The world's point of view because it was an Alp salute gentleman it always got time to stop and shots and he signed me lots of memorabilia in the process I just I just love them on the thing I thought whole a stroke I'm trying to move them on. Even though you took one of the footballing gods he walked among you he would say hello he would stoop even lower than most of us would even go ready to pick us up and that's Dawn said the potential terrorist into a peacemaker. This man touched him to our world in a way that we may never ever see again but he will be making dump all of what we can at least at the end to. RINGBACK Use a joke or a funny man for over 50 years every time we met during our careers and years after it would come up with a joke really stupid things I remember one stupid think particularly if you're playing away game and after the game somewhere abroad and we're reaching this restaurant and there's a pianist there playing very very loudly with a microphone attached to the piano you can hardly hear you so speak and we had to file through past single file past this British to get to our seats in the back of the restaurant I was a couple of players behind Banksy thank you going up to their peers just said do you take choose. And the principal be allowed to play and bang he said can you play far away. And I love banks last final on for his address after dinner address where we appeared together a few times. He said. Radio stocks Tim Wedgwood is there we will hear more from him a little bit later on if you've been lining the streets somewhere in Staffordshire or Cheshire Stoke on Trent might really because that's where the cortege went through the day I was 801218880 is the number to call me on the softer noon on B.B.C. Radio Stoke bring you up to date with some of the stories making the news. Just going quarter past 5 large crowds have lined the streets of Stoke on Trent for the funeral of Stoke City and England World Cup winning. Goalkeeper golden banks his coffin was carried by 4 current goalkeepers clubs he played for including England's Joe Hart and agent meeting a police chief has been called after 2 more teenagers were killed in stopping over the weekend we'll have more on both stories through the evening here on B.B.C. Radio stop talking earlier on about how I ended up sleeping in a Ford Fiesta high run off fines doesn't mind sleeping in his Mondeo robes called from Hamley with the story of where he's been asleep Hi Rob Well hello hello where I slept told her. Mates of mine and I went down to Cornwall and we been down to Land's End and back to new key for a night out and we need somewhere to get changed and went down this little lane the ended up going down to the edge so. It's all just turn around and go back up it was just you know just a dead end anyway soon as the front wheels went off the off the concrete we just stopped couldn't move. Run up to the police stations a police station a tough and they said oh you be alright that season sorry You'll be fine just gets a mile a day makes to give you a Porsche or in the morning so we went out and had a few drinks back to the car I slept in the film a slot in the back and then early hours of the morning. I was woken up by waves breaking on the front of the car. My words what do you do if you put the wipers on carry on or did how did it work no no no I couldn't get out the driver's door all the sound built ready up around the door but luckily the past in the door is still open so I got out run up to the police station and they all came down through the glass it was a. Big. Yeah did you do with the car did you drag it out in the end will have. Well I went up to the police station and asked them if they knew it carries us out and they said no you. Know they may just give us. That was he knew what was going on it was just to the last of them. Same on them fast so you know they all came down over they got laid out then nearly 2 couldn't drag that but I'm glad you escaped Rob and thanks for sharing it with some glad I'm not the only one who slept in a confidante threes and thanks for your call this evening I was 801 C 18080 it is free to share your story on B.B.C. Radio Stoke the sea. In the seeming to understand. Let's get the latest on the roads from pole. Well all lanes are now open on the M 6 north by enough to be a bit over 2 in vehicle from 17 at some batched to 18 from Middlewich as a sale lanes are being reopened does remain a very slow on patch though traffic struggles to get back to normal not the southbound not doing too bad to of the M 6 on through the stroke true areas doing OK Stafford it's slow and Beacon side now westbound from Sanden road to the stone road and just going out to the motorway this temporary lot simpler a stair Lek trick works going on small thought around small form roundabouts that's been building up on the A 500 day road still heavy at the Basswood roundabout and also before the M 6 junction 15 at home church if you see a problem call us our 80121880 We'll take a look at the weather now. Stuck in the cool the travel along on the 801. B.B.C. Radio Stoke. Still some scattered showers around the. Generally dry night with some clear periods. A brisk southwesterly when temperatures down to 0 tonight tomorrow sunny spells just the chance of an odd isolated shower. At the top temperature of 11 Celsius. Make. At. Last. The AS. Ruthless and shock. Great night for. Nobody on B.B.C. Radio so computers pretty and when they were not met when they found a major I.T. Shut down that stops customers from making payments banks in the U.K. At least once a day according to research out today the website which says in the last 9 months of 28 there were 302 incidents I've been