In a speech in North Hampton the Labor leader Jeremy Corbyn will repeat that he will back a general election as soon as a new deal breaks it at the end of the month is rolled right our political correspondent is Chris Mason the prospects of securing an agreement which would allow the u.k. To leave the European Union with a deal 3 weeks today on October the 1st the 1st looks remote to put it gently and few believe that there's much prospect this could be some sort of major breakthrough at this get together today each side is rejected by the other and the e.u. Summit it's where any deal would have to be signed off well that is a week away Jeremy Hunt former foreign secretary not heard much from him since he was in the leadership race for the Tory party he has written to his former colleagues the foreign ministers urging them to try again talking about the senseless rupture of a no deal back sit but people are now focusing on the next thing how the government might frustrate Parliament's attempts to stop a no deal breaks in a few weeks time and house in the might be a German election 13 alleged members of Britain's biggest ever drug smuggling dieing of been charged with importing cocaine heroin and cannabis worth billions of pints they were arrested in raids across the country in an operation by the National Crime Agency on Tuesday. The I going to medical officer for England has warned that the government is nowhere near achieving its ambitions to have childhood obesity by 2030 say Professor Dame Sally Davies and her final report before stepping dying is calling for bold action arguing that children have the right to be healthy and the impacts of obesity are cruel and avoidable a health editor is he pen name Sally Davis has come up with a radical set of proposals because she says that's what's required if the government is going to get anywhere near its target of having child obesity by 2030 in England the most only catching one is a ban on all food and drink apart from water on local public transport like buses for example she also says you could take the existing sugar Levy and soft drink and extend it to a range of unhealthy foods if the industry hasn't voluntarily cut it sugar content already she says you could have plain packaging for unhealthy food rather like the rules for tobacco So what does the government think of it all well a simple statement saying we'll look at all these proposals but will only act on the basis of evidence suggesting they may need to see a little more work done in this field and whole has become the 1st city in the u.k. To make full fiber broadband available to all its residents the Prime Minister's set a target for 2025 for every home in the u.k. To get full fiber the fastest type of broadband butts in Hull it's a local telecoms company not be tape what has completed the task Here's our technology correspondent royal Catherine Jones for Bob is a kind of gold standard of broadband a very fast as you can get with a fiber optic cable right into your home but just 8 percent of u.k. Who telecoms company kc home once owned by the council has got a monopoly in the city for years bt had a different strategy concentrating on getting a slower form of broadband to most people as quickly as possible they've now switched to that full fiber target Boris Johnson wants every home to have it by 2025 and that seen by most in the industry as pretty ambitious. Head of both the Dutch and Germany boss Michael O'Neill believes in his side's qualities we have a real good structure to the team with you know a very good young goalkeeper with 2 fantastic sound bites we're very experienced in the past holding midfield player and we have a lot of good players around that who have proven themselves to be able to handle the game on the stage and that's where we hopefully will get our believe our confidence from one performance that can get something from the game Scotland travel to Moscow to take on Russia with manager Steve Clarke expecting better from his side. Weather Center very good morning to you Well the weather has been pretty Samy so far this week with one area of low pressure to the north of the u.k. Bringing sunshine in showers to the country most of the showers across western areas now during the 2nd half of the week and into the weekend it looks like the weather will become a bit more complex with new weather fronts of the Atlantic expected to bring more persistent spells of rain in places that could lead to surface water flooding issues and difficult driving conditions particularly for parts of England Wales on Friday and during the weekend so it's probably worth staying chill into the forecasts for the latest updates on this today though we're starting the day off bright with plenty of sunshine around but so through the morning the. The breeze will increase in the southwest as this new low moves in bringing a band of rain and strong winds initially to Northern Ireland and then into Scotland in the far north of England during the afternoon this will lead to stunning water on the roads a lot of spray making for has this driving conditions for the western half of Scotland further south across the rest of England and for Wales and it will sense become cloudy through the day with little rain for Western pass along with some low cloud and particular around hills although some eastern areas