Radio Scotland It's 8 minutes past 5 a scathing report has been published into the way the body which oversees Police Scotland handles complaints against officers and staff then the parent police investigations and review commissioner or perk says there were a number of deficiencies including the length of time taken to conclude complaints or Home Affairs Correspondent evil Alderson joins me now there's been a lot of headline talk recently about the chief constable and a number of other senior officers being investigated but to be clear this report refers to earlier completed doesn't it as it is ordered or will be admitted can present evidence because I think on the 3rd you got trouble with your line let me just see if we can go I will come back to you if you don't mind the vice president of Liberia Joseph blackeye has conceded the presidential runoff election to the former football star George Weah the move eases the way towards the country's 1st democratic democratic transition of power in more than 70 years Mr Booker made the announcement in front of supporters in Monrovia a wire gold I call him Brown's new joint mine and we're on the corner you can vote on parity through Congress really. I. Mean there in the Prudential countries Well it brought him I'll Buckley a new political analyst based in Liberia enjoys as a no you bring him was this entirely surprising or was it expected. For him I just yes I wonder what the response to the selection has been has it been expected or it was a surprise to the electorate what the surprise is the rule of law has been followed religiously and. Conduct. That in the election conducted done so peacefully judge was fixture is not much of a surprise because he was he led the votes in the 1st round of the election and so he was already tipped to be the winner and a block a company was fragmented you know on a functional bottle within his count he did for most of the. Outgoing president President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and Mr Walker and but just your party judgment. Sure they had a functional battle in going on which completely disorganized. What abut Mr we what was he promising the electorate Well we I was promising change and throughout the campaign wasn't very clear until recently he said he was going to revive the economy to our cultural production and my eyes you find employment but we are still watching what he did years of his political programs that surely a good sign that the handover appears to be peaceful because so often we hear of unrest and sometimes even coup attempts in countries when when the incumbent so defeated. Yes this is the 1st time this has happened in over 'd 70 years in our country and again also does is the 1st time since we've been having more to the elections for the Lucent thought it will congratulate the widow of the election and said we have conceded it and we are prepared to join you develop our country and move our people forward in a state of development does is unprecedented in Liberia so just somewhat. By calling his supporters and 11 oclock a concession on a concession speech made history what will be the legacy of Miss Johnson Sirleaf be will she be remembered as a president well modestly this credited for working towards stability as this site and for restoring the Contras credibility brought reprint in Liberia brought us a council feast she monies to encourage international to come to Liberia and participate in the initial development you remember before 2003 like to go as a pariah and she works hard all day long with the United Nations and other development developing organizations really Brenda's country and the people to see this country as a function a member of the international community but also the idea what challenges and she's also criticized for not fighting corruption keep members of a fund key members of the government implicated in numerous reports for corruption and most of them were never prosecuted and investigations against them were never conclusive even him Buckey in Libya thank you very much. Now let's go back to our Home Affairs Correspondent riddle Alderson and reveal you were telling us about this report on the part the police investigations and review commissioner has been quite scathing but it's not really these most recent problems the chief constable and other senior officers know it was a review of the an s.p.s. Discourse police or for his complaint handling processes which was carried out between 2015 and March of this year so a predates by several months the complaints made against Chief Constable Phil Gomery who is now in special leave granted by the Scottish police authority and also several senior officers 4 of them who are suspended and were suspended that was the end of this year. Of all of which all of whom are facing investigations into possible allegations of gross misconduct so but the perk the police investigations and review commissioner must carry out a review of the complaint how to proceed just to make sure that everything is being carried out correctly and above board and that in fact the 3rd audit of the complaint handling procedures since the spirit was set up in 2030 and so may have been looking at them on a regular basis and this this this as you said in the introduction has been a really scary thing report which has said that there are. A number of problems and laid out a number of recommendations to talk us through the findings that. Well. It's a very lengthy report but I suppose in in essence they talk about how Complaints Investigation of complaints took excessive and disproportionate length of time to conclude and it also says that when decisions were made they lacked clarity and transparency now a lack of transparency has been a bit of a a light motif for the s.b.a. In recent months. Surrounding the resignation of the former chair of the s.p. Am to finally going to his replacement bar Susan Deacon so. As you dig into this report you look at the way in which the investigations were carried out against senior officers b. And they have investigated some complaints which are now with their remit and they have not dealt properly with other complaints