She's talking to her solicitors following remarks from a former colleague she'd made derogatory comments about voters in an interview yesterday Caroline Flint who lost her South Yorkshire seat last week claimed Mr O'Mara had told a colleague she was glad her constituents want a stupid is there meanwhile Labour's general secretary Jenny for me has set out a timetable for choosing party leader in a letter to Labour's ruling body she proposes a contest should start on January the 7th with Jeremy successor in place by the end of March Sally cable was Labour's defeated general election candidate in Northampton north she says the party has some serious thinking today this was always going to be a phenomenally difficult election because a context was obviously bricks and it was also a winter election and it was also a snap election but even allowing for that you know I still think that what happened was was a real. It was a real indication I think to everybody of the direction of travel the country wanted hundreds of postmasters have won a key victory against the post office and the controversial accounting software they were forced to use the judge at the high court said the horizon system was not remotely robust and even after there had been improvements flaws remained the judgment ends years of campaigning by those affected some of whom were jailed in cases where the software wrongly locked missing funds last week the post office agreed to pay 58000000 pounds to settle the dispute fresh talks are underway in Belfast to try to restore devolved government in Northern Ireland or Ireland correspondent Chris page whose ass dormant says the election has added a fresh impetus to the talks all the parties are acknowledging that on the doorsteps during the campaign they were taking heat from voters people complaining that really enough was enough they had to get back into government that storm so there is a sense that perhaps the biggest change this be the tipping point there's been a kind of shift both in the public and political perspectives in these talks to have a slightly better chance of succeeding than the previous rounds of the go see Asians . The 1st matrix called drink or drug driving by police in their winter campaign has been named publicly the month long operation began last week a run until the New Year p.c. Dave Lee is from the full she says they're targeting those who drive under the influence of drugs as well as alcohol we do the breath test for alcohol we also carry now which is a device where we can take a sample of saliva as if we suspected of having taken drugs Ok For example we could then request that they provide a saliva sample which is a drug test if that proves as a positive then it's off to custody then it's a blood sample taken by a doctor health care professional to be sent off to the laboratory. The answer comes up in around about 20 minutes time but 1st with the latest news of the day here's Sarah hundreds of postmasters of want to keep victory against the post office and the controversial accounting software they were forced to use the judge a high court's at the horizon system was not remotely robust and even after they had been improvements falls remained the judgment and years of campaigning by those affected some of whom would jailed in cases where the software wrongly logged missing funds Johnson is expected to announce a small cabinet reshuffle some posts in the cabinet such as culture secretary of vacant after the general election newly elected M.P.'s have been settling in Westminster today including more than 100 conservatives the shadow foreign secretary everything he says she's talking to her solicitors following remarks from a former colleague she'd made derogatory comments about voters in an interview yesterday Caroline Flint who lost her South Yorkshire seat last week claim this Thornberry had told a colleague she was glad her constituents went as stupid as theirs and Justin secondary school in Atlanta has been closed due to an outbreak of the norovirus in a statement on the school's website The principal said in our advice it affected both staff and students and so decision was made on Friday that in the best interests of the health and safety of the whole community the school would remain closed the school buildings being deep cleaned and any dry night would clear spells this evening although the winds were last missed him fog in places a low of 2 Celsius that's the 6 Fahrenheit b.b.c. And in successive weekends the Champions Cup match finished 50 to 21 to last year's runner up Kris Boyd made 8 changes to his side last week resting some of his key internationals and he says that victory wasn't necessarily the goal for his side a disappointment was not to get a bonus point which was what we were really choice and we didn't think. The result he was going to have an influence on. Your position in the tournament so it's not it's not so much a listen but what it does show is that when you're playing it's one of the swords in Europe that is chock full of inspirational was when you bring a sword that store a lot of youngsters and a lot of experience then you know the difference was that was is a figure of our to remember him last week saying that it was a near Test squad that lens there were going to be fielding so it fielding and so it proved to be will turn to football an accomplice and now within a point of the top 3 in League 2 After a one nil win over fellow promotion rivals forest green there was little in the game and Kiko side had to show their resilience in the 2nd half Cole said they carried out the game plan well enough we set ourselves up to be another team to play against. Which Notts not sometimes not ideal because your home team anything you want to go on you want specially self and you want to show 3 