November. 5 life was for sex. Around 2000 people in Northern California including the entire population of the town of Geyserville have been ordered out of their homes to escape a fast moving wildfire this is in the state's wine producing area the blaze flared up on when the state quickly picked up speed driven by gusts of more than 100 kilometers an hour the California Governor Gavin Newsome has been talking about what emergency teams that are facing these conditions are multi-faceted it's not just dry weather it's high winds low humidity a consequence of these characteristics aligning as they have we are taking precautions not just the utilities but the state itself correspondent in Los Angeles is David Willetts David good morning just tell us how bad this is well it's pretty bad Tom throughout California there have been a number of wildfires that have started over the last 24 hours basically a combination of factors tinder dry brush these so-called Santa Ana winds which blow pretty furiously at this time of year and the terrain which has made it very difficult for firefighters to get a handle of particular the blaze to the north of San Francisco in Sonoma County that is wind growing area of course it's broken out last night $10000.00 acres have been destroyed 2000 residents are under evacuation orders there at the winds at times 70 miles an hour plus and they've been fighting the flames there from the air for the simple reason that the terrain is so challenging but there are other fires to the north of us here in Los Angeles one of which in an area around Santa Clarita has caused a lot of people to be. Evacuate about 50000 according to officials at a news conference a short while ago that fire very fast moving as burning out of control across the Us will go back to around this time last year was that with the terrible fires that brought so much loss of life station to California. The drought that went on for what 7 years I think in California is that technically over now it is still going on in places and absolutely right I mean last year we saw the camp fire as it became known all these fires are given names because of the streets of the areas in which they are thought to have broken out and that was the deadliest the most destructive wildfire in the history of California it was also one of the world's costliest natural disasters $85.00 people died 12 were injured including 2 prison inmate firefighters and it covered an area of around 240 square miles destroyed $900000.00 structures the damage on that one put $16500000000.00 in total Tom you may remember the pictures those apocalyptic pictures from the town of Paradise which was literally reduced to Tinder Indeed I'm just reading about the power cuts as well particular up in Sonoma County where they seem to be shutting off power as a precaution as a some suggestion that that might have been the cause of the fire a power line sparking on the dry ground Well that's the interesting point because 180000 people in this state are without power or about to be without power after the electricity was cut in order to reduce the risk of accidental outbreaks because these dry and windy conditions the power companies anxious to avoid a repeat of the blazes in recent years that have been blamed on their malfunctioning equipment their elderly equipment and indeed this is something that the stay. Governor as you heard there gamma Newsome has taken issue with these accuse the power companies here in many cases of putting basically profits ahead of people he said it's about corporate greed and about decades of mismanagement the fact that they have failed to attend to problems with infrastructure here and that those problems in many cases have caused sparks which have led to these deadly wildfires Yeah that's very interesting thank you very much David that's a story that will be keeping track of here on up and I would imagine over the next few nights as well so if they get that under control started with us our correspondent in Los Angeles that is no media storm like the one that results from a controversial book being made into a controversial film back in 2060 in the novel kimchi young born 982 was published it tells the story of an ordinary 30 something Korean woman juggling work and family and the gender discrimination that she faces faces at each phase of her life the book was hailed by some as one of the most important feminist novels in Korea but led to an outcry from anti feminists in the country earlier this week the film version was released in South Korea people flocked to web portals to give bad ratings even before it was released and the actress who was cast in the title role got thousands of hate comments on her Instagram feed there was even a petition asking the president not to allow the release of the movie The B.B.C.'s Julie Yoon has seen the film and read the book Julie good morning good morning so here you've read the book you've seen the film and you've seen the backlash against it 1st of all just tell us what this story's all about. So like you said it is a story about Kenya which is also a name that's the most popular name at the time also a very common name so in a way that it's showing that young is a story of all and any Korean woman. And it's really goes back from her upbringing her time in