I thank you for joining us from boxing with Costello advance 3 months into 2019 and the Cape players in the heavyweight division have now all decided on their next move and Anthony just should be on tape Wilder and Tyson Fury state will not. Be facing each other at least not yet yes they have a way for it's we all wanted are simply not happening Joshua wild and Fieri all with different broadcasters different promoters and very different agendas are going to tell you it's a heavyweight disaster well in the past few days Tyson Fury has announced that he'll face the little known German Thomas Schwartz say in the past week while the shared a press conference stylists in New York with fellow American Dominic Brasil they'll fight on May the 18th with wild as W.B.C. Title at stake and earlier in the year Anthony Joshua's signed to defend his I.B.S. W.P.A. And W V O titles against the New Yorker that said Madison Square Garden on June the 1st week turned into the year stave saying on our podcast right at the beginning of 2019 that this would be we hoped the year of the heavy weights for sure they've dominated discussions but not for the right reasons we were planning on looking at fights between at least 2 of them by the end of this year no Those 3 are not going to fight each other this year let's get that absolutely clearly stated now and you might have heard some promoters and some television executives talking boldly brightly and telling you yes 3 can still win this can still happen yes this might have another one that they're not going to fight each other this year we've got the Joshua fight that we predicted in October we've got that June the 1st big by rail mellowed to real big by the middle whatever variational combination of those you want to use and he'll bring it because he's got he's got a good tongue and he can fire a bit and entertain Joshua and 21000 people at Madison Square Garden absolutely fantastic the fight we full we could announce in February or for out February MIKE Every Monday we got together every Thursday we do stuff every time we were together we were about to announce it the rematch between wild fury it was done and dusted people weren't lying to. Many different television companies on both sides of the Atlantic and different trying as a measure that fight was dusted that the promoters of that fight were playing chicken with the promoters of the Joshua and Miller fight just working out where it was going to be so they did a book the same city a week later all we could and then suddenly out of the blue 3 or 4 weeks ago that fights off he goes down this route Mr Walter he goes down this route Mr if you're not fighting each other the earliest they will fight is next year but you know what Mike I'm not a gambling man but out of 5 P. And a coffee with yet I don't even buy my fight each other by my of next year and that's I said heavyweight disaster i'm not be melodramatic it's a heavyweight disaster judging by the response online to the announcements of at least 2 of these fights then fans are failing in pretty much the same way you spoke earlier about how the 3 key players in the heavyweight division who signed 2 different television companies not just here but in the United States while there for example has this deal with Showtime T.V. Anthony Joshua in the States is attached to design the new streaming service and Sky Sports in this country Tyson Fury with BT Sport in this country and now with E.S.P.N. In the United States and that was the biggest shock of the mostly because we were expecting a press conference sometime in March to announce officially that the rematch against WADA would be happening and then he signs with E.S.P.N. And we're hearing from Bob Arum who has a deal also through his top ranked company with E.S.P.N. And he saying that there will be another fight for Tyson Fury later in this year which will not involve the Ontario while the it will be another showcase fight possibly against an American Later in the year after he's had this fight against Thomas force on June 15th in Las Vegas and Bob Arum is talking about if Walter vs Fieri 2 is to happen it will be in the early stages of next year. You know that's a that's a lovely ideal plan but we left Los Angeles Mike on the 2nd of the Assemble we have another plan in place and that was that Walter and fury would get a rematch they had that rarest of things in the boxing world they had that bit of high moral ground and I can assure you this there's not a lot of warm copper up at that glorious pulp in our sport but they were there the 2 of them 6 foot $9.00 and $6.00 for I know whatever height they are wandering around on that ridge in net rarefied air knowing they would if they were going to give us a rematch of what thrilled us not just us but what is in my opinion reconverted the American public to the heavy whites the Americans have not been bothered about the heavyweights for nearly 20 years since Tyson was at these peak since Lennox Lewis fought all the time and since event Holyfield to read it both booked themselves to a standstill those fights were in 929394 my southerly route while doing few of the American public went high up well they obviously knocked off in Lancashire but I went This is so we fancy a bit of this and they pull into it and if that fight had been might water and fury of the rematch had been a night for what we expected or my like we might be fooled about it I'm convinced that would have changed the box in landscape my I'm convinced of it absolutely convinced and with each of these announcements with a shift passing announcements will in a meant the possibility that the great error that way for cost might not actually happen because they're going down these parallel roads and all earning a lot of money on those individual roads and we might not get to say the fights that we were so much hoping for there's been disappointment each time the opponents have been announced and that's