Over the last few weeks. For peace something that has been inspired by Yoko. And roundabouts. It's called tonight there is going to be a great coming together where people are going to be ringing bells many of which have been actually made by them I felt a little bit left out about they so I have been reading they're saying you can bring your hand bell you bicycle bell they are saying you can even get a phone up and the important thing is as long as you've got a bell then you can ring it so on the way in today on the tram I have just downloaded the super sound effects app which I'm very excited about so this is a classroom where we go can maybe. Be used as a little bit later that's the Klang which are the ones I use this a few on here actually which I think might be. There was it that's nice. As the boxing bell which I could use a little bit later as there was another one on here actually which I thought that would be quite handy if it comes to oh there's a phone. Now it's a troll phone that's going to be no no we go doorbell. They go you see so I've got everything ready for a little bit like what's this one. 0 no no we don't plan that one life right so we're live from the Manchester International Festival got Smokey Robinson and the miracles and we'll talk to some of those from M.I.F. In a couple of minutes time. Live Smokey Robinson and the miracles and tears of a clown I shall dedicate my bells by the way to Chelsea nor'easters listening this afternoon afternoon Chelsea spent with you 1st on Monday. Actually it's more morning 30 minutes past 3 so there's a little bit of John and Yoko playing in the background we are going to be talking about the bells piece a little bit later one of the things that they are actually encouraging people to do a little bit later is to put a message on what is being described as a witch tree OK so you get a little candle like luggage label with a piece of string on it and you wander over as I am now to the treat there is a big desk and in the words of go go No it says Wish Tree make a wish write it down on a piece of paper fold it and tie it around a branch on a Wish Tree ask your friend to do the same keep wishing until the branches of covered with wishes and just looking at the moment I would say is about 10200 little wishes on there at the moment I don't know if most of fermented United fans hoping for a better season next season very very certainly there's a lot of people who are embracing this and you'll hear a little bit later when we're talking about the bells for peace that there's a lot of messages from Yoko Ono obviously she's a she's a freethinker let's just say and for instance Lacey we're going to hear about her request to those who are joining here tonight to look up and ironically this is the worst day possible to do this in Manchester to look up and name a cloud and then you've got to send a wish to the cloud so it's a little bit for us free thinking but Michael is one of the Manchester International Festival volunteers who is handing out these tags Good afternoon to you Michael good afternoon lovely to see you're looking resplendent today in the Manchester certain shine I was just saying that later that Yoko is asking us to name clouds How ironic that we've chosen the one day where there isn't a cloud in the sky. Agree because. You. Before last it was all 4 and due to my numerous I had to cancel out and duck out but this time the sun is shining the sun shines on the righteous like me and you can since 980 just tell us about your story what where were you before that I was in London I lived to cool in the West End and not only that I went through same hole in London and 89 I came to Manchester and when I came here I joined the foundation at Sydney's street and I was the only Oriental there and if there's an Oriental or when there's an Oriental listening tonight please join us we need more already and the L G B T foundation now they have moved since 1995 to Richmond's Richmond's street and that's the story of my life I came here for work and where. The organization folded. And terminated but now you are a myth organizer your you're a volunteer you're handing out these cards today what's the reaction of you cos of people. If they told you that we should never really say we should not at all I tell them to keep it clean. And that you know me read it all really yes it's all going to be collected. At the end for and present it to. The staff and present it to so these wishes. I do wish more people would be here and that they will all come through all of you well if any of the wishes of the blue skies and sunshine it's already come true Michael what a great pleasure to talk to you all the very best you keep putting out your. We're going to take this with the B.B.C. Radio. Today from cathedral go. And. Told. Was cut. Cut cut. Cut cut. Cut. Just trying. To get. With drag S.O.S. One of those queens is Donald Trump told me last name actually has nothing to do with the president it's not going to do that I had it before he became president it's actually a lot to lose Joe I really don't a Trump can say. This is really an. Election played right into your how it. Got