100 child sex offenses in the year to March according to the N.S.A. P.C.C. That small than any other of the 30 forces that responded to the charity's request for information Helen Westerman from the N.S.A. P.C.C. Says that talk pants campaign and help parents have a conversation with their kids about keeping safe we would really like parents to use all talk sense messages such as their Privates are Private The body belongs to that and to speak out and people will listen and actually we don't even need to mention the word sex or use so it's easier for parents to tackle this sensitive subject bunches to based online retailer boo who has offered to buy the website side of Carol Millen and coast in a statement this morning it said the 2 established brands would represent highly complementary additions and didn't however mention the high street side of the companies which together have 32 stores and 177 concessions across the U.K. Grace Manchester as well the heavy showers this afternoon with the risk of thunder there will be some brighter spells but brisk winds as well with highs of 21 Celsius live from B.B.C. Radio Manchester I'm Sophia. Radioman just travel update at Shepherd has looking please not grab a friend back in north down the M 6 we have 2 lands clause on the long delay excuse for around 7 miles because of a trailer taking out those restrictions needs to change middleweights congestion all the way back she 16 Crowes can take you at least an hour to get through of course routes in the parlor with the M 6 busier than normal as a result was while also small anticlockwise on the M 60 a broken down very clearly has left queues around 11 up Bart and through tied to the Trafford Center congestion train all were bought through the change as far as 15 Swinton in Changi meeting with the M $61.00 consecutive half an hour to get through. A full closure by a fish week straight through towards great following an accident. Because of an. Investigation. Starship We Built This City had to say mole from the claimed all that Debra Mark who's probably best known for writing the book which became a hit well it came to hit films actually the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel the 2nd well and the sequel to that particular film and my latest novel is called the camera and in nice book and it is a novel but she really does draw on her next Berry and she talks about caring for her and increasingly as some of the car and how she felt about that and the guilt that she felt about that and not something that many of us have experienced or perhaps are going to experience it seems increasingly sad so it was great to talk to tapper and get her take on that same move from her on the way and also there are a few xperience is that change quite as much as becoming a parent in fact I would go so far as to say that if I may it was the biggest thing that changed me by far says equal in is the author of the bottom of the Diary series. Successful romantic comedies but this time she's written her 1st true story and it's cold. And it's about piece of advice that get out to new mums that frankly are not true atolls. Joins me live a little bit later on this afternoon on his rights to it and. B.B.C. Radio to stop. Lovely Rob have you guys back to the all that Deborah mock now he's probably best 9 for The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel she wrote the book which of course became the hit film I like his novel is called the cat is about an elderly man who needs cat and he's slightly useless children she said to me even though the book is dealing with dementia and of course can be sad it's also got some humor some black humor in it in every situation there is black humor I mean I doubt Don Frank's diary is for the B.B.C. And that was the grimace situation you could imagine but there was a lot of humor in that attic when there were all that together for that this years and with no i mean my mother would say things like I mean but she said once she said Debbie said there were 3 men there were 2 men in my bed from last night was one under the bed and there was one in the wardrobe I've never believed in threesomes and I'm not going to stand so we don't get frightful giggles and so what I did was I wrote a novel which which is funny I mean I did have the most fantastic fun writing it which seems an old thing to say when you're writing about dementia and incipient death. And all the traumas of that stage in life but as you say there is humor in everything so I did I made myself laugh when I was writing it because it's it's about this old man James and he's a very distinguished professor O.B.E. And stuff and part of his and he's boss Yes and his 2 children who are in their early sixty's they're too busy having their rather unsuccessful life school one of them is a woman called Phoebe who is a painter who lives in Wales and he's having an on off relationship with Iggy Pop looking chap who lives in hut in a wood in Wales of which there are several men who live in huts in woods in Wales that yes yes I live in Wales and I know some of them. Yeah Sophie does have having this very unsatisfactory sex relationship with him and trying to paint Robert Her brother is trying to write a very bad novel Radnich trilogy he sits in his garden shed in Wimbledon trying to write this novel and he's married to a rather chilly and controlling news reader who makes him feel very very unfair and their lives they're busy That too busy to what have they said to laughter their old dad and he