going to happen because we want to see Joshua versus while the Joshua versus fury or Wilder versus hearing we want to see the combinations and the permutations but I think there was particular disappoint us to even the announcement at the weekend for the opponent for Tyson Thierry who's the little known German to. Sports 24 unbeaten in 24 fights but with little really to recommend him at the highest level it's a bizarre selection an attorney for one might because the general thinking is you take someone to Las Vegas the old heavyweight capital of the world you take someone there who is not not American and then you bring him an American just like he heard on the bench in the Joshua big baby Miller in New York to bring in an American he helped sell it he helps publicize it he's the guy that the the locals quote unquote can get behind but we've got Thomas Schwartz big Thomas was big low on beats and looks good moves OK nothing special nothing special in his record exam beaten so that takes expose a box the fact that he's got it you know he's got a 6 pack that looks good he's 17 and a half stone 6 foot 6 that that looks good but he is out of his depth here Mike you know and the only reason that I think he might work and I'm going to say might work is that I have a feeling that Tyson Fury from talking to him last weekend up in Leicester I think he might fancy getting hold of him and he's entitled to it why again all of bombing jumping on him and finishing it quicker make it look good and exciting the millions watching and also the fountains that will travel out to Las Vegas that it's almost a Mack center and toss in fury owes it to those fans Mike because he's been speaking to traffic for it since he last 9 stone let's get that right he's completely turned around the way the public have received him perceive the robber and receive them. 18 months ago he was ties and you know a lot of time from now people love him he's undoubtedly the people's champion of all of boxers we've got in this in Great Britain at the moment and part of that comes from that brilliant fight and then come back in the 15th round against the old who all a part of it comes from a year of brilliant flawless not putting a foot wrong pretty are what he's put a foot wrong here with this opponent now he's going to show to those traveling founds 810000 of them go he's got to show to what he's been promising them he's going to get over this kid because I could just toss in fury on a public No but he's got to perform for the public Mike because the public love him so he's really on the pressure here and I think in that sense shorts won't be ideal because he'll be back shorts up a bishop baffle white and get him out there and send about $12000.00 Brits out into that warm starry night with the lights of the strip 2 miles off they can feel him flood the balls and have a great sign that's me being really positive he said he will be warm on June the 15th but I think in terms of Tyson Fury and what he brings to the ring stay the difficulty against how much force might be that Fury's best wins most impressive wins have been when he's not only firing opponents who are coming to him on the biggest stage against the likes of LA to make Let's go and he did it also against the Ontario while the Although he didn't get the win on that night in December where I disagree with you Steve is the Knesset see to have an American in the opposite corner I get what you're saying about showcasing and getting the locals behind them but I do remember being in Atlantic City when Carl Froch force against onto a war that night and working as Marco commentator alongside me on 5 Live was poorly mounted Nancy and he was talking about Andre Ward having come across himself from the west coast from his training base his home in Oakland California over to Atlantic City on the eastern seaboard and he said that they won't be that much American fervor for him you know from coast to coast you know there's a huge difference in sports fans are into so I'm not so fast about. Being an American I'm fussed about the quality of the opponent and given the measure against expectations of what we hope for with fury versus Wall the 2 and now we've got Thomas Schwartz and I've looked at the German in action and sometimes he fights as if he's boxing in slow motion so Shiri he's not going to have any problems in terms of reading him and also he doesn't move his head which is a kind of characteristic of some of the very best German boxes the Armenian German art or Abraham former super middleweight world champion middleweight world champion who was beaten by call for each in the past has another example of that where they just don't move their heads it's almost as if they've been banned from moving their heads in for me this sports character would be would have been the perfect opponent for Tyson Fury before Dion while that last year when he fought the Italian Francesco pian etter in Belfast in August for his in the end last warm up fight before the Ontario all that this is the kind of opponent Tom Schwartz that would have been perfect on that occasion not after the aunt while the all the excitement that we had at the Staples Center in Los Angeles back in December my I can't disagree with with any of that whatsoever the only thing I would throw in my is if we hadn't left Los Angeles with the promise the secured promise the almost signed and sealed in blood sweat and tears promise that we would see a rematch a wall of fury and had we not gone fruity entire December the entire January and free weeks of February waiting for the announcement of Wilder and fury if that fire had not been a possibility if we'd been told in Los Angeles while it was going down this coast will revisit this in my I pull of 2020 would still be disappointed I think with SCHWARTZ But I think we'd be a little bit more accepting of it we'd still be disappointed Don't get me will be accepted and just pick up on the 1st