Across England on b.b.c. Local radio election 20000000 to have your say. Good evening from a Adrian Goldberg as we bring together b.b.c. Local radio across England for a night of politics let's get breakfast. And that's bringing this country to get a liberal Democrats majority government will read the article 15 the old ways of working and really failed and we need to move into something very different let's make sure it's the right direction and that's why the direction party a party in this campaign Labor will end the Bracks crisis might tell you this is in fact. Less than a week to go until the general election and tonight the latest b.b.c. Election debate takes place the prime ministerial debate no less Boris Johnson versus Jeremy Corbyn We'll bring you that live at $830.00 and then afterwards we'll be taking your calls. On double 956 is the number to ring to make a note of it I met coal behind the scenes in the spin room where the politicians will be chewing over what they think of tonight's debate. And I forget you can call us tonight on our 8081. Double 956 or you can text 81 travel 3 message with England social media use the hash tag b.b.c. England across England on b.b.c. Local radio or have your say with Adrian Goldberg. Yet we're taking your calls tonight less than half an hour to go before the big debate between Jeremy Colvin and Boris Johnson which you can listen to right here on your b.b.c. Local radio station or you can watch it on b.b.c. One might that at 930 we'll be getting your instant reaction to what you will have seen and I'm looking to hear from you now as well what are you hoping for from tonight's debate it is the. Last big dead between the 2 men one of whom will almost certainly be our next prime minister is there anything Boris Johnson will generally call being can say tonight to guarantee your vote what are you looking for in the debate and what might swing it for you give us a call right now oh it's a wait one double Oh double 956 with me is our political reporter Susanna Mendonsa evening to you Suzanna city just give us a little flavor then of how the 2 leaders a danger perform so far yeah I think if you look at the polls and obviously you have to take that a pinch of salt because polls don't necessarily reflect the result but certainly it shows that Boris Johnson is ahead of me Corbin in terms of perceptions of the public and so essentially ahead of this debate we would expect to see is Boris Johnson trying to keep things steady really try and do nothing that well I suppose reduce his lead where is Jeremy Corbyn he really has to pull out all the stops because he hasn't been performing as well as he needs to those concerned certainly in the polls about what they refer to as the red walls or some of those seats across northern England and across the Midlands where labor traditionally has held on to seats there and whether or not those seats potentially could be lost and so Labor needs to be really picking up those votes in those places and hammering home its core message so we can expect to see Jeremy Corbyn talking about the n.h.s. Talking about austerity and what they would do to turn that around ajar and Boris Johnson focusing very much on that breaks it message in order to galvanize those people who for him he thinks that actually he can pick up those votes in those places where people waited leave and are traditionally Labor seats that what is it tonight that Boris Johnson or Jeremy called in can say that would guarantee your vote what are you looking for in this big latest debate to give us a call that. Double over double and 56 in Texas and it won't travel 3 Start your message with him. And or join us on social media using the hash tag at b.b.c. England you mentioned the whole question of break seats and that's obviously playing so I suppose to Boris Johnson Boris Johnson strengthen his priorities and that has been very much on the agenda today yeah it has been very much on the agenda and in some ways there actually we see labor trying to paint Boris Johnson is not being clear enough for more on what BRICs it will mean and say we've had Jeremy Corbyn talking today about that leaked document that he says that he's got that shows that Boris Johnson is misrepresenting his breaks it deal in terms of Northern Ireland because we've had Boris Johnson saying that there would be no border checks in Northern Ireland or this document that Jeremy Corbyn has been referring to today it's a 15 page Treasury document it talks about how Northern Ireland symbolically would be separated from the union and so this is raise questions again with the d.d.p. Of course they've been very unhappy with Boris Johnson's approach on BRICs that talking about this being further evidence that Northern Ireland would be worse off and so we can expect of course we saw in the last debate and we with Jeremy Corbyn bringing out documents relating to the n.h.s. Well we can expect he probably will talk about this later on today and for Boris Johnson he's he's very clear that breaks it is his key policy that he thinks will get people on side in as I say in those seats where people waited predominantly to leave but this issue of Northern Ireland has been one of those bug bear certainly throughout this whole break that process and so Boris Johnson will be keen to allay fears that in some way his deal would mean that people in Northern Ireland would not be protected but Jeremy Corbyn of course will be talking about that tonight here's the Labor leader here's what he said today we've got Johnson the red handed misrepresenting his Oh Rex Johnson has said definitively and I quote There will be no checks between Northern Ireland and Great Britain. In private the government says something very very different Johnson's deal of it is our stress for businesses and jobs all across the u.k. That's strong stuff from Jeremy Corby one of the Tory said in response yes so the conservatives are said this is all a conspiracy theory that they will be no checks that's complete nonsense and what I can tell you is that with the deal that we have we can come out as one whole u.k. There will be no checks on goods going from g.b. To n i a n i to be. Let's talk about tonight then Suzanne what kind of impact do we think this lived by the last head to head between the leaders before the election what that actually have on the outcome of the election Well I think it's important to note that you know this is a head to head between the 2 main leaders would only have one opera Vai's we have we had one during this election campaign but in previous elections we were seeing different party leaders on the stage and when you've actually just got the 2 of them head to head it's a real opportunity I think for both of them to set out their stall and to appeal to those voters who maybe are are uncertain about and so I think for Boris Johnson the key thing for him will be around trust because people have been questioning whether or not they can trust his pledges whether or not they can trust that he will see through what he's promised and so I think for him that's got to be the key issue that he addresses of course he will be talking about even on breaks that people want to know whether or not they can trust what he's saying and whether or not it will happen so that will be his focus I think and as I say he's ahead in the polls and so he wants the dips maintain that lead then with Jeremy Corbyn this is really got to be a moments where he stands out where he actually convinces people that you know who perhaps are uncertain that they should be voting for Labor and so he's