will stay dry all together with some sunshine and a few relatively mild with highs around 17 Celsius further north with the wind and the rain temperatures will generally be around the Chines Celsius and then for Friday looks set to be very wet across parts of Wales the Midlands northern England with surface water flooding and possible in places about day in the south but fresh for Scotland and Northern Ireland where they'll be sunshine and blustery showers some of which will be heavy and thundery isolators 5 live whether I'm stopped or else now let's take a look at the front pages this morning many leading with all sorts of headlines to describe the Rai between Coleen Rooney and Rebecca var day the sun laid some what it calls the why group between them done it says Hi The Daily Mail or member introduces a story which is a by the footballers' wives calling wife a former England and Manchester United captain when a monster attack on repack on social media the mirror says Mrs already is inconsolable and a nice selling the story instead she suggests it must have been someone else who had access to her Instagram a kind the Daily Star also late in the why Graw is saying it's all kicked off the paper adds the wives are not war over the lakes it's going up to 515 on 5 life it's 5 to take away just some really pretty. Good morning what can travel do with Thomas Cook shops the others can't the difference with us is that we listen really can't customers want in a surprising move surprising. The travel company pledged to save 2000 jobs by buying 555 former Thomas Cook shops. In the high street but what is needed to make it work on the program launches a military offensive in Syria and President threat to obliterate Turkey's economy will look at what sanctions are on the table and whether tourism will take a hit. On the. New tax plan is aimed at making global companies like technology such as Apple Facebook and Google pay more tax or been published on international economic policy and as wake up to money grapples with finding a way to cover the Rooney Vardy stories through Instagram we'll have a look at what the market is like getting made up tales into the papers some money . We'd also like to hear your thoughts on what on earth we use our smartphones for a couple of big reports at day one from the regulator Ofcom says a quarter of people made less than 5 calls on their phones mobile phones. Didn't that feels a bit like a knock here in the early 2000 fewer than 5 calls a month 6 percent of people not making any calls on them it's all Deloitte saying only a 3rd of 16 to 24 year olds use their smartphone to make calls on a daily basis more than half use it every day to watch videos or live posts chat about this on social media. The response is the a ray of things that people use their phones for and calls didn't even make the top 5 it's quite an incredible how a device can can make a move in relatively short. With the former boss of Charles Stanley and managed to beat him 6 and. But we was in the club ourselves was he pulled out his phone and he looked to lease is always an awful kilometers today. We do it he said I will always cherish them legals of climbed the stairs of walked up aces you know just keep an eye on things as a conversation turn excuses around a Gulf War Yeah yeah yeah it was a bit of a stinging defeat more important good to. Pick keep it up for the wake up to Money team we had Jane get into same calculator receipt scanner there the top people get into hash tag wake up to money on social media if you want to let us know what the main things you using your smartphones for Maria work e-mails Viber with the daughter Claire stalking her son all of this if you want to join the conversation get in touch that let's know your thoughts that we're going to be discussing lots of things that I've got Simon French chief economist Gordon and markets because they Simon Good morning Sean talk to make a top of the list on your list your investments you got clients you must be on your smartphone frak calls all the time surely that's right but there's also a bit of time to decompress try as a long suffering whole city family try and catch up with the highlights are few and far between and they are on body on the results so so that's another ways the smartphones don't get away from the market watching sport was a big one lots of people get in touch with that following the football scores so we'd like your thoughts on that but also love your thoughts about what has travel going to do with Thomas Cook this independent travel agent says this move where they are saying up to 2 and a half 1000 Thomas Cook jobs could be saved after Hayes stepped in to buy it shops give shops in areas where it had little or no presence before saying clued in Scotland Wales John Hayes set up this Sunderland base for 40 years ago said yesterday he hoped the shops would reopen within days it was an emotional day said many staff crying when they were told their jobs were saved this was the moment Gemma a 4. Thomas Cook worker and her colleagues were told the news that their former workplace would be reopening Oh. Ever just got to wait for darkness thought they I've got. My money. We've all got to ring the recruitment line. I want. I mean incredible We're going to go to here work so that on the news yesterday and also. Cheerful news for a change