Helps migrants from refugees integrate and adjust to new lives in Norfolk He says it's very challenging for people whose lives have been turned upside down we work with newly arrived communities and individuals so usually refugees poncy the migrants well but it is difficult we are working with law only a from a different cultural country but also they usually have gone through some form are though they're also dealing with those issues the chief inspector of probation says people would be safer if the supervision of offenders in England and Wales were brought back into the public sector Dame Glenna Stacey says the system of using private firms to monitor low medium risk offenders his irredeemably flawed is tiny short the message from Dame Glen is Stacey could hardly be clearer the partial privatization of probation hasn't worked and it would be better if there was a national approach delivered by the public sector Dame Glenys says turning offender management into a series of contractual requirements and measurements has proved to be virtually impossible with most of the private companies involved but forming poorly and judicial confidence in community sentencing at serious risk ministers acknowledge the probation model isn't working and say they're carefully considering how best to deliver an effective service after the current outsourcing contracts come to an end next year scientists here in Norfolk are investigating the smell of spring in the air and what that smell means for the environment the earth a smell after a rainfall or cutting the grass comes from molecules released by bacteria in the soil known as just man Professor Mark but now the head of Microbiology at the John in a center knowledge is trying to find out more humans like the smell of Jaws man but they don't like the taste of it so if it if it contaminates mineral water for example or drinking water it gives that musty taste which we don't like maybe see radio Norfolk news sports news now here's Chris Core can start. Fans will get the chance to meet the riders said head of the new Speedway season stay the club holds its annual open day at the Adrian flux arena from 4 o'clock this afternoon and is now just a week to go until the new campaign begins north young subject from Paul fleet to Sun professional terms with Leicester Tigers rugby club the scrum half scored a try for England under eighteen's in one of their recent internationals there was quite a moment in Scottish football last night for a former canary house and Johnston got their 1st win in 9 games in the Scottish Premiership beating St Mirren one nil but for minority striker Simeon Jackson missed a penalty for St Mirren her bottom of the table he tried to chip it down the middle and has been roundly criticized this morning here is the moment as it unfolded on B.B.C. Scotland Well how big a moment my this proved to be certainly rooms season can they go in front and pair of semi or Jack should have a barrier that was can I start right away but if you're preparing to put there in the middle they just dribble their own serve their court was able to do it to where I don't get that shock of absolutely shocked at a harm or kill me on board. There's More Where That Came From a power play more of it later Chelsea have reached the semifinals of the Women's Champions League after scoring a stoppage time goal to beat Paris Sandra Man $32.00 over 2 legs they lost to one in Paris on the night but that late goal made all the difference I need to see that it sounds pretty shocking yes it was not it's not his finest moments I mean Jackson but the reaction afterwards there's more to that commentary which all I'm saving up from Berlin boy tease a city to stay with the 735 that Chris thank you 6 months past 7 it come out of breakfast on B.B.C. Radio the. B.B.C. Radio Norfolk weather and a council is a threat Seanie. Very good morning to you Well it is quite cloudy a mild start of the day that it's going to be quite a nice day and I think it should tend to brighten UP a lot of the clouds will shift it towards eastern areas that we may just keep a cloud for much of the day is really towards the West spoke to see the best of the brightness and the sunshine it will stay dry. Winds are very light and in the sunny spells we get them out towards the west and feel quite pleasant I think with the highs of around 13 to 15 degrees Celsius perhaps it was 12 and 13 where we keep cloud day for much of the day but I'm hyper with bright spells just about everywhere and then I have a night tonight is joyride lots of clay skies around and temperatures will drop off perhaps low enough to get a touch of frost on the grass and tomorrow morning still 2 or 3 degrees tomorrow more sunshine around just about everywhere lots of police guy around gets about sunshine in the best of days sunny styles 15 or 16 degrees to feel lovely and warm for this time of year and then over the weekend it will gradually 10 cloudy and cooler but of course it will stay dry Let's take a look at the coastal What is the cost for today then site we've got Gibraltar points north pole in the wind that are able becoming southerly with south westerly like to 3 or less occasionally for later in the north the sea states need all slight the weather fair and the visibility will be good Elizabeth it's a nice B.B.C. Radio for quite that. 8 minutes past 7 May come at a breakfast on B.B.C. Radio Norfolk good to have a company that we're talking about the spring we have the Spring Equinox last week when the spring revealed arrived Well one of the places a special smell that most meteoroid from the ground which is most noticeable when temperatures start to warm up and the April showers have added a bit of moisture to the soil to find out more about that and that smell later in the program as discussing Atlanta held that it's got the story for you this morning Alan know exactly what she means