News it's now 3 minutes past midnight b.b.c. Radio across the cells with poll man. 'd Kerry and hero 7 minutes past 12. In the south we've been talking tonight and we are still talking about learning to drive something we all want to do well most people want to do but of course when you learn you realize it's not as easy as it looks some what you've seen other people do for many many years could be a bit of a well a bit of an issue what was the one thing that stood out for you the one thing that you struggled with you just could not get on ways we've got some great stories so far and I think we can all relate to them that's the that's the positive thing and one person is being very honest here is Mike on the mobile security is just text he says he wasn't so much the driving but the Highway Code I learned to drive while stationed in Germany I had to learn it in both languages. Well done for doing that my friend let's speak to Alison said Leonard how about this I know I hear. Oh I'm glad we have spoken at long last thank you for that I think you have been right it's nice to have you there like you Graham's thank yous Nice to speak. To my. 71 years of age. 5 years ago. Than. I do want the big round about when they. Think that. What. I write is going to the next one if I counted that right which is the full force of the 1st. Test test but they plan to go to me. Oh Well Don that's pretty good. How did you how did you find the theory taste how did you find that some people say that that can be the the most difficult part. That they're easy. Really very young very young I mean the highway Hoess. Oh you know. It was just around. And you know one Palo parking Yeah everybody struggles with everybody and the thing is at least when the instructor shows you how to do it you think oh that's easy that's really easy your turn. Not so easy after all. That had to do it and I think the play with the flu it was from a definition makes I used to struggle I used to end up you know up the curve. Dreadful and when I was doing the test I was dreading that I thought any minute now because my driving instructor the the examiner rather he didn't have a sense of humor was no misery and whenever I said something to him he was always grumpy and it's right you just got the road hippies and turn left he said we're going to park with all no plays no don't let there be lots of traffic Oh and there was there were always there were but like you at least I did the I think something just just clicked I did it perfect I think I've ever done is well since to be honest with you. When I had to do. 60 poor to mention rights and you kept the policeman who also please. Write something around to buy them are nice and safe so much you mustn't where. People might test and that really helped and how you finding learning you know dead now driving after after so many years of not driving is it what is it called a novelty even. Hold the traffic and. It's no fun and fun driving I can't see the fun in the. I mean I used to get mate. I agree I agree with you don't know if I want to go somewhere locally I don't. Know I don't blame you know I agree with you very much traffic around and you know whenever you go out now whether be going to work or whatever you'll looking to see what's happening you know you go delays here again problems here that's close that close diversions it's no fun it's no fun a choice miserable miserable I remember times when we'd go out pretty dry been in the country a pleasure but. When I was a kid sometimes my dad would say in the evenings come on going out for a drive now he may and my mom and him will go and drive around maybe the airport was the airplanes for a while stop and have an ice cream and it was great fun but now you know he'd be stuck in traffic too much traffic about me I want to get. Around but I let them remain hidden and get out there in the morning chaos. And you end up with just gridlock nothing. You know. I tend to go. I have to pay and that's good enough I think definitely that will get good. Friends in the strife and you've got the you know and you know that you got the call there if you need it which is the main thing that's not enough family it's got you know life is great when it's good to hear and it's not a speech at long last I hope this won't be our final meeting I mean when you make sure you to look forward to the program was nice to have you then very grateful Thank you Alice take a thing and I will join you in your mind those roundabouts. Think of them that I think why. Thanks very much Bob I'm one of. The By now Babai roundabouts I was it was telling me that on one of that driving lessons they were running around about the wrong why I mean we was a friend of mine in Winchester way and. Told Hi how you did not you well you're not good stuff right were it to struggle with my friend what was the thing that gave you the problems the mirror in so it mirror how in what way. Are you I was an apprentice butcher. And my boss said once I'd have a couple of lessons he'd get somebody to. Sit in the van with me. All right round the day do the delivery and learn to draw on Raw. People got sit with me will saw a man Oh but they did in one place they did the know it well yes and then when they we had a chat used to be a fireman working with us and he got some of my words as they