Phil Collins in the economy 5 minutes past the songs out we can around the corner and this is from Nicole who says Joe I traveled from Vegas 3 telephone calls a loss a day I nearly died from the heat I went there for an event that you would have liked I actually needed painted yoga. Taken Every We will pay she was in it we were painted in fluorescent paint it was an artist in the studio with me who's smoking at this light slow obviously before doing a wonderful yoga session naked in in florescent paint good anyway the station was OK but I thought the actual area was a bit grim I'm in north London girl at heart we're talking about the old carriage they're using old stock from the seventy's and yes it is it is very old it's very noisy it's very halt it's very brown but I actually really liked it Keith in what it says Joe if you don't want it will screech on the Bakerloo never travel out to Acton on the Central Line thank you the human shell was saying exactly the same thing it is really really noisy now then the River Thames far more sedate it has to be said that it is the lifeblood really of great city and it is being described as liquid history and it's why we're living here I think is it is it truly is it's an I was saying that when I was a student. We hardly have a sort because we with the bid and we didn't they didn't open they didn't celebrate it was surrounded by warehouses that we know who you know River poles or anything else so it is wonderful for my generation to say let's celebrate the Thames it's being collaborated and the river has been explored in a residency now at the recent time which is space Well Kate Lowe is one of the artists taking poems and Matthew hopefully Smith is the curator and the art advisor of the whole project and I am so pleased to say they both join me here in the studio Hello hello hello right so 1st of all Matthew just tell me about the whole exhibition before we speak to Kate what this is the recent series it's a holistic approach to the well being clue thing with diet and you know naked yoga Well more yet but you know there are also you know if we don't fit that into the gender somewhere but if I get to do the auditions I like but yes it's a really heavy stick approach to that and not as a solve for the soul sits very much the center of that has to get to pretty I have never been there so what about says it right on the river right by the River Cafe a 10 minute walk from Hammersmith to opposite the old Harrods furniture Oh my God somebody only just told us that last week that the Howards furniture store that's where they used to store less stuff they are a puppy done now but is it still called The Old how it was if you can't you can't avoid knowing it's not because it's got it in big writing it off the top of the building so what I do believe that it's still the how it's still how I think it's like luxury condo surprise surprise you have nothing it's actually ISN'T IT OH MY GOD or said people are living in the old Harrods vanishes still so just the recent how long been this How long's it been going was probably better for me to not question ever to cater I need recently become involved and open the show last night and did a lot of talk about about how important that. Function of the reason to raise within the primary all context but in terms of its history I think Kate's point better position to answer that question yeah I mean I've been on board for just over a year and it officially opened about 6 months before I joined it was a it was quite a long project getting it up and up and sort of refurbished and it's a really really beautiful space with lots of. Sort of purpose built rooms for sort of rest relaxation and creativity there's a really terrific vegetarian cafe which has a lovely view of the river very sunny and open and it's it's funny I feel sort of calming just walking you know as you sow so deftly coming this way I think the a water is always wonderful isn't it anyway just add something else tell me about your work as a military. Well I am primarily a painter and I finished an M.A. At the Chelsea College of Art about a year ago so the residency has been a great way to sort of relaunch myself back into full time art practice and I work across quite a few different sort of medium I mean I'm sort of classically trained but I do work with a lot of mixed media so a lot of collage and different substances I also do a bit of installation I've done some neon work even so yeah some people that might say I'm unfocused I prefer to think of myself as a bit of a polymath but you also teach that you know I do I do yeah well I do I teach but on a very low level I actually work with refugee populations and have I actually ran some artwork shops in the callee refugee camps about 34 years ago 3 years ago so completely volunteer sort of based Yeah set ourselves up here yeah to get back to this the theme the constant theme is the rhythm obviously that's what everyone is working that's the common denominator throughout so anyone hopefully people will go and see this for themselves but what are some of the exhibits that you've found really exciting. Well Matthew probably can talk a little bit more about this just you know because he's had a lot while he's had the luxury of also coming in at the end which sometimes gives you a bit more perspective I mean we have a very diverse group of artists we have a printmaker a sculptor several painters contemporary photographer. We have 2 or 3 poets amongst us and a wonderful textile maker and Weaver who is trained in India and it's also a very diverse group from an international perspective we've got somebody from France some to from Belgium to Canadians and India and so yes but maybe Matthew would talk a little bit about what he thinks of