college her time at working as a working woman and now as a mother so it just goes it's her life story and it isn't really a raging manifesto by any means but a lot of the readers especially female readers who really could sympathize and empathize with her and said that it is a true reflection of our lives I mean of like woman's lives in South Korea and I guess for some people that was very uncomfortable and I think that really brings it back to the for the anti-feminist to say that it is it is stalking feminism against men and that it is unfair portrayal of men the male characters in the book just give us a bit of context to this career in particular the patriarchal society I mean it is one of the richest country in East Asia but yes it is still culturally conservative and it is working way it's through. The spine What is that like to. Big b. a Woman and I could have an equal society but I think the timing of the book's publication date was really interesting so in 2016 if we go back the book was published later that year but earlier that year there was this murder case in Come now which you're all familiar for I'm coming up style it's a very it's like a party district and there was a murder case and it was a famous Night case so the guy said after when he was being taken to the police he said that he targeted a female victim and that was because that he felt that he was the being ignored by women in South Korea so that really acted as a trigger for a lot of South Korean women to really reflect on the treatment that they have received living in the country and all this things that had been very deeply ingrained in our society and thinking that is a normal thing was perhaps something to revisit as a society and we should really tackle what is going on behind the scenes and then the book came out that same year. And it touches a lot of things like the spike can be done make a habit took over the country last year there is a little incident in the book which talks about that there is a camera installed in women's bathroom in the office that used to work at so there is one incident like that and all those like little discriminations that she experience along the way that may seem subtle but has affected the country for 60 years. Or so for that people have been reading it and it's a $1000000.00 bestseller in South Korea but some felt really strongly about it because it's only telling they believe that it's only telling one side of the story so this new film it has been released and seems to have reignited the backlash from 2016 what kind of things we seem to get by the petition but there's been outcry and social media as well as into. Yes So there has been negative reviews even before the movie came out and they're going to a lot of Internet trolling for movie stars and Kid Rock Stars who has even merely suggest that that they are going to go watch the film or they Sopore fellow actors an actor to starred in the film or that they are interested in going to see the film. But also I think more than anything people are going back to that question of being like why are people so eager to watch the film when it is an unfair portrayal of men. And I think the movie the movie came out earlier this week and I was I actually went to see it yesterday and compared to the book the novelist self. It definitely tells the same story but the way that it tells it is in some way softer than the book so I don't think once people see the film maybe they wouldn't feel as strongly about it I think it was made for a wider audience but we'll see I don't know I think after the weekend we will see more reaction from the public and how people feel about the book and the story that it's telling but something that was really interesting about the book is that even though it's a novel the writer decided to incorporate footnotes so telling that this affection nerves fictional story 'd but there are elements that we should be reminded that this is actually happening in our lives I'm just looking at some of the statistics around gender equality in South Korea it's in the 63 percent of men salaries is that the sort of average earning for women in South Korea that's a that's a pretty pig a big pay gap among developed nations isn't it. It certainly is and the Global Gender Gap Report also highlighted that in terms of wage equality there are major Berenice and the South Korea as well go lower than the global average and I think that is coupled with a lot of things South Korean woman often most of that is specially people who were born to 82 and my parents' generation it was the norm to quit the job to raise family and so they gathered under kept definitely widens one's like the woman in their thirty's just quit their job and it just gets wider and wider So I think because the story tells it's not just one chapter of woman's life but it really ghost grew from the childhood to the motherhood that a lot of people have been emphasizing to the story and voicing out that maybe the shit we evaluate what we consider as the more you know I'm just reading there was even an incident was in the recently went to a little make a quest to the female candidate for the top job during the confirmation hearing asking her why she was single Exactly so why do you know a thing was that the board and a low birth