Radio cheval news of one of our people and then a Yesterday afternoon Roni a cabinet minister has insisted there must be an honest debate about child abuse after all from m.p. Sarah champion quit the labor front benchers having claimed the country had a problem with British Pakistani men raping white girls the commuter secretary Sajid Javid also suggested that Sarah champion had been forced to go his Our Political Correspondent Chris Mason in her article in The Sun last week Sarah champion said For too long we have ignored the race of these abuses these people are predators and the common denominator is their ethnic heritage when she resigned yesterday she apologized for her extremely poor choice of words but such a job it whose parents were immigrants from Pakistan said we need an honest open debate on child sexual exploitation including racial motivation he added that Jeremy Corbyn was wrong to sack Sarah champion the rather remember he resigned as a shadow minister but Mr Corbyn said she was right to step down students across England Wales and Northern Ireland have been receiving their a level results the percentage of those achieving top grades has risen slightly the 1st in 6 years here in Sheffield there's an organization that helps students make the choices about what's best for them this advice from Nigel ball from Sheffield futures if you've not got the grades you want contact your university or your institution that you put in for maybe say look I'm a little below on this one here is any chance that we can you know maybe I can get it on that level or you know it may well be that he's not an overly subscribe because of the maybe chance of our. Meanwhile New figures show children from poor households in London the twice as likely to go to university compared to poor children in our area in Barnsley only 9 percent on free school meals go to university Darren Powell is a student of Barnsley college I think it's probably just a reflection of people around here to be honest. About that. And school leavers in Sheffield are being offered a chance to experience what it's like to work on a building site whilst many will be heading to university the company in charge of construction of the 1st phase of the retail quarter in the city center is opening up the gates to teenagers interested in having a guided tour there are 2 sessions next Friday the 25th of August a spokesman for construction says there are many high school opportunities for young people. Counter-terror says have registered a huge surge in tip offs after the series of recent attacks calls to dedicated police hotline doubled in the last year to almost $23000.00 with particular spikes after the Westminster London Bridge Finsbury Park and Manchester attacks Stuart is from the security and extremism unit the think tank Policy Exchange she believes the call line really helps if you remember the public and it just seems something especially if there's a sort of immediate stop shop really for anybody with any concerns and I think that's a good thing the challenge that not only the cool hand left side in terms of prioritizing measures come through and making sure that lead to followed up and that the right kind of information gets to the right people when necessary the number of frontline prison officers in England and Wales has risen to its highest level since 2013 Government figures show that more than 650 extra staff are working the service compared with last year but the overall number of officers is well below the peak of 25000 to 2010 Paul Miller a former prison officer with more than 25 years experience said the strain on. The service undermined the relationship between inmates and the people paid to look after them some officers and unit were $400.00 prisoners on the line and by themselves no one asked or you would have at least 4 officers. You are all in. 100 prisoners by yourself or. You haven't got and you don't feel like the prisoners and while they're on holiday abroad the couple in Sheffield had burglars target their home twice 1st the garage was broken into at the house on Broadway then the house itself was breached with laptops jewelry a Breitling watch among the stolen items although they have c.c.t.v. Pole Winter says it's really unsettled his wife who no longer feel safe at home I mean. It is but you just don't feel this house or you or I don't feel there was something I was now I don't feel comfortable with. The blinds. You know you don't feel that you know she didn't feel secure now because she. Knows what she follows from sports news and the year Tim's moved to Huddersfield Town has collapsed the bands are full back had been in talks with the Premier League newcomers about a move to West Yorkshire Paul hacking bottom confirmed this morning that the deal is off that's b.b.c. Radio shuffle news and sport it's exactly 5 minutes past one. Reading in from the northwest to the afternoon things should stay mostly dry but we could just see the showers very much the exception there is a patient. That overnight it'll start dry with temperatures of quickly fall and then as we head through the early hours clouded outbreaks of rain often heavy and accompanied by strong gusty winds but arrived overnight loads of 14 degrees tomorrow where the cloud outbreaks right locally heavy clear then sunshine and blistery showers it's going to feel fairly cool in the strong winds highs about 17 degrees a similar forecast on Saturday but improving through the afternoon Sunday by the opposite dry. But rain and strong winds and I think that's more than in line at. The radiation. Is what we're going to be talking about today we don't usually but today we are going to. People thousands of teenagers across. Contemplating their fights on a level results we're going to get together to show not doing as well as expected isn't the end of the world I want you to tell me about the time you really. Want to be your plans really not. Share your failures with mail. Behind the Museum of under your motivational speaker doesn't believe in all that American life is great. And a brand expert who can tell us all about some of the corporate failures we. Want you to share your failure with me whether it's day. Bad relationship choices or I'm going to have a go all the time you really shouldn't of. Have you. Feel. In one program. The man tried to choose. These explained. We do. Question today for. Something we're going to get together for a big group celebrating our failures on a day when the l.-eb results. In a few a levels will determine your life there's a lot worse still to come after that. Is a business. That. Pretty important part of our introduction. Because there is more of a still speak in the. Back and go you know. So I get that so I made a career over 20 years if. The slant this thing called more of a. Because I think we so used to the Americans in the Celeron white teeth are not saying I'm just interested in practical stuff that work really that's my passion Yes I mean the American. Brainwashing that makes you see the positive in everything I guess yeah we're going to be talking about some tips later and for example used to work with an American guy in a training organization and I knew his life was a mess because I think he's wife was an alcoholic and he's a daughter was on the 2nd divorce and he said this guy how were things and he'd say things are great either you know so I think really also recognizing this things practical things he can do whether it's fairly near a levels or anything else in life I think we should talk about failure because there will be is room to a level students listening to this program thinking well. Let's talk about failure let's talk about failures to start with. Well you know I've got 2 jobs. I'm a professional speaker suddenly get off the loans you know a big conference what's the called If You Knew I don't know what people call the graveyard slaughter because by then they'll have a death by Power Point the ball that I sign on the after. Speaking at a conference in New York. For what's called the end users so their customers about $500.00 people I'm on after lunch I get that the 1st coffee break to the client and the system it Stevenson on the way put in this Can I just tell you we've just found out we've gone. So I don't know if we want the 40 more after lunch you know I mean you know. And you know when you. By the way the other big thing which is a bit like together everybody. Everywhere I go in the room and it's 500 people their customers and people were organization as well and. People expected. Downtimes was meant to be. Backstage an all out right temp 20. 