Good morning for we see quite a change in all weather today across England and Wales yesterday of course that glorious spring sunshine and it was room temperature is going up to 20 Celsius in Q In Greater London but it's a cold front is slowly pushing its way southwards this morning must bring in area 50 cloud across Wales middle and since East in England and that will push into southern currents of England over the next few hours not a cloud could be kicking a for not spots of rain in one or 2 places but I think the most is going to be a dry start to the day and old Mr Fox comes over the hills 1st thing as well. It essentially is a cloudy a kind of day for most of England and Wales and with that cloud we've got a brisk East me wind as well so compared with the 20 degrees we had yesterday in London you know this afternoon will see temperatures of 11 degrees Celsius and that's a drop of 9 degrees further north across the north of Wales and Northern England actually things will tend to brighten up in the should be some decent spells of sunshine here but as far as the temperatures go for northern England North Wales looking highs of around $8.00 to $11.00 degrees Celsius the warmest weather just about clinging on in the southwest of in the Mochas the highs of to around 40 degrees before most of us as say is a cool and fresher kind of day for Northern Ireland should be starting the day fine but it's cold will be some patch of frost 1st thing in the morning but it's plenty of sunshine as well and I swear it will stay through the day drawing with sunny spells highs of 10 degrees Celsius in Scotland to a lot of dry weather but a cold start also in the colder spots plenty of morning sunshine but of after new carpet going up the temperatures around 7 to 10 degrees Celsius and we'll see some further changes looking into at the new working week breaks of rain working into the northwest of the cameraman there was a cold front in the cold from swings eastwards on Choose day behind that it will start much colder with the threat of some wintry showers Chris folks 5 live weather a lie schools coming up this cycle also a lonely place. There's some for the saloon one of the morning favors David Wooding is from the Sun on Sunday and this morning well you've guessed it it's all about see who had a bishop a nice to celebrate a new life for practice Alas it didn't arrive and terrorism after telling us 108 times in public that we are all living on laws the 29th will work upon most of the sitting families still fully fledged members. But the problem is there and. For us because practice is going to drag on and on and the week ahead is going to be wrong with lots more haven't used the day this strange journey can take us down and all of them lead to. Doorways and portals rituals leads into even greater problems of or last of perhaps an end to this this crisis will assume one thing it's awesome overseas having an impact on our own cabinet I know that Dominic Grieve has been in the news because he has he been diesel it's a new boy his lube food soon and there was there was a confidence vote in him. On Friday evening brought by. Some members of his local cessation and back and failed this is a story actually that we 1st revealed in The Sun on Sunday last weekend and he lost the vote and and yesterday the the Conservative Party chairman Brendan Lewis said the Tories shouldn't go down the Avenue of the selecting candidates because they don't agree with with that will be a bit less a standpoint as long as it's within reason. Unfortunately the people for Dominic Grieve the former attorney general. The local members are quite angry about it they say he misled them by by claiming he would back back Bracks it and. What would help see it through and I feel his comeback and his would by trying to frustrate it so they spoke was forced at the A.G.N. Of the local Conservative Party and the selection would be the next step if they can force it that way but we'll have to keep an eye on that one and say we're nice to just now obviously there was some angry protests outside parliament on Friday those continued $0.03 a day. Thankfully I was in Westminster on Saturday I was in my head office never shot on the bridge but I did pop out on Friday and have a look and there was quite quite an atmosphere there. It was quite different from the the March the other week there's a bit more anger there because these were people who had voted. Voted to leave your opinion and they were making the anger and their voices felt it was all peaceful of course but it was it was a different different feeling to it from the from the previous week yes and I think we'll see more and more of these as being crowds gathering outside to make their views known and we don't say this because if you don't deliver press it there will be quite a public show of feeling about it and of course you know if. People go marching and protesting one is a big issue like this which is divided the nation it's bound to happen yeah even even the public anger of this as a man is so pull the governor into and surely fools so he's amazing hand she's to the prime minister she's promised if she gets the M.P.'s backing do you that she would resign after that sometime between now and the summer found me how is she can you know the movement well. It's it's quite it's quite unimportant as I said to my editor yesterday this is the most crucial testing week since. Last. Week she had because it's it's it's a it is really a crunch week full for the prime minister So here's what happens. She's going to try and get that deal through for the full and final time now she has 2 weeks to go until the deadline and that we will put the clocks forward this morning. Stories in my part of the Bronx a clock forward by by a few weeks. Earlier than than a little because we should have left on the 29th of March she was extended till the 12th of April and if she comes back with the deal having been sick you'll It will be extended the article 50 Albrecht's it will be delayed to put it another way until May the 22nd so that's where we are she has 2 weeks to come up with a plan or to pass a deal with you now the way it is a member of the losing 3 times in an attempt to get a deal through parliament. M.P.'s voted you may remember last week all night what was called indicative of what I prepared to call a pick a mix folks was there were 8 different options ranging from no deal right the way through to no breakfast and they all voted full all 8 and they turned all 8 down none of them could get majority in the Commons So what they're doing tomorrow is