rate problem is a serious problem in South Korea and that the lawmaker decided to raise the point that she hasn't been a dutiful citizen because she hasn't had a child when the when the current one Korea struggling with low birth rate so. It's one way to look at it I guess and he thought he had to voice that out during the hearing so I think it show it really shows the disparity between men and women how they view the society in South Korea and I think one of the biggest thing is that. The compulsory conscription in South Korea so South Korea still technically at war with North Korea and so for 62 years South Korean men and women needed to join the army for about 2 years and it's getting shorter and shorter every year but it is true legally a woman are exempt from this so a lot of young male especially when the job market it's so competitive in South Korea these days they feel that by default it is unfair for them as a young citizen of South Korea to make a good living to live a good life so I think there are a lot of their unique elements in South Korea where this book which is not had been like that minister. Became such a big issue here and left a lot of controversies here and there but I think it's be talks beyond it's not just about the book but it's about all the things that's happening South Korean society in the past year I see it's been translated into English hasn't it and it's been a bestseller in other countries in Southeast Asia as well is it a uniquely Korean story or is it something that can translate into other cultures. You know it's really it's good that you asked I recently interviewed the translator for the u.k. Version. And I asked that very same question to you and you know as a translator do you think that the book is very uniquely Korean and she said that thing the discrimination and the fear is a woman that we experience is universal and it should speak to all women in the world. And there are definitely elements that South Koreans or particularly like Asia. Call it sure is what I understand more but I mean like all good literature I think it had that universal quare a bad strike across the board so not to know the uniquely Korean stories an interesting one I wonder if Willem So you got attention at some point on this and this country as well Judy thank you very much as fascinating story that's the B.B.C.'s Julie talking about the backlash to this 2016 novel that's now been turned into a movie it's called can be young 1982 and she's mentioned that there is an English translation of it available now yes school district is banned students who have more than 75 dollars in lunch debt from attending the prom and other extracurricular activities the school group school board president of Cherry Hill in New Jersey said the plan struck a balance of compassion while holding people accountable that this isn't the 1st time that Cherry Hill has announced measures to deal with mounting lunch debt earlier in the year it said that students who were behind on payments would only be given Cina sandwiches rather than a full meal although that idea was withdrawn after a public outcry and you may go now ski has written about this for the Huffington Post and she described the Cherry Hill area for me is just outside of Camden New Jersey or across the river from Philadelphia it is comprised of 1000 schools has a rough way 11000 students within it says middle school elementary school high school a public school system so this really gets down to this idea of of lunch debt just for the listeners in the u.k. Who might not know what that is just explain kind of what lunch debt is and how big an issue it is in parts of America Sure well the students are responsible for paying for their own lunches this is created massive problem at schools across across the country and there was one recently another school district in Pennsylvania that warned that students that they could end up in foster care if their parents did not pay their overdue school lunch bills. And that in Florida or no. Another story a man came forward and offered to pay almost a $1000.00 in the town's school lunch debts because they were struggling so much and some cases controversial stories us students have been threatened saying that they will not be able to eat they won't be provided a school lunch and that was actually one policy that the Cherry Hill Board of Education did consider over the summer for certain students they wouldn't receive the lunch and other cases if they only know it so much they would receive a special sandwich just specifically a tuna fish sandwich and that would in some state and students said that that would be like a badge of shame at that individual with the tuna fish couldn't afford an actual lunch will there was something of a backlash against that policy was and of course yes. They've been arguing about this for weeks and months now it's gotten the national attention with several of the White House politicians our. Candidates Cory Booker Elizabeth Warren Bernie Sanders they've all responded to it's saying that it's just shameful specifically and that the Cherry Hill Board of Education has agreed that they will feed all of their students. All the same meal they decide on that because there was such backlash However they've changed their policy so that students who