slow and it's 8 in attacking football but we're respectful of the opposition that we're playing against today and we needed to make it a scruffy encounter because I think our players can play scruffy our game plan today was spoiled a game knowing that we could be a physical presence from set pieces and we had good willingness good endeavor and a good desire to stop them from playing key roles ugly scruffy squad to get himself 3 points in a one there when I have the weekend draws been made for the last 16 of the Champions League Manchester City play rail Madrid Liverpool face and letting a Madrid Chelsea take on by in Munich and Spurs will be meeting RB like sig and in cricket the all rounder Ben Stokes for England will fly out to South Africa after say. 2019 will be hard to top his come comments come after he was voted b.b.c. A maps at the ready laid out on his kitchen table he thinks it's a little and he's right. When next for the Labor Party it's something we'll be talking about after this from Band-Aids. You. Oh. Oh. Oh I'm out of course a classic Do They Know It's Christmas. Well do they. Owe. Live Oh. Maybe you see a radio at all times and on the drive time shut up you can join me because on Thursday of next week we're going to be talking about something very similar. To band. That song which is being given a new lease of life by business oh here in the county you might need some. Wanting for your ear we're will play the song and you can find out for yourself exactly what it is the local business. With and I do not take themselves too seriously are trying to Regina as. Now newly elected M.P.'s have been taking their seats in parliament today I guess a lot of the must think that Christmas has come early certainly that will be the situation for the Conservative Party and maybe the s.n.p. In Scotland but for labor it's been a time to look at swoons over the $59.00 seats that it's lost since Thursday of last week it was always going to be a difficult election for Jeremy Corbin's party according to Sally Keeble the former Labor m.p. For Northampton North Sally held the seat between 19972010 ran as a party prospective parliamentary candidate this time she said she's surprised the considerate see didn't see a need for Labor to get back into power it was a woman who I canvassed who's waiting to be evicted from her house. As I spoke to her there were people who were complaining about what was happening to their children who had special educational needs was a whole raft of that and the really sad thing was that given all of that people did not see the Labor Party as offering them a solution to the to the really serious problems that there are here in Northampton Sally Keeble of course he was talking on breakfast time this morning Annabel a mass you heard if you heard the full interview that Sally Keeble thinks secure stomach could be a good candidate to take the baton from Jeremy Corbyn when he steps down as leader and we think that's going to happen sooner rather than later certainly within the next 3 months or so on the line now and joining me is Tom Beatty he's the Labor leader of Barak Council afternoon Tom and John do you agree with Sally. And. 'd your stalwart leader in terms of the surprise no I don't agree with. The. With that particular position I mean I think here Starmer has a lot of qualities I personally think that perhaps this time around the Liberal Party needs to look at a woman. Leader probably someone from outside of London also and I think here. Fits in to both of those things one is male and one he represents and in a lot of the ward and over in some punk or so he would be my choice even though I'm very impressed with him as a politician why would you say that a woman is best placed to run the Labor Party passing I think it's time I mean we've had too conservative prime ministers we've never had apart from interim. Times with a female lead the Labor Party as a party which is dedicated to recall of see which basically it's a result that's for as reason for existence of husband to promote equality I'm not so hot a woman in over a 100 years I think is something that we need to put right there's a half a dozen names that have been mooted as potential replacements for Jeremy Colby an acquittal McDonald has already gone Jeremy Coleman is now said that he will get 5 of the of those in the running alongside his Dhamma if you do we can say in the running that 5 of the of the touted names Ah certainly female is there a particular individual that you would favor at this stage well from the M.P.'s who who've announced the interest of. 'd a pop up to qualify that with the fact that you know nominations haven't opened shop impress and someone like Lisa Nandi. Lisa's she's she's an m.p. Who represents a northern constituency she represents a town. We can which is one of those towns the liver failed to hold in the election last week Lisa did manage to hold on but in the times were which have been traditionally liberal. Have been described. As they left behind the places I think the police are now and the comes with that she's she has she's young. Sort of the the female names that have been bandied around so for Certainly she would be the one I'd look at most seriously do you think politics has become to London centric amongst all of the parties we've got used to the House of Commons becoming something of a bad paper it's all become very shouty largely on the back of breaks and we will be living with that for over 3 years do we need to actually shift politics outs to the provinces out to Northampton out to places where in fact it's not all about sound bite politics which we get in London these days yeah I agree and I think. People exist in a Westminster bubble and I think. For instance it has very little made during the election campaign about what