Sheffield. B.b.c. Radio Sheffield go thank you very much Lisa for that where the rope day and was celebrating lighthouses on the show today it is nothing to do with the fact that the weather is all for and it's to do with the fact that it was like towns day yesterday yesterday or a little bit late to the policy and we always about one look as you can get here in South Yorkshire and North Darbyshire but we have found a local links to all sorts of lighthouses including one in Sheffield I kid to note you must stay with me and you'll find out exactly where that is they came ashes b.b.c. Radio Shack. And bearing all is Charlotte all got from Sheffield amongst other things many of things are going to be finding out about Charlotte's. Finding out how she overcame depression after living with it for $23.00. Seems only appropriate to play this song doesn't it it's the Lighthouse Family and. Want to. Live to hear from me today. Now to the sea. It's pitch black you're not seeing and the only sound you can hear is the crashing waves because you feel a little bit emotional imagine the relief you might feel from seeing a line in the distance a light telling you that you know from that. That's been the job of lighthouses throughout history and to mark that special miss they even get that oen day lighthouse day which falls on the 6 Now we always say late to the party a couple of days that the party. August the 7th I'm just being told in my my ear away from my script. But as luck as we all here in South Sheffield South Yorkshire and north we couldn't resist the challenge of finding a local links to like houses and believe it or not we have found one in Sheffield you'll have to stay ching for that but I also want your lighthouse stories if you've ever visited any Have you ever seen one abroad or anything like that. Going down the metaphorical route who would you say is the link house in your life the Paris in this pop spin that the dark times or maybe it's a place a place that you visit when you feel a little bit live a little bit down in the dumps What do you like towns place we'd love to hear from here so do 14279 double 6 double 9. I know you can text is 81 the 3 double 3 starting your message with the word Sheffield Now Sean is from Sheffield but grew up in Plymouth where she could see a lighthouse from have bedroom window and she joins me right now shown and thank you for coming into the studio so we're obviously you know we're talking about light houses and this is a very So this special thing in your life isn't it and some people might think what a White House how could it be you know sort of special but you know describe. To me the one that you saw growing up yes there the one that I saw growing up was called Smeaton's tower and it's just on the coast of Plymouth just on the land it's not in operation anymore but it's just this iconic picture that is found everywhere across Plymouth and even when you see it on the t.v. You just get memories of home and so it's this 70 feet tall structure that stands at looking out across the Sound and is red and white stripes like the barbershop it's absolutely love it exactly what you want to see isn't it yeah I mean I always think you know. I was talking to our producer about this earlier is one of you mentioned lighthouses I go back to my childhood in the t.v. Show going around the twist remember that it was a it was a it was quite some time and probably a bit too old for Charlotte but yes it does exactly the iconic sort of vision that you want for it and there's a reason why it's called means terrorism and not sexually related back to you to hear yes there it was actually designed by a guy called John Smeaton it was the 3rd Light House apparently built for that is stone rocks which is of quite dangerous part just southwest of Plymouth and one had I think been destroyed in a storm one was bent down by fire and so John Smeaton a Yorkshire man was brought in to design the that lighthouse to be on those rocks So yes from your designed this down for the southwest coast that only some Yorkshire connection there somewhere isn't that have you ever been inside this lighthouse obviously growing up in a sort of big. No I couldn't because I mean the times it's now I'm more of a museum that you can go up there are 93 steps up to the. Yes it's quite a climb which we did of the child and was seemed a lot higher I don't imagine. Still very tall but yes we did used to climb up off and and have a look in the view from the top is just gorgeous but what you see inside as well is just so eye opening as to how the lighthouse keeper would have lived Absolutely that is the old floor to the isn't it because I didn't realize until some doing some research obviously only in those days how well the light houses are when they go back to the Egyptian times you know that it was them that invented it in the 1st place so again how long was the one sitting the how long was that one been there so it was out at sea from 759-2877 cry and then apparently the rocks underneath it became quite unstable so they decided that they needed another lighthouse they built another one next to it and they dismantled this one but to pay homage to John Smeaton they moved the top $2.00 thirds of it onto the Plymouth coastline so it's bad now as this memorial to John Smeaton and now this part of just the Plymouth coastline and something that anyone from Plymouth would record this is something that is real when you see like you say when you see it on the t.v. Or you see them pictures or whatever does it bring back it brings lots of smiles and and zones and all kinds of things from a child who has all of the senses the sounds of the. And yes the smell of the sea and everything and I believe we can get market in it now because yeah you can actually get married up at the top in the Lambton very it would be a very