elected I got very astutely back fast with Tao Morris Saturday morning from 6 B.B.C. Radio Manchester. Good afternoon B.B.C. Radio Munster 22 minutes past 3 live today from cathedral gardens which looks resplendent you know I love about this place actually if you do a full 360 where we're stood at the moment so you can see the building that was that's now the National Football Museum there's the C.I.'s building which is towering into the skyline just behind that then you've got Cheatham School of Music which is just beautiful it's a great building which has been on the skyline here for many years and there is so much new development this new development just taking place behind much to Cathedral which is in the foreground to where we're stood this afternoon which just looks incredible doesn't exclude all that amazing architecture and then just in front of us we've got the coal exchange which of course has had various guises over the years but now actually has been modernized and it's got all sorts of amazing glass fronted businesses in front of it and then just in the background is the print works you get a really interesting so a lot view as you look here today there will gardens around about 6 o'clock tonight it is going to be bells for peace this is the Yoko Ono inspired events we're going to be talking about that a little bit later there will be a definition quiz today just to let you know that there's no qualifying questions we've already got our caller who is Dave who is from Warrington you can hear how Dave fares in a round about 25 minutes time and next we continue our chat with Lucy me coaxes course the Granada reports presenter she's going to be talking about some of the highlights of the last 30 years of working there after Casey in the sunshine. 11. Good. From K.C. And the Sunshine Band Good afternoon B.B.C. Radio Manchester it's just approaching 330 live today from cathedral gardens we're waiting for the Manchester International Festival to get underway with these bells for peace which starts tonight at 6 o'clock big team of us here today Amy My producer is here alongside Cathy Hughes looking after all the technicals I've got George back in the studio it's important that George remains awake actually for the next 3 and a half hours I'm just wondering whether every time I say bells for peace if you can give us a little ring the bell let's see if there's. Oh a steady diet of. We will be 3 now and 7 and if you're bringing your bell along a little bit later try and hunt is out trying them out over and say hello because we are just by the big screen where all of the activities are going to be taking place right to do this week's munched people all of this week it's been Lucy me cock of course Granada reporter presenter for over 30 years she's been recognised as search various industry awards Well today Lucy has been talking about working with some of the CO presenters on Granada reports which includes the legendary Tony Wilson he was one of the kind people that you could ever meet and although when we used to work on upfront together he would always get so carried away by his absolute adoration of Manchester United which went through every vein in his body as Terry Christian will testify. So quite often any intervened it would come back to a comparison in some way with Manchester United which was always a source of great amusement but he was absolutely passionate about the whole of the northwest of England not just Manchester I think people feel that he had this anti Liverpool failing he didn't talk he adored the whole of the North West I think probably people felt that because we tried to balance each other out sometimes so if he talked a lot about Manchester I would probably try to balance that out because we felt that we were serving the whole of the region. Not just one part of it we always used to get state whatever we did about that. But people used to call him Mr Manchester and I think people don't realize maybe sometimes how bright he was he was a Cambridge graduate he started at I.T.N. . Conversations with him with just wonderful you never knew where they would go but he was so creative he was so creative about it debate where it would go. And that that unpredictability is wonderful television live television is brilliant when you're never quite sure what someone will to do next and he had. And he had great charisma and charm. And I think the hardest program or certainly one of the hardest programs I've ever day was after he died and I remember. We were really struggling to get through to the end of that program because it was the 1st time as well that we'd read emails out on the program I mean now it's the it's Twitter and Facebook and social media is massive now but I remember then we just started saying email us if you have a point a few on a new story that we cover and we were just overwhelmed with all these messages who we'd never seen anything like it and obviously as a friend of his and a colleague of his I had to sit there and wait them out I'm pleased that I did it because in those situations you want to make sure that it is done as well as it can possibly be. And I