The village normally does with the lights out to be honest it's just outside the car dealerships down there you know where that is but if it does change we will let you on the latest on the B.B.C. Web and on line B.B.C. Documentary you can see the pull. Will now last when World Council set up a hardship fund to help people affected by the explosion in new ferry just over 2 years ago more than 80 people they couldn't return home after the explosion this was in March 27th and some of only gone back pretty recently they could be about to receive around $600.00 pounds each from the from the council's cabinet will consider how to allocate the money later on this evening our reporter Jess Robinson is in New funny hopefully without a road sweeper this morning. Or in a 2nd and the schools some of them are still in Burton quite a few of them broke up last week now no doubt there was cheering celebrations from kids and teachers from right across the region but one Liverpool School had a special reason to celebrate Florence Melly primary school very old school very famous school and while some have just been rated outstanding in a new off stead report this is just a year after the inspector said it's not going very well Les requires improvements or have they managed to turn this around in a year going to tell you more later on a brand you give me 5 last week it was it was night clubs the week before cinemas we've never had so many phone calls and stories on this program when it comes to get me fired so the be a brand new subject that is on the way in about 15. P.C. Major measures and. Now following last week's announcement the World Council has set up a hardship fund to help people affected by the explosion a new ferry just over 2 years ago the distribution of the cash is going to be talked about tonight by the Council more than 80 people couldn't return home after the explosion and some of only recently returned back to their place. Support they could be about to receive around $1600.00 pounds each from the phone the council's cabinet will consider how to dish out the money later this evening so will the money go some way to addressing the large ship that many in the town have been through over the past 2 years or so or some may say is it too little too late and should have come a lot sooner Let's talk to our reporter just Robin Suze in new ferry for us this morning just to hear what people in the town think I guess. Again yes we're here at the blast site where 2 years on the barrier is a still up the shops are still boarded up but we're here it's a beautiful bench of plan to see the side of the residents say station and the community learn trust of planted to try and brighten the area up really I'm joined by Marian Grundy who is from money matters shop just up the rage he reports led to the council sort of looking into this hardship phoned me thank you for joining me tell me a bit about the report because you went to the council didn't I did yes the 1st one I wrote as a follow up really to the James Brokenshire meeting I felt that it needed to be publicised impacts that came out from the statements on the impacts that got people's attention they were actually realised that people were still suffering and that the impacts were really quite severe So David Bell from the council came to see me to ask that they were thinking of setting up a hardship funded what was needed and the process dragged on quite a long time. Where we said that the people who would made homeless would need weren't supported when they should have been that needs addressing there were no subsistence living payments all the sorts of things that should have been paid at the time for the victims but weren't and we even went and did on the one show we've done a lot of interviews and every time the council's response is we've already supported the victims now I knew that wasn't true but it was until after I wrote the 1st report that I started to uncover the evidence that proved it and was sent the Freedom of Information figures which proved that the council did not spend any money on supporting the victims other than to provide emergency shelter for just some of those who were made homeless and how does that make people in this community feel because as we look at the blast lies in front of us now it just feels like nothing's happening exactly absolutely nothing is happening to the company he was paid to clear this site might make safe has left it in this dreadful state they didn't finish the job and that's exactly what they did to the victims Terry they didn't if they did. Finished looking after the victims and supporting them with the Freedom of Information figures and with other evidence that I'd already seen come out of the impact statements such as threatening bills from the council all of these sorts of things I wrote them down in a 2nd report so when we met with them last month I had it in writing they couldn't not listen any longer they would not be able to reply with the standard rhetoric of we supported the victims because the proof is there on paper that they haven't and now this fund is the start the very beginning of getting that help I mean the council we spoke to them earlier they say that the government needed to step in and help but it can't all be down so we will Council that's very true it isn't all down to Rural Council and government did choose to pay 2000000 pounds in compensation to Belfast and 7000000 to Salzburg However the safety net that these victims needed in where all was controlled by the emergency management scheme from we were a council that was their 1st safety net and that's the safety net that failed. For now and just as well I think. Craig who's the chair of the new ferry residents' association. How difficult has it been for the past 2 years really as it just felt like a groundhog day just. One day just seems to be you know happening all over again and not getting. Anywhere with this. Yes indeed I mean the problems started for the people affected by the explosion pretty well straight away because most people have said sensible didn't their insurance companies help you but they didn't step in immediately and when people were blasted out on the night they had to come out of their homes their businesses literally in the clothes they were standing up in in some cases that was pajamas children it was quarter past 9 at night children in the pajamas they were taken. A merchant