Zanuck Lockett's b.b.c. Radio Magistad live from the Museum of Liverpool right now it's time for the latest news is Julie appalled Good morning tributes are being paid to the 1970 s. It teen idol David Cassidy best known for his role in the comedy series The Partridge Family has died at the age of 67 the musician and actor had been in hospital since last week after suffering from organ failure his picture was pinned on countless bedroom walls during the seventy's the columnist a novelist Allison Pearson was besotted with him as a teenager she told him so when she interviewed him many years later when I last spoke to him I said one day many many years from now we'll turn on the radio and we'll hear that David Cassidy the seventy's teen idol has died and I said it would be an incredibly poignant and resonant moment for millions of women and he said to me a small part of you will die with me and I said yes that's exactly right a small part of us will die with those of us who loved him as young girls meanwhile the act has died aged 79 he had a career spanning 6 decades and is best known for playing pulp Fareast in sick home the Likely Lads Liverpool fans who travel to Spain for last night's Champions League game of told b.b.c. Radio Merseyside about heavy handed policing at Seville stadium some claim they were attacked by offices Well no this was stopped going into the ground one supporters told us they were pushed and hit as they tried to make their way in sight. The chancellor Philip Hammond will present his budget today amid speculation it could signal the end of austerity He's expected to announce extra money for housing health and education we are all councils calling on the government to use today's speech to deliver on its promises to the people of New ferry after the explosion in March councillors have come up with a regeneration plan to rebuild the town into what they hope will be a thriving retail center with modern homes you can go up insists he has no problem with the mentality of his players after they threw away a 3 goal lead in the 1st half to draw 30 with Seville in the Champions League they now need to avoid defeats when they haue Spartak Moscow to make it to the last 16 of. Them what he meant. Was a government a mistake that we didn't play playing football feels like we've lost the game we didn't lose the game but it feels like. We could have done better 100 percent Were think it's a mental problem 100 percent not well read State top of Group 8 or 9.7 a 2nd on 8 am is plenty of celebrations at b.b.c. Radio side today as we turn 50 to mark the anniversary show in styles and Billy Butler broadcasting live from the Museum of Liverpool and living exhibit small from Sean coming up you wear that wet and windy Wednesday we have a yellow warning in place for gales mild bow Hollies a 14 Celsius b.b.c. Radio Merseyside nice. Little Celia Wednesday morning to celebrate and see the. Live at the museum a little pool and it all started way back in 1967 and. It was a year you might remember when Evil Knievel killed his bike over 16 cars Elvis. Was bled out on the play is across the land and you know what was still going strong on the show we're going to be flexing that then and now 50 years of comedy of television of bullshit of spalls all with some very very special guest I want to know about your favorite meds you sad moment as well you know over the last 5 decades you know it was at the Giants maybe it's down bowl and I presume to hold your plonks that John and I still any of them give us a call 181-517-0993 extension 3 I don't think you get away with the quizzes and I'm going to be chest in general knowledge and you'll trivia of the region today a special 50th out of basically sits if it gets is all for get upset so way not just you know I'm going to drop which one that I give a wife daughter in the week this is especially want to do things and make the day you know listen great mazy sad music as well and we'll play it all up a tree now and 12 songs like this by Frankie Goes To Hollywood this is Born to Run a very good moments you. it lights out you always do so 50 years ago we were at the height of Beatlemania the footy teams are doing well Little Pill was established in people's minds as a place to visit but when when do you think you became a trollish destination I think it was probably in the build up enough to see 1000 and I you know because I think people at the got and how fantastic it was when they were going through the eighty's people just forgotten how brilliant how beautiful this city was and I think what Catholic culture did in 2000 I was remind people just how incredible this city is and I think that was a whale moment in time. To really for the city's take the next step which was seeing the growth over the last 10 years has just been amazing house net but I think it's trying a real positive spotlight at the pole to make people want to come here for the 1st time or revisit I mean massive regeneration of culture over the time as well the Albert jock probably been the big one I will pull the place you know a long shot the walls are not right for people to come in it's a big play about it. So you know you look at you look at it with standing in a museum a little polish one of the newer buildings if you look at tape of a pool which was 30 years ago is the 1st symbol rate of how a city looks at culture regeneration and Culture at the heart of his regeneration we've just grown from that but you can't imagine what the city would have been like if people got away you know the Albert Dulcie now it's just such a thriving tourist destination now and we carried on growing when I normally shover go over the coffee of a more known as people from all over the world on my journey down to the coffee shop and in the queue that Shaktar people on that you know they've got so much more to see you know