The high end of March break this B.B.C. Radio. Good morning and welcome to Friday morning here on the brink 1st coming up on the program the Smalling nearly 150 days ago former Ipswich Town Manager Paul Hurst said this is. Not. Really good season and I think that's what everyone's looking for in myself included yet we all were told but sadly that optimism faded very quickly and yesterday he was sacked by switch town so what next for the super blues lots of rumors about Paul Lambert taking over Also it's a big day for town fans today many of the movie gathering at Portman Road this afternoon as Kevin Beatty's funeral procession passes by the stadium and the Sabbahi Robson statue will be paying tribute to the bait here on Mark Murphy a break 1st and we'll have coverage throughout the day here on B.B.C. Radio Suffolk bus the hot seat is warming up nicely today for South Suffolk M.P. James cartlidge will be here between 9 and 10 today so if you've got a question it's a way 101412121 mother Nancy breakfast on B.B.C. Radio Suffolk. 7 minutes past 7 this Friday morning so here we go then Paul Hearst's 149 days in charge of apes which town crammed into just 6 minutes starting with his unveiling his make McCarthy's successor on the 12th of June. Very. Very honored will do everything in our power. That they can be proud of. I want to be. This moment to. that in. The US. From the penalty spot but. Still the full time whistle. But I guess. That's the most negative reaction we've had at the end of the game this season from the. First straight. Up about their football team now 10 games 9 in the league without a win for too many changes everybody you know each other is if you know they don't even know each other probably don't know each other because to get a long enough you know. Situation you know that horrible situation where how much longer. This. Very long but I think that he turned to. Me. Like. Shall I. Get rid of that money. Many times I'm a realist I'm not going to bury my head in the sand at the same time I'm not trolling social media to see all the. Negatives that that might be out there but you get on with it you. Know there was a big. Change of course now some people will be questioning whether that was the right choice or whether the. Changes again that's life and. With. Celebrate see. The culture. It's. Time for. C Just. $32.00 It's one is this whole Hearst 1st victory. Anybody inside the Liberty Stadium. In the way that. He knows he's got his 1st victory. For the players and for the. You know a long. Long time and. It doesn't mean we've. Suddenly things. We have to enjoy to win. That's the reaction of the whole crowd was a disappointing afternoon for apes which town hall ball club so was so miserable after the joy and the enthusiasm of Swanzy 2 weeks ago worrying worrying times Richards town based on not like 2 minutes describe the pressure you're under the moment the pressure comes from myself more than think of the sort of noise from all the other areas he's something he's part parcel of being a football manager but realistically I put more pressure on myself than anything easy I do you. Know we know about the same time. You have to put a concentrate on the job being on for the end of the day you know you're manager of the Championship football club game to do something that a lot of people can only dream of when a lot of people you know I would love to do so far from. You know dreading coming in to help to show how no asleep again from this corner kick me when. I find sadly it's going to be another defeat traits which Chad there are 25 minutes to go for a miracle Elland Road is buoyant so it's now leads to 3 times. Jake says And just finally would you like Marcus to come in and say what the situation is regarding your future going to stop the tittle tattle and all the question that's flying around the without help again I don't really feel that it's for me to say all out to continue to go about the job you know until I hear anything different than realistically if nothing said then you get on with it and if something said we'll deal with it you know what to do. And sadly football has that message was that his services were no longer required he was let go yes. Today you also heard in that report forward San kept in MC mails and some callers to our Matchday phone in well listening to that since to get his reaction town's X. Defender Russell Osman on the lying to us Russell thanks ever so much for joining us on the program today we start of the season with such great expectation and it goes it's all gone wrong. Well it's a great expectation but it was looking at the signing with a little bit at. The back of the mind. Says. Experiences managing a championship so let's see how he gets on with it and then as a sort of new signings coming in and the new loans coming in. I think it was more with a lot of hope that everybody was going to. We all wanted a bright young manager with new ways of thinking modern technology being involved in the game of football in the past we've enjoyed having players coming up from lower divisions so there was a you know as you say a lot of hope there pretty soon now it was obvious that things were not right as the gangs went on and on and