Where are we with name the place I think we need another clue. Clue number 2 remember you are looking for one place in Scotland all of these clues devised by Professor Carroll half professor of onomastics at Glasgow University she has one place in mind you have to work out where it is from her cryptic clues Clue number 2 there is also an Clare nearby the 1st clue this morning today's place name has a very shiny nose and Clue number 2 there is also an nearby so that helps let me just see where the guesses are going lots of people get in touch this morning obviously focusing on the dear thing. Let me have a bit of a tiny screen today so I'm going to be a bit slow read Gorton says Pete from Red Gorton old Rain says Tony Tony from Tata is it the arc of Arctic Circle which begins just south of Glasgow doesn't want to know that anyway you're on sorry Chris but thank you our dear Bamford says John Hannah collodion says their rules need says Brenda from elders the you can take all of these off your list folks because none of them are correct and are dross and says Helen. No you're going to have to keep guessing clearly but one today's place name has a very shiny nose and Clue number 2 there is also an antler nearby 80295 is the text Amber no after 18 years and at the age of 96 retired journalist and phone to all the apostrophe protections aside to John Richards has chucked in the towel the battle to preserve the much abuse apostrophe he says is lost ignorance and laziness has won. Is there possibly was fighting for any way Wallace joining us this morning is that Ruth wish her to join us and committed to good morning to Ruth Good morning good morning and Terry Victor from the Dictionary of English rhyming slang to Good morning to you Terry. Good morning Ruth perjured Richard signed disgusted by the whole situation doesn't say that he's given up the fight for the apostrophe and I suspect for loss of the rules about grammar and ignorance and laziness has one do you have some sympathy with his position do you do I think in fairness if you've got to the right old age of 96 you're loaded full stop. I'm kind of sorry about it because I think a lot of people think that the opposed to Vienna did all punctuation is just some kind of pedantic self-indulgence but actually it absolutely alters the same support we see in what we write it really matters but do you think we're any less understanding each other and communicate any less good at understanding each other and communicating well I think there's a difference to be made here between there were communication and written communication I think it's probably fair to say that there were communication can just evolve but having said that I don't know why you keep listening to sometimes 2 people in the review especially from him so it's of he just was I get very irritated by people who see I was sacked instead of a city or I was students that if I was standing there that might just be me but I do want to throw something at the radio at that point I have to say Ruth it's not just you and I have to name I'm generally very alike to many things but if I have to name one bug then you have put your finger on it that one drives me bananas correct and also I don't know if you remember kid it was an absolutely cracking book by Linnie trust. To the season Exactly and that makes my point about written written punctuation much better than I ever could if you remember it involves a pond going it by having a ham sandwich taking a revolver and shooting somebody else and that's because. Kind of each Shoots and Leaves But of course if you look at the dictionary it is kind of cool and each It leaves Yeah I mean that just makes the point absolutely brilliant so punctuation I think it's really you know I say often don't just need to understand it in comprehension but it's a bit harsh to say that you know ignorance and laziness. 'd has caused assume egg nor it well yes I think absolutely has I mean the example I just gave you but I wish that you know that is just and Lee's Enos personified Why would you be sat there when you could quite comfortably be sitting there. Just takes it then said recently visited the website of the local high school headmasters welcome and Headmasters reports no apostrophe on either I emailed headmaster and or was Julie faxed Terry doesn't get your goat I want to k. Usually and a little bit good also I think the quest to save something that is a squiggle is a bit quixotic isn't. The Shakespeare said it was legal is it I mean is Ruth is a squiggle. Thing. We possess if it's supposed to tell you let's there's a missing nobody White knows where it should always be oh how can you yellow powder blue what green grocers haven't caught it supposed to be it's I mean what I said that wonderful that they're trying to use the punctuation as best they possibly can you know if you think it's the best all of the so you being the apostrophe is coming up with a nonsense tale about a pander or the other one someone's eating grandma common sense tells you how to use the language well and I'd like apostrophes I like all sorts of punctuation but I do think that we make too much of them and sometimes we don't know quite what to make of them I've seen Christmas cards with season's greetings on without an apostrophe then the less well make it. Just how do you get to get rid of old rules that all punctuation rows all rules of grammar Terry I mean if they have no one else can go home or hey we've got to be altered to the fact that people use in their language and the punctuation we use when we're writing echoes the way we speak you know if i'm not do you think one way Reiki candy kills people exactly what we mean let me throw another one at you that we said our lovely guy get it really great Spike Milligan used to use and it was if you