Radio gets a window Tuesday morning today Tuesday morning which in the morning you know what I look for Tuesday putting. And lot still to come between now and 10 o'clock 7 the day off yesterdays confuse me according to the role College of Nursing patient safety could be put at risk because of a shortage of nurses in England that comes only days off the coast of this program a complaining that there aren't enough nurses at Ipswich in coach S. The hospital is more in a moment it's also a special day for one Suffolk student who starts a new course one year after being diagnosed with leukemia yes it's back to school back to university energy companies have been given an extra 4 years to install smart speeches smart meters in their small meters in every home of the country do you have one cat was it working for you if you have got one and there is special assemblies in school was a warning about the danger of carrying knives and steps going to long to one force this morning to find out more. Morning I certainly have it's been a long time since I stayed in a school cop on lined up ready for simply. Almost an Endeavor Academy and I'm going to be talking to the head teacher Daniels and also some of the students about why it's important to have this knife crime assembly from 830 today said thanks very much for Nancy Grace and on B.B.C. Radio and stuff like. To join us today the phone lines are open I weigh 101-412-1218 extension 1 triple 3 on the tanks to start you message as always with a 2nd day. As we've been hearing this morning nurses from across Suffolk you're going to be a in Bury St Edmunds today to get support for their campaign to highlight the issue of a lack of nurses by the Royal College of Nursing they want the public they want you and aunts to sign their petition to pressurize the government to follow Scotland and Wales by introducing a new rule to ensure safe staffing levels Micky Ward is an R.C.N. Regional office and told me I. Earlier this morning nurses need much more support than that itself has changed all that can take a lot I think that's right thought their control they can't just go home they have to carry on and keep that pressure to the Kotel patient and like doing. And. Getting. Recurring how. They call keep going on that we need. That support that I have to both they become to provide that and then they have this well this is an issue that's been raised on this program only a few weeks ago and he got in touch with me from his hospital bed he rang up to say that he'd been talking to other patients and nurses and they were at their wit's St and really really struggling to cope this is what he had to say when he got home for me in landing on the war which was very very hard for for 24 grades and summer and all the time they're done 12 by their own base. About me to be a boy are going on there about the seriously ill. And they need to turn the other patients into what will be waiting maybe training is being managed to go to the toilet every bedridden all if they need something. But I would feel good sooner or later lose a lot of nurses don't know Brian Wilson had a cold from Carol who got in touch with us similar issues at Coach Esther hospital Well Catherine Morgan is chief nurse adab switch and coaches to hospitals and is with me now Catherine good morning good morning your reaction to the Royal College of Nursing this morning Mr Haley saying that the nurses are all menes. I mean it's really valuable the Holton says the value of Nursing for patient care is being right and I absolutely agree we need to make show a vest and have the right nesting numbers you know hospitals and care homes in a new settings for patients so what do you know any today about the importance Well of course is what I want to. Absolutely say we have been making sure that we would be regulated how many nurses we Nate we've increased the numbers bonded in a across all hospitals unsupported history 1000000 pound investment over the last year and we're working really hard to make sure that we didn't hold fake unseasoned have managed to reduce all vacancy right from approximately in line with the National 11 percent down to about 6 percent. But it's essential that we all never complacent and that we continue to drive really halt filling all vacant space and supporting the nurses who who are in a most amazing job every day yet no one doubts that they are incredible that just not enough of them. I think nationally we have a really really challenge and I'm talking now about it which hospital and culture specifically that's what you're here for that's where you're representing and we had complaints a few weeks ago from what you heard a few moments ago from Mr Healey who was speaking to nurses who was saying that they were there with saying they were really struggling we had Carol get in touch with a saying the same thing about Coach Esther now we're saying that the all C.N.N. Our own Menezes. I mean I you know I spent a lot of time in the clinic Larry talking to the stalls and supporting way reviews the profile of all patients and the numbers of nurses that we have it's certainly there all day so when it is high but I think if you spoke to a lot of nice it it also say that I have a really really rewarding job I think we come a concise and we continue to ensure allowing UL allowing wards with not enough staff phone. No I mean we assess with S. How many nasties that we made regulator out the day we do very detailed reviews of