go $75.00 are more and launched that way to essentially be punished and that they'd be barred from participating an extracurricular activities that is at 8 schools each school would consult with their principal on whether or not that would actually take place as the schools discretion as to whether they are willing to listen so what kind of money are we talking about how much is a kind of typical lunch going to cost a student in a school in this area I don't know the specifics about these specific schools they ranch all across the country. But at this point the school district is saying that they have about $18000.00 in debt from all that their students the school 2nd semester school year is just started for them in 2017 they had reported about $25000.00 in debt. Civically from students not paying their lunch and the superintendent of this district has come forward arguing his belief that many of the parents can pay for their lunch that it's not a matter of not having enough money but they choose not to and they have made it clear to him that they will not be paying and so he's trying to take a more disciplinary method here and there so it's a he's not saying it's a necessary course in a public he it's a it's a question of the sort of parents being unwilling to stump up the money for it I mean is is is there a program whether it's a state wide thing a rather than a federal thing but is there a program where some students are eligible for free school meals anyway yes they will and fight students who are at a certain amount of debt to apply for a program where they would get either free or reduced school lunches and that is a common program around the country here so a lot of attention on this on the school board for you know a lot of the tensions come on the idea of students not being allowed to go to prom not taking part in things like field trips if they're in lunch that proms obviously a very big deal in the u.s. It is becoming some big deal for students over here as well so a lot of attention focused kind of on that policy has there been much of a backlash and we said we talked about the Cina sandwich back classes the been much of an outcry about the idea of barring kids from going to prom compact that much that well yes some of the politicians Elizabeth Warren and various other did get specific about that policy in general saying that they shouldn't be punished about such a thing that's just ridiculous some people would say that if it is a matter of money. These these kids specially the more poorer kids and more impoverished that they especially of all people should be having experiences like this and they should not be stripped of bomb you'll hear you know 2 different arguments for both sides or. A mass present when you're talking about the budget of 11 schools some would argue that $100000.00 isn't a huge amount of money has the been any suggestion that they could just wipe out the lunch that yes the superintendent has spoken out just this summer that he is not in support of doing that. Like I said he's accused some parents of having the money but outright refusing to pay up when contacted and appears to be to him more of a disciplinary method rather than $1.00 to acquire the money owed so teach the students and away set an example so there's no lesson if you just completely wipe it away and there has been a local businessman who has come forward on social media and he has said repeatedly that he would pay the students debt to completely wipe it out as was someone did in 2017 for the district. But now the school's disputing whether or not this man actually did come forward and make this offer to them are not they're denying that he never reached or that he ever reached out I spoke with this man's son last night and he is denying that his father never reached out and has cited his father's similar work in the area with feet in local communities and families and so they just think that he does have the means and the desire but the school does not seem to want to accept the money the school has said that if anybody does want to make donations they haven't suggested wiping helping wipe out the student debt but that people can donate to a specific program they have which helps send home food to students at the end of the day synagogue I ask you from. Having to post talking us through that story of the school board in New Jersey who are threatening effectively to take away things like Prime Minister curricular activities away from kids who who aren't able or choose not to pay their lunch debt I did check by the way since that interview on how much it costs to buy lunch in a school or a high school in that part of the world about $3.00 a day 3 dollars 10 if you're in high school just in case you're wondering so they're talking about kids who racking up debt of $7500.00 or so obviously not paying for quite a few lunches whether that's because they can afford to or not is open to question going to time to tell you what's coming up on 5 Live later on Rebecca Ferguson is going to be the guest with Simon marks film review show you can hear that from 3 o'clock here on 5 live this afternoon of course she can grab it on the podcast as well she's going to be talking about her role in talk to sleep and Terminator fans they'll be reviewing Terminator dark fate