87312000 Christmas starts here will find out about the festive celebrations in the capital of the next 5 weeks and start with an adult trail. As in. The morning and welcome to b.b.c. Radio London's breakfast show with me Vanessa Feltz it's 5 past 7 on Wednesday the 20th of November we're delighted have you company this morning and we're going to plant without further ado into the top story the 1st t.v. Leaders' debate of the general election campaign was held last night and I'd like to know if you watched it if you didn't why not if you did tell us why you did and what we're hoping for from it who did you think won the battle on the box of course the real battle is going to be at the ballot box and here on the breakfast say we're looking at the key constituencies in London that could help decide who wins this election today we're looking at the most marginal seat in the entire country and that is the seat of Kensington Labor took it from the conservatives in a shock when back in 2017 by margin of just 20 votes Joining me now is the Labor candidate Emma Dent who was elected as Labour's 1st ever m.p. For Kensington 2 years ago Hello Emma Good morning to you good morning my 1st question to you and I'm sure you're not surprised is how did you think Jeremy called been performed last night in the Tele debate hall I think he was very much a self which is very straight forward to his shame and his government to our credit checks and trying get the audience on his side he just he's just him himself and people are going to use the humility specially from you know the strange culture we live they were where politicians are supposed to be celebrities so I think he he was absolutely 100 percent himself and was that a good thing or a bad thing I mean it was very savvy political to be too much yourself and that that works and against you isn't it I suppose out of the I pull out of the format with 'd funny or could actually that not neither of the day because really cuts into that across into the. Way as it were. We did not or the way they got us into this subject I think the format was slightly folks here and neither of them could really put across I mean one of the one of the issues that he could put himself across but one of the problems you might admit with Jeremy cool being is that when asked about Brecht seeds he doesn't have a view it's the most important issue of the time it's consuming people who don't care less about politics business talking about it the whole time when he was the leader of the opposition what to do doesn't say when Boris Johnson says a victory for Labor would mean no one but 2 different referendums didn't deny it rather than a Democratic position I mean let's just remember treason may wish to remain he had to lead a proxy government posture and was actually came to mind as to where they were going he was going to support remain only he is now leaving the March. On the stand I have spoken to that he's trying to be very Because you know I never forget that 60 percent of labor constituencies voted to leave we can't leave them behind where passionate remain. Which we are and I'm certainly very much remain a we're going to leave everyone else behind his old friend the Democratic position which conservative is saying no one change their mind we're leaving all the Liberal Democrats are saying 50 percent the country it doesn't change their mind we are staying and neither of them are offering democracy right you you are obviously 20 votes between you and failure in the last election so you did succeed but it was a tiny tiny margin and it's not all smooth sailing is in the power of Kensington because you've reported the Lib Dems can does it so much of the piece he made about you and Grenfell What is the issue what happened well and he repeated. Able to live a serious false accusation that was made right after the fire was responsible. Or more have a hand in in the decision making process which has been needed and I proved this over and over again it doesn't suit people to look at the facts I have a repeat total Bussell with all the links to all the committees I was in wasn't on them when I was more aisles away from it and even if I had been sitting on that committee nobody would have listened to a backbench opposition councillor time on on spending piracies it is that's just not how it works so it's a lie and actually is quite dangerous and I suppose last time I had looked at threats and I had to have police advise security of my house it's actually a very dangerous thing and you know I've given him many many opportunities just to say I'm sorry I made a mistake I made a mistake on this one and I would walk away and walk away today he said it was done in error but he has when I should tell you you spoke to a reporter yesterday and he didn't apologize to you say what is your next step what are you doing about it well I am I say approved we report it to the police my I'm taking legal advice and I genuinely don't want to do that this is it's a lie that is putting me and my stuff actually volunteers in danger you know we we had one threat of a smell threat from the worst I've ever had but you know some people will believe that most people in those kinds Internets is complete nonsense but you know there's the it only takes one person to believe in all those Emma let's have a let's have a puppet you know if he's putting me in danger and that's very very bad politics and if that if that's how he's going to play this then he's going to find it difficult work you know is conceited and you won 5 just 20 votes last time how you can a managed to hold on this time do you think you know I mean remember right overturned a majority of 7000 to get to my 25 I mean since then I've worked amazingly hard and I've had actually Rachel Johnson felt that I had been an extremely effective constituency m.p. Which is that's going on my next leaflets I think. So you know I want them amazingly hard I support a people's campaign. Across from the night specialist can and that's how I've always worked as a camp and I've done but as a as an m.p. And people appreciate that I work very very hard and I know a lot of. A lot of people I for with have been quite surprised that surprised I value all our communities not just the one that's right but 11. And so I think we work on that I stand by my record and you know we are a remain constituency and you know I haven't I haven't wavered I haven't been part of the government I didn't want to be leader of the Conservative Party as Senshi my dad said you talked about him embracing your whole community and we have visited b.b.c. Radio and in the charity in Kensington that provides activities to children who aren't from wealthy background is called into center and they tell us that child poverty is a hidden problem in a constituency like you was it seems affluent wealthy you know very expensive shops and restaurants and everything else and yet child poverty doesn't seem to be something you're talking about on your election leaflets and we wondered why you're not while I'm getting on to that right you know I'm I'm I was here my manifesto right now but I'll be working on child poverty for many many many many years. With a report I did 5 years ago and on the most unequal per impression which was completely backed up by fact so many of us national statistics were