this morning and in 45 minutes of course who has the phone with no home over the weekend we shall find that out too from. The B. From 12 and now Jonathan. B.B.C. Radio you're. In the mean time I am fascinated to share this morning and tell me given the circumstances faced by the people in bridge in or another circumstance where a crisis hits your home and you've got to get out there pretty darn quick what one do you absolutely have to take I love to know what you'd nominate me please it's a 100 trouble 14849 or text 81 trouble 3 Start your message with the word York. Hello. That was. It. It's all a bit strangely spooky isn't it brother Muslims faith and New York on B.B.C. Radio York weather for the county today it's not exactly been continuously sparkling over the weekend has it but we'll see what is going to do this week is today certainly any early cloud around will clear a way to leave things mostly sunny and dry through the afternoon feeling a touch cooler than it did yesterday today of 22 degree Celsius 72 Fahrenheit tonight it'll start off dry and clear but cloud will build in from the southwest after midnight and towards dawn Samit cheap Mitchie Misty patches are likely lows overnight tonight of of much more comfortable than we've had it of late certainly 10 Celsius that's 50 degrees Fahrenheit and I can find the forecast here part of the forecast unfortunately I'll tell you what's happening tomorrow because you need to plan. Tomorrow. You go around your business can see it's tomorrow scattered showers will push in from the southwest from early on and continue through the afternoon a few of these may turn back with rumbles of thunder in places atop temperature tomorrow of 21 Celsius 70 Fahrenheit and yeah that's the way it's looking for tomorrow again the weather taking an unknown seasonal turn for the Rainier I suppose you had breakfast Have you ever been on the tandem never been on a time until now you see and this is the things I was all right let's put it on the list the bases who should go from here should go back to me what do you think you make I'm sinking and I simply should be on the back of the back seat driver I'm not sure about you staring at me like I ever will strip to go come. Right here we go. Down the back. Roads she spends way she breaks. I'm pulling. Over. From 6 C.B.C. Radio. Bicycle made for 2 very interesting experience riding a time to 25 minutes to 10 asking you this morning just to think about the situation the faces the people of Wiley bridge What do you take in an emergency like that where the emergency services say I'm terribly sorry sir or madam or family you've got to go you've got to get out of here for the sake of life and limb What do you take with you all the people of Haiti bridge are allowed back for a terribly terribly short time window of 15 minutes in their case if it's just down to one thing what are you going to grab and if you have ever faced the situation I'd be fascinated to hear from you what did you take. Because I'm guessing that in those emergency situations there's very little time to think so making this decision in advance might be a darn good idea let's talk to Allison who's on the line from Donington Good morning Alison good morning. What would you take. Well I was in a situation in Christchurch New Zealand when there was an earthquake really rather large earthquake and I kind of window and got out of the house and then a bit later I saw her well someone took me up and said well you need to take that taking things you've got you've just got to do it my mind went completely blank and I thought. So I took my pants I take my passport given that I was in New Zealand and might want to go back to the quay and then I would really like to take my photographs but they were behind a door closed door that was everything is falling off the shelves I couldn't get into cupboard where the where the photographs were so I I took some clothes and since a little thing and and ran basically I didn't think we Smalling you know I was not actually end up speaking to someone who'd really really be in a crisis situation my advice is what me what you said initially almost was but your head go your head goes blank what do I need more than than anything else absolutely just what we're going to begin to hide you said we are going to take your financial papers do you take your heirlooms take. And a New Zealand because earthquakes are quite a regular occurrence you are the government encourages you to have an earthquake to be earthquake prepared which means that you've got bottles of water you've got to include stored somewhere safe and if you live if you work somewhat quite far away from home that we have but got you walking but it's a lethal work home because it won't really will do any you know meet transport because it was all stuffed or Munter disease the same question which was the word of the moment mounted cover thing was absolutely stuffed up completely wheelbarrows or as a guest as a tourist to you living there at the time you know it's living there at the time right I've been there for about 8 years. Yeah about 8 years of the time I was there so I have to work this one off but do you do you did you face the situation more than once all well there was an earthquake in Christchurch in September and I had to have been the time you got back the next you know couple days