2 m. De Kooning big flop right. And says you know your that we've got all that now and I'm afraid I've just been speaking to the receiver and I'm afraid the. First time. He says you're one of our top sales guy and he said he can't drive. Me. And says I'm going to do. To 50000 pounds in software and he asked me I've got to tell you I haven't a clue. If you want to see this. As well. He even said probably the one. I've got. A. Good thing is out the chance to be my agent before and he said for now no because he's based in London need run to the other. Or whatever. And they came by said it's all right we've been paid. You know. Probably. If they have failed there was all the Norseman to ours general war you know it's not the worst that could happen in fact I think it was shortly after 911. So I think one of the things has to amaze I know you know you cannot walk or more whatever but you know my contrasts you know put things in perspective and that's probably what I said I think now there is a difference between feeling with and actually a decision to try to help people make Yeah yeah I think again when we talk about the tips I think control in how you feel critical today's And I appreciate that if you've got some bad results this morning and specially You know I'm of the generation where you have to go into school and you have to put a brave face on it failed and. So I think you know that. Can fail at something but I think the big message is did you learn from it and also the other thing I. Raise seeing is an opportunity now I'm going to give you a technique for dealing with that because at the moment you probably don't want to do any of those things. Now you want me. a day in which people have. We're discussing the business of failure. To say my failure is saying I'm going to do things and then not like my work I get the needles threaded and everything I think is because I'm trying to fit too much in Karen thank you I'm on the line to Steve McDermott who is a business guru and a motivational speaker from New York he's going to give us some more tips as to how not to fail. To Karen her failure to do things but she just crossed. Can you give a bit of motivation to her I mean with is going to talk about the power of beliefs and now you know what's me limiting beliefs as the language. People say I'll try. Christmas he says to me. That means they're not right such right so I'd change it to I chose not to. Yeah yeah I think so just know it's a language you use a lot to say I wish for example so the say I wish I passed my A-Levels that means you have to do what about say. If so it's just a way of putting away responsible in accountability so. I'm not going to do it Sam going to try and do it you know you know. Luke Skywalker working with a neat. Fighter out that this won't use and he was and Luke Skywalker. He . Either do or do not there is no trial. It was from Yorkshire. B.b.c. Radio chef we are learning how well. It is that. We try and fail better next time give us these 3 tips of yours to make. After well myself be ever after because. First it's called. A friend of mine called. Right so say you got some small and you might be currently. Right now I'm a big forgive me for the. I took it seriously now the week before last absolutely walked Wigan we've never played better they say as it was 2nd in the we played wait for last week we've never played this bad and I wore a my wife Candy not a real name said I can't believe you know we are so miserable by and I got That's the point but I have to decide when I'm going to get over it if I've just come from a coffee with candy not a real name and I was drinking. And I said. Did you know off elder maulers going to do English Sheffield actually and she said I remember lying on the kitchen floor crying in the morning and by that evening I was going to go I'm not going to do something and what she did was gone for 6 months and it changed her life and. So thank goodness she didn't do English. You know. Deadline on it. Then do something 2nd around the. Question of ever fail because I have the mindset you can't fail you can just learn something so I like to say there's no fairly there's only fascinated right so if you think about Mr Spock and captain of the generation. And kept. Getting some by they cling on the bridge and statue like freaking out we get emotional not spot. Called the Spock stare and he just stunned and stroked his chin and got fascinating right so if you call it fascinating because if you don't. Get the right so you need to start to think it's fairly is being Greg I was watching a baby say this morning b.b.c. T.v. Breakfast. If you can figure out who this is right. You know qualifications appeared on stage in Blackpool we can and ball. Appearing on stage took them in black poll. Did Open University when he was 4 say he's now got an m.a. And a Ph d. And he's the. City University. And. You know if young people time seems to be at the premium. You can do these things and you'll discover so much so you know tech some responsibility about the decisions might I've got 3 kids all based. 27 failing. That wonderful thing where I was doing these levels because the way Finley was doing the. Of a generation didn't you stop studiously right. That seemed to them lying on the sofa watching Jeremy. Going to doing the exams lots right. Terrible. This is even before the exam. Because they say because I teach is allowed say so we can find things to blame right there's reasons or excuses so it may be true that the teachers are lousy but that's the hands you've been dealt dealt today or in life how you going to play those counts right and it's not responsibility response ability the ability to respond to what's up and. Choose your response. And also I would say you know I was in the said kids born today kid. In a lot of time possibly 8 different jobs 7 different careers and 2 of those Crees do exist yet right so you Korea's teach it to be the best thing you never write and the final tip is to ask a high quality question so what noise about working so I share the stage with really successful people you know so whether that's a Steve Redgrave all. These people and you ask him and in a moment of crisis to say a levels or any other thing when you've had an experience of failure you fail you Dr test driving test whether it is right most people say you've got somebody in the community 20 best team members in the say. I'm resigning I'm going today and if you're not careful in your head in a powerful voice you go my goodness how we ever going to replace them and question you get a lousy answer right. Mailable whatever whereas if you can refer to me so my favorite question of all time aids is great about this problem. If you take the example of some to resign if you have to be good in where you might go what's great about this problem does sort you know. What scribbles problem Candy no kid went to. Them. And so just to reprieve is that right so. What she said line for getting over it right. You feel so that's going. Well there's no such thing as failure only fascinating. And secondly you know choose your response and then ask a great question you know saw is was what's great about this problem is how can I use this how can they use the space Now let me ask you a question because you've been doing this a while and yeah. Well. I've also heard that you. Played. So I guess she didn't set out to be a broadcaster. But to me. The other thing creates a merger just gave you that statistic the 1st point to made right who knows what might be. Just maybe to conclude your biggest failure either in the theatre or in broadcasted and to no I think I think the failure of my relationship with my kid's mother which meant they didn't have as nice a child. Without. Brill would still say to you after many years right. They're learning from it right that's the case start again have some more kids well no but if you did you might treat kids is what I would say. A lot of people 90 percent of people stuck in the now in the past