but I don't know how to describe that smell interesting report in the paper yesterday about a woman who's got such an acute sense of smell she believes that she can smell the presence of Things like to mention cancer Parkinson's and apparently medically there is something in this dog's Apparently I'll try in this way and they can smell things like shame as I subsequently bonkers when I saw I was like yeah whatever when you read it a party there is. Bit of scientific proof behind this and that yes people can have a really sensitive sense of smell and that sounds nice but apparently this can happen people can smell things inside the human body which of course would need medical detection 080-389-7321 of joining us this morning would love to have you on the 1st you claim you've got a really cute sense of smell and we are talking breast cancer on the program this morning a special service to help women with breast cancer has been set up in partnership with Marks and Spencer and keeping abreast nor it should find out more about that later a top top story this morning yeah you guessed it Bret said the government is trying to save the Prime Minister's breaks a deal after M.P.'s voted to reject 8 alternative plans last night the options were supposed to help find a consensus over how to leave the E.U. But I think if anybody sat down and said let's have it at the history of the way which he then piece of votes and what the said in the past didn't as is going to be a consensus that breaks it Secretary Steven Barkley said the results strengthened ministers views that their deal was the best option that's 2 reason why still by the way the Labor M.P. And the chairman of Parliament's breaks it committee Hilary Benn is not convinced 2 of the propositions are customs union and a confirmation river and. More votes in the House of Commons than the Prime Minister's deal when it was defeated for the 2nd time so the break Secretary got up and said The answer is to vote for the promises deal on a 3rd occasion when he can argue that there are 2 proposals with more votes even than she managed last time M.P.'s who want another referendum on Bracks it have expressed optimism the idea may win the backing of Parliament next week the proposal was one of the 8 options for breaks it was defeated in the Commons yesterday but it was only rejected by a margin of $27.00 votes advocates of the plan including Labor's Liz Kendall believes a consensus is developing I am really true that the idea of putting whatever agreement is my back to the public in a confirmation vote I'm really pleased that that got the most votes of any option that was voted on. There clearly is support for a very different plan from to resume a she's all along said it's my plan on no plan but actually there's big support for a softer Breck's it with a customs union or some way of protecting the economy OK Well one thing I would say about all these M.P.'s are coming out they're saying look this is what we should go for this is what we should go for just be very careful because there are 2 sides to this and it takes 2 to tango and the other side is the E.U. And they may not be so receptive and warm to some of these overtures coming across the channel because they're said to this point no no no no the deal is the deal and if you want to come back if you want to extend then what we want to see is a general election or we want to see a referendum and that referendum needs to include the deal that's on the table rather than changes to the deal which we have negotiated over the last 2 years so you've got a bit of dancing around with the E.U. To do before we can really realistically talk about next steps now away from the drama in Westminster How do people in Norfolk feel about the current deadlock in the 2016 referendum a huge majority of voters in Great Yarmouth chose to leave the E.U. But nearly 3 years on how do they feel about breaks it now our political reporter Joe Thewlis has been finding out. Well it was funny in Great Yarmouth and of course I'm a chip stands on the market and I've come to find out how people feel about it now 3 years ago more than 70 percent of voters in this town voted to leave the E.U. That's the 5th highest turnout in the country so I want to find out 3 years on if people have changed their minds or if they still feel the same I think we should leave and leave with no do you. Adware How do you feel that it looks like we're not going to leave on the 29th now I think it's a farce it should have been dorm by pick a committee from all the parties and that should have all arranged for the best daylight and just over intimate as your opinion changed over the past couple of years no I still think we should be our own country of our own roles but we need sort of paying all that money out to them we need to put it back into our country to stop do what they want it to to vote for tonight I'm settled here what about the current situation just makes you feel hopeless lost cause really us we're all at the think most people don't and some lost causes of it do you want to file Have you feel about but sick and confused overall more than anything. No to you process but yeah just generally confused about it if we had a 2nd photo you know then appreciate. I just want to stay and if we can go over. The deal from Begin I think you know there has been no deal for. And how do you feel that we should be leaving fairly soon and does little really even for a couple weeks yet we will my daddy will play on paper are now taking forever I mean of what I was a whole idea author in our opinion our point and it's not been falling for it would you vote to leave or remain No I vote. And how do you feel about the current situation now no wonder North Rovers was. What would you not see happen or watch the. Other was to come over was that all done for was but you get I don't think it's good but they make a plan