going to he's going to be his Nick Clegg Yes Nick Clegg memorably 20 tanker sees the agenda Yeah and suddenly became exactly was that it was that I agree with Nick moment was that where they you know you have gotten Brown up there you had they would come out there and they were all agreeing with Nick Clegg That was his moment and you then have a whole series of you know what they refer to as Clegg mania where he did actually pick up those supporters and so I think for for Jeremy Corbyn this is got to be that moment and he's got to talk about the things that are going to matter more from Suzanne as we go throughout the a van with every year before the Bible will cross live to inmates than hosted by Nick Robinson and 830 give us a call now though and tell us what you're hoping to hear from the what might swing your vote one way or the other 08081 double 0. Double 956 is the number to call Johnny's in Suffolk Good evening to you John a. Friend my friend yeah go on then what are you looking forward to tonight or just . Want to say company I want to say to. Buy stock holders. And get the job done it would have been to release every time someone. Has got a deal and there was certainly a pressure free is what I was good enough so they want to carry on and so right because someone else's wife is never going to please everybody and that's very much Boris Johnson's message isn't it get brags it done but people are saying that is naive you know his critics say that in the real world even though that's what he might want to do it won't be easy to just get brakes it done what do you think of that when I mean. He's done what we can he's come up with. You know he's done the best we can you know I'm not happy with why she's gone. At least you know. What the situation is. From that from that point of view then Johnny in a sense there's nothing that Jeremy Corbin a surprise suspect is that he's likely to sites and not because he's going to talk about negotiating what he regards as a bat's a deal than Boris Johnson has got then taking it to a 2nd referendum some unless he completely backtracks tonight certainly not going to get your vote. We'll have an election actually is so radical whatever party wins this election years down the line if we turn on their policies it's not good for years and Iran will sign we don't we can charge more much we vote that mean if we vote I mean thats it. So they're very professional we're talking here yeah yeah we're talking charge anymore and it was the Russians brought it out of the wives of the guys we're very open service hours anyway but we are we can't keep charged remarks that you know we're going to tell you the whole nation Johnny thank you very much you know Johnny in Suffolk trying to get your claim before 30 in the debate I don't want double double 956 tell us what you're hoping for from tonight's debate what could be said to not what do you want to hear from either Boris Johnson or Jeremy called in that could swing your votes that's going to word with McKayla Rudd McKayla is a polling expert from the insight and strategy consultancy Britain thinks. Hello hi yeah we've got a little bit of a flavor of the kind of the why the public thinks about Boris Johnson Jericho being from Susanna already but what's your research telling you about the cheerleaders. Well I think the 1st thing to say is there's also a lot of enthusiasm out that's for either one of them this is an interesting election the point if you have just how an act that sizing thanks is Bill that choices when it when it comes the 2 leaders and what we have about Corbin is these well meaning. But also naive incompetent indecisive people fear you know he's unable to manage he said in policy let alone run the country. When we ask what fictional character would best represent coop and . Along the lines of Whereas. In the west one they say absence and. So it's a pretty damning and many other hand who jumps in those Johnson and he's. More new on 1st. So he is quite often disliked people think he spoilt the self-serving they don't trust him but he's also going to be a kind of cow if Matic entertainer if you like. Credited with being quite decisive which people think is a really important quality to happen in any future leader and kind of energetically he's going to shake the country up a little bit and depending on who you speak to he's either kind of changed bones gushing in to save the country or he's home the since the kind of in the. Factory not knowing which buttons to press about to kind of unleash chaos. So quite the fight just bigger of them by the truck particularly flattering to spot. Other of the issues but you know we're just 6 days to go now less than a week before the early issues kind of holding interviews that seem to becoming more important as we approach polling day. I mean as we're hearing from your caller that you know the just no getting away from the fact that this is the press that election. And that is going to be the issue that is at the forefront of people's minds when they go to calls that next Thursday. But you know a lot and that there are a lot of other issues in the selection of mean it's really interesting to see things like crime and poverty and how thing in the environment coming up the agenda in a way that they haven't done in past elections you know and then equally the economy and immigration things that really used to dominate have just not played nearly so pick a role but I think from from the conversations we've been having with voters what what's to come what's been really interesting to see is that actually the crucial question for them is not kind of what policies to the parties have but actually who can I trust. And in recent polling voters were asked what they could recall from the campaign and lice got the highest school so in a way trust has actually become the biggest issue of this campaign interesting stuff and I suppose it will be an impressionistic thing than one if people can't remember the actual debate going to have they fail I suppose about what they say and what they hate and I just comes across to them as the most likely leader you could do not remember tonight's debate swing things decisively one way or the other in favor of one man or the other. Interesting question well well I mean on the one hand people hunt it's all. Depends on who's really listening and people off out of this campaign. Will say it's only Mike's 1st time in the spin room yeah. We did some focus groups last nights in pizza but. What people told us they couldn't really remember anything hearing anything about the campaign polling suggests 40 percent of people say they can't remember hearing or seeing anything about the campaign in the last few days. So for a lot of people this is just going to pass them by that set t.v. Debates all the thing that most likely to get picked up on and can be particularly important to those undecided fixes of whom there are kind of historically high numbers and this in this election so in a way there is there is still a lot playful for both of the 2 leaders this evening mechanic thank you very much indeed McCallum there from the consultancy Britain things as you might have had me saying never going to cross live it's of a spin room now where our political reporter Matt Colie is Whiting. And not for people who don't know what the spin room A's tell us exactly what he's. Evening yet will listen is where hacks like me and lots of other journalists all come to watch on huge big screens what is going on inside a studio just about 3 feet the other side of the wall opposite me and surrounded in