which is just opened in cinemas That's the latest attempt to revive the Terminator franchise and it's worth saying the 1st film as well to feature Linda Hamilton since terminated to source are produced by her ex-husband the creator of Terminator James Cameron and from 8 o'clock tonight on 5 live Sport There's live commentary on the Premier League game between Southampton and less the city coming up after the news and sport we're going to hear a pretty special headliners pod cast Now if you don't know what the headline is podcast is it's the home of long form big interviews here on 5 Live you can get really long to 45 minute hour long conversations between the generally present set and some of the biggest names in entertainment we head to the archive right now on the sounds that you'll be able to hear Liam Gallagher Christopher Ecclestone Billy Connolly and the likes but you going to hear an interview that I handed with Regina King about her role in Sky Atlantic's Watchmen about appearing in boys in the hood being a child actress in America and about how her mom inspired her success and why she decided to take on the role of a superhero as a woman in her forty's it's a cracking mess and so all of that is on the way very shortly but 1st at half past 3 here's the latest news with Alex Rozental from digital b.b.c. Regina King is in the building how are you going to know great our you know good kind of community just say I'm loving your baby boy look. Bring the tracksuit top that are playing you're going to throw down we're going to take it back yeah back to the eighty's you know you can't see it all but out one up you it's not actually a tracksuit it's more of a one. Bedroom of Thurman killed. Oh my gosh she went 0 to Missy Elliott Oh me. You did it it's Ok if you get there now I was there there were so many things I wanted to play you know to just get you on side immediately and we could get clearance for any of them I wanted to get the 2 to 7 the soundtrack that I wanted to get that song to start off go back to those Brenda Jenkins days of what were you 14 years old yes I was very good yeah very good when you go back to those days you had a clip of boys in the hood I love that saying you at the barbecue giving it 100 percent to you you want 100 percent of good yeah. Amazing and then I had a clip from roadhouse of Sam Elliot I wanted to clear before we get into Watchmen Let's talk about. This movie Road else yeah that was my that was my discovery my introduction to one of the greatest What is really about this man but you. Know I just see just is just. So this is the actor known for his luscious white gray logs and there. I don't know just something about him is just so srong so. Charming but has a little something that feels mysterious behind it I don't know and it surely should have made sense to me like that at that age I don't know what I was feeling but I know that I loved it and it probably could have been it was him and Patrick Swayze together who I just loved as well so that combination which is kind of like the $12.00 punch that manifested itself throughout your adult years that you know you're on the hunt for gray mustaches whenever you. Were these the gray mustache of this restaurant Well if they kept it tight like Sam is done I mean Sam still looks amazing doesn't because oh yeah everything's about Clooney but I mean gone check out Sam Yeah man see how a man should I. Actually perfectly Let's go back to this 14 year old who's in this t.v. Show in America this is family t.v. Show. Looking back what do you think of her now not as an actor but as a person with a life ahead of her dreams or a separation you know I mean I was really a kid doing kid things. Kid things. Like a memoir to find out what I mean here I feel lucky that there were no camera phones or any of that happening you know in those years because you know something. May or may not have been captured. On the phone that I didn't want my parents to know. You were living your best that I was living my best life. But always respectful never wanted to disappoint my mom. So I don't know I think about it just recently someone they actually cleared that clip and I got more organized than I got to watch a bit of it and I just can't believe our high my voice was just it was so high. I mean that teenage rebellion clearly you just added a caveat to that which was you know within the limits of respect to my parents because you said you didn't have a mother you had a mama mama Yeah Ok let's talk about the distinction between a mother and a mama. If you had a mama you probably got weapons. If you had a mama you were for sure embarrassed before in public she may not have been her intention to embarrass you but she didn't give a. Yeah and it was going down it was time to get in trouble but those those are the biggest distinctions between mama in mother and kids in the neighborhood called her Yoda. Yes because she just. You have done your research come on I'm no joke. I'm not pretty normal. She has the ability to just if she if she was just using Jet I mind tricks or did she really know because. How did she know that we were the here and we were doing that how did she just knew how to get it out of you but then also at the same time she never made you feel like she was judging you you know she was you