now just to bring you. To give you a little bit of a handle on why this report is important the s.p. a Must look at any complaints made against police officers or indeed members of the police staff during the course of the course of their duty what they can then do is a number of things they can dismiss the complaint they can look at. The possibility of criminal proceedings and they would hand papers over to the crown of his or they can handed over to the to investigate particularly if it is a senior officer and there's the allegation of gross misconduct so it is absolutely vital that this complaint Huntly procedure is above board is transparent and percs as it is and any response from the Scottish police authority. Yes the s.p. a Have made a very brief statement Susan Deacon the new chief who came in just a few weeks ago said that. Some of the points raised in the report were already being dealt with and and and others. Have been implemented. And she has said again that she wants to have transparency in all of the dealings of the s.b.a. Something which as I said is has been lacking or has been a criticism that has been lacking in recent months what about the timing of this publication it's the Friday before Hogmanay is getting justice along in a festive Pedia children make it a thing of the. Well the was a famous former b.b.c. Journalist who talked about a good time to Bali bad news. I'm I couldn't comment on that I think what we what we have is is a report that the perk said that it would get out before the end of the year when my goodness it's squeezed into the bar by doing so does it mean to say that the criticism will go unnoticed I suspect it won't I suspect that those people who are critical of the s.p. a And have been critical of the way in which the police service more generally have been working will be holding this in in readiness. I would imagine it will be proved I mean the thing for them in the forthcoming weeks reveal Alderson are home affairs correspondent thank you. Nice try on b.b.c. Radio Scotland the headlines at 18 minutes past 5 a police force Talk has released a damning report on the Scottish police authorities complaints handling system 2 men have appeared in court in central London accused of plotting to build a bomb in the days before Christmas and there's a warning for ice across much of Scotland until tomorrow morning after widespread snow fall costs chattel destruction. Researchers at Glasgow University of save the leg of a dog using a new technique to grow bones in the laboratory the dog named Eva would have heard her entire leg amputated would it not for a novel method of treating bone the treatment on Eva is a world 1st the vet to carried out the procedure William Marshall was delighted with the result what was remarkable was how quickly the bone healed so we actually just a few weeks after surgery and the bone was healed she's done very well I mean she's not she's not paraphase you know the bone has healed there's no doubt about that but we're very pleased that she's been able to keep her legs she's done extremely well Professor dull be as one of the 2 scientists who developed the technique even was it is not to chase a fox across a road the Fox made to cross and she didn't and so was hit by a car air she's resent treated their cries go small animal hospital several times with different kinds of treatments hoping to fix the the break that occurred in her 4 leg. But it got infected great quick fix the surgeons tried 3 or 4 different techniques over about 12 months and eventually decide they're going to amputate her leg however we've been in discussion with the surgeons about some of our technologies and we decided that one of these was ready for go especially because the alternative was her losing her leg and so what is actually involved Ok Well we've got 2 technologies and one of these technologies is used in Eva and this is what we describe as a senator or gee it's a technology or use material to tell Eva cells what to do and this is a plastic that we fit around a kind of filling granules so we surgeons use filling granules a lot to fill defects in bone holes in bone but they tend to be numbed by act if they don't do anything for the cells are just a filler but we put on these plastic then we cut the plastic in growth factors now these very powerful biological. It kills and these supports our generation growth and development but should also be to underpin our generation but if they used the wrong dose in too high doses is typically done with Go fetch technologies you can have off talked effects like bone growing in the wrong places or even cancer. What the pop plastic does is it holds the growth factors at a very low concentration and holds them in place in a horseman a way that cells know how to exploit and that's how we can use its very low safe concentration so that's a term as it went into reverse and within 6 weeks her legged fully regenerated new bone extraordinary result by the look of it were you surprised shocked. Not surprised or shocked we believed until very happy delighted and could say and this is gives us encouragement to move towards people this entity was clearly a big one for the dog what particular born injuries will this technology be useful for is it where there's a a big fracture with the ends are far apart is that the sort of thing we're looking at Yeah so these are big gaps in bone. So for example in car accidents survivorship is on the increase but traumatic injury resulting is also on the increase so we survive but were injured but specifically for us we're partnered with the chart and find a better way charity who are interested in civilian landmines survivors there and the injury we're really focused on is stumpy longer Asian So if you have an above the knee amputation and you have enough stone then you can fit a police and you can have a reason of a good quality of life if your stamp is too short above the knee then you can't fit a police and you wheelchair bound and this has implications for your quality of life and also your length of life and what you can do so if we can provide for 5 centimeters of bone then we can help people weapons