remember that lovely song well just this thing called love and he used to really not with. The called motherly. Love. I mean that was on the radio this week is a lovely day for Joe to tell you it's not a written call but you know it's a spoken poor comedy and will tell me exactly what he called me and it it came I just I know nothing is in intensive care at the moment is the same equaling know a lot of people think that it's just them another piece of pedantic you know it's just I don't know if you get an awfully useful thing in between I call my nephew so I think the semi pro do something we really should cherish Oh I love this now what is interesting Ted is so so so you would cherish the semi-colon But you're happy to to discard the apostrophe. The people who don't use it there's a difference it's not ignorance and laziness that doesn't use it to a degree the online world makes it impossible to use an apostrophe not possible and you have examples from boxing of people like walk to the book who drop their apostrophe because they thought it was better but equally McDonald's exists. With an apostrophe that there is no hole. There are hardly 5 just that people are choosing to ignore them but just what he's saying so Ruth Go on tell me so I apologise for not brussel sprouts were the time of the year where is the apostrophe . Well I actually call them the devil's testicles but each to their own. Will not love brussel sprouts Well I don't think we. Will go there what is the apostrophe I don't know Ruth we're going to the point people try to. Go they would be the Glasgow sprouts right Granny does no truck with anything as ugly as special. What was the point here for her. Who are now having an ugly dog leave instable competition. Will go but what. Can I just pick up Terry on something that you said about tolerance and put that to you with we had a discussion on the programme a few weeks back and it was a labor m.p. And I'm sorry I'm struggling to remember his name but you know he stood up in the House of Commons and he said that he was dyslexic quite severely dyslexic. And he was just sort of appealing to people who were continually correcting him on social media on his spelling to say you know give me a break here I do have a problem with the written form of the English language and just back off Ok that's fine I mean I've got every sympathy with people who've got a genuine problem with comprehension because of my vision problem we need friends polluters is a leader for I get that absolutely and I would you know and if I've ever done that you know because dyslexic can I Richard speak to be apologize but for most people it's just a question of observing a few simple rules and you know as I see how it is for them to push if the answer is just ludicrous as it's particularly with an apostrophe and you know I keep saying no and billboards oh say greengrocers Well yeah but shouldn't we be more inclusive and say well actually the most important thing here is that we are communicating with each other and that we are getting our messages a whatever they are and when you pass out I mean I'm exactly the same as as you. The potatoes and the carrots really did gets me but I know what they mean you know it's not that I am confused by I just have that slightly the silent tucked in my head and I know when I go I can let you know what you know she could actually look and think you're going to give each boat straight no indeed no that would be awful but you know it as I see it it doesn't really matter I guess tell me is that that what you're trying to tell us at the end of the day I don't think it really matters it's a useful tool and if you're writing something and you need to be precise in its nuance . That's where apostrophe really works is where any form of punctuation works but for instance we can't show irony your sarcasm without punctuation we can only do it when we speaking punctuation hasn't caught up with us so we are not punctuation for not doing the job or else speech and if you're if you're some kind of shipper lift up there since the apostrophe is always right. If the words even mostly Ok because the punctuation by definition is a tool for they really want to know obviously you can have a variable a poster feel. Well know what it's doing is read represent the water or the case of a coma represent your pores or semi-colons or and so forth but you're good people have to try to invade your pieces of punctuation let the entire about what you know what the what the entire about you know. I do apologize Lomas almost always like one at the end of. My course remarking that. Oh right who knows how little I know you think I'm Tony but that you're just so you know they're hoping it works for me Katie because one of the other problems I have is with the American nation of species needs every change and you have to has to do it in a creating kind of fashion just can't get it. When yes but that's not if you're going to do it in Australia yeah yeah. So it's a taken as he then it's the apostrophe is you know becoming lost to was. Well you know a way for hundreds of you know good but it isn't important yesterday and the preciseness all faith is becoming less important to us then and John Richards would say that this is down to ignorance and laziness and Ruth would tend to agree why why would you account for it. Is that you simply evolution of the way we speak in the way we use it in the what we see is important. It is not true wastage. No I mean I don't think you decide to be all wrong I do think it's important that we protect the apostrophe but I was that you support that we don't make you do it it's only your squiggle can I can I just interrupt it one more thought one more thing only it's going. To go then no good Denise minor joining us crying right to Denise my dying