I don't like to. SPEND. There you go there I say. You played games and. Got to look out for me. Ross years and years if your over me. On B.B.C. Radio show and our 1st report for the program tonight then polls closed earlier today in a general election in Bangladesh that saw deadly clashes and accusations of vote rigging at least 18 people have been reported killed from several districts the Bangladesh Election Commission told Reuters It had her vote rigging allegations from across the country and would investigate the election is likely to deliver a 3rd straight term for prime minister she has seen or her main rival is serving a jail term for corruption the B.B.C.'s telly MY has more from Dhaka Well those debts about 15 that have been reported from different parts of Bangladesh here even talk of. Direction went off peacefully I mean there was sort of security presence everywhere hundreds of thousands of troops were deployed around the country to try to ensure that this day passes without any violence and they did ensure that didn't talk about it certainly didn't happen in other parts and this is something we've actually seen through the campaign even during the campaign we saw more than a dozen people killed scores being injured but I think the key issue really is you know was it a fair election no just going by what we saw in the run up to the polls as well as today pretty much all over the streets of Tokyo you see posters and flyers from from the from the ruling party the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina party but it's very hard in this city to start any campaign material from the opposition what we saw at polling booths today outside of the boots pretty much every booth we went outside and some we passed you know we were just driving past others but everywhere we saw groups of supporters of Prime Minister to see those party again we couldn't see anyone. From the opposition party being present there we spoke to people there is a well I mean many of them said that you know they were able to cast their ballots they felt that you know it was a free and fair election but there were others we spoke to many of them who didn't really want to come on record didn't want their names to be mentioned or didn't want to speak to us on camera when we were recording but they did tell us that they felt that increasingly Bangladesh is becoming a place where they cannot speak freely where they cannot express freely She also spoke about the government's response to the accusations of vote rigging and intimidation Well 2 days ago I spoke to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and I asked her about these accusations because you know not only today she has actually yet she has not responded on the allegations about the rigging of results but even before that the opposition had said the election commission was biased against them that their candidates had been disqualified that the police was acting as an extension of the ruling party and arbitrarily arresting and detaining their party workers and supporters and I asked Prime Minister has seen about these allegations she said that these allegations were not true that the opposition wasn't able to prove any of them and she also said that because they had lost the support of the public that's why they were making claims like these but it's not you know it's not just the opposition we've had concerns about this election reason even by the U.S. State Department by an agency like Human Rights Watch and when I asked her about that saying you know even Human Rights Watch has said that politically repressive environment is undermining the election she said you know she doesn't think that's true that if you go around the country she said you know she felt that a fair free and fair election was being conducted Well the main opposition alliance in Bangladesh says it is rejecting the results of today's parliamentary election because of reports that the governing Army committed widespread vote rigging Kamala's saying the Alliance leader urged the election commission to cancel what he described as a. Cicle result and demanded a fresh vote under a neutral government the opposition aligned Senate supporters had faced unprecedented levels of violence and intimidation several opposition candidates have boycotted the polls citing threats the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as advisor Gordis be told a news conference 18 people had been killed in clashes between rival party activists we have had it in losses of life which is really affecting really tragic. Of these I'll give you a breakdown both of those of the 18 who had been killed. Members of the of Army. 3 from B. And B. One was civil defense police organization. One from chattel. And one sadly just a person with fought in the crossfire. The Bangladeshi prime minister has advised go ahead Rizvi. On B.B.C. Radio Sheffield. To. Thank. You. Thanks. Ali. OK. Cool it looks. Like. Eastern with me will he the that now some members of our local community are on the pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia it includes our own presenter of the program if the me and her husband Muhammad's old who's one of our regular contributors on Eastern is also there with his wife and he joins us now good evening to you. So this is similar to what is often referred to as the pilgrimage the Hajj but other times of the year is called the. Yes we. Are on our on the 24 hour. And we're live. On the phone about. Complement. And. Relates that of the standard. Number who want. To go a lot more. Water got really so is this your 1st visit the oh man. Is 2nd really but there's the regret after 40 years there is not of what our well our 981 and what I. So what sort of things have changed our. The change is the. Extension to 2 rows of Obamacare so busy mine and also the number of people who are here literally I can see the 8 or busy millions because although the number was I've said on Thursday. It's time to sterile there are a lot of people who are coming out of the mob. And also want to have done is taken such an awesome on the X. Times and they have done in a very very beautiful right under facility is this part of why this is for the people who are coming at the moment is again very radical Now you started your journey last Sunday you've been to Mecca already you currently in Medina So one of the things if you go to sea now. While while water and Muska are. All of us but growth has resulted. Great so we also have visited our choir Fortunately that that's where the local people live with their families and the holidays we want of. One of them politic or speak English so we are difficult to compress time that was very very sort of interesting because that's quite a difference there was. Much Isaac Isaac 35 people may have and. As they were all living entities that are all in addition to the direct way out of is this. Devilry model where as you know. On Mother's last month by I