we get so much bad news but it's nice to see be able to save their jobs but when Thomas Cook collapse he put $22000.00 jobs at risk worldwide include no 1000 in the u.k. The acquisition for an undisclosed sum is a significant step for Hayes which has $190.00 shops 1900 staff and last year had sales of $379000000.00 pounds reporting profits of $10000000.00 more than $100.00 new jobs will be placed at the company's Sunderland headquarters with the rest in shops across the u.k. His travel is not like Thomas Cook which owns hotels an airline it's Ok to be more nimble Yeah so have a look a bit lighter in the program as to just how nimble it can be because it's still investing in the High Street where many aren't at the moment great to hear for those high streets around the country the shops will be reopening staying open how they're going to make it work we'd like to know your thoughts as well if if you think they can what do they need today hashtag wake of the money if you'd like to get in touch Rico He's on in Singapore Sean Mickey morning gentleman. There's everyone talking about anything raid or do you want to talk about payphones what you told me you are you just give us an update on on the trade just just very very briefly where are we talking China us and and the goings on there just have a shore up day on that and then we'll get a full weather and rugby report from you being a meteorologist after being a trade expert Well everyone I mean particularly the Chinese assured Micky surprise then. Very upset by this u.s. Blacklisting of Chinese companies and the implementation of visa restrictions which we're talking about yesterday and the Chinese have come out basically saying they're lowering expectations for any significant progress from the trade talks which will begin later today in Washington d.c. With the u.s. Even though President Trump expressed fresh optimism so if there is no significant progress after 2 days of talks on Nicky Trump is set to hike the tariff rate on $250000000000.00 worth of Chinese goods to 30 percent from 25 percent on choose the right and that will surely effect everyone and this is breaking news. From rugby match anyone was swinging for this type panic match yes. Move up and it will not happen no it's going to be called off because of what can you tell us just generally about the weather about the impacts on the World Cup Whatever you might know I have no idea of rugby is one of your long list of sports or north Well it's all because of. This I mean this typhoon is being described as the biggest of the year to hit Japan and it will impact Tokyo and the surrounding area so it's not only the England France match that has been called off I mean you also have New Zealand and Italy. Which will be held in Toyota Japan which will also be cancelled but according to organizers they're all hoping that the Scotland against Japan game will go ahead a splash and on Sunday so unbelievable that a lot of these crucial matches will be cancelled the number tournaments regulations cancelled matches will see both teams awarded 2 points as part of a draw or suppose the difference trying to talk. Is the. Typhon season in which Christ wanted to hold the commission into weren't paid for and storms are the terms used here in Asia we never use the term hurricane hurricane this for the u.s. But it also has the same kind of strength and intensity in oh I did a little bit of research on this called name for this typhoon called innocent Filippi the word is it means snort of the carabao and peak Nort Yes I mean it's everything to me when we started this. Is going to read out a couple of cents here yeah and he knows the definitions of hurricanes and typhoons you know as well as a north of the telephone they usually they usually use the names like Shaw and Mickey recall Yes Typhoon code names I don't know why do you use this it's north of a carol pig. For this particular Ok you need to get all of our Monday or he gets in your knowledge. Thank you more than. He's on he's in Singapore you know it's about everything going on everywhere doesn't mean incredible you know he's Cyclopedia but that will be we're going to be doing Rugby World Cup business special business of sports special So stay tuned it subscribe to the podcast if you want to make sure that pops up in your fate will be discussing it more tomorrow so clearly this impacted the weather is going to have a bit of a knock on effect as well and into the running of everything that already seen some people tweet in the you know that they're planning on maybe going to the England France game and they're off on holiday to Thailand instead for a few days have a little break there and then come back to tough loss is really tough Speaking of which markets market shares have a chat with Sharman French now about what's going around saw him in the tax thing is emerging I mean this rumbles on a bit of bricks it doesn't it big technology companies to pay more tax and this. Time it's a suggestion from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. Which mean big companies play more tanks where they sell their products and make profits and it's possible that multinational companies could be liable for tax in places where they have no physical presence as the Internet stamped all over it doesn't it it does it's an attempt to try and ensure that the big digital