which is great. Only 10 percent think about the future right and what we're going to do next now that could learn from it is what I would say Steve I think I'm going to have to stop with every I think you're brilliant thank you so much for kicking us off on our program today on a day in which lots of people. With whopping stories about failure. Chris got in touch to say I failed to finish my master's degree because I became a granddad if I had known then what I know now. I would I would say the opposite sex. As it were Nando I'm still single I'm oh oh oh 50th anniversary All right so right Ok. So not too long to wait. Yeah I'm still looking. Right at what would draw a line into that you're looking at a motorbike fairly clear at the moment was the m one coming out of Sheffield the parkway I think looks a lot better now about Paul from Stephen a while ago about an accident he was long since gone and it looks a lot better now nonsense as those cues seem to have cleared up nicely compart waste of your holidays from the south end of Sheffield heading down towards the a 61 junction it's all because of road works and south of Doncaster need to board treated to kill road with still blocked by an overturned lorry isn't it All Saints Church spitting ball lane and blight the road the trains couple of problems we've had today we should be back to normal now don't cast a disc on thought there was a level crossing failure this morning that's been fixed we've got a couple problems on the East Coast Main Line to the south is a signalling problem so trying through Doncaster down to King's Cross could be a 20 minute delay and there's also an incident in the north east adding get either side of Leeds up towards the northeast or find delays in that direction as well and if he was going on out of a one for $2.00 Once he wants more than half an hour when you're a brilliant piece of an early commit to my studio while you were talking he wants to rushes from phone. Lines about road works that might. Obviously I'm going wrong that the news is more interesting perhaps Thanks ever so much in the. B.b.c. Radio show field and hello to me to make. Yes thanks for your cabinet minister has insisted there must be an honest debate about child abuse after the Rodham m.p. Sarah champion quit the labor front bench as having claimed the country had a problem with British Pakistani men raping white girls the coming to Secretary Sajid Javid also suggested that Sarah champion had been. Forced to go students across England Wales and Northern Ireland have been receiving their a level results the percentage of those achieving top grades has risen slightly the 1st increase in 6 years meanwhile new figures show children from poor households in London are twice as likely to go to university compared to poor children in our area for example in Barnsley only 9 percent of children on free school meals go to university counter-terror agencies have registered the huge surge in tip offs after the series of recent attacks calls to dedicated police hotline doubled in the last year to almost $23000.00 with particular spikes after Westminster London Bridge Finsbury Park and Manchester attacks and the b.b.c. Understands the government wants to allow e.u. Citizens to visit the u.k. Without a visa after Briggs that they would need only to seek permission to work study or settle here and the weather we can expect some warm sunshine topped temperatures around 22 Celsius that's a p.c. Radio Sheffield News thanks very much indeed Peter beautiful red if I may say so what are your biggest failure what is your biggest failure you are keen to tell him and give James some advice what about yours but I tried for 3 years trying for 3 years and spent many hundreds of pounds on this particular failure but I just couldn't do it how can it be for 2 or 3 going to a could I could do the right hand and the left hand but not at the same time no matter how hard that. Player playing the piano really. Would love to be able to just sit down in the piano bar and just you know do some Beatles numbers yeah but you know how we are kid when you learn it oh no no it was knows maybe 1015 but it wouldn't just something in a minute you brain the make the work it wouldn't click so I could do that hand and I could do that hand but never at the same time but you can come in here and read the news and do crosswords and every breakfast and all sorts of Yak I can do that but it's just something about about it or else and enter in terms of exams for some reason I got a you know there's a lot I think is my blue peer with. Didn't understand. Thank you for it it's previously the idea. See the way to say this is a loser autistic We've also heard of all the failures we've. Had today about people in the Guardian about the number of people never finished books it's the most difficult but a booklet is that you don't finish maybe you fail to finish a book or fail to watch a film through to the end. Or to play a musical instrument maybe you don't know what Fadia let's celebrate them on a day in which some of the people have failed as well I want to see when you text have used up with Sheffield again you can ring for 2760 and you can get in touch in the usual ways as well John. If I were to ask him they've been failing. In every Radio show after 22 minutes to 2 Emmys studying failure Today's a day on which well without teasing too hard some people laugh failed a lot of results are out and some disappointed weeping people I'm sure I'm straight as well as elsewhere around the country I guess lots of people don't all right but some people have filed a process fail to get what they really wanted to get that would have they think made a difference to what would happen for the rest of their lives what about your failures big and small Would you share them with me we had some very interesting stuff will ready about the love lives of some people that have filed a bill to do about them we've heard about the proof failed to finish books and some famous books that don't get finished people fail to manage to learn to dance or like Peter couldn't play the piano as a grown up his hands wouldn't come to work at the same time I'd like to hear from you about your failure big or small it might be a meal that you made and people were bilious afterwards or it might be a story about how you failed to make enough money at some crucial stage who you failed to keep it or how you failed in your love life who I don't know what are your failures if you share them with me I'll share mine with you. For today where sharing failures will discuss people and their business failures we'll get some more tips about how not to fail and we're also going to go to a museum of failures to find out what they've got there but I'd love to hear from you will 3 with the word cheerful to start it if you're texting audible 14 to 7 to one on if you're on the phone what have you failed that you. Really a flight to earth but you frightened. Paulette said she wanted to tap dancing but a mother wouldn't buy new shoes so she fired. Fairly. Simple. Before the break up and. Up and. Down upon the kids this would be with before just pick you. Up and. Get good luck put us in the play. Sim you. Good sex with. Up the. Same. Game afford I'm. Sure just to. Get some up please it's just. Just. They're not their lives are they but we are talking about failures today we're discussing failures collecting evidence from a museum of failure a little later on in the program and sharing some failed lives including Lenny enduser dimension today did rather well in the long run and somebody else has pointed out the vang Gulf only sold one painting me before he died and even then he died very short have to tell him that one what about you and your failure to share it with me on b.b.c. Radio Sheffield try again fail again fail better next time let's hear from storage of some more failures it's an age of social media there's nothing more that tweeters enjoy than a massive brand of failure walkers Chris remember offered you the chance to add your photos to assure video featuring Gary Lineker map is a river Chris Brand told the people who choose their own picture but know people at it all sorts of photographs and all sorts of people as well didn't but Ok a bit of a failure teller let shoppers personalize the jerk