point you're making now the only American I wanted to see him flat was a loud mouth American and Andre Ward is not a loud mouth America that's that's what I mean. An American I wanted a baby Mila in there screaming and shouting and basically waking up anybody that might have been sleeping in at those Republicans see you know that's the Shannon brick style character my that's the type of American I wanted I didn't want to really brilliant quite American who slipped in or wanted a noisy loud American with his DON'T King used to say brag advice you know a braggart they brag and they said it was Don's favorite word where he had loads of favorite words with most of them you can use in a family show and the contest for the greatest promoter of all time might be between Don't King and Bob Arum maybe Tex Ricard from the pre-war days with Jack Dempsey would be there as well but Bob doesn't get a lot wrong Steve and I just wonder what's in his thinking as as he's building ties and fury in a fight against Holmes force and then he says against another opponent which won't be one of the 2 world champions and he's just for the Ontario all that later this year then with perhaps a world title fight in the early part of next year we're told it's a 5 fight deal the top rank and S.P.N. Alongside them have got with Tyson Fury and I just get the sense that Bob Arum has got it right so often in the past Varia that maybe we just have to just have to allow them some space to build Tyson Fury as a name in the states on what they get 5 or 6 rounds minimal OK because he's not going to catch him you know a bit big tall was looking for a lazy jet Tyson is not going to drop a shot over knock him spark out in the 1st round that's not going to happen I don't think fall short is going to win on points I don't think twice if you're going to win points I know you maybe think is No I think what's going to happen is if shorts doesn't want to commit to is going to be allowed at the be backed up against the ropes by Tyson Fury's very good move very good at maneuvering his feet and then size if you will hit away because Tom Schultz it's a big Thomas wants to muscles is an old style war whole See isn't a guy isn't a guy used to being trapped on the ropes isn't a God It's made across to the sparring partner Britain with some good fathers and no us that knows our top. Not get hit he won't be able to survive he's not a survivor he's not what we used to call an all fashion heavyweight journeyman and that's why to us if you are backing him up and for 5 or 6 or 7 rounds just the idea with tension span for the American heavyweight fan that's when at some point few will leave a catch him of a body shot clip him high or the referee on a corner will cite enough is enough and Mike you know well that's job done and you actually right Bob I am getting closer to 90 Dinny is the 80 been around since promoted Mohammad Ali back in the sixty's is promoted and has has had his finger in every single one of boxing's most delicious pies in the last in that 50 year period he hasn't got it wrong this is not the lip We're standing by 2 fans here not 2 guys in a studio we have a headset on we're disappointed but from a business point of view why I'm going to say it now it makes tremendous sense and in terms of weighing up the risks they have you know there is pain or welter of criticism online for the announcement of each of these 3 opponents friend to me Joshua the answer Wilder and Tyson Fury but as a professional boxer you have to earn the most money while taking little going on every side and that's what these men are doing as a much as the fans are going to be disappointed about it but it's what some of them have said in the past I think is disappointed a lot of fans when they made this convincing noise about who they're going to take on and why they're going to take them on and the legacy they want to leave but in terms of these 3 opponents they say you've got Anthony Joshua against the General Miller you've got the against Dominic Brazil who by the way is his mandatory challenger so he's had little choice once he the it away from the rematch and then you've got Tyson Fury against the German Thomas force how do you rank them 123 I'm going baby Miller is the best of those 3 if they were in a round robin tournament by the minute comes out on top Brazil's a 2nd best shot forces the 3rd best of those 3 upcoming opponents a card disagree with that however I just think that Schwartz in Brazil I think Brazil's maybe. Just in front but not by an awful long way I have a feeling those 2 could fight twice or 3 times and they might split low but if I fancy Brazil a little bit what I like my HIS you manage to keep a straight face when you told me to presume what was wild as mandatory because let me just time travel with you let me just tell you a little bit of Dr Who trip OK educate you about Star Wars last images educate you about Dr Who come inside this is my time capsule we're going to go back 3 weeks when there was going to be a fight between the 2 mandatory the 2 mandatory challenges for Deonte Walters total belt title championship it was Dominic was ill against 1000000000 what that fight was done and dusted you remember every promoter we know what it was tell us they're going to dominate it was it would deliver what a great fun to work out who's the mandatory suddenly W.B.C. Get wind that sizing Fury's not going to fight Walter and dearly and why just cascades It's like easy like he was in an air balloon at 12000 feet and someone opened the doors that see it delayed you might want to try to some of the parachute it's good for you with your lovely and jumped well then didn't know what he was the mandatory as well just for a point point now and you're laughing now but you was and you said of a straight face and told me and Dominic Sawyer and built a wall that will fight his He's he's mandatory challenger dumb and it was it was since when was it a month