dry and sewer able to move their revenues around the world often to the lowest tax rates dictionaries such as island and Luxembourg but also for the flung places where the tax liability on sales that they've made in other countries are booked and and so it is of countries including France on the u.k. Have threatened to take unilateral action go there go their own way on this and so this is an attempt to bring about $25.00 or 20 countries amongst the o.e.c.d. Together to say look let's do something in a coordinated fashion because the big problem with multi jurisdictional tax is that if one country does one thing and one does another there's a risk that a country company gets double taxation or indeed things fall between the ranks and what worries me about this is that it's tax based on revenue rather than profit So in other words we're forgetting about the profit margin you can produce no I mean member Brad Amazon years ago huge amounts of turnover no profit because the profit margins were so thin that's on and and that is going down a very difficult road is different if your sign Well this company should pay this even though it's paying the tax in in Luxemburg name where the tank should originate from isn't it yeah absolutely and you're right to say that a tax that is hypothecated based on sales feels a bit more like the 80 rather than the profits based tax but they've The problem is the ability to to move profits around is something that is very much facilitated. By digital companies digital presence and the tax system was designed at a time when this wasn't a consideration and as more and more capital assets become. Untaxable costs different jurisdictions you need to make sure the global tax system keeps pace so this base erosion and profit shifting initiative near the city has been many years in the pipeline but it's come to a 4 because some countries are threatening to go to like Closer to home we got the g.d.p. Estimate for August which comes out the small in. This time I think is from critics and is based on a 3 month rolling estimate is that going down the American road. We've we've always done the the quarterly g.d.p. Estimates what is new for about the last 12 months is we start to produce a monthly series as a way the Office of National Statistics start to produce a monthly series and therefore to try and get over the fact that the monthly data can be really erratic and that is the health warning because the today's data is they roll it out over 3 months a rolling quarterly period to try and get rid of some of the noise but the headlines today are that following a contraction in the 2nd quarter in the u.k. Economy this is a really important data point to see whether the economy's not because Germany has already slipped into recession not quite not quite so not quite it's it's on the cusp of a recession a bit like the the u.k. But its manufacturing sector certainly is in recession that much is true with the wider economy the services sector in Germany his main relatively easily but you're right to highlight that most European economies are on the cusp of contracting in the u.k. This is a key data point to see whether it will follow suit in 3rd quarter more news in the retail sector the luxury jeweler links of London has gone into administration police $350.00 jobs at risk. Cather Mike Ashley. Was supposed direct as he's done. I mean he ate every shots on doughboys market still wouldn't He's very honest isn't he when he's asked about because he's a. Republican listed company and Sports Direct he said if I went private I'll just buy everything over the Del Boy analogy would be about right he's he's acquired it as evidence Jack Jack will House of Fraser he's made bids for a series of High Street companies and Lynx is the latest one that may well go his way he's made some noises around it but this is a another sign of the real tough operating environment with losses of 10000000 on 20000000 pounds of sales that's not sustainable for the club and just a quick foot see yesterday and we settle down after the sort of heavy sessions of the past few weeks I think the still more volatility to come pick volatility probably a week or 10 days out as we see more stuff on the trade or Bracks it coming to a head I should take a break we'll come back and tax your brain a bit later in the program so I'm a friendship from and maybe could have a game of stick cricket on the phone now the. Use of smartphones. Amongst other things a bit of banking and all of that state cricket was up there a lot that was a bit of a novelty we had James saying he never gets more than 8 hours charge on the phone is the such a heavy user listed or a long list of apps that many other many others you get in touch with Graham say in stocks and shares whether c.c.t.v. Hello welcome to wake up to money lots to get in the next half hour or so we're going to be looking at Thomas Cook very shortly and I have that company that bought those stores is planning on making them where we'll have the latest on goings on in Turkey and what kind of sanctions could happen there and the mobile phones and how you use them smart phones we'd like to know your thoughts couple of its research out today about how we use them for what they were originally intended for so their phone records later saying not many of us making calls anymore and Deloitte