remember this one but instead of people writing I love you or wrote me on it people wrote poop and. Alistair Lockhart is the director for savvy marketing agency he says they're not the only finalists lots and lots of different brands that failed over the years but some of the ones that stick in our minds the closest things are retailers so I mean you know a business like bull with for example who wants absolute bedrock of every high street up and down the country and you know it kind of lost touch really with the way that we were that we were shopping the way that we were buying and you know it's no longer with us and is other retailers more recently joined join the list of of casualties of course b h s closer to the front of our minds so retailers absolutely ones that we're aware of because we just used one such a regular basis but there's also some interesting Brun fight is that they're being . You know everyone everyone's aware of Coca-Cola and in in the in the u.s. You know many years ago they changed the formula is New Coke and everyone was terribly excited about it but you know what people didn't like the taste of New Coke and if you go if you go to the u.s. Now you'll see that Coke Coca-Cola is actually called Coke Classic and that's because they had to go back to the original formula the tried and tested and you know people people fell back in love with the brand again and then you know one of the ones that's kind of more interesting these days I suppose is is you know when we look at things like social media and technology so you've got lots and lots of new businesses that set up a lot of businesses we talk about it on a daily basis the brands that we talk about a daily basis didn't exist 15 or 20 years ago but of course for those ones to get through there's been lots on with us anymore so you know I'm sure a lot of us remember you know signing up for Friends Reunited that's how we were introduced into things like social media Arun you know before Google had the monopoly on on the search engine you know member asked yeah I was in there already . People used to love it back up back in the day and you know what was interesting is it was the simplicity of Google just having that simple logo in the little box people loved it but you know lots and lots of failures have gone through technology to get us to the you know to the to the brands that we that we see is you know massive businesses globally not just in the u.k. And in South Yorkshire and what about those I mean do we do we ourselves feel glad when Brown has failed is it a matter of rejoicing that we've beat number to wow it's depends you know diff diff You know we love some brands and we kind of we love to hate some some brands some and I think you know if there are businesses that just aren't doing a very good job and they have bad experiences with them over the years you know a lot of people say well you know what good good riddance if if that one goes but then there's other businesses you know Woolworths is a classic. Example of you know the reason it alternately was enabled survives is just because we weren't spending enough money in there but when it went you know people felt a lot of nostalgia a lot of people were really quite disappointed to see to see it go and when you know when we receive some of these old brands that have disappeared from the high street a lot of people have got have got positive things to say about them and you know you remember the business Safeway disappeared from from our high streets when Morrisons took them yeah but they're Morrisons are actually looking at bringing back that brand in certain ways so you know there are still good brands the that we love and you know would like to see come back even after they've gone right well that's good news for that for those brands What about yourself and the big mistakes maybe that you know about or indeed that you yourself have done Alister Well I don't know where to start. Good man after obviously this era let's be honest on it well actually very interesting way you know today's the day that a levels have come out here and you know I'll be honest with you my a levels weren't what I was was hoping for and you know to be brutally honest I probably didn't try quite as hard as I wanted to but you know what I learned a lesson from that I actually went and did a year's work experience after I did that before I went to uni learnt you know the realities of the world go around and all about went off to university and you know I tried as hard as I possibly and failed or didn't fail no I guess I got through and I got a decent results and you know I hope I'm kind of doing all right now but we'll have to we should probably ask my wife when he out a matter of life has that gone either been a failure or successful. Good or good on that front of got a fantastic wife and 2 lovely girls so yeah I can be lucky from that point occurred I want you to explain to us Alice take as we talk about fate on the program today when some. Fail there are levels like you did about the concept of failing fast so the idea of failing fast is kind of acknowledge acknowledging that you know sometimes we will fail but not kind of getting ground down that by that and dwelling on a particular but picking yourself up and moving forward so particularly with technology for example you know you go out to Silicon Valley and they actually encourage failure they want people to have new ideas they want them to try them if they fail you move on from it and you try something else and that's very much part of the culture that takes place in Silicon Valley and that's one of the reasons why there's so much innovation innovation that comes out of there you know we've already talked about you know for for all the kind of Facebook's and Twitters and the social media that we see that have survived think of all the ones that have and all the ones you've kind of seen come and go over the years so that kind of idea of testing and learning trying trying something but being able and set up to allow a failure to happen just images to say you've given it a go and you know what when it does work it really works and you know you look at business like Virgin Richard Branson run that business without philosophy you know for all of the success that he's had he's also had a lot of a lot of failures over the years but you know when he has had difficult times he was always one to kind of pick his head back up and try the next the next thing so the answer is if we fail fast we realize we mortgage will blame everybody else and start doing truly else that fails is that the it's not this is actually not about blame blaming someone else it's acknowledging that you know we're human if you if you don't try things you don't succeed you know I'm sure a lot of have heard that from our parents over the years and probably passed on that good advice to to to our own and we didn't listen nor do our own kids. Here Well that's very interesting indeed Alistair Lockhart talking to me about fame. Failing today on the program because some people have failed within a level succeeded we're celebrating our failures the times we've not quite done as well as we thought we did Winston Churchill said at one point that was good quote this from a much early success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm Churchill said that and we've heard from some who back it who says if you try again fail again fail better next time we share with me your failures we've been out into the city center of Sheffield to ask for confessions of failure we're going to have those in a take as well. After. Rather The. You keep it all in. Celebrating failure today on the day the a level we've been out in Sheffield city center asking for your confessions of failure. And yet it. Didn't go to. The chosen. With the warning still married today if stuff goes wrong just because it means your life's going to get. Cecilia area yeah it was at the University of Sheffield. It just didn't work out in the end and just circumstances didn't happen and I kind of regret that stops at that point and carry on become an academic in a different way. Different want to. Be visit saying drawing a line and threat. And then revisit it when I'm ready to like I see in my school it was. Has to feel like some like like do we're all doing I have a tone and like a stage event you supposed to do like to still play. And we'll be also kind of got together and practiced and everything but any money can't my town how come you can't do it and just kind of hanging up to that I can't like Skip tough enough to eat. And then I had to face the music and I got by family history contests with all it's going to what's up there not a kid and a sort of side effect because like I was on a good many of the people in Sheffield talking about their failures we had male notable 14 to 7 mind to well 6 to 9 this is Billie Holiday singing I'll never fail you. Will treat. Me and. Be. There. No. There's no. We never. Never. Read how. 