come up while they climb over and then went with me. On what we call the country he ran. In those days it was a Morris Minor and the final around 7 foot tall Well yeah. All right they fought with some bad habits rarely. And the other thing was there wasn't a mirror there was something inside mirror in the van so when I came to get in the driving instructors car which was a voxel very very. You had an inside marriage so when you had to have a friend to call around the corner in the stars to look in the mirror and saw yourself around on that yeah that's right and when you were going along you were supposed to look in the look in the marriage see what was behind you and because you want me to doing this not you fun and you weren't used to doing this class and being one. He said to my part it was a Sunday morning need to know that the day before my test and he said to my boss he's never going to pass he said would have to put blonde on the for on the pony Jamie that's the only way we're going to get the inside mirror. And tell you. That what I worked with. How did you get on in the end did you pass you know I I decided to trying to put me in the van right right when it come to reversing around the corner in those styles if you were driving a van you went on to the opposite side of the world and then when you open the door and reverse ground looking where you were going. And saw the perfectly. When it come to the end of my test. I had to parallel park and. I did it is always thought well I and the Examiner It was a chase examiner only said Mr Gordon with the help from the supreme what he might burn well. It's not enough to tell us. He was on a street you know. You know I can remember watching people go round round round about going round corners with the door open having a look to see where they were going that you happen all the time you know. Past the Taliban thing it was interesting thing just before the news you have a lovely home Carol yes and that's my driving test. On what you would have a human driving test under the nose of us all you all work in the boat shopping cart machine. And the drive in examiners. Office was. So used to see these people coming in and out of the door all the time thinking one day that's going to be May 1 day that really may but least even Massachusetts who drove an examiner come into saw me and did you sort of give them a little bit extra to try and get around them in a. Moment. So you knew you were yes because you know I give you an extra couple approach ops you know a couple extra chipper Lars's just just because I and. We've all been there we've all had these experiences it's good to hear other people's isn't a and because you often think of other people you know find it easy but nobody does this is one thing that you have issues with it's good to hear them and I think it helps people learn to drive now as well are struggling possibly these in thanks very much for your calls I love you to talk to you thank you but by now but by those in Winchester. You know old vehicles can also be a problem going to come through here from Roger who's in Southampton he says I learned to drive in 1903 I learned to drive in a car that was falling to bits a car and what it was I think it was not still a growth it was given to me by a distant relative and they were going to say to scrap yards the only reason I was able to carry on driving it was because there were about 4 or 5 months left on the end so it was legal it was dreadful but of course I learnt to drive in it so I got used to its quirks and then when I had to take my test he had to be the car that was going to belong to the examiner and so the 6 notes examiner down to the examiner which was fairly new I felt so stupid I didn't know what to do I was heavy handed I failed the 2nd time and I don't mind admitting I failed 3 times before eventually passing I think you just mentioned I think I should say the instructor there was the instructors current year. The run the Examiner and also I was going to mention to Sanya from Henley on Thames out here on the email saying 3rd gear was a problem lovely email here from Michael he says I could never get the call out of 2nd gear I would put into 1st put away the traffic lights going to 2nd and then I would freeze because I had this idea that if I went into 3rd the car would run away with me and I wouldn't be able to slow down this went on for 5 or 6 lessons until we had to have a conversation at the side of the road a mine structure told me that unless I went into gear and ultimately 4th gear they would be no point in carrying on with the lessons. 