later so I haven't really experienced that but the big earthquake integrity 1011. I think people don't realize that when with quakes happening or they talk about the big you know it's a 7.2 to scale but in the next year it was 15000 aftershocks probably call aftershocks but an aftershock was an earthquake so you don't actually know one before the big one happened I don't know it started to shake like I'm alone or just going to be a big one and I don't actually have any memory of the 25 seconds that it lasted but when I kind of came to look at it not that I was knocked out or looking I had broken ribs but I wasn't conscious something hitting me but all my books on the floor my bookshelf in full no for doors were closed I couldn't I had to climb up the window. What a situation to to describe and to live through I mean you know touch wood most of us never have to go through what you went through what is it up just a farm a cell thinking and you know for the psychologically for the people of Wiley bridge and doubly sure as well psychologically what do you think it does to you as an individual to be in. A crisis situation like this where in that case you know there are millions of gallons of water potentially going to come and inundate vacuum unity and damage their homes maybe even destroy their homes and tight life and that you facing an earthquake what do you think being in a situation like that does to you as an individual does it does it shake your faith does it make you nervous or does it strengthen you as a person. And probably all of the above I think they at the time that it's happening you just have to deal with it and we get only do whatever we have to do in my case in Christchurch we were we were able to clear the House and the next 2 days but then the landlord said you know going back in again because every time we went back cracks of things which I hear. My daughter said about 9 months later to me she says you need to go get countryman because everything you do is related to the earthquake. And I don't know I think it it strengthens you because you know you can you can survive but I also feel that people underestimate the time that it actually takes to rebuild your life and I in my case I left New Zealand. Not just because of the earthquake but because of him into the under into another and I decided to send him a little message and actually come back so you can. But it does take unto rebuild a life and I think. And and let me just say well you know we can't depend on what we have always depended on the whole. When your daughter said to you sorry to ask us and tell me to back off when you've had enough when your daughter said to you Mom everything you're doing in life sort of is revolving this this earthquake experience is dominating your life too much did you agree with her could you see what she meant what did she mean. I suppose. I don't know really I mean I have to say that as a result of the earthquake I went off and became a volunteer for 2 years and Happy New Guinea which is completely different novel experience. It just naturally value her life like like any big decisions in a horrible medical diagnosis or something you look at things differently and and and it makes you look at your house and you think well what's really important to me and and at the end of the day so she still alive and you breathing and you relatively undamaged is not an ortho about. I think that's a message we could all take away with us today thank you ever so much indeed for calling the program Allison and sharing that with us this morning I had no idea obviously and I never know what's going to happen really as we start the program in the morning I certainly no idea that someone who'd lived through the the Christ Church New Zealand earthquake was was going to call the program might give me 3rd for thought this morning good to have you on the show thank you for thank the ringing in thanks. Allison in building to. When the crisis came you just don't know what to tell you don't know what to do and you know I think she sets went to Papua New Guinea to volunteer their experiences like they sed of deeply affecting deeply traumatizing maybe that can change your life obviously for the worse what are you going through in the immediate aftermath maybe I don't know it gives you a new perspective in the long term I don't know your thoughts place what do you take you are faced with a decision a snap decision or maybe you can consider it because that's what people in Willie Brigitte been able to do they've been able to think OK we've been allowed back home for 15 minutes and that is all what is the one thing that we absolutely must have above all else passports Yeah that seems a very practical thing although of course you can get passports replaced they're expensive bits of paper but you can get passports replaced and if you can persuade the passport office that you were actually in a crisis situation like a fire or a flood I'm sure there are ways around getting you a new passport maybe it's got to be something irreplaceable something well like Ian said earlier all New know that little example of his his late wife actually what would you take if you had to make that decision so maybe you've got time to think about it and to ponder going back into your homes what you remove with a limited time to do it or maybe you've got time as