Guinness this up for years about money trashing my children I want about rickets we now have a case for kids of your process and so I've been talking about this for many many many many years as you know my last 2 years have been. Overwhelmed partly by the vast amount of where we had to do with with going for affected people and I work on it every day and this will be definitely tackled in mind by many I'm sure along come to be aware that in the European elections. This year came in 3rd place in Kensington behind the Lib Dems and behind the Bracks it Party to worry you know really I think you know people vote for different reasons in different directions so I don't think they were actually you know they broke. Awfully awfully divisive and that's divided people right in the middle of family and community so I don't I I do genuinely think. Different than the what one might be 5 the world for the 1st referendum people to change their minds those one should my 1st ever photo my best to stay in my Common Market. So that would that was also split across party lines in $75.00 it's not really a short tele whatever I'll give you because we're drawing to a close here I'll give you 30 seconds to tell us why you should be successful and those voters in Kensington to vote for you in this next election I'm incredibly hard work and I pull no punches I am who I am and I will always work for the community and the. Well thank you very much indeed that's Emmett and Co the Labor candidate for Kensington we're going to be hearing from the conservative candidates nature in the show and a full list of the candidates standing in Kensington in this election is on the b.b.c. News website and we have also tweeted it will be straight back with you after the travel news. The m 25 clockwise says junction 160 just after junction 16 or traffic stops at the moment because of a broken down car busy on the m 25 and clockwise from Junction 26. Junction $25.00 it Enfield and so there's another broken sound 3 points which I'm to the usual to Mason and clock in plain service the 3rd to Clay who are Avenue was closed off by the police following a stabbing but it looks like the destructions on the vote has been moved slightly So there's been no longer effect. And some good news from Westminster the same we say often bridge streets in Westminster Bridge after being closed for security works on the train south east and trains are towards Charing Cross able to call Lewisham this morning because of signalling problems the cheap that posting a good service is more trouble $730.00. This is London the stuff I talk about most whether it's on air will often is the stuff that we talk about and it has to be a cell how many people use it as a sort of Epicenter to what they're going to do on a Saturday night or what they going to recant all of the things we talk about a lot on their on the like like radio phone is a cost of living along the if you've got your house your mortgage you don't need to rent but if you do I am fascinated with the people the cool me and speak to me on b.b.c. Radio. Islam today what make London great c.b.c. Radio. Nothing is no welcome back to the program I'm going to ask you a personal question I hope you'll forgive me this is the question When was the last time you visited the dentist I'm not doing this because I want to help to you and harangue you a boss you were bragging if you were a timely reminder you meant to get to the dentist every 6 months or the you know you are and have been topped out it's not that the reason I'm asking is because if you can't remember the last time that you went to the dentist you might well not be alone it turns out millions of us a missing out on the dental care that we badly need the b.b.c. Has found almost 3000000 of us just put off by the cost of the treatment even more of us assume we can't get any treatment so we haven't even tried we haven't even bothered to try joining me on the program is Eddie Crouch from the British Dental Association and a way to Good Morning Good Morning Well you know a lot of us don't like seeing the dentist can we just because we don't love you and think that you're delightful human beings to God for dinner with but we don't know you're probably the shopping's in our mouths and give us give us terrible tellings all freezing too many Kelly Wallace in a misspent. Yes and all of that we don't like is that the real issue here is obviously 'd people aren't getting 'd access to get problems dog knows the early and once the dog knows live for far less invasive treatments necessary So 'd putting off a visit to the dentist I'm afraid he's not cost effective in the long run it's not really very good for your overall health tell us about n.h.s. Dentistry which among us are entitled to free dental checkups which among us are entitled to free dental cat what kind of cost is it meant to be if we're not entitle to that right Ok well anyone under $18.00 is entitled to free treatment and if your 18 and in full time education you carry on being exempt from charges until you're 90 pregnant ladies during their pregnancy and for a year afterwards are entitled to free dental treatment I'm people on certain types of benefits basically on low income benefit so just because you are on benefit doesn't necessarily mean you are entitled to free dental treatment. And then in England there are 3 charges different in the other countries but in England there are 3 charges if you have a checkup and skull and polish an x. Rays that's 22 pounds 70 if you need any treatment for the things 6 tractions roof roof innings and things like that of 62 parents and if you need anything that involves of the Burra treat like a crown a bridge or a danger that's about 269 pounds right and what people are saying is a that not sure they'll be treated on the n.h.s. Today they kind of Temple the or even try to be they can find the sorts of dentists who agree to do n.h.s. Treatment anyway to just come find anybody who took off to them then please the b.b.c. Have done this research because we've been saying this is a profession for a long time on the access to n.h.s. Dentistry no it's just. Isolated problems is it's a countrywide problem many of my colleagues don't see the future in the n.h.s. . The working conditions for n.h.s. Dentistry is not very good to the contract we work in is not very good it's very difficult for n.h.s. Practices to actually recruit stuff so there is an impending problem dentistry is one of the areas of the n.h.s. That side a reduction in funding in the last 10 years unlike other parts of the n.h.s. I'm glad that this is being highlighted during the political campaign it's ongoing so hopefully any new administration can give dentistry some priority I mean anybody who pays privately educated a dentist will know that what you've just said 22 pounds 70 for a checkup 62 pounds for a failing and 200 quid for a crown a bridge what he's got it's infinitesimal in comparison with what private dentists charge so what you're saying is it isn't it that dentists would rather do private work it you know amply paid it's lucrative it makes them a good living that n.h.s. Well where they have to really scrimp and which doesn't make a good living that's why it's not just in our imagination that we can't find a dentist which is on the n.h.s. That just isn't one. Obviously the issue about