'd 'd or. We. Leave. To the. Ring. Is something was. With the. Law to get it. The. Fat chick. With. The. Hot dog. To come. Home. To feel you to be. There. To keep the Palm OS. Move. You home. Twice. And. 3 times a lady from the Commodores 24 minutes past 12 from b.b.c. In the south talking about learning to drive the thing that you struggled with. Clapham readings tech She says When I was learning to drive it was my driving instructor the worried May he suffered from hay fever and he used to use his hanky quite a lot so on one occasion he put his hand over his mouth to sneeze but breathed in and inhaled the hanky on nearly choked to death it was very stressful was only 17 trying to drive. I trust he was Ok Ok that's the main thing and Mary says when I was a bit of a smarty pants I think I had my 1st lesson on my 17th birthday in less than 7 weeks I passed 1st time with just a lesson your right you are a smarty pants Let's go Linda in Red Hill Hi Linda. How are you tonight. Trying to warm up what I had to go out I put the dog out but trying to get him to come in on top I'm not surprised the thing is they don't seem to be bothered about the cold weather I was out with Charlie the early hours this morning I'm stood there and it was minus goodness knows whatever and I'm saying come on time to come in come on he looked at me as much as to say Will you go in I'm staying here I got things to do I got things to sniff you know yeah exactly what are you doing me son in the talks trying to game to come in no yes no not any of that then eventually when he did come in there is these tell down or dejected said I was having a good time out there. But of course everything is helpful in. Keeping me warm that's. True friends again that's what I like to hear. Tell me about this this driving experience into what did you struggle with when you were learning my love like not to be a man to drive in from 170 things were different then but like a lot of people it was what we used to go on street parking now called tyro Yes. I couldn't do it. I mean I could try that in the end my instructor gave up. He was in the park. So you could only play in the parking places. And so did you not have to do it on the test no you didn't. Think. We did not do. You know that kind of thing just as well you didn't do parking full stop I had to do parallel parking I passed my test in 80. 3 I think it was and I was dreading it I really was and also reversing round the corner which of the 2 most awkward things when you're learning and I had been practicing and practicing and practicing and I had 2 hour lesson the morning before the test and I was doing it and doing it and doing it mind structure said There you go you've got it and I knew that on the actual test it would go wrong but it didn't he did go Ok but ever since then I think of all being going wrong it's not an easy thing to do I know some people say it's easy but I don't think it is you know I still have to concentrate now after 100 years of well I mean . Everything else starting to play. I had no problem with learning and I was turning left so my instructor was. Driving. Cleats goes yeah stance driver is well yes so where I live. You know what you know but to yell here you know that great big hill you go down that hill but he took all his 1st time it took us down there. To control us I know that was well he his method was he could tell by how the student reacted to how they were going to be with their driving that's interesting. So there was a method in his madness he was doing it for a reason yes you know there was I mean obviously our. You know breaking and that kind of thing didn't bother me. Where are we 40 years of driving later. I probably had one slight mishap when it comes to next to hang on to. That type. Of touch the don't touch my head yes I stuck on 3 parter. It's not an easy thing it's you know when I'm driving along I always make sure that a nice big space you know 6 pies is bigger than. My start can be a Bentley I'd get the hang of it well you made to yet some it's still early days late into Yeah I drive behind control now I've only got one hand to the steering wheel mile back and be exhilarated right Ferran of my spine problems got a lot worse Fair enough I can't use my legs what so ever but that's fair enough. I think if I can't do you. Even Try journey in fact a friend of mine has got a car the parks for you and and I said to my said oh you flash ery he said no I'm not he said I bought it he said because I had it as an extra in the car he said because my parking is atrocious he said even though I've been driving for 30 years he said I still bring the whole high street to a standstill and I still have people laughing at me he said talk at a College Park for me said and it is bliss and I suspect since about 10 years time all cars will be like that well up to. The big box so cougar. That. That parks itself yeah because I do want to. Thank you. Oh no I think compatible with my. You know in the new cause. And you couldn't have it I could. Laurie's near Lynd that is bad news I need to think we'll. Go down the. Rest of the. Library. This is no big deal and this is no. Together we could. Do it my way make sure you go to space at 6 sizes bigger than it needs to be and you'll be in there no trouble it's no I speak from experience. I like that even more absolutely get on your good luck with. Thanks folks vehicle in the nice to tonight here tonight thank God homey fairy. Tell me about it I will thank you very much take care by now bye bye bye bye there's Linda read here without the dog she didn't feel the cold do I you know you callin in yet the dog looks even says no no gun in it's cold out here on the cold Irene's in bulk now Irene I know how you tonight I'm fine. Jolly good yet not see bad so I feel quite good actually after in the story so I thought it was only me that was a pellet learning to drive you know unable to stare at all the rest of it but I think. The part. I know they're amazing I mean they are becoming more and more common but. It's great