got some parenting I think it was absolutely absolutely So yes she was used to she had the that she had I mind tricks. I mean that strength is something clearly the helped you throughout your career because you know you 3 decades deep into this the really manage and there are people who don't last 3 years in this career that you're in they don't even get near this career this is true this is true I recognize that I see the blessing I do and that is largely down to her waist now it's down to you and your talent but the self belief that you have to have because of course it's an industry where you are constantly. Well I mean you I mean I know dition is a brutal process and so absolutely right the rejection that you have to deal with throughout that time is a strength is a focus that got you through those times absolutely just you know the environment that she created the people that were in our lives you know she just just feel like the majority of the people around us growing up were positive people. Very strong will people and so when that is your experience most of the time this foundation is built or that you're not even realizing is being built and you're pulling from things that feel natural to you until you actually get out in the world more and exposed to more things than you realize wow this isn't how everyone thinks or how everyone moves this is. The way we do because it's the way our mom had the. I mean do you. What was her attitude towards dealing with oppression and prejudice. Well I mean you know just as you know just being a person of color it never. It never not exist it's always been a part of. Just our existence but I guess. She just always I just was always very clear to said that that wasn't. Who we are and that isn't so I want to find it exactly and just. You always are going to have like we always hated that term sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt you . Words last much longer than you know. Fall you remember those things more and again what other people's judgments are thoughts don't dictate who you are or you control that and I guess just having that always in her living by their creed. That's how my sister and I. That's how we row have you. Ever been to see a therapist to ask the question why is it I like going to a dentist is it so. No children like doing the therapist could not or that. The only question you should be asking if ever is why I said child 2 I love. There is no child other than perhaps the new on planet. Because I say just go back to the service and ask that question because that I must. Know the answer I will. As she or she or he is looking at these wonderful choppers amazing. Ok I've only had 2 dentists my entire life my pediatric dentist and my dentist as an adult right and I did not want to leave my dentist at 18 that last appointment was very emotional Ok because Dr rebel just made the experience. Great you know in my mother was always big on making sure. Yearly physical and dentist visits were always in order you know taking care of yourself physically mentally and spiritually was always a. Part of our lives so she found a dentist because she I guess maybe she didn't have a great experience as a dentist found a pediatric dentist that he loved and his nurse he says dental assistant was his wife and her hair was it was white but it reminded me of cotton candy and her name was in they were just so sweet in and I just love the. Lawsuit Over just talking about this but it's a rare reminiscence and it's a really crazy is maybe I should talk to the therapist because I mean he Dr Drew bell with hands that were so big that you know in tiny your kid's mouth this this is about the sound really weird I think we'll just leave it Ok when you write your memoir put it in there and come back on the show and we'll talk about Ok we go do we go until. How was it I mean leaving the University of Southern California when you realize you wanted to act you know because of course for a lot of people educate for our parents' generation education is a path out of whatever situation for knowledge is power. And a university degree is just one of those things that it's not Ok this is what you have to have right Ok and then to leave to go into the notoriously. Secure Well the luck to where I mean that is a big jump isn't it. Yes and No Ok because I was already had been a child actor that's true I was on I was the last couple of years of 2 to 7 I was going back and forth from the studio to classes at s.c. And. My mother being a teacher yes that was a big deal to her. As she never really let on. How disappointed she was at my decision to leave. But she was supportive because while. Education in that form is important what's more important to her is educating yourself. Piri that you should leave every situation feeling like you have learned something you should be seeking knowledge in that school. Format is not great for everyone there are plenty of smart people who. The school just doesn't. Is not the lane where they where they where their intellect will flourish it's just doesn't work that way for a lot of people and. I was one of those people yeah but you found your line and look you're an Oscar winner so I think that's what took quite well for your work out let me. Let me down let's get to Watchmen now because people told