to know what she thinks about this great deal how punctuation is impeccable. Apostrophe daughter grow I just wanted to ask you quickly what you thought I seen as opposed to so I don't need to post it did does that aid comprehension. Start looking. In your find it doesn't make a lot of difference is wherever you are to have you speak. To the plug on you know tell you really sound do not. Tell others all that no one says. I'm kidding I'm kidding. Thank you a very spirited defense of the squiggle from Ruth rush out and Terry says you know . An American I say should I do apologize with say a couple wait to hear what the newsmen are thinks of all get it on with Brian Barnett on tonight's get on Honestly no could tell. Radio Scotland it is $1021.00 still to come. Yeah that is does the sound of Cameron moving she sang another song to me because which I'm getting fed up with that one but anyway she's she's very very successful she's got lots of lots of followers on social media in the millions a gilded life one would think but she says she's relied quite heavily on therapy to get her through tougher times and she wishes that it was available to more people so and should we all consider the benefits of therapy and role silence here our resident bad press fortnightly visit do get in touch if you have any questions at all that you want to put to Ross about your pet's health and wellbeing 80295 or you can. Call 859295 double got something to say text a tone to name 5 Sandor nascent 3 to 5 mornings with key item on b.b.c. Review score. Quick catch up with name the place before we find out what Denise minor things about the squiggle. One today's place name has a very shiny nose Clue number 2 there is also a nearby so the 1st 2 clues for name the place you're looking for just one place in Scotland correct guesses thus far so Professor Carol Hough Professor venomous is a classic university keeps the correct answer close to her chest as yet or says Scott. Holyrood says Dave Ansel King Horn says Patton Inverness Macduff says Joel. Got a duff thing going on here that's from l.c. Clearly the 3 look no further for a good hiding place for Christmas presents. Or so today's place name has a very shiny nose Clue number 2 there is also a nearby and Clue number 3 look no further for a good hiding place for Christmas presents at 8 to 95 is the tax number so crime related to these miners back on b.b.c. Radio Scotland airwaves later on today with more revelations from Scotland's legal history and she joins us now good morning Denise has located morning now listen before we get on to your program important issues to discuss the squiggle the squiggle the square go well you know language changes it's organic I mean language is what people make it really and you know you can really against it but things change and they do develop in language belongs to the people I mean that's that's one of the things that makes people really angry is the dictionary as you know and grammar books are we or of recording hope people have been using language but I did find myself stands and you say to stolen 3 hate Christmas market the other day and muttering new because it was sausages with an apostrophe. Also just starting. Oh it doesn't go to Britain had Christmas market temperature blood pressure's going to be through the roof. And the other thing I have to mention is that I noticed on social media that you're one of your you know many books has been chosen by research Witherspoon and no less as part of a book club yes it could fiction and it. Was so what she has this massive book club which is basically taking over from Oprah Winfrey's club and she gets everybody to read one book at the same time and they talk about Newton they do get inside the door of every Barnes and Noble there's a table with Reese Witherspoon's book club already in it she is biggest. Shouldn't Judy she's bigger she don't know you the biggest thing. She's amazing and she you know she they get you to do lots of promotion things and they sort of and you know we get have discussions about the can they have groups who read the book and then discuss the book and then feed back stuff and it's just that we have making reading really interact so all tipple also for people who are visually impaired or don't have time to read because reading is quite look studious and they have an audible also produce sort of the because part of the big deal so it's not just about sitting down and read in a book so is that big news for you it's enormous I mean this really is just huge it's lovely and you know the big chemo like 6 months ago and or 7 months ago in the states and so you kind of expect the can a peak of it to be over but in the run up to Christmas it's just lovely and people get in touch with you in the sea off red doesn't know or that came to my attention because one of the things about books is so many are published every year and I don't know if other people find us but I like those but clubs because they give you some well yeah yes some definitely a book and it's a bit dull Well I mean I have to say I. Love the. Literally a recommendation then ever I get an email in for them I always kind of store it to one side and it gives me a start because I mean it's it's a fabulous fact doesn't that there are so many wonderful wonderful books out there in the world that will never ever even discover Yeah I know I mean it's tragic really you know I mean it's really tragic because you know I think more people are writing no more people are producing brilliant books and it's just very hard to get those highlighted so you might write the book of your life yeah I have you know cast away into writers for 6 months and be able to promote it. But it is changing that one particular thing to something what's the 6 months at all and then clearly you