pay is that most private dentists and n.h.s. Dentist who own practices and similar types of money but what they have to do to achieve that income is completely different obviously the number of patients that you see in his practice are huge in comparison to what you would see in a private practice you know you know the working conditions the the the time you have with the patient the appropriate you have with the patients the time you have to actually explain things properly and properly work through consent and various other issues you know are much much better in private practice and they can be an n.h.s. Practice and without investment the quality of. Of care that you get unfortunately would differ so what do you advise my lovely listeners if you if this this knowledge about when did you last case the dentist really does I would get a week or so point but it may just give a twinge right in one particular tooth is I say oh gosh you know I should have gone to these high saying when you know it's not great what it was is the advice of dentists that will look after them on the n.h.s. Very hard to find well good there is a website n.h.s. Choices where you can go and access information about practices in your area where you may be able to gain access Unfortunately it's not often updated so you may have a lot of ringing around but really I would advise that if you are struggling in your particular area when you get a new employee you actually complain to them about the services are available in your area far that way we may be able to improve the services there for patients in a day I don't want to frighten everybody but maybe I did just a little tiny bit just a little bit if you don't go to the dentist if you just say well I'm not going I can't find an n.h.s. Dentist it's expensive I'm sure I'll be fine I can still bite into the occasional apple So what do I need to worry about what might happen if you just don't buy the gang Well suddenly things like all cancer on the increase is one of the most rapidly increasing or cancers that we have in really why because smoking is on the decrease why the world can't strong increase Well unfortunately the viral causes of all cancer are on the increase so people who don't smoke and who don't drink who are normally is a high risk for oral cancer and they're getting oral cancers from the human the human papillomavirus so. You know people in their forty's are getting oral counts it's normal prevalence of like a cancer and for Security Council and the real issue here is the earlier it start knows the more lifesaving the prognosis is well thank you very much for doing today the crowds if. The British Dental Association I wish I could supply you lovely listening with a list of names and addresses of dentists who will treat you on the n.h.s. But I'm fraid I call because all not many and the reason why they don't make much of a living when they do it it's not nearly as lucrative as treating private patients you can see kind of like only that in that seat so it's really hard so we are asking you if you found a good n.h.s. Dentist What's the treatment been like Have you looked and looked and not found a dentist what's going on with your tooth can you dental hygiene and care because we need teeth we need on the ashes you know that I'm bypass as I wish I looked after me teeth is the very 1st line of it you don't want to be one of those oh dear right let's go for the weather to cake in salad go to I met some junior can sell as last night at Kew Gardens delightful the delightful companions now really really nice not a good chat but it was really a pleasure and they said people tell us our mothers famous but she isn't I said to be seen on television every day of course she's made it seem really like I'm reading it. And I would have to tell me what's going on with the weather it's still pretty chilly out there this morning but not as cold as yesterday temperatures largely above 0 frost free there want to sports which you might just get a little spark which is a beautiful start actually a beautiful sunrise out there at the moment but of high cloud which is great for light refraction So that's why it's looking so pretty hazy sunshine through the day it's going to be for a nice day temperatures are 8 is still pretty cold still breezy to the winds coming from the direction from the southeast Regardless it's still chilly now overnight tonight we will see more clouds some place spells at 1st but the clouds come quite extensive moving in from the south on the west and that's going to cover all parts by dawn tomorrow morning stays dry and stays breezy temperatures down at 4 so again above 0 and then for to morning morning he's going to stay rather cloudy the low pressure which has been to the west the u.k. Which has been trying to fling weather fronts towards this week that have been battered off by high pressure in Scandinavia we lose that high pressure so we start to see those front China me even That's why it's going to be clarity tomorrow. And cold 8 Celsius should stay dry though. And then for Friday we should see some showers as we really lose that high pressure and the Southwest starts to wane so we see some outbreaks of rain potentially by the end of the week about temperatures also feeling a little less cold in double figures at least nothing Kate thank you very much indeed now of course there's breaking news from Tottenham Hotspur this morning in fact we heard explosions all over a news room I mean it's postulations of the explosion we kind of what was what this time of the morning oh my goodness as the story broke my Richard put it in a was sacked last night but he been in charge for 5 years and took Tottenham to their 1st Champions League final last season b.b.c. Radio Nandan sports Pete Stephens and I'm delighted to say that people joins me on the set of IP morning good morning both Or was this unexpected because that sound I mean you know our colleague Jason Rosen practically fell off his chair when this story broke well they say in football if you will miss it less than 12 hours off the Tottenham Hotspur announced the sacking of the manager Murray show pops a chain Oh they've mellowed told also the point to perform a chill semantics United boss Josie Marino and hear a contract for the end of the 202223 says oh why did they get rid of port city now . Well put it to you know in the last period of what since February I think the problem of playing 28 games of the time they've only got 25 points used as you said they reached the Champions League for an all. Of last season but that rather camouflages what was going on at the club to his pulled a lot of great comments to Tottenham and the way they play the football he's brought through a lot of good players many of the main the internationals now like a hurricane and barely alley but I think the Gloucester just wore off a little bit he hasn't won any trophies. In fact spalls have won it in trophies except for a couple League Cups in the last 20 years chairman Daniel Levy really had to act and what about Marie near has him really or is he the man they hear of the outcome of the outcome of the person that you would want to gallop into taught me if you're a supporter. Boy. Trail System Paul we know now and that's why I said I mean there is that at the Chelsea supporters smarting this morning from