since it was a superman and the W.B.C. Guys got to give it to go see it said you know what I think Mike because we can we can that was a perfect impersonates in the MO is this eliminates a friend of the show I think we have Brazil number one going at Brazil number one in the W.B.C. Rankings that's a fight actually stave off like to say Tyson Fury against Dillion white later in the year in Delhi and why is is out there waiting looking for opponent big name opponent having turned down supposedly a 1000000 pound per smore than a 1000000 pounds maybe as much as 5000000 pounds according to some reports to take on Anthony Joshua Stadium on April the 13th that date which has now been shelved so time. If you're against Daley and white later in the year would it would work for me as well but Eddie heard earlier this week has been lobbying the W.B.C. And trying to get you to love this toy to get Dillion was nominated as the mandatory who the winner who visit all ends while the i me he's the mandatory champion Dillion what you just gotta love the Alien what he's been fighting eliminate as a final eliminators freeze last I think is the last full flights going back 19 months was the kid ever done rule what does he ever done wrong plot seconds and seconds if you cite a lot and I was getting some for stuff like that get sued for that Mike. Next break a special on the 5 Live boxing with Costello on bonds called cost as we journey back in time to 2001 and they 2 remarkable fights in very different ways between Lennox Lewis and Hassim Rachman Lewis losing the 1st $21.00 of the single biggest shocks in the history of the heavyweight division and winning the rematch in Las Vegas in November of that year we've been talking to the 2 men has a mac man was in London just recently for Frank Warren's Royal Albert Hall bail and Lennox Lewis I've been talking to on the line from one of his homes in Canada and he's been telling me how he writes the current top 3 of Wilder fury and Antony Joshua 3 of them really are on the family which I mean you know I would I would give Tyson Syria good or from edge because of his boxing ability and great because of what he's gone. You know in the bad times were you know obviously he's gained some weight obviously you got. These belts taken away from so he's been through some mental issues and those 2 issues were would really use to be put a man down and put him on his back foot but. Really builds him up shows what kind of character you know you. On the end of some criticism for into criticizing Anthony Joshua's saying he should go to America should give Walter an even split Well what is the situation between you and Anthony Joshua Listen I have nothing against Anthony Joshua you know basically done all I need to do is you know people say that I'm jealous of them how can I be jealous of Amanda hasn't even completed his. Is career yet you know I mean. I said. Mark for other people to follow and you know my mom experienced either read of ready to accomplish my goals already completed my. My career you know I look at myself as fine while I get better and time all my records get better on time. Your show will to yeah absolutely you know there's no way I can be fine again some man must make and his own way in life so you know in the end the history books will speak from itself so nobody can speak for history that hasn't been made yet I know everyone says you can't contain errors but look we love doing it learning so how would do Yahshua wild if you're anything in the era of Lennox Lewis Evander Holyfield I'm ready and he even has a marathon that sort of the era I think put it this way you bring those guys into that area that would be a great on believable era. Plastic era for boxing it would be unbelievable era for the fans to really decide on who the heavyweights are this so many of them in this you know that all have different characters and personalities so you know obviously it would be. You know be one of those things where you know if you're if you put your money on Louis you would win. Surprise surprise and the next lowest ranking himself top of the pile stayed 2 points came to mind there listening to him reflecting back on 2001 we'll be doing next week he was talking about the current era his downfall against How same Rachman proves the shocks do happen and that our opponents can be overlooked and I think it's also worth mentioning that as we complain here and lament the fact that fights are not happening Lennox Lewis against boat never happened back then yeah and also he'd been knocked out by all of it McCall in any of a bigger shock in many ways the Naseem Rackemann shot and the fact that the butterfly didn't happen I would argue to Riddick Bowe against Lennox Lewis was bigger than any of the fights we're talking about him like so you know it's not is a history repeating itself no it's just the box a business doesn't mean it's not a disaster it's just the books in business well the heavyweight division is moving if not in the direction that most of us are most fans want it a stock takes they've a quarter of the way into 2019 with where the biggest names in British boxing ahead tough tests for 2 British fighters up against 2 of the very best pound for pound fighters in the world Amec on Madison Square Garden on April the 20th is up against Terrence Crawford for Crawford's W B O welterweight title and starts as a huge outsider in what might turn out to be Cause last fight yet we've considered come walking away and we felt I think we've advised him to walk away it's an interesting fight this school for the great photos even number one or 2 in the world that would change those even number one or 2 in the world that's a good these 2 opponents off British boxers Americans got the size he's got the game plan can he keep it up for 12 rounds I doubt it but you know what he always goes down and gives a something like and a few days earlier and he Crolla in Los Angeles at the Staples