amongst our midst will be politicians from all different parties who once it's all over will come on and chat to us and tell us how wonderfully well their guy did or how badly they think the other side did and obviously we've only got Jeremy Corbyn and Boris Johnson here but that doesn't mean we haven't got representatives of the other parties here as well so some of them are around about we're now doing little quick preview chats with other media outlets we've been having a few quiet words ourselves just getting ready sense I think of how they think it's going to go I think I'll see the still some disgruntlement from some of the parties they're not involved but bit late for that because we now have this what 11 minutes to go till Boris Johnson takes on Jeremy Corbyn in what many are saying is the final big set piece of this election campaign so you're sitting in a room effectively outside a big television studio. Here they aren't like. They're here to see what it looks like so we're in the back lot of a studio so I'm looking up a kind of metal be kind of wires an air conditioning units it kind of feels like we're in the back of a motorway break down carriage or something so this is a working studio where the Maidstone studios and so surround all these kind of back to the cages full of random bits of sets they're actually doing a few sandwiches and cups of tea for all of us in here in what is a fake diner that's used in film with whole American ducking the. This just here so everyone sort of nipping in and out of there but at the moment. For a spin room there's a there's a bit of a dearth of spin is the moment from Frank age and so there are probably a couple 100 journos here waiting to watch him pick through this probably less than a dozen politicians here the conservatives. Speaking to a source for number 10 and he's filling me in yet none of the conservatives are actually going to come out and talk to us till after the event they can to keep their powder dry for the not even get a preview it and obviously the thing for them is to kind of just watch and hope that their man holds the line and Jeremy Corwin doesn't have a what they're saying is their big concern is if he manages to have a big moment at the last thing they need now at this stage of the campaign but effectively then you'll have senior figures from the respective parties coming in briefing you after the debate telling you why they think either Boris Johnson or Jeremy Corbyn did particularly well encouraging you to report it in that particular way that's the spin that's being applied Yeah I don't think anyone's going to come out and say Oh my man had a shocker. And I will as I think Paddy Ashdown say when he heard the bad results from a general election know a couple of generations ago now he said our eat my hat I will definitely eat my hat if anyone comes out and says My guy was rubbish. From the mat in the spin room in the fake American diner a little bit lighter thank you very much indeed Adrian Goldberg with the you're listening to b.b.c. Local radio across England tonight and a leaders' debate special Susanna Mendonsa is alongside me as well at 30 we're going to be joining b.b.c. One for the head to head Boris Johnson and Jeremy Corbyn taking questions from the audience inmates and that'll be refereed by Nick Robinson then at 930 we're going to take your calls in reaction to what you've seen and heard you calling now 08081 double 0 double mind 56 on the text tonight franking and Field says bar aces lied and lied and lied what more can be said the guy can never be pm Sarah in Walthamstow says to many brags that struck Boris supporters really care or understand about the Irish border issues and an anonymous text saying homelessness is a key issue the present housing situation could be defined as a modern form of slavery as the vulnerable could be seen as being exploited if you do want to text us one trouble 3 is the number. The forget to put the word England at the front of your text Laura is in reading. Oh hi What are you hoping to hear that in tonight's latest Well I'll be honest I haven't really followed much of it but quite some time because it's just going on and on and on and get to fighting day I'm starting to worry about the fact I don't know who to fight for I don't know which way. I think my main concern is that a single parent but you know up to 8 children one of which has got mental health and is 22 years old and I worry my mindset is the n.h.s. Think we're down lucky to have what we have. And that sort of that sends me. What happens if we don't have the n.h.s. The housing situation that concerns me as I've been to a young adult I mean I get a better story nobody nobody saying we're not going to have an n.h.s. . 30 bytes about the level of private sector involvement in the n.h.s. But so what could either of the policy leaders site tonight that would make you think yep I'm definitely going to put an x in the box of my candidacy or party Well I'm going to stay and you know I'd like to stay I think housing is that I worked as an estate agent and I think you know housing and young people get on the property ladder is you know is hard enough there is definitely need more affordable housing. So you're an undecided you're going to be listening with us now are you going to be watching yes definitely All right well we're monitored by trivialized to Lawrence if you a shifted one wire will be over by tonight Steve Martin is in Carlisle Hello Martin welcome along Iran. Yes Very good my friend what would you want to say mostly what are you hoping for from tonight's debate. Who are. Conservatives are still trying to get what they want to get their support beyond them just to tell the truth instead of doing this for your muck around what that there weren't a lot doing anything to give anybody to support them they'd like to say just before then it just needs to be more the poor didn't sort of hopeful for people that needed it and so the point lead at the time look you look around saying yes we do no no we're not doing or if we turn or if we should go to shoot mountain in Carlotta's I hear the n.h.s. Then a key issue for Martin in color so I will be getting more of your reaction from 930 when we've actually heard that he bites. Boris Johnson and Jerry called him going head to head from Maidstone will be crossing over live to that in about 6 minutes time with Nick Robinson says animal dancer political reporter is alongside me we've seen 2 former prime ministers getting involved in the election campaign today both John Major and Tony Blair says Anna Yeah and of course both of them have been supportive of the remained position important tonight throughout all of this but we've got the former Conservative Prime Minister John Major actually urging people to back 3 of those independent candidates former Conservative M.P.'s who were kicked out of the party people remember the 21 and were kicked out of the party because they backed the bend they'll wishes to stop the no no deal Bracks sits as some of them are allowed back in but some of them were not because they didn't agree to back Boris Johnson's deal and say days ones who are standing so we've got they would go from a just a secretary who got Dominic Grieve for my attorney general and I'm Milton Now what we've got is John Major basically saying in a video message that he thinks that conservative voters should vote for them and that he would vote for them and if he was in their constituency and and being clear that you know it's not about not voting Conservative it's about the fact that he. These them as p. Being people