That we're really excited I mentioned in the introduction that old dogs it's a it's a cracking place it's got a great history as well as man it really has it's a fabulous kit it was built 1st of all in 1952 in the grounds of the old home park and I'm like many circuits like Silverstone for example it is not formed from an old airfield so it undulates and it literally you know it's called Alton park and it is through Parkland and the undulating grounds of it the environment is perfect for the stage that we've got there. Which uses partly the partly the circuit and partly some of the gravel on the inside it's a perfect amphitheater for the public to see what's going on and see these rally because when they're 400 horsepower they're immensely quick phenomenal bits of machine but we have to see them howling their way around the stage we will be a real a real sight you know foam a Formula one driver that they must feel like a dungeon they must be go. Slow because you've sat in the in the seat driven formula Well yeah I have telly but of course we're going to fall into one car you've got you've got a nice smooth bit of asphalt you know exactly what the service is like you've got a big run off areas and you've done emptying practice laps and quantify laps but these guys these guys who jump in there on the cars are going around in all sorts of ways they have virtually no. Practice in fact the one practice they do get is 10 past 5 on the Thursday afternoon that's on the Thursday the 3rd of October that's the 1st time they'll see the stage and then when they go around it they can go around it however how around like a former long current practice they'll just go around slowly because those are the rules in a road car before they'll jump in 7 o'clock in the evening for the for the actual rally special stages and that will be the 1st and only time they'll drive that stage at speed so it's a it's a very different challenge and then of course when you get out in the forest and whales you know it's it's. It was a said you have already seen the brave swimmers taking a dip at the Marine like carrot New Brighton just outside there they were like yes when is it cold or when yes it's absolutely fine and like I was there you know it's just it's cold it's wonderful and we are here now a little bit further along where the old line used to be and of course you know one used to be here in New Brighton there was one in Wallasey and no doubt all over the country appeared and then disappeared again Well one lady who would like to bring that back and many people no doubt behind is that Deborah Aden who is campaigning to bring the lighter back here to New Brighton I'm going to talk to Chris sure as well who's one of those mad dippers and have a chat with him about outdoor swimming in a moment but Good morning Deborah morning tell us a little bit about what the Lido here used to look like here in New Brighton It was absolutely stunning it was one of the most beautiful pieces of art deco architecture designed by the bar engineer and built by unemployed workers through a job creation scheme and it had capacity 412000 spectators it was a 100 metres long is a beautiful mushroom shape with a huge diving board and it was incredibly popular for decades and decades so then you know that awful thing why did it then close what is the same story with a lot of light as around the country it was partly people going on package holidays but it was also about lack of investment the way that local government funding was restructured and the building of a lot of indoor pools and so a lot of the pools went maintained so people it wasn't such a great experience people stopped coming and they went into a downward spiral but all over the country in the last 5 or 10 years lighters have been revived by community groups and by councils under pressure from community groups and they're really thriving every one of them is showing growth year on year it's a huge movement around the country and around the world actually so what's your interest in it then Deborah were you one of those secret sort of dipping into the very cold waters I'm definitely not one of those no I'm not as interested as Chris and his colleagues I love like oh it's because you've got all the benefits of outdoor swimming so you've got your out in nature you're breathing gorgeous it's just a beautiful experience you're underneath the sky. But you've got heated water in an ideal world and you've got showers you've got lifeguards you've got ships Whoa now I'm interested to bring you the nail on the head there so how many people have you got interested so far I mean you've been trying to even look at this for a year now haven't you what are they all thinking about getting a lighter back here in New Brighton what I started with I actually started us and if you email saying look I've got my day I need to come in have a chat with you and see if it's a mid-life crisis or a project and more and more people that this is definitely a project and you should speak to so and so and so the network kind of grow and grow and grow and grow and everybody seems to think it's a great idea so I'm now at the point of actually asking people of that of course the region do we want to pull I put apps and social media feeds on our on Friday it's at people's pool on Twitter Facebook and Instagram and I've been inundated really with people who are interested whether it's people in swing clubs who do triathlons or people who want to day out with the family you know it's something that's something for everyone to light and that's the joy of it it really brings the community together Chris and what is it about outdoor swimming because you've already told me about your face this weekend from swimming from Darby Paul all the way down to the pirate ship I mean goodness me man that's that's not that's a huge swim What is it about outdoor swimming I think it was saying this is just having all this on your doorstep and for donkey's years not really realizing just how fabulous the sea is somewhere to spend your time and improve your wellbeing we we were originally just a small group of folk who swam year round in the but very recently because I was there I was saying there's been a real explosion in interest around kind of well being in cold water swimming and being in the outdoors so we've gone from a very small Nishi group to a very large mainstream feeling group now in the last 2 or 3 days so I think the Lido is kind of catalyzing order time where we're really beginning to see the pairing people away in the indoor through the through the air isn't necessarily in there. House best interests exactly So I mean obviously if these outdoor pools in the light I was kind back I mean yeah as I said to you that for me I couldn't go out there that's I'm not strong enough swimmer for that but the pools the outdoor pools would allow people who might be as you know as keen as I am to have a bit more fun of course of course and the beauty of having a larger Lido is you can cook each a thing you know swimming in there year round but also it enables you to grow in confidence the skills and knowledge is fitness to be able to take advantage of the beautiful coast that we've got so the 2 really working in symbiosis from a fabulous now silly was just saying earlier that you need to use facts on to go worst women in the Sea Is that advisable or is a wetsuit usually enough well Bopara paradoxically the only time the most was put our wetsuits on is in the summer because we've got a species of local jellyfish which may sometimes swim in a little bit of a painful experience but those wet suits come off around about now and we don't Dawn them again until next May or June code is in there but you said it many because it's been a nice sunny weekend where well at the moment it's surprisingly temperatures about 16 degrees in the in the in shore waters it's really the our wonderful shallow bay here responds very quickly to both heat and cold and these glorious beaches here act as a story sheet it's a kind of store the hate and when the water comes in over the top it really warms it up so sometimes in the middle summer it can genuinely feel like the mad why not look like the mad but it can generally feel like you're in a really warm and lovely place to swim but the good thing about the Lido is you'll have that warm and lovely all year round you go there well good luck Deborah obviously you're going to be on telly tonight you're watching that tonight aren't you on the b.b.c.
