Last night this goes to show that advertising does work and Harry Redknapp was on a trip when he was in the jungle on I'm A Celebrity last year it was always talking about Sandra is wife's jam Rolie Polie and he used talks about it didn't he and is an advert on T.V. At the moment where I think he starts to belittle business selling jam Rolie Polie smother off or upsets me said. Not Rolie Polie for years not mania either so he said right at the top tell you what we live our life on the edge should we make this or Saturday night treat so we can have generally Polish not I have been put in charge of jam Rolie Polie interest of the question is Can some not great with anything like this is the acceptable just to go out and buy one of those Swiss rolls with jam in and if that is good is generally Polish defectively that a jam Roly-Poly I'd like to think there's some chefs and cooks and people that know better than I which isn't hard. To quit with that we're not nice with jam in what it tastes the same or actually is a completely different generally Pollie Sue expects can you actually buy jam Rolie Polie surprisingly Harry Redknapp when he was doing is not actually selling generally Polish completely different products there was a girl bites are bile and Sandra's fine is generally Pollie but I don't get exists so if you can help with that 813 double 3 star you text with the word amount I am after jam Rolie Polie aficionados today what do I need to buy in order to satisfy. Why these hunger and these pangs that we have for generally Polian coast at Watch think back to school taste that was always the best podium wasn't it anyway 12 minutes past 10 polls or Dean is our guest this morning he made his name in the U.K. Over 20 years ago when he was the winner of Jonathan Ross's big big talent show well after a successful career on T.V. And in the theatre pollutant talent shows and he would America's Got Talent in 2050 well having won that he's now been invited star in Britain's Got Talent the champions which is on I.T.V. Tonight he's also going to be coming to the Lowry in sulphide on the 10th of November and Albert tolls in Bolton on the 15th of November with a brand new show which called Paul's Dean's puppets party and he told me how it all started I was a very lonely boy I used to stay at home and you know I I was just a massive fan of The Muppets and Jim Henson and Sesame Street I was brought up watching Sesame Street as a kid and just completely in love with those characters and I knew from an early eighty's I knew that I wanted to do something that involves puppets and comedy and making people laugh and so I I was given presents like puppets and Muppets characters Sesame Street characters for Christmas presents and I got a magic set one year for Christmas and I loved the magic stuff and then I kind of worked on that annoyed the hell out of my family with card tricks in the cups and balls and amazing magical stuff and and then I got a book on how to become a ventriloquist when I was a bit older about 1415 and I started learning how to talk without moving my lips and when I left school with 2 G.C.S.E. I decided to go into show business and I got a job in a magic shop I used to do kids' parties at the weekends and I used to do close up magic in the evenings when you're trying to have a romantic dinner for 2 and then some annoying geek comes up chances are it's like a card that was made and so I was busy doing all these different things was learning ventriloquism in my spare time. And deciding that I wanted to do showbusiness full time and and that's. Basically you know how I got into it really I was I was always going to something involve showing off and I love the fact that the ventriloquist was you know having watched these properties and puppets on the on these Muppet shows not so I think you never saw the property there was any thought I wanted to be in the property but also I wanted to be in vision so the ventriloquist meant I could be part of the Act as well so I didn't have to hide under the table but the downside of that is you have to learn to speak without moving your lips which does take a bit of time although I've noticed there is a fast track version now you see my aunt and all her friends they have become a ventriloquist in a very short space of time they've had so much Botox and filler in their faces their lips don't move. That's the Fonz way it's nice you know later in life you have to try to lead an extra skill Yeah exactly sometimes I think you would have been around sort of as you know a ventriloquist with a puppet at the time it was on screen I presume like Norville with a That's your character isn't or why remember I have a recollection of of same on crackerjack I think I know that he was a massive star on on television on a Saturday night I don't remember seeing those shows I know that you can see them all now they're all on You Tube and things but I wasn't aware of any particular ventriloquists at that time other than when I was about 15 I remember seeing the poor Daniel show which had the most amazing actually where the world and when one episode was a ventriloquist called Ray Allen and he had a character called Lord child who is this heiress to critics or a drunk character and he blew me away as oh my God that's amazing this is this is the most amazing you know thing I've ever seen this bloke and his technique even today having been all over the world doing what I do and meeting other ventriloquists he's still the greatest technical ventriloquist I've ever seen his technique was fabulous and that's the book that I learnt from it was called Raylan got the gear because that's interesting isn't it because I E.C. Some ventriloquists you've got great teeth you just smile the whole time which I kind of think gives the game away a bit and then you've got those that have got this ability to actually keep their mouth shut and yet Yeah yeah and yet. Voice still comes out we did you have a couple of paths to go down. The rail and it's a technique that I learnt was the one that doesn't show the teeth and I always thought yeah having seen there are thought it just looks a bit like you're trying to sort of fake smile and it didn't suit me. And I quite like not smiling as well in photographs I'm always