particular picking out in their report a 3rd of younger people using their smartphones to make calls on a daily basis conversation started on social media hash tag wake up to money about what it is people are using their phones for We've had to just get into same thole banking including cashing checks. Thank you for how. They were open and help. Your family members are. Ever just got to wait for darkness start day I've got some proof of my money. We've all got to ring the recruitment line with your I want to get as innocent as possible. Was. Believe it. Or call what. It. Different tempo mufflers. So I can afford a home. Here we. Go ours. Yes yes yes yes I think I have a pen just kind of. That we can all go back and if the teams read a. Few Christmas cards have a. Chair and a colleague they're talking to Correspondent collects a smith of Mickey is so good is it to hear them a matter of people and you know it's not going to be everybody 9000 jobs in the u.k. It's on the nice is not everybody but it's a here a little bit out of the blue really quite a surprise that 555 stores will be bought and the companies promise to keep as many of them open as it can yeah I mean that is that's going to be a bit of an uphill struggle to maintain that promise I think because we we've moved to the Internet to book a lot of our holidays and it's the shops really that have suffered and I is all about shops he's got about 190 of them at the moment it's a business you know the 1st branch was in the governor's mom's clothes shop e.c.m. Canty Daryn back in 9980 s is family run and I know if you saw the interview with the service yesterday. They police that they'd done the deal but actually looked very shocked and as though it was something they tried and it came up and they went over now what do you know but I mean good good luck to him but it's it's a tough market out there and it's going to be an uphill struggle yes quite the movies until yesterday had about $190.00 shops now adding $500.00 more says. That some money has travel much bigger market than we realize for personal service with package holidays besides High Street staff can just as easily chat online as well we remain an island race fearful of Johnny Foreigner and international travel he says. A good deal says says Mike people going into shops face to face he's pretty happy with that Irene Hayes he's part of husband and wife team John and Irene Hayes in the eighty's. Set up pays big name in the Northeast she was speaking to b.b.c. 5 Live The 1st today differentiating factor between ourselves and Thomas Kirk is that we are totally agnostic when it comes to which college it company we sell whereas Thomas Cook would have been doing what we call directional selling so that they would be trying to promote their own product and in fact they didn't actually sell such companies as jet 2 which is huge and getting bigger by the day so the difference with us is that we listen really can't do what our customers want and we just make sure that we give them the very best value hotel which fits what they're looking for the 2nd dimension that differentiates us is that we employ an inordinately high number of young people I think you probably don't know that we're a Sunday Times best 1100 companies to work for but we're also number one in the u.k. According to I pay for that the best launch commute scheme because we believe that the future is around social media last year for example we employed a 177 young people who know more about social media by the time they leave school than many of our very talented more experienced travel agents so that's Irene Hayes there we've got Lee Hurst with us from Travel Weekly morning to late morning what do you think can they make it work. Well yeah I think if anyone can it's John and Irene as I think they set up said they they live on the high street and sounds of business it's not just the High Street that got other interests but it's the High Street where that sort of Heartland is and you know they've got a formula for making stores work. On the high street despite whatever what everyone says about the high street dying and travel agency dying on the high street. Is only growing he's got to like he said maybe 2 new stores now and that's going up constantly last accounts show that they supposed to build a 1000000000 pounds worth of sales through those through their stores out on his other interests. A year a year or so ago. And about 6 years ago people as people traveled out of the south and 58 stores that actually doubled the store numbers in that transaction and it was a single long bus driver was really struggling at the time financially that was probably a company in some distress but he managed to make all the stores work and in fact open stores immediately after he bought it so he's going to got a foreman for making shocks shops work despite whatever and says yeah but I mean then the easies got now more than $700.00 shops is going to be a tall order to keep all of them open for one reason or another and there's clearly a move online whether it be me social media. For this business to move that why rather than than having a presence on the high street it is it's astonishing when the news broke yesterday and the industry that we did as well mazed that he was taking on everyone and looking to keep everyone open space in the shorts at least so