who have not left the Tory party but that the Conservative Party has left them and so many now and he hasn't said don't vote Conservative elsewhere hasn't been a very specifically said the 3 Conservative M.P.'s who were kicked out by Boris Johnson if you're in their constituencies that you should vote for their Yeah no I was just looking at the numbers and you know it's who you know Guilford 54.6 percent Tory last time beckons bill which is Dominic graves 65.3 percent last time so you know they're all very high Tory voting areas so but he's obviously trying to get support for them we've also had Tony Blair the former Labor prime minister who of course defeated John Major back in 97 speaking about this today at a rally in London and saying he actually said that you saying 5 words that he never thought he'd say thank God for John Major saying praising John made out of both his former fellow and this is what he said so 6 days to save our future breaks it is not a mistake I wish it were it is a disaster with age can come the wisdom of lived experience but it is youth that has its finger on the beating pulse of the future and we have no right to steal that future from them. There we go that's Tony Blair is no man's effects question though is that of how significant those impacts will be I mean Tony Blair talking about younger voters there will younger voters pay any attention to Tony Blair or indeed John Major you know well the same minister a long time ago and certainly the sense you get from the current conservative administration is that some like Tony Blair some people should listen to that. The comments from John Major that they are outdated that's what we've heard from Boris Johnson today how much young people listen to it who knows but the fact of the matter is that young people could be influential in terms of defining the outcome of the election because if you've got a lot of young people voting in a certain direction because of breaks it then that could have an impact and certainly a young people's vote is one that I think both sides have been trying to get to but yet you know these 2 former prime ministers intervention it's not it's unsurprising I suppose that they're basically coming forward to remain message because that's what they've been saying all along is and I thank you loads of comments coming in on Twitter using the hash tag b.b.c. England Sabina says there's not a great choice really Chris says Boris is the best of a very bad bunch who will improve the u.k. With open borders and bowing to the a year each wire in such a mess Barbara on Facebook says this lot aren't capable of running an egg and spoon race let alone the country new Perth things allowed the cat would do a better job she says he's been in Downing Street and knows what it's all about Graham says he will be voting for Jeremy Corbyn so then it is time for the head to head Boris Johnson and Jeremy all been there for good afterwards will be taking your calls over now to Nic Robertson to that they deserve to be prime minister tonight Boris Johnson leader of the Conservative Party and Jeremy Corbyn leader of the Labor party go head to head in the b.b.c. Prime ministerial debate. I wasn't made welcome to Maidstone studios in Kent do you made up your mind yet wherever you live whoever you vote for one of these 2 men will be prime minister in a week's time tonight for the next hour Boris Johnson and Jeremy Corbyn will debate the future of our country. I. Knew Mr Johnson nor Mr Corbett know the questions that they're going to face they'll be posed by members of our audience here they've been chosen by the pollsters some fans or comrades who invited people who support both of their policies and others who have yet to decide how to work vote people are all bank grounds people from all walks of life they have to ask their questions to listen to the answers to listen to the bait not to cheer on a team let alone to believe their opponents my job then is to try and make sure that their questions do get on set and that this debate is as free and as fair as possible so apologies gently if I have to interrupt you occasionally just to make sure this debate is fair and to make sure that we do make progress through all the questions we want to get through now both leaders are going to make opening and closing statements the order was decided by the toss of a coin the term recall been won the toss and elected to go 1st Jimmy Calderwood you give us your opening statement please thank you labor is ambitious for our country and ambitious for you I want to build a society where there is real opportunity for all where everyone feels supportive and secure and. Where everybody has dignity in old age there are now 4000000 children living in poverty in our country people can't get appointments to see their g.p. Elderly people can't get the care they need and millions of families are struggling to pay bills and make ends meet they need an ambitious government on their side that will put money in their pockets save our n.h.s. Rebuild our public services deliver free personal care for all the people and free education for all yes that does mean asking those with the broadest shoulders to pay a bit more in tax a vote for Labor is a vote for hope for real change and for a country that works for the many not just the few Mr Goldman thank you Mr Johnson would you like to make your opening statement please on Thursday next week this country reaches a turning point we can get done we can end the paralysis we can transform our country with massive investments in health 50000 more nurses more funding for every school 20000 more police we can spread opportunity fairly with fantastic infrastructure education and technology and the only way to unleash the potential of this whole country is if we get a working majority Conservative government because the only possible alternative is another hung parliament with Jerry Corbin and Nicholas sturgeon with an economic agenda that would take this country back decades and 2 referendums one on Scotland and a 2nd toxic and divisive referendum on the e.u. Let's give that nightmare a Miss let's end the chaos the deadlock Let's get bricks it done with a One Nation Conservative government and take this country forward it's Boris Johnson thank you very much and it will get on with our questions there are almost no rules tonight questions will be posed by the audience both men will get the chance to answer them and to debate their own Cers as well our 1st question tonight comes from John Pearse l jumper cell please. If John Major is recent intervention worrying to you Mr Johnson and if Mr Blair. Intervention worrying to you Mr Corbett. Will these interventions make any difference to the result of the general election or are they just a couple of old has been. So the question of Mr Pearl is referring to the fact that both John Major your former leader and Tony Blair your film a leader have suggested that voters should consider voting for all the parties and not giving you the majority you seek Boris Johnson your answer to Mr Purcell Well I'm just a personal John I have the utmost respect of course for all former Conservative leaders and don't wish to deprecate it was a as a has been but I don't think he's right and we have a fantastic plan to get Bracks it done it's a deal that's ready to go it's up and ready we can get it done by Christmas get it back into parliament by Christmas if we have a majority Conservative government and. All I mean unlike Mr Major I lead a party that is not totally united all $630.00 plus conservative and it's at this election