was there my and. It was a privilege to go there in addition to that article I have seen a mosque there undertrained because their insistence of these started it only actually functions during the hard. 3 or 4 days and after that it does not perform but it does give a lot of facilities to the people who cannot walk on who are all so it is again a very very good fertility is without Father Wife iron but at the malls something which is part of smelly when other impressed was. Run to the mosque where it was. One of many years ago probably more money I think is dying and there is water so a lot of the PM that. Mosque is filled with wind is related to my heart that's our problem for. Brussel mom of those on some months along a was the so kind that when he hunted for the. Last call by and we sort of live by what we have a war to. War to crime. And water privileges we had to visit that particular place and you're trying to heart of a group of voters who else is there with you. Is. Busy one of your old colleague. Mr Little Me is my rule. Is one of her children I'm part 2 other people. Were Out of 132 people that and what do you hope to gain from least from this pilgrimage spiritually What do you hope to gain is the little fuel satisfactory. That is what I have gained going there. For farming on but I must say really if you tell me at least it's here me. Inside into a sort of inside in together like a gun and also the knowledge that all. And good and find my religion and that is what it gave me kind of. Give me the proper certain sites where you when you meet people they all act as human beings doctors was impressed we had a lot of congratulations to yourself and your colleagues on the completion of the owner and we look forward to seeing you ally when you return to zap you. Quite well overall no problem setting either way north and south all coping without any delay showing up so. There was a back off audition for 3 to 3 This will be moved out of the way. Thankfully a 616. Business power around about the overall is doing all right across the. Past no issues on the trains and if you would like to update me place call on the. $4056.00 wants you want to it's more about. Broadcasting to south and north and. This is B.B.C. Radio Sheffield. You that's they see boys EASTON And now last week on the program we heard how members of the M. Of the a Muslim Youth Association with feeding the homeless on Christmas Eve and visiting the Children's Hospital in care homes we heard about the plans for that and now they've got more plans on New Year's Day they're going to be picking up litter around the South Yorkshire shot of a from the group he's the Yorkshire regional charities and welfare coordinator. Good evening to you that's a great title that. Events go on Christmas Eve Then on Christmas day they went well there were very very well yeah the last 2 or 3 weeks we've run quite an extensive campaign that's included homeless feeding sessions it's included visits to hospitals and children's wards in particular as well as nursing homes like you mentioned in the last been a really really good success we had a lot of good response and it's just heartwarming to see the difference we can make and why are you doing a little picking on New Year's Day Well let's pick it up think you do every day and it would always make a difference for us it's about you know we been doing the New Year's clean up for many many years now and each year we get more and more involvement from our own members as well as external partners that want to join us as well now I mean in Islam cleanliness is a part of faith so this for us is not really any better way for us to be able to serve our faith and our country and there's no really any better way for us to start the new year you know we want to be positive members of society we want to contribute to the communities that we live in you know we feel like we need to do more every every single year so this forms part of that sort of course drilled into us from a very young age so we're very excited to be able to do it again this year and where will you be doing it so we'll be doing it various locations across South Yorkshire in Sheffield will be looking at in and around the S 4 area and of the city center as well rather I'm they'll be holding a similar session in the city center as well as Doncaster but in Sheffield will be looking at the yes for area and a bit of said city center as well in terms of numbers of people taking part has a lot of people yet so we're hoping to get at least 50 members from our own organization which will be an improvement on last year on top of that we are partnering with some external organizations who while they reach out to us they like what we were doing and they wanted to get involved so our little pick is already we've got a bin bags we've got the hives jackets we're all we're all ready to go and thankfully we're looking forward to having a really really good turnout and get. More people involved and you can start a little picking after the dawn prayers are you going to do some special prayers for New Year's Day Yeah of course we're going to read to her did in the morning congregational in our mosque on the 6 treatments better Lafayette mosque after that we'll be together and will of course have a special prayer to bring in the New Year and you know we'll all together and pray to God that this year brings with us brings with it a lot more blessings that it enables the community to grow stronger in enables us to be able to to be able to do a lot more for the society that we live in will join together have a delicious break 1st and then as I said get the jackets on get the pickers in our hands and head out and try to clean up the community that we live in and make a positive difference as we do every year and you're quite active in these types of activities how many people are involved overall with with your group yeah absolutely a lot of people are involved actually we look at over I mean last year if you look at the statistics we did over 300 community cleanups last year you know aside from that we also planted over 20000 trees we get a lot a lot of people getting involved particularly I mean we cleaned more than 50 town centers last year so numbers are always in the thousands for us and that's always including our own members and external partners and you've got as you've just said a good number of volunteers yourself but how about all the people who might want to join you how can to do that oh absolutely So we'll be meeting at around 8 o'clock in the morning our mosque on the Lafayette mosque on 6 Street so if anybody would like to join us feel free to do so you can also reach us on Twitter at at AM way Yorkshire or at our Q. Yorkshire and all the details are on our Twitter pages we'd love to get more people involved and make a more bigger positive difference well great stuff good to hear the work you're doing and Happy New Year period in advance to.