if they have a nose if it's free which is just believe the city isn't it but when you see the crews on a d n a spilling out it's Torricelli's the city sometimes the 1st time there is such a pride you know that this city just gives them so much joy and so much happiness when they hear it it's just it's just such a wonderful place to visit a wonderful place to live little girl really know what's been your standout moment and I think I think that it's funny isn't it as I do a big about it so the big about it's you know huge and give and give you memories but I think what always is my standout moment is the audience's reaction to those events so you know the crowds have been on the bus been on the bus and I've got the maps out the Giants is a real memory that I've got and I think it's those things about what you do you know when you're trying to tell the story of a city how you kind of capture the audience and how they fall in love with what you're doing and how that memory is a cry it from that so I think it's losers' to many isn't that you know 3 queens of giants you've got captive culture you've got started 50 you know you can go on but actually what's most important is how it makes people feel about the place they live and. A lot of people all the big hitters want to come in on stage the big events when you think that changed I think that change probably of the last 5 years I think it's a confidence about the city now and it's seen as the place to you know to go and what you are going to perform in the Echo Arena or you come into 2 big events outside where we're inundated now with people who want to bring major events to this city and that wasn't the case 15 years ago and again it's about the audience you know they come and the crowds come out for them 3 ships sail down the river and in many a papal kind to see them the Giants come in people type into their hearts the people of this city other things that might. Not the other way around I mean the Sports Personality of the year the common again and you know goes on and on and so much more to come in the future of course so much more to come I mean that next year is 10 years since European Capital of Culture which seems like a moment so it's really hard to believe it was 10 years ago wearing the stars on that roof opening open in European culture and I think the city is a much more confident city now you know we're much more capable to say we just it just about who we are and I think what next year will do is really tell a fairy different story for the future of little poll. 50 years. From Liverpool Council the freedom of the city what does that mean I'm going to take them through the city only if we do the whole of that plan around and we do it you know we do kind of a whole event around to do it like. Making it. Really costumes on. What we're thrilled you know what an accolade It's an exclusive club and for radio magic to be involved in the is quite sure but quite right because right to most like as people a voice doesn't it you know it gives people a voice people can ring up and they can talk to you and they can talk to the city through you and the and it gives people a voice and it's been part of our history for the last 50 years the way this is the way that it is that for those big moments you know of the city's life is. Always a pleasure to see it. Like this year's clam a culture. Of Culture Liverpool some comments coming in as well come online today about people listening and enjoying the program. She. Highlight was coming home of to live in a way for 20 years I just see it almost Liverpool with improved since the eighty's one thing that never changes that was shown as human friendliness which if you need have a Golden Eye from Paul in Titan is not nice. Let me say my favorite memories of radio measures I will believe I'm only on a Sunday morning a lady is a Moments I'll never forget his government outside since you'll just fall when John Lennon died what a sad say that was for Mehdi over the brightness sounds great show show and I'm enjoying it well happy memories today on the program any more you want to share with us give us a call 815-170-9932 Bill 3 if the hippie appreciate. To This extent. I mean 50 years of b.b.c. Radio the museum. Exhibits today come on. And. The one in the bed by the way. This is what it's all about I'm going to really. It's going to be talking about television over the years but the way with the. Trivia about. Trivia. Over the last 50 years like. The old. Fish in which. Your. Question is now all right yeah. Ok what was built by about 80 apprentices from families and ended up in Liverpool Garden Festival. My When I was there just you and. I actually it's on this what was built by about 80 apprentices from come a lead in 1910 and the Liverpool Garden Festival what was not on about. The Chinese garden. No that's the wrong answer we've got one out of 3 will come in that one over people do not want on the if they had one right in the 1991 I think the play havoc in Vegas is Liverpool a lot of people describe this is the best job you might you have it was for All right what was to score a half time what you can with I guess what was the what was the score in a half time and for all you remember the game no doubt. You don't remember the game no flow at all the f.a. Cup replay Goodison. Ok so this is a wild guess I was at Wembley in 65 but only. To. The pool for after. That's wrong as well so you got one out of 3 they. Had strained and faded miserably so well John Paul thank you so much for taking part and I thought you know about the actual Paul anyone else when I have a go if you can improve on my months if not more questions as well I want 517-0993 I. Rebecca calling with thanks to multinational Byron Pitts blue sky for adding the latest to all 5057 this and several Still the Rachel muscle pretty amazing vocals and