Radio Shropshire travel by train some. D.C. Radio show up here with me Mark Kelly good morning it's going to be fairly autumnal despite bits of sunshine this afternoon it will be dry and fine a few patches of clouds dotting around in the skies it will feel quite pleasant but light winds will make it feel a little bit colder perhaps than the 13 to 16 degree maximum temperature that we're expecting today 55 to 61 degrees Fahrenheit could drop as low as for tonight as well seasons are changing at an. Eh. Let's go. Ahead. Live. May. So I had him on a film like a woman on B.B.C. Radio Shropshire still time to get in your stories about big personal physical challenges. You've taken on and overcome I way tell me 19696 is a fair number of free of charge during that one you can text this is well with the story 13 to Bill 3 just start your message with Shrub it'll cost the standard message right sorry it could be running it could be cycling it should be climbing a mountain we've had all of the above today Christian Catley is a running Good morning Chris so I can monitor them very well thank you good to tell me a bit about the places you run because you've you've toured around with a little band so. I have to a certain extent I'll talk more about my slightly mad 71 year old gardener in a show how but yes certainly running has taken me to far and wide places my favorite challenge so far personally was the Rome marathon which is just out of this world if anybody is looking for American beautiful animation absolutely stunning you don't actually realize you're running 26 miles up the best thing about it. So much to see. But I think you're absolutely hit the nail on the head earlier somebody said you know everyone has their own personal challenge and as somebody who organized the help a part run event back in 2013 you know I've seen 15000 people registered since and you know these are people of all ages all abilities and to a lot of people 5 is a big challenge you know whether they walk or run it so for me the majority of what I've done has been about giving people the platform to be able to take on those challenges and you know this so many benefits not just physical but also the mental health and well being as well how important is it you mentioned trying to have a distraction to when you doing some epic to have something to focus on the isn't how tired you are really every every race there is I mean from a I think one of the training for a van an event and I'm not a fast runner never never been a fast runners it's probably I just. Explain to me it's more about you know we're being able to drift away into my own little world and that only comes with practice if you focus on what you physically doing the whole time then then it becomes a very hard event if you do so of have the ability to you know think of something else you know look around at the same Very take in your surroundings then that makes any distance a whole lot easier to do it in the mind of it. Yeah absolutely love it I've had a few health issues myself this year which has meant more running has declined quite rapidly but I'm on the bounce back the moment so I'm hoping to get back up to Mars in distance because of and the Sierra Leone marathon next year for a charity called Street child why he wouldn't ordinarily receive an education and they give those kids an education so I mean the below my next big challenge that won't even be on Tomic when it's for the ball well most sort of a Sunday place Yeah but it is through the jungle and about 30 degrees and about 90 percent humidity so that's going to be the biggest challenge this is going to sandwich you enjoy the pain is the something to pass it back to. The Times. Completely obvious but oh always after the I think the feeling of elation that you get off the any event you know regardless of distance my sister's brilliant example you know she's she was always the person that didn't do running. And then something happened last year she downloaded the N.H.S. Couch to 5 K. And she decided to give it a go now she then turned 10 cases down a few 10 cases just ended a 10 miler never say never is the message I thought. The hate in Sierra Leone is going to be a rage assessment it is going to be outrageous for me now I'm lucky enough to visited Sierra Leone before in a different capacity however it is going to be a real challenge the major challenge would have thought there is good supplies of water along the route but of the it takes a lot more than just water to get you through 26 miles but hopefully I should be OK My biggest inspiration can't go without without talking about my dad now he's 7071 years old he finished running on the 7th continent last year in Antarctica. I'd love to have got him on air today actually but he's actually in the in the Azores. Doing 4 races in 4 days speaks as we speak is 2 and a half marathon and around the rim of a volcano the last. How do you run in the Antarctic in conditions like that I mean you literally running 3 snow in which case that's like doing about 6 marathons in one isn't it yeah so it's well again the conditions can be challenging I mean it's a half marathon which is more than enough he does yes only help marathons now half marathons nowadays is doing his 1st full marathon lighted it's here in in fairness that's his 1st for Marfan for quite a while. Running in Antarctica or I mean the challenge of cold and he's going to run in Siberia before and the polar icecap in Greenland. But the challenge of running in cold is as difficult as the challenge of running in the heat you know because in the cold one of the biggest problems is that you don't realize when you are becoming dehydrated. And people generally don't drink enough water but weather wise I mean he was fairly lucky some of the free snow ice ice spikes on only shoes. But yes some of it is