speaking to which head of money sure the City Watch told that looks off to the banks and regulates them has forced them to publish this information to their customers so for us it was simply a case of going on to all the banks websites and saying how many times I've had. That could have the potential to cause some serious disruption to their customers you know over the past. Year we've seen T.S.B. Go in go into an I.T. Meltdown that lasted for weeks and weeks we've seen the Visa network go on people unable to pay with their debit cards and in small periods we've seen most of the big high street banks have outages which of stopped people from being able to pay their bills make payments or even take cash out of the cash machine so how does it affect customers then. Well if you if the online banking system goes down you're unable to check your balance you're unable to make transfers if there's a big glitch you're unable to access any of your balances you might not be able to use your debit cards direct debits might not get paid standing orders and then we're talking about serious stuff here we're talking about mortgage payments loan payments bill payments that could have an adverse effect on you in the future now banks say that when they have an I.T. Glitch and if you are worse off than if it hadn't happened they will put it right and they they will. Pay any interest charges or waive any interest charges if you've gone into overdraft but it's a serious worry for people when it does happen especially if it lasts for any longer than a couple of hours and in the case of T.S.B. Last year this this rambled on for weeks and weeks and do you know how these shutdowns come about is that the banks are being attacked or is it their own doing well look the I.T. System of a bank is very very complicated the biggest banks tend to have legacy systems that have been built on to each other over the years of as they've added more products and services like mobile banking and like online banking so they've got these really unwieldy legacy systems that are prone to having a glitch or having an outage some banks have tried to move on to new systems and that's what happened with C.S.P. It wanted to create a brand new system but it didn't go right and that's the real risk there is that you know if you if you were tinkering around with an old system you might have the odd glitch here and there but if you try and introduce something new and you could cause havoc for your customers it's a real risk for banks and it's a dance they have to do regularly and what have the banks said to you. Well the banks say they take the security of their systems really seriously and that they have to report every single glitch under these new rules no matter how few customers it affected if any at all I think what we're saying is that while a minor glitch may be a minor thing to a bank it could be a major major issue to their customers and it's certainly something we have to monitor in a world where bank branches are closing down cash points are disappearing off our high streets we're increasingly relying on a digital world of payments but these glitches show these systems are infallible and if the cash systems not protected really and the digital system goes down there's no backup for customers who need to live their financial lives brown envelope under the mattress that what we need I don't think we need to be taking our money out of banks but there does need to be a system in place to really protect the cash system and that's what which is calling for we're asking for a regulator that's there to make sure that as we move into a world of digital payments that people who like to use cash aren't left behind that they are protected and that that transition is really managed sensibly you know we could be walking in sleep walking into a crisis into a cashless world that we're just not ready for and that's what we want a regulator to look at it's not something that's affected you your bank not being there when you need them online 80121880 feels cold so there's an accident on the A 50 eastbound just off the city way roundabouts affecting traffic onto the A $500.00 now it will be go up the ramp towards the incinerator $850.00 eastbound heading from Stoke towards long term Bligh's bridge and you talk city that way problems that felt thank you very much for your call let's talk to Linda who's had an issue with her bank on the computer saying Hi Linda what's happened yet I haven't been able to. Going to my online account for nearly 5 months now. They say it's a generic error whatever that is. Being in the bank that's 2 hours with one of the people in that to try and change my password every time a change but password which would enable me to get into my bank they tell me for some reason I can't use that password. Or can't use can use that if it's not a lie will. And then I take suddenly numbers to today and they phone you with the number and I've actually done this at home and within the bank itself and then I've gotten back to the car with the numbers and it won't accept them says nearly 5 months I've not been able to access my online account to have to keep driving into the local branch which is leak and asking them to print statements for me about 5 miles each way roughly yeah pretty frustrating is it for example points on line banking is convenient Well it's supposed to be isn't it but I'm just I've found T.S.B. Over the last since May of last year totally incompetent and then at say. Last May I went into I don't know what his paycheck unwholesome thing and the guy behind the concept of you got a credit card Have you thought of having a loan from us instead because the interest looked left over