skill mix we have increased the numbers as well let me just now days this is really important stuff co-ops Q Are you guaranteeing that there are always enough staff on every wards we have to make changes throughout the day to sometimes to ensure that the case but we have a lot of sorting sometimes sometimes there are awards where there aren't enough nurses sometimes we have to move style from different areas to support areas which may be sure to times but we always make sure that this is just office supported from the right areas to might show that we are able to provide the right care yet the NASA saying they're on a needs they can't cope on this is all working very hard and I talk to them regularly a week ate very very very close contact with them to see what is going on on the daily basis I think that you know we have got one of the lowest vacancy right nationally and one of the lowest in the region and the moments we had missions in hospitals are and admissions are growing 3 times faster than the Aussies are being recruited. That is none of the national paper not the local picture as we've seen increasing our numbers across by our hospitals if you still have I can see you admit you have vacancies you admit that you have stuff where they're being moved from wall to wall what are you doing to increase these numbers what actual things are you doing to make a difference well we have managed to recreate a lot of our vacant space and said We have some of the law a vacancy right but we need to continue to drive that we're supporting you well we've got an apprentice nasty that we can support nurses to move from health care system positions but also young people coming in who want to join the profession where working to support and an international recruitment pipeline well because that and is needed to support our current. And when I was there working with our staff team understand what we can do to ensure that we retain stuff when we give it create them for kind of support and development or other and think that we get you've got the C.N.N. Protesting today oh people to sign this petition because they say you have on safe stuffing levels. They're saying nationally it is very challenging in a me to raise the importance do you have starting levels that it switching coaches to weed out and and I work very very closely with the R.C.N. Actually with their very supportive and for myself and our organization about what we're trying to radically address a national shortage on the spokesperson saying us nurses are all men a nice. Now they were saying that they described some people generally saying they're challenging gays and we N.H.L. That we support is to provide that can you seriously take in this is a seriously is as it sounds because it's seems as if you will be a not really taking a particularly seriously. 8 then I wanted and I think Orton gay she said male a daily basis and leading in trying ensuring we have enough nurses across our ward and I have undertaken the review of stuff in the land in Charlotte investment and taken into our trust bold lead I have supported. Against a challenging financial background 3000000 pound investment and last year passionately supported driving a vacancy rate down by 50 percent it's something that I think about every day I support the change to ensure the right message there are available for all patients every day OK thank you very much Catherine Morgan doing all she can chief nurse it sits in coach S. The hospitals the R.C.M. Meeting in Bury St Edmunds today by Moises hole they're organizing a signing of a petition today to pressurise the government to follow Scotland and Wales by introducing a new law to ensure safe staffing levels since I said earlier we have had concerns about that mentioned to us from listeners in the past but if she hospital uncoached are saying they can do all they can. Be good Radio. Is a more bent small meeting is they are now going to the energy supplies get another 4 years to install so-called smart meters they were supposed to have them all in place by the end of next year now the target is the end of 2024 so have you got one is there any good Serenus on the line to us from Brandon high Serina who I love Kelly ferry Well this morning thank you for asking and have you got one are they any good no I haven't got one I had an email from my energy supplier saying much terror was coming to an end and couldn't even you guys in the CO ready. Said that I had solar panels and I said may be a con have a small make it and you'll have to go on a standard Terry which we all know is a looked low then. Preferable one so because of solar panels You couldn't we heard earlier on the if you live Wally's lives in a flat she couldn't have them so it must be quite frustrating when you're trying to be as eco as possible a sec say you know I'd sit it while lobbying paino laws for having solar panels. Is down to you I can have a have a small maters so why do I have to go on standard tires and she had no reply for me suspicious it's bizarre the very very nature that you trying to do everything with such a panel is at hand one a smart meter to help even more you can imagine how bizarre how bizarre. No wonder they're struggling exactly 03 straight off the phone and went on to the computer searches to. He's somebody else they supply Blimey Serena thank you very much 080-141-2121 those energy supplies have been given a lot more time to get those small in the target is now the end