Center where fury and wilder for their magnificent contest just before Christmas he's up against vassal Lama chain Co for the W B O and W B A lightweight titles a lot of the online traffic stave asking the question why on earth is color being given a chance against long. Cofa me any man who's gone 12 rounds twice and a competitive 12 rounds twice against Whalen Ari's is at least worth a challenge now he's going to be in there competing for until until the end but the one thing I want the Gets will launch anchor and I really mean this Mike is how nasty is because he's got that old English Ukrainian voice it sounds almost like a you know it sounds almost like a comedy version of he's nasty he's made on beats and fighters who are much better than crawl or quit so before he stopped them they've quit he's made guys turn their back he's made a limbic champions O.B.O. World champions turn away Mike that's because he's nasty and he hurts and he likes it not looking forward to that night and I hate to say it a reminder next week especially on the 5 boxing with Costello on bonds podcast revisiting Lennox Lewis against Hassim Rocket Man and their 2 memorable fights back in 2001 from digital B.B.C. First we'll start with you Emma OK let's talk about the reason you are running eco hoodie on and I think. That I'm in the sports gear we're raising money and part of the Dimension revolutionaries the beginning of the year we got together as you what where Barbara Windsor was diagnosed and so I'm part of the revolution. Barbara's revolution raiser with along with her husband the wonderful Scott Mitchell And it's about 16 of us over me stand as yet over my standards and partners so we've got the wonderful Adam with Jet Jake Wood Kelly Shirley Natalie Cassidy Jamie Borthwick am I right in saying Barbara's husband also running as well yet he is running and he is just the most wonderful man in in so many ways Barbara has got the best person to be looking after her he's just found a new lease of life during his running when we spoke about it so middle of 2018 he's like I'm not prepared I'm just going around a walk and now I mean I just completed the half half marathon and he's just it's a new lease of life and it's and it's amazing and we're all on a whatsapp group in inspiring each other and I have done this distance today in this time and I didn't feel so good today and and it's just it's a challenge but this is what dementia is really challenge absolutely do you all go out together unfortunately you know a few of us you know I don't live in London so I live out in the sticks so I'm just on my own but actually. I quite like being on my own I get a little bit anxious with the group if I feel as if I couldn't keep up so that does worry me a little bit on the day I know before not just you know who promised to stick together even if we don't stick together You know I just go on guys I'm fine but it's going to be fun it is going to be different and it is going to change on the sidelines is she really proud of you will are She's over the moon she's just so thrilled and we were up to I think 60100000 year plays I'll give you all the details but she's really proud and really really proud of Scott especially so how you feeling about Martha I'm not really a runner a top I did a 5 K. a Couple years ago and then I attempted to do a 10 K. Neighbor I live in it was it was called rum champagne actually And so that was great and said to me anyone actually on the sauce you know that I love that gossip in a great hair another animal life and I did this 10 K. And it was one of the hottest days of the year and it wasn't the beginning it was hilly it was going through sand it was going through every anything you would imagine rain different terrains I thought I was actually going to die and I just got to a halfway mark. I got to do this anymore and then I saw my family that turned up and they were like and so I just kept going and I thought I'd never do it again I've never runnings obviously not my thing it's a shame it's not me and then when this opportunity came. Along many reasons why I want to do it my own cause I lost 2 vascular dementia beginning of last year of slate Dame proper and I'm scared but it's the way you feel coming back even if I've just done 2 miles I'm now feeling like a different person and Pinterest is just full of nutrition I'm honest hip. I mean this is not me a tour but I'm loving it and I just think it's a great escapism is a great way of keeping fit and yes even if it takes me 8 hours on the day I don't care a lot like me Vic I just want to get through it and I just will raise lots of money and you know when you have you hearing about people's stories you know you think this is this is nothing and this you know this is this is a challenge but nothing like what they're having to face every day yet every day yeah yeah so let's bring Alex in am Alex you also were running the laundromat with it but you're in a slightly different position. Than Me and Emma but lo I only areas like this little bit so tell us about your. Running journey is quite interesting yes I've been running full almost 20 years now say I did my 1st math when I was 19 I just want something today between degrees so is doing nothing and I want to change science like thoughts like do you and I got a place in the London Marathon say I did my 1st marathon in 2000 and I've realised I was quite good at it so I kind of went on from there really and I had a bit break from the marathon in had my children and then I went into the out of 02 Americans I miss face then I had this because I needed like you know when you're doing right marathon and you say the 1st thing you say is What time do you want to get you know there's this time pressure when you read racing no matter whether you're a late amateur new you know there's always that question of what time and that becomes quite stressful and I thought you know to help my children I needed my running