that stuff sounds all right so. Make me an appointment to go in and see who I thought was the manager the lady who turned out it wasn't till and went in on another day and an appointment sore and she said well if you had if you borrowed this much too to pay off you your credit card and the credit card was was. The consult the lawyer borrowed was all the more money and used was of course a lot because I've got a very poorly dog and she said you know you can you can have the slogan for most you can pay off if you get a credit card you can have. This amount of money into the bank says you can pay that directly no need to use a credit card and I said I don't think I can afford that and she only asked a lot of those as I said about 2 accounts she said yes OK if you can trust me you can afford this level and sat sun to protect us all well if this deal is still Get Me Out to the nest and got home talking to my daughter been into the bank today would have been in full well they asked me to get rid of it she said you can't afford to pay that loan she said they had no right to even to having that because you can't buy and want the woman in the bank does not really was just use one account in just one page from the statement she hadn't taken all she hadn't taken all my pairings into consideration or to an adult is quite right accountable to pay that I would complain to back straight away and he and that was in May sue it and here we are in March and they still haven't dealt with my complaint buying companies we got your bank on the line this afternoon to talk about one month speaking to them tomorrow if we get the chance if that's alright with you have you can point to the Financial Conduct to authority Well they keep sending every couple of months they send me a letter saying sorry we haven't been able to deal with your complaint yet but if you want to complain to the on but from a good and I keep thinking well you know in the next couple of days they're going to ring me so since May I've been paying a loan that I can't afford to pay and they are sitting on it they've they've misled like misled me tell silly with the information that I could afford it and when the current Yes OK maybe I should have known that but I'm not. I think this person the daughter of the biggest. Banks supposed to be responsible lenders these days again they're not here to put their point of view but was able to talk to us on the program tomorrow that if you are right so right with the lender stay on the line and Jack will take some details you don't want your bank account number or your inside like measurement but just a bit more info because I know the bank will want to know it tomorrow. All right thanks very much for that 5 months without being able to access your accounts online and the advance on 5 months is ridiculous is now. It was new for medical people from the clubs he played for previously to carry me I think is great I think from not sure what member of the family it came from speaking said his grandson about it and it's great I think it's something the he would have enjoyed greatly in the club scene you goalkeepers in you and I think it was a fitting fitting idea and I think it went really well and just yeah I think everyone really enjoyed you know being a part of this I mean you can just give us a little insight into how you know your relationship was with Gordon give you advice but it's more than just goalkeepers was given you know Google people you know the Google provide Yeah it wasn't. The funny thing is it wasn't really a choice it was kind of back and forth it was just general conversations about about goalkeeping What was it like. For him when he was grown up you know no goalie coaches and he'd want to know what does what do you do on a daily basis and things like that so you know we'd speak about corners plays in the style of play everything so it was it was more of just you know a conversation about football when and eventually we get to speak about some of things he did in his career and you know show off his medals and and awards and things of that. Yeah it was just just good conversation and you know I think he considered me a friend and. It was just you know for the likes I feel very privileged of how there's opportunities to spend time with him. I think I'm very lucky. Sanders also spoke to Gordon son Bob who was full of praise for the service it's been a very special day it will live long in. Memory that sent off a vicious should they be very proud of that very proud of the city the numbers the service which was spot on that the family cremation. Was. Never too late but today we've been talking about this 1600000000 pound pot of cash offered by the government to less well off towns across the U.K. 493000000 has been set aside just for the West Midlands and Northwest can't be spent to laughter bricks at their own little trickle through over 7 years Labor has called it a bribe to try and persuade M.P.'s to support to raise a maize Brix it Dale is the party's M.P. In Stoke North Bruce make any additional resident in my constituency are welcome I think this is pathetic I mean if you're talking about national renewal this is less money than is being taken out of my column A by the introduction of universal credit the next 4 years is an extraordinarily pathetic amount of money. Ruth Smith isn't the only local M.P. To speak out her Labor colleagues Stoke central smile says the extra cash is less than cuts faced by Stoke on Trent city council Jake Barrie is Minister for housing communities and local government I spoke to him earlier we have a commitment to deliver on our Midlands engine I think often for people living in the West Midlands that they think that that