you're right you know what John will do is you look at every single store he says he's been getting as much information out Thomas Cook he can about how each of those stores has been operating and. You know he will keep the most profitable so I suspect that you'll find a number just you know maybe simply aren't viable because of what you said that things have moved online but but into yes there's a we do you know he he talks about the fact that it's different to maybe how Thomas Cook operates their stores don't see the Internet as being an enemy they see as being a way of getting people into shops and that probably is the future for the high street retailing is that you look at the Internet and you'll shop from if you have shops as working in tandem and supporting each other whereas for very long for a long time of Thomas Cook that they almost competed against each other the Internet to be cheaper than the shops so that it competes against themselves and actually at times because of the way Thomas Cook sometimes operated the shops are cheaper than the Internet and so I think that's a different view of it I don't think going to be easy it is a massive challenge because he's got huge competitors who are purely online and as a result far fewer fixed costs and operate what you might say more efficiently but . You know this is a proper travel agent so as not as as Irene said and. They'll sell you anything so they are they are a place that can be very customer centric and that's probably where things are going in general so you know I think for the industry that we know ever will be absolutely delighted all those jobs saved all those good people back in work this week and they can go out there and prove that high street travel retail come work Yeah well certainly a lot of goodwill around this purchase as well as thank you for coming on from Travel Weekly says to discuss you need to know how 1000 jobs hopefully saved Thomas Cook after Hayes travel 555 stores be fascinating to see have. They go about that massive expansion of a business so quickly let's have a look at what was going on Turkey and the turkey the border at the minute with Syria Turkey's launched military action against Kurdish fighters in northeastern Syria planes are reported to have struck civilian areas close to the border part of the aim of this the Turkish president saying the operation was to create a safe zone cleared of Kurdish militias which will also house Syrian refugees now a lot of this is come on the back of President Trump's controversial withdrawal of u.s. Troops from the area earlier in the wake and then following up as he as he often does with a series of tweets Mr Trump was saying he would destroy an obliterate the Turkish economy if the country went off limits in any incursion there may have happened before then going on to price tickets or trade partner night our NATO ally we've heard one Republican senator Lindsey Graham threaten sanctions from how so what is going on here what we've got are Lay Yokley with us who is a journalist in Istanbul joining us live from Istanbul now morning to you good morning I'm. Just thirsty from your perspective any stumble Now what what what is the mood about what is happening on the border. This is. Something that's long overdue by most Turks This is a campaign that they support in general they're very supportive of their military here in Turkey and are due on has been threatening this incursion into Syria for close to a year now and so for many it's been a matter of time and they're hoping they were hoping for quite some time that Turkey would intervene to centrally stop this Kurdish run administration in northern Syria from gaining full fledged independence and creating some kind of Kurdish entity or state right under the southern border. Right and so that that's sort of what's going on there and then we when we've heard President Trump Anees tweets and the Republicans talking about sanctions of what might happen next are there concerns. In the from the government from businesses in Turkey that some sanctions might actually be implemented very soon and what might they be. Turkey right now expressing unity you know with a new military operation underway. There trying that maybe let's let's show some of their nerves but they certainly have reason to be nervous. Trumps our own party led by Lindsey Graham the senator who has been until recently went to Turkey says You allies in the u.s. That it has now drawn up a bipartisan bill that has quite severe sanctions for Cherokee that are in response to the attacking a u.s. Ally the Kurdish militia has fought alongside the u.s. Military against Islamic state and these sanctions are both personal and they target the president out on himself the minister of defense the minister of foreign of fares but also specific Turkish companies and could make it difficult for international banks to work with some of these companies so these are quite serious if they do in fact pass and Trump doesn't veto them what sort of impact is this going to have on the turkey's huge tourist industry because it has become a very popular destination particularly people in the u.k. Because its currency is probably doing as badly as I can see so therefore it resents more value for money. I mean it can't suddenly be supported by the Brits going it now the Brits do make up a