lives in the Cotswolds so they hire Mandy from Sally how a man derives in her fit planned with her Mary Gold Gloves she's a sturdy last in her face and she takes over the house and man is one of these people who speaks as she finds and she takes over the old man's life she introduces him to scratch cards and Nando's and business the village which he becomes addicted to she's from another world really which which his children slightly disapprove of but on the other hand they're credibly grateful and dependent on this woman Mandy who is rescued them for looking after their own father. And then as things go on they start to get slightly suspicious about Mandy because she seems to be ferreting around in the family papers a bit much and they start to wonder what her reasons are and then there's a huge plot twist which throws everything into another direction but it it's really about the relationship we have with these people who come into the intimate heart of our family life and our gratitude resentment jealousy companionship with them because it's a very very volatile interesting and increasingly common relationship and obviously they're from very different sections of society yes it's about class it's about class it's about family secrets and it's about our attitudes towards our parents because this old boy James he's been really so distinguished that he's hardly ever been there for his children and at the age of 6 if they're still winning on about that I mean I've got several friends and their sixty's and seventy's are still saying you know my father never came to sports day to which the answer really is will get over it. Move out move on and you're going to die soon yourself don't bring Well parent you know you describe that it's a film obviously I could see it the way you described it just like your book these things as you mentioned became The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel trying to visually you picture age I picture everything I mean I knew quite a lot of novelists and you may have talked to some who who don't picture scenes at all when they write them they're much more cerebral than I am and probably more intellectual I don't know but when I write things I know what the carpets like I know what people's hair is like so I am a very visual person I draw quite a bit anyway and pain so I do see scenes visually which helps and also I do like a good plot and I like a plot with good twists and turns I've got a sort of quite a strong narrative muscle in my brain and that of course lends itself to. Screenplays so I do have 2 hats unlike you know David Nichols and. I'm one of the people who does discrete plays as well as novels near say why are we hopeful about this the cara I hope so yes it's a very good part for a very elderly man yes and 2 children with children is a funny word to say to people in their sixty's but you know is there a part of you in the daughter there is in a way in that I'm a bit of an old hippie but this the daughter is more neurotic and difficult I was think that I'm a piece of cake but then we always think we're not neurotic What about the Iggy Pop in the words they probably were but I do know one or 2. In the words I'm not having sex for a little I haven't had sex with lots of women do. This and it's great to meet you the carrot is your book and it's out now thank you very much Deborah thank you Becky. The way do you mean just travel and here with the latest at Shepherd after Mbeki fairly busy afternoon out there really big problems northbound on the M 6 where 2 lanes remain clause because of the ongoing recovery were in its dictionary 18 it made a which congestion really train back around 7 miles as far as changing 16 a crow is going to take you at least an hour to get 3 we've also got delays. Like that now means that no roads closed in both directions from Fish Creek straight through towards Straight know how with tim but also a full closure of the trouble 6 occurs because of an accident the main much the road by a short drive through Maust Lane still disruption where we've got flooding at Hanford from the airport. Closed in both directions at the junction with. An open over diversion via the exit and entry slip roads there are also problems bridge continuing with a number of roles for many short for safety reasons inspection works continue with the incident reservoir hopefully will see an improvement on that at some point today but for the moment. They made a 61 of the closures that center to new bells and public transport affected as well we'll get reports of problems more than made a 57 shots because of a broken down crane in places open is fully clause maybe just a lane closure but it's definitely difficult to get past so cute back into close up as a result of a May Day Nobody needs 102 when I. Get on B.B.C. Radio Manchester football returns with commentaries from the Premier League and Football. You could see. 200th anniversary of the pizza limousine. It's a weird one yeah. Yeah I won't tell you any more than I know you must just do it going to be very funny so I will do that and loads more besides you all stay for 3 Q. Filtrate with between 3 and 6 in here as well young on B.B.C. Radio much as time. It's breakin every. My risk. Is just to see. What I'm a good strong to break it seeking. And I'm glad to say I'd. Give everything to you but I can navigate If you've got children or indeed grandchildren and there is a whole a whole all these people queuing up when you say you know I'm expecting to tell you the the