let's see what is going to what would you like to see happen no no leave yet no changes so how do you feel being Portuguese living in the U.K. At the moment I'm not to fly them leaving him 15 years my one man here for me I'm not afraid of the moment but I think another people ever been the fight because they're here 6 months one year it's not too good for them but let's all but photo of the politicians not deciding what to do nobody know what's history you should have a good idea what to do and you know to Mark Foster to take part in the referendum of 080 So has anything happened in the past 3 years to change your mind or do you still feel the same but I think what's often is more reinforced the peace will stop in your opinion the people don't know what's going to be a big problem in future and if you vote to stop him she will be all this. You know . Politicians people of US You might not agree with it but what democratic process is all about. How do you feel about price it is quite frankly I'm sick of hearing about it I think the country made a decision they should stick to it and get on with a with making Britain great again he said Make me Britain phrase again how do you think you'll be outside I don't regret I do honestly think it'll be great Australia New Zealand the cow when it yeah it will be good everybody's nervous because you don't know what's going to happen but we've been there before you know run in Europe before we thought all this happened and I thought I thought were going to be great being in Europe but we're in Ireland and we need more than Europe or people in Great Yarmouth are speaking to our political reporter Joe Thewlis we're going to get right up to speed with where were rats and where we might be going next with our political correspondent Andrew Sinclair that. In about half an hour's time over to you are no 803897321 what you make of last night's developments. One reg Zach leader after trying let's go let's go. From the makers of following your hijack the Chinese called my on down wind up on a clamp is great for a service is murdered in cold blood and you're required in trying to mention trauma don't know swear that you were. To them until we heard tell now the new series of the true long the extent of police corruption has been covered up there's no secrets and starts on Sunday night at 9 am on B.B.C. One. It comes with the travel thank you very much are no major problems I'm aware of at the moment checking around the census still quite quite across the county to be honest the only thing that's come in this morning at Brandon creek said varied apparently partly blocked in both directions with a collision that shouldn't cause you too much trouble if you cannot dates me 080-389-7321. Well everyone that comes out of breakfast on B.B.C. Radio Norfolk 718 you're like this story rocket mom pop royalty exclusive in the sun the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle has asked the superstar Elton John to teach her baby the piano the musician Paolo Prince Harry famously played at the couple's wedding reception last year and now Megan below has said that he'd be perfect to teach unborn child the piano which the child due next month. A royal source said mega Harry adore Elton and love to sing at their wedding Meghan has been a saying that he's the perfect person to teach their child the piano is he really the perfect person to pick teach their child the piano sing as he's on top most of the time lives around the world and so I should imagine those lessons would rather sporadic and anybody who knows who's played musical instrument you have to practice frequently you should really have $1.00 to $2.00 lessons per week also you have to really want to learn it as well which is you know even born yet it's kind of hard to judge yet she's a very good point you think is a bit of an issue that we have here she said to me you know my children. For Erin river Margaret would you like them to play the piano Yeah I'd love to play piano we really confident in the musical instrument but I'd like them to lead the way our age but I'd like them to lead the way on what they really want to do rather than me saying I really think you should play the flute or you should be you know. The sax oftenest. But I picked the noisy ones 1st thing and also yet pick pick the cheap instruments government is a very expensive recorder they're. Going. But daughters of the Tommy finish school you'd be great in the triangle and she was very young when I learnt piano but it's because I had a little tiny toy one and I would not leave it alone my parents were going to have to get us and did you play the piano then I did most of my life can you play the piano now wow OK it's well it's world piano day tomorrow Tim says we're going to get used to requests it's Amaury Greta this how it is not the answer to your Hebrew . In the back of a car and Billy So do you really think they're now going to have a lift in today for you to get it it will be here tomorrow OK I will be thousands more in all that's fantastic So we're going to request ph I said she OK I want you to do your song Elton John you can do it yes wow OK I said you are right by having faith. It's a bit rubbish on piano if I can try OK. If I said you know anything about the prodigy then how the how how broad of the anything but to lose everything my muse about new music good anything by Muse yeah needs is easier than the prodigy but it's to give it a go OK or anything could happen. I'm looking for it that's more interestingly very creative shared experience you have very bad experiences there of customer service OK I pulled into a petrol carriage and the way in which is set out these was reefer they frustrate me if somebody is on the 4 pump you can't get to the back part right OK so I thought right I will do the the sociable thing here and I will pull forward to the fore part of the cars