this news well I think there were way it was not the sort of done thing to go to one of your biggest competitors he had great success at Chelsea won the Premier League 3 times when he went to Manchester United that was a hard enough. To believe it wasn't so successful there and you've got to wonder though whether the portrait is manageress have success all over Europe is still that hungry now he doesn't play a sport of solid football some is going to have to win over the Spurs fans I was listening to the radio phone ins last night after the a males from the port of Tino leaving and the Spurs fans that were coming on there were some saying we won't really know he wins trophies others will say we don't want radio because he doesn't play the Spurs way a vibe what does that mean what is the Spurs style Pete more Spurs play this very attractive free flowing 4 ball they're a counter-attacking side as worry there is. No proof the last couple years is one great player plaudits for the style of play that is introduced at the club Marino plays a very solid defensive hitting teams on the counter-attack it's been very very effective but with mantras to city and live a poor and though play this open expansive football I think merinos style of thought was. Thank you very much indeed if Pete Stephen says so we have by that he's a sport says it's an extra be revered here b.b.c. Radio London I'm with delighted to progress with him great privilege and lovely listener we will be straight back with you after the news headlines. With the headlines a 730 I'm Jason Russell talk them have appointed Jason merinos who's just been hearing is the new man. Following the sacking of her it's a part to Tino last night the former Chelsea and Manchester United boss has signed a contract that runs until the end of the 202223 season a teenager has been stabbed to death in a fight in East London it happened around 10 last night Alpha's the 19 year old died at the scene Boris Johnson and Jeremy Corbyn of clash during a live t.v. Debates the pm accuse the Labor leader of not having a clear Breck's it policy Mr Corbyn said the n.h.s. Wasn't safe in conservative hands both of them were laughed at by the studio audience and 25 people have been found in a refrigerated container on a ferry travelling from Holland to the It comes just weeks after 39 people were found dead in a freezer lorry in Essex London's weather a fine day try with a good deal of sunshine just patchy clouds breezy with temperatures 8 Celsius 46 in Fahrenheit Now let's get the b.b.c. Radio London travel. The m 23 northbound just before the m 25 chasing down to a single lane because of a collision with traffic for Junction through it light water very slowly I'm 25 this morning in both directions approaching junction 16 at the end 40 clockwise is slowed from Junction 15 at the m 4 and she clockwise queuing from Junction 18 that's where after a couple of earlier problems anticlockwise the m $25.00 also slow from Junction 27th at the m. 11 mantles junction $25.00 Enfield but an infant for one hour and that's an hour opening enough to be closed this morning on the train south east and train sets wards Charing Cross unable to stop at Lewisham and southwestern railway have some cancellations for our service and because of a fault with the track any updates you can tweet at b.b.c. Travel and travel at quarter to 8. Coming up on b.b.c. Radio London's breakfast with me Vanessa Feltz your calls on last night's leaders' debate are you in thrall where you riveted you didn't. As a single scintillating 2nd of the Socratic discourse How did you think of going to say there are many many things I'd rather do wash my hair for example tea in the kitchen floor I do anything on the watch that stuff maybe you were glued there when if you did watch it what do you think do you agree with the headlines and say was pretty much even stevens neck and neck no clear victory or did you think that Boris wiped the floor with Jeremy or Jeremy wipe the floor with Boris What did you think and was there any chance at all that your mind was changed by the debate and if it wasn't what was the point if you already knew you are going to be no point there debating a tool over 807312000 we can be talking about that after the sport with Jason was an. Easy radio. Past the London School is let's get some more in Tottenham have appointed Joe is a Marine here is that new manager following the sacking of or is he a patina and a statement last night the club confirmed Pitino and his staff have been relieved of their T.T.'s the Argentines been in charge since joining from Southampton in 2014 he guided the club to their 1st ever Champions League final last season however Spurs have become this season import formula currently 14th in the Premier League having won just 3 of their 12 games they also crashed out of the cup against Lee 2 cultures to unite Ace was speaking to b.b.c. Radio London former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp said the club wouldn't have sacked patina if they didn't already have a good idea who they were going to replace him with Daniel Now if you think it's in this day I mailed out Ok let's have a look at your route Oh I don't know I. Always Know My know at work a lot about your but now I know they were well the top supporters just have set their shocked and saddened to hear of Pitino sacking I will never forget the joy he brought the fans and speaking to b.b.c. Radio London the co-chair of the trust Martin Clegg says he isn't convinced the former Chelsea boss has a marina is the right man to replace him it won't. Shore some people. Like conspiracy. It just seems the most unlikely probably. Only be seen as. Well other teams now Bromley manager Neil Smith says it was great to see so much support from their fans last night and he hopes they keep coming back just over 4 and a half 1000 supporters watched the National League promotion hopefuls lose one nail against crystal rivers in the f.a. Cup 1st from replay I just wanted to bring him back again I just I want that every week off into you know just the players Freud on it I think the club is big enough now to accommodate a more perfect we're playing enough football and show him what we can do for them to keep coming back and Wimbledon's manager again Hodges says he's loving the job despite recent results the Dons lost to Naylor Doncaster in their f.a. Cup 1st round replay last night Hodges won 4 of his 6 matches in temperature charge following the suspension of Wally downs but hasn't won since taking the job in the next 2 weeks is with that of a freeway touchy work on the game so he recovering irrecoverably but the recovery. Is still a test and I'm loving every minute of it but to finish some tennis Andy Murray says he needs to be careful not to overdo it at the Davis Cup with the potential for Great Britain to play 5 times in as many days he hasn't ruled out doubles as well as singles but it's it would be ideal for him after his hip surgery if I was playing doubles you know the same day as some of those singles passion and 2 up I would have you know really struggled the following day so you know we just need to be mindful of that and think a little bit like kind of long term and not just looking at the 1st. Could potentially 5 days and do well I think that's what the British team get started this morning