truth having a baby and how true all these truths well. And has written about them in a book lies we tell mother and it's very funny and it's a true story and she's with you make the next. Step. It's. Wow. Wow wow wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. That's. When you're about to become a. Things about. Everybody's got an opinion it seems he is the author of the bottom of the series very successful but this time she's written half the street story it's called lies. Piece of advice that. Quite frankly well. Yeah I think that most people a lot of them I'm going to guess that there are some people who had a spicy if. She had gone into labor it must have happened because otherwise we wouldn't keep saying yes in the main I think. We're told a lot of things on well like tree Yeah well meaning lies yeah we could say you know everybody wants to join in because it's joyful isn't it I mean that's that yeah RUTH Yeah Cheechoo and I think most of the things we kind of tell each other and other moms and people tell us all sort of you know we mean how you know we're trying to cheer someone up or you know when we say oh you know your baby was tell you what it needs or you do the labor all that kind of thing we going to be you know be positive but I think sometimes the cold hard reality is not quite what we expect when we have kids it wasn't for me anyway it was much harder than I thought it would be say. You know this is your 1st book directly based on your own experience isn't it so so what made you decide to write about it rather than another book in the bottom of the series Well actually I was off by publisher to write it after the bad mother series did well I was I was also publisher to just write kind of my own experiences and just kind of write something funny ready say that's why didn't it was really fun I mean it's so easy writing about your own life and things and that you know then having 2 children. And having teachers and yes yes. These are having to write it's like my time off that's my break you know I'm kind of I'm so lucky I get to go and you know mess around with stories and books and things and my kids are the hard work so yes yeah so you've got to how well do they now Susie I hate Becky I have to get this right let me just concentrate. They are 8 and they are 5 right so yes $8.00 and $5.00 so what stage are you out with them now I mean an 8 year old does it get any. I think such a nice age Actually it feels to be like just the best age and it's all lovely now but it wasn't when I 1st had Lexi's mode or one you know I found it really hard it was a really. Smacked around the head shock you know and I'm feeling quite organized really and nothing prepared me it really didn't care how much life was going to change but now they kind of it now is sort of a really fun age I think we've ME AND DEMI That's my partner we've changed and we've kind of become parents you know we've adapted and now it's so nice pretty much so yeah I mean you obviously it can't have been not because you went on to HOW COME ON Is it true when they say you know it's kind of this is no more difficult having to them all that's one of that's one of the law you. Know is much harder having to defend it's much harder I know you know quite a few people have on one kid these days and I sort of look at them and think he's so so much harder with the but also and yeah they play with each other of course but they also fight with each other so I think that kind of balance is self out but you know it's sort of felt like I had a system and it's nice to have a sibling in it to play with and if you can. You know you know everyone can and everyone wants to has the capacity but if you can I saw it just felt you know like it's a decent thing today for for my kids and having a chat is up to name to see Quinn about her latest book is called lies we tell them that there's more from her on the way. To the way do you mind just travel update his that Becky still got long delays northbound of the AM 6 you had 3 Cheshire because of a trailer and there were recovery work 2 lanes remain closed 18 middleweights with congestion all the way back to 68 crews could take you out hour to get through also disruption in a full closure of mineral road in both directions from fish week straight through towards straight following an accident also not going to contend with much to road Basie as a result uncover a drive through cheap Moss land if you factor in that diversion still diversions affecting the airport and lake water on hand for the. Disruption continuing around. The safety reasons. Seen improvement. Before you try. Anything much. Prince the most beautiful girl in the world my final guest the fact in a Suzy cake when. The backstabbing bottom of the books and now her latest but which she's her own story actually is called lies we tell mothers so your all the time how well did you say your 2nd child is she was 5 and that's the age I was get wrong because I keep saying he's 6 but he isn't. See that's the thing about this Never do they always get the children's ages right. I'm just I'm just saying that to quit if you're not I mean the point about they sees your telling the truth and we get loads of parenting advice and what you're saying is perhaps it should be taken with a pinch or a few pinches of salt so what you've done with this book has come up with 33 lies haven't you Yeah exactly so it's basically it's sort of my journey through motherhood from the kind of dark difficult days of 1st having a baby to kind