actually back my deal is only united as you got rid of anybody who didn't agree with it we have a model we have a very very broad spectrum of views in the in our party but they all back on the amount the mystery is what is the position of the leader of the opposition on this subject because I've yet to hear what the deal is that he wants to achieve and whether he bats it himself Jerico in the question was Should you be worried about Tony Blair saying to people don't necessarily vote Labor they assume coming up on Thursday is the future of this country are we going to continue with this level of inequality of poverty amongst our children of underfunding of our schools and a threat to our National Health Service and a no deal breaks it which the prime minister is threatening us with or a trade deal with Donald Trump in the USA which will damage our public services a vote for Labor is a vote to end a stereotype of vote for Labor is to invest in the future of this country and so Tony Blair and joy. A major welcome to make the comments that they do I urge them to think for a moment think for a moment at the reality of what 9 years of a sturdy has done to the people of this contact your policy Mr Goldman that the most successful Labor prime minister in history cannot back you to move into Number 10 I am fighting this election to win it to win it on our manifesto to win it on our manifesto which I believe will bring real hope to those people that been denied it during these years of austerity isn't the truth that many voters think there's an impossible choice that either of you at Number 10 Downing Street well I hope very much that people will vote for a One Nation Conservative government and don't get bricks it done and I think we actually if you look at our agenda it's positive it's progressive it will unite the country involved massive investment in public services and take us forward our government will empower people our government will not leave anybody behind that is the whole principle the golden thread that runs through our manifesto Let's turn to Brett it's already been raised many times already and on this question we're going to take 2 questions one from a lever voter warm from a remain voter So 1st of all evolve Emmett's a new voted leave please bracket have taken up how much time reggae people are really fed up can you guarantee that it will happen next year can you guarantee it'll out next year and then Tom Clark who voted remain how would we be better off from the backseat deal or feature labor to you compared to what we already have as a member of the e.u. Thank you very much let's turn 1st to Yvonne Emerson's question can you guarantee the BRICs it will happen next year Jeremy Corbett. What I can guarantee is that will bring an end to this debate and we will have a final say for the people of this country we cannot go on forever saying we represent the 48 or 52 I want to lead a government that represents the whole country and the whole community so we will within 3 months negotiate a live agreement with the European Union that will protect trade and jobs and the peace process in Northern Ireland and put that alongside remain in a referendum within 6 months and that will be the end of the matter my role as a leader of my party as the prime minister would be to ensure that decision is carried out whatever it is but nobody voted to lose their job or to lose trade with Europe people voted for many many reasons but I think we've got to come together and bring this issue to an end not go down the road of sweetheart deals with the USA Boris Johnson Well I'm sure the frustration of both are questions about the length of time it's taken to get brakes it's done and what we can do with the deal that we have is get it done by January 31st you come out and then to get to the question about the advantages we can do such things as improve our standards for Animal Welfare ban the live export of animals we can cut the 80 on tampons we can do things to create free ports around the country there are all sorts of ways in which we can regulate differently better we can also of course control our immigration system for the 1st time a long time now what I haven't heard from the leader of Labor party is this deal that he thinks he can get in 3 months time who is going to negotiate it because as far as I can see everybody on the labor front bench is campaigning to remain apart from Mr Coburn who is who is neutral on the matter who is going to secure this deal how can you get a deal a new deal from Brussels for breaks it if you don't actually believe in it that's the the mystery that I felt recovered how do you get a daily arse if you don't really believe in it and John mud. And Diane Abbott is told all the rest week there is I remain we get a deal in order to ensure that whatever the outcome of final vote the trade relationship continues with Europe if you go down the road it will take 7 years to negotiate a trade deal with the USA you can have queues all up the m 20 in Kent you're going to have a problem of supply chain to all of our manufacturing industries you're going to have job losses on a huge scale nonsense he says unless you have a serious deal with the e.u. To maintain that trade relationship we have a deal it's a wonderful deal we're coming out on January 31st if we can get a working majority and I'm afraid listening to Mr corballis as it's absolutely clear that what would happen next years would be a period of negotiation about this mystery deal led by somebody in the Labor Party that was we can't get identify since it was a call he doesn't believe in the deal himself it would they be put to another referendum to the people of this country parliament our country would spend a whole year more probably more wracked locked in debate about bricks when what people want to do is move on and focus on the issues facing them evil turn it over and then we can do immediately Mr Johnson will spend at least 7 years negotiating with the USA on access to our public services on the price of medicines in Britain on the access to our National Health Service and he knows he can't get a deal quickly with the USA because of the way 'd in which the Us political system works and so what he will do is walk out of a relationship with the e.u. Into a relationship with nobody and that is where the chaos will come what's your answer to that very far sensible I'm afraid that shows you a slightly groups of of the reality which is that as we leave the e.u. We are coming out with our deal with the state of perfect equivalents 00 quota will be able to begin not only putting in our Australian stock points based system for immigration taking back control of our laws take. Back control of our money but also be honest about a trade Mr John talks not just with countries around the world but we will we will do a fantastic deal with the e.u. And with the u.s. And we believe in years on since you again and again say the phrase gets done that's right but I'm done a trade deal with the you know you don't know you could do a trade deal with the e.u. You don't know there will be no deal on trade with the e.u. Introduce you on the country we have a fantastic deal it is that ready to go and look trade for good you don't have water what it has what it what deal is for British businesses of all kinds to have perfect confidence in the way we leave the e.u. Because we are in a state of equivalence with 0 tariff 0 a quota exact regulatory framework and we have ample time to get on and build a new free trade partnership not just with the e.u. But with countries around the