'd good of listening by Bill that. Says Sometimes I'm out of Romania looking the most why he's the most likely to be on ice the m one seems to be fine I want him to lose it don't cost a bypass and $80.00 seems to be behave yourself as well to this problem to the south of the don't pass the us don't fall for the bull trail so it's a killer. The Labor leader Gerry Coburn says Rod remember the Sarah champion was right to resign following comments she made about grooming gangs the shadow minister had written in The Sun newspaper that Britain has a problem with British Pakistani men raping and exploiting white girls she apologized for using what she called an extremely poor choice of words Jeremy Corbyn says it's the crime rather than any one community that must be targeted I don't think you can label the whole community I think what you have to do is label those that perpetrate disgusting and disgraceful crimes against people and they can be from any community they can be white they can be black they can be any community but they have to be dealt with as the crime of what it is boys have achieved more top level grades than girls for the 1st time in 17 years the results out today also showed a slight overall increase in the proportion of a level entries getting top grades for the 1st time in 6 years across England Wales and Northern Ireland 26.3 percent of students were awarded a star or a grades that's up half a percentage point for. Last year here in Sheffield one organization helps students make the choices about what's best for them this advice from Nigel ball from Sheffield futures if your grades are not what you want and what you need is a better time for reflection is also a time for you to maybe act quickly and see what's available in clearing but in fairness we're clearing clearing is not right for everybody because what we don't want to do we see young people set themselves up to fail the people behind Sheffield Olympic legacy park have made a recommendation about who should build the proposed stadium there have been 2 bids one from Sheffield Eagles who hope to make the stadium they're playing home and the rival bed from the Scarborough group led by Sheffield United Skaven McCabe Well it's that 2nd bed which is being recommended to the council who make the final decision which it cable on is the former sports minister will be overseeing the project he says the site will still be a home for the Eagles but the rival bid had the edge it got the strengths at the top thought were important to project forward you just been. Go to you Kate field. Radio Sheffield swapping failures on the program today and we're getting a lot of interesting results through as well I'm going to talk to a man who once upon a jam tried learning the recorder and couldn't do it but the woman who taught him is now a star in the local group and we're going to talk to a bloke. Lives in the Mayfield Valley who's got theories about a new sister well he's got theories about why he was a failure when he was younger I'll take your stories please when were you a failure would you share it with me on the radio. Radio Show. This George Harrison did well. Say. I. Said. Mark. And so. It's. A lose. Lose. Lose. Lose. George Harrison a successful song called Got My Mind Set on you where celebrating failure on the day they love resume results can throw and you see a lot of kids pretending they have done better than this or 9 lives ruined their lives forever we're discussing failure I'm inviting you to join me in confess some of your failings I'm joined by Stephen Stephen Good afternoon to you. Will you tell me please what you filed that I fell missing with play recorder I spent 3 years doing it you know learning how not. Just their new found love listening to music but if I fear sheets of note and work in a foreign language it's just kind of nervous on a page I just can't go. And I still know I just can't play instruments but I know. It's just. Really don't. Ride it's now now can you kind of let me help as a therapist even if there is there anything. Why would you not be able to run your fingers down a recorder and blow the same time seem to be terrorised by. The Congo scene to where you play on the recorder and I just don't get it it's just there's no connection. I can do nothing I can. Do wiring you know. And could you I mean yeah. Could you spent 3 years at it was the point at which someone said don't bother or you could go inside and I would really think it's a long time ago. And now. We're moving on to a different sort yeah and over 2 years later you're outing yourself on the radio in a way which will make you feel better tonight I think when people come in last Yeah he's a bloke who could play the recorder. Is it possible that she wasn't very good now do you know things like I don't know and I never. Come round and we have to remember you oh yes can she explain how poor you are well and you. 'd think. You know I'm just I'm not well I'm not on the. Side of it thing you know playing it well Steve thank you for outing yourself on the radio thank you very much indeed so if there's a man who can play a recorder and can't sing in Jonesville it'll be staved and thank you Stephen he's b.b.c. Radio show where we are celebrating failures on the day that some people have done as well or that a levels or they thought that. We're going to we're talking about failure and if you ring me you can tell me yours and feel better 1427 and it will 6 to eliminate one to double for you starting with Sheffield there is a museum that is dedicated to failure he's called the Museum of failure from the hoof and it's in suite no expense bed here is some we will West who is the curator and museum director Samuel funk you once in the museum. The museum is a collection of innovation failures so it a lot of consumer product technology food item medical interment there were new and exciting when they were launched but they just didn't turn out expected failed Can you hear just some examples easy different product everything we have failed Google one of those. Really really found the high tech technology that was launched and then Google just didn't quite figure out that people would react negatively to the . I did I read recently they're going to relaunch it maybe they've learned something from the failure. Create your column get your critics Yeah Ok that are made with a calorie free which you know you won't get if you eat the crit but you will get knocked of diarrhea. And I mean a thing in between so it's a great action of innovation failure is it true that the toothpaste company Colgate once tried to sell t.v. Dinners. Well according to the brand literature in the eighty's Colgate launched a line of frozen dinners. Since the media attention to the museum Colgate is contacting me and they have no recollection of this product right. So I'm not quite sure whether it's an urban legend in the brand field or whether it's true Colgate has not provided any evidence that it's not true he sounds wonderful just because that's exactly a smart idea somebody who heard somebody to get Colgate selling t.v. Dinners if they did or didn't and not realize how daft it was that surely now makes I mean most of the items at the museum are mean there is humor and failure obviously but I mean the message is that we need to accept failure to progress so like your previous guest can give them with even try to learn to play a musical instrument I mean without accepting the fact that he's going to fail you know 1000 times no progress can be made I mean the message of the news and weather even though there is some humor involved it's still a message