behind me to get to the back pump very nice with a good article shock horror I want to jump out of my car and I realize it wasn't diesel I'll be putting in my car but something called diesel diesel ultimate right so it's expensive I just you know when it's just gone from one to knowledge about 150 and I'm thinking now gosh what controversy this point is pulled in by me so I thought I'll put about you know 50 quid in the time my car takes about 50 quid in the tank they always say that's good to run this stuff through the engine out of that chair was just a myth but the reality that so I filled it is so frustrating is the thing will trigger So there I am and yes it is an egg trigger so you trigger it and then all the sudden it kind of pulls up there's nothing coming out so you pull a little bit and you can feel that and then all the bang nothing was getting about I was getting this feeling about blasts of 3 seconds so to me ages and after 30 pounds I thought well now you know yeah I'm giving up the stuff that we're going to sell. I'm giving up so much in the shop pickle queue this lorry on the other side of the pump to go Q Well the man in front. Or quite a few men in front he was filling up his lorry was on one of these cards his company cards Well this poor girl can work the tail so she had to reboot the till his card wouldn't work rebooted till there was a count of 15 people in the queue day it took me I timed it it took me 18 minutes. People are starting to get really it she and they're getting very frustrated with Britain's And I was listening but they're getting it she can see people going yeah. Yeah bristling and they're looking at how they go. The man then didn't take the lead and say look I'm going to stand one side to save the other customers 1st rather than rebooting your system for the 6th time I thought doing if I was running now I'm not saying these are hard to stand there patiently eventually we did all get to the front and then you all standing face to face with the with the cashier what would you say if you're in her position if you're in her position what would you say they've been waiting 3 am very very sorry for the delay terribly sorry for the delay we have a problem that is terrible and at that point they are just a few don't worry about it no major said which part. And I thought red rag to a bull Well no I didn't I did it something got wrong. Didn't I didn't I didn't go for No I didn't I thought you know. You know placid really doesn't know I have a pussycat I am a pussy cat I don't go for people and I thought I looked I thought about you having a worse day than I am I don't have any today for 80 minutes away for 8 hours so. I thought I'm not going to say anything. But I would like to talk about really bad customer service actually you had a couple of examples recently of really back of you another in a moment really bad customer service 803897321 if you're joining us this morning OK 724 Nick Conrad. 1st it's time to build a mass movement against racism in Norwich that's the message being promoted tonight at a public meeting it's been organized by the group stand up to racism which is the branch in the city it says it's fighting the far right and Islamophobia locally recent figures from Norfolk play show that racial hate crimes have increased year on year in fact is doubled from 2013 to 2017 with more than 550 cases however context in that time more people are coming forward to report hate crimes has been a huge public drive trying to raise awareness the fact that it's a crime is never going out on television at the moment so you can imagine that people are more inclined to speak of the place and also the criteria of what is considered as a as a hate crime as well you could argue the bar has been lowered somewhat in the eyes of some people let's talk more about this with Mike Waterman from the nor a stand up to racism group which is organized tonight's meeting in the studio this morning good morning good morning good morning nice to see let me give you this line I think it's interesting you're fighting the far right and Islamophobia locally here in knowledge explain I think really there's 2 words some stand up to racism one is solidarity with individuals and communities facing racism and it's organization organization to a night where everyone who cares to do something about it and I'll give you a couple of weeks examples that really started there and see last week after Lee atrocity in chorus church a local mosque. That may change for everyone and communities show their solidarity with the Muslim community we went along we publicized our our spoke at that meeting and we worked. To be working with the Muslim community to really against Islam phobia and racism the organization is a couple of weeks ago it was un anti racism Terry and nationally stand to racism have fantastic there no in London 25000 people we had a coach we organise to coach for people to go to knowledge so it's me. Now you can people actually fill the not alone when they were actually stand up and want to do something about writers and there's nothing not to like about what you're saying and I I hardly give you a run of applause for the actions you took especially not that Trotty ever in New Zealand and how wonderful to have the communities coming together standing side by side and showing that we have great compassion and care for each other but I put to you that's not really fighting the far right and Islamophobia that's working for the greater good and highlighting the positivity that we have in society let me ask you this is race isn't the kind of big issue that lots of people would like to have you believe it is here in Norfolk really I think it is and I think it's a growing one I don't think you know it you know for can be isolated from what's happening all around the world it was a huge movement and a movement varies with leave from you know