small occasion and I had a look at it and you can only have 9 people and that's including the registrar and the witness and things like that so it would be a very intimate gathering but the view from the top would be I think probably what do you know is it something that you would consider considering you know something you grew up with I think I have to make a family I mean your problem is that I was trying to get married. You know obviously have to do if you try. Maybe. That's the way around it and that's the way around it so was he you know when you saw this lighthouse was it something that was sort of comforting to you you know as you saw this for me but I mean how old were you when he was looking at this lighthouse from your bedroom window probably from when I was about 10 I was in that dream until I was 18 and you know that city right so you sort of really important is a lot how did you find it quite comforting and when these were secure Yeah and just this something that just reminds you of the sea I. Just love the seaside and everything about it and the lighthouse is just such a big part of it so you have to look out and to see and and to go home now and to visit my parents and see the lighthouse which does bring back so many memories and and just does make you think about what it means to be by the sea that sense that you get and the idea of just just being free but also feeling really safe and secure as well and I think that's something that White House is really bringing that idea of the light in the dark Yes And for me that's partly wrapped around my faith and for me that houses are linked to that as well and I did actually God is in is the light in the dark place but but yeah just. A matter of what you what connotation to wrap around it for many people is such a secure and comforting thing surely you mean the garbage. Nation of that that was absolutely lovely I would show it from regionally from Plymouth and we see grow with the lighthouse from her bedroom window and that is what we're talking about today it's about lighthouses if you have a visit today and if you could the same kind of a vision is what Charlotte has here if you've got any memories you know brings it back for you or maybe you found your lighthouse moment we would love to hear from Michelle and we thank you so much for joining us. Do you get in touch plays love to hear from you this afternoon of 14276 temple. Are. You. I choose the par. With. Me. Oh. You say. Oh it's sounding. A. Broke. It. Just give me a reason penguin a was. Here on b.b.c. Radio Shack field it's baccy in for a. 22 minutes past one on this very pleasant day I have to say how do you feel 8 and from listening to Lisa it's not going to be that nice tomorrow if you're heading towards the ash i wish i that never make sure you take you make sure you take your own relish because you stand it isn't it whenever there's a shy. Well there's a festival there something like that it should sit down with rain but you know what Thursday it's going to be fine really there's a lot of ads that you go into on the Thursday where you can enjoy the nice weather we're talking about unlike houses he had to say in the shack because yesterday was national light towns day I wanted to celebrate it wanting to hear your lighthouse stories that can be anything we can be looking for you stories of lighthouses that you visited or seen or maybe you've had a lighthouse my way you've gone someone you've just oh I feel so much better being here or you maybe you have a person like your very own life house we'd love to hear from me and Kevin in Chapeltown joins me now I have to name Kevin. I'm very well thank you my lovely now you're recommending a lighthouse to go and see on change you know St Mary's like Ok with me being in Newcastle beautiful Now I need to confess I've never actually been to Italy but I keep meaning to go there every time a day is one of those things where it's not really it took me right Amanda to stay in the arcades or something different so wanted why do you recommend this lighthouse a much I mean say it's. Just a lovely area it's plain to see there's a gold course on it. It's called a Spanish you do it you needn't arcade and generally it's just a lovely area just a beautiful nice tranquil place is that what it is do you find yourselves out of going there Kevin Now if you get a 7 Ill bet with something or maybe a little bit stressed in life is that so my way you would had. Definitely yeah if you had that many lighthouse moments yourself so there's. No specifically. Light bulb moment now I'm just a good place. Tell you what Kevin next time you go we make His I've got a little baby and I'm in need of a lighthouse moment I can assure you or you're going to come with you while you are very very kind my friend Reisa stay on the fire I would say if he tells you who get this date lined up for I Kevin thank you very much. Kevin from Chapeltown recommending I have you want to go and have a look at me I want something tranquil and beautiful to come and see the the lighthouse. Absolutely beautiful and of course you had to hear that Kevin is going to take 27. Years since pretty sure came to an end after months of political deadlock agreed to divide the country into. This weekend we'll be looking. For both India. From Sheffield city center throughout Monday on Tuesday speaking to people from both communities as well as covering the celebrations here how the politician was marred by turmoil following the birth of the 2 nations. They are. 70 years on. This Sunday evening. Radio Sheffield thank you very much to pull for getting in touch is back here on b.b.c. Radio Sheffield infrared you were talking about lighthouses and Paul says If you stop on a buy in Scarborough Harbor which I have many times the toilets and the showers and now in the lighthouse we're going to talk to