December which me. Only 14 more sleeps until the big day of the fall can you believe. I haven't even managed to put my Christmas tree I. Should have done I'm going. To go. Now I always leave it to the last minute every single year. Really silly thinking about it because I think a few weeks ago an old everybody's gift online and that it would have been here now wouldn't be ready to be wrapped in its boxes because presents they are easier to wrap all right getting you home during the travel to soften it every 15 minutes. National looking to ban a lot of the moment it's always going to bit of a queue on the farm or side in the center of Whitney's busy around the Mill Street and noon and many roundabouts I'll tell you what the like of course the rest of us to share at quarter past lovely thank you. At the softer tone in the next 25 minutes. Gloria. That's coming up as well as this one the new one from. This is. Before you decision. Before $430.00 but we will start the show. With the blue rabbit. Including edge Sharon and a Libyan new. Song from a very safe 6 minutes part of this is b.b.c. The. B.b.c. Radio Oxford is nearly 10 past 4 should have a little nosy online and see what's trending shall we see Radio Works for Trending trending the softer noon 1st of all is this man. Or something. With one of his many hit songs that seeing that he's trending because he's been named artist of the Decade by the Official Charts Company today he's had 12 number once across the official singles and albums charts between 201-2098 isn't it a little bit banal as to think that 10 years ago he was busking on the London underground and just so for surfing around some of his mates and now it's just he's on top of everything is like earning hundreds of 1000 pounds but I mean he's just it's amazing things so that's why it's trending and I'd say well deserved as well next research is belief food labeling that says how much exercise people need to do to burn off the calories contained in the product would be an effective way of promoting healthier lifestyles the team from love for university said the measure could cut a person's average daily intake by 200 calories dietitian Nicol a lovely moraine says the approach is too simplistic portrays a message that needs to be off which it doesn't because our bodies naturally burn calories just by just by sitting and secondly it portrays the message that food is simply calories and really there's a massive difference between. 200 calories the vegetables and a 100 calories of it escapes provide a lot of added sugar and a Livia Newton John is trending the softer name that's because the leather jacket she wore in Greece has been given back to the actor by the money bought it from her at an auction for $243000.00 about $195000.00 pounds so the Australian sold the black jacket and other possessions in November with part of the proceeds going to a cancer research center but the anonymous buyer has now handed it back to a very grateful Olivia Newton John saying it should not sit in a billionaire's closet for a country club bragging rights the buyer was seen with his face blurred out in a video as he surprised her with the jacket and a tearful Olivia Newton John who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1980 gave me a huge hug and said it was the most incredibly generous thing to do next we are out on the campaign trail this week as you may have heard on the show some of the candidates hoping for your vote of course let's hear how Labour's policies are going down on the doorsteps of Whitney. So I'm Rosa voter I'm your labor and corporative parliamentary candidate for Whitney what steps to share how have things been going so far. Going really well actually yeah this is this is a grey area for us in which as as you know last year we took control of what the Town Council this is the ward where I'm a councillor twice over both one town and district so it's a really great waters more of an awful lot to support here. People recognise that we work really hard to. Give. Them and you can. Do you have an indication of how you might be voting in this general election Yes And so but I might disappoint you that was I don't know what you're welcome I'm tending towards conservative media why is that it's because of nationally I think maybe mainly economically. I'm more concerned about the labor policies which was tending towards much more towards the left than that I think in the cost us Labor governments have done they are yet we said we certainly believe in social equality and they're all sorts of terrible left things like that how do you feel about the last 10 years of a Conservative government and of course the conservatives in a coalition. I don't know very strong opinions I have a decent job so what I'm in favor of stability. Is this looks like a hopeful one he exists up they've picked stiffly Oh I love you I hear you thank you so I just wanted to say thanks very much for saying the post throughout Ok but we always appreciate your support what makes your lady say to well I come from the east and the Originally it was very hard not to be. You've got to do plus and minus and. Really I mean tours of one huge Minustah but. What are you talking about what I mean who am I talking about. Spat out for me. The food. You can would be me but which is what he is talking about burger joints and just to be clear impossible to. Why do you like him he's not for people is he really lacking. I don't know you know I'm very sure I believe a moment you don't feel you know. You so good more so if he this election's about right and does it you know and you want to remain in the you know we want you want to leave Ok fair enough why that one of the reasons you want to take this off should be if you are able to show you can go. The route taxes are going to play that I'd love to hear how you're going to vote in the general election based on your base a new leaf feelings. Not sure. How. So