when politicians are in things that prices them to will very serious fascist drugs on the street and you're saying that prices are hungry but also here I think can you give me some names examples the right wing politicians who have been staring up tight in the US I think the things that Johnson of said about Muslims and dehumanizing was amiss with some of these comments have been very helpful you know and you've got the rise in what's happening now particularly with the Ukip with those with Tony Robinson and Tony Robinson has certainly been stirred up and he mostly in hatred so you've got the people on the streets and the thing is we are asked about what we're actually doing to fight it I mean there's been a couple of instances last few months when the people around supporters of Germany Robinson have actually said we're going to City Hall we're going on this city hall and 2 weeks ago we took the steps of City Hall and I didn't go anywhere near them do you have a slightly careful line that you got to trade him because I mean you tell me if I'm wrong it sounds to me like you're accusing boys Johnson directly that. Of racism his supporters and maybe Mr Johnston self would say far from it they're expressing their political beliefs and views and protecting freedom of speech in this country I'm sure you'd accept is incredibly important so where is that line because you're using it to examples which are people however abhorrent we might find what they say expressing their political views rather than directly targeting people but I hardly think it's online is what politicians have to be extremely careful because there were people who were actually take it a lot further and that's the problem is politicians aren't careful and not just politicians but the newspapers and all the stereotypes of my concern refugees and Muslims and so what they're doing. So what they're doing is encouraging the extreme right the fascists the Nazis who are growing and encouraged here by the growth of such groups over saves there's no doubt about it influential speakers may well exacerbate may well fuel those kind of that rise in sentiment but I suppose you could argue it goes back both ways with any kind of extremism far right far left extremism I guess that both the same. Question of the effect of of the 2 things the effect of the far the fact of the races that is to our people is to make people feel threatened I would argue in the salon which of hate I would argue that the left in the things that we're talking about is actually bringing communities together and actually the positive things about human nature in terms of caring and compassion right OK You just you just let me into a very interesting area there could have identified yourself as left let me put this to you being anti racism is not about being left wing or right wing being anti racism is not about the political party that you support being anti racism is about sitting in front of me here and having a conversation or 2 equals despite the fact you're white and I'm black why bring politics into it because it's so the case that it's not a question of what political party you mean that's certainly. Stand up to racism has got all people of different political parties in it but I don't think it's and I want to know why but I don't recall the 6 into it because let me put this to you if you truly are anti racism if you truly believe in inclusion and bringing people together then political parties has no part in this what's what I think they do because political parties have an ability because they were organizing our nation because of their history because of the military to actually bring people together I think they have what's important if you don't exclude people from being in a political particular political party or not being in a political party before but then they said the accident that directly is the president of the national stand up to racism and I think it's any accident in. Nationally there our lives are and I went along all right when I say green parents really think evolved as you well certainly when you say it's no accident Diane Abbott surely Diane Abbott needs to be the chairman because of her experience very sadly of racism the fact that she was the 1st female black M.P. That she has been a very proactive anti racism campaigner for many many years who should be exceptionally respected rather than the fact that she's a member of the Labor Party now but it but the fact is the she is and I don't think there's any accident in the light party's broke something like Bradley has got a tradition of actually fighting them but it's also got a massive problem that the Senate isn't like Well I think I think that's an interesting point and I'm going to write a book point about that I think the instances of anti Semitism I think I think the instances of anti Semitism the that we're talking about happening when Jewish cemeteries appear in the Far East when Jewish people are in north London who was attacked for being Jewish so I think that Santa racism has a duty to actually look at every case of the anti semitism Islamophobia and actually say we are opposed to that and we're going to fight it and we do fight all forms of racism and that's important isn't that across the board though isn't it perhaps want what you've said is it's all an across the board regardless of anything to do absolutely to do with politics politically gins whatever your background whatever you believe whatever your faith we stand together equally and one of the great things about fighting racism is to say I will defend you even if I completely disagree with you in many ways because we will not tolerate a society where somebody is separated because of the color of their skin that's being anti-racist groups are looking to tell you on the program this morning thank you very much they come at a breakfast on B.B.C. Radio and off at 