the crisis in Susan what is it the grab and run out of the house with. To. Be oblique results we've got some chocolate meat cheese skull in the music you play. Sinful K. Can come when she's a fantastic How do you mean to be real nice of a friend sent to make a few nice friends. Together B.B.C. Radio York he's B.B.C. Ready York and I thank you again to everybody who helped make cake and a cuppa a triumph again last week just to again later on this week it was so nice to get together with so many people let's go to oh I know let's go to our good friend Lynn Fenby he'll hear rather talk about the paper's On the breakfast show with Georgie and from time to time with me as an opinion panelists that we've called in this morning because she's an inventive creative person and I asked her what she would perhaps take in the state of emergency and rescue from her home see if I sometimes think about it when good morning good morning how are you thank you 1st of all let me just double check you never actually have been in such a situation have you know in such a dramatic situation as your last caller By happened to be a country that I wonder didn't just point earlier. And we become today but not for quite a dramatic reason that your last caller right OK Well that's good to hear so here we are I put you in this theoretical crisis situation which I hope never ever happens to you but it might so you are either dashing out of your home or you're allowed to go back to your home for a limited period what is it you take I take it they come quoth the blankets that my late mom made for my 4 boys when they were babies because so much they went through and everything they tried to look at my mom who but I'm like well I just got. And when we were. In Kazakstan a couple years ago I mistakenly packed them in with our ship and were by hand but it could be the world they were held. Courts have been and I have never seen so bare fish like stick to pick up my stomach for those 8 months thinking where are the flying kits and when am I going to get them back that ever since then they have traveled and are cases in the hope that the played when we then moved on to move on to Indonesia and came back here I've never left really. Lovely what you can you describe the blankets to it because I'm sure most people want to. Call a house if this thread flying. Through his blanket has a car and on the blanket. Embroidered message from my mom just saying Goss with his station and then love from Granny Sondra on a similar message on Oscar rip. Her images of. Trying to score his son planes and the piss got so much sentimental value because I knew how much love went into making them particularly because my mom passed away 3 months after he was born and she was very very sick when she was making his blanket but she. And I know you know how much it's hard for to get that blanket maybe they would be I don't even know if I would have left from behind in the 1st place. But it's actually if I had the 15 minutes to go by going to take him already I would be grabbing passports 1st when the comics medium taken over need a place. You know would go off with the grass on i Cloud but these things these blankets they've got such sentimental member days they'd be coming with me because now i Cloud something you're like moments where there's absolutely no I'm like I said those 8 months they were hold off on a poor end and I have. Never been so nice and my life that I might lose these blankets and those see them again. Then what about a mention about where on earth blanket subs should never have put them in that shipping container in the 1st place a lovely display lovely to speak to this morning thank you very much indeed I suspect that that has brought to the I'm a little to the throat but that's the kind of stuff I'm talking about the stuff that is absolutely irreplaceable you know Islam says you can get fresh birth certificates you can get new passports but stuff like those blank case the light moment for each of you kids each of you lads that know they're not available again anywhere ever are they so yeah what would you what would you grab me send me a text. Trouble 3 Start your message with the word York and tell me what you would safe in a crisis situation like that let's toss one next caller who we're going to call for the purposes of been on the radio this morning Allan good morning Allen morning Jonathan faced with these circumstances what would what would you grab what would you take or going up to process things in your life right now misuse and should she be like that in front of. Congress to leave you they are in good shape Yeah more than likely something else and so what's the concern some people argue that's what's the other thing rather the other thing is something that is totally irreplaceable and what is normal really spoke so you'll have to explain to me and others who are not familiar with service life is this is this what you're issued with the end of your military service your when you were English is where the yes but when you call notes you can normally release a book it's called The Little Red Book was not so little actually but that series of documentation of the militants who. Are listed at 15 year old 60 years ago you know if you know your record get out of school it did it. Why is that book Why is that book so significant so important to you.