accommodation or elsewhere by the council and other friends family relatives etc But like on following morning they needed clothes to go to school and you know on a Monday morning and it's like where do you go what you do now that's when probably this money that's coming to the victims now should have really come out at that time so that's why we're grateful now that it's being paid out now because what people had to end up doing was borrowing money from friends family looking into their savings but before some people had to go to loan sharks to get money to get by on until if they had insurance that started kicking in and people have still got debts from having borrowed from loan sharks Yeah it's welcome of course any help is . Always welcome but do you feel it's just maybe just a little bit you know too little too late. Yes we say we are grateful for it but it is very much a case of a little too little too late yes this is the still is so much more that needs to be done and it was so unfair as Marian to earlier to say that for example when the explosion happened for 6 weeks after it. Most half the district center was sealed off behind a police cordon as they conduct their investigations and the traders were not able to trade those whose business is still standing some of them weren't so for 6 weeks they had no income whatsoever yet after souls they trade as their complaint after 2 weeks saying oh no one's coming shopping here anymore because of the poisonings the government handed out to the trading community 2000000 pounds in compensation for loss of earnings why couldn't they do that we asked and we were told no why because we're a labor controlled authority in the north that's why that's why we go worst example ever what the north south divide in Britain actually means yeah I mean the government would deny that's the case of course but we had ministers in they didn't come to visit new very Yeah it's true they didn't come to visit new ferry and also neither did there then Council leader Phil Davis recently went we asked him on several occasions to come and talk to us and he never did what is encouraging for us now is that the new council leader packet has now met with us on 2 occasions already in the last 6 weeks and we're very grateful to him for that because he actually is listening to us so we finally feel that we are starting to get somewhere with the council when did you feel that you you had to step in and do this because quite clearly you know you're a confident guy and you know talking on the radio or the media doesn't faze you were tall which point did you think I need to start speaking for people. I think pretty well straight away. Because Marion wasn't directly affected herself she actually works in one of the shops here in the precinct but she lives in Birkenhead But obviously we've had to both as we've had to see our friends here you know our friends neighbors here in New ferry suffer and they are still suffering so this is why it's so important for us to try to find ways to help them and that's why we do it yeah I mean 1600 pounds in your hand this thanks very much I could do a lot with that but when you divide it up over you know just over 2 years it works out to about 6566 pounds a month when you put it like that it's not a great deal of money particularly if you've had to borrow money to get by even to pay back a lot more. That's right and also another point is that the insurance companies were not very forthcoming in coughing up money and when we met James Brokenshire last September I did actually ask him that the government should hold a review into how insurance companies respond in disasters like this because it happened after the floods and then people found they couldn't get their insurers to cough up and we need to know find out why they say it's why do insurers make it so difficult to get money off them when you think that they would help and they don't well I wouldn't hold your breath on the insurance companies because that's been an age old thing where the uprising where there's been an explosion and it's our book I get your point maybe things should should change with that just to finish with what's the plan now what's your 6 month plan now what's going to be going on. Well what's actually going to happen is probably more to do around the community itself we've set up a very Community Land Trust and community land trusts really is where say for example the council can step in and do things but although we are going to be working with the Council it's a group of residents neighbors businesses and volunteers who are going to try to do some regeneration work within this community ourselves and so what we want to do is we want to try to tackle some of the empty properties that are in certainly in the High Street some of the been empty for a long time some of them still damaged by the blast and the owners are not interested in doing anything about them so we're hoping to make some announcements soon about what we're going to be doing and this will happen hopefully before any major regeneration which the council is trying to organize will be able to start trying to acquire sites but let me go to being a counselor. I get asked that question Freek. Yes I have maybe in the future but not too many other things it sounds as though you have thanks for talking to us robins as well reporting live from New ferry for us this morning Mark Craig chair of the new ferry Residents Association and Marion Graham the ride would from money matters might be something you want to pick up with with Roger Phillips when he's on the air this afternoon from midday. Is flying by it's 18 minutes let's bring you up to date with the headlines were all councils cabinet made later to discuss how to allocate money from 820-0000 pound hardship from for those affected by the explosion in new ferry a couple of years ago a measure will expect trains to run as normal between Liverpool Central and homes across cable fault last week it went into the weekends or been sorted now so hopefully you'll be on your way and liberals there is hope in the success of the netball World Cup will encourage more people to take up all returned to the sport and in football your club hopes the injuries suffered by Liverpool's Yes Luci in a horrid cycle against Seville civilian survey or whatever they call themselves this season will not be as serious as 1st feared the left by yet to be