it's 40 minutes past 4 as we could. Check and watch trending Game of Thrones Caitlin Jenner the Rugby World Cup What is Area 51 how to eat a pineapple what is a dead these phrases and questions that apparently we all search for on Google in 2090 the Rugby World Cup which South Africa won after beating England in the final of course tipped the list of overall trending searches in the u.k. Got a bit of a cure on the farm or saw it in the center of Whitney's busy around the Mill Street noon and many roundabouts was a bit slow from. Botley it's slow in having them both ways on street as usual and on a 415 at the Clifton Hamden lights and column station and folks from Lane has a queue at the wooden junction from Fox come Hill when the cameras are on the action I can see that the Ring Road is slow from just after Maston through to the roundabout and going out of the city traffic would start with the road and bought the road. Bridge London Road and around the mast and lights no major delays on the train through the county at the moment either life in the Control Center Mark Watson. 109. Sees a travel. Radio Oxford Gloria Gaynor 17 minutes past. And I will survive on b.b.c. Radio Oxford right just got 20 past 4 now in and it's gone on b.b.c. Radio. Talk a little catch up with a smile or 3 from family done this is what she said Yes hello how are you alright I'm alright yeah I'm all delivery parcels being delivered at your house for that's . Ok I'm the local male. So yeah we were just having a chat about there so you've literally pretty much all your Christmas shopping online yeah oh yeah we always do I play it. And then we do the sit there and we put on our various devices up. And we just kind of sit there and plough through less. If you're not. Not. From that perspective we haven't got ridiculously much to families or anything like that but that's really had to be yeah we had to kind of organize taking multiple trips prior to Christmas visit people so kind of all that I think I think yeah I think it will take with us something I find a little bit sad because I'm going to probably do all all of mine online I haven't done anything yet so I'll probably sit down at the weekend to go bomb bomb bomb bomb bomb. And there's something quite sad really I think that means that you're not going to do that so when I was a kid you'd walk around Christmas you know you'd see all the lights in the town center of the city center and you'd you know you'd have something Christmassy to drink and you'd buy all the presents and you'd you know how things are and you'd smell things and you can't do any of that when you do it all online I like to I'd love to do it that way still but it's time is just time. For me. I worked in retail for many many. Quite sure that anybody that would agree with me if you work in retail Christmas and then you don't work in retail anymore the last thing you want to do when there is. Christmas yeah go into any physical stop the run up to Christmas talk to stand there and I look at the stuff and I just want to walk around and give them all a big hug and tell them it's going to be Ok and they are actually going to survive because you feel the pain. You know when I used to work in our gas in new and old street in the city center of Oxford this was like Wow must be like 20 years ago nearly and around Christmas time it was an absolute nightmare I was so busy I was in the picking room and when you know when someone used to type in you know the tail a card it would come downstairs like a ticket like they do in Chef kitchens and I'd have to go and find it and put it on the escalator which would then go up to the top and I want to collect and you'd have like 50 to do in about 10 minutes and it was an absolute nightmare around Christmas so I am with you I absolutely I think for anybody who works in retail of Christmas time because you know easy my 1st full time retail job was in a suit shop where the stock room was full fledged the stand up so yeah I was. Right well let's talk about t.v. Because the Christmas t.v. Is all starting to build up and we've had some announcements of some Christmas specials with Gavin and Stacey and the Robbie Williams Not Christmas show I mean there's some great stuff happening you're here to let us know about some of the good things that are on t.v. Before Christmas I suppose building up to it so what have you chosen that we can sit down and watch as a family tonight tonight I have this secret life of the new after Christmas. Are our. Christmas quite frankly absolutely you know I've never been to one in the winter which is a shame really because you know it's not going to make much of a difference apart from you need more clothes I have 7 atmosphere so I can't really know that that doesn't work quite as well. So yeah what. Specific 0 obviously was it looking around a few you know it all based to do and this is focusing on their and their baby animals who are all about to experience every Christmas and I believe they've got. The people who are before Christmas who well have it kind of. Focusing very much on the list please know the animal in the one of the Christmas so you've got the cute factor and the festive factor all rolled into one absolutely I'm sure we're giving them some little festive treats as well I am much would like to. Put insulin. Yeah they were having tried to spend the last week or half stopping my kid in the Christmas tree. I don't think well at least it would make the cat litter trial a bit prettier but if. I'm not taking that right now I don't like what time and this is Channel 4 tonight at 8 o'clock amazing welfare festive watching that we can see like you say the cue animals the cuteness from it as well so yeah I love that and a great family little thing to say Watch thank you for that suggestion Kate and we will speak tomorrow yes we were in an instant b.b.c. Radio. Right getting on George Michael's posthumous release right now little