someone very late it was late about the lighthouses and if they are still functional at the moment doesn't seem to any of them actually many other things being useful as poles just said that to be talking to a bit of a lighthouse expert in just a. And I can make you feel good see. A bounce. In Sheffield. And a bit of heavy traffic recovery work following him. Around the junction. In an express 20 minutes between Sheffield. And Stockport all g. To an operational incidents if you spot a problem called the line a notable 14561212 more and half an hour. Really oh she'll feel. It's the latest headlines just after 130 with a South Yorkshire police officer sacked from the force for filming people having sex from the police helicopter has been jailed for a year 51 year old Adrian Podmore from Western Rodham admitted misconduct in public office the Department of Health has insisted that there are enough midwives after new figures suggested that more than 40 percent of maternity wards in England closed their doors to expect mothers at least once last year the survey of nearly 100 trust by the Labor party found the most common reasons given were shortages of staff or beds Darcus the now has its own you're a star train an engine cab from one of the trains has been donated to the National College for high speed rail to help students understand more about the trains and track ahead of the 2nd phase of high speed rail across the country h s 2 and today's a big day for sport in Sheffield 20000 people are expected at Bramall Lane tonight for the opening ceremony of the Special Olympics will be there live later this afternoon and whether fingers crossed for the opening ceremony but cloudy and wet the rain will turn more showery at times highs not getting above 15 Celsius that's p.c. Radio Sheffield news. In just a moment we are going to be finding out about this lighthouse that is in Sheffield I kid you not I wouldn't lie you will find out exactly where it is after this. Guy. Thank. He can't be said business of Johnny Cash and I can see clearly now. P.v.c. Radiation field it's back you measures in for a rainy hike be doing all right we're talking lights houses on the shade today and I've been promising you that we'll hear more about one in Sheffield definitely one in Sheffield but it is time to come clean it's not the one in Sheffield South Yorkshire England but the one on the Sheffield island off the coast of Norway in Connecticut in America now Mark Schlegel is a volunteer with the North Sea port Association which owns Sheffield island my houses and runs the ferry chips that and he joins is right now live from Connecticut Good afternoon Marc you know how are you know I'm sorry well and he's now is the afternoon is it it's morning where you are right now. Yes it's about 830 this morning in America well thank you very much fair getting up and coming on the radio here with us in Sheffield in England so do you know about the island's name how did it become to be called Sheffield Island. It's generally been called after its owner originally called the walking island it's also called White Island the Long Island Long Island Smith dial and then eventually Captain Robert Sheffield purchased for. You didn't storming in advance we sold it to its own new all. Right so it literally is named after someone with the same name Sheffield. Correct fantastic and we. Have a no the chef and we have a natural place called Sheffield in Southfield. I have heard of it yes I have and what do you what had you had about it Oh it's very famous for its knives and it's still. A lot of people make some of the find it still in or out is always nice say the good things Mo that's what it was like to hit so this is my house then that the lighthouse in Sheffield in Connecticut and described to me what does it look like it's a stone revival what they called mid-Victorian revival built of stone with a cast iron tower on the Talk of the range approximately 48 feet above sea level. Like a 10 room house with a light with a light tower on the top of the I 10. I mean no one lives there now do they now they don't not on a full time basis it's now on the registry of New Start places here in the United States so it's not actually physically occupied anymore it's used as a. Patient Center for the 1st for visitors going out for tourists going out if you will and also if someone receiving station for United States Fish and Wildlife Service that owns the rest of the aisle and you are responsible for taking people out there only to the amendments a visit to visit the house that's one of my duties correct um captain on the vessel because back and forth to take people and I don't it take to get. About a half hour depending on traffic in the harbor I was it's not it's not cheap back then but the island as a whole is no inhabited is it there's no one. Now there's nobody to occupy you I want anymore several of the small islands in the north chain there's 13 islands in the chain are occupied one or one of them is occupied 247365. And so this is not a 10 bedroom house is what I'm thinking this lie as I have actually seen pictures of I'm looking at pictures of it right now and it's a beautiful beautiful building would have been somewhere that sort of you know sort of family. High standing people in the community would have lived. Yes it was it was was and it was up by the the family of the people that own the island yes there will be that stone keepers cottage behind was actually built in 1927 by Gershon Smith when he sold 3 acres of property to federal government for the use of a large house right Ok And it's not funny because up to Sea Island is cut streets and things like that you know while out there are some old old streets from some of the older maps but now there's no more streets that really just anymore it was mostly it was mostly farmland sold most of