against the Netherlands from 10 am you can hear that on b.b.c. Radio 5 Live Sports Extra on digital radio 94.9 f.m. Band on b.b.c. Sounds this is London the b.b.c. Radio London goodness of shelves. Was. Back to the program loving listener at 735 on Wednesday the 20th of November a very warm welcome to you a leading child poverty charity has told b.b.c. Radio London the plight of children is being ignored in this election and it's going on the political parties to produce a Children's Manifesto the child to trust says 700000 children and living in poverty here in the capital and the some children inconsistences like Kensington living in squalor in the richest part of London where Peter in Kensington in our election coverage today because it's the most marginal seat in the entire country there would just 20 votes in it last time current leading comment is evident codes for labor political reporters is on them and don'ts of joins me live in the studio Hi Suzanne I wanted so last night's leaders' debate I mean obviously it was to be expected that the right wing papers would say Boris Johnson slammed it left wing papers would say it was a definite victory Jeremy Corbyn others of the papers all treading a more moderate line in saying that quantity couldn't really call it was pretty much an even match between the 2 and what was your take on it I think that's right it was poorly you know you need a match they both supposed focused on the things that can benefit them in terms of painting to the voters but actually awful when Jeremy Cooper was talking about the n.h.s. Selloff and he brought out these documents which are redacted where he talks about how it says something about Full us market access to an h s products and why is it redacted all of that kind of if you are somebody who's out there thinking Well I'm not sure if I can trust Boris Johnson in the n.h.s. That plays into that kind of sense of of the lack of it I mean people will question your use of the phrase n.h.s. Selloff because there is no n.h.s. And it also is that there is none so if you to say that on the radio makes it sound as if it exists but the Tories are adamant there will be no sell off there's not going to be one there isn't one and there's nothing to talk about I'm not what I was going to come to is that Boris Johnson was very clear that there are you know there's no plan to sell anything off but this is about trust and trust was an issue that was raised actually in the debate yesterday it's about who. You ever not you trust the messages that you or your that are being played out so yes and I think for Jeremy Corbyn that issue of the n.h.s. When we look at polls and what have you and the n.h.s. Actually comes above bricks as being things people are interested so I think that's something that plays to that voter base but then on the other side you had Boris Johnson doing quite well on challenging Jeremy Corbin on what is your position on BRICs you say you'd have a referendum but you don't say whether or not you'd back remain or back your own deal and that's something that again I think in those northern a middle and labor market labor see where people have voted to leave the European Union is something that would play against him so I think both of them got those those killer blows in I suppose but you know it's very much about n.h.s. And breaks and one thing that struck me actually yes people laughed at them a lot that both of them yes that was very clear Laura could see that as well though they wouldn't see it appeared to take either of them very soon as it is the thing and one of these men is supposed to become the prime minister will be the prime minister after that half of the summer and you've got the audience laughing at Boris Johnson when he says he can do a trade deal by the end of December 2020 and laughing at Jeremy Corbett when he talks about his BRICs it plan for a negotiation say you kind of thing actually do they really take them seriously and I think sort of that and terms of the audience last night seem to be no but you may say that's just a lot of cool progression from the old days when we used to doff our caps and be deferential to seem to be in or Thorazine you may say something like the M.P.'s expenses scandal and all the various can commission is saying hey there's only one of you I mean that we're just like yeah right Plus we've been told a whole lot of stuff that's never really happened Kensington we're focusing on today we're focusing on it because as we've said it's the most marginal seats in the entire country 20 votes in it and I know that you've been you've been investigating for us channel property yeah on Kensington as you say the most marginal seat not just in London but in the whole country and an interesting one you're speaking to the Kansas today because we've got. Labor are in the lead. Asked you would expect the conservatives to be the only other contenders but then we got the Liberal Democrats all say in in the mix and so it's it is quite interesting constituency and we had the European election results where the Liberal Democrats came 1st bricks came 2nd which kind of froze that all into uncertainty as to what happens over not the Lib Dems take votes from the Tories or from labor and we're not sure I've been talking to a children's charity because child poverty is one of those issues that is not really spoken about a great deal in this election and that was speaking see the childhood trust which is basically saying that politicians in this election should be focusing on this and I went to Kensington because of course it's a place that has massive disparities in terms of wealth and spokespeople there about what they feel I'm Lords get is the chief executive of the child a trust which is London's child poverty charity brought children on porters and children by and large are invisible London is the most of the richest city in the United Kingdom so one of the richest cities in the world but it also has the highest level of top poverty in the United Kingdom some 37 percent of children that's 700000 children across the capital 4 in 10 or less. And here in Kensington and Chelsea we see children literally living in squalor looking out their windows at 678910 1000000 pound houses and knowing full well that they'll never ever get to live in the house just like that and you know I think that this election really that we all parties need to have a Children's Manifesto they need to say how they're going to help children are going to help the poorest children time William Robertson the director of the venture center the children that come to us here are often ones that live in flats they haven't got outside space they haven't got recourse to go on trips and activities and holidays themselves and we can perform that role for them now we're in an election campaign at the moment and we hear a lot about Bret's it we hear. About the n.h.s. We don't hear a lot about child poverty what do you think that is I think it's a hidden issue I think it's something that we've got used to in London we've got used to income disparity we've got used to the fact that you know there are the very wealthy and there are all the others but you both have an a check Ok you're going to crack it try let's get them to show inside of your phone of my 1st name is to Lisi and I'm 10. December if he didn't come. In