to be holistic and an escape is imminent CIO chair ultra distance on the trail is that form of escapism that you were talking about you know you're going off right you're saying beautiful places and actually time is irrelevant you need just pay your backpack on and you escape so I've been doing that for 4 years now as the heart but the heart in different ways so anyway this year I decided to go back to London. If years again my cage that was Kate she may fit quite he is happy died and he wasn't very happy about me going into the boat a vote tricks he thought I need to concentrate on the mass and try and get my to my sub 3 time and the day before he passed I managed to get hospital to see him and I promised him that I would go back to London and I promised him that I would get my sub 3 so I finally worked up the courage to do it and so you're 6 weeks time are you feeling about it 6 weeks out well again much the same as both of you you know I think no matter what your what your level is and what your ability it's so hard and it's so mentally hard work and I date I think a lot of my friends think you know when they see me in the school run in my lycra for another run and I think a lot of them think that I'm trusting outgoing I love it this is a good read but you know it's hard work a lot of the time I don't want to do the time I get halfway through and I think I want to be I am with a cup of tea so you know it's hard work say I'm anxious I'm worried because I want to achieve this goal which is you know breaking my 3 hours so yeah I feel much the same as U.T. Sorry during during the marathon in under 3 hours Yeah well can I just like get here you having a rucksack that I can just you know I do I love her yeah maybe I'll piggyback my right you know Mary is going to touch maybe like a skate back I'll get a hold on just hold on without me really you know how to yeah we've got 3 people here with 3 different stories as to why they're doing this and I think every single person there has as you know away from everyone to my fire and. Like everyone's got a story and it was there for a reason and if you're listening and you're you are training as well just remember that everyone there as well as the fellow one is going to change your in every one of the sides that's what I'm hearing about is everyone saying apparently where if I know my being training. I don't know about you with I the music costs or order books but on the day people are saying not to know what I think I should stick to what you know like I are doing it with you here because there might be a time where you know at the beginning you probably want to take in the atmosphere but actually if that's what you're yeasty because music can be very I mean I don't listen to music but that's just me but when I did it does based I bring it way here and have it there because actually when you get to a hard point and actually sometimes the noise in the crowds can sometimes be a bit too much especially like you know what you said resonated with me because you restraining when you're in the city and that's what I'm used to as well especially without your running and 7 I did reading half yesterday and there were crowds and there was music and I was still dry. For me it was like overwhelming Yeah it was like This is just too much for me you know no matter what your ads you know you have this in a monologue of saying this I need to buy had yesterday halfway I was like I'm hurting Condie this and they other side is going neighbor come on dismount and how good you're going to feel when you get this like that constant music could distract you I'm sorry please use just because I'm thinking why do I get these voices and my head when I'm running is going to go door to save your side that I forgot about you know you're going to do all of this if. So have you been doing any other sort of training to support your well you mentioned you've had a bit of an injury. Being like oh it's just really miserable but I have actually been doing pole lattes again I wish I started that years ago it's brilliant great strength training when I'm not really a fan of the gym I feel a little bit uncomfortable in my local gym it's mostly men doing the whites there and I just have a wally it can be intimidating and plot is a great place to start reform or yeah I was like my goodness you're hardly moving and I now call it war because I'm leaving. Yeah I'm loving it I'm really loving that so I didn't realize again everything that's involved with just putting one foot in front of the other the strength training part of it the nutrition part of it you know I was like I was getting out of bed and going straight for Ron and some guys just not feeling it and then somebody said why don't you have some porridge. Maybe with a bit of peanut butter or something and go about 45 minutes after not leave it to I thought always could leave you can eat 2 hours before anything like that you guessed it yeah or this sort of stuff and I had this bowl of porridge while I was away and Alex what do you do you. Run and run and run and run but you also do other things as well yes a i basically the only other thing I do strength and conditioning actually is quite lax after I had my children I just ran and everything worked really well I was lucky I didn't get injured so I thought you know getting away with this is great but actually as I sort of reached my late late thirty's and my training has actually increased again I realized I needed to get back and start because actually when you're running you think about say your entire body weight is taken on one leg time so you need a lot of strength to hold that body together say year or year and a half a day I saw back in the gym strength and conditioning twice a week and that has made such a difference. And the mission thing can dishing point if you as a passenger train we do is recommend. Training Steria chain and Gore Yeah yeah pretty much all over definitely