leases and have a very good quality of life so this is our ultimate goal and do you think that will be fairly easy to do with this technology as you say it's quite and important to get the right amount of the growth factor in it isn't it so is this something that can be done in countries where people are a lot of land mines victims. Well it's one of the great things about the technology it's very adaptable there is a very simple system to use it can be put on pretty much any material so the moment looking at 3 d. Printing but there is another critical step that I should very briefly explain and that's our 2nd technology which is the cell of technology with even the gap was 2 centimeters we need bigger gaps and so materials alone can't do that and good thoughts and come to do that we have to have cells so developed a technology called not a kicking which vibrates the cells by 3041 a meters a 1000 times a 2nd and tells them to turn to bone cells and soon put these 2 technologies together and then we can start to address really big boat injuries like these for $0.05 me to bits of bone we wanted and. So it even the technology went into and or if they happened in in inside of a he would want to put the cells on outside of the the blast injury survivor so would 3 d. Printed on the top comically correct shape would coach with energy put the cells on and then put them into the patient but think about how to try to move them to the countries that are affected by a lot more surgeries top of our list of things we've got to really concentrate on those professor of Glasgow University this Tuesday join legendary songwriter Rob Norks on a journey of recovering the voice. At the heart of the healing process following his own cancer diagnosis rather explores the healing powers of music achieved this Keven music and song really helped me to get through the hellish treatment he hears the experiences of friends in the industry there's this amazing response to pain that comes to creativity and investigates the benefits that music can bring to music stimulus 2 things here the body this reaching the cops the other things can grab notes is the Power of Music Tuesday from 5 on b.b.c. Government says it's stepping up its commitment to to tackling the threat of landmines around the globe they haven't as they'll much the record breaking sun rays through a b.b.c. Appeal back in September it comes some 20 years on from the moment Princess Diana brought the issue of land mines in Angola to the world's attention and it's also something that her son Prince Harry has taken to his heart speaking out earlier this year in support of the campaign to rid the world of landmines by 2025 the attention my mother brought to this issue wasn't universally popular Some believe she had stepped over the line into the arena of political campaigning before her this this wasn't about politics it was about people. She was an advocate for all those who she felt needed her voice most Alister but the u.k. Minister for international development spoke to b.b.c. Radio Scotland earlier today it is a huge problem that's why this year the government debt tripled it work in relation to clearing land mines at the event which Prince Harry spoke and today we're announcing the latest tranche of that support by the increasing matching the successful appeal by Mines Advisory Group Shaun Sutton is a spokesperson for the Mines Advisory Group you heard refer to there they'll be getting this money towards me no good evening good evening so where will the money be spent for the match money from the u.k. Government will go to Angola where money is desperately needed for mine clearance. Has suffered from an 86 percent drop in funding for the mining over the last few years so also as Harry talked about with Angola and his mother who brought the country to the world's attention on this issue we owe it to Angola to get the job done every day people are living in fear and we feel that that's not right and that's what the people was focused on so it's really good news today and that money will make a huge difference to the teams on the ground but Angle is not the only part of the world that's got a real mine problem is that I'm in lots of places in the Middle East for instance some have a big legacy of mines. Absolutely and the teams that are working across the region they are in Iraq has been particularly acute where as areas were safe from fighting people then starts to return home most people subsistence farmers and most of them knew that there was danger but had no choice in this place for so long they were desperate to go home and the cows the rates have been absolutely extraordinary and her effect on our teams are clearing through the villages as we speak and have made a huge impact why does it take so long. Well it's relative it's there's a lot of it depends how what resources you have as to how long it takes but one example is is one village called to the bound on just outside Moscow. About. Sorry I was being interrupted there. The in that village it took us 3 months for 2 teams to clear it and now 520 families have been able to return in that village they've been 10 deaths and 5 accidents before our teams got there so that gives you some idea of the time and the impact that our work can have but it's literally difficult and time consuming is that partly due to the nature of these anti-personnel mines the really difficult to find supply small bits of plastic isn't really. Yeah they varies different areas different places they have different kinds of of items and you need different technologies. Depending on the risk and the type of of items to make the area safe and it's essential that the area is 100 percent south so we divide the areas on the risk and different technologies to deal with those different levels of risk but it does take time and it takes a lot of skill and experience. And bravery of our staff as well as the range of machines and dogs to good effect in countries like Iraq and the but the work really is not insurmountable more than I think 30 countries now been cleared of landmines and the number of governments of by 162 the now a new strength as joins us