of any kind of progress we want you know personal in our own lives as individuals or even in the corporate level we need to embrace failure Ok we'll do that where did the idea from the museum come from is it your idea. It's my idea it actually came after a visit to another museum called the Museum of Broken relationship which is just a wonderful idea. And I've been doing research and innovation and then a mission field for a number of years and there's always felt like people talk about failure but there's a big leap between talking about failure and importance of failure and actually as your listeners are doing admitting to failure and be willing to discuss your own failure where did you find the items in your collection then the museum a failure. Everywhere there's not a single place I haven't looked or found item now with the attention globally I get donations. So. Strange things interesting things from all around the world that come in I mean that's the best kind of items at the Museum Of course the ones that don't. Want your own personal favorite of the I thought of I thought of your. When you ask your listeners to call in with their own failures we at the museum we have a failure confession booth where. I can write on a piece of paper there are. Things failures and they're up on the wall for the whole world to see. A great body and look at the things that they put up on the walls them will interpret things are different ways anything for example not things that are an instrument or somebody complained that they couldn't find a parking lot on their way to the museum to. Somebody sale years then somebody wrote my 1st marriage. And there's everything in between it's fun that people can see and relate to failure in their own ways yeah I mean I know just want to the things on the list for your museum of flavor including Google Glass which you mentioned including the big her and Holly. The interesting thing is not you know maybe specifically those vendors but the fact that these huge multinational brand with all their reason all failed when they try new things I think it's quite you know some way the deliberating and inspiring for us as individuals like hey if it's big can Google and Apple if they can you know fail despite all their resources and competence is then and we can also say we should be less harsh on ourselves yet we fail when we're trying something new do you feel that we're talking mom in in Sheffield in England but you're in Sweden awfully nice people themselves good at him bracing failure is there a difference between a races nationalities when it comes to play here. I wouldn't say there's just my personal take the working with different organization I wouldn't say there's that much of a difference between the British and the Swedish but there's a bigger difference both and can we can both have a laugh at our failures and sort of have a sort of distance ourselves from it but I think there's a bigger difference being the British and Swedish and the sort of. German Italian French and the more conservative conventional company there have a very difficult time. I think the British and the I would say they're about good at sort of being able to admit and we certainly did that today on the program over so grateful we've taught some you know can you tell me whether the Museum of failure is a failure. Again how you got me a week ago I wouldn't know when you're going to tell you that you think that but right now I will be future of the Museum of failure is quite Yeah we haven't quite found a new facility for the book to move into so you know we get there we'll know when the museum a failure to failure or not well you are so open and honest to add my voice and bring it to Sheffield we've got a little cultural quarter down here we love a museum will. Love it but me oh all right there we are thanking the thank you ever so much for sharing with us today the Museum of failure teaching on the edge of failure extraordinary or maybe no certainly great form what about you folks what would you put in the museum of failure he's got Google Glass you mentioned big for which I don't remember Sony. Or indeed upon the Kodak digital camera which was a bit of a disaster. Hidden from you and I'd like to sue more about you failures it might be your failure to learn the recorder it might be whatever but I'd like to hear it will 3 when you text 021427621 it's 90 minutes past 2 and we're talking about failures on the day well some people file their own whom. I thought I want to but want a little bit off the on exam I have a fail at a level general paper. Family. Will you share with have you failed her. Lol lol. Lol. My mother. Loved my. Time. program without a call from child saying the closing of the Hayley station in the closing you would add to nil liver failures here and your marriage makes a man no no hell no revenues which you know we share with a bunch of Faiza Yes it's a bit to sweet it's a success I'm 5 and if instead of I'm not has been insists on sending our only son every 3 daughters and long someday only son to very expensive public school. Thinking he would at least come out as prime minister. You know toast just really deluded I'm right and they was proved wrong because the teacher said he's a very popular boy will love him with a puppet of his staff school mates and everybody but he's a daydream a yes a yes no application to study you know that stupid so I thought my eyes would be prepared to 15 really bullied my son I'm sorry say this into staying on it but it's fun so must some roach in one day and I said he was so bright he wrote trees down and said The more I study the more I should know the less us that the less I should know but the fact is with me the Mole I study the less I know so is up to is why I know nothing sorry dad and he went to the headmaster and left how extraordinary kid Well I know so it's very very brave of him but that tell you bitches my husband blame me he said I had failed them. Because I accepted what you were all up to several years not. Very carefully and without any recrimination a big problem. But that I would fight you know I got the fuck 1st oh yes but that the out because. Of that but. Coming up to. My own late in going to you need today yeah. Yeah I see ghosting Ike But yeah my kids when that come up. With a light you know well I'm ever survive but I'm glad for the story I'm Congratulations to her from from me and from everybody listening I guess and thanks for the story man that was brilliant We're asking for failure has brought us a failure and a success and I guess the kids that the sun set was a success story and then because he had the courage to say that's it and he won't tax peace redish f.l. Marriage story not quite too late for us we are discussing on the program today our failures when your plan didn't go quite according to plan it might be something to do with school it might be something to do with I dunno something like we've been hearing about a museum of failure maybe you invented something that no one wanted to buy or you tried to play the whistle on you couldn't even after spending 3 years trying to do so what have you failed that we shared it with us on b.b.c. Radio Sheffield 25 minutes past 2 running b.b.c. Radio be able. To be. 73 spaces in Sheffield I think you saw one of the greenest cities in Europe so there's loads of us to go out and enjoy I really like. The radio. This. Poll. Let's. Blame. The gloves. Sheffield a search on the floor for Bruno Mars and Co It's 29 minutes past 2 or very nearly as we've been talking about failures during the program today he's not quite to late if you want to share your faith a little might be huge it might be something you think if only I'd done it differently or it might be something you think well actually on balance it worked out Ok In the end your failure might be an invention like Google Glass or Sony actual one of those that failed and whatever it might be. Here's a story of a man who's been working at the. Theater and he's about to stop to go but Universe to bring the story to tell about the Civic and he's going to join us to discuss things with Louis Hepworth will be with me with a story of his life so far after half past. Thank you Ronnie at the moment roads mostly Ok well it's the motorways look clear at the moment we still