work on you Glee 100 somewhere and try not to focus on having all the exercises with both legs and doing a lot of unilateral work so say like things like that way you Baron a lot of weight on to one side and then on the other just because if you have imbalances and you know how to help them out by doing double leg work so Alex with 6 weeks to go until the marathon what kind of point. Should we kind of be with our training we should be sort of in our so venturing into us opiate phase of our training now looking at probably next week staying a longest run how long should one run before the marathon it's so individual that it's pension a few decades of elite run if you like even some of the top and runners will go past the marathon distance in their training whereas you name a stud say would probably go out to about 20 miles but actually you know it's more important so if you look at time rather than looking at you know sort of probably a few years ago a T. Training plan to say right your longest run is 18 miles or 20 miles was actually is more important not to look at sort of time on feet in a say maybe saying Write your longest run is going to be 3 and a half hours and just seeing how far you get and yeah exactly and a lot of people to freak out about that Unix especially for slightly slower you'd say right we're 3 and a half hours I mean a covering 17 miles you know but I've got another X. Amount to guy is really important because you don't want to overdo it if it's going to take you for 4 and a half hours to run 23 miles you don't really want to be doing that for math and because of fatigue you'll have after that it's going to your long time to recover to really looking at time when you feel rather than sort of mileage is more important really and I want you thinking I mean there are 0 mm what I was going to actually ask is Is it true when they say oh well look if you can run 10 miles you can easily do 14 or 15 Is that true because you know even if I want I think a lot of us really wanted to get up to it definitely the half marathon Yes we know we're not none of us have trad long enough to train I mean really we only found out about this before Christmas Day and overwhelm yourself with thinking I have to run this whole thing actually if you start out from the beginning say right I'll run for 10 minutes walk of 5 run for 15 I'll break it down to Miles day I run for Team walk for half you know it actually be consistent from the beginning because some people you know we seem people to like 5 hour marathons by doing wrong Mork went out to be consistent big. is you know you can run and them will come a cover them run but if you're consistent from the beginning rather than running is far as you catch oh i'm done and you don't use any better record yourself out t. Much by thinking i have to have to have to run because you were danish for a different really yes we'll and you know you're actually that's quiet get to tech mean today but is definitely going an hour what's up marathon run his group but by lesson discuss fueling a mattress and and because you mention this alley about you bowl of porridge and i what of the changes have you made to to a what if you noticed have been beneficial for your runs on just hungry all the tar was say yes so i'm eating a lot more i'm actually being a lot more sensible and and in cutting our all the n't nor 2 things that i saw enjoy chips of his lee in chocolat and outcall so i am during and i am sort of you know being so of quite careful you know of found you know a new love of fish there and veges trying to 8 to clain unlike as i do you know just trying to follow you know everybody's tips in what they put on in you know us of copping copping them reeling alec stewart nutrition a son it's a i'm a diet it out ious that i was right and this is the best of all cost feared have been a added us bead of hanoi so you tell us from a professional perspective what's well are kind of key things to think about a when your training and prepping empty key for ray state the the manky is it doesn't have to be complicated a lot of people think you know a well i'm starting to ron of starting to train and you sudden you have to have this massive crazy eva whole if your dire in the aid cutting things out adding things in but actually even making small changes will make a difference you don't have to gates the extreme of cutting out all your chips cutting out where your choke clear cutting out will yacov you know her her own make you can have your cake and eat it it here really you but it is really really important because you know training from are thin is hard enough but any feel suddenly taking the joy out i fake taking all All the other things out that you love and I She did give you enjoyment then there's just not a lot of fun to any of it is that and you know it's about just being sensible and actually I would say just bringing your feet back to basics 3 meals a day making sure having lots of free Nevada making sure you're having carbs carbs are our friends are not bad for you but just making sure you're having the right card yes they will I mean right timing so things like yeah I'll likely whole grain you know a slow release carbs say you know your brown rice is your whole grain bread Taytay is great for your meals but also is run is actually a refined carbohydrates are really important as well the bagel Yeah they're on the G.I. Scale right up there why say after a long run free or any run you come back in your blood sugar levels are going to be so actually what we want to do is go up much of levels up against something like you know a sort of a bagel and some jam or a bagel in a banana is going to get your shit sugar levels back up to where they want to be you know even a flapjack or you know a cereal bar well peeping ocean between them but actually they have their time in their place I think it's really interesting how we've spoken about what to eat before but it is just