that'll show you know by now let you be live in one of the rock it's our birthday had a b.b.c. Radio message on a Wednesday will be coming to you live from the Liverpool museum joining me from a special guest as we celebrate be the new Audi is 50 games the show Wednesday to Friday. B.b.c. . Because a very often used as a proxy for the film industry and you can blame them it's beautiful so many different locations and satins books got a proud history on the screen as well the small screen all of our own that began way back before the blockbusters came to town and to tell us more about it is Jim less than once it's a many polls a pizza glance away a pizza happy better very much indeed a rich history of t.v. Over the years piece yeah I've got a little something on my phone with all the things I've been made here and very quickly. Brett Brookside but there's McGregor ice down from the all good cop hearts and minds the least little boy blue lived the beds with the pirates because he beat. Scully watching and said cause. So there are listeners the aces add of television in 25 seconds I mean there's been so many Johnny appeaser books one of the big ones I mean Bushnell blast of was a blockbuster wasn't Yeah but it has to be said cards which you know from your neck of the woods which was set in a fictional New Town based on k.b. That set the ball rolling and then we had lived in 69 and then it all took off with Brookside in the black stuff and a whole new range of writers and Jimmy McGovern Woody Rowsell Bleasdale you name it they all came out Jim hitch well watching set in Mel's Alan but I think said cars but the 1st Scouser we had on telly was Norman Washington I was cupcake in the Army game and I was in the fifty's I mean it's all about them you know them like your books I mean Brookside the longer they're gone for them in the end too long. I mean there's only so much can happen in a cul de sac I always thought but then yeah when you had to bomb explosions airplanes and all the rest of it put it it set the mold and it was a pioneer in a lot the telly we see today. I mean some of the programs don't where just discounts lives never really where he didn't make the 2nd set is why do you think somewhere and some don't I think because their time Brad came out I didn't like Fred I wasn't a fan I don't think it did Liverpool and he favors but it had its funds I think if they brought it out now it be called Food banks. But I think the same would just like it was picking up on a trend and just didn't quite come off it was more embarrassing than entertain I mean I look back of what's on the block still fairly recently and some of it is harder when it's really hard to miss me yeah it's timeless and it was then it was painting the picture of Liverpool as it was then and suddenly a lot of things don't seem to have changed you know things like universal credit and the toa And you know I. Think Bleasdale again it was all the time but it's there in the archives and it's it's even shown in schools now I mean the Lava Beds you mentioned it was recently extended to stage play which brought back a lot of memories now the lot of told about it on the show was well. Just about well just about life yet to to get the great formula like The Odd Couple 2 people sharing a flat and a bit like the Likely Lads to 2 great mates that's a universal theme and sadly it didn't work when it came back with the revamp and again I think it's now after decades go on Liverpool changes comedy changes on the programme this reflects so many more I remember taken as an extra I went on a program called help with Jake Abraham and the youngest McGann Yeah I saw you and not you you deserved a Bafta that's supposed extra That's coming up the paper shop on the 4th episode. Now did it again comedies coming going into great tryout area Liverpool and again it's this rich stream of writers we've got that little police says it's a wonderful phone imaginative city and it's reflected in the show that we produce a little to dramas What have been your favorites Little Boy Blue I thought was brilliant and I really like Cullen McEwen where with Liverpool one you know I think that was very underrated movin on and again anything can be McGovern put his hand to it says you know it says something it's got a voice and Liverpool's always had a voice and we've also got some great writers here as well you know a problem on Stephen likes a lot of really good stuff and on the list goes on and on yeah Heidi Thomas who did Lily and she got handed everything really and again you know you know people j.m. You learn and how to write scripts and all the rest of it so long may it continue and we've got a great great legacy here in the pool to tell me what have been your favorites but you know it was a by a box sets of something that you could watch again what would it be when I got one in a car boot sale to the dogs. Scully Alan Bleasdale won with her on a cruise Yeah and Elvis Costello movie I'm not was just a great look out on his downers but he still gets by and I'm you know we all know what Bristol went on to do after that and so that's one of the favorites I like family it will only end yesterday channel now so there are people still on the telly could style. People with their part in this that when. We started they did yeah and then there's the part I don't think that he likes to talk about because a it was a it had its heart in the right place and the Albert Dock I think so it's somewhat out of trace but you know we had his waltz as well which had a little contingent. And Liverpool people pop up everywhere I'm like Lynda La Plante she always has a Scouse character and I was a good looking and the something about the Liverpool attitude I think that makes for great t.v. And also for great location absolutely Peter it's always a pleasure to see you know and show some great memories