and doing anything. And the deal is back to tease and I'm talk about the elections because I'm a political reporter some ponding out what people think about it I think they should give mums who have kids more money because they struggle sometimes minus 10 if someone doesn't know how to do a sport they should make it less expensive. And I'm Ok here's what I would want them to is. Iran and then my news almost everybody face everybody my 1st name is Bo and I'm 10 years old give the kids well I don't side so I can do I want and swim all the time in the end he suites and it sounds like a glorious place to live I think if you're a child and make silently cakes and carrot cake and rightly so and make it right. Love your kids I mean we were fabulous children so this is not a let me just ask you one more thing the papers and I don't know whether it's a turn or channel what's going on but the jokes wind functor you know she has said I'm your new leader I'm going to be that I'm going to be the next and also image I'm missing into all sorts of different papers and different column is part me sort of piping up I'm sure you've seen is and they're asking questions like why is Joe Swinton so annoying why don't we like or oh god no one can stand that kind of thing suddenly I've noticed erupting you know what she's doing is she doing something wrong I think. I don't know they're necessary if she's doing something wrong I mean I suppose it's important if your wanting to get votes to have aspirations you know tell people but you know voting for us is not a wasted vote I mean that you know I can see it from that point I think the problem is you know liberal Democrats where are they they've got what is it 19 seats the car they had at the at the end of play but actually those were a lot of those were switchers So I think they had 12 at the last election so to go from 12 to 300 odd which is what you'd need to fix 326 to have a majority that's a massive departure really from where they are now so it's about I suppose what's realistic so I think that's probably why there's that kind of push back I mean in terms of the debate yesterday obviously we had the 2 leaders on there was quite a lot of Kfar for really about the others not getting on oh yeah the s.n.p. And the Lib Dems took it to court and lost they then had their own individual interviews afterwards but obviously not having that seat at the table makes a massive difference because if you think back to 2010 where we had the leaders debates you had Nick Clegg has a table or so he was there on the stage and when you've got that platform that gives you a better chance of getting those votes as a general election which is what we saw on that occasion thank you very much in the system and under There are political reporter and lovely listener will be straight back with you with a paper of you. The 3 at the moment looking very busy northbound there's a collision just before the m 25 votes which means the votes down to a single lane and traffic queuing from their junctions for light water the m 25 itself looking very busy this morning approaching junction 16 at the m 40 clockwise is slow from around junction 15 the m 4 anticlockwise is slow for a couple of miles on the approach as well anticlockwise the m 253027 the m 11 round to choose towards junction 25 at Enfield after a couple of problems early on the a 13 looking incredibly slow coming into town this morning after some issues as. This is the budget to like a good God So all in good to be honest but. This is the land and the culture is so great that we are welcomed with such open arms so uniquely London and I think I am b.b.c. Radio. Listener Time now for a pay per view we're joined by Emily Cherry from Peace One Day Hi Emily nice to see you again morning I your 1st choice of story keep working exclamation mark pension age should rise to 70 this is the Daily Mail say forget early retirement we should be working to was 70 it's game day this is because we're not expected to live well into our eighty's and this is from the Office of National Statistics is that climbing 7 c. Every c. $1665.00 an hour 70 would you think yes I mean I think what's interesting about this report is right at the end they start talking about pressure on adult social care pressure on mental health services pressure on the n.h.s. And there's no guarantee that a healthy working life population a healthy working nights or in life will actually reduce demand on a service is I think this is an area that government needs to invest in more research in thinking about him we expect in the next parliament there will be a Green Paper on kind of social care but when I sort of read this I mean 1st of all as an individual you go oh crumbs so many more years ago I got a laugh working on can I keep. This place out yeah particularly around it but then you also pivot to thinking about things like grand parent child care you know I couldn't type as a working mom without the help of grandparents my parents have got my kids this morning right example right and there is evidence that says actually it also helps them to be a man helps them live longer healthier lives looking after grandchildren so you know what you want to think that if you go off to have a lovely day swirling around well even with your parents it's good for the parents yeah right definitely yeah. So so I mean the I suppose the question is Is this a notion or is this something that pretty soon will be obligatory and we really will expect what to with 70 and that often means die in the saddle it means you know you don't you don't get to have any time at all growing prized marrows and looking at the horizon think he had nice it isn't this a good job but you just work and die and that's it yes I think the logic of it and trying to sort of put is in a year if you live longer if you will have longer to do those things but you know our bodies are not necessarily going to keep up physically with the ability to you know to work ourselves literally to the buying sometimes is kind of what it feels so watch out for what she does and I wonder whether some of the political parties should be embracing this is an issue you know that they that might be a real issue influential on your next choice I mean this is such an horrible story that actually I was wondering whether we would refer to it at all on the program but I'm glad that you have brought it up it's in the garden it's in all the other papers too and it's the police chief convicted of having child sexual abuse video on the phone and this is a police chief Robyn Williams a Metropolitan Police superintendent who's been on trial for 3 weeks of these claims which she did deny but she she was found guilty she was found guilty yesterday in court and you know when you look at this story on the face of it you think this is a police chief this is someone who should know better than you know the law and should know that if anyone sends you an image in this way you absolutely have to report saying you know the reason I picked this story is not necessarily to focus on her having that kind of individual side of it but I'm backing the Internet watch foundations campaign right now what is in this report is 2 different ports that I picked one is in the Guardian. One is in the mail the Guardian talks about child sexual abuse videos the male refers to