the bringing back to the Commons refined number of votes of the speaker will pick probably 4 of the most 3 maybe of the most popular and they will choose a pick and mix way between those 3 to see if they can get one with a majority of M.P.'s in favor of the other one most likely to succeed is one rule by kind of cloth the former home secretary. Which is to remain to leave European Union but stay inside the customs union which of course breaks it is say is not a good thing it crossing one of to reason made red lines because it means who will be able to carry out all road. Negotiations for trade deals outside the E.U. Will be stuck in that market neither do you feel like it because it means the whole of the U.K.'s in the Customs Union and solve the the problem of the Irish border and having a backstop so this is unlikely to get the sense that they they could possibly vote for that one never goes over the line and the gain of M.P.'s backing at every last battle of votes last if that had a majority of M.P.'s back that then the that all of that would and his gang will will push to have that brought before parliament on Wednesday for a vote which will make it enshrined in law which mean the government will be compelled to take it to the UN saying this is what we want and then apply for a long extension of maybe up to 2 years well as renegotiated now that will crashes across what reason my stance will she said we're going to leave the customs huge that I don't want an extension beyond June of that it straightaway should be breaking all the manifesto commitments on Ollie Olivas she's made in the Commons over the last few weeks so what she will do is then bring back. Had a deal for the 4th and final time on Tuesday and say Write back this deal if you back the deal will leave European Union in a couple of weeks time you know but the deal we're going to get a much much softer Breck's it and that she thinks that might force the hand of those hardliners in the European research group the people who want the purist appeal Breck's it's with no strings attached no deal direct Who hanging out for that and refused to back the deal there were about a 110 of them it's gone down to 30 something City 8 I think by opposing it if she can get them on side she can get the deal across the line with them ban should be free but it's going to be very close she'll be free but what about us. Overlooking this purgatory forever talking about it you never get me off the radio dial to not be on every day tell you lots of things affected but well what happens if she doesn't get through of course this is the other thing if it doesn't go through she then the following day if the if the Customs Union idea by M.P.'s is is passed she's then forced to go cap in hand European Union asked for 2 year extension say she wants to join the Cause you know I can see how she could conceivably do that and remain prime minister because it's a massive humiliating climbdown on every level and she will probably have to resign effective she didn't resign I would suspect a lot of consensus to say you've got to go although they can't fire because they had the they had the vote of no confidence last December and can have another one for a year so they would have to for by persuasion to stand that and as we know she's quite a resilient woman so it's difficult and I with this goes another option it's because of cost to call a general election and say Right we go for a general election it's my ideal of what the M.P.'s want. Now can you imagine a general election where the it's a single issue of voting a general election on my deal all the customs union people saying well you got to be prime minister if you win this general election but you're going to stand on a deal deal is delivered so who's going to be the next prime minister we don't know and then what what are we voting for what are the what the labor stand for what do you stand for what have you achieved in the last 3 years oh we've done with of BRACKS It's how well have you done a well it can be very difficult election on the on that sort of issue and all to complicate that even further doesn't a lot of M.P.'s have said today that they wouldn't vote they most M.P.'s will vote if a government says we are going to vote for election and he said they wouldn't vote for a general election if he was leading it into them so you then this bizarre situation where the government is being brought down by a able to deliver its manifesto commitments the prime minister resigns as Prime Minister you have to have a leadership election and then you're stuck in this limbo if you call leave your opinion and and you haven't got a deal for how you stay in and there is a possibility we could then crash out without a deal but it would mean that the European Union would have to refuse an extension one suspects that they wouldn't do that because it would harm that and those but the whole thing is so unpredictable we just can't guess what it's going to go from 0 minutes to the next David Wooding there from the Sun on Sunday a special service of remembrance and concert has been held and cries judged to honor the victims of the mass shootings that seem most in the city speech according Peacock who joins us now from Oakland to get some more on this 2 weeks on call in is the nation still in mourning. Absolutely is very much still as a sort of sense of shock here some anger as well as as we move into another stage of this I suppose a lot of that directed at the social media companies of course Facebook live stream their video Remember So a lot of anger about that and fact the Australian prime minister came out quite strongly proposing new laws over there for penalties severe penalties for the companies and for individuals who distribute the sorts of distressing images we saw as part of that attack but yes the remembrance service if you recall and we could go on 7 days to the moment when those that attack began on the mosque we had a call to prayer multi-denominational service that was led by. Food of the El nor mosque in Christchurch where most of the victims died it was a very I wouldn't say healing event but a very soothing one and he gave a remarkable speech which New Zealanders really took to had so another week on from that last Friday another event we had a special guest in yourself as a Cat Stevens better known when he was a younger pop star he performed peace train and really it really was lift up by the crowd he was there some local artist performed as well and our Prime Minister just and right in took to the stage again reinforce that message that the bonds