now 163 governments that have that have signed the artery treaty also committed to make the world free of landmines by 2025 and Prince Harry has helped raise awareness of these facts and also hold governments to account so we delighted that the British government has stepped up and announced not just this supports with a matching our appeal but also travelling of government aid funding through defeat to help us make the world free of landmines and if other governments step up as well we really can achieve this so on something from the Mines Advisory Group thanks very much. The winter weather is to turn to parts of Scotland it's been making life tricky for travelers and pedestrians in Lanarkshire the number of patients treated for broken or dislocated wrists ankles and hips has nearly trebled Juta the recent icy conditions I've been speaking to consultant orthopedic surgeon and a McDonald's from Wishaw General Hospital I have never ever seen anything quite like the volume of trauma that we had and over the last couple of weeks was absolutely unprecedented I think it was a combination of snow how it melted a little bit and then it just formed a lot of ice on the pavement and nothing can quite treacherous it must have been 3 times as much as we would normally get and at this time of year and we're normally quite busy this the year of course but what was the pattern then of injury usually we find that most people that get fractures are elderly and frail people but we find that a lot of the patients this time were a little bit younger. The types of fractures that people were getting were quite severe so bones broken into a number of pieces and those operations to keep you know quite a lot longer than we would normally expect so yes so an increase in the volume of it and and the severity of the injuries and what were the patients themselves telling you about whoa they came upon the king by their injuries it was a case of being taken by surprise by the ice and snow. A lot of people didn't realize quite how treacherous the conditions where and. You know they just they fell a lot of people even you know said that they were falling to take in and you know step and I say the front door the ice was quite difficult to see and a lot of people didn't even realize it was likely what it all is that anything that we can do as ordinary members of the public about minimizing the risk of injuries like this you know it's a little bit difficult but I would encourage people who are a little bit more unsteady on their feet you know the elderly and frail people to perhaps try not to to go in these conditions. If they can possibly avoid it I mean obviously they need to go sometimes. I think when it's particularly icy she probably trying to stay indoors of the can I take it that if you are in danger of a fall you you want to be on a soft or good as possible from hard surfaces correct yes a lot of these people were falling very heavily and that's why some of them got quite quite nasty fractures so it wasn't you know it was mainly falls on on our surfaces like concrete pavement What's the impact of this sort of spike in cases was the impact of that on staffing in hospitals. Bring people in the you see a look tomorrow as we knew was going to be busy Well it kind of it took us a little bit by surprise I mean certainly in my department we were quite fortunate that we are fully staffed at the moment but everybody that was involved had to put in a lot of extra effort come in an early Stanley trying to get through the workers as best we can and I think I was on the weekend that cold weather started and it was almost a bit like a bit like a war times but it was everyone was this really cooling together and working extremely well as a teen and it was it was really very impressive and other lessons to be learned I mean obviously the lessons about getting the pavements and all that but from from your perspective as a hospital but to be fair to be fair to the management they actually did provide us with the resources that we need. Didst to do the work. As you probably know all planned surgery was cancelled during that period in order for us to utilize the theaters to do to do Americans who work so that at certain times we had up to 4 even 5 theatres running at the same time doing trauma and that was that was facilitated by the management so they did a good job as well and those people then they know 3 De go home or that are covering it you know or are they still in the in the hospital going through the the process of recovering in the 1st few days afterwards well we knew that the 1st batch of people have gone home knowing of started to come back to the to the clinic but in actual fact because the cold weather has persisted to move out another little cold snap there was we've had another sort of spike in the number of people coming and so there's a fairly significant through to going through our wards at the moment but every once in a great job to get people who most quickly as possible that's under McDonald who's the consultant Orthopedic Surgeon General Hospital. News Dr on b.b.c. Radio Scotland the headlines of 14 minutes to 6 a police watchdog has released a damning report on the Scottish police authorities complaints handling system 2 men have appeared in court in central London accused of plotting to build a bomb in the days before Christmas and there's a warning for ice across much of Scotland until tomorrow morning after widespread snow fall caused charcoal destruction and they are all as friend of us continued with today's atoll but thanks Bill Bell the per conditions will continue special at the moment on the $85.00 pill Choi road especially when Bream or further when she shows as you are saying falling temperatures mean ice will that mean problem on roads across the country overnight and into tomorrow morning 811 Sterling Baloch road snow still falling on the edge of Ngata Harney area east of Glasgow until snow falling and often last with I. Real passengers traveling to and from Scotland face some of the most serious delays in the u.k. According to the consumer group Which says more than $7000000.00 train journeys were held up across