for the snow but I know towards the end of the last year the weather really came in it's got some brilliant photos on this Web site Richard stuccoed or U.K. If anybody wanted to take a look is he running on or in a big carved by the way or is it like a cross country skiing type thing. I mean it's not ridiculously using a layering system not right going to you're going to generate enough heat for your own body be still need like self correctly make sure you wear in the correct K. I mean you know well you know running along in a German sleeping bag or anything pictures because you're all going to warm up but it's more about of the being able to sustain yourself for the distance and finding the balance but between hot and cold you give his book a plug I interrupted you halfway through oh no problem and he's a. Now published 2 books his 1st book running hot and cold talks about his journey I was thinking I'm in the reviews a 5 star reviews of both of these books. And they're brilliant in the sense that it's not what your Imagine a running book to be it's not just about running it's more to do with how running has helped him throughout life for his own mental health difficulties difficult venture and his life and how anybody can do it they are seriously inspiring reads of the I would say that his son but he has one hell of a hurry in following him. Now it is absolutely couldn't be more inspiring and it's certainly rubbed off on me his current event taking part in this week all the 4 events he's taking part in this week are for a charity called international animal rescue which kills her charity My sister works for. A major amazing things in habitat across the world making sure you know the world's most precious species are kept alive and well and not mistreated. That is current charities raise money for all sorts of charities over the Bernie Chris will try to catch it we again when you get back from Sierra Leone a farce or a super Yes I look forward to it really Chris in Catley Well he knows where he gets it from I think it's fair to say there's only one person to blame there isn't that the Chris is rather incredible running challenges so from the Antarctic to Sierra Leone between the 2 of them Christie starts they've run half marathons marathons in all of the above which takes a lot of boxes doesn't it in terms of life's challenges Hola know it's a money now came in the Commodore said to come like he's trouble needs as well and so much more because we're going to get involved in Shropshire is most wanted before 11 o'clock as well. So you can. See. She's. Now Wilcox has been in such. A. Climb of snowed in and. I mean that's phenomenal. Yet. I'm not surprised. Railways autumn autumn festival which is happening them include some some night services as well this weekend on something interesting happening a Erdington hole which basically through the day if you go there progresses through the decades as the days go as the day goes on from than the 1900 to the 1960 S. By late afternoon so with something going on on on the some value railway Let's speak to somebody else with a brilliant story to tell or many of them we love bringing you great stories on B.B.C. Radio Shropshire Amy Douglas professionally tells them Good morning Amy how why kids are loaning I'm very well you don't say I'm all right how did you become a professional storyteller. I couldn't not really. I just fell in love with stories when I discovered the storytelling still existed when I was 13 and until then I'd read about them in bit and thought well I have all they all these days why why they disappeared in the modern day world and then realized that they hadn't. So I started going to storytelling when the cage when I was 14 and then people started asking us will you come into our school our village who will so I was just telling stories here there and everywhere start going to lots of festivals and it just got to a point where I thought well if I want to tell my stories I'm going to have to do it full time and that's what I did OK yeah I think having a bit distracted by school and chemistry and various things I decided to lay I'm going to be a storyteller said you should have trouble writing festivals and things like that you thought the bulk of your work would you pay and also it's a strange man yes I am hearing all sorts of strange twenty's I mean in. The last 10 years I've done a lot of work in education I've got 2 children and I love touring I love doing I don't perform is another storytelling but it does mean that you're out a lot of evenings in the law and so I don't see my children. And I also stories it's just all they all the traditional way to teach I mean. You don't realise that you're learning I mean that's our children always would have been taught in the palace and it can be quite physical with he can be outside and so it is quite a lot of. Work maybe to like with 80 boys and these ones he just likes to get reading and writing game to the point of a call. Can be both I take it. But I didn't take since we didn't say in a table we got assigned to go on treasure hunts big on adventure and then going to see riddles and just that little bit to run a taste in a knots of stories they don't even realize that that that they're writing I may have to have something to want to want to bounce and to make up stories you have just had lots of stories and understand how they were some of the lots of that but yeah I I do quite a lot on sentences and history festivals and you'll find me in the wood spaces doing story walks and and because if you're in a peaceful much cool mystical setting already then you already are funny that being in a store yourself funny absolutely So do you make them up all of these things passed down generations that are quite anxious that they're generally things that been pastime generations and