on and another no real sign of improvement during all of that. You know this and sports science has a place within the game especially in the modern game. Bristol comes down to how you play football and what actually goes on on the pitch and it's still 11 against 11 when our kickoff time you know plays of God the more motivated and the. Better understanding of the game than the people the playing the games and this season you can say that that's been going on yet you know as a young manager with a modern way of thinking that you've got to get the work done on the training ground with the players so that when they go on to the grass a Pullman or to work with in the Championship they are a strong discipline unit to break down just was nothing you've heard long I've heard lots of stories coming out of Portman right that it hasn't been a happy place during his tenure and looking at the body language of some of the play is that just has seemed to been a lack of man management perhaps. Things of. You know rumors down just come out from from Norway you know if I want to turn the page on it will tell friends tell friends. Who it does get around and it was a happy camper tried to change a lot of things within the club to comment on in the same you know if everything was so bad and you think you have to change so much. It's just funny for the job for him to take in the 1st place but. The problem is now the next person who comes in. Asked to go through the same process and change everything else again so from our point good water whoever takes over. This and there's a lot bigger things going on and they're. Talking about the new manager in the last one now we're going to talk about the friend Kevin in a 2nd or 2 but one fire was about as a possible replacement it's looking like it's going to be the next Norwegian Villa boss polearm but certainly experience the in the Championship What do you think of it is him. I know so the support we've talked about too kindly. I think we're still. Travelling also to assist our 4 ball club to find our own managers and. After worry about somebody's been associated with no disrespect to pull on the city for ball club but there's a history between the 2 clubs and alike that history a lot of the competitive element between the 2 clubs and I would like that to remain and I would like somebody who's. Got more love for it to build a possibly have to sell with no City Football Club well be interesting to see if that is the signing we expect it to be him and we should find out tomorrow you touched on a bigger event happening in Ipswich today it's the funeral of a friend debate and now you can be here because you're away in India at the moment your thoughts about the bait this morning. Well I just go back to the 1st few visits on my. Football Club when I was 1516 years old and there was this team player. Who was just extremely friendly with all the new young players coming in this was before I was even an apprentice I was just a schoolboy visiting a charity do like. Part of the Chinese stuff straightaway you know you were there you were there own merits he was. And he was larger than life. Enjoy himself every day I wanted everybody else to be part and parcel of it you know and he was just a great character. As I developed as a player to do the same A became more and more helpful. To just 3rd my what he did on the page and how it conducted himself on the pitch he was on flushable. And just you know. Well they certainly broke the mold that's for sure and towns most talented naturally talented football ever to pull on that football and as you say I always wanted to make the most of life always the joker always wanted to have a good time and yeah he certainly did that during his life he lived it to the fullest no doubt about that yeah it's. A great start and part of the good of the history of this yourself local club you know and I have to get a sense of that he deserves today which I'm sure he will and I hope everybody just focuses on that today more than. The other things are going on yeah absolutely right Russell lovely to talk to 3 o'clock this afternoon the funeral gets underway right to raise a glass of something special because I know he would really enjoy that if you did it Russell. Yeah. CLARK So. Thanks for joining us this morning Russell Osman town defender talking about his friend Kevin Beatty whose funeral is this afternoon at 3 o'clock joining us live there from Mumbai unable to work to make the funeral this afternoon and more coming up on Hearst's departure up later on in the program we'll be talking to our life's a pitch co-host Terry Butcher about poor Hearst's decision to come to Ipswich Town and how it all went wrong for him and also of course talking to Terry about Kevin Beatty and the we have full coverage of the big funeral later on. But it's our top story here this morning away from the Paul Hurst story the funeral of EPS which town at Legend Kevin Beatty will take place this afternoon with fans expected to gather at Portman Road and if you do want to pay your respects Portman Road will be the best place to go his hearse and the coffin will come pass a body along Portman Road for one last time this afternoon and that's the place where