studio and the great beauty of the deal is that it gets bricks it done gets it out of Parliament stops the round wrangling stops the chaos and moves us for thank you very much Jeremy doggedly Jeremy top and. Others are going to spend years negotiating with the USA He's going to spend years rowing the fact he didn't reach a proper green with the before leaving and as the documents we've shown today indicate he hasn't been exactly straightforward on the issues surrounding trade with Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland and so I do think we need a bit of openness from the government we forced them to release the documents or we released them for them actually a week ago which showed the access that the Us were demanding to our public services and today the news came out of what's happening with Northern Ireland and briefly Mr Gove to be really didn't hear the news what are you claiming the documents show and then we'll put it to Malaysia quite clearly that there are going to be charges there are going to be customs checks that are going to be restrictions on trade between Britain and Northern Ireland thank you very much Boris Johnson actually that is not true the whole of the u.k. Comes out. England Scotland Wales Northern Ireland together we do free trade deals together nor the dollars by the customs of the of the u.k. And we are united and I have to say I think it's what I love to hear out of a tree and it says unfettered access I think is what it says and it says unfettered access that also in question is the number in the factoring that will have that is what you want to place and that is what the document also said is that all that are just part of the customs territory of the you can imagine is there is the problem is the drugs or the d.v.d. The union issue where your partners they agree with them I'm not you know I don't actually because because our deal is a great deal let me just make 11 point I do find it slightly curious to say the least Nick to be lectured about the union between Great Britain and Northern Ireland by a man who all his life political life has campaigned to break up that union and actually supported for 4 decades the our way in the counties that are part of the policy to destroy it I must say I find it a curiosity to recover what I wrote out of that the prime minister showing a degree of honesty about the range once he's actually made with Northern Ireland he spoke at d.p. Conferences that there would be no restrictions whatsoever we now know there are restrictions he should and could have said that at the time and so it is a question of openness on all of this being when he says you've supported people who are opposed to you need your whole life you don't even believe what I did and it is always wanted to say a peace process in Northern Ireland and that is exactly what we've got and thank you to the Labor Government negotiated after 911 briefly thank you that was a 2nd question I want to give you the chance if you remember let me just remind you Tom Coughlin asked you Mr Johnson how we better off from the break to deal or a future labor deal compared to being in the police thank you thanks very much Tom and there will be all sorts of ways I mentioned the ways we can cut v.a. T. On sanitary products or regulate differently for bio science or do you have reports in areas that need investment you can trigger growth investor. And some of the. Left behind coast to communities by having Freeport as 130 countries do around the world we can't because of e.u. Rules another major advantage is of course that we take back control of a lot of money that we don't otherwise send to the e.u. But I might mention also our ability to control our immigration which is not unimportant I'm a believer in immigration for people of talent who want to come here fantastic but we've got to control it thank you democratically Jericho and you're also the Russians to do forgive me how will we be better off from BRICs that you're asked if you have your d o or indeed and you go to referendum and it passes and we do because we will make sure that our jobs and our manufacturing industries are able to continue trading over half of our trade is with Europe at the present time walk away from that put a barrier on that then you've got real problems for manufacturing industry jobs all across the country many jobs have already been lost because of the uncertainty surrounding all this we know how to deal with this teachers and 6 months the prime minister suggestions of a dick trade deal with the USA which will take at least in their estimation 7 years to negotiate means 7 years of complete uncertainty and continued job losses in manufacturing industry when you've been asked by Boris Johnson I want to give you the chance so is that why you won't say where you stand on Brady is it if you don't know what you think about Bracks it or that you do know but you won't help it's because I think the country has to come together and cannot keep on negotiating an argument itself about 48 versus 52 it has to be an agreement we can reach with the that is credible and would maintain that trade relationship but would be outside of e.u. Membership or full membership of the e.u. That is a way of bringing people together and a government that implements that decision whatever it is very very critical cannot be uncertain. And the uncertainty on Bret's if you don't know what the deal is that you want to. Do either go shaded deal you cannot negotiate a deal if you're neutral on it it's absolutely inconceivable and I think it is a I'm afraid to say a failure of leadership not to have a position on the greatest issue facing this country at the most Thank you very cannot get a good deal for this country if you don't believe it I want to understand how Mr Corbin proposes to negotiate a deal or bread when you put that term and he's had the chance to respond so let's move on to the National Health Service another crucial issue we're going to question from faith zoom it's faith Springs. I am returning to my message that is next April it costs a lot to train as a math but a starting salary how would you dare with a shortage of nastiness and ensure the n.h.s. Can retain them so Faith who is a student nurse says How would you deal with the shortage of nurses and ensure that the n.h.s. Can retain them Boris Johnson will fade thank you very much for what you are doing and I believe passionately we need we need more nurses that in the n.h.s. I've been in power in office for about 130 days and everything I've seen convinces me this is not the time to invest massively in our n.h.s. So what we're doing is putting in the biggest cash boost 34000000000 pounds more 50000 more nurses and I should unpack that to give people complain about it but it needs retaining the 19000 who might otherwise drop out of the service and then recruiting another $31000.00 new new nurses plus we're bringing back the $5000.00 pound $31.00 thing that we're doing that I think is sensible not our Australian style points based system allows us to do is to encourage nurses from overseas to come in to fill to fill some of the gaps by shortening the the time to the because now what I think is totally incomprehensible is to have a system where you try to get more nurses and more staff into the n.h.s. And similar tenuously ask the whole of the public sector to work a 4 day week thank you very much. It's a bad for the in a German court thank you just to remind you of the question faces a lawyer so Loomis says How would you deal with the shortage of nurses and ensure the n.h.s. Can retain Well