to watch it to watch it do it because they literally just pop themselves which is. Fabulous we made when I 1st drive and mines. They got in they got in his car and he said to me right you know you tell me what to do into going to 1st scare and we've done up the road he said change is just an awful. Serious and I've got a change there I want to get us up the road I think it's not worth it. To as I tell . Way if when you pass your test you can drive with one leg at the between the estate you can do what you like but when I tell you to change gears you got to change Gates knew we'd get into the I didn't have 2nd 3rd or 4th and I just it was the days that can truly make. I can just imagine that instructor Ok change game and those Yeah why. I said Well RINGBACK I haven't got far to go to go change down again and I thought they were navigators used it in fact it. Did you that did he think you were just joking around no no no no no that's when he said to Matt don't what do you do it said you know you can get one leg out one window on one leg at the other window but we're changing. And I'm teaching you you do it I say you know he used to frighten me he was very very good he used to really so sometimes we do some Egypt is. Well he may say you did the same and he say you've been saying yes or no you should try to drive me to Clinton or somewhere he's the bomb shop very state and I need some potatoes so it was an extra sort of lesson really and I could drive there when you got out and get these betrays mean these. Are not. All these things going on driving lessons there's a lady on your own said her instructor you say pullover needs to go in the pop. Good grief talk about Confessions of a driving instructor I used to go to use wanted to get by certain things and I was you know drive in there and I thought that was good because I just paid for my basic lesson but I had to be extra lessons you know. Going through somewhere else and it was cos part time decide and I said I'm not going to do this each issue will be simple please don't shut your eyes it's because I've. Seen how you know you have to worry your courage or I stand on a good idea when you're driving no no no no to a good idea of how to thought about that people closing their eyes when that one yeah but I don't say nothing he said no no no open your eyes and I said But don't you I'm going to do it he suggests you were you got plenty of room 'd I mean he was good when I actually took my test I had to go with the chief examiner for the 1st time I took it we had a slight flurry of snow and they cancelled always it was the chief examine any code at the other instructor that lessons and exams are cancelled today and he cancelled the only course I went back to I was running the pay school and then I went back in and they also which I had found you see because I told them that I had my 2 test 3 weeks later and when I passed it I was the only one in my family to pass 1st time because my husband. It's me the day before I was looking down as I'm driving the car he said What you looking for us I'm looking for the m I'm looking for the bike we went. By when all of the distractions aside nothing the posse said he would do you would I mean this is lovely to have that confidence and I went into my playgroup and I said I skipped down the whole who knew the truth in the company he was actually on You had passed obviously yes and I went to different shops around don't I praise things and and I said and they said yes congratulations will you do you do you do it is my baby that must mean really nice in a relay for you as well oh yeah but I thought I might have been up and I said to him was a friend minded pulse and she found a husband and said could 'd you bring the car home lunch time I think you were local keeping the car home lunch time because I passed my test so when I saw him I went up and I said I don't need to tell you some story so soon as possible I don't need the car I said you didn't you didn't and that's on that my mother in law and I said I pass you to My Will full of confidence then you're going to pass clearly into the show all not really a local post office and in the bank gave me about to chop he said to do it and you do it. And I was the 1st one happened I am really after yes say so you had the last lot didn't you know I didn't know where that is and didn't like the gays and I thought a very mild I told you we'd you know got one the bindis are no power steering. They get you from a to b. That's the important thing yes but. I've got another that my sisters gave me and that is an automatic never never driven automatic Oh you'll get used to it like that but I thought it now yeah you do you know within. A few weeks you'll wonder why you haven't mucked around changing gays you'll be fine and I've got one it's going to open out and it's going. So now you see you can actually no worry about the gays. Someone stay and yeah you know I go now I won't go up in the car park about any ramp. Up you know and multistory car park in case he goes backwards I see an automatic car it won't it'll just stop so you'll be fine now and we said this is the thing that I'm pleased about this is going to change your life do you realise that this is the start of the future and past even abetted by rank own property. I'm saying nothing at that point