quite ancient but you tend to find that the stories that songs that long survive because they've got something to say I know that the world changed quite a lot people haven't. So if you're telling stories about about people in the conditions of people living in kind of all of those things about love and disaster and loss and how people relate to each other those things are always ongoing I instantly think of the balance of Robyn Hode and somebody with a least. I have to confess to I don't play the lead. But sure she has amazing heroes as our own I mean we've got Humphrey Kynaston up next class where he would use you know very like Robin Hood except it was a nobleman and it was not wasteful but then he lost everything ended up in the woods so how will the poor people living in them became hero and started rubbing the rich and became a highwayman and lots of stories about his amazing acts Dolly and Kobe also Bob and nobody was sure if it actually was the devil himself you know Humphrey made a deal with to be history. It's just it's amazing course and so he will be wanting the rich and giving to the pole where I live in basis Castle the area that we all are and his wild eyed Rick country and of course he was the great hero of the angry Saxons when William came in and conquered it wasn't it didn't all just finish on the field in 1066 lots of people held against him and while that Drake is said to have been the one I'm going to talk noble that never bend his knee to William and instead made a bit of a deal with him because a long story but he had this beautiful family wife and I know him said Anybody with a wife is beautiful you know I'd hate to cause your wife distress say let's sort of sit and work deal between us and that was the excuse obviously it had more to do with how much was I just was kind of carrying his forces and what I saw in the scientists was that this lots of stories about was I just can he supposed to still be sleeping underneath the sign to stay until the day that we need to make haste and then I'll come riding out and say so and so many areas and cultures how about some future king with oleander Levy and opportunities like yes yes yes so he's out there meaning Tell me about blast because the 1st one of your session is on Friday is not right is yes a plus beautiful lies and startling trees these are stories to adults to just get lots of stories and it's great to have stories but sometimes it's good to just send them away these stories for so they are doesn't sound so you talking about snakes and we've got Michael Harvey coming from from Wales and he's going to tell him of the great Welsh I thinks and I'm up in Oakland and it's a story of Bronwyn and is a very ancient story but in the same way that we're talking about people don't really change that very very much it's a wonderful story it's really focuses the landscape but it's about the royal family and the king. Britain Bryan and his daughter plan and and a great wedding though Bronwyn is being married to the King of Ireland except there is one road royal member one members a royal family who is full of mischief he gets offended very easily and he does one terrible act and then to sense the politics of the time into chaos and it's about all the repercussions and consequences if that that's not one cent in his act so still quite modern. What so when is it how do people come in those on Friday night this fine day. Those open a half past 7. Starts at 830 at amazing selection of hay made cake I mean always have to be eaten free and I speak and because you want everybody to be able to come there's big IF YOU WANT TO DRINK IT We do have a 2 free flowing breweries and Mrs castles to be laid bare but there's also lots of me and just come along it's 8 times Paterson $25.00 times for Greek to full said to be environmentally friendly Filippi call with 4 people coming on and it's a bit cheaper and we do the season tickets for the whole season as well so it starts on September and it's stories for the winter months as the evening started to closing so we went from September to March to this Friday we're going to have Bronwyn with Michael Harvey I'm pulling down it's and story telling but with music as well well song and the story told in English but there's this song as well so you've got the 2 languages side and a really beautiful story but then next month something completely different and we've got Sheila on old and African-American storyteller and he's on to in Britain for 3 weeks and she's coming for Black History Month and to do look say and then it's all stories about how safe are smuggled from the south to the north lots of personal stories are being handed down which is going to be another totally different completely amazing night. I mean thank you so much for coming on so I mean Douglas storyteller trying to get around the shots will tell some stories great stuff if you to dig in the country to come. Not a new single from Cain love too much on B.B.C. Radio. With the intel to catch up with what's happening on the roads travel news. You need to be. The lightest we've still got some problems if you're travelling on the I 5 to the west of Shrewsbury there are a queue in traffic before the edge and up towards the wood Kuranda bad again reports that there could be an accident along that stretch which is causing those problems looking a little better now than between West and hate on the I $41.00 looks like the queues there of now cleared after the accident there are still some problems that if you're on the I 51 I knew trench road there's a broken down vehicle in a horse box on the West Bank carriage why. Jaques Jones in years and years play on B.B.C. Radio structure so we're looking for the county's most wanted today way are looking for a dancer someone with a medal Yeah any sort of medal and someone who's broken a bone