the group of work in the show I think I think it's interesting whenever you set a theme for. An exhibition or not activity it gives by. both control and and and some sort of constriction but frankly artis can think of many different ways to interpreter a single theme or in the static and what's interesting here is that you know artis well use different methods methodology materials concepts that bring together that that the day that are necessarily o.p.'s the not necessarily instantly legible in terms of the theme but once wants proper conjecture is is on the taken a new look at new thing can you learn venue saw to see where these things come together but every different artists will have a different viewpoint is an the to bill is that's all makes them artists on the right of us not ot s. Is that they will look at the monday in the look at something that we see as monday in ordinary and they'll sit in an entirely different way that's what makes them artists is a to them is that right that's right yep and so the look hasn't been produce that if it that's been brought a you had it hasn't being create know it has been happening then we know is somewhat used to be center is always not just this is not just an exhibition is also not is residency and it's a supported studio space activity so it's understanding that it's very difficult for autism urging artist or even mid career artists in a current environment to find yeah support an platform for their practice and to develop what they're doing and their language so resent or is not just an exhibition space it's also an artist to g.a.o. Space and what where we're doing is are hoping to develop that into not just assisted studio space for aught as but also to bring professional help into their lives as well curatorial assistance in guidance commercial assistance and guidance of how to develop a practice to give themselves lease half a chance of building a sustainable project is will do that how do they do it where's what i do for a living so i are you it's it's difficult is not easy because you know the amount of connection in gauge up with anything that sits on the on the go on the critical acclaim spectrum that could be termed academic fire in ours which is a huge spectrum from top to bottom but it's people engaging with that is you know it It's fairly small section of society and it's what we that to do is to encourage people to believe that art is for all but all you need to do is to look into it with your mind and you find there's a whole existence which come can take you to another place entirely the all the exhibits to sale and yet at the end credits but it's so. Obviously they remain with a on till the end of the exhibition and then if you like them you know you can buy them and Reserve that's correct deserve them. Who will be battling do you think I mean I haven't seen I haven't seen the work but will it be corporate boy or will it be individuals will it be Londoners do you think you are in love with the river who just want a piece of it well I think we're keen re center to develop a platform which operates sort of raw to different levels both local national and you know eventually international. People by all for a variety of different reasons sometimes there's a need there's a space as a gap on a wall and sometimes people take it to another level when they could be termed collectors who are feeding a habit to feeding an academic kick that they enjoy and it's not about buying all for need is about buying up because you know it's taking your brain and your soul to a different place which is why it's so well in the in the atmosphere reasonably hote takes your brain you'll sold to a different place that's the talent of the alter his name is Roy So let's give everyone the details if they want to go on really want to go I mean is it the yoga as well yeah the yoga Haas are terrific Actually there's a full yoga schedule and I think the one of the nice things actually is the artist in the residency get the benefit of. Going to yoga so in addition to eating delicious vegetarian food on a regular basis we also we also come out very blissed out after so I cannot believe this is not on my radar it is then now opposite the Howard's furniture store but you say how much myth is the nearest station how much is news to see other side of the river sort of go to the go to the younger I'd be your dad to pull the stereo good so you go down low M L Would it be down the M L That way it's about it's north of there are things north north of the mouth OK but let me literally if you just head towards the River Cafe and the whole I'm Thames Ward Thames Wharf is that how much of that there are about the landmark and it's going to be running it and yesterday it's going to be running until the 12th of September that's the exhibition but you can go to very recent to any time basically open daily from 830 to Stu to 6 I believe and even want to look at the. Good timetable Yes Is it online it's online and can you just pay a drop in or do you need to you can come drop in I'm going to. Be there when you arrive Joey you must ask for Kate and. I do actually. Well I do variety but I'm going to the in class on Sunday morning. How important Yeah you should be doing you know you can tell them. Oh no it's all just saying or to say the end of a long week. Is a strong medicine I've really enjoyed meeting you both so the temp. Is what we're calling it to me Sister me says thank you that is a wrong way to but it's OK don't worry to me sis which is the exhibition we've been talking about is on at the recent which is the Thames wharf and it runs until the 12th of September go to Reese and to their website to find out all the details I'm so pleased to say that we've been talking to Matthew Smith who is