nothing happy automatic is all I can say have fun with. I do want to listen I do want them to come out with me but they said no you just you know put in driving off you go it'll be for your. Ducky was you really well you ain't. Good onya thank you so much for telling us and thanks for the love. Take care my love. Yes I will thank you very much our change gear as well. Delight changing gear getting structure on one night wouldn't things that people say Ok there's a truck the road will probably change gear plays oh no I don't want to do that no I don't need to change gear are you stay in this one. Toyota driving wasn't good news for you the m 20 just been told that eastbound between junctions 8 and 9 the carriage way has now been cleared there was a stranded h.g.v. a Couple of hours ago we mentioned on the program it has now being cleared so the m 20 eastbound in Kent between junctions $8.00 and $9.00 between hauling born Ashford that has now been cleared out of out on the roads that is at least one good thing but I've been having lots of reports from people throughout the evening and thank you very much for your calls and techs and so on saying that driving he's he's not good at driving conditions receiving are a miserable couple more wants to do on the. A mile thanks to Kirsty and cell c. She says I always struggle with parallel parking was learning to drive I had a feeling that it would come up at my test and deed I was asked to park in between 2 cars but thankfully a car coming in the opposite direction saved me and parked there instead so we just moved on I went on to pass by still have problems now I have to get my friend to do it for me or if I'm on my own find a bigger space some Kirstie in cell c. And you are no doubt one of thousands I'm sure so don't you worry too you worry too much. About that and I also want to meant she. She says my mom in the 1960 s. Bought a Ford Anglia book some lessons offered to take out as well so one Sunday morning Uncle Dick came around to take her out my sister and I went up stairs took out the front window to see her drive off she started up the car and off she went straight up the grass heading for the next door's garden wall that's my poor uncle grabbing the steering wheel she went on the football for a while then eventually got on the road but it was on the wrong side when they came back Mongol got out and pretended to be all shaky she eventually passed her test but it was always a white knuckle ride being a passenger in with us from Sheila in yeah I. Know you knew my mother. The Walker Brothers a no record 40 minutes to one of the b.b.c. In the south Mr Russell is whether that's how I imagine my voice sounds when I saw the phone but what so what I think you think you saw Scott Walker in my head I don't know if he me saying you're through local militia yet your reality is I. Mean it's not I was a 14 year old demos again and you know. This before the very 1st time I did like a mobile disco I think it was our youth club and it was me in a mate of mine and I was only about 12 maybe 13 and I was the young side of the age as well and I smoked out afterward said to me said you were very good he said just one thing he said when you voice comes on you go I do whatever. He said maybe you can make it a bit deeper. I'm sorry nature has me not coming to me yet back in those they would have pictured just as and things were but you know so you had no children who are so the size of the USA It was made worse because it was a lot I did it with a boy called Mike he was one of those kids who was like 6 foot one in the 2nd year senior yeah there's always a kid who just massive and fully shaving with a very deep voice and as you know I got a mouse being attacked. Sort of entry things you know you matured a bit you started you know I wonder where you go now you're starting right things we should hear that when you grow up in all the rest of any it was time to learn to drive I've told you I had problems with it was steering and I've never forgotten it either I think with the 1st lesson you know that's no big deal to instruct as most the things for you know you don't realise. This is ever so easy with the clutch and what have you in your eyes that doing it. Steering I think I remember the instructor now Graham we pored over saw the road he said now he said this is our 3rd lesson this is the 3rd hour you've been driving he said we are still going in the middle of the road he said why are you turning the wheel I said I don't know you were stop and I struggled that was the thing I really have problems with eventually just clicks doesn't it but I don't know why I just used to turn the wheel so the road use a wonder most of the things I struggle with were are I went through. I had the same is Grettir the driving instructor who basically use your lesson as a way to stay on top of their social schedule that was my 1st driving instructor Yeah and because you don't know any better you're only 1718 years old or whatever and you because you don't know what's happening next because they're saying Turn left and right all those you are working on such a short list of instructions that you don't come to think of it kept pulling up outside his house when he went in and stuff like that he always seem to have something else going on in his life very distracted