the family is saying look you know come on come down there give him some applause as he goes past and I know town staff will be downing tools this afternoon and they will be walking out on to Portman Road to show their respects to the legend Kevin Beatty this afternoon you'll be able to hear coverage with Leslie on her program today in other news an inquest heard how the Thetford man died after a car jack failed in the vehicle he was working beneath him working on crushed him and a group of M.P.'s say Universal Credit is causing unacceptable hardship for many claimants in sport this. New manager this weekend after sacking Paul House last night and coming up we had to Sudbury to speak to people living in James colleges constituency and head of the South suffer again piece visit to our hot seat this morning the weather today Cloudy with rain at 1st brightening up later on staying windy today with highs of 10 that's 50 in Fahrenheit. The UK talks a little look inside the morning papers and we'll stay with Kevin Beattie Because a lovely tribute to him in today's Daily Times lovely picture of our home to bacon and eggs together black and white photo. Power I played in black and white that's the black and white photo of the big girl today and a lovely tribute from apes which passes the. They have named a bus after the beat Oh well it's buses have had a tradition of naming their buses and there's a lovely picture of the front of a Scandia boss and it says Kevin Beattie see number 6 on the front and that's a lovely tribute he had a tank named after him by the British Army ring me up in Germany they named a tank after him he was very proud of that and we did try to track it down to see if it was still around somewhere the BT tank but we couldn't we could never find it David Spade in touch I hope the club but delay any announcements today about a new manager today is for the bait unfortunately not of my era but both my parents uncles grandparents keep telling me stories of when our club was great cheers big for all that hope you and the boss are having a great time up there I think we'll find out who the new manager is tomorrow for the above reasons I think I don't have an announcement today and a couple of other quick stories this morning the inventor of Bailey says died at the age of 930 at Christmas favorite Bailey's Irish Cream Tom Jayco came up with the idea of mixing Arash whisky with cream created at 974 No I was saying earlier on to Sally who's producing the programme Kelly today it's the drink that when you get at Christmas you kind of open it up when you put it aside and then when you reach for a few months later you think it was all gone off a little bit and then someone said I will get a chance to get. Radio Suffolk. 4 days 725 now South Suffolk M.P. James college is joining me in the Mark Murphy a breakfast hot seat today between 9 and 10 o'clock now your calls are welcome on any issues within his constituency county wide as well you may have some thoughts about how the Conservative government sees funding activities in Suffolk or maybe once or breaks it or anything else it's all up for grabs that today we've been finding out from some people in Sudbury slap bang in the middle of his constituency what they think their M.P. Should be addressing We want more policing and security. And. That's why you want policing to young people have just been cycling down the pavement a strawman with their hands off the wheel of a big sexy able to handle bars and just somebody coming out of a shop out lady say this is this is the one things about some prison town and he's going to be start the game pro together because it's beginning to fall apart it's going to her guns Saturday night there was a fight in the straight no place bank I was still lying on the floor Pat a half an hour after lunch so it needs more attention Kate the community as it is breaking out over this thing has been going on for a hell of a long time listen. You know that are they going to do what other not going to do what papers so they shouldn't bring the old town and some people say course you've got to do it for the congestion charge is a battle always in town yeah but as an alternative city you know you worry is that you look about like are you for it or against the rain from forecast because population increase in progress. Was he watching movies or is this more Corp then you and this is. Anything else that you think Mr College should be working on written or so you move are saying right now who we're talking to probably more appropriate reporting people going to St Mary would know and we reckon most of those well or ill I don't think that they can do with the photos that we have so I'll just call a place and I kind of need to switch to universal credit but let me until I know so service charges and I haven't just got the place today so it's all could see we'd like an easy system with universal credit here and close but funded places because I have to find him a funded place for 2 year olds but I can only find one thing and it's already taken up so yes you'd like to see more funding for childcare place and yeah say he's got a garden take it for 2 year funded but there's only one around they have to have