of 2024 it was meant to be by the end of next year B.C. Sound music radio all. The way predicts that by 2025 however the world's population will live in water stress standing on us. So we're asking. What happens when you run out of water. Beyond Today poll cost one big question about one big story every day download the free B.B.C. Sounds app to listen. And balance self a look and that's the breakfast B.B.C. Radio self a Tuesday morning a 23 Suffolk police a caring and it's a week long crackdown on crime this week offices across the county will use intelligence information and high visibility patrols to target offenders who use and carry knives as part of Operation SEPTA there are also knife bins around the county now as well as the high profile approach Suffolk police he's going into schools to give special assembly so on the issue to the youngsters there's one happening this morning at almost an endevor Academy in north west switch right now Steph Mack is there for SNAP staff. Morning Mark here in the school playground you can probably hear the children all filing in behind me now the school opened in 1961 and in those days an assembly warning of knife crime would have been absolutely unheard of head teacher Jeremy Daniels is with me now Jamie tell me 1st of all why this is why today of these reports said this isn't a warning about dot com It's about educating young people about making good choices . This is about making sure they're really clear about. This the significant implication should they choose to. Making people aware that they should come forward who they can talk to ship they have issues concerns around this is part of a national program of the country schools we have the similar assemblies police forces. Operations. And his idea was it to the police come to you did the school report places it up very much a partnership it's very much a partnership we have really good contact with the local police and they've come into the. Careers events for this is well so we've got to. Have working relationship with the local police and standing here I'm just wondering how old are the students who are coming in who are going to hear the the assembly today crime will have a summary strike the week so all year groups from age 11 up to 60 will be of the same sort of message around. Involved in that conversation should they have any concerns and how to make sense which he says and what effect do you think this will have at this young age is this the time to to really kind of trying nip this in the band I think it's important you know young people are aware about the police are approachable teachers are approaching. What they shouldn't do is just keep things to themselves and worry about them if I talk about them we can help them solve those problems and to the students going to get that message today I'm joined by Naomi and Charlie name if I can come to you 1st you know when you're looking very small on your school blazer he will couple of purple badges that explained role here at the school as well as being one of the students but I'm a senior I know. Senior investors basically if anyone needs to talk to me about something I can. Help out with partner school. Sports. That's absolutely brilliant Now obviously the sort of person he's already got your head screwed on things but how important do you find. An assembly line place to actually educate your friends and the younger children here as well but gets us to know a lot about what actually happens and. Tells us not to actually carry a noise anything in the street because I think the studies do show that carrying a knife you're more likely to end up actually being injured by one in the 1st place so I'm glad that that message is with you already. Have you seen in your lifetime as a young person have you seen this problem escalate and actually come here to Suffolk. Yeah. I mean. There's been a little of things happen but hopefully the message will get around and it will just stop. So let's hope it's a name you know Charlie you'll hear as well again looking very smart in your tie in your new plays or an assembly like this is this a 1st time for you or if you have this message come through throughout your schooling I've had this for my house from since been moved I have heard about all the knife crime around just around Suffolk and a lot has happened so past 2 years I think it's increased. So the actual crime has increased Do you think there's other ways that we can reach out to young people to try and stop crime in the 1st place I'm not sure if there's a big thing we can do about every little thing we can try and can help in that they go on. And again they use the sort of person that would be approachable for the younger students here as well to to perhaps after December if they had questions would you be so happy for them to come and talk to you and actually share some experiences with yes I would be happy to talk to the young girls if they need any help or support that and I think going on in their lives. And it's. Time it's pressure isn't it come back to you it's pressure from. Students and other. Side influences as well and that's the thing that we really want to sort of drawing fire in with a campaign like this. It's about providing open community where people can come to us and this is just this is just one of many assemblies of people around the health effects relationships it's part of what we do in terms of trying to build successful. And that's what we