today thank you Sean again Happy better piece of Lancelot about television across well 50 years as we celebrate here at the Museum of Liverpool still loads to go on the program today that's wonderful music. And this is surround yourself. Was celebrating its 50th birthday. Of community history they had at the Museum of the. Who among the 67 marked the start of b.b.c. Radio but it was also the end of something else something that's been seen as. The same people pollution even jailed for simply love and so on the sexual offense act criminalized homosexuality on the museum of approval of marking the anniversary with a very special exhibition it's called Tales from the city itself is more is the curator of community history k. Jones Jr Yes I'm good thank you Sean So just tell us a bit about this arc what are the mean for people way back in 167 well the Sexual Offenses Act in 1987 partially decriminalised homosexuality for men who were 21 years and older but it was very specific you could only it was only applied if you were in private so for a lot of people it was a very long moment like you mention lots of people couldn't live their lives openly they were open to blackmail her I think attacks so like I said it was a landmark moment for a lot of people but actually it didn't go far enough not near as far enough for a lot of people it really kind of helped spark this kind of movement of activism which galvanized the whole community to fight for their rights more. A lot of people were happy that they were given that 1st step but obviously it wasn't enough . I mean people were actually detail for being gay before they start with the main island showing the genius Koblick was actually prosecuted for indecency in 152 it seems absolute madness now doesn't absolutely we worked with a researcher who. For the 1st time really did a mass of research undertaken with from the court records from the northwest and it was really kind of brought up a lot of kind of personal stories but it showed that it really depended upon where in the country how would they enforce the law it depended on the local attitudes of the police force of the judiciary so even throughout the 2nd world war people were being prosecuted then when the law came in in 67 it didn't mean that you were scot free you were still so people were still being prosecuted it still affected people's lives and had impact on people and their families for the rest of their lives so what does the actually. Look like or so the exhibition covers. Bt community from 1987 to the present day it's the 1st time the exhibition of has ever covered that story so it's been a long time coming for a lot of people so we've worked with a huge amount of individuals but also community groups and organizations to tell the very personal stories obviously with this really hard hitting emotional stories but also we look at the celebrated aspects the huge social and legal changes that have happened over that time so what sort of feedback are you getting from the project lots of people are really really happy obviously there this huge amount of hidden histories relating to the Beattie community not just here in Liverpool but everywhere and attacks a still happen on people's rights across the world today so it's really important to highlight that socially go change but not forget that these rights that are very hard fought we don't lose those rights either we keep company and we keep. Making changes in the law also against hate crime and things like that so we've got a fantastic range of objects we've got items from the museums collections we've got some great costume we've got film oral history interview so you can listen to people's very emotional person story see their objects we also have an empty case where we're asking people to come along and kind of so we can show their objects we've if we've missed any stories this is the 1st time an exhibition has been done about little bt community so we accept we can't possibly tell every single personal story so we'd really like to encourage people to come and share their stories with us too and of course as you say it's not just about the prejudice the biased is so what the celebration it's about the resilience the positivity as well as me absolutely I mean people regardless of laws lived their lives defiantly and open the some people called some people couldn't of course thought it's a real celebration of those people who were really for hard and main thing for fought against things like Section 28 where the whole community was galvanized against that where essentially the government said in 1908 that you couldn't teach anything about homosexuality in schools imagine the impact that's had on generations of children. And us to go to you couldn't speak to teachers they couldn't advise you so that wasn't rescinded until 2003 so the books are being banned I mean it sounds like this could be from generations ago couldn't if really it wasn't places within the last 50 years. Later church are going to be hearing from a bit later on on the program as well great to see you and your show thanks Jones curator of community history at the Museum of Liverpool work live with b.b.c. A lovely day 50 years we are today we're celebrating our birthday you know what you can't talk 50 years of b.b.c. Radio without mention while a very small massive sports of the big quite a few big moments over the last 5 decades of an era when you think about it the cops the medals the titles and to talk us through some of them is our sport in Canada you know is a place you know where you if you go half an hour well I'm going to. Be interviewed I think begins from when I was a 50 years it's a difficult question I mean so many so many ups and downs as well we should remember. But I mean just a tremendous the legacy of of great sporting moments from 1967 right through to the present