as child pornography there is no such thing as child pornography and the I w. S. Campaign is very much about focusing on getting people in editorial and journalists to stop talking because any child is not the kind of videos being abused and that that has nothing else to say about that if you're filmed a child doing that that is child abuse that's all no such thing as top on or with no such not incidentally this incident this police chief met because that's us it's London so she's you know she's she's she's a local person was sent this image apparently by her sister is that right it is so I want or she to have done straight away the moment that that are image arrived and I also from the reporting this that the sister is a social worker so you know this is a really grave that these are you know bad decisions made by individuals and professionals who should know better yes so that should have been reported there are various ways that they could have done that they could have gone straight to police themselves and they should have done that could have gone to the Internet what translation who work with industry to identify victims and get those images taken down and then get support out to victims or of course they could have just gone for general advice to something like the n.s.a. P.c.c. I think one of the points of this case that needs to be me well needs to be made clear is that none of the people sending or distributing this had a sexual interest in it they're not paedophiles not it's just the man who sent it to the sister which is the sister's husband was standing it's a isn't supporting and then the sister was sending it to her sister and the police to say is this appalling not to say we are sharing this image which we find erotic that was not it so then not paedophiles bought Nevertheless what they did was illegal and was a crime you're not allowed to distribute because even if you're doing it say Isn't it awful Yeah but you should kind of know that you should know about and that's why it's this case is shocking there are professionals in this case the social worker police chief if there's public out there who have ever been sent something and I do not know it to anyone to say isn't this appalling or do not and I'm going to put it to authority Yeah and you can get how you gave me both the male. And the Guardian on that to show the man wrongly used the phrase child pornography which doesn't exist it's all child abuse right your next choice a story this is a very sad little story this morning it really is it's in the sun it's in all the papers too I've seen it many times and each time I started I thought this is just awful and the headline is kids secret hell half a 1000000 worry children suffer in silence almost all the 1000000 youngsters with worries about their feelings or behavior suffer in silence and this is according to the Children's Society So it's a new report by the children society this survey to just over 2000 children and then looked at the results and you know although it's good that 58 percent of them saying yes we would seek help from family from friends from school teachers you know 42 percent of children are still suffering in silence still suffering that stigma and still shows even with all the big mental health campaigns that we've had with backing from the royals with. Government in this area children a still not feeling confident enough to come forward and get help why not because they think they won't be believed or they think they'll be derided people will will just take the rabbit out of them I want what's going on and I think there's definitely a whole range of issues where children might come forward it can often be fear that stigma it can often be fear of what might happen as a result or they'll be labeled in some way that it will change them it can it can also just be you know generally not understanding and not being able to process them and i do we know the sorts of things that they're worried about when it says half a 1000000 worried children suffer in silence you know the things that are concerning and one reason so if you look at something like reports like Child Line had there are new reports out recently I'm just a few weeks ago really worryingly this year the number one kind of thing that children according to Old Lyme about was around charts actually exploitation and abuse and what we're seeing online but you know bullying exam pressure family pressures all these things have existed for decades but children are increasingly becoming more anxious and worried about their day to day life and wonder why why do you think that is so I think there is an element of social media in kind of impacts and comparing yourself and that since then I guess the next topic really doesn't it which is in the Times today and that is. 3 quel Listen to this carefully love to listen as you will you I think you'll be horrified 3 quarters of children under the age of 5 have Internet access 3 quarters you know of course not a tiny percentage 3 quarters of children under 5 have Internet access more than 3 quarters of British children under 5 have access to at least one device connected to the Internet from less than a quarter 10 years ago this is a 70 by Child Wise 76 percent of preschool children I can't believe this use technology including tablets small things pieces or laptops compared to just 23 percent in 2000 and I get why is this a big deal so I think it I think it is it being a good day when we're not going to say that having having internet access and going online is necessarily all bad there are definitely some wonderful opportunities for children to grow develop and explore online but I think I looked at this and said By the age of 3 children prefer to watch t.v. On a tablet say where you know it's hiding away from you know their c. Beebies in the as a teacher kind of watching age appropriate really great content curated and developed and and watch things on tablets you know why do they pick because they're imitating parents and so that's what they've seen because there's so little is that why why do they like it there's certainly an aspect aspect to it you know devices have become the choice for parents and everyone kind of in the family home it is that freedom in that choice and creativity and being able to do that yourselves but I think there's also a way she's here in making sure that you know there's nothing necessarily wrong with an under 5 having a tablet but having the right levels of controls of parents who controls on less of the not accessing in a print way about a lot of times of the World Health Organization says about screen time and children and how really you know that until they're What is it 3 they should have any it to all it's really nailed non When we did that on the show all these people kept ringing enough listeners charming people saying oh well but you know my really loves you know a few hours of Sesame Street no way there's nothing wrong at all with what I said but none is what it says Neal no script oh no but they were they really do calm down and chill out in front of this thing and that thing and the other thing is if you were really one knot. I take that advice or they just didn't like it didn't tally with the way people decided to live a tool and I think the World Health Organizations advice you know is really good