the one who's not smiling or putting on a stupid face I don't like doing a natural smile that's just me but when you relax your face and you become you do ventriloquism your natural if you just relax the muscles in your face there's a gap a natural little gap between your lips and so when when you're talking to the character . It would look odd just to have a fake smile and show your teeth so just relax your face and that's that's the that's the look that you have which sometimes can look like you know you're slightly constipated but it's somehow constipated look suits me how important is the public's I remember when I was growing up and I did used to watch Keith Iris Norville I hated Orville I just you know were useless green Federer item it was and you know I've met Keith Aris a few times well you know really genial actually very funny man but I just didn't get the ax because the do you have to put a bit work into that think about a character actually appearing to embrace and love yeah the character is very important and. It takes a long time to come out of character Sam I've been working with these my mike cheek you know kid character Annie I've been working with Sam for nearly 20 over 20 years now and I'd say his character is quite well developed he's a cheeky little kid and he says things that I can't get away with saying as a 40 something year old and he's yeah he's the kind of kid in all of us in a way and I think you know he can he can you know if he was a chat show host or we had our own chat show the puppet would ask the questions that you couldn't get away with like Mrs Merton used to get away with as a character you know those or things more from Paul on the way in 20 minutes you can see him tonight on I.T.V. Britain's Got Talent champions 8 bright lights down the road next. Thank you. Susan. Value B.B.C. Right if you are left by the way come and see the team next Saturday morning where we're going to be and we're going to be will be with I'm sure Kathy Bailey said we'll talk to her in a Columbus time going to be with I'm sure because next week is the resolution of the chili challenge OK so this was tossed about 3 months ago Sean and Jackie are God is almost are still boarding setters all the challenge of growing 2 different chilli plants right it's just going to be humiliating to be quite honest because they're going to be turning up they're going to have these. Green plants lots of growth and leaves some beautiful chilies hanging off them oh my goodness you want to see what I've come up with yet it's not going to be my finest hour but you can a smashing. In the desert chilli County is just the real deal and thanks to commit to town he says so we can't be a nice Bessie's generally Pollie you'll find in the freezer department are you salivating at this point Cathy Bailey I want to come round later there's always that you want to Saturday nights. This is wine at we think I'll be there you know I don't really even for health. Much as you would talk about you don't need to sit stay look at you know now. You're surrounding yourself with think about a stone just look you're just looking at them yeah yeah I know and just like that he had I am on a diet always on a diet and every flavor he can think of fail I mean Coke could know it's probably just us probably And that's probably just a normal one I guess but this toughie Oh gosh here we go Oreos bubble cough multis a jelly bean and they go on and I don't like these so before I send you some lovely pictures of the cows in this field from the back of this size you're. Not Fit and they are the baby cows said back from their mommies isn't it that we get the ice cream yeah it sure is it's from the moment they have milk from a separate holding and we just have a few the baby see it for the general public to come see and say hi so it's a nice little story for them yeah it's a lovely place and so they don't just have to ask the officer to learn a little bit as well because looking out that the cows are running free and buy a lovely some flower field as well how did it also start is a family business is it yes a family business so we started 8 years ago we have the great idea to try and use the milk from the. Hopis milk from the farm and then some it's. Basically. So at the now we just came along came along I've loved the idea of sweet shops and cook. Things in the bill. So that's how we kind of develop really so it's all here isn't it actually Yeah so he's so bring the milk from the fall. So everything. You know we make all the ice cream we have some crazy flavors now and again. And we won't mention that we're also like go on working on what's actually calling and saying Who do you mean the Fire Girl I did yes well she's made so if I add her ice cream I got hell did that stuff OK so this was my whole beef full of theater. I think we've been open for a couple years so. The Internet some guys are doing in America is so awful. In America so the real thing when it's the ice cream and what boy did we have a policy was the thing people still talking about. That Tonight feel that we don't you see it wasn't you in the morning. Of course the boundary. You don't produce it regularly it was just the warm enough to be only. 5 requests numerous you know we have not read this just for a very special occasion OK yeah right I'm not even going to. NOW YEAH YEAH YEAH RIGHT MOVE no move no movement so we were also saying that you've got like such a lot of space outside that you've got a maze maze on what we call the maze maze so that's basically a cornfield because the truck in. The cost must come along we've got $7.00 hidden in the maze this year is low violence. Violence. You know we were. Basically fined and then they can buy a round for an hour then they get a puzzle card is it complete and then go into free ice cream that's brilliant. As well and everything so yeah it's really good and then that some day I send you fill out a big jaw I mean how much ice cream and not would you say so 7 scoops of ice cream and. Full wafers everything basically the soup. I think you needed if you could. Just as you have found it was going to do that now oh yeah I do that I'll be that straight away I have to say I love your cows so I don't know what it is there is something about cows they