recover because that's not so you criminal it when you go to 9 fire. You know what you know sometimes people are not promotable because you know they're quite shyly Yeah and do you think should we not be reading books from Chinese people I mean you know I mean I mean absolutely for books to fall through the crime yeah and getting a book to sort of punch through you know takes a lot of marketing power and I have to and can depend upon random things but it is about the money behind it because I prayed awful awful books that were punted family heavily as if they were great works of art and they just they just should not have been published describing told me Oh it's awful there was a moment when Piers Morgan's autobiography which is almost comedically. Was up against one of the Rowling's books for the because a year and he was very angry he hadn't won. That he hasn't won I don't think. It's kind of sports day to be angry and they did it when. Did I when they're going to say. Anyway where we're digressing dreadfully Let's talk about cases trees and a 2nd series for b.b.c. Radio Scotland starts today is that right yes it is on the we've got 4 episodes running up to Christmas. And the 1st case we're doing is one that I kind of stumbled across last year was making a documentary about Dr Johnson and James Boswell with Frank Skinner and we did a 2 year they did a tune of Scotland in 16th $73.00 I think so we did the 2 hour and that one of the final points was Embry recast so and it was quite an order they had a dinner party and they went out for dinner but James balls will the with Lady of the host Elizabeth gunning was not talking to James Bowles will so a lot of his diary of the of Ayn is talking about how you can understand why she saw annoyed at him you know and there's a funny atmosphere at the dinner what's going on what's hard problem then so I started to drink to have a you know here then it turns out that this amazing story the Douglas causes behind it know the Douglas cause it was as if the car dash eons of Scotland had split into 2 knees and were fighting over the money dash ins of Scotland the 2 richest families that's all and so and I get on a slate and there were riots in Aden bra and it was over a fortune worth $12000.00 pounds a year which at the time was an enormous amount of money yeah but people were so involved in this $100.00 those and pones worth of baiting was laid on the outcome of the courts ations case over it so it became a matter of kind of public interest it was he they were really isn't egret the Lord President of the court sessions how does windows turned people group into holy writ house and trashed the apartment I don't know what I was going to I mean it's just ridiculous trash the apartments that one of them had been born and so the story is this is an enormous fortune and it's about to go to this family that we're in very castle. And the old the man who who has the fortune that this. Was his name Archibald Douglas he's a 1000000 years old and he's got a sister and neither of them have children he's mad he can't read and they are the richest family in Scotland at 50 years old the sister goes off to Paris with an adventure she gets married and 50 years old she comes back and she said guess what everyone I've had twins really. Don't look like me. So anyway the money is going to one of the with twins survives and the money is going to him and the other side St a private detective to Paris and 6762 to find where these twins came from and it's actually really well documented because Paris was a police state at the time this is before the revolution so anyone coming into Paris is immediately cloaks and followed around so they came to know where they've gone and what's happened so the whole case hangs on whether this 50 year old woman really had these. Or whether she bought them from a glass blower and from Sanjit sundry the dancer who I think was a trapeze are you making this up but just to go it. Was a good trick so the whole case the whole case comes down to Emily is a nailbiting finish James Bo's will publish $27.00 articles in favor of Douglas Douglas Hume Adam Smith and Dr Johnson are on the other sites they are in favor of the embryo Castle people everyone chips and everyone's got an opinion about her and and James Boswell can understand why she's annoyed he published 3 novels arguing against her in very romantic florid terms but actually there's more to it because the reason everyone was so involved was not just the money and the Wasn't tail either way in and the reason they're so involved in it is because it's a sort of proxy war of room and. Says I'm there's the Enlightenment So if you're being rational you would come down on the Embry recursive Castle people and if you're being romantic you believe that you know this woman had twins quite suddenly quite And I think you took all the wealth is going to. Actually there's sort of principle behind our tightness on the really are those who are good at talking about going back to a more kind of I don't take things are not pedantic think things travel Jim I did he said we just sort of break for travel and then we need to just hear a little bit about the principal I don't want to blow your entire series because people I want people to be listening today a case histories at 1313130 but we need a little bit on the mother of project. I think and the reason travel morning are very. You don't need to be late your niece's 1st class hazing obviously you're going right where else where else would you rate the least does not want to give the punchline you know straight away but teasing as and a nice on an Aberdeenshire heavy going on the a 96 through the road works here slowing you down in both directions again Lochhead getting reports of an accident here on the 817 surrender Lochhead