732. They come here to. This morning thank you very much well checking around on the census a. Few things are coming in at the moment 817 if you are heading towards King's there and reports of a collision just before the poll of a roundabout for the A 47 to do be careful we'll have separate reports of a collision and tearing to think Clemens is well on station right partly partly blocked as well and Brandon creek said spend very that's also partly got both directions with a collision not major right that one but to take care if you are used to using it if you can update me over 803897321. Morning breaks that the prime minister agreed to resign in Parliament can't decide on the way forward and the government found out again with the speaker of the Commons just another normal day for M.P.'s at Westminster now whilst they argue and the uncertainty for all of us grows our political correspondent Andrew Sinclair spent yesterday Westminster. And he says it's ever a very good morning and then a huge event yes they have a lot of he went down in a dog groomer that's very late you can deal with. I mean I think the big talking point the big dramatic event last night was the prime minister really pressing the nuclear button and saying look I'm so keen to get my deal through Parliament I know many of you don't like the idea of me handling the Brits in negotiations therefore I am prepared to resign but please approach for my deal so she's completely put her job on the line No she said I will go please but my deal if I can get it through parliament and this is something which has had some effect it has to be said in persuading M.P.'s to switch last night's the very influential audience Brick City John Whittingdale so that he would now be supporting the prime minister I spoke to a couple of other bricks it is last night who said yeah we're way RIM We might just change our minds as well and decides to vote for this deal so it's had some effect but probably not enough worth remembering that it was the mid north again P. George Freeman who 1st suggested that the prime minister should stand down to try to get this deal through parliament and last night he told me she'd done the right thing what she said tonight was I promised the British people I would deliver breaks it for the public services in my life please put country before party put country before Korea I will do the same I will stand down but let's get withdrawal over the line and I think what you're going to see now is many of the hard core conservatives he's been opposed to not liking this or that bit of it can see. But better to get back to through and then another leader another debate another day to discuss the future relationship how will this go down with your constituents they'll be more interested in where the breaks it goes through than who is leading the Conservative Party honestly I think that's where we've now got to and I think what they want to see is the end to this shall we respect the referendum result a lot we have to respect the referendum result and I think the PM tonight has bought the support to get with 2 or 3 most interesting to not respect in the referendum result because a number of options were put in front of Parliament yesterday in the hope that some direction was going to go now you call this correctly many times by saying that it's probably a bit of a futile process because we know the water is really clouding the money at the moment in Westminster and there is no clear direction I suppose last night then that was made even more explicitly clear Yeah and it's best summed up by the front page of this morning's Guardian which says Parliament says no no no no no no no no yes 8 different options before M.P.'s last night everything from revoking all school 50 to holding another referendum to leaving without any deal at all none of those ideas could command a majority in parliament last night and really this is very very very serious because it shows that there is no clear way forward no one else has any idea about how we get out of this mess which we found ourselves in the one anymore of hope for those people who hopes that parliament might be able to find a way forward is that 2 of the motions last night got more votes than the Prime Minister's deal got when it was lost to the parliament and those 2 options were one as having a much closer relationship with Europe outside the E.U. But staying very close to staying in the Common Market The other was this idea of having a 2nd referendum a so-called people's vote those 2 ideas got a few more votes than the Prime Minister's deal got when she represents its parliament but it was by no means a majority and. So this morning M.P.'s. And the rest of us are just looking at what is we can only describe as a complete mess and saying Where on earth do we go from here or can any of those ideas command any more support Well we might get a few more votes but that's about it and then of course what about the Prime Minister's deal Yeah well the problem is the prime minister to where is that where does that really leave the private system because he still hang on to his injury Well she's well yes she still maintains that the deal she's negotiated which she says look at took me 2 years to negotiate it's a pragmatic brick that it leads us out of the E.U. Into a transition period so business travelers and the rest of us won't notice any direct changes and so we've completely negotiated our new relationship with the E.U. She believes that the best deal she's still sticking to it and yes she has won round some. Some of those bricks it is by agreeing to stand down but looking at the figures it's still not enough on top of that the day you pay the Democratic Ulster Unionists or at the moment saying they can't support the deal so it's very hard to see if she gets it back in Parliament if she can get it across the line and I say if she gets it