all state approved one also but then there's only one available and it's already taken so so what he meant to pass out for to travel. A lot easier if there was more around the schools are going to suffer these houses because we get more and more houses and no more schools and also one of them is a health center building on the it takes away the don't a lot of people use so which just leaves the mental illness and we get really congested with people and. What about the bypass what you think about the bypass the suggestions of a bypass is a good thing thank you for cross street street and violent and really good for them because but again it's a country story just like where everybody will see so much of. Really was here with everything you need to know this Friday morning good morning be serious Suffolk understands Ipswich Town are likely to announce Paul Hurst successor tomorrow the former Shrewsbury boss was sacked yesterday after only 15 games in charge at least with town bottom of the Championship table 4 points from safety after just one victory academy director Leo Neil says whoever takes over will be coming into a good set of Kobe that it gives position it always and things really really well all we're looking at to do is to continue that obviously develop that with a number of areas of support whether that sports science medicine coaching now look at all of those things and so we are we are still actively doing that at the club's losses and moving forward you know we want it better than what we are at the moment and in order to do that we have to provide all the support we've sort of suffered got a full match commentary of towns trip to Millwall tomorrow when Brian clue will be in caretaker charge much to his on a from to Arsenal boss and I am ARISS he's totally focused on topping the Europa League group becomes after sides one will win at Sporting Lisbon last night their 11th victory in a row the 1st half it is not clear for us their balances for the 2 teams not a lot of chances to score and the 2nd half is the best step I think we would play to win the match for us is very important because we all finish the fire. Meanwhile Chelsea boss Micha sorry says he needs to see defensive improvements from Reuben Loftus cheek before he becomes a permanent fixture for the club for the midfielders hattrick is Chelsea boss a bar a soft 3 want Stamford Bridge in the Europa League last night you have a tactical problem that we didn't. Look at that is the X. They had to improve when the defensive phrases in maybe in the if you show I would be able to do good in just that big lead when in the same guy. By a clay Loftus a vote on expanding the Club World Cup could be held by Fifa today Richard Conway how small the Club World Cup is currently played in the same but each year but it's not held in high esteem by the majority of European teams or founds Fifa plans to change that than expanded format backed by billions of pounds from investors led by Japan's Softbank with Fifa facing scrutiny over possible financial links with Saudi Arabia it has ruled out Saudi investment in this project those representing Europe's biggest clubs and leagues remain opposed they argue their players are already involved in too many games and is worried its lucrative Champions League could suffer commercially its delegates are likely to vote against the plans however the feet of President Jonny infant Tino is determined to reorder world football and is expected to press ahead with the vote despite winning on the night whole fan Tigers came up short in their attempt to and speedways National League title heading into the 2nd leg of the play off final at home to east Bourne Eagles the stuff excited to overturn a 19 point deficit but could only win $4644.00 on the night to fill Kurt gave us his reaction afterwards and we Daley wanted to win the way that's what we set out to do. Without making excuses and a lot of Danny as and Jordan Jenkins was just as a step too far in his last couple of weeks for us but so has been fantastic. When the 7 were fair I think it's the best team with probably seen a motorhome. Improve 12 points on their style an average which now stands out for how good they have been and the vinegar. 18 or with a national fantastic year I think it was Hamilton says he's not ready to give up his rivalry with Ferrari Sebastian Vettel just yet Britain will serious 5th world title this weekend if he finishes 7th place or higher in the Mexico Graham praised been a great competitor this year and it's been it's been so hard for the both of us and I thoroughly enjoy racing with him so I'm looking forward to hopefully many more years racing competing together and right at the top look at keeper Ben folks have been called up to the England Test squad for next month's series in Sri Lanka he's covering for the injured Jonny Bairstow and tell us British number one Karl Edmonds being beaten in 3 sets by Fernando Verdasco at the Vienna open and finally today's race cards are 4 of them new breed Doncaster Cheltenham and kept there were a lot of talk about Paul Hurst and possibly Paul Lambert over the next 24 hours but let's talk about Kevin Beattie Because that for me is the most important thing today managers