as important off the train as well as in it so your body can recover for your next run for particular during the training period prior there's a bit of a misconception with recovery in that people always think the decision is they finish they have to be necking down a protein J.S. Within half an hour finishing and that's them done but actually you know any really that the real top one is trying to I say day you know mace of us train once a days therefore most of us have 24 hours at least to recover and get the nutrition and the main aims of recovery is sort of getting the muscle glycogen levels up so that's our our body still is our carbohydrate and its muscles and liver and of the when you do a long run or if you do a heart session then they feel stored down so we get the best out of your next performance you want to be starting with a full. Fuel tank so you want to be having some carbon Hi Jane of a surprise teen Witch of the house so that's about up Taishan repair but you don't have to do it seen as you finish just so long as within an hour of finishing you are having you know either a proper meal with carbs and protein or even like a banana also a car but yeah toss of milk OK And what do you think about sports drinks so I do sports drinks 1st we'll find out what sports from that Martha needing to make sure you're used to it so that means that you don't have to be carrying a hydration pack we can just rely on the checkpoints gels it was a very good because it's instant energy say you know find a gel that agrees with all the different brands are very very different say you make a selection of jealousy was from what's fear and stop practicing with them in your long runs and I are also yes yes chafing obvious told some of those about using for having to a bit of S.L.A. Not her in some cases not have vessel enough and how white men were leading her to . Go see we were sports bras in men's with the vast swell care a lot of chafed it's not a flaw in the nose some people shave quite badly as a really bad like thigh chafe after the half of the night it was so painful it's really it can be very very painful so you either Vaseline or you can get some lift off the various different brands but Vaseline might be keep some as on bag then but to be honest you might not feel it was you running a lot of time you feel when you get in the shower in your life. So Amber have you got a plan for the race to the OK I just think Luckily we're all together we're going to stick together hopefully and just just take it all in and just enjoy it and that's that's the thing I worry I really want to be smiling and I want to be crying I will probably at the end because I just be so emotional because it's just the reason we're doing it is is it is. All about dementia and I think this is going to be so overwhelming and I think everybody I've spoken to have either done it or been a supporter on the day to say it's just the most amazing experience and I just the I'm so lucky in that respect and just think you know people that I'm going to be thinking about while staying is Barbara my uncle in and possibly an alcoholic beverage at the end lead that's what's going to keep me going. I think race day you know the money from Earth and just try to keep to what you know I and you know how you're getting to the math in you know and you've got a plan in place because you really don't want any sort of unknown in a things coming your way so once you've done the marathon How do you go about kind of stretching and cooling down and warming down and making sure that you can walk the next day in all honesty you know you've got to expect for the next few days you know even after my half yesterday you know I'm staying if my fee if it saw you know I feeling a bit grotty and yes it's frustrating but you've got to give your time your body time to recover you can't expect to do that and wake up the next morning and feel like a spring chicken so it's about just getting your body moving maybe having a massage that does of help you know they can with a sports massage and just you know don't rush back you know you've just run 26 miles you know it's just important hydration is really important you know that is one thing you know make sure that you have a good drink when you finish not necessarily alcoholic you know I've been told before that it's a case of not necessarily just gulping down 2 liters of water and go it's all about like slowly settling in keep it in throughout to because if you drink too much it was literally gay straight 3 sometimes molecular lights can help that absorption to have a drink and then just drink little and often so. Do you feel reassured and ready to run the London Marathon 100 percent I think this is the best thing that I could have done today because I was getting a little bit. Scared and a little bit anxious and a little bit. Here worried and doubting myself but now I just feel so encouraged in so many easing to have met you and I and just talking to you go isn't just yeah just being able to speak about it and getting you know nothing and it's been great yeah. Yeah I'm still feeling quite like a high worried ball I'm feeling a bit more excited and I think I'm just looking forward to the less fit and get it all right ladies you have both been pretty and am aware can we find and follow your journey and support your call Thank you so much please do because actually there isn't a current cure for dementia so we're trying to raise as much money as we can say if you want to head to dementia Revolution dot org And you can see our page for Barbara's revolutionaries and ladies once again thank you so much I really feel like we covered a whole breadth of topics that are under the mathematics so much talk about if you want to chat more about anything we have talked about today you can get in touch with 5 Live or us the go games on social media make sure he's the hash tag list or you can e-mail us at bit I'm failing at B.B.C.