traffic said to be coping well I think something's history of the tree so in that area dismay in the approach our own there are sure head back to La nature that is 75 with Fleet Street Run Kirk shores road speed sensors picking up the leisure do have roadworks adding to those delays and train them to peace in Galilee the a $75.00 the convoy system which is in place here is slowing things down as well as b.b.c. Radio Scott the travel thank you very much and Marino Denise I know that John Beattie is champing at the bit to speak to you as well to just tell us a wee bit about one of the other cases that you'll be looking at in the series which examines the of principle the middle principle is a boat corroboration and a man basically in the 1920 s. And. V. He underpaid women into the back shop and trying to say actually sold them or harass them and all these women became together and they brought an action against this man and it's about how do you prove something if no one else is watching because in Scotland we have a very clear rule that you have to have 2 sources of information to prove any fact so what they did was and he was basically he was attacking these very poor women with North social power whatsoever and a lot of them brought their action together and they corroborated each other even though it was distant in time and police which you know big but the case is really amazing because it was me too but it was Glasgow working women with no power who could be suddenly can't get inside of the ever complained about and if they had and they had access to the law which is interesting in itself it is an absolutely I mean people are so used to that this was happening and that the you know I mean I don't know how the case was paid for but the fact that the case was brought all because I mean women of that generation and the social class were regarded as more or less disposable but people were that happened and and it fundamentally changed the law and people and lawyers to d. Still say let's move all of us and they say about 5 times a day in any law office is a huge like saying No actually our little Yeah let's move off this. Yeah. I can another you know another time a seaman I mean I must be so interesting for you to be going back into history to look at legal cases and and actually if you take the basics of it you could translate it into the here and now well one of the lovely things about law if it's taught really really wail is it is narrative so you hear the story you remember the principle from the if is just principles which you know very often is taught of a dry we actually is all about tailing stories and it's all about where you can see the justice here obviously the law is you need 2 people to witness a new thing but we cannot allow this to. Because as we are so you know basically their stories their social stories and that's what he says trees all about is really about the social stories of these things they're well 130 to today and to hear more about the 1st one the fascinating case you're telling us about what that does look at just before I let you go to talk as you said romanticism verses what was the lightening which was rational reason Versailles is romanticism because boys will rule is really romantic story about a poor orphan boy who is being denied his rightful place in the novella to take it will be but you know it was the most of it made everybody feel that this would be feeder to give it to this. Dancer scared to sing to me which I mean actually kind of as Peter Love You know in light of it versus romanticism is very very rare for current times and I'm going to start eerily mentioning that in conversation we did off yes thank you very much well of course this is a cares enlightenment venture a man's as a business really anyway there you go and Denise thank you very much indeed it's always a pleasure to speak to you Denise a miner and can I say one of Reese Witherspoon's favor authors just wanted to get in there where are we with name the place we go to do Clue number 4 is only 20 to 11 loath to be honest I'm loathe let me see how we're doing with our guesses. But Keven says cow the new port Greyfriars says Mark and I'm free Eaglesham says John Jones an ear can look even says Stuart Livingston says a lot of George yet again kind of remind you these are all wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong Bart if you're going through a process of elimination it may help you to hear the wrong answers. They are sorry it's not that bad and Buck Haven is popular but indeed wrong new klaxon as yet we've had 3 clues thus far I don't want to give you another one yet clear number one to. Place name has a very shiny nose Clue number 2 there is also. Nearby and Clue limber 3 Lucknow farther for a good hiding place for Christmas presents 8 o 2000005 I am going to keep you hanging on for another clue just for about another 10 minutes or at least until after I have spoken to roff silent. Resident award winning very good morning to Ross Ok Good morning how are you this morning did you get there I'm not even going to ask if you've managed to work a yet because I know you sit there your eyes cross the glaze over your head lol back a little bit you know they're definitely not my strong point no no my neither my Neither don't know the answer today no listen I have to ask you well 1st of all let me say of course Ross is going to be back after 10 it's going to take whatever calls you have about your dogs and your cats and your parents and your homes as whatever your pets. 859295 double takes 8 to 95 but this thing that they're so reported earlier in the week you know we've always said that dog years are you in dog years that one human year is worth 7 and dog ears that's what we say isn't it yeah yeah that's been said for a while here so a 