back in parliament because the other little problem we had yesterday just if we didn't have enough of them was that the speaker made it very clear that he's not going to allow the prime minister to bring her back to Parliament for a vote unless they're all substantial changes to it and we know that a substantial changes to it because the E.U. Hasn't allowed this to reopen the negotiations and in a sense nothing has changed since December. In terms of the E.U. The E.U. Holding firm on this as you said and they're saying that the deal is the Dail promises saying the deals on the table and I'll bring it back if I get a chance and I think that I'm going to win this and others at the moment appear to be warming towards the idea reluctantly but there's a. I have an issue here in terms of whether it will be able to come back in front of the chamber again because the speaker said it's got to change nature but what is interesting is how come that deal got changed nature back in front of the chamber but these are indicative votes don't have to change in nature when they go back in front of the chamber they all voted on again on Monday Well the. This is all part of the process of parliament taking control when Parliament's at its all a little bit Holliman trip procedurally but put as simply as possible when Parliament's agreed on this procedure of having indicative votes part of the procedure was that we would have another debate a Monday between the 2 most popular ideas so they'll be another debate on Monday between the idea of a new the referendum and staying in the Customs Union having a close relationship with the E.U. So they'll discuss That's a Monday that could be a way forward but as I was saying looking at the votes last night there is by no means a majority throughout all those urges there's by no means a majority for the Prime Minister's deal so where on earth do we go I hate to say this but the dreaded word general election was being talked about a lot last night there could be one way forward we just don't know at the moment yes it is thank you for that Andrew Sinclair following the twists and turns that is breaks it for a 71 I weigh 203897321 what do you make of what happened in Parliament yesterday 746. Radio Norfolk front page the papers this morning what breaks it breaks it breaks it more breaks it so there's not a great deal inside the papers this morning apart from analysis analysis and more analysis but I suppose we are check talking around in circles breaks at the moment and it's interesting as. Into this into after Sinclair's analysis that we just don't feel any clearer on what the actual final outcome might be and tomorrow of course was meant to be a deadline of the day that we left the European Union will continue to follow the twists and turns for you on the program today we were celebrating a Black Forest day something on a stick day and we'd appreciation day now trying to reach about this something on a stick day when I saw this I was a little bit confused as to what something on a stick day actually means but this is we're talking we're talking lollipops and sweets not going to something lollipops we're talking kid Babs we're talking cheese on the steaks that kind of thing right and give you a little pricey you know the invest in the last 6 months Nick was born on honeymoon in Toronto I had a cold dog which was a hot dog sausage wrapped in no no sorry no call no president hold on sausage wrapped in pretzel dog on a stick. I want all I want least to come to this country. Is amazing is that the words releasing of the season that I'm not going to have to get into like fly back into this country Saleem I was in Peru it was something called a Ben Boston burger and honestly it was the meatiest nicest Bear gave ever taste in your life and I remember having a rather well conversation with a chap where I was trying to explain to him the idea of a franchise not that I was. Going to take this concept back to Britain but I said these are so good you need a franchise and don't just go to London you want to go to the provincial cities and they speak English so yeah I can really communicate that in Spanish and Emma just there in the truck to shelter can we end this conversation now please but it was a long stick it wasn't on a stick so it does not count OK to go and something on a stick day loads of things including this but did it this must be originated from the international stick society doesn't that she say where it originates from it's all about celebrating a feast we love to eat it just happened to come on a stick who doesn't love relaxing if he can pick up by the steak in 8 whether it's a toughie Apple campfire sausage chief. Ice cream bars lollipops or other lovely treats feel free to indulge in them on this day I want to try the American food on a stick if you can the famous cold dog OK What about planning an entire start a main course and disaster on steaks easy in the form of the fun I'm with varied up leading up to do afterwards what a great theme for dinner parties have something on a steak. I really. Want to see a face in the same as a chicken on a stick. Yeah I know pecial station. I did it myself the other day OK I didn't get to pick it up no I had a bit of a long journey the other day and I found it quite difficult long journeys because I'm going to think about where I'm going to stop to eat so I walked into a service station in mid limbs and always brands of never heard of this one single Walk King which was really nice you walked past it was lovely like Chinese and. And and Thai food predominantly love that and then there was this Polish shop which I quickly passed because I do like a poly but very fancy one for a service station then you got a usual K.F.C. And kings in the McDonald's and you got M. And S. So I walked in and I went and got one of these really low fat kind of smoked salmon salads. And I thought