and what it starts to too is to talk to parents about having those boundaries having limits and being able to set good role models as well the behaviors in the family home around it so it is in poor people find it very very hard it's very to switch off their own devices when they're with their children very very old a they don't they they don't want to be they don't see why they should and if they give a child a device a child busy with their device they're busy with their device and it was you might say happy everyone's content and happy and quiet and absorbed Why would you set that up so you know that definitely is open to good positive opportunities for children but it has to be age appropriate has to be time limited and it has to be done kind of safely say you know something for parents to really be thinking about and you've also chosen this story this is schools lessening giving a teaches embrace the spirit of Christmas by asking parents to give to that community rather than showered with gifts she sent a letter home with children to take the pressure off parents to buy presents for school stuff on the last day of I just thought this was a really lovely story you know I know particularly from thinking about families who live in poverty the pressure to keep up and give presents to teachers I'm married to a teacher he showered every Christmas is a huge amounts of presents and every year he comes home feeling guilty he you know he's very respectful and very grateful for everything that happens but it makes him feel really guilty so what does he feel guilty because he thinks it cost too much money they can't afford it yeah yeah yeah there's that kind of potential and the gifts that he will value and I think this this had teachers saying the same is you know is the homemade things it's the letters from a child that says thank you for giving me confidence but I am also I was clearing out my my younger daughter's recently been married 3 years I was going to clear out yesterday and I noticed that she had kept cards and letters from people saying thank you very much and stuff like that they were in the drawer and I thought I'd get rid of my thought well no it's not for me to see they mean a lot to her so I can tell you not just being sentimental in slushie but it actually is true to say would you say all the school should follow suit and just say you know I think this is a lovely idea I think it's a. If the schools take pressure off parents and really kind of reach out and say We understand that working families is difficult for you right now so we don't need gifts we just need to know that with values teachers and lovelessness who remember the n.s.p. C.c. And all 100 percent sure Emily what Peace One Day is just just just tell us what you do these days so Peace One Day was founded 20 years ago by Jeremy Gilley he's an actor and filmmaker and in 2001 he persuaded the un to adopt around the world the 21st of September is the annual Day of Peace and Nonviolence So every country around the world focuses on the 21st of September on activities that stop violence reduce conflicts you know for example we've even worked to get in war zones people like the Taliban to not engage in activities on the day that a war making activities and allow World Health Organization in to immunize children in and across the globe we just see lots of things that music concerts and activities that people can get involved in that are about getting together enjoying time with your family and making peace on the day and there's a big concert coming up next year always on the 21st of September which people were able to watch on online on a piece on days you cheap and also on our Twitter we're very grateful to do for finding the time and to see as every Cherry from Piece one day you're listening to b.b.c. Radio London coming up from 10 this morning with Robert Elms he will be explaining why Teddy Boys and grandkids have more in common than you could possibly think of Americana singer grape Watkins performs live in session still to come on the breakfast so the 1st leaders' debate of this campaign was held last night did you watch it did you think there was a clear winner if you did which of the 2 did you think was the victor did the debate change your mind in any way to war where you entrenched in your opinion before and you remain in the same opinion now 087312000 we're asking when did you last visit the dentist scarcity of n.h.s. Dentist here in London and all of this will be coming out of the new songs right here on c c point and back to the b.b.c. Sounds. Is a long. This. Radio. Has been appointed as the new manager of Tottenham after. Last night the former Chelsea and Manchester United manager has signed a 3 and a half year contract the co-chair of the tunnel supporters cloak has told b.b.c. Radio London he isn't convinced he's the right man to replace him. But we need to sure some people. Won't be. It just seems most unlikely for. A teenager's been stabbed to death in East London b.b.c. Radio London's Greg McKenzie is in Ilford as the police were called here to full well ave at about 1020 last night's reports of a fight once they got here they discovered a 19 year old suffering from stab wounds he was sadly pronounced dead a short time later by the London Ambulance Service now over the road across the road from this building there's a burnt out car the police are also investigating whether that is linked to last night's murder Breck said has dominated the 1st leaders' t.v. Debate of this election Boris Johnson promised to end what he called this national misery Jeremy Corbyn said Labor would get breaks it sorted by giving people another referendum they also discussed the n.h.s. And the royal family the Green Party Sean Berry says climate change barely featured I actually can't believe that climate chaos was relegated to the quick fire rant in that debate that neither of those 2 man he wants to run the country brought up as part of their main point I mean this is the most important issue that we face alongside Praxair and yet it wasn't part of the debate to stop You Gov poll taken after the debate suggest people are evenly split on who won most Labor voters thought it was Jeremy Corbyn but it's conservatives those it was Boris Johnson during the debate the Conservative Party press office branded its Twitter account to look like a fact checking organization Twitter said any further attempts to mislead people would lead to decisive corrective action the Tories insist it was clear throughout that it was a conservative party accounts will Moyes from the independent fact checking charity for fact it was an attempt to mislead photos and I think it is inappropriate and misleading for a serious political party to behave that way and it's surprising as well why would a self respecting political party choose to impersonate something else to put its campaign messages out there the Liberal Democrats are making a big push on. Cation pledges ahead of their manifesto launch later they say they'll spend an extra $10000000000.00 pounds a year on schools by 2025 later Moran is a Lib Dems candidate and the party spokesperson for education it's also about how do we create a world class education system and that needs to be about valuing our teachers we would recruit and retain $20000.00 more teachers by making sure for.