Britain last year the chain passengers losing 3600000 hours due to dillies. Transport commentator Christian Wolmar joins me now good evening Christian either $3600000.00 So it's like a huge number of course it's spread over lots of passengers and lots of journeys Yeah I think it's one of those silly the numbers that people try to I grew gate vast number of journeys a journey delays that come up with some city number that doesn't actually be anything very much to anybody look you know loved it to Scotland or. Other parts of southern Britain discovered that's a very long journey on the railways 3 or 4 hours and occasionally there are delays you know only 3.7 percent of the services were between half about 2 hours late Ok So that means 96.3 percent were Ok You know I think this is to be expected on what is a long journey with sometimes treacherous weather conditions you know but sometimes you would hope that they would given it was such a long journey they would be able to make up time. Well they can they actually do make up time that there is a thing called the working timetable which actually allows for a little bit of extra time compared to the published timetable but nevertheless you know if something goes wrong on a long section of track you know that the 400 miles between other than Scotland it is in the virtual inevitable that there will be some delays I mean I've been up and down that and a few times recently I've had no delays or toll and that's the experience of most people I think which kind of has a bit of a vendetta against the railways because they're always banging on about things that I think of all the unfair but isn't it true again and it goes to the foreign real the systems seem to run much more on time if you didn't Germany France is it's very unusual to or Switzerland very unusual to find. Even seconds late. That's not quite true Germany has been experiencing quite a lot of trade to switch to his absolute want before it does have. A very tight away operation so does Japan but you know from spade it's a way they will perform around the same level that we do you know rather well ways is complicated we have the disadvantage of very crowded tracks which means that there's very likely to be no call delays if something goes wrong by and large most people get there on time most of the time you know 96.3 percent according to which his own figures. Get delayed by less than half an hour between London and Scotland I think that's a reasonable record of course it could be improved of course there's problems of the system which is very complicated due to privatization but you know I think which is slightly kind of bang on about something that is not a norm it's concern to most people Ok Christian Wolmar thanks very much to Susan transport commentator. Hold money 1st of all will celebrate its 25th anniversary this year organizers expect 150000 people to enjoy the 3 d. Program which kicks off tomorrow after the street party the main event will be the midnight fireworks display this unit last 9 minutes Lisa Somers has been speaking to the designer and director of the fireworks display to be here in the castle Esplin need they are making the last minute preparations for the fireworks display that's always the centerpiece of Edinburgh's Hawkman nice festival this year it's going to be extended to a 9 minute spectacle all choreographed to music will top the Allawi is the director and the designer for all the fire officials are taking place over the New Year period here in Edinburgh to be on a minute's choreographed music what could possibly go wrong with that but he's going to it's going to be the best show The end result I had hoped when they were certain about. Tell me about the kind of practicalities of organizing something that that has to be choreographed to music that has so many you know possible challenges but the 1st thing that has to be right is the soundtrack and that's the backbone of every single part of musical display so this has been worked on for many months with Knight works and with them and with Don Jones and so we come up with a fantastic soundtrack that gives plenty of opportunity for undulations in the show and for a really intense sort of intro and also really intense for gnarly as well I mean I said it is very much the centerpiece of the New Year celebrations when people study in Princes Street how will they hear the music how will they see the spectacle Well the fireworks are going to speak for themselves and you can't miss those but there are certain sections of Princes Street that are going to have amazing surround sound set ups so the sound will be more intense and more powerful and everything before as well so be a real sort of multisensory experience talk us through some of the logistics because you know we heard that there are impact in terms of 3000 fireworks Yeah takes a team of 14 of us 5 days to set it up that's not counting for the preparation time back at the factory or the design times well about. The actual people on the ground setting it up and then we stripped away within a few hours after midnight so it's a real crack squad and so what sort of stage are we at night because I can see some of the canisters I don't know what you call them lines out ready to the shells ready to go so how do you kind of prep for that final moment it's just a question of loading a huge amount of equipment into into this space getting all fireworks and making sure they're in the right cues and then there's a lot of testing that takes place just to make sure everything will fart exactly the right 2nd is supposed to fire and then we just take it from there for you what is it like as a designer to be here that had more Castle What an incredible space to fire display I mean you've got the you've got the gardens down there you've got the cost up here it is just a perfect place to fight from and of obviously we're talking at this display at midnight being the kind of mean mean $1.00 but there are 7 in total farmers displaced people around by dead by will see over the new year. Yes year there are the 2 displays that are fired as part of the procession on the 30th and then there are the