2 year old dog is actually 14 in human years and did a mass after that and this is being challenge it will not challenge has been shown to be nonsense this legs it's not often I would do something about methylation of d.n.a. And find fascinating but there's these scientists have done a study for the states the thing called methylation of d.n.a. That assesses hold the d.n.a. And say peoples or dogs sales are and that's something that as people get older this process happens that correlates with agents a linear relationship so they decide to do in dogs as well and see if the same thing occurred or if it was different whatever what the right. The short is that dogs don't just kind of age regularly one year equals a 7 human years that actually show in the dogs as the age and the the graph kind of goes up and then it levels off the dogs get older or younger but then they have a slow and steady can of older years that we're so the key thing is that a 2 year old dog as equivalent to a 40 year old pair since so no I t. Major you know that a bit older than that but it's an interesting concept Yeah yeah so but the say that the age implies that there still is that it's lose their own so recently got to 2 years old or about 44 years old that about 50 you know so slow and steady after them but the thing that made this plea interesting to me is that they often you know we see dogs are maybe 2 or 3 years old the quite often have you think of as a disease I'm a common if it older people so the main thing being arthritis you know and quite often dogs 2 or 3 years old kind of create significant austere scientists and this kind of makes sense because now we know that dogs are are younger actually can be older and get these Is it normally to associate with older people so this will potentially have an impact on the way that well not to the way you treat dogs but in terms of their care and there's the care and it was a great Satan is that more and more you know what we don't like doing studies on law banning was not in the thing that's not really something that should be done much and you know there's a big move to try and bridge is how much studies that are done there's more interest in trying to use like not cutting disease and and pets to understand diseases that affect people so naturally occurring austere fighters and dogs is a good example we know you know that dogs can get up to 3 years old and that's perhaps something that can be a you know measured in a safe and we can learn techniques that work in dogs that may actually be useful to help people with these kind of diseases in the future right Ok and 1st movie is so certainly as we've got some barely questions then should we take a couple of our lessons and then give our best back after 11 to take on any questions you have a big. Your pet's health and well being. 59295 double 0 is there the number to call or of course 80295 is the text number this one from Gail my dog was dressed 2 weeks ago at the time the vet said that she had a chew down her throat and it may be a bit uncomfortable she is still having the odd pain when eating especially things like biscuits and yelps should I take her back to the vet to be examined. Dogs and cats pretty much every dog or cat that has an anaesthetic has a chip put into their tricky into one paper to help govern walks in and to control that I would say if they can keep them you know they're safe and comfortable through that and say it's a good match some things can cause a bit of adaptation inflammation the back of the through and it's not uncommon a dogs and cats can have a bit of a cough for a day or 2 but they fully know it for any more than sort of 4 or 5 these I think for Gail it would definitely be wise to get our dog checked out to make sure is nothing else going on you know the most common thing is that my shove kennel cough you know that causes a cough Oh right I'm not quite often some that can happen at any point and you know relationship with that on this day I think in the surgery but I would definitely recommend get some dog checked All right so it may be something quite independent of you have that procedure and you see the expression dogs getting dressed and yeah come from also view I just as I was reading a funny thing to say that I may be metaphors for a new for the course there as Asian or whatever so it's any more just that one this is it yeah I have absolutely no idea because I think dress is also came of you know you can talk about that being used for male dogs as well somethings the use that for the boy dogs as well I don't know but I have no idea if it comes from k. Yeah well I'm sure somebody will be able to get in touch in their little detail as well yeah yeah. Another quick one here this is from Cheny I'm thinking of getting a rescue cat. But is it possible to get a house cat and if no is it difficult to train a cat to use the litter box there are definitely ludes a cat so there are looking for homes in the some really good charities you know the larger charities and there's a local independent charge Israel there are looking for homes for cats and quite often these come from homes where they've been used to being a host. They may need a re home just this circumstance is changing what I've heard of how to families and things so I think for Janie if she gets to know a local charity quite often that's the best way of getting to know a cat that would kind of you know easily into our lifestyle and under routine her host so they find out what to do so when we say you know a house cat Are there certain breeds of cat there are you know that I'm more likely to be comfortable being a house cat or is it just purely the way that any cat is rere There's the well maybe are some but it's more likely they'll be house cats or certainly don't see even the Sphinx