and no surprise I failed in the next guy. He wanted to have a high passed rate that was his target and his heart was trying to make everybody pass and he was he just was attentive and cared and he was such a small difference but I needed tough the lessons with him and yeah he was much better the things I struggle with afterwards because once you kind of set free if you like for want of a better term you manage to borrow a car or whatever it might be and you start going out about it's the little things like putting petrol in it because you don't usually get to put petrol until after you've passed the test you can often do it to dread it Yeah and these little things that this I always look when I get a car I'm not got for the 1st time I've learned the hard way to look at the vehicle see which side the petrol carries on there's only a couple years ago that I learned if you look at year on your dashboard you look at the petrol symbol it has an arrow pointing left or right usually it does yes I did hear a couple of exceptions Yeah usually it was more cars anyway so if you sit in a car and look it shows intelligence on it is doesn't mean you stick to people. Strictly stretch your nose I don't know that it goes right to reach it but it's how you go and how you go from the back I was nursing cars back and we've all done it I've gone back was of course trying to do things like that the dipstick I mean my dad showed me where the dipstick was with my brothers up stairs. I could was it was only fly here it was putting in the screen wash or in my case water with. Very little because you know that in my mini I still do that now because with the many you'd have to push the thing you know so I this modern technology we have yeah yeah yeah yeah and then the whole just get blocked up and so my my mom used to come out with a darning needle and stick them in the little jets you know just to block right away go and you pump Ok. She has put in the pins in no it's still blocked she was something else you don't do no riding the choke we used to get shot also you know exactly yes I mean how did this time of year we do we had it we were getting the thing the star and he's funny that there was a lady who we didn't manage to get on there but she said that she or maybe he did she went to her test and she would she went inside test examiner and her come out into the college she's out of the driving instructors car and the car wouldn't start and she to get it started the driving test examiner had to get used to cranking hand. Because she said I wasn't physically strong enough to do. Anything Yeah I told my brothers kids about my grandfather and their granddad my dad both having cars where what you know a couple of times I've seen them crank the handle on the front of the boys believe me they probably you know there's a lot of stories like that in my late father he learned to drive in the Army when he 1st came out of the Army he went to became a driver driving a h.g.v. Is around and he says that back in those days nothing was assisted I mean today you know even a weakling like me could probably drive a lorry because everything is power system and they have these great big old Dennis's and what have you and they said when you want you to to write to try and do a turn in the middle of London where used to be delivering you'd have to stand up in the cab to yank around my dad just like Popeye have a great big muscles Yeah. You said you you just had to and has yet to double declutching and all the rest of it not right now where everything is just you know just does it. Almost doesn't it hydraulics and so on and I have to laugh I say don't be silly standing up to turn the wheel he said what you did if there was no systems it's always the thing way Tom's yankin the thing round he said you dreadful dreadful different kettle of fish it is different here it is but somehow I don't know why a problem staring I don't know why and the other thing I was told was that I didn't pay attention to what's happening around me he said My instructor said you listen to what I tell you to do and if I stop telling you nothing happens and he had a point I got so used to him telling me what to do and I mention this in the office early thought she true we were driving along and we came to the Junction and he didn't say anything to me and these cars behind me being so I said you have a topic where we're going grimy said No I said Grannis cause behind us which way am I going left or right he said Where is that sign say out there and I looked I said a one way street he said yes we're going the way the arrow tells us to go I thought so stupid so so stupid he said See what I mean you've got to look at what's going on around you you won't always have me there and after that I used to then start you know looking at the road signs I had to just drive along with him some more to do this is a shame you don't still use grown now because I see wandering around the car park going in circles and yet I yeah eventually Thanks for letting you know it's alright we get there I think other you know told you this before years ago I went to Germany and stayed at my uncle's place I was on the way back from having watched football somewhere and he said to me in the countryside outside this city in Germany said Oh bar the car you can go and he