of moving through to a kind of happier times and but along the way sort of. Undoing the sort of lies we tell to each stage of the journey say we've going to got the lies were told when we're pregnant and when we're in labor in the 1st year and then when they're you know when they're told listen people tell you if you have to go as they went far as much as boys and that kind of thing. The sort of you know the kind of happy ending I feel pretty happy now I mean life isn't perfect but you know something something much happier than when I 1st had a baby anyway I have to say when my baby was born and he was much long for a long awaited baby but nobody nobody ever told me that there is this. Thing cold calling oh you pull thing. That was 3 months FUN FUN FUN This is nothing you can do is that you know just crying and you know you pull thing and I don't see anybody as well because you know it must have the anti section cries for 4 hours from 7 o'clock at night until 11 o'clock at night on THE DOT you know about 6 isn't it yeah let's go back to you and the things that you were told your new baby will tell you was it needs yet the midwives told me that and yet rubbish. I think you know very possibly I should say that I think I'm not really the sort of I'm a bit of its own boy and I'm not the sort of nurturing mind that you just I do appreciate there are people who are nicer and better the made this going to them but yeah the midwife said oh you know just just when you feel the baby needs to feel you know feed the baby and it just it just felt like a nightmare because it just I just felt like the baby was hungry Alexa's hungry all the time so I was fed had just constantly because I felt well she's upset she must be hungry and yes I did and she was. Disappointed you have kind of the mother's instinct did that kid. I mean I have to say you know really I mean I sort of I think I could this all rocking that kind of thing I sort of felt myself doing that you know that felt good it was a bit but in terms of just an understanding what she was crying about and what was wrong I just did not did not get it I mean I was breastfeeding so there's always a sort of bit of uneasy silly she just you know be about and start feeding. You both which you don't necessarily have that deacons you have to kind of you know you have to make them up and then you have to wait for hours will have a long ways but yeah it kind of did NOT Yeah it did not come naturally to me too I was pretty pretty lame I think at the base. What about you know the heart Demi what was. Hey like oh he's a lovely but he was he was as lame as me would need business and we were yeah he's such a lovely supportive thought he Brady on the C S but I remember one time because so much as well in the day but you know when the kids were younger we because even all that I remember one time Lexie was trying to get you to sleep with her in the call . 7 or something and I said that night and then she was crying again and I was so I think to me right your turn you going to do something so I had this really weird noises. Kind of noise and I went in I found it to a drumstick and he was like running up and down the call. Why do like she's still crying because she was like what's going on here. And I was like What do you like that he was or what it is she seems to be calming down as he commented she's Why did why he thought it was so I think we were both both this is each other but he was wonderful he was much more supportive of me than I was I was much more critical of him and he was more supportive of me thank you Demi. What about line number 23 You Should Never bribe your children. Oh Dad Yeah I mean I got my kids all the time I mean it's a daily thing you know if you do we do you do the I mean you know. Carrot and stick I'm sure they something good about it but you know I'm always asking them you know and it's usually a bad bribes you know he chocolate all sweets and you know if you do your patience by this time you can have a biscuit you know is that kind of that kind of thing it was bribery You know it's . Just normal. I think isn't it and that's the point of your book isn't it I mean all that all that loss of book me my my son's 21 now well well Leon and he still lives so we see we survived yeah all the loss of books out that kind of paints. A picture through rose colored spectacles I think there was. A lot of kind of how to baby books that kind of gloss over the kind. Horrendous emotional just kind of instruction manual in the car and the quiet sort of. Yeah they did to some of the How to baby but it did feel a bit rose tinted I mean Michael you know if you sort of cuddle and love your baby and often that kind of thing I remember reading one about breastfeeding that was just kind of like oh it's just magical to be a woman that you can just feed in your baby stops crying and it just did not feel magical if it's only made they could do this and it's really grueling and I don't want to do it anymore you know at times you know so yeah I think so but they're all say some really really good books like the mums you mom is a really I didn't even know what that was really funny and it's that kind of real like. You know type of motherhood Yeah I'm why mommy drinks why mommy drinks Yeah yeah I know it's a. Great title yeah this is really good to talk to you good luck with the book is called lies we tell mothers by my final guests today it's easy clean and have a good rest of the dice easy good to talk to you thank you so much Becky gets to.