the any of the streets and he would call them would basically have been trails right I'm with you it was thank you thank you so much for coming on in and chatting with us this morning all the way from America even Africa next to get admonish I go here's a volunteer and supporter of the North Sea satiation which the Sheffield Island lighthouse NICMOS no one believes that there was a lighthouse in Sheffield at that show we've. Very nice to. See. There is a lighthouse in Sheffield well in Sheffield just of Connecticut. Stories in Connecticut we've also had from a lady called Charlotte's who grew up in Plymouth and she could always see that famous lighthouse from her bedroom window and now we're talking to someone who's a little bit more familiar with ones a little closer to our shores and its new chairman of the association every lighthouse keeper is I Good afternoon Neal good afternoon. I'm sorry Well thank you very much for joining has I mean is it is wet and miserable where you are as it is here no we just have to sports earlier this don't say about it now you are showing off you say I don't know I'm thinking we're going to start to need a lighthouse in South Yorkshire not to be quite honest my dad. Neil you were here to chair the association of light house keepers have you actually lived in a lighthouse that yes I was in a large church caper. When I left the services or. It showed it wasn't your fault could just walk away from and forget about so I started it is so she didn't. Shown interest shown by general members of the public when the doctor showed intro membership to anyone show with no go over 800 members I mean this is fascinating you your id you decided the you get a set of this the size ca shit why. Because launchers keep it well to be honest it was the best job I have heard. It was a great job. Sir 16 years angels will. Read only just came along due to automation so it was with reluctance that a leftist. But it was a job I could just walk away from and forget about which is why do so it's for me so she agent. We've actually just produced to keep in line baby day. And keep in line present conversation with Rick Perry like Jerry's capers and support staff from Turner's house and all the lawn chairs board revealing memories of working to chase Leinster colleagues dramas and in every school will work in the military said this but yeah I mean we have our all museum donors Council but when I chose to it was on just slumber. And whip it just recently. From Brazil with your nearest position to yes after one this Navy throws one that people a lot of people who keep talking about at the moment and we've had quite a few texted on the same people find the place of centric that but what did your typical day involve When you were Alaska What was it what was the estimated 9 to 5 what was happened no it was interesting to know and shipped all I know there was 3 and cruel I cherish on the off shore ones 4 on the London based ones off shore. There was only one on duty to China but there was a 24 hour watch cat so the money came all the 4 o'clock in the morning they do a gig chill. The day the majority of the work was done in the in those I was with it was clinical Asian which given an oil change emission training down the steps of whatever and then you fought for 12 for foretell h. H o Midnight's and then the middle watch was midnight chill for in the morning which was a quiet just watch of course one of Qusayr obvious lies they know it not you stand a day in the always always man that had this these kind of roles now yes it was. It was there all the time change on a line on the ground it Joel I cherish we didn't have much room all 3 of you do it out to share one bedroom 1st lacking that kind of makes sense because in a marriage became felt that women could do it it was one of the 1st jobs for government that women could develop and reading with the fascination of my facts here I think most of the American ones were London based so you become a de she it more bigger accommodation where yet separate cottages and things I'm with the I'm with you now with what was coming to this say one of the most memorable moments of you being a lighthouse keeper to see the day with the ones on memory that really sticks out in your mind. Whom with this many to be honest the most minute. With this one incident where I don't when I was on in a dozing channel when a call comes through. The helicopter to come that we used to use actually as you go up to the line changes. And helicopter communion from one of the rigs and it was Luzhin oil could you do an emergency landing on there with. No problem so they went ahead and they managed to get down and again I did him down because. As luck would have it this was all me and he goes in which it was it wasn't your average grown each hour it was off the wall shelf the Lincolnshire coast and it was an x. Coal rig which was used to tell him to call off the northeast coast back in the day it go converge to a light shows in how they pull and plotted out on pontoons an inch on 4 legs on the same bed but with a range of bacon x. Ray I was able to guide him down to one side alley day and then 2 were able to get another small helicopter in London with a mechanic on board to come and sort him out but what was left to be joyless finished on our holiday but wow I mean is this like a sort of the really important job I mean did you actually came ball did any rest did us yeah actually have to manually put the lamp on. With. The lights on every night of course but we were asked often by the Coast Guard to look out for various people who did did last so I did or so until sometimes it could be a small coaster common in to nature to the rocks. Way of out there as being capers and know all those actually and you don't get in medals with climbing don't wish to rescue big things like that who