have least one problem though south of don't cast a just House side up. With on a to kill road so close lorry overturned little while ago nearly All Saints Church in that still blocking the road. And blimey the road and fuse allays south of the center of Sheffield bottom part way down to the a 61 and also the exit if you want to approach as well Samantha head back and partway into that roundabout the Chesterfield road south heavy where we have road works actually a problem on the most white the m one south the entries adjoining the motorway from Markham Vale 29 a motorbike just before he gets to Chesterfield there's a broken down lorry on the slip road he found that because he's any keys and feels going on Kenya date is always on the line for 2.61 c one more in half an hour. E.c. Radiation fields for the b.b.c. Redish awful news headlines help us take them to how the British cabinet minister. Has insisted there must be an honest debate about child abuse after Rotheram and Sara champion quit the labor from bench having claim the country had a problem with British Pakistani men raping white girls the community secretary Javid also suggested that Sarah champion have been forced to carry their warnings that some students across the collect their a level results today some of our poorest students are being left behind New figures show that a child from a poor household in London is twice as likely to go to university compared to a poor child in Yorkshire in Panteley only 9 percent of children on free school meals Katie University the number of front line prison offices in England and Wales has risen to its highest level since 2013 Government figures show a more than 650 extra staff working in the service compared with last year but the overall number of offices is well below the peak of 25000 in 20 sees me and Donald Trump has said a suggestion that he drew a moral equivalence between neo nazis and protesters demonstrating against them was a disgusting lie the president has been roundly criticized for saying both sides were to blame for violence last weekend in Virginia the weather mostly dry and sunny afternoon a few showers might arrive later especially this evening feeling warm this afternoon highs of 22 degrees Celsius Yes thank you very much indeed watch the big failure of your life well it felt like a terrible failure at the time I failed to get into Bristol University which it was my 1st choice I got the equivalent in points I think but not the exact grades that they had wanted so I ended up coming to Sheffield University which of course not changed my life for the hugely rever but I so want to go to Bristol mainly because I've gone to visit my prof there and really liked all the parties and life and all the rest but had I not come north. My life would article imagine how different my life. Consolation from that yes sometimes failure is very good thing he says try again fail better yes. Look it was. Never mind everyone's a winner. In the same thing. Hot chocolate everyone's a winner I should say so on b.b.c. Radio Sheffield certainly we're talking about failure today and a marvelous messages come from Peter which follows. I needed to reroute an aerial cable so I decided to remove a floorboard to do so using a circular saw I set the depth of the saw to what I wrongly assumed as the thickness of the floorboard promptly cooked through a radiator pie after flooding the dining room to the ceiling I managed to repair that leak too though well while cutting a channel to the plaster to a live cable which went with a rather large flush and banged and to add insult to my injury my wife who at that time sold mortgages at a bank used me as an example as to why you need home insurance Thank you thanks for the story Mary survived b.b.c. Sheffield Betty we've been talking about failure bearing all today is a young man who's cheated death not once but twice he's Louis Hepworth he's just completed a placement year at the Civic in bonds Lee things haven't always been as rosy as that at one point is moment to come to say have final goodbyes to him they didn't think he was going to live he's here now full of beans and I'm going to say good afternoon to you Louis running very good thanks Will you have a go at the 10 silly questions they always start this interview and catch people out yeah that's completely foreign to you sure. You like dogs or cats dogs why should favorites football. Or rain. What you haven't for tea tonight probably not nothing I'm going after one should leave here today the 1st thing you will do is. Drive back and then got with my friends what's the last. You watched on the i Player. I didn't remember the right or left handed right have you ever feel that anything fatal program ever failed at anything with the words. Yeah. That's not a failure of mind and English has always been a weakness you know I mean it's not a failure but it's something that I'm always working was that I was the most precious thing in your wardrobe. Wardrobe. Clothes was just going to be. The worst thing about Bonds live was going to cut him off and was nothing one of the. Good thank you the trick question some of us wish we could do an extremely well if I may say so holy it 21 was you feel like to be 21 it feels good good I'm looking forward to the things that are common in life the time next for you Well I mean now I'm in the last year of university and then after that I'm looking for a full time role in marketing. The last year you spent been spent. How did. Well that came about because someone a 4 year sandwich costs Sheffield Hallam University so I've done 2 years. I had applied for placement already at a placement saw to it but you know yourself Lewis and the university had been for an interview were a credit union got the job I think confirmed and the university itself didn't contact me until the day before when I had me start there confirming that I couldn't start. This was due to them not having the correct information they contacted lot of the business saying that is there a girl working here called Louise Oh wow. They were miss me Miss McCune care she between the university. Obviously the employer but I was left at a standstill he's really funny because we spent the day talking about failures today and it's often people. And the thing you think that's blown it. Actually turns out to be all the good yeah that's what that's what my opinion is like no I was really stuck because I was that was that was for 800000 pound. You know I mean on the formidable money anywhere unlike the placement civic obviously volunteer like of brick where they may report for the goes to the university never finish said it I feel at a time of the civics really made me grow No probably because I would never want to work for the weights that everybody was on the guy I think. Gets paid because I know are out there where can the level of commitment put in that was my decision and that was wrong the star I told everybody now in our sport said to the do want to go back and we'll show you when you went to work the. We're disappointed you think one of my doing here or there wasn't initially I wasn't I wasn't too pleased because. I'm not impaired all my other friends you know I mean but then once I got stuck in a thaw trying to bash you know I mean because I'm coming every day for my own benefit so I want to learn as much as possible put as much work is where working as possible so that I can get some for now of it when you learn it in your background to do with Theater know nuffin all I've ever been to the Civic with no I wasn't aware of the city I mean I've lived in bonds they all me 21 years I wasn't aware of the Civic. Who do you think when you go in there. Might like this is what I mean my personal opinion I would never gone gone to the theater I'm not sure many people would and in bonds as well bought by Honestly my opinion as change I mean like to be foster. The comedy shows I mean they're. Really you know didn't put you off in all even even that I mean that's one I mean that's the things that I've enjoyed Yeah I mean one of these you know the super powerful comedy yeah I mean I've seen theater. Personally I never thought that was something that I'd be interested in and why but I really like the program or. The work that it does with some things I think about the theater