sizable content. Of people coming to Turkey Every year it's a little under $2000000.00 Brits who visit it in the 1st I think 8 months of the year. But it's what led by Russians and then Germans and then followed by Bret's and it's a huge part of the economy so they're the tourism ministry said about 31000000 people visited in the 1st 8 months of 2019 and these they typically spend. You know the help they help earn billions in foreign currency upwards of $2530000000000.00 in foreign currency which as you point out is absolutely essential to a country that has been has had a fragile economy over the last year following a currency crisis and that has made it much cheaper and more attractive to these Russians Germans and Brits interest and. Thank you very much for joining us this morning explain explain few the the issues the consequences there around Turkey's military action against Kurdish fighters in northeastern Syria just scene of Evan update to Clara sliding a bit this morning Devon of a half a percent apparently the level it's on the minute 5855.5 against the dollar key level lots of people keep it on if it goes much lower than that then it could get a lot weaker is that it would be the logic there but we will follow that closely. For you and see how that develops over the coming days see what Donald Trump us to say as well thank you very much for all of your your messages on what we're using our smartphones for Jimmy and Kathy fitness and sleep apps quite a few people Mickey on social media is a hash tag right at the money saying that fitness apps monitoring how much sleep you get is one of the big uses of social media. Whatever apps you've got on and then we've had somebody get in touch on Twitter just having a look at James who sent us a tweet with his sleep reports from his mobile phone from a smartphone of his breathing machine his latest score. $98.00 out of $100.00 which is good I'm assuming it's good he said that means he said That looks like a good score to me and he said well I'm still alive so all good say yes long as you wake up every morning that you do you get in there and you need a smart phone to remind you that sometimes that you know I certainly do the morning just to double check Roger says he reviews stocks and shares for prices and discussions so I'm in French with this this is Simon alive from Gordon when though the world of investing and people trying to take things the onto their own responsibility a little bit more We've seen lots of government announcements about people being able to do that with pensions the smartphone missed out of a quite key role in all that it just enables more and more data to be at your fingertips and try and make sense both of where the opportunity lies but where the risks that are that are coming up are and Europe's the right you've got almost real time pricing a lot of the apps from some of the big data companies Bloomberg affinity of other others are available all provide sort of the armchair investor far more resources than they ever used to be able to have and that can only be a good thing I think just a few of the stories knocking about the regulators and compliance officers now pulling their wealth Yeah. There have been already I think just a few of the stories that make if you had lines this morning the front page of the the telegraph business section be a chief Let's fly against the fly Yeah yeah interesting story this he said that he doesn't need the cold to the center graph he doesn't need any lessons from protests on how to reduce carbon emissions I would imagine it's a subject he's gone into great detail over the years and get this you know extinction rebellion activists expected to target city airports and say in the Telegraph there front page of The Financial Times they are front and center at the top extinction react. And big oil needs to respond quickly to climate concerns and we see these protests are in a huge impact area around Westminster at the moment Simon a business is do they react quickly enough to the sentiment like this or are they actually better off just playing on the way Willie Walsh would like to and just sticking to their own guns look I think there's a delicate balancing act a lot of the a lot of the mutual funds pension funds are have e.s.d. Responsibilities that that is environmental social and corporate governance responsibilities that means that they have to take note of public opinion but also ensure that they're the investments they are making they are putting that the pressure of their ownership on boards to take those seriously so I think the investor community has a big role to play but what we cannot do and I think this is really important is just start making sweeping statements around walk kind of investments we're making in so fossil fuels mining companies because actually a lot of the answers to our energy needs are the future resource needs of the future are from the big companies whose historically have been big polluters they may be part of the answer just hammering them isn't is very very unlikely to be the correct answer Well I'm front page of The Guardian today they've had a big investigation the 20 firms behind a 3rd of all global carbon emissions and surprisingly make you say you know it goes back to $9065.00 apparently Yeah Saudi Aramco topping the table there it's there's a lot of oil gas