the old advisor and curator and the artist herself thank you so much for coming in pleasure thank you for having me on the mat as they say. The end of the book. I just been gossiping with I guess I'm going to go along as they were saying that when you do yoga you're looking out the river which for visualization for doing balancing poses like trade etc is absolutely wonderful So yes we're always talking about rel we're talking about traveling to the Elephant and Castle we're talking about the station itself we're talking about our relationship with our bodies this is a Texas comes through from. Oh I read the out Actually this is about painting your body with fluorescent paint walls doing naked yoga strange but there is something for everyone here in this city isn't there right let me just read out some of the e-mails that we've. Can tell you what's on the show on Monday we're going to hear the true story of a Jewish woman who joined the circus to avoid the Nazi concentration camps we're also going to be talking to Allison Cole who's going to be talking about cozy London spaces as the night straw. And the American right Elim would balk on his latest thriller The elevator pitch is going to be questioning whether you will ever take a lift again I don't think there's anyone alive who doesn't get in a lift and just you just I don't know this I always think but I do the ones in my block are always breaking and I know like the caretaker's Benaud away on holiday if I rang that bell no one would come and help me and I often think when I'm in it with Matilda her breathing is so bad she'd behalf in a puff and I'd be and then I often think of Charlie Modern Millie when you tap dance in lifts and those zigzag gates which I think are really dangerous also Emma Cashmore is going to be here now she runs a travel agency employing new mums it's. She is now how many people use travel agents I think the fact that she has survived is extraordinary so this is an old female travel agency that has been going for quite a few years at a time when people book online so yeah I want to say quotes and what all her. Windows days and all of that and yeah so that's on Monday of course from $130.00 this is Katy Perry. You start to go back. But I don't want to. Cross my heart I want. To know what. To do. To. Is Found Carol's he a rival of the one. For madness and I 35 November date they take over this at we did a couple of years ago they take over one of these buttons can't I mean the whole camp 7000 people. I think is my head I think. You get Yeah you get a foot Bristol and you drive for 2 hours that's why I know and so so we go down there and the 1st year we did it was what I mean literally people dressed as lamb personally pulps It's a bird we're really and we care where people just express themselves in a way that you know I don't see a fit he's hysterical a madness of A as well they they play and they're walking around and everybody's dressed up and every is pretty and I've never heard about this but I mean I've been as a corporate gig with that they nat and they all the great has fun ever they get everything you want to bed every night you can just very noisy there are no more people. Still think of them performing on the roof of Buckingham Palace I mean just craziness that what about doing today well as well as politics because because I must say that because we are an extraordinary. Ames as you know the death of Robert Mugabe you know it more whole life I think there are very few people who polarize. Like Robert mug I mean I suppose Margaret Thatcher did to some extent you know Brixton they were like Ding dong the witch is dead while other people thought you know she was the greatest leader of the 20th century you know clued in church you so we have this here now here's a guy freedom fighter 6 degrees minority white rule was reduced 180 they got their independence new P.F. With a guy who just threw in coma and then steadily he became something else and that's how the world sees him and I daresay people in Africa or people of color don't see that they see you know they talk about the country being you know in a horrible state now and people are really suffering for people of color and a minority white rule they suffered so I'm really interesting is as only steely as possible exploring the the myth the tale the legend that their sport it's pretty pending and where you stand Rochelle interesting I heard someone on the right as morning saying I was tortured by him but I grieve for him and I was thinking My God what an extraordinary take place a journey I mean it's a journey and you see often you know you he get it out and you look at Gandhi and you hear about what Gandhi said you know Kaffirs means to immediately I no longer have any kind of feeling for Gandhi personally and care in church you could never be leader now because of his alcohol mental health challenges and yet he's for many people the greatest leader we've ever had so I think we want people to be perfect and they're not to think that retrospectively your thoughts Eddie thank you and revenge porn. Revenge Porn it is a thing I know it makes you feel uncomfortable I know you look around. It's a big thing and a lot of people particularly women are being hurt by and it's on our oh so you take you're in love with me we you know take a little picture of what we're doing that we break up and others plaster everywhere you go. It's am so glad I'm single I don't have the guys or any of this have but if you have Eddie gave me a look I think Eddie you can go in now on any of those subjects 87312000 he will be taking over for me can I thank my team Amy Fitzgibbon has been producing George Burton he's been assisting will be back on Monday one Have a great weekend his belly with the travel.