factoid for you he actually originally before they formed at school when you originally volunteered to chew to him in music yeah I didn't know that So here is George Michael this is. Her On b.b.c. Radio Oxford It's 29 minutes past 4 let's get the very latest on the choose roads now b.b.c. Radio Oxford it you'll It's time save the travel. Around the swim for toll bridge and I'm with you at the moment I him Ah yes Roy about a 10 minute queue now from far more to the Swinford toll bridge in the center when he's busy around the Mill Street a newsman he run about as usual is a bit slow from Abingdon. Northward to Botley on the I 34 and from Killington up to the m 40 and the a 40 is starting to slow up between cast into and the engine noise but not as bad as it usually is a bit busy a boundary on rustic Avenue but generally the town centers flowing well slow in Abingdon on the street both ways and on the 415 are the Clifton Hamden lights from column station and Foxconn Lane has a queue at the wooden junction from Fox come hill around Oxford the ring road is slow from just after Bastien through to the walk around about and from Cary to Hayford Hill going out of the city each other used to be quite busy though slow on would stop road Boundary Road sin jars through to Botley road in Thames Street also adding the road Darlington bridge if the road and London road around the Marston lights is busy as well and on long wall street heading towards Morden bridge life in your control center I Mark Watson with your trouble. 109 drivel why on b.b.c. B.b.c. Radio works that. It's going to be made overnight though which is good news it is going to be quite called there with a chance of a little frost by morning tomorrow where all day I'm afraid highs of 7 degrees but some positive here looking ahead to the weekend Saturday looks really nice blue sky lots of sunshine just a little bit chilly my perfect kind of day if you ask me so not too bad at the weekend at the moment it might change but you know so in the next 25 minutes some great songs including. Why not look around and basically why not just disguise maybe pairing a wedding day you yes you know into sports do you play football or you more of a say on the side from what you are used to play and then a few years ago I think it replacement Yeah the grand old age of 32. You know was on the way out now as well on the other side 'd so yeah it pretty much 'd based on the sofa being very. So I mean that's a bit shocking at the age of 32 to have a hip replacement is that because of your sport playing do you think or is it something that probably didn't help but I think it will probably I was born with up normal hit there we go it's good to be different Adam it's good to be different. Already are 10 years older from the neck down having him. Probably yes probably 10 years older from the neck down so you'd like to keep your youthful face functional. Ok would you rather reverse one decision you make every day or be able to stop time for 10 seconds every day I know which one I'd choose. Been quite interesting stock car and we're going to guess. This Well just think of the food you could make of people's plates in that time Terry seconds is a long time where you can really mess around with people. On the far more side in the center of Whitney's beauty around the Middle Street many roundabouts a 40 slow between casting turn and the engine lights slow and I mean done both ways on the street and on the 415 going into town from column and at the Clifton lights from the hand and lights from column station come line that's got a bit of a queue going down the hill from floor to come here to the Wharton junction on the cameras around all should I can see the ring road is slow from just after mastering to walk around about from county to Haven Hill going out of the city traffic is slow and would start road roads and jars through to Bali road in terms street also . Going to Bridge London Road and around the master Now it's also slow going a long long wall street of the city and going into the city at the plane number generator on the train through the county the moment life in your future control center and not what some call your travel news oh wait I weighed 109 cheerful one b.b.c. Radio Oxford telling say the travel. So of course it is the season of goodwill and people are coming up with various innovative ways to help those who are likely to struggle around Christmas time so homes for all Oxford share during that kindness boxes for the 3rd year running Deborah Robson Gray is from the organization joins me now welcome to the show and Good afternoon thank you for coming on to talk about this I mean this is quite close to my heart as well because I've done something similar which I got into it a little bit later but 1st of all tell us about the carnage boxes that you are doing and why. I think I've been we've been trying to sort of the to do a lot of things with homelessness rest capers and generally around the community seeing people struggling in different ways and it was free to show the communities that we can all do something so harnessing good will has been really quite high on our budget agenda and whether that's like you said getting people to volunteer in other sectors and show them a good moment permission to do so in the kindest boxes came from just keep writing about acts of kindness each day and a school that she came forward last year and were very interested and asked me to come along and give a talk to 1200 students about kindness and they wanted to make the boxes and hand them over the mobile Bush School in. Stone like adults so made boxes bursted school so it was a really important message I think for the students to understand to see what they could do and how all of us together. Could harness the good will and you know obviously our main thing was about homelessness but there are many people as you're probably aware in Iraq such as a