you you know they were advising you Oh Ok Your friends of like should you be doing this because it's out there but you'll some really want you to do this. Is what I read yes yes yes well. I think. I've always wanted to play super hero So yeah let's let's also say that yeah but those emails still going to rage and every kind of when you go into your forty's hey hey what are you doing oh yeah you know what I'm doing I want to I really gotta let it happen while me still you know I can jump and kick thing I'm not even in what Conda but that's what's annoying me no I didn't even get into work I'm very black and bad Moby but may. Surely you're having a conversation with him about Black Panther 2. So you want to do this right this is yes yes yes and that think for my son just that's just the I was I was that into comic books in comic book adaptations as much as my son. Is and so to have. You know his mother have that opportunity I had not heard of Watchman. Apparently to him I had heard of the movie when he you know I guess when he was on his way to go watch the movie I didn't do any research about what movie was going to go some so I don't know what that means to me maybe I am doing one of the segments you were you're going to go to after this is people who are over parenting Yeah they're overdoing it clearly I didn't do that you know that much more or less a fair I believe is the French would at the Cheetos and that's good and he's turned out well so it was turned out well he's turned out one out now you talk to some of his friends that they would not say that you know they say you know Mr King Don't take no mess. Yeah insists on them calling you Miss King No no he was your son's friends calling you by your 1st name. I mean it's I mean a lot of friends have called your mother by 1st you know now what a lot of his friends are my friends all the way from teenage years mothers you know so we've they've only heard Regina right so those would be the friends that and they don't say Regina they say on t.v. Regina. Yeah well I mean you know black people we have tons of play because. Everyone I grew up with was along a little down a street with an Italian auntie so watchman it is extraordinary where it takes us and I started watching and thought Ok I'm totally freaked out by this and 1st my feeling was that was a negative thing and then I learned actually to be free by watching something where I just don't know where it's going to take take Yeah the freedom of thought and suddenly made me see in a whole different way wow that's you know what I think I'm going to have to handcuff that. As I move forward with other interviews because that's what I hope happens for people. That people reserve any of their judgment. If they're if they're still holding on to it until they finish all 9 episodes because at the end of it all. It's it is entertainment but we do want to vote conversation that helps people to know that helps because this is not like a self-help show but encourages people to talk about the things that are un comfortable. And we've talked around these things racing and policing in America. For as long as I can remember. A lot of people who are well I don't. See it I don't see it so it's not happening it's not happening and it's been happening. For as long as I can remember but that's where your character in the scenarios your character is putting in the Sonora the context of the Regina re so on settle in because it's not like watching Star Wars or Star Trek in the hundreds of years in the future in completely different universes you you can touch it you can see where society could potentially have limits to those things that you see in watchman those things that you see in a watchman and then in the look she is that she is a black police officer you know so I think that the way it was the story is laid out the. Particular faces that you have that are telling the story. Are the reason why people are drawn in are even more like whoa what's going on here this feels eerily familiar but yet this is so different this is not our world but it is you know that's that's apart from when Jeremy Irons comes in and that freaks me to Hello Ok I'm just saying like the best way you know you want to see what they hate is going on the 100 percent right. That comes in from such the left field right and things happen in that which I'm not going to get why people need to go and check out watchman. How is this going to fit with everything else that's going on for some reason it does yes and when it does it's not going to be nice. It's not going to work out and it's now and nothing is going to be what you expect just soon as you think you got it you think you know where we're going. Yeah we're going to flip it on it it I mean you clearly. Feeling so blessed to be in the space where you are right now you know multi would winning choosing the work that you feel most challenges you and brings interest to your life I just thought it was fascinating when you won new or Sco how to children you looked initially when they gave the name out you just kind of learned over to Mom Hey yeah cool I got this then of course you had your dress which was extraordinary I think Chris Evans helped Julie Yeah and then then the roar emotion came out once you go into the stuff yeah you can't hold bad in but