recommended this place where he works as a chef this big sort of circular nightclub take the car throws the keys out you're not even certain nightclub Well it was a it was yes circular as opposed to those round not spherical circular so it was like yes you would. In the front entrance but essentially went round and logic like a clock dial really yes so it was and is very open as well it was a weird place it sounds if it was the point well it was a weird man it was you see the place he's the one who used to be an flamenco dancer . And he throws the keys at me and I set off where you mind he lives in the country I don't really know he's going to go down here go down there get out of here and I'm just doing off the top of my head at night so I get in this car but. Stick shift in the dash you know what we have to pull in. So I'm driving for the 1st time a life on the wrong side of the road with the and I was always he sat on the wrong side of the vehicle as well so what we used to. Put a log and there's a junction I get to and this far you've followed you wrote cross road all managed by traffic lights all coming from different angles probably Yeah well markings pulls away and 1st could I get in 2nd you can actually do right now you know you said about your dad with the standing up to get there I had the foot down on the clutch I had both my hands off the wheel by now I had both hands are going to shift trying to pull out why it got so hot it would completely come out all these Germans banging their horns at me like I couldn't venture it something gave and I got into 2nd you learn to do it was by the time I got into 2nd so much more as well as being a 1st. Line driver to see if you know an old runner years ago with you know now stake thing you know I had an old Citron with the hydraulic hydraulic also maturity and they were lovely so comfortable you know your problems with them as a b.x. 19 and all her majesty that it was like driving a one massive like a tank like driving a lounge. To work the summer of one of those it was brilliant suspension was it was there wasn't Yeah suspension was obviously the you know the best thing Good grief yes I had one of them could. Never have never had where there were enough problems with everything else. Life in general it and tell me about it because obviously other people. Stories Oh yeah it was annoying how you parallel parking that's the thing that people struggled with in going around the bend I don't remember standing it was a particular problem I do with hindsight how dangerous it was telling people to reverse around corners you just wouldn't do it now would you where you probably wouldn't find a corner where there wasn't a lot of traffic coming up behind you anyway yeah learning to drive now must be horrendous because the roads are so so busy but maybe you know you learn after people say to me how on earth did you learn to drive in London so why didn't any difference in maybe I think that's probably I don't drive round eyes well worth if you know the area that was the area that I learned to drive but I didn't have my test there I had my test run Hampton way and I'd only been there once or twice a mind structure said to be good enough for 2 weeks for the rest of the the test he said right he said we're going a different way today I'll take another row I said why he said I've just found out he said they're probably going to test you he said around Hampton. Don't worry we're going to go there now it was all different I mean I got used to you know what to watch when you get around the. Course wasn't you know it turned out to be Ok there was such constant right we are going on the motorway for the 1st time I never forget that call between thrilling and terrifying all at once. I went on with my dad and shaking like a leaf I think I was doing 40 and my dad say you go get it faster No I'm fast enough he said No come on. I can't do 5th day yes you know all over for you as you would that stood up in the in the passenger seat force about it. Yeah yeah but now you do and then you know he said Right come on we've got to get over into the into the next lane and how do you do that he said well you've read the highway code you you know you've passed your test or none and I'm not very good but then you get used to it and you yeah you do you do things change over time I mean I still think mirror signal maneuver Nigel's Well I wonder whether that's even with even do that now you know most people I see maneuver you say they mirror to see what damage they've done here and then see. When you left in the road exactly I flashin years Marcy and I get out my way and there we go good fun though looking back is good yes it's good that people are very honest we had some lovely stories tonight the idea of the instructor saying just pull over here a moment thinking you gotta learn to park or something to get. The better. 50 quid on. Minutes let's think about whether I'll still be alive after the end of his driving. But my instructor used to sit there looking at the ladies walking past oh yeah you just pull over here a minute pull he said just for a minute I said Sure pull away now none of us have another couple of minutes I said Well what we're waiting for he said just waiting for that nice lady over there to move on I said not again to laugh about the. Old man.