there are $43000.00 nurses vacancies at the present time it was a conservative government that cut the nurse 1st rate was a Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition that increased student fees to $9000.00 pounds a year and that is a major contributing factor to the stress levels that exist within our n.h.s. It is a breaking point it is a crisis point go to any any department and you'll see that straight away so what we do is end university fees which will mean more people going to studying what we will do is return the nurse 1st rate probably on a more generous scale than it was in the past and we will recruit as rapidly as we possibly can but crucially will fund the n.h.s. Properly $40000000000.00 pounds in total will go into the n.h.s. In order to fund it properly and that has to be done the prime minister the day after was appointed and that's that was going to be 40 new hospital this week later that became 20 a bit later on it came 6 new hospitals he seems to have a problem with the figures about hospital building in Britain but I'll tell it like it now this is very clear thank you thank you that's like a good news think Mr who has a problem come up with that policy but. The. Reality is that we have a very clear agenda which is to upgrade 20 hospitals to build 40 new ones it's perfectly true that the cash allocation for the whole hospital build is for 6 initially but we're putting in the seed funding now so then do the architects to do the plans do all the business case so that in 10 years time as a result of the decisions taken just in the last 130 days by this government there will be 40 new trauma that is called in this country well what's wrong with that is 12 hours or 15 hours after being appointed prime minister he came to parliament and Grandy announced those 40 new hospitals it turned out they weren't that. When he was asked where they were going to be when that was then reduced to 20 and then it became seed funding for 6 it's not credible to make those kind of statements and not able to back it up one with any serious plan is it credible Mr Coburn Mr Johnson asters are going to go see credible to say you'll deal with nursing shortage while agreeing to a 4 day week which will surely make the shortages what we're have said is that we want to see the working week come down at the average working way across the country is a major hours and we are trained to bring it down by improved productivity industries and services there is no plan to bring in a 4 day week in the n.h.s. But there is a plan to properly invest in our n.h.s. Because I am fed up with seeing people queuing and waiting and being in desperate straits trying to get an appointment to see it or to go into hospital for sure. John McDonald said very clearly there was a plan for a 4 day working week and it's not clear why Mr Goble is resolved from that tonight but I will I will say is that we will invest massively in the n.h.s. This isn't a new government's very ambitious government I want to see more funding going into our public services where levelling up funding of education in schools around the country 20000 more police but we can only do that by having a strong economy and the only way I mean you know like is that the only way we can have a strong economy is if we move this country forward and get bricks it done and I just remind you 11 very few words one report that came out the other day there is 150000000000 pounds worth of investment waiting to come into this country if we can get my deal across the line I think in this country thank you the hank you Mr Johnson. Gave Me I'm sure I'll get Corbin's to reference to give me interrupt you and if he is very close on the time you've had rather I would just like to make over needs to catch up with that and serves and liberal Democrats passed the Health and Social Care Act after 2010 and that has led to 10000000000 pounds of private sector involvement in the n.h.s. With often different wage structures and a difficulty in money. When Labor will end privatization with the n.h.s. And return it to what it was always intended to be a fully funded fully functioning public health service in this country you will end product innovation. Or you still claiming that the n.h.s. Is up for sale because your document doesn't seem to show any such thing well read the documents that were discussed in secret and the government refused to release them between themselves and the Us administration about access to public services and the extension of the life of patents on medicines which would increase medicine costs in this country a person trying to said many times people take too little for us medicines around the world that's the kind of agenda the prime minister wants to get involved with that's the kind of deal they're trying to make with the us or is Johnson he says you want to sell it and have to say this is pure triangle stuff we've heard it time and time again from the Labor Party during this election campaign. Here about the remember next. What I believe very passionately in the I use it I love it it's it's one of the most incredible things about this country it is a martyr on the world the central idea that if any of us get sick all of us take care of him it's a fantastic thing now we believe in n.h.s. Free at the point of use and no under no circumstances will we sell it off to anybody in any kind of a trade I would just remind I just really don't dispute that in this digital mind there is a screen what he's quoted which is that American trade negotiations say they want more access to the ending and eyes made it absolutely clear to everybody that under no circumstances will happen and that the biggest privatisation of the n.h.s. Of course took place under the law so labor so who and what the last Labor government which which could in the course of the ruinous fight the router's p.f. I system and I've gone round many hospitals talking to fantastic staff and management there who are bearing the back thank you that determine he will not. Just a year ago in your party opposed the formation of the n.h.s. In the 1st place going back to $940.00 per unit and I know that you have to say there if it is the fix it is actually so little so actually it is actually so that the more important thing is that your party has resided over cuts in our h.s. Increased waiting times and waiting lists record number of people were late in getting appointments and a social care system and that is in crisis and there is time in This Is Us is now than there were under the Labor Party and that's because we've had a strong economy that's enabled us to make investments and we are now going to step those investments up because we believe passionately in the n.h.s. And the way to take this country forward the way to get it movie is to get rid of the blockade in parliament get bricks going and move their afford to grow and I was one nation which Eric Holder said to me let me just ask you just a little over a 1000 vacancies that's the fact understood Now you sent an e-mail on behalf of the Labor Party saying imagine opening a 5 figure bill for your cancer treatments except that that is totally misleading there is no possibility of anybody having n.h.s. Cancer treatment and having to pay a 5 if you end up with a privatized service that's what you get if you end up with that u.s. Trade deal that is what you've got now the prime minister says is not going to do that sort of a trade deal if that's the case why did the talks go on for 2 years it doesn't take 2 years to say no to privatization of the n.h.s. Thank you Judge thank you