sofa surfing hidden homeless people in the poverty of a universe credit list goes on but really acts of kindness to one another and it really has sort of spread and the share we've been given the premises the schools have been back and or wanted us to come and collect. The list of organizations that we can learn how individuals families being into Mystic beasts of how to flee and have very little people out of the care system being given accommodation no it's all the acts of kindness so we've had lots of donations throughout the year but the boxes are really some think that it's not just impractical like the good of so one thing I think what I we really feel the message is it's also about hope and one of the ways I think that we have harnessed and I like to put real clear out is the letters the cards and the letters not only the students have done for the last 2 years but she people in our community have written handwritten letters. Giving hope telling them of the past maybe never salience and really encourage them to make better choices you know showing them that there are good people out there and I think at the moment we all need to hear a little bit about No absolutely I mean this is close to my heart because I have a friend who used to be in that situation and used to be harmless sorry about 3 years ago I lived on Great Western Pa King did call and I actually with with that friend had a collection from the est and it was so heartwarming because we posted on the Facebook page fold right western part and said we're going to me here at the green she said if you can bring a box with non-perishables gloves and all the kind of things that homeless people would really need and we had hundreds of people turned out we needed extra calls to go and deliver the we. Them to the polls Paul why skylight and all you have to harness all charities Rob and a it's something that made everybody smile because they were doing something for the people that were less fortunate and it really really is important I guess why should we just do it Christmas time is something we should really be doing all year around when I think we hope for him so have been to and if people see our page we proud donation requests sometimes a piece of furniture some days it might be in a house fire a family I think one of the ones that really stands out for May this year was a family that I'd actually known for 25 years you know not really to sort of stop and get coffee with but you know you see people and there was a reporter there and I recognize that something had happened and you know of course I did 4 years ago even go and embrace give a hug and you know chatting and and Sally got told that Sharon had a matter of weeks to live and was really fearful that. The situation to the daughters would actually be home to some what made even more tragic is that they were actually in university and so they were only going to lose their home but they were actually going to have to give up their education and even though they had a successful succession of their rights to the tenant stay. RINGBACK As you know nothing's ever straightforward and it really meant that we can do next so straight away my daughter and I sort of asked the family for 3 wishes and they kind of looked you know bonkers and said look please for anything. I don't know how we're going to do it but we're going to do something and I just reached out to some amazing people in my community so I could have their story and people just came forward and long story short we got the whole family says 6 children go to London we managed to really amazing farewell party. Family and friends we get cakes too literally that we canned people donated cakes raise money and we've now committed to manage to get the moved on keep the house keep them in education and committed for 18 months to pay their bedroom tax as it will be an empty room so goodwill and prevention of homelessness is a great important. So it's having a can do attitude is being creative think it's actually working in a community setting to understand what's going on at grassroots level but also respectful people are trying to help whether in private sector to you know doing their jobs and how all together we can do something and so the goodwill you're right is that I want to encourage you know last year we've done different shoe boxes I think maybe $400.00 we did last year and we took them to us and we took them out and we saw a lot replication and what I said is would it be lovely if we could do is the lettuce from a really important cards to give people hope that wouldn't be wonderful if we actually started talking about this a lot more and find out what we could actually do and I know the homeless movement which we're part of do in a match so many raised if you give Internet to them they're going to match double you know to give more nuts really process I'm going to talk about this will die. So I don't fry argued for another hour talking about if you want to get in touch with you just literally 5 seconds how can I get in touch with you to how please go onto our Facebook page the homeless homes for stitcher. You have to sort of join in if that makes sense but you know we'll get to that let you on and on Monday the 16th will be in Whitney at the old laughing stock shop and everyone's welcome to come in if you want to bring them in spyware bit encouragement or any bits that we go into a shoe box where they want to come and help or provide donate more if you'd like to know more about how you can help all of us help each other that they want to go are going to go are already sorry we're going to get. I think that I don't you know I have time for the Christmas song but thank you very much for coming on if you do want to fathom all Oxford share and such amazing things that are out there right let's get fast stay for the politics customer called excite applying this now fairy tale of New York that was so silly.