with Kiwi Muslims in the Muslim community remain strong and that the public revulsion at what happened as a strong as ever so again I guess another step another healing moment and quite a remarkable event that the nation watched on television last Friday and without trying to distract from the very serious events when the. Why Cat Stevens was there but was he invited Why did he feels important to come. Well he'd been he performed and visited the mosque I think about 18 months ago in Christchurch and he said he was here about the events he was a salute Lee startled by them and as I guess as one of the better known pop performers who converted to Islam and you know confirmed Muslim himself he was an appropriate guy to invite He in fact gave a very emotional television interview just yesterday where he described our prime minister as his hero for the way she handled it and reached out and embraced the Muslim community here and he was actually struggling to keep the tears at bay as he described what it was like to play that song in fact he was told by the mother of one of the victims he told Television New Zealand teenage guy that his son had been learning how to play the guitar and you know within the past week before he became a victim in those attacks had in fact been playing piece train around the house so it really really did strike at him and made him quite emotional but he performed really well he performed you know very stoically I would say on the stage but perhaps the real star was a guy we saw on the day and this is a guy I think in his early sixty's from fairy dust made who actually lived and Nelson in the South Island of New Zealand on the day of the attacks he gave these remarkable eyewitness accounts of what happened in the mosque he's wheelchair bound and was able to escape by hiding in the back of the mosque and gave these incredibly clear accounts of exactly what happened what he witnessed while at the same time saying his wife was missing he hadn't seen her turns out his wife lead a group of children out of the mosque says her maid and and in return for him knowing that he was in a wheelchair and very vulnerable and it was at that point when the gunman picked her and. Out and she was shot dead a so he spoke for about 10 or 12 minutes on the stage and all along he said I have no hate in my heart I don't want to have a heart that is boiling like a volcano with his words that anger fury and rage we must have peace not hatred he says he forgives the attacker has nothing but love for him and it's clear that something has gone on wrong in his life to want to bring pain to other people and his closing words New Zealand is a peaceful country and it's going to stay peaceful Inshallah So a remarkable for performance and New Zealanders I don't think will ever forget the image of Fareed have made on the stage that day but the government the authorities there are determined are they not not to give the oxygen of publicity in any way to the government. Absolutely right and there was a controversial decision earlier this week that's just gone by where our chief censor who has the power to determine things as objectionable which means effectively it's an offense to possess them or distribute them or republished them declared that the gunmen's $78.00 page so-called manifesto that he put online almost as soon as the your prior to beginning that attack on the 15th of March that's now been declared objection what So you cannot own it so that set off a bit of a debate among free speech advocates you know they say it's kind of weird that you know the many many New Zealanders who live in Australia the country where the sick used gunmen at any rate was born and lived most of his life but you can read this booklet of New Zealanders who visit Australia can go online and see it and read it and find out a bit more about the motivation for this guy who's you know preoccupied national fears for a fortnight now but here in New Zealand you can't without breaking the law as journalists or researchers you can apply for an exemption and pay a small fee and then the Office of the chief center will release it to you so media organizations such as Radio New Zealand where I work but you know that doesn't suit papers journalists on a deadline you want to be able to write about this but the chief censor is an apologetic he's described it as a crude booklet that promotes murder and terrorism it actually suggests targets and so on so he has no qualms at all about making it a legal document and that's not all the this is to be a lot of the gains phrasebook. Certainly isn't unfair just in the last few hours Facebook have responded and fake Max like a bit of the chief executive who has been under fire for saying absolutely nothing about the way his platform was used to distribute the killers or the sick use gunmen's manifesto and live stream video he said said absolutely nothing about it and in fact some very senior. State representatives in this country for example our privacy commissioner who's a publicly appointed person. He's described the silence of Facebook and its chief executive as it is and sold to our grief you know pretty strong words but today he's spoken out and said Well perhaps we do need worldwide rules on what can and can't be posted on social media platforms he's acknowledged that perhaps we have too much power over speech we have such a big prisons and admitted that basically they can't manage the platform to ensure that that it's always safe and that there isn't stuff that breaks the law or is you know extremely disturbing on it now before that the base that we'd head was a statement that came yesterday from basically his deputy Cheryl Sandberg who we know has been in conversation over the phone with just under a Do Not prime minister but it said nothing publicly until yesterday with the statement that began with kind of you know what we might call the cat out and paste prayers and thoughts kind of message and sympathy but it did go on to say we will look at what we can do and the distinctions a drawer or they destroy a distinct door distinguished distinction between white and nationalism white supremacist and they are saying Now initially they were prepared to ban the form of it not the letter that now they say look we are going to try and rid our platform of everything that meets that description so quite how they define it they haven't said but they now are finally responding to to the anger of this country over their color those rumors calling pig out there in Oakland that's about it from us for this morning thanks for listening.