just look so calm and trying and they just. Well you know we have to comply with loads of you know the regulations we're. Going to be. Coming up next. 25 minutes away from 11 so we have also today trying every week. Holidays you look forward to them for weeks and weeks and then they're over in a flash. You leave in the office. Says in the Before you know it. It's been good to be away. And I'm really. With you. 80 minutes away from 11 on B.B.C. Radio. Right we're talking to Poles surgeon today Paul is going to be in Britain's Got Talent the champions tonight on I.T.V. He made his name about 20 years ago actually now in the big big talent show which was done with the picture on I.T.V. He then got into T.V. And stage work and was very successful actually but then he thought he tries hard to gain in the talent show business and it was successful to see when America's Got Talent in 2015 this the invite tonight on to Britain's Got Talent champions on I.T.V. Now he's also going on tour it's going to be a lousy insult but on the 10th November and Albert halls in Bolton on the 15th of November now I asked him this question and I thought this is a good one for Freud isn't it because basically of course all the words that are being performed are coming from Paul certain books of course the characters sound that he is with generally tends to get all the laughs So does he have a feel slightly jealous of the pope at the fact that that's the thing that gets all the laughs Well I think if you're doing a good job as a ventriloquist that's kind of that's how it should be really you want to believe in the character and it's you can you know having worked at The Comedy Store for many years and you know comedy clubs and gigs all over the place for years you know even grown men and women I can get them talking to the puppet in the middle of a show you know and they're not always that drunk and they will have a conversation with a puppet and they then they kind of believe that they're realizing that it's down to technique puppetry and also you know you have have a character that looks interesting when you look at the Muppets and you looked at Kermit the Frog all fuzzy all those characters was so funny and interesting to look at they were kind of instantly lovable really I don't know anyone that never did like the Muppets and so the characters you want them to be interesting and also believable really and it's about the voice and it does take a long time I'm learning you know new new scripts at the moment for the new show and it takes time and Roger my bodyguard to serve the stories when I did America's Got Talent there sign me a bodyguard even though that was a while ago he's still here I can't get rid of him and so he's there interrogating the audience and I But Roger you can't talk to us I need to interrogate him you. Interrogate the audience I don't trust that guy there I don't like the look of him and he's got this American deep voice and that's the only voice I've tried all sorts of voices with with the look of this character Roger and no other voice it's him is that voice and that voice gives me a really bad soft imagine so deep and so kind of gravelly and so and so such a contrast from the other voices like Sam Sam's I have what do you want as you know it's a complete it's got to be different all the voices got to be as different as possible and it is restricting because you know able to move your mouth aspirins It's interesting isn't it we'll see pulled the party might think OK well let's crack and take my life 56 year old along the way as he did it difficult to sell in that respect it's you know because I've been on shows like America's Got Talent and am on the new series of Britain's Got Talent the champion attracts a family audience and so this is not a family show you know this is I wouldn't say don't bring in a kid you know younger than 14 really. Because of the uber obviously you know there's a bit about a contemporary The old man is is old and you know says what he thinks really and he doesn't care what he says and so there's adult humor and he talks about you know a medical research medical examination prostate examination you know this is things that you know there's a bit of colorful language involved I don't want kids to be upset or parents to be upset but 2nd and of course you've been around for such a long time of starting kids T.V. And then obviously you talk about the talent show was a massive victory in America which you know we were all so pleased and proud for you thought it was the big game that you just happy doing the theater shows etc Is there you know is there still ambition that you think Right well there is a space on mainstream T.V. For me for instance yeah that's what I've been working towards and I've done many many a pilot over the last few years I did a pilot for the B.B.C. A while back and for whatever reason wasn't quite right in talking to I.T.V. About doing a show. Pilot earlier this year for them I got some ideas and also just doing ventriloquism in a slightly different way as well so it's not just a bloke with a puppet of course it come idea and I've got a street bent shows which will work your moment so yes I definitely think that there's there's room for it and you know you don't see many ventriloquists around and you don't see you don't see ventriloquists with you know the kind of my party type characters I haven't ever loved the Muppets so I think there's definitely room for for you to go further and we need more humor on the T.V. The reason we should do it my ranks it that we can take Yeah yeah I totally agree so it's a bit of light relief but you know I think much needed Yeah definitely going to can come to self at the dates 10th of November then the album holds in Bolton on the 15th of November with that new show saying to them Paul thank you very much and they did on B.B.C. Radio and also seem tonight on I.T.V. On Britain's Got Talent the champions 30 minutes away from 11 with that with Cathy in just a couple of minutes time after Madonna. the to move you the the booth the come from these was the best food a fun This is. The. Stop so we can get all the details next week starting with Chelsea and of course we do mention to people every day we wanted to get a with insured person