Place What why did you become a cop or what why why why Pilo What was it about that that meant that you thought that that was a career for you I was very lucky in that when I was at school I went to a careers fair and I spoke to some police officers there and I knew then that that was what I wanted to do I can't explain why but I knew that was my job I was in the 6th form I knew I wanted to go to university in study languages I like speaking German so I did that and then I only applied for one job when I finished uni I applied for the Met and I lived I grew up in Ottoman star in the London Borough of hay varying and I was accepted and that was 30 years ago and I've been so lucky that I chose the right career for me and I've have had and am having a wonderful varied very satisfying career yet these years and I think it's very very very much Bob I know it's not a no 30 years is significant for us because it's when we can retire and take our pension but many people choose to work on beyond that and I'm certainly not ready to. There were around 10 percent of officers when I joined were female and now it's it's a part of. 2. In t 5 percent it's still not enough it's still not representative of London but it's it's very different the culture is different and we are much more open and I think the other main difference is that every role now can be done by a woman as well as by a man and you know we have a female commissioner. Who sets the tone of leadership for us and there are role models that every level and in every department in the metropolitan give a lot of questions for you and I have a little time but what was it like being a firearms cop as a woman when you did it was that different do you think to now. I think it was different in that there weren't so many of us. There are still not enough female pharms officers and protection officers but when I did it there were 3 of us on the department in Special Branch and I had a great role model called Rosemarie who was a a sergeant and I I saw how she did the job I saw that she could do it and I was inspired by her so I think it's it's different now and in that it's much more common for women to take all sorts of different jobs specialisms.