cats they're the ones I know here you don't see them in the streets very much that they feel like thing and they do know but it's more the temperament and the personality some cash really don't like going to say they just don't want to do it so. Maybe as a breed component I think ultimately because it's a personalities and for that you know what they've been like in the past and and for the not really going to say yeah it is Ok if you know it to be inside all the time let me just give the child Gypsy going to get some fresh air. If we're looking for the 3 house cats and stay inside but those you shouldn't forget that cats do need exercise and you know some of the you know the house cow that just sits on the sofa and watches the tame t.v. Or listen to the to read or whatever and. That's not so good for the cat you know they still need to be active and move around the house so you know we would encourage you to play with the cat to use maybe a release or pointer from to chase a boat things that you get that owners do that some cat owners do that they find a bit about. Casey. Balls the big need to play with it for a while until the food comes over to the work however the noise you get little toys for the bus is going to say there is a bathtub over there pause for a while until the food crews are there so this is they'll have an active lifestyle you know as best they can even if it will grow. I'm just thinking maybe we could get that for us you know maybe you know your dinner plate that you have to do a bit of exercise before you get your dinner. And then again maybe it won't. Last We'll speak to you after 11 Thank you very much indeed and we'll be back to take your calls Oh wait oh wait 59295 w. I'm has a very shiny nose clearly but 2 there is also an ant nearby Clue number 3 a look no further photo good hiding place for a Christmas present and Clue number 4 fresh at the box a local landscape name would chime with Dick Whittington I hope that helps 8 to 95. Call 910-808-5929 extension 5 w warnings with key out of b.b.c. Radio Scott. Got the fingers crossed as they say this she's a popular Disney star with more than 30000000 social media followers. I think that was a different song wasn't it was all being written for the so. She's very open about the fact despite her apparent success than ever they get her gardeners Rosie she often extols the benefits of therapy and recently expressed regret that it's not financially viable for all so are we beginning to see therapy becoming mainstream and is it something that we might all benefit from psychotherapist Emma Kenny joins us this morning morning Emma Good morning good morning Judy carer's is the phone or all of cell space morning Judy morning good morning Tanya McCurry broadcast the morning Tony you know you morning Kay Good good to speak to you Tanya Well Judy you would very much like therapy to become something that more people access wouldn't you yeah that's why we launched self spaced is a guy way before that exact thing to make it much more of a high street and gaiety than it is at the moment and really trying to encourage people to access it like they might going to the gym. For well for what purpose. To maintain good mental health so that we kind of encourage a culture which measures the way from Whiting until crisis and that we start to really actively participate with maintaining mental health and it is hard work and to stay a while and I think and there's a misconception around the site day that we will all be well all the time in the spring crisis so I think something about the scale. Really is that so I mean if you know someone were to adopt your approach to it and they didn't have anything particularly low life that the they needed to address I mean what would they be going to therapy for what would they be doing. Well the way we kind of view it is that talking about how you feel is a really useful exercise. Also when you're in crisis but also just to check in with yourself in the same way we flex lots of other muscles this idea of knowing ourselves really well so that we have the skills when we meet really challenging things in our life but I think lots of people really think they should only access their a-P. When they have a problem and there's lots of really kind of productive work in helping people reach their potential which isn't necessarily in that space is don't know what we do with or with our friends and with our family you know we have these conversations these more introspective conversations do do we need to be that a professional endeavor I think both I think talking openly with friends and family is really you know good culturally and for ourselves but often it's very it's not very impartial people have their own views and it also isn't necessarily the only way of kind of talking about how we feel and I think in the u.k. Particularly we actually find it quite difficult to answer the question how are you and so I wonder if if sometimes in that space we don't get to the truth of it often so I think there's kind of merit in all of it so it means we use about sort of promoting emotional literacy if you like you know I think it's about really encouraging people to address I guess how they're feeling what's happening in their lives and supporting them to reach their potential. Lots of different ways. We launched in February and we were full within 3 months so it was there in that 1st branch interesting. Oh we told you you at a point in your life decided that you would benefit from some therapy but it was it was very much to do with with a certain. A certain event and certain feelings you're absolutely I mean I'm from a generation who grew up and therapy and counseling was things that self-indulgent Americans did you saw in Hollywood movies or if you're in a clinic with a severe