on oh my goodness SUV we got them next week only one of the biggest stars of Game of Thrones which of course was the big H.B.O. Series which really took the world by storm John Bradley is an English actor born in with unsure and he's best known for his role as Sam Well Tali in Game of Thrones he's going to be telling us his story all of next week 330 every day B.B.C. Radio much to look forward to that and by the way if you listen to the definition quiz on a daily basis or quite fancy we will be looking for contestants in within short next weeks if you're quite good with the words pop along and say hello I'm going to be with you every day at 3 am we are going to be live from there next Saturday morning and Sean and Jackie are going to be joining because we have got the conclusion of the chili challenge which for me has been an absolute disaster and I love the fact that Shawn today is going to be bringing me a fish bone cactus he says it's a house plant easy to grow hard to kill I'll bring the cutting in for field see if you can kill it oh yes Believe you me are can kill anything about the Terminator of the plant world which maybe is bad news for Kathy Bagley don't get too close Catholics you're alongside a lot of plants at the moment I'm just the opposite to you because I really do pride myself on my garden I do really grow them really well I don't know you know what I must be have to stuff a green thinking so you need to come around to my garden for a bit of tips and advice. For F.L. And I do give and feed it have to do well it seems to like me but I think dies with you doesn't it don't know what it is she I think it's because the dog eats most things I think it probably doesn't help doesn't just think of just how trips that bear before even gets a chance to get it that they are living things aren't they indeed and I mean Fry is now come back near the gauntlet birds of prey and that this is a garden center that is well known for its roses and I know that obviously we get loads of questions that way with their. Own about this and Steve's with me now you are the real supervisor of roughly. How many varieties do you have when we're fully stocked with potted roses we have just about $500.00 different varieties we do slightly less than rooted which just come in the pasta compost from November to March when we fold just about $500.00 different varieties Wow And this year you doing something that's rather special and you full. Spray Yes it's cold Florida. Florida probably was Diane's favorite destination the world on the money from that Rose is going to the doctor patrols for Charice different charities it's peaceful isn't it it's not here now when we have people to say here in November rose we have taken numerous swords already at the flower show there's about $150.00 left so people need to order it for Barry told in November Yeah it's peaceful and it's pink isn't it so just describe it a blend of light pink on the outside with a dark pink Santa is what they call a cabbage Rose House from does it just like the Capitals on the medium purview to it as well as yes if it's a hybrid say so it's also makes a nice cup flower for beautiful and you do you always don't miss half. 7 and you've been here all of a long time what if you don't be full of I will start off as an engineer did an engineer apprenticeship many years ago. I went to the area made it for 20 years and then again took voluntary redundancy and then came to work in plants and gardening is I like plants not just roses and I got over 6 Not 1000 plants in my 3 bedroom semi sort of a jungle it's not like I had to work somewhere where I. Did chili plants in mine about it it's probably over watered fell I was not a. House only all killed by overwatering and plants outside of killed by on the watering. You know I've got I've just got 2 new plants for the window sill one's a prep plants OK which I'm watching about once a week is not too much. You know it's about right time to run a body in winter from the 1st of November house plants go very very dry and only war someone the compost on the surface goes dry and. The same when plants go to sleep generally and they don't want to loss of water between the 1st of November and the February so that's when most plants in the house outside in the garden opposite stray the rain generally takes care of all of the plants outsell you know it so don't go to sleep outside as well so you don't want to worry about the garden too much in the winter so I should have just been a bit me you know with the chili punch not shouldn't be brutal Yeah you want watering and in summer spring summer and early autumn but after that you should really you're killing them with kindness really to mulch well because I think it's all I have you know I have. Just got their leaves there's no use there's no way yeah it's a bit sad really speak honest I don't think you get any sort of the from my chili you know that's just come from what I've also plants produce fruit when they're in stress how do they like him so they can produce a seed hoping the bird will take the seat somewhere else so it's showing you that it's stressed out by producing a lot of dropping its leaves and so not only is you have water they all stressed out to the hilt and you've been watching Eastenders intrusive tree this week stress me out maybe that's just the chilly out here as well as you know it's fantastic in the roses and things are just going to say to you quite stay at next year you know well not next year this year when it comes in so when Sarah and Jackie Schoen always say it's not the end of the the the sort of the colorful garden is it you know there's all sorts of things you can do an end to any gods of this time and you'll find all the autumn plants from settlement to palms to Viola's wall flowers is literally a couple 100 things that we sell is Tommy that are full of flour which will flow through to spring that share and of course you've got shrubs and trees which will change the color of the leaves before they drop the leaves like the Japanese maples very short shops change from green to purple to rot to yellow so it's all sorts of different color you can produce in the garden Yeah because I remember and one of our God has been saying fail that it's like it's like at.