and the connect project that's happening that is really really something a. Book about I do want to go back because it's in my own town of bonds where the project that they're working on I want to help them achieve that you've finished as it were this year that you've done with them but Universe to the degree yeah I am still working at the. End of the operations team but like I said I'm hoping to go back as like something to do with schools working with alongside schools b.b.c. Radio show feel talking to. The story in the theatre is a bit of a surprise What's the best thing you see. Well I think it's down to my personal preference of me liking comedy but I'm really looking forward to it and him when Camino I love working we now also want to work mean else and I mean I spoke to him and things like that but it changed my mind as a sad about all the things I would I would have never even gone but now it's changing made our perception of what's how you managed to get in rather than what do billing and more the number of schools that are involved with it and. How did you do. That well what I did I got my own personal book. So that. I contact with the schools I bring them had organized explain the offer so it was our life's book now I sold the show and to them which really took place but for school was interested I could tell straight away so I'd set to him which I wasn't lying in anyway we were the Christmas show with the lords of interest so I'd say. The shows are selling out we need an answer by Wednesday confirm that it's fine for me to ring the school but Wednesday and then even if it's no you know I mean then you've got an answer and then the school hasn't missed out because I mean the offers are I agree the amazing you know I mean what the school got to get. There for the over taking place in February the Civic. Before a next Christmas and also this will be in February what school if schools are interested in before 8 pounds 50 he performs within the school. To the civic another show so they get to shows all teachers come for free travel is included and that's what. It is it's one of them I mean a lot that's why the office sells itself I mean it's like the Civic people just don't realize the work and commitment that we put in and people are not receiving the benefits and you know really what they offer. To this in the studio talking about things do you take your friends to the viewer polls Yeah well I have to I have to consume I'm a fan just like their opinion is the same of mine. The will not. Some things I wanted to see that because it's a name. I've tried. Some sure a lot when I work in the marketing team we know if he's hard to get engagement. Since I've been there seen it grow and it's really this season's doing really well what you want to hear in the world music we asked the question of the journey one piece of music you can hear for the rest of your life what was going to. Pick this song because. I know that the team really. Less. Because they can sing it there. Are literally. Live. Live. Live. Live. Live. Live. Live. Live. Well. He's 21 been very involved in the theater. He's currently a student show for how I'm about to go but freezer. She left. To spend the rest of his life forcing people to go to the theater and that once again. I want to turn the subject completely around true you've nearly done several times well I wouldn't say several times but I am clumsy like while I've been at the Civic have broken. Yeah I mean I've got to have time off book when I was out there have been some leaflets I could tell me I open. The the main thing without being really ill is when I was in a coma before. It was during the 1st year of my colleagues to go what happened while I was be I was taken to the hospital with pneumonia. And then I was I was put to put to sleep in an induced coma and this is on the are being told by me moment things I don't really know what happened but. I don't think that may fight as was treated properly while I was in the course I was being treated for the pneumonia. And develop this red red disease that you can only get when you fight is called This activation syndrome. The explanation that I know it's lot. To do with the immune system and blood cells eats all your body and why from my knowledge I know. That so I mean I am really grateful for both new mom books I would thank them for book a life being saved like there's been a case study I know the last time I went to visit doctor she said that they wanted to go to lead somewhere because they wanted to test my blood to find out why or why I survived I should be alive. You don't have a memory If you go to memory of being nearly dead Well yeah can remember. Fell asleep in bands I woke up in Sheffield I can remember the blues. Just things because we're intensive care that you never. Even move beyond that to learn to walk again but I can just remember a lot being cleaned and like my mom remembers this to this day a lot you're going to Louis Louis Louis and I were just like because I was really tired so tired myself but I can remember looking up and I'm just like when I pull the fair and. Obviously been asleep for 2 months to moan Yeah yeah. And then after that I can remember the name and then I think it was like a day enough just after I started where. Did you lose your memory in the procedures I didn't know what noone told me the tribe where commute from the Coleman things like should I go bad and got no regulation of the. Yeah the 3 times during the night to say goodbye because. I think that this disease the know the didn't know much about it that you have no memory of. 3 time here no no no recollection. Anything And how did you come through it went right eventually. Contacting Dr Tattersall both I'm really thankful for my new modern to contact a doctor just so. I mean no disrespect to you out with a death you know I mean they didn't have a clue what was. Our Well I didn't know they seem to. Been speaking about him I'm sad that I've got all the time it's an illness Now that doesn't go so if I get a simple cold also faint then it can develop into pneumonia and then I can get ill again and so I have. Taken steroids myself really. Make me really far. When I was younger. I used to Atticus are you. That's what I have to do with the cold. Pneumonia after that again have you here and has the condition been a lifelong one fighter since or. Just with oh people. When I 1st. Initially. Thought I was joking because one morning. With this arm with this leg and you know I mean a kid when you say things like that. You're of the school. Obviously I. Started to realize things like. Let me a little. Cry and so I took it it took some time for it to die and now I mean paying constantly I'm just even people the Civic just know I can when I split up and. You know I mean. A lot to me now I'm going to be obvious. I have me a project of steroids for quite recently and I know a lie. Ready to get done and things again if you imagine if you do the rest of your 21. 60 you we're going to do. What you end up having to end up having Well I'm proud of the town that of course and I don't think that many people is not that good of a reputation you know I mean so I want to I want to achieve something for bands and I think that this is the civics going in the right direction so for me personally like I said I feel that. Ellen's like Project of the connect even like the 5000000 pound so that it can be knocked into one and the. Achieve and then the feeling that. Something from your. Story with us. Been a pleasure I salute with not sure what follows up with who's my guest today is a b.b.c. Radio show police 5 minutes to 3. In a field not so far away expectations are sky high. And in just a few moments the drama will unfold Thank you Captain. But only when the conditions only read I just. Try making a parachute. Learn something new every day visit b.b.c. . Slash terrific scientific. Let me. Let me. Ask you. Let's. Let. Let let let. 2 let. Let. Excuse. Be moved on already it looks like we got some problems again not. Way but in such. Close currently the final section the road again is blocked from the top to the golf club heading down to the m one of the motorway it. Down to the amount to. Be blocked and plenty of a huge traffic in the area as always keep me updated He calls in the traffic so.