all want him all the almost an academy I'm going to pump into the school assembly and hear a bit more. Thank you very much that is. Latest from staff today and it's a almost an Endeavor Academy So for police this week cracking down on knife crime as well as doing all sorts of different things they are talking to youngsters across the county to raise awareness of the issues and the problems so to come on the program today much more to come on a small. Back to university for many people today will be hearing more about that little bit later on but right now we're at 21 . Problem at. That's now has returned to normal the other field in the 20. Directions. And accident in and around its reach very busy in the new. Travel times of 6 minutes. To cut up. Band on the. Heavy traffic. Out on the very regular 6 minute air travel time. On the trains $825.00 it's each to Felix day 7 and the $54.00 Felix that it's 7 spec cancelled. Early at train fault I'm George Jamieson B.B.C. Radio travel if you see something or can update me our 801412121. B.B.C. Radio Suffolk here's a warning exactly a certain Let's get some day mail from Kelly good morning the chief nurse for Ipswich hospitals told this program the N.H.S. Has to invest in the profession to keep vacancy rates down Catherine Morgan says the trust has invested 3000000 pounds in the past year to help recruit more now says the World College of Nursing will be in Bury St Edmunds today saying there are unsafe staffing levels across England a legal battle over Boris Johnson's controversial decision to suspend Parliament for 5 weeks will be had by the Supreme Court in London today the suspension was challenged in 2 separate cases each giving contrasting judgments and Ipswich teenager arrested last week on suspicion of stealing songs has been released Suffolk Police are asking for public help and support as they take part in a national week of action against knife crime researchers believe a medicine normally used to treat men with the knowledge prostates may also be able to slow the progress of Parkinson's disease they now plan to start clinical trials in patients with the debilitating condition an American woman has become the 1st person to swim the English Channel 4 times nonstop Sarah Thomas who's $37.00 finished after more than 54 hour was and energy companies have been given an extra 4 years to install small meters in every home in the country suffix whether some shine today highs around 17 degrees Celsius is $63.00 and Fahrenheit clear and cold tonight the use of one those are the headlines says more in half an hour. Lots and lots of people not keen on having a smart meter Leslie's been in touch completely useless as you can't change companies and still use them so if you've got a smart meter and you swap the downs there is your leader and one small generation 2 small small doubt which is supposed to be smarter which in now you change provide is and still have the reading rights haven't played so if you've got a mark one version then you may have to have another version at some point or it just stops or it stops working OK maybe best the white. Maybe best to white the Love sees no problems well done author. Thank you. B.C. Is something my son is in the way 7 slightly delayed stuff and it's risky at half past 10 22 minutes to 9 energy supplies as we've been hearing this morning of being given another 4 years to install so-called smart meters they were supposed to have them all in place by the end of next year now the target is the end of 2024 or Carolyn's on the line to us from Crow fields with more on this side Carolyn. Banks for joining us I'm good thank you so what's your experience of the smart meter is was quite reluctant to have one because I'd heard rumors about the cooking oil. SPILL. Months ago I have got a bird come to the bridge well. And then. 2 months ago I had one thing on my kitchen light Starkey for the trip which he claimed that he have a daughter home and a friend. And eventually after the whole of this we were not. Well. And eventually after all 3 of us talking to them including my daughter who'd been in the fair electric car let alone their great. I was crying all the time that what people would be helpful he called me about 10 o'clock at night still trying to work out what the pope the laws in any event he took the counsel for the few that comes from the mines outside where the power. Elite is a small meat had been satiated they were too frightened I was a heating and cooling single was shooting Blimey so was it was poorly installed then that smart meter Yes he said a call 100 percent say that the code was but isn't well I'm going to have to replace the fuse and for a while and he said Well of course these people are the source. But that title for the house to get 3 quarts LOL and then no trying to let Tristian which sucks it was fairly old because a few weeks previous I'd had all my power tested and signed off by trying to let Tristian and when that guy was there he said I'll contact Chuck to use only the know how to clear touch but could not tell coming in from outside so it's made me feel quite uncomfortable hasn't that's not right yeah yeah i'm because he's guys a tight I'm so unsurprising like they take a lot of time sitting on one while I have what I have something I have heard here in the past I've had similar situations actually And yeah I guess with the amount that they are installing there might be the old mistake that happens but that