you try to play a cool guy do you really know the acting skills didn't you know they didn't pay off in that mind what does it feel like to stand up on that stage and see a roomful of your peers holding an Oscar. You're vibrating but then there's just so much good energy that was coming from the audience like I just I've felt nothing but love and I know it sounds very good and. I don't know. Why you don't know granola for you know no good no Me Ok. But then I really feel the love and then on my my mom right there you know there is nothing more comforting than looking into your mother's eyes for those of us who've been blessed enough to have wonderful relationships with their moms and there's nothing more comforting in that there's nothing more comforting then your mother some male. In. Just her pride so. Just having that there in. Everyone. I just felt like everyone was experiencing it with me you know I would look in a few faces in just see the smiles the look in Amy Adams vase in you know she just was you know right there like I can see from there was go along girl she was in a nice great love she did I mean few days before she said she had woke up and said a prayer for me and that was exciting when you meet someone who you think is over talent that you know nothing about their their background and then you find out in a quick quick moment that she's just a spiritual as you are that she's waking up been giving thanks as well and that with that was I know I went way off away from that day but that was a really special moment for me that I had with Amy a couple weeks before what do you still have from the goody bag what do you know is the Oscar goody bags the kind of legendary right kind of things you get them as books are they a Ricky device once had a watch on the. He showed me yeah and it was you didn't get a goody bag I did you left it one of the parties did you did you booze you know. I did now but I think they're cutting back on things. That yeah austerity Oscars Yeah. Ok you can make them turn finally a. Lot of there are a lot of trips but like you know when do you have time to like go on a trip that it's 22 hours to get there $12.00 Yeah but I haven't been able to make good on any of the oh no I did on the Turks and Caicos one 0. Yes I was very bored so yeah I'll take all that back yeah that one with the awesome so this and congratulations on what you mean you must be very excited that this is happening and I guess all that tough love from your mama from Mom Mom helped considerably to get where you are now yeah I think so Regina it's been a pleasure Likewise thank you so much this is so weird having to talk into the camera I'm in i.c.u. Right here and I just want to keep going. Typical film star she sees a camera she has to look I right get into that I'm right there's no question of a being off camera in fact we should put market reaction exactly register and then we could have done a walkthrough before Regina King Oscar winner Amy win a Golden Globe winner as I said Oklahoma Critics Circle when I. Did my research take care thanks for listening if you enjoyed that remember to subscribe so you never miss an episode but for some reason you have to listen to my b.b.c. When you. Play nearly from anyone else this c.b.c. Radio. To see Radio 5 Live this is and I'm Tom Green the main news on 5 Live Boris Johnson has called for an election before Christmas in small subset Nicholas Pappas saves the day. Late on the right to leak. This is b.b.c. 5. And with the b.b.c. News on 5 Live his Alex Rozental Boris Johnson suggested the u.k. Won't leave the European Union at the end of this month the prime minister says he wants a general election on December the 12th and he's offered to give M.P.'s more time to scrutinise his breaks it deal if they back the idea his political correspondent Helen can't get in labor on site is really important for us. And he's going to get his election Jeremy Corbin has said take no deal off the table and we absolutely support a general election he says the e.u. Will decide whether there is an extension and then Labor can decide so it's a case of waiting a bit longer to see if labelled back this election or not police investigating the death of 39 people whose bodies were found in a lorry in Essex have been given more time to question the driver on suspicion of murder the 8 women and 31 men are believed to be Chinese nationals though this hasn't been confirmed that this ng is from the Joint Council for the welfare of immigrants to get into the back of a lorry and then to travel such a long distance however they travelled overland seems points to an enormous degree of desperation and that's in part because there are no safe routes for them to make that journey there is no legal way for them to make that journey if indeed they were coming is settle or to seek asylum it's emerged the Home Office was warned 2 years ago that border force had staffing problems at East Coast ports including Purfleet in Essex where that lorry arrived in the u.k. The independent chief inspector for borders and immigration David Bolt also said he was concerned about the management of Border Force operations at the ports about 2000 people in Northern California including the entire population of the town will have been ordered out of their homes because of a.