got into trouble. And also on the line vessels. So many come alongside a weekend sailor. It deterred him up for the night they were. Look whether it got all of it and it did clear by the morning that it just makes it if the crew could to get in. A course to get into the home or. In the shed Yes certainly give it gives you a chance. It produced a copy of the a road map in a section of the coast on it. Right out otherwise the any money the cab to the lighthouse now being no they will not in this country they're all fully alternated as they are in most countries now there's one or 2 countries life with capers India places like that. But they're all fully automated in the role in this country they're all controlled from her age where I live now. And because very average the train shows covers England Wales and the Channel Islands and Scotland up there on all the lawn chairs border there is eligible the Irish up there all original It's. So easy if anyone's in trouble than you they like not you was just telling me about these in the car that got the medal for my skin the person rocks and all that kind of stuff how does that happen how does that way how did they get rescued. Well it did it did after call the coast no. Cause a lot because cars are being closed. They've been centralized. So there isn't as much coverage and respect but what sprawl was. Well a balance here coast watch to fill in this form of the gas sort of thing. Just fallen Jay is why I say Dude it's a little bit tricky that really doesn't mean we don't like houses do exist the world I live that I was surprised to replace and I don't know why for the felt that we ended a little bit but we really don't want to we we didn't even begin No no no no no no the 1st one was a ferrous of Alexandria. And that's going back one challenge and if I have a long long life. The 1st one. Bill in this country we don't know about the oldest . Course monks in some of the monasteries do did used to put a line in the windows as well. We also looking at power to lighthouses today it was national light house day yesterday I were asking for sort of your lighthouse stories now this can be something you know that you see in physically a lighthouse that you visited maybe he will maybe abroad maybe you see one of the old This one's ever what you think of it. Or maybe metaphorically. You have a lighthouse in your life. Maybe that's a person maybe that's a place that you go to 21 inches of the Chimayo a little bit and that sort of place of hope we're going to be talking to someone very much in a few moments actually it has a story that's very similar to that it's that any stories that you have of your own please do go in search of 14279 doubles Exhibit 9 give the lovely Rav a call. Bearing all this afternoon is Charlotte all cook She'll be right so she decided that going to sing the rest of it such she was going to just play a little bit of music it was no bad it's good still it's Blondie in the Heart of Glass here on b.b.c. Radio Sheffield it's 10. As such again from and it was White House yesterday and obviously fashionably late I think and I was going to be Danish I was celebrating it today instead now we've heard about a lighthouse in Sheffield that's the Sheffield island in Connecticut between people that there's a light house in Sheffield I had now it's to a lighthouse in the round and Alice to shop is the chairman of lighthouse Heinz enrolled or am I. It is a support that they both joined me in studio thank you so much for joining me today thank you very much for coming in now Alistair who are White House high seas were a group of Christians who have started off and now are in Shi'a broken with a pond and all over the area and we create households homes are places for people to live when they've got some of the great storms of life made a right mess of their lives and they want somewhere to be rescued so we find people and rescue them you see this is what I was going to ask is he said on my list of questions why use a lighthouse in the tie up even answer that he answered it that the fact that everyone is such a beautiful metaphor really and is that just exactly where it came from yeah it is a lot of people find life is complicated I mean light houses are beautiful things but they're there for dangerous times they're there when the storms calm and when people from the drowning and it's not just a metaphor people feel that many the problems in life they feel like they're drowning so we want to be a light to guide people out of that kind of mess and it's been very very effective and we're thrilled we are friends like Charles who've come through the project and hundreds of people have come through that so we want to be a place that can guide people away from danger of drowning and also it can warn them of danger and point them in somewhere better and give them hope you know what it's all about and before we come to your story is is if that really is and is that how did you get involved I mean obviously you've seen you've grown and grown and grown and how did you get involved in the 1st place this minister in Rome and you know when I read the Bible Jesus tells us to go and do things that are good and to rescue people in a mess so I just can't sing songs in church and not do something about it and one day someone said this organization needs a bit of help and I've got some business background so I helped them with some of the business and I found a tremendous group of people that the staff the volunteers the lads in the women. I just thought we're where is has been all my life this is where there's some real love and some real change in real life and I think sort of to give up gives you strength it's changed changed my whole life there's no doubt about it and Chaz and he joins us now as well is a volunteer for the for the lighthouse homes and this is a real