think it was really important to do it but it was also one of the hardest things I've ever done aconitine and I had the privilege of meeting him on a number of occasions just a lovely man did he ever take you to the hacienda I did go to the house and with him and yeah we used to have a ball in there again though you'd never quite know what would happen next I'm not sure I should say some of them and. We were a lot younger and maybe a lot wilder in those days. Well you know we used to have fun and in fact I mean up front the thing that we quite often when we go to our front and then on to the hacienda or out for a Chinese meal or something in Chinatown. We did have a great time it was it was wonderful Steve Coogan obviously worked on that front as well Caroline Aherne. So it was a fantastic creative environment to work in and a lot of those people who worked on the production are still in the business as well you probably work with some of them here and. You know it was a great platform to great things. You know I've got to say I agree with everything that Lucy said about Tony Wilson the 1st time that I met him you got a perception of somebody and you think OK Are they going to be really difficult to get to be tricky they've got this on screen persona but just the loveliest guy in a great place to listen to Lucy recounting those tales of her time with him Lucy talks about her love of the city of Montreal about the people who work in the media it's about the people who feed us always wonderful stories and who tell us fantastic anecdotes and he makes his law and who are incredibly articulate you know he goes from library market brilliant place and a wonderful stories if you're going to Manchester Town Center into any power. You know you get a train or a tram or a bus anyway you will hear great stories because that's what this part of the world all about. And you know just looking across Cathedral Square is actually a fair representation of all of those people the things you just described here for us this afternoon this is B.B.C. Radio this is Britney Spears. Sally. Sally. Good. No. Used to be a bell at the end of that song spit disappointing isn't it maybe we've got the. Go Thank you George well done. B.B.C. Radio Manchester Good afternoon just approaching 25 minutes away from 4 states definition quiz coming up in a couple of moments time we're going to head off to Warrington for today's contestant at 1st. For the bells for peace events. Disappointing. Else that. Down that thank you George to kick off this year's festival all reporter Richard stead has been looking at the festival over the last 12 years for the lowdown for his rich it filthy belief that it was set up as part of the legacy of the Manchester Commonwealth Games all those years ago basically the city council leaders thought what could we do next that will continue to attract people from across the world hates Manchester basically it's all great sport we can do football let's do it has let's face it made a huge impact fell I mean you know over the years that commission produced presented you know world premieres by people like the Singha beer look the film director Steve McQueen The video artist Jeremy Della the actress Maxine Page architects had date all take a deep breath Damon Albarn from blood of the Berry and. US everybody with their phone apps you know with the maps just looking at maps actually to have something like that is just into the books ticked is now a battle isn't it beautiful Manchester so most often a lot they say is absolutely beautiful for this year's festival What a day we've got for it that commissioned the legendary Yoko Ono to kick it all off as you said bells for pace she's now 86. 86 Can you believe it she's 7 years older than John Lennon when they 1st met back in the sixty's and I think it's sadly for that reason she hasn't. Able to travel here. From a luxury Manhattan apartment this is one of the many call outs for peace that she's done over the years and perhaps the most famous ones she ever did with those 2 week long bed ins for peace that she took part in with John Lennon in Amsterdam on Montreal back in 1960 dowry you know you go to the education you don't think you're . One of the exams are you going to finish with the performance of the. Problem. Of the family and just remember. 7 that you. Are who you. Think you are who you are. Yes. You're. By the my known. Enough to get involved in a study you know it's interesting isn't it because we've just been watching a little rehearsal what's going to happen later she is clearly a free thinker isn't she she definitely things outside it is isn't it just give us an idea what can you expect and what we've got all these bells she's going to be on a big screen in a cathedral godless here giving out a series of instructions which will include ringing bells now the festival has had 4000 being grave bows made to hand out to people who turn up they've also held ceramic Bell making workshops for around 400 people from across Greater Manchester over the last few weeks people have also been asked to bring their own bells if you call bell at home break it down could be a HOT.