companies make you know that our own the shell in there b.h.p. And yet we've talked about these 0 companies not having a role in the future you know the more we move away from fossil fuels all companies become just different and that's why companies like b.p. Moving into other areas to develop their business you know is it quick enough and we'll continue to talk about snow join in the conversation hash tag wake up to money if we'd like to know you thought so. Lots. I don't know if you. You probably don't follow many people on instagram d m a k So for anyone to cry there's no risk of Mickey leaking any stories to the papers but let's have a look at it let's imagine he might want to and they want to see what a few 1000000 Simon were up to and and the end like there was anyone interested in our lives well social media the minute can't get enough still trending this today Colleen Rooney Rebecca via these rather over these leaked stories to the press issue so Coleen Rooney wife of football away Rooney said she spent 5 months trying to work out who was giving out information from her personal Instagram account she was quite canny she blocked a lot of people so they can see what she was put in a apart from one and it turned a move yeah she's got a lot of praise for that apart from Rebecca Vardy who is the wife of another footballer Jamie Vardy she account not be blocked turned out there are still stories being leaked to the papers so says Coleen Rooney Rebecca Vadi has denied the allegation that she would have been the one selling stories to the to the papers so on Twitter Coleen Rooney claim that someone she trusted had to have been leaking the stories then we had the response Rebecca Vadi saying she didn't do it so clearly and in the middle of all that newspapers were printed some stories so got to think you don't wake up to money about fake stories how news organizations news organizations fact checked what financial rewards might actually exist for the people leaking this gossip and filmmaker Chris sackings made a film about fake celebrity stories back in 2009 and for a documentary starstruck is invented some celebrity gossip sent it to tabloid papers or magazines to see whether they'd fact check the stories or not and he claims he was offered as much as $600.00 pounds for want to pay off some of these lease my spoke to him it was a real experiment we just called up to. Have the. Second pay. Age saying if you've got story calls up and we can catch a stories so we just randomly call up a bunch of these numbers all the tabloids and and found them a load of complete nonsense really it was kind of like fun to tattle stories about celebrities so one of them is by Amy Winehouse having a party in a house and her electrics went and when she tried to fix electrics the house sort of blew in the her hair started smoking so it was just silly things like that which we just call them up and told them literally the next day we called the paper that they were you know being read by millions of people without any kind of verification whatsoever so they didn't ask you you were no any evidence no no I mean we sort of made up some some fairly outlandish cover stories a big book we literally gave no evidence whatsoever we just said look we and in some cases we said we'd heard this 3rd hand so you know you think that might be useful for a tip for starting point but they didn't the crucial thing that was interesting and I think that has parallels with Colleen really situation is a newspaper didn't check it they didn't call up the person who is the center the story or the p.r. Publicist and say look we're running the story tomorrow what's your comment because that would have got the response saying no this is a load of absolute rubbish but they didn't do that with any of our stories and it doesn't look like they did any of that with Colin stuff or the what we offered for these stories in turn our money we have a check to the lawyers and they said don't take money don't actually take the money because it will sort of compromise thing that you're trying to do but we were you're right we were offered money I think Eve buried I mean it depends on what kind of prominence it gets in the paper but one of our stories that really really landed it was the lead item on the bizarre page of The Sun which is that big celebrity gossip page and the lead story on that we were offered $600.00 pounds. So it's quite it's quite profitable. He had that can toss up comment now we put that to the son who declined to respond to what happened with Chris sackings and his fake names in the case of Coleen Rooney the papers that each of the stories that were provided to the sun was put to Colleen Rooney's Representatives before publication and on each occasion they declined to comment which sort of makes sense Mickey because if you want to if you're clean room and you want the story to get in the papers you can figure out which ones being late always look for the quote one of my it is huge the size of me did you get a quote of you spoken to and if you said no it will go back and speak to him and that's really where you go if we would have this story if you were still in the papers now you would people even talking about a shave thank you for all your messages today thanks to cyber friends that's it from wake up tomorrow breakfast up next I've got all the.