other 5 displays that happen sort of throughout the evening on the 31st going into the 1st and for you what are you looking forward to most about it just being a part of it feeling it and then hearing the rules of crowds as the display finishes we did see earlier the Tim there can be 15000 shots fired into the air that could be about a 1000000 stars and yes sky so let's hope that the weather is good for us and that it is a fantastic Hogmanay here I'm sure will. That search the director of Edinburgh's Hogan a fire was speaking to Lisa Somers it wasn't anything quite like the police on Top Of The Pops you couldn't help but smile and it was just really easy the motif for dead ended in a to do this way to see Brian burnished presents the story of one of Scotland's most inventive bands this guy's voice lifted you up to the plane air to somewhere else he explores the band's legacy we're producers Mike made about Jack and publisher once called us multi down to make it with media and the tragic loss of Connors Martin vocalist Billy Mackenzie how does not send the devastated f I didn't really believe it there's something about Billy the associate story whiteness the from 4 on b.b.c. Video Scotland New York City investigators believe the fire that killed 12 people including 5 children in the Bronx last night was caused by an unattended child playing with a cooker the city's fire commissioner Daniel Nigel spoke to the porter fire marshals I've been here all night trying to determine the cause and they have determined that and we found that this fire started in the kitchen on the 1st floor it started. From a young boy 3 and a half years old playing with the burners on the stove. The fire got started the mother was not aware of it was alerted by the man screaming she exited her apartment with these attire 2 year old and 3 year old and left the door open. So. This fire quickly spread up the stairs. Fire travels up the stairway acted like a chimney Rosie Ted if I was the chief executive of that I'd cross a New York state such as he's been looking after many of the families who made this touches the building it's just incredibly traumatic and sadly we've seen a lot of these fires over the past couple of weeks here in Greater New York with the temperatures dropping and people trying to heat their homes from time to the stakes are made and as in this case that the child who was playing with the stove there's no telling if perhaps they had the stove on for Extra want their whatnot but these things happen and so the Red Cross tries to get to the scene as soon as possible because well the most responders are working on putting out the fire there are many people who are displaced and there are obviously very frightened and they're not sure what to do so when we're on the scene we immediately try to find some a warm place for them in this case we opened up with a part of a reception center where people who were displaced had a place to go to stay warm and then we started to work with the families to actually had lost sadly loved ones and thank God for volunteers who have nothing mental health solitaires who are trained in helping people during this kind of tragedy and so we've been doing a lot of that work as well so it's a combination of providing people with the needed resources working with other agencies for long term support and then again you can share those who are suffering from pre-strike Now that's was eatable of the chief executive of New York's Red Cross. Number of patients contacting a breast cancer charity for online help at the end of the hospital treatment has risen by more than 2 thirds in a year breast cancer cures a 5th of inquired as to the nursing team about the Charland as of moving forward to in March is a clinical nurse specialist with the charity so when women come to the end of a main hospital treatment they. May still have some lingering side effects or lost in side effects from that treatment. There's often the sort of anxieties in the worries about whether the cancer has actually gone whether the treatments been successful will the cunts come back and we know that these it will you know there's real physical issues for some women if they if they're having side effects from treatment still and some real emotional ones as well. And it obviously can be quite a problem and can impact on some his quality of life do sometimes feel as if these should be feeling better you know just the soon as the treatment ends but so then the our feeling I think so yeah we breast cancer care we get a lot of phone calls for help from a woman say I thought I'd be Ok once the treatment was finished Actually I feel not necessary worse but I feel as emotional or I just I just can't stop crying I'm stops there I thought Be Ok and actually to for people to realise that that is actually quite normal warnings very very common and can help them feel better because I think there's something wrong with them because I don't feel better and I do feel still so emotional Why should there have been such a big rise in the demand for help over the last year it's difficult to say for sure we know that lots more women are being successfully treated which is obviously a good thing. We also know that the way follow up in hospitals. And hospital is as changed it used to be quite a reach it seen somebody every 3 months or then every 6 months but quite rightly that changed because there was no evidence that that actually was the best way to follow up with Maine so I thought. Art has changed but I don't think every woman really understands who to contact if they're worried who to contact if they've got a symptom or a side effect. And obviously that's where we step in we come in where Breast Cancer Care comes in we've got not only our helpline but we have dedicated services for people that finish their their main hospital treatment and it's a health and wellbeing event called Moving forward which is actually you know what it says aims to help women move forward off the diagnosis and treatment. Bustin Marci clinical nurse specialist with breast cancer care. It's the real deal $92.00 to $95.00 and each one will be dealing with b.b.c. Radio star.