day and I've been very fortunate to be around for a lot of that time and I've been fortunate it's a travel all across Europe and some of the great moments in sporting history I mean what a patch this is Merseyside for sport I don't mean it gets any better than vital to present day yes. Tommy Fleetwood is the European number one golfer you know we've got we've got Liverpool we've got Everton we've got the Grand National we've got the open Gulf now on our patch so wherever you go every year there's something big happening here but I think York the home moments of that you're living with these these saved. I know I know I mean that the Ritz 2 events really that I always look back on and Mike usual will back me up as well on this one of them was the 1995 f.a. Cup final between Everton and Manchester United because we took Adrian heathy to play for Everton we took him down as our summariser and we had such a great time I mean the match was one thing but she was just fantastic we had such a great day everything went really well evident on the court and on the way back we were talking and laughing so much we got lost on the way back we went too far at the most away and it was just fantastic and then the other one was a stumble of course which really took 2001 out of the picture because people forget that now what an event that was in Dortmund but Istanbul was on a different different scale together so yeah the Shevchenko Mais Dudek saving the penalty. We will never see that again 3 nil It happened last night. 3 nil doubt at half time to win the European Court it's almost like. The yeah we will never ever see that again I promise you I'm also does a Moser mean that there's also a problem back on the motorway on the back of the 5 feet and stuff like that yes is a lot of unknowns in your game as I've done a bit of that year coming back from various events down in London after after a defeat at Crystal Palace I went to Crystal Palace once the game was postponed half an hour before kickoff because of rain now you don't want to be doing that too often but you know when you think that we've been across Europe I mean I've been to so many places that I would never ever have had the opportunity to see you know in my lifetime my 1st European trip was to Russia to Moscow with Liverpool and we went round the Kremlin. We went to Lenin's tomb fantastic experience and that's what radio sports is unable to do very very fortunate to be able to do it when you retire on the list when you think about people like Steve Perry bet Schwedler old junk Cantor Tony Burke and so on the list goes on and on it does when you think of red Roman the Grand National the 3 victories but we've got a great tradition for boxing and at the moment we're very strong with boxing the Tony value of course of the moment lot of all the boxes the Smith brothers golf Tommy Fleetwood we've mentioned as well Beth Tweddle has been a great ambassador for the city as well and of course off football legacies there for everyone to see and so much more problem under for the future this really and yeah you know we've got we've we've got some grassroots sports on the side is tremendous as well and you think of athletics in the way Catarina Johnson Samson has come through. I'm sure the future is secure I'm most excited sporting wise for many many years to come so all. Over the quickie times you've had on you know we've been away from you maybe you know I mean that we were talking earlier with a formal draw Yes a frequent replay it was a game like a game I thought you wanted righted goalie and I want after our time yeah you know I didn't cover that game but I think the nearest one to that I mentioned it earlier was the the al of s. Game in the in the u.a.e. For Cup final when it went to a golden goal I mean that was that was an incredible night and a really weird game the way that game went and then Derek Jones will tell you the trap me come back against Southampton Apprentice and park and a word about as well because I've been fighting I cover Trami for a couple of years in my in my early days with with Merseyside and fortune off to go to Wembley with me on a couple of occasions as well and they've given us some great times as well. As on our part you know me really we are going to be more football I don't think there's a bigger patch in the country than Merseyside and I don't know I'm biased but you know when you think of the sporting. Places that we have and the things that we've been fortunate enough to cover you know I'd only get any better than what we have on 50 years of b.b.c. Radio. And also a lot of people who were at radio mostly Sada household hold names now I mean Alan power user a commentator now and he was it right here mostly So Jerry Harrison. And Marcus blues. You know they were all at Radio Merseyside So it's been a hesitate to use the word breeding ground because I think working at Radio Merseyside in itself is a great privilege and honor and always a pleasure to see a. 50 Year celebration. Some great music the program of the space this is the female of the species but at the museum. 50 years I want to present to you by the way. About that. Well there you go the female of the species. In this moment wishing everyone a p.b.c. Radio made this out a very happy 50th birthday from everyone a little pill that's nice thank you very much happy bad day to the bestest radio station in the Uni various radio made saddle of Shona Billie the very best from Thelma and brown but you can come again Thelma. I don't forget still to call me got Dave k.b. Pop in and saw about the great way he's done over the years on the great thing is he we've seen him have a pill on and also some a very talking about comedy and if you can do better than one out of 3 and all 50 a quiz I want to hear from you 181-517-0993 double 3 mil take a call after the news it's 11 o'clock.