sort of story of hyper real lighthouse moment for you was that it for me and for many of the people as well. Not for me was not very nice for Mormon is nothing more than a struggle my dad unfortunately was a heroin addict and it came to the point where it was injected into his body that much that he I came crawling across the floor as a child and he from across the room so much to make a decision to go it alone. My mom used to do things she used to go shoplifting she was an alcoholic she wasn't a drug addict she did what she did to put food on the table and put clothes on my back or unfortunately always wanted to have a relationship she wanted to be loved Unfortunately she got a bit unlucky and the man that she found didn't treat very nice and wasn't very nice to me as time went on I got involved in the wrong crowd I'm not making excuses I made some bad choices in life and I turned to drugs to mask the hurt and pain what was going on in my life it started off smoking cannabis then it led to shoplifting and before know it I was spending time in prison from the age of 15. Spent 11 years in prison and 15 years to drug addiction in prison our prison became institutionalized. Society probation all that sort of organizations didn't know what to do with me they saw I wrote me off. And I tried within my own strength of trying to change my life E.T.s programs drug treatment programs rehabs all that sort of stuff to no hope. Of eventually ended up in prison once again and a police. Suffer So what used to arrest me had become a Christian he's named Lawson Maine and he started working in outreach and he got in contact with me and he told me that if I was ready to change my life and I wanted to get out and know it then he knew a place for me that place was called the lighthouse that was 5 and a half years ago I came to the lighthouse with nothing more than the clothes on my bike I was broken I didn't have no purpose in life I didn't have no vision and basically the lighthouse stuff gave me hope they helped me to believe that I wasn't institutionalized that I could change my life and 1st and foremost from my faith from my belief in Jesus you know I tried everything in my life trying my ask the hurt and pain that was going on inside drug addiction you know morning. Adrenaline all them sorts of bodies and often satisfied and want to farm my faith in Jesus I can to understand that God loves me and I don't have to carry the labels of my past and the light house gave me the tools to live a life true free that was 5 and of years ago. Now today I'm now a senior support worker the lighthouse it's not a job for me I get to bring hope into people's lives share what I went through how they can do it you know I and I'm now married I now leadership in a church and I go into prison and share my story bringing hope representing what the light house is so you know the light house is exactly what I was the Says with that metaphor there is a spiritual aspect and we just want to shine God's light Jesus is light you know Jesus said I am the light of the world and that's why we choose the name or else. My eyes are leaking a little bit here I have to say is this story here now wants or want to serve imagine that I ever have and I look you know a very healthy you know remains strong. Well looking man and obviously that wasn't always the case so you if you personally be in that support work are a lighthouse for a lot of people that's amazing amazing and it's to go to get to the bottom of this do you have to be a Christian to be supported by like House. Majority and Christians that come to ours and no of course not it's anybody any race any create any sexuality and anyone can come and no one has to be part of the Christian part of it we do have a culture there where we want people to be free to say what they believe and what they don't believe and that's fine and nothing's forced down people's throats we make sure that's the case but let's be clear it works therefore we would be cruel to withhold it from people and it does it really it really does affect many people's lives so we make it available. I mean it sounds incredible what you guys did say tell us again sort of where you can find you know the lighthouse Hyams where about Star they are around this area where we have 71. 71 bad right Ok cross a number of houses we have one in shire brook which is in the or Great Northern Hotel and Scheiber West to be the White Swan It's now lighthouse homes that's where I read that offices and we have a women's refuge which we don't make such a fuss about because of safety issues for some one with me so that's a north rather and then we have a number of houses around but the best thing to do is look on our website which meant a lot relaunch and about a week's time lighthouse homes and that will guide you to if you need a referral straight towards the phone number is rather than 364-603-6460 extension 0 that's the best phone number to get all of us absolutely and of course if you want any more information on that you can always give us a call here as well on 14279 double 6 double 9 honest to sharpen it from what has homes in rather And thank you so much for joining me carry on for everything here in this light house to many people fantastic and. Chad Chad like it should Pat's ever be allowed to sleep on your bad flu. Last buggin you have a boss who I'm always for bugging Connie. She's a bargain hunter you know we sure hope when you were younger. Billy Ray Cyrus. Show you around. To your coffee to say good views why did you are very popular amazing and loving book you keep meaning to read . Could read by lethally stuff really will talk about more than just my view of a dying Jag Yes Who's the lighthouse in your life talking about lighthouses to talk it's my sister's dog your sister's dog is your. One degree and I would not ever expected