addiction you have that so I'm not the generation who would probably now you it's much more acceptable Yeah I went to therapy after a couple of Clangers in my life and then my mom died and it just kind of cumulated in a situation where you know just as we're sitting there I've got great friends a great family a top 10 but a lot of the time but I was with that she said to me you know you're really not coming to terms with things why do you go and see somebody professional and to be honest I'm never thought I'd be the sort of person that goo to a professional counsellor and I went 3 or 4 times and it was incredibly useful because you could go and actually talk about something specific because sometimes when you're talking with your friends or your family you can either want to lose them with the baggage because you don't want to meet them feel bad and they also might not push you to ask yourself questions that you probably need to amass for a therapist being a professional was really good and I went to see key for one particular incident which helped me cope the situation and that was that but I don't see myself doing regularly and to be honest it's not that cheap I don't think it's a lovely idea but I don't think we've got the time or the semester the finance to kind of. You know Joy at that kind of activity. We let me bring them on the I mean that's where we get down to the nitty gritty as an a m a man for most people even when they do things across a situation that they would very much benefit from that a pay the cost of a can often be prohibitive and Skloot many many people. Think realistically that repaid the people who are middle class because if there is a cost involved in these days people just don't have that kind of expendable income or alternatively you wait quite a long time enough Not bad thing you should wait to therapy if you need therapy it's great you're going to be waiting passively a year to actually get to that point so it can feel quite explicitly back to your great I'm the 1st person to say there is a fantastic of course a he's pulling for us on a great relationship you might as tight as long as you get the right practitioner right because I think we need to communicate by saying Go therapy because I think you know communicate as neighbors are spreading the why I think that you should paper practitioners you can a protocol hell of a lot of great things from that but actually we have to think about it in the reality of what we're dealing with economically and socially and what can we do in our communities because the truth is that very often now we've got this absolute recognition that it's helpful the waiting list are growing and growing and growing the go popular because of all that we left because they kept launching let it be free for everybody which would be a basic why I give all my free clinics is why I give all my stuff online it because I want to give people the option to spray. Is quite small in the offering right so I think that unit pays like really think actually we have at least the faith that we need in each other and we need people that we can each of them in that way that would be my belief system I lack. But then you come back to what Judy and Tanya back this up that you know what friends and family might give you is not necessarily the same as what a slightly more distant and dispassionate therapist might give you and I would know you. Know you today are. Really. Thinking What was that if you're you say before we got very good at asking how to act a little bit and also to speak only to hear how well yes I get that. You know maybe there is a potential danger of professionalizing service so that people think well this is these are feelings that I need to go to an expert on and off load in the setting if indeed I can afford to do so as a huge factor whereas I think what I am are saying is is perhaps more generally being able to talk about emotions not just in the professional setting Yeah I totally agree with them I really advocate this idea of community and what does it mean to really kind of understand ourselves ask for what we need how do we do that and the kind of wider community and I really think that's so important just on the idea of kind of allocating money to it I think what I am always saying is so I write. A failed that is expensive and it isn't accessible for everybody at the moment by Also I think lots of people don't allocate money to it there's a lot of money spent on hair nails drinking culture and you often hear people talking about not feeling great in those settings and I do think we think of it as a luxury money as opposed to essential money where in the states they're much more advanced. And I I'm not saying it's accessible for everybody currently but there is there is something in the way we spend money well I mean how do you not just actually go out Herm's of you know. In terms of I think it's because for most people going to therapist it's a kind of still a bit of one that we kind of thing if you were feeling a bit down I could see go get your nails done go get you hear it and but it's also actually possibly admitting that I can't cope with whatever the issue that I have is that I'm going to have to go and see a professional it's a huge day to that that was a hurdle that you felt you had to get over well I was lucky because I actually have a lot of friends who are kind as they didn't go to them but I knew a bite and I use that you're comfortable What exactly are your 1st lady I went to actually he didn't actually jail west but then I went to a lovely guy who did but I think it's not quite there yet in terms of that report I do apologise for that but we're just up the news we get the right practitioner every you mention that a very important document about a fan medium wave on the b.b.c.