come and go but we say cheerio to a proper legend today and you commentated alongside and enjoy a few occasions yeah I did nothing but good words to say about Kevin an absolute joy to work with as you know a really good character. Loved by supporters and you know you've had issues inverted commas with him do a lot of the pitch down the ground where is he always been mobbed must be in the middle of the huddle it was similar way grounds I can remember walking up that marries for a cup tie down at Southampton and likewise just Town fan after town fan and you're right absolutely upon that is by far the most important thing connected to your town of the course these days had lovely notes had loads through actually as you can imagine but a lovely one here from Farmer piles which I'll just take a few moments to read out texting in today he says to all its rich town fans if you can make it support one road to say goodbye to our greatest ever player then please do give him the send off he deserves all be there as I owed so much to the beat for being the town fan I am today and passing that on to my children who are now adult fans themselves met him briefly just twice and as usual was in or of such a legend but 1st and foremost I was struck by how he. He was such a gentleman and had so much time for me that some farmer piles and I'll be doing one of the eulogy this afternoon and in that I will be talking about why he spent so much time with every single found because as a young lad he went up to a Carlisle United player and said Can I have your autograph and the player said not now son and then he swore then if he ever made it as a professional footballer that he would spend time with the fans and he did it every single time we were out anywhere and as you said hosting last a picture of me was a pain in the backside at times because. Beatty come here. It was big Swans God bless him but I think there will be turn at Portman Road this afternoon I hope so I don't know where the staff are downing tools at the football club and they're all going to be walking out on to we're on to Portman Road just opposite the statue this afternoon for that that hearse to go past at half past 2 should be very motional down here will be thoughts obviously with Kevin's family as well in amongst all of the other Spend no great character and like you say had time for any such town support anybody wanted to come up get an autograph get a selfie have a little bit of a chat have an after about football and I'm always optimistic and positive about 3 club yeah everyone who is here today be given we think where we would imagine the bookies haven't got it wrong I'd be thinking Paul Lambert you know get in give him a go if he wins matches he's fine by me and that wouldn't be able to date Brenna thanks very much for now more than a late. Is a radio suffer. The brakes on the radio suffer. It's 20 to 8 people living near the seaside haven't faced up to the reality of things like climate change according to a new report the Committee on Climate Change says it's almost certain England will face at least a one metre of sea level increase at some point in the future and that could actually be in the next 8 years well living here in Suffolk we are all too aware of the power of the North Sea and what it can do to us just look at where done it used to be and what's left now well let's talk to a counsellor Andy Smith he lives by the seaside he lives in Felixstowe he's a Suffolk coastal district councillor with responsibility for coastal management and actually talks about this on a national platform as well good morning to you and a good morning well thank you for joining us this is quite a stark warning in this report that we really need to start thinking about this and thinking about it now it is something that those of us who think about these things have come to realise more and more starkly over recent years as climate change. The debate has has continued and is the most what is likely or possible. So we've actually been my national hands on lobbying government to recognise it even the Committee on Climate Change themselves who did a report a while ago more generally and never mentioned or actually the coast might need to think about this so we're very pleased to say this report necessarily agree with every single word stark warnings and a realistic understanding of what might happen at different times goes in the future those are important when we talk about 80 years so in a way for me I think oh well that's that's way in the future but actually we're talking about something that could happen in the lifetime of our children absolutely so and if you do work on the on the coast. Then you have to think that far ahead. If we you know you mentioned I mean critics I was as you and I well know you live a little bit further along a little closer to the city than I do in a lot of malaria I live under you know further inland on the road OK for the north of that but when we did the 2 big scheme is in 20082012 you know really have any protect the town but rejuvenated a Economically we had to show it all the paperwork that they would last for a 100 years. And that was even at existing levels of. Of of a level. Sea level