stretchered off at Fenway Park in Boston during that 21 defeat supposed to be a friendly how safe and sound like it to make you talk to any footballers of know such things from you know such things that govern the god in the are you know all kinds of stuff sounds like the netball so it sounds like a. B.B.C. Radio travel cap might want to offer me a lot you know I'm $56.00 I'm going to be the heavy traffic at Junction 14 perhaps $30.62 westbound the communion towards Liverpool building up a bit now looking slow at Junction 4 for the rockets and the lights are still out in livable city center my fate our Lead Street and the junction of pound mile traffic has been all right all morning all things considered. Just outside the car dealership there so just bear that one in mind if you do travel through that area of course better news on them as you trains this week Hans cross-line the service says there have now been reinstated and we've got a normal working timetable in operation however there's a bit of an issue on the national train so northern trains nationally they've got improvement what's taking place on the West Coast Main Line near warning to bank which means that the route between kind of. Not expected to be very busy there's some replacement buses running between Ellesmere Port and Warrington as a result of this that's you know all of the trains nationally if you can update us on any other issues please do keep people's coming in but only if it's safe and it's legal of course 115-179-4095 extension 3 B.B.C. Now it was a great day of celebration for one school in Liverpool this was last Friday a year ago off that went into Florence Melly primary school in Walton and they said look we've been through everything we suppose the kids won't see you and blah blah you need improvement requires improvement so after another visit by the Ofsted inspectors it's been told that it is outstanding clearly something to send the pupils and staff and a big sigh relief and so there's some holiday as big smiles on the faces as well reports of Mike Perkins was at the school for the final assembly of the year and later spoke to some of the peoples and some of the teachers about that well brilliant turnaround. Now all the reports aside the thing that really matters is what people think of coming here now we got from Year 5 so introduce yourselves My name's My name's Lyla my name Shreya my name and my name is Jack I think it's amazing it's really good school I love everything all the teachers and the head teacher extremely nice best of hearts it's very close I have. Loads of friends in my class on nice to me every day employee with me so I feel happy yes I love coming here every day at school I also have a lot of friends help me get through hard things on the help we get through every single well just coming to school is safe and I mean the lessons my friends all the trips that you have it's just really enjoyable I think because you know that you go . Be safe here and the teachers are very kind and your we have several friends to keep you company when you're down I love being in the school because you can have a hot the hardest morning in existence ball as long as you can to this school and all your friends hope you get through tough times when you're struggling and they help you fight through the hardest times and school into the school is a privilege really. Hi I'm Ken heat and had teacher of Florence Molly primary SCO I went to the school as a child in the 1960 S. It's my dream job my name says that I'm the pastoral support officer here part of my role is to sort of make sure that the children happy and safe in school what were the challenges when you came in so they school because you had a very very an offset ripple Yeah when I 1st came into the school the school was and requires improvement on the role lot of challenges and part of that is to raise the bar raise expectations raise aspiration make sure the team works as a team and that you value everyone in the team all of the support staff all of the teachers all the governess all of the parents and just because we've got outstanding you know we'll continue to raise the bar we want to move on from out stand in and try and become outstanding plus So what has to be achieved here what were the main areas that you focused on and where is the improvement in made so we had to massively raise the attainment achievement and progress of children especially in year 6 where they do the Such tests and we did thought we appointed a 3rd teacher in year 6 where point to the 3rd teacher in year 4 so that the children were getting lots and lots of specific and help support and that's obviously worked on our results and outcomes have been very much improved and Mr Doyle we saw from all the teachers like yourself there with the words they were saying about the children just how much they they do care about the classes they teach there was a lot of soul searching I guess to improve Yeah it was difficult because we are caring people here we were already caramel from that moment it was sort of rarely rarely important that we sort of stepped up our game if you like even further one of the things that we've we've really been good at we we care so much and source of we show as every individual that we care so much towards them and it and they can see it as well. Part of my role for next year will be to sort of lead the mental health which is a massive national initiative focus on the the children's wellbeing teachers wellbeing and the parents well being you change children's lives through their learning experience that really happens and what we try and do we have an engaging exciting curriculum there and Richmond trips every week to all parts of the Northwest giving children experiences to form but that the learning from so those things if you value the children they know if you can calm the children they know when you care about them passionately and every member of our school staff whether they be teachers or support staff they value the children and we do everything we possibly can to improve their lives there's Mike Perkins just reporting from from Florence primary school in Walton who broke up on Friday with big smiles on their face after that latest Ofsted report that's the thing that was in that you've raised the bar now as to the next round and you never know when the Common Market again until they get that lovely phone call the night before