very much indeed thank you very much you got lots and lots of questions to get through I want to give you the chance to move on now because we've had a lot of questions want to we're going to make rolled up quicker than the rest I'll come to one of those in just a 2nd you can join in this debate of course hash tag b.b.c. Debate on social media and before we return to one of our longer questions one interesting question from Phil waste who was written in can't be here tonight which has the better track record of raising the stand. It's the living standards of the Paul socialism or capitalism Jeremy corporate socialism carried out in a democratic way in this country in Scandinavia and other places and has raised the living standards of the very poorest and it was the post-war Labor government didn't have Lee to improve the living standards of the poorest working class communities in this country and our Labor government will do the same again and I would say that if you believe it is one nation conservatism which understands the dark vital importance of a dynamic market economy is the only way in which you can pay for fantastic public services and for giving to looking after the poorest and neediest in our society that is the balance and symmetry at the heart of what I'm trying to achieve with this government and I think that to attack capitalism is Mr Coburn and Mr McDonnell do is absolutely senseless and by the way could to continue to attack all free trade is I also think I think ignorant of the fat just replays are going to do you think he wants to destroy capitalism readers that you're not John McDonald who is the shadow chancellor and some would say that the intellectual driving force behind this type of socialism is committed he says to fomenting the overthrow of capitalism I think that is a is a mistake I don't think that's the right way forward for our country I believe in supporting businesses I believe in cutting letting my Yahoo search everybody out one way you don't leave people behind you don't ignore the fact that 4000000 of our children living in poverty you don't ignore the fact that there are thousands of people sleeping on the streets of this country like their faiths the richest country in the world the inequality has got worse 150 billionaires in Britain more people poor than ever thank you right we're going to turn on to a broader question. Moving on to a broader question about the economy for both of the leaders will have the chance to talk at greater length Andrew Brook has our next. Please thank you. Both you say that if you're asked to form a government next week you will spend spend spend making your plans expansion plans ideas seem like a fantasy How are you how are we really going to pay for everything that you are promising and thank you very much indeed spend spend spend he says you're both going to do judge but he wants to know how both of you are going to pay or rather how we're going to pay for your plans. And Drew thank you very much and we will certainly be making some big investments in as I say in the n.h.s. In putting more police on the streets in lifting up our education funding for every school in the country will continue with that but what we won't do is borrow hugely to fund day to day investment and that is the mistake that the Labor Party would make they would rack up our debts they would put up spending to $1.00 trillion to answer your question what that would mean is a tax burden of $2400.00 pounds per taxpayer and you know that you hear from labor sometimes that the burden is I think Mr Coburn said it just the burden is going to fall only on $150.00 billionaires or the top 5 percent actually people as little as $20000.00 pounds a year under their plans we pay 1000 pounds a year more intact everybody says the people are not rich we'll pay for your plans we're very clear about that and the only party that produced a fully costed manifesto with a great book that answer to every piece of expenditure we want the problem with this country is we've gone too far down the road of free market economics we've created too much inequality and if every single bit of our manifesto was carried out tomorrow we would just about reach the level of the public services of France or Germany that is how far back what we've gone there has to be investment in our schools why are so many children in oversized classes why are so many children growing up in insecure housing because there isn't sufficiency of care. So housing available why are the Suddenly people waiting for social care why do so many people in middle age have to go into debt to pay for their kids to go through university and the social care that their older parents need it's simply time to invest in our future thank you Boris Johnson. And I agree and I agree but the difference between Mr Corbett a myself is that his plans and we were as I say we will be making substantial investments within the fiscal headroom that we have but whilst bearing down on our debt over the life of the parliament but what we will do is rack up such debts that the markets demand a higher interest rate and you end up with huge tax burdens falling on everybody else label always ends their time in office with an economic crisis with a book called The overlook that would start their time in office with an economic crisis Mr Goldman he says that all of us will pay more in our tact is not just the rich and independent think tanks into Fiscal Studies agree that's what they don't agree with that point actually were clearly not true they said of your claim that only the top 5 percent of earners would pay more they questioned some aspects of our program and we're happy to discuss that with them but we are the party that actually produced the funding of it the Conservative Party have produced nothing in the way of how they're going to pay for anything they suggest they're doing other than tax cuts it's very hard to see how you can expand services if you're cutting the income base of government in the 1st place a fair question to saying is the has to be investment to deal with the inequalities within our society pretend to cut taxes and pay for more Mr Jones under Labor Labor Labor didn't produce the the funding for anything I'm afraid it's the hard work of the British people and it's the heart it's British companies it's British businesses large and small that produce the funding that pays for our National Health Service never the else and I were a government that understands that if you're going to have a dynamic market economy you cannot clobber them you can't clobber companies with the highest. Taxes in in Europe which is what Mr Coburn the labor laws would do it would be entirely wrong for this country to go down the route that they're proposing I quintillion I less than they used to call the let me going to you he says your prospectus aliens you different school studies top economic think that your prospect as they say is not credible Well you haven't said how you pay for Social said how you pay for future tax cuts not credible as well on the contrary a program is for the cost that is there in the manifesto and it's a great great proposes to leave and who in his party proposes to counter him believe he'll he's going to have made that point very well earlier on let's turn to another question now a very important subject given the events of recent days the issue of security and the question comes from Richard balustrade Mr Brown strictly. Your most important responsibility if you become prime minister in a week's time we can proceed given the terror attacks we sing.