any bone Ideally their own you know not not anyone else's I think we might just have ticked one off of the list because Hannah Cooper is from and I hope this is called Tango Hunter on my right. Now talk talk and I was up from. It's a combination of 2 words so the Spanish which is good for the language if you are inclined tango talk means to touch. But it's also got the part of a French but in that that means a question. Which is for me it's for it's all about the car you executive the dog I am assessed with tangos I absolutely love it how did you get into it where did you find it OK so I found Arjun time tangles fairly late on in life my thirties. I was working as a dog groomer at the time listening very much as your listeners are now the radio and another came on saying would you like to learn Arjun time tango and it's one of those things I've always felt very very compelled to dance but never thought an opportunity would come up so often see this is an opportunity came up. And at the time I was in what I can only describe as a bit of a fizzling relationship and we decided we needed to do things to keep the relationship together. So we went along to the starting time tango class and I absolutely loved it he absolutely losed it. Was a lot of the cop with the relationship but it wouldn't start my new life I love the fact that you ended up having an affair with the tango and group. Didn't jump to happen very quickly what is it about it because what Ching it it's I mean it's dead sexy isn't it frankly. It's always the same you question Welcome to our time good specially if you want to play yes. It's a lovely gown so well the thing that really really keeps me interested in it is 1st rate I have a day job as well when I go to work on the new junk or whatever my opportunity to the heart could not have gotten could close allies it's an incredibly fun down but also quite a complex that you might notice it plays in the local weeks on Strictly Come Dancing or not because it's quite tactical OK to follow up in going with quite a long time outdoors always something more to. The wealthy class and one condo I also consider myself a student in others because well have the brain to spank to Argentina or anywhere to kind of follow it probably know that that is never allowed me to go to when we 1st were left to go but I have danced around the world my stance been phoning Granada in Berlin with hi hi Call me one of us that's out in Congo the US So what we took in that slicked back fabulous dress and you know a lot of red lipstick own icons go a couple ways like that you know well we like but that doesn't help of course on some of them. But we have what we call conditional Congo's and quickly like that just that but there's also a little bit of the Congo underground where we don't know it's a modern music a little bit more flamboyant but I'm a little come along just quibbling However one Call it sounds like one of them has been called What's the strangest thing you can tango to and by that I mean this far removed from traditional tango music in Tango underground which sounds like some sort of fabulous half half sort of sangria if you tap past experience in part right well I understand from. As a school from on a weekly like to conquer rebels are really bizarre that are to Hong Kong I worked in Welcome back to you but I'm not the culture clash unit because reading is not my intent. Because what I think are 200 got a lot of to decide is OK It is a start and I was Arnott's with that positional I'm just so value however we live in a not always on the one thing college younger people into the ground. Keeping with tradition is very important but also to explore more modern ways of dealing with wealth go about to take on some hunger feeding the hungry for additional start we've got quite a lot of the Congress we're going to spend more than top yeah can anyone learn what's the sort of major profile and back crime profile of people who come to your classes OK so it's not about class but when I found out about the film from last week and I come please I will likely also grounds the coolest person please and I don't have a. Client who he is likely why so it's the coldest songs because not only one is a what if appeals to a. Broad spectrum of people age with background Tell me about the pharmacy that you have to take. Those really hard to keep fit so I was I was not in Hong Kong and I was on the phone with her. On a lovely Lady Davenant of long time but hung up I've got a group of friends we have a lotta love. We will we have a bunch of farmers was all got clear but we did a little bit of not designed but we'd really like to learn oftentimes hunger in the wrong. Is you know even close person contact with you can for the community just do a little lesson for us in Miami so out to McAllen they'll all go slow on the half I'm not a clue perfectly obviously that but a lot of delays. I went along on a good one but some quick one left with them which was not cool head on last week good stuff when you go but with 4 years ago I was on the raft was with us today for our part got into my seats and I can imagine because this is all little leg flicks isn't it and tying legs around each other I'm just imagining farmers tripping each other up with any good. All out war. Money I don't know what. I want economy. I can go on all. Open parking lot of all you want but not. Only wrong but whereabouts of the classes for people who are interested. In it so. I don't know that the. Private schools are not. All. Going to class. Talking about Obama. And I'm going to come along I'm pretty and thank you so much for joining me from talking tango teach me Argentine Tango I run trucking So we're looking for someone with a medal and someone who has broken a bone and he says perfectly welcome as well. I'm Commodores easy B.B.C. Radio show.