that and so I love that why is this dog you like I was in your life she is just amazing she's just like an angel and if she would tell you she's a lot throughout she's. Here she's an angel in a fur coat this was only one of my most favorite things I. Actually thank you very much for joining us. On the show today is a question that we want to get it was that we did our 1st quick fire Tad that say Billy Ray Cyrus I think we should just leave us like that we should really have. To give a kind of you know be amazing I did I used to use amazing not so much anymore found out today just been listening to myself I'm obviously Wiles's a lot. From where does that come from literally as well they do say that quite a bit. Do you have what could you die you. Just read the news can. See right now explain Charlie to you she got red lipstick on and you're 33 Yeah you do you know look you look everywhere. You do she has amazing skin Charlie Wright said Describe yourself in 3 words this is one of the questions that was asked and we do have this as we said earlier fun resilient and hippie well explain the hippie bit to me please I'm just all about love. Like such a warm fuzzy. The love singing from right he has a little fuzzy show that you've seen about the love yeah it's just. Part of who I am nothing I think will take split in this obviously you know we wanted to sort of touch on this subject because you say that after 23 years of living with depression you found a way to overcome it so I can imagine and I look at you now you've got this beautiful sunny disposition about you radiant smile and you saying it's all about love is how hard was that to get to that. It was pretty hard I think I've always sort of had a sunny disposition but it was hard and it's been quite a journey a. Book but I think it's sort of made me who I am and made me. A day or 2 and just just yeah I think it's just one of those really. The things that sort of adds to the tapestry of life and makes us who we are I totally get such a lovely my top history of life I didn't have to go see these rollercoaster How would you live Yeah well when you were just leaving so I kind of believe in I'm reading this 23 years that it made you Ted how did you realize it so detached that you would press Well it was. Quite well I was I was clearly quite depressed. My parents had divorced and I was just really sad. It wasn't until I was about. A teenager that sort of got help bit of help and sort of got a diagnosis but I just I was sad for quite a lot of years realize I could you not just put your finger on it was it just something that just overwhelmed. Yeah it's just it was just all consuming really. Book. You know I've got through it and I don't know the side I. Tell is that somebody that you so much for was someone very important in life who was that my grandma why well she was choose just a really strong woman that just said exactly what she thought and they always are wrong with all around the bushes. And she just. Again made me part of who I am really like parents and grandparents do exactly do you think she was one of the changing points in your life that was able to sort of manage your depression when when did that happen well because I wish the therapist and it's been helpful to people so part of that journey of learning how to help the people of learned how to help myself and it was actually using e.f.t. That just as I was trained in I overcame my depression and it was pretty. Quick but there's been a bit of a journey after that as well book it's been Yeah what do you take stands for Emotional Freedom Technique It's also known as Toppin Oh I've seen this so when you have like this like yeah you do this to do I find myself doing this sometimes if I want to remember something quite often you do end up naturally tapping parts that are part of the top in sequences because it is like a natural part but you know you do top based on the Chinese Meridian system but it's also a psychological therapy as well so it's amazing and it can really change a lot if I've heard this many a time it's crazy something new teacher is it's just something that you've been involved with yeah teachers as well on. Are trained in it and that's what I do. With people as well this is and we're going to chat with you that for a little bit more widely going to stay around have a lot of them are there a late May challenge if that's all right but if you could only ever listen to one song again what would it be well it used to be a believe in by Journey but then a feel like Glee just ruined. Saying that. I have a horribly fallings but it did when I actually did Rocky Horror certainly not perfect but now I'd probably say hell. Going after me I'm not going to play it now than I. Get it Charlie if you stay with us for a moment. From Sheffield who was bearing these all for us this afternoon this is her try enjoy this if you have Well we had one heck of a party here in studio on b.b.c. Radio Sheffield great great. Chose that by I guess he was babbling a little today Charlie old cock eyed great song Absolutely it's amazing some. Of that which is kind of had by now bad didn't get into it now the reason that's the reason that a day that changed your life wasn't and it was nothing to do with me but it wasn't all the pounds what was the day that changed your life that you'll never forget Well it was seeing case. Why why did why would you never forget that day well they are just one of my iconic bangs. And it's just like just like nothing you've ever seen like euphoric my Yeah yeah. And I was I did you see them and it was just Sheffield I mean or I think I've seen a festival somewhere by car actually meant well it was. But yeah. I've got a really bad memory when it comes to gig. Blair And so one yeah yeah I was Leo a lot of that. Because where the money for. A joint is been joining is if you