never mind. Congratulations 29 minutes to 9 let's get the latest B.B.C. News headlines good morning the chair of the ferry Residents' Association says they've waited a long time for financial help following an explosion that meant 80 people couldn't return to their homes where all councils cabinet will discuss how to allocate money from a 200000 pounds hardship fund later today a man's recovering after being stabbed in his chest stomach and head in Bootle the knife attack happened in North Park on home the road on Sunday afternoon busy rail expect trains to be running as normal today on the northern line after the cable fault was repaired the power supply between Liverpool Central and Hunt's Cross went down on Thursday and Liverpool's deputy mayor is hoping this excessive the netball World Cup will encourage more to take up the sport the local authority has been working to ensure the tournament leaves a lasting impact in the city you have a. Abby stop with the Sunshine is on the way those winds starting to drop so you feeling warm of 26 Celsius do shorts this way give stable do shorts because it's you know you can get. A lovely legs out already this morning when you are vulnerable the thing is with with labs labs labs lands and everybody you know you always feel I live in jeans obviously and to be too often if there's more than one of you in shorts I think you find if you're the only man in the office in shorts then you think they have to be small and short like not pair of football shorts for work now when for to be like a. Well you do it. Some very high seventy's really I don't really know men say you when you were short short OK it's a deal I don't want to. Be the only one in the. B.B.C. Radio travelling. I could get some 3 quarter length ones. And you know what it's been or I'm only road wise and we have got a bit of slow traffic starting to build now in the saw Chester area very slow traffic actually on par both directions Nichole pit lane congestion to be on the bypass road junction towards 2 mill so temporary lights are in place there and it is affecting traffic heading into Chester around that area aside from that Darby road in Bootle is rude slowing you down again if you leave in Bootle and heading into wards Liverpool the lights are still out on lead street at the junction of palm oil in the poor city center so avoid that or take extra care of your in that area on your national trains there are some issues on the northern trains and they've got improvement what's taking place on the West Coast Main Line near Warrington Banky which does mean that the retrain Chester in Manchester that they're expected to be very busy and they've got rail replacement buses running between Ellesmere Port and Warrington banking. On all. Another update for you at a quarter to. C.B.C. Radio maybe Sorry for just a little look at this this challenge this this tackle. Is an assault really well there's no gray area it's all is there no it's truly awful it was on gas at the Ricci in the early hours of this morning and his legs were taken out from behind him and now the man behind it you're a scam on has issued an apology for it it says I would like to publicly apologize to Liverpool the family of the player and the supporters it was a heinous act on my part and should not be seen on a football field while the defendant was rightly sent off for that challenge in the friendly Meanwhile left Fenway Park on crutches and you can call up hopes his injury isn't too serious Harry Wilson also got a knock on his jaw and a finger in his eye cheering the bad tempered match the Reds eventually lost to one in the final game of their top of the United States is on Thursday against Sporting Lisbon in New York me more livable of also confirms savvier money will return for me some a break after the Community Shield against Manchester City but it will be in time for the Premier League opener against Norwich Dominic how low and yet remain a return to training with Everton this morning after being away with England and Colombia because of international commitments Marco Silvers only have 50 percent of the squad for the pre-season so far he did give the players a treat there at the weekend by taking the white water rafting in the Swiss Alps no one was injured luckily Shane Lowry called it an out of body experience winning his 1st major at the Open at Royal Portrush the Irishman held his nerve in the bad weather to finish on 15 under par 6 clear of Tommy Fleetwood The 2 were good friends and the Southport goal for enjoyed being part of the final pair of the last 3 or 4 hours when it was kind of Shane's recession a bit more difficult but it was it was a special day special atmosphere I think it's great for the game you know amazing amazing for Shane and his family and his team right place for them but yeah it was it was grey and of course this is you know we'll look back and say we're probably New Zealand the netball will. Beating the holders Australia 5251 with the winner coming in the last seconds in Liverpool Tracy Nevels England finished the taking the bronze ahead of South Africa as they beat them 5842 in the playoffs played so we're going to lose only 3 cause the whole tournament final is quite very top of the competition to come back off a loss yesterday which they're absolutely devastated to go out to very very top again they're top of my man so I'm not finished work last night a great Sunday for all 3 local rugby sides and Helens went down to a 3212 defeat at London Broncos Warrington lost 2718 at Castleford Tigers and witness will be eaten by Toronto Wolfpack Allen Pizzey has become the 1st man to swim the 100 meter breaststroke in under 57 seconds breaking his own world record in a time of 56.88 seconds in the semifinals of the World Championships in South Korea to get mostly size balls back tonight from 6 o'clock Simon and she Brooke had never seen the ball outside of the school environment before this week and it was great wasn't in fact I personally thought it was better to watch on the basketball it was fastened it wasn't. Really fast Yeah I actually think it's a shame we probably won't get it back in for when you think we will because we put on such a good show as we always have loved a. Lot of people love came to it for the 1st time and as you say that they've looked in these. 22 minutes the 9 Give me 5 I think you going to like the way. Just today. I should say the mob. Sisters.