rise there will be academics debate endlessly how quickly how soon. Which is one half of the equation and the other is what can we do about it I attended a very measured speech by Sir John Bevan we could to back who is chairman of the Environment Agency who is painting a picture one meter in a 100 years maybe conceivably sums on to say 7 we know many of us I think believe that. But he also said but the good news is we can do something about it and that's where. You know renewable energy and nuclear energy is a particular issue and suffer so we're not talking just. Hard kind of infrastructure to protect our coastline where we're looking at ways of perhaps reducing the pressure on the climates. Indeed so some areas you know need to be protected in the longer other areas are sensitive now and we have some some of those places on the sufferer coast one of the potential policies with a report is now saying government should think about is funding so that one can over over time decades usually be able to make land there or further inland so that people can move inland and can be says. In doing that that's just that's one of the threads of this so relocating people from the seaside and indeed So yes that's. Places further north on our coast where that's happening already and on a very small scale people had to move move inland. Our colleagues in Norfolk at highest brush have been struggling with for some time we've seen pictures of people going in to see my colleagues we work together with the Norfolk councils together in Coast partnership based my colleague Bill Parker was amazing at hems Bay Yesterday we were all saying those pictures of those bungalows falling into the say they're essentially built on sand dunes. And it's not it's. They can be protected maybe for a short time basically looking 50 a 100 years climate change we have to think more constructively about how we deal with these things well it's good to get onto the agenda and certainly something I know that you know colleagues will keep pushing to to keep up because there are an awful lot people who to do live on the coastline and it can make a huge difference when we talk about one meter not just to us but when you think about the low lying areas all around the world absolutely so and of course yes we will we can and should be concerned but think about some as you say very low lying islands or in the you know the Indian say the Indian Ocean and all that yes it's very it's much much more stark for some people I think in the U.K. We should be able to manage it. But we have to think ahead and we need government to work together so that in particular the planning aspects of government and the coastal flood defenses from Defra need to work more closely together and that's something we've been pushing for for a long time and this report is making it very public on a bigger platform the line you've got to think about it government OK Andy Smith thank you very much indeed suffered coastal district council cabinet member with responsibility for coastal management He also speaks about it on a national platform as well they're suggesting that one of the models so we could see a me to see rice in the next 80 years 90 is does seem a long way away doesn't it but when you think about it it's in the lifetime of our children potentially the time 14 minutes to 8. And a recap on our main news headlines this Friday morning it's the funeral today of Ipswich Town legend Kevin Beattie died last month at the age of 64 retail billionaire so Philip Green has been named in parliament as the businessman who's obtained an injunction against the reporting of allegations of heresy meant that the chief executive of a council is going to write to Suffolk highways calling for a long term program to repair things like concrete roads in the town and sport Marcus Evans says. It will take the edge of the temperatures as we go through this evening and overnight we'll still see Want to 2 showers perhaps 10 which is a full increase to freezing for most so we could see a touch of for us to start the day tomorrow tomorrow looking at a nother cold day there will be some sunshine through the morning a touch of for us to begin with the risk of a few showers as we move through the day though we've got a brisk northeasterly wind that's going to take the edge off the already fairly chilly temperatures a maximum of 8 degrees Celsius but it will feel cooler than that once we add in the wind so feeling very chilly tomorrow and into Sunday as well Sunday brings with the further risk of a few showers another breezy chilly day with highs of 9 degrees Celsius so turning cool through the day today and then a chilly weekend with a risk of one or 2 showers now if you are unsure what is strong winds a forecast Westley 5 or 6 very northwest the 5 to 7 perhaps get a later visibility get occasionally moderate weather showers becoming schoolie see states light or moderate becoming a rough in north on the tide times for today and its high tide in Lowestoft is 6 minutes past 11 as high to 2.7 meets says and wants it on the days it's at 29 minutes past one this afternoon at height 4 point for me says thank you it's spot worth your breakfast it's 5 to 8 to get to town on B.B.C.