shouldn't be really when you're dealing with something so important. Trying to. Completely ignore it when. I do I think probably would have found it Carolyn thanks very much our 801412121 financial analyst Louise Cooper has more on this Good morning to Louisa a lot of people getting in touch this is a this is a project has been plagued with problems as we've been hearing I look how many other electronic items that you buy don't work properly you know like when you go to A and I buy a new smartphone or buy a computer or buy I buy a television how often do they not work how after their technical glitches which stopped working so why is it with smart meters not the most complicated device terms compared to a Smart Phone Why is it they don't work so 1st of all there's been all these technical glitches The 2nd thing is the 1st generation of smart meters are smart because you can switch energy supplier and then and there remain smart they they sort of go Dom and go about like an ordinary old out fashion meter so it's actually ridiculous you've got this government policy of encouraging competition encouraging the soul to shop around switch energy suppliers. Which is fine but you've also got government policy saying I want everybody in this country to have a smart meter fine if that's the case why on earth did the government allow the 1st generation smart meters not to be able to switch between energy supplies it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever now of course all these problems have been in the papers they've been on the radio on television so consumers have sort of wised up to the problems with smart meters and so they've sort of stopped not quite stopped to be people still having them installed but much lower rates and so on surprisingly out of 550000000 households only 1515000000 have got a small. Because there's been so many problems with them and so the government's almost been forced to back down because you know he's had to push back its target of full smart meter well out because it's just been such a mess and they're supposed to benefit the consumer some people of fandom complicated it's not trusting them there's an awful lot of uncertainty surround these things. So the idea this is this is the fairy The theory is that because you following Tao a lot more about your energy usage you will therefore suddenly become instantly far more aware and therefore your cut down your energy usage which would be good for your own budget and be good for the environment that's the theory and I wonder if it works like that so I mean one of the Clearly advantages you have to have it no me to read it anymore because the. Information gets sent back to you and your usage on your on your gas it has to get sent back to your supplier instantly in real time so your supply that doesn't need to bill you so that will mean you've overbuild to build so you won't have bill shock when you've used too much that just you haven't paid for on a direct debit or you won't have you know giving your energy supply a whole lot of free credit so that's price to get rid of that. In terms of that you're changing your behavior because you're much more aware of energy uses I kind of understand that for the 1st bomb he might get really excited look at it but I wonder now we believe most people if very busy lives you know I bring up families or looking off to L. That he relations and working and I'm not sure most people are going to sit down there if we can analyze that data usage look we need to cut down at 7 o'clock at night we could turn the heating off or HALL For now I don't like this I tell why it is quite clear that well paying for the small meet is we might all be paying in terms of having a new one installed but we're paying for them by paying more in that you know yearly fuel costs something like $10.00 pounds a year for the average household so we're already paying for the things that don't work aren't terribly small but if you do want one make sure you get a 2nd generation one and a bit more time giving to those and as you supplies to get it sorted out Louise thanks very much your experiences on this coming through thick and fast on the program the small warning his one small people don't need a small mates a small people no electricity costs money and shouldn't be wasted only a fool needs to be told to be efficient Lisa gets in touch twice I showed you days off to have one installed and both times they failed to arrive no phone call no notice no explanation and accusation from one operator that I must have had a coal and I just popped out when they came as a self employed person that's a lot of money to lose when I pointed this out I was offered 25 pounds compensation against energy account I argued up to 75 pounds it is NEVER been credited against our energy account every time they phoned to say would I like to shoot you an appointment I just close the call off I've had enough John say is I had one for a few years now don't know what all the fuss is about keeps me informed what I'm using and the cost Nicky gets in touch I had one but the company I was with went bust. When I asked the new company for another one they said no because I already had one apparently I can have another one this must be one of those 1st generation wants and I can't use the old one with the new company Juli though I have one and I'd love it I can really keep it all I want to use the most power the kettle and the steamer I and get more from B.B.C.