really just means the great cities and I'm delighted that today we've come forward with a 1600000000 pound commitment to the stronger towns fund which can deliver for people who live in towns up and down England governments as I say find it easier to focus on cities but I want to release some of that huge potential that we see in our towns is this a recognition that you've been letting some parts of the country down well the government in his determination to create growth everywhere the prime minister said literally in her 1st day in the job stood on the steps of Downing Street that she wanted to have a government that would deliver growth for people who live everywhere in our country I think historically many governments have simply focused too closely on our cities and that's why we are determined through this 1600000000 pound fund release that growth in our towns Stoke on Trent is the city comprising 6 towns will be eligible to bid Well later today we're going to come forward with details of the allocation beyond the 212000000 pounds we're going to see invested in your region and those towns which make up the city of Stoke on Trent will see the opportunity to. Be M.P. For Stoke on Trent North Ruth's me through as described this is pathetic and there's less going into this than the money coming out of the economy for Universal Credit what would you say to them what I would say is that I think she's conflating several issues there this is a standalone fund nothing to do with benefits this isn't about paying people more benefits it's about creating more growth and it looks at all towns. Cross the cross England and says what interventions can take place in partnership with local authorities to release that growth the best way frankly of tackling benefits and the challenges that benefits represent for people is creating jobs growth everywhere to enable people to get back into work and get a highly paid job I think her point Tom Universal Credit is changes to Universal Credit benefits in general means people in her constituency have less money to spend and therefore the economy won't grow well I'm not sure except that all over our country we see that the number of people in work is it at a record high we have a growing economy and we need to make sure that we continue on that road in this fund 1600000000 pounds the stronger towns fund is about releasing that potential everywhere so growth isn't simply focused on our major cities what would be a good way to spend this money in your view a WERE it is up to local areas to come forward I you know I don't as minister of local growth I don't believe that anyone should be sat in Westminster telling people the best way to deliver growth in their area surely the best ideas are out there in the people who are live they're passionate about it and local authorities and that's why we've created this fund and said Where is come forward and tell us how you think you can spend this to improve your economy but you'll be judging on some kind of criteria surely as to who should get the money that they go so low this is there's no such thing as government money all of the government money that is spent belongs to the taxpayers and it's quite right that when we all spending taxpayers' cash on creating growth that we look at those plans to make sure that they deliver for the areas how will areas who get this money be deemed successful what do you want to see out of it if you got some kind of growth I know is one answer you'll get but how much growth. Well every area we looked at on an individual basis but how will I know this has been a success Well I think actually if people in all towns across our country can feel less disconnected with London will understand that the government has a plan to ensure that no matter where they live no matter what school they went to no matter whether they all ritual Paul that we have a plan to deliver growth for them to make them better off to improve their child's education that is how we measure success. So there we go thoughts from the Minister about this money that is potentially being offered to communities across the country but particularly imaginaries North Staffordshire Berry minister for housing communities and local government speaking to me earlier find out what the weather has in store for the rest of the evening overnight. Off the back a storm for a Yesterday we've seen some showers today that have contained some thunder some hail as well being heavy in places and it has been quite blustery today but reasonably mild However tonight we're looking at dry conditions and some clearer spells under the winds will be easing too but with the clear skies and the lighter winds under those clear skies it's going to turn quite chilly so we could see some patchy Fost in places temperatures nearing freezing in one or 2 spots but generally speaking around once 4 Celsius overnight and then as we head into tomorrow it's a chilly start but it's going to be dry with some sunshine Gradually though the cloud is going to increase from the southwest so we'll slowly lose that sunshine through the day and then that tower is going to bring in some outbreaks of rain which are moving in from the southwest mostly dry for the day but by the time we get to the night it's going to become windier and wetter molls through the day temperatures up to double figures but during the night also mild under that cloud and rain and with that strengthening wind we see temperatures warming to about $69.00 Celsius but the wind speeds could in exposed areas pick up to between 50 to 55 miles per hour. Probably goes with weather forecast for tomorrow. News updates on the way. a 3 when I'm back with the eighty's mixtape.