can tell us a little bit about life 23 years of living with depression she found ways to overcome it which is just fantastic you hypnotherapist as well how did you become a have Therapist Well I did to psychology degree and then I was looking at different. Therapies that I could do after I found. That of p. And thoughts on a bit weird so I looked into it I tried it for a spider for beer and then trained in it so we're not talking like you because there are pieces that you sort of see on the stage that gets people acting out like they were Calgon wrong or anything like that you know it's do that probably code but I really. Was going to be loads of people here that we could do in the office. I'm sure Rav would be up for you know sort of acting out anything and he's he's producing state we could get him to do that. Like for example I've got a huge fear of flying I hate it could you sort that out yeah absolutely oh. I did you find that that sort of helped. Overcome you know sort of your depression and like you say your fear of the fear of spiders Yeah well well I found a hypnotherapist. And went to him and he helped me to a fear of spiders which I just didn't think would ever happen yeah I was terrified even just the tiniest little spy rarely so I just didn't think I thought if they swear then that I'll do it because. It did yes being I think really of it's sort of a combination of the therapies that I do. My spiritualist say and lots of things really what do you mean by your spirituality and that's a tricky one to answer is that I want to straight well. It's quite difficult to explain I suppose it's more of a I suppose self development is probably an easier would to get you had around state of mind yeah and just. Constantly trying. Figure out ways to grow. From whatever happened yeah. You're beautiful and we talked about typing Yeah we just a moment so you know how can a topic actually change your board you know what can we can tap in help with well it can help with absolutely loads of things that can help with phobias. It can help with. It can help with depression anxiety stress. It's basically. They are all quite stressful things so yeah we feel stress in our bodies and tap in helps you to. Come but stress response. To the act of tapping actually sends a soothing response to your mind during your brain which is the part that sets off the stress response so when you tap in it actually is sending a soothing response to your brain and therefore to you Bob day and it helps to rewrite those stories or beliefs or whatever it is that's going on and it can help with really deep deep rooted issues and trauma. So for example we're not going to go more light hearted with. Just a baby always constantly on a diet because I am a nearly 36 year old woman who just is constantly on the diet canned tapping out with what parts of my body would I tap Absolutely yeah I could definitely help so there's there's there are different sequences that you can use. Tap on the meridian parting day so it's on your on your hands and on your face and on the top part of the body really. What would it do well as you tap in you talking about it because it's a psychological therapy as well so you you are tapping on. The problem and whilst you do when you help in to send a soothing response to your brain so. The the baby can find them online you can find them quite easily it is. Different So you start off on your karate chop I'm doing it now I don't mind doing it as. I'm getting lost in this conversation so explain what I'm doing so yeah you karate chop it. Up they're going to do you when you like they're on you on the chair and if I just think like if I tap and think I'm not angry or not angry or don't need that well you can do it. As a sort of. Not destruction method you know to get you were the initial. Craving but you can also go a lot deeper with that as well because a lot of food issues are actually not really about food they're actually about something absolutely yeah. Yeah and it's about get into that really because that's the that's the key to really letting go of that in itself so I understand I mean I understand there are a lot of people could be a little bit cynical about yeah I sort of was a bit I was cynical before I did the train in in both hypnotherapy on d.f.t. But I'm always open minded so I think as long as you're open minded then I think everyone should try it because the birth of change my life so this is if you're open to it then why not try it absolutely and you know Johnny won't make She was happy no one I mean obviously we've talked about your sister's dog Yeah yeah she's she's like we're going to call her an angel and. That's pretty what it was or maybe she would have been by the sea really makes me happy. It just fills up muscle and also my friends as well just just hanging out with friends so what we've got to kind of do is get we friends ship them to by the say yeah and then you don't live very much yeah I want what was I mean you've achieved a lot already but what's left for you to achieve here Charlie So I'd really like to . Move into the business online I'd like to do retreats all over the world I'd like to do workshops all of the world and just meet lots of wonderful fabulous people beautiful I love this and if you could to nominate anyone for being a bearing or guest who would it be. It's my friend well why well because the grey and he was with me when I was doing my application. And. I learned those lovely Well hopefully will if you're listening which I'm sure you will baby you and dad know what then let's get you involved in these are called from Sheffield thank you so much for coming on admiring all thank you for Big Lie is my snow with the I have a coming of that of the Depression and you just keep with that sunny disposition my love for you to. Bury celebrities are always in Southfield.