just want a treat because it's all for you walking back and seeing all these wonderful fried chicken in tossed around as people munching on burgers like there I am with my very nice but honey soaked mustard salmon with Bulgar wheat and and salad and so I thought I'm going to go and get a sticky chicken on a stick and it is again $100.00 calories per steak I shared one I had one and the girls with have the other very nice very nice kids and I'm glad it's not going to really knock me over them but good skids I also like cocktail sausages as well oh yeah Yeah absolutely yeah I'll go for those yet now that the kids are celebrating things on a stick today not pensioners we're celebrating. Can celebrate their mothers I'm celebrating things on a stick today pitching on that 103897321 now we've had the spring equinox last week but when does spring really arrive one of the clues is a special smell that earthy almost meatier Roma from the ground which is most noticeable when temperatures start to warm up and the April showers have added a bit of moisture to the soil and a hill has been for a walk with Professor Mark Butler the head of Microbiology at the Joint Center he's been researching how this special smell is generated and what it means for the environment which comes 1st real by the river. And being sloshing around a bit we're just coming past a beautiful tree in full blossom when we talk about spring. The special moments of spring that actually tell us spring has grown one of them is the smell of earth that you get as the as the season warms up and that smell is quite distinctive isn't it what is the smell it's a compound called JAWS mine which is made by bacteria called stuck to my seas that live in the soil how do you spell Jules meant is that like Jasmine No G E O O S M I N stuck to my seas of famous bacteria because they're very good at making all kinds of specialized metabolites So not just jaws mean this molecule that gives that spring like smell but also they're responsible for making the vast majority of the world's antibiotics and so when we're smelling this just men always. Strip to my scenes running Yes So you're smelling soil but actually what you're smiling is a molecule released by bacteria in the soil can you describe the smell it's that classic earthy odor that you get when you're digging the garden or when you're walking through the woods just after it's rained so you human beings can smell this molecule joins me and far more sensibly than sharks can smell blood in the water really yeah that is surprising eighty's and and they like the humans like the smell of Jocelyn but they don't like the taste of it so if it if it contaminates mineral water for example or drinking water it gives that musty taste which we don't like. With the sun's come out now when we are warming up we're out of the the northerly wind so if we went down on the ground here and. Police dead leaves a way to lift up this I'm going to have a little sniff. Can we smell it we certainly can all yes you see I don't normally put my nose right and listen well if you really can smell it very strongly Yes that is just mean there is just me and Yes And what about you do you notice it yourself now more if you are going for. Absolutely although my labs smell so strongly of those bacteria all the time that I think I'm a bit she waited so my nose is burned out somewhat. How important is it then that stripped my C.S. In the soil is almost communicating then tree this volatility to the rest of the environment does it trigger anything so that's what we're working on at the moment so I can't answer that question but we think it does have a signalling more function yes and they're very important for the ecology of the soil so as separate fights they're largely responsible for the degradation of plant material in the soil and that leads to the creation of fertile soil it's a very interesting thing you say that we like the smell but we don't like the taste Jasmine is also made by some plants the plant that makes most beetroot and that earthy taste in beetroot is the same molecule and maybe that's why some people don't like the taste of beetroot Personally I like them a lot it quite a lot of people don't know yet and it's that molecule interesting isn't it I found that so interesting to get underneath the soil and to hear that report about actually what is happening down there and while we can smell we often say you can smell spring in the air that's what your pure smelling I often feel I can smell summer in the air as well that rather sweet smell of summer. Autumn has got that kind of Dampier rottenly smell which is lovely isn't it and then winter has this very odd how he explain the smell of winter. Very clean crisp smell isn't it but definitely I feel there is an earthy smell in autumn and it's. Lights a kind of smell I smell in spring there's definitely something it would clearly there's something in it the science is there but I thought that was really interesting to hear that report this morning and it does fit in very nicely to a story that moment about smell this woman in the paper yesterday fascinating she can actually smell her smell is so acute she can smell. Things like the presence of cancer Cheema as Parkinson's dementia in the human body now on 1st reading you kind of dismiss it and say oh this is bonkers. Believe this but she probably there is some science to back it up and dogs can have really acute sense of smell as we know obviously and they also can be trained to smell certain conditions so maybe there is some truth in this if you have got a really cute sense of smell maybe you know a bit more about than I do I weigh 20389732 wanted to keep my interest yesterday just reading a couple of stories I don't know much about it but if you do know about it or if you have got a very acute sense of smell over 803897321 if you join in the conversation this morning.