was happening in local government is an awful lot of good stuff going on in local government particularly over local government develops a good Labor Council leaders up and down the country including female council leaders so I think the focus on Westminster should change and Westminster is a pit it always has been I'm not suggesting that women wouldn't or shouldn't feel comfortable another more than capable of holding their own but I think it's more to do with the fact that. Certainly for the Liberal Party most of our membership appears to be concentrated in those areas the biggest constituency a Liberal Party's or an inner London. I think the focus needs to change and I wouldn't be able. To. To move him out of the Westminster bubble and bring in politics more regional perhaps Jerico beanies he's not only ruling what happened on Thursday but now shouldering the blame certainly seems to be what's being heaped on him at the moment from your point of view in local politics here in Northamptonshire is the labor. Leda as Jeremy Corbin actually done anything good for the Labor Party which the Labor Party can now carry forward now we going into a very strong majority conservative period of governance but I've been a strong critic of Jeremy Cohen's leadership from from the outset I was asked on. The early hours of Friday morning well through it and for the results to come in what I felt were the reasons behind Labor's defeat certainly leadership was one of them it wasn't the sole reason there were other things I think our. Policy manifesto perhaps contained too much it wasn't clear and focused enough and we struggled to get positive ery simple message from the conservatives about getting Bragg's it done but leadership direction and strategy all played a huge part in that what I would say perhaps is that we've elected a conservative government but ironically the center ground where I think what most elections are won from has moved slightly to the left that I have anything if anyone achieve income be laid at the door of Jeremy Cohen's Labor Party it may be that the center ground is a bit further to the left than it was which might seem strange given that we've elected a conservative government but it's a conservative government committed to significant increases in public spending an end to austerity almost. You know investment in things like the n.h.s. So if that happens that I suppose we could say you have the that the bill it has shifted the longer about cut cut and it's about investment and I would certainly hope to see local government to clear in Northampton should benefit from not and of course that will come under a 2 unitary process which looks at me looks as though it's going to happen of an all hands and she looks as though the discussion of a 3 sector unitary County is now going to disappear with the majority of the consumer. It's a gulf in legislation that will be going through if for labor a more centrist position albeit that you say it's actually shifted somewhat to the left during this current election if a fatty is the case what do you think the 1st order of day should be for a new leader be they feel metal mile I think the new leader leads to bring together the various factions of the party I mean I think organizations like momentum have been responsible for driving on multiple but an awful lot of people away from the Liberal Party there was a mantra that was and if you like it clear off and join the Tories Well you know when you keep telling people that eventually they get the message and that's what they do so there's a job today to get together. The party welcome people into the party who are prepared to work together and develop what I would come to at the sensible center left option. Something which which can be described as on the other fringes of left wing politics I think we need to move towards a much more center left I've never liked the term centrist I've never considered myself to be particularly centrist I see myself as on the left but. Not that far less about a God So that's what the new leader needs today Tom Brady thanks for taking the time Southam a good to talk to you thank you Tom Beattie The Labor leader of Corby bar accounts all responding to comments from Sally Keeble earlier on this morning on the breakfast show here on b.b.c. Radio Northampton as the newly elected M.P.'s take their seats in parliament Labor licking its wounds perhaps Tom Beattie suggesting that the new Labor leader whoever he or she should be should be coming from away from London perhaps for a new kind of politics less London centric. Time to be answered by even after the latest on travel there and with that here's clash of thanks very much still seeing these nasty delays on the a 45 and valley way queuing on the eastbound approach to the a 43 element up way that delay all the way back almost to the m one now I'm afraid is sort of joining with the queue only a 5 or 8 northbound through road now reports of an accident are coming in now is also causing a knock on effect a long way away which is really struggling on the approach and also the 85 awaits our London road out of Northampton queuing on the approach the a 45 as well but we haven't had any confirmation from the police just yet you can see on the camera say do let us know if you have any more information about what that huge queue is it's also very busy around the Charles Moore roundabout still the a 6 particularly on the southbound side through on the approach through a 5 a 9 that is queuing in both directions and also it's very slow because of the works on the a 5 way inland port between Lamport a mate that was causing They still a 3 a 14 in the m one thankfully running quite well at the moment if you spot a problem close call on 0800. 5 I'm crashed out the next update is in 15 minutes.
