Trade deals were today the prime minister will travel to Wales and Northern Ireland to try and win public support for her plan and Downing Street is confirmed she does want a T.V. Debate with Jeremy Corbyn who said to relish the idea but one of her former close allies has told the B.B.C. Hope Rex a deal is doomed and the worst of all worlds the ex Defense Secretary Michael Fallon says it may be in Britain's interest to delay leaving the E.U. So negotiators can agree a better deal but he doesn't believe getting rid of the prime minister would help the changing the leader actually is going to affect this I think if the government as a whole needs to see that this deal at the moment doesn't work for Britain she could possibly survive a major defeat with the likes of you saying that she's got a horribly wrong do each of us has to take that position when the vote comes on December the 11th I don't take that as the warmest indorsement of the brothers as you wish Michael Fallon speaking to the B.B.C.'s Nick Robinson the British Ph D. Radio London it's coming up to 6 minutes past 8. Inhabit the story give it a forum for conversation I maintain news is what I choose to shine light on. Is B.B.C. Radio London. Loveliness know very warm good morning to you if you've just joined us with thrilled to have you aboard the program at 6 minutes past 8 the 27th of November just a feeling well and most importantly talkative liquids just garrulous in the mood to chat because that's what we want this is a radio phone in so we'd love to hear from you 87312000 that is the number if to resume a thought that she was having difficulty over breaks it now Donald Trump has waded into the fray the prime minister faced a morning from M.P.'s in the Commons yesterday over her deal with the European Union and now the president of the United States is making it clear that if the agreement goes ahead it will be harder for America to trade with Britain this is what Donald Trump told reporters on the lawn of the White House as he prepared to board the president will play sounds like a great deal of the. I think we have to take a look at seriously whether or not the U.K. Is allowed to trade because you know right now if you look at the deal they may not be able to trade with us and that would be a good thing I don't think they meant that I don't think that the prime minister about that and hopefully he'll be able to do something about that doldrums intervention from the distaste mint from Downing Street saying the political declaration reach with the E.U. Was very clear the U.K. Will be able to sign trade agreements with other countries you came fact will be able to negotiate its own trade deals after we leave the E.U. In March next year but they can't be implemented until the end of the transition period yesterday the prime minister faced hostile questions from all sides of the Commons as he tried to get him piece to support the BRICS it plans to resume said she has negotiated the best possible deal this deal on as the result of the referendum while providing close economic and security relationship with our nearest neighbors and in so doing offers a brighter future for the British people outside of the E.U. And I can say to the house with absolute certainty that there is not a better deal available earlier on the program I spoke to Scott Lucas professor in American politics at the University of Birmingham last July when Donald Trump came to make you may remember that just before he came here through trees and I are the boss that was all and said he want your top negotiator with you implying that she wouldn't be quiescent Boris Johnson. Would be great prime minister now the reason why Trump said it at that point and the reason why he's repeated this is that the United States advisors behind him than what Peter Navarro would like the U.K. To come completely out of Iraq could nominate clik. Telling the visitor not a zit Bennett the Telegraph breaks the commissioning editor he's a good morning to you Gus You must be busy with that title at the moment good knowing well I guess things do take along some of the pay slips certainly did a festival I mean I'm not I'm not imagining me can crawl inside the presidential skull and work out precisely what he's about in plunging in in this manner but what is your take on his intervention yesterday Well I think clearly as your previous guest alluding to this comes from a desire for the U.S. And present Trump has to have a it is was a tremendous trade deal a full fat you know everything across the board ranging from agriculture has this is professional financial You name it The trouble is is that 3 is a choice from the very beginning to take goods basically off the table because she wants to keep agriculture and all that the interest of conforming to European standards so that therefore she can do things like happy hours border largely friction free without having to have checks at the border to check all the standards or a OK with a with the U.K. However that makes the quick then if she wants to open up the markets to U.K. U.S. Chicken meat you name it so as a result he's merely just lamenting the bombings of his his his suggestion the U.K. Wouldn't be allowed to trade is shows how comes to the his factual accuracy is because of not quite the case of course as Downing Street say the U.K. Would be as negotiate trade deals with the next March they are to sign them but it's simply that they would be ratified in other words legally coming into force. You know when the transactions when the U.K. Is fully as they tell us about to resume and whether what she's what she's displaying at the moment is admirable determination tenacity all the sort of qualities that we admire as staying power all that kind of stuff whether what she's beginning to say was a kind of delusional insanity. She continues beavering away at something that is ample pillar one would possible sides of the house but I think clearly she knows having been in the through fire and back in effect for this deal is the best I can come out of the process chamber and I can simply not stand because you know it's the easiest thing in the world to call to criticize and say I would have done better but you know if you really are to do eventually on a at all these red lines I mean unless you just gave everything you know clearly is something that treason May is trying to pile down for driving for a free movement ending sed policy where like the immigration was top of mind you know if she left party or not tried to Favorite Things like sovereignty European courts trying to break free from a bit more then fine but she's chosen what she's done and she has to sell that compromise the best she can The trouble is she's never on you know this idea of salesmanship we're going to have a the next 2 weeks I mean she's all natural sales person so it's you know the idea of a T.V. Today for example as well I mean yes we've seen him Cuse it so sort of he is just me repetitive it 7 to complete with I'm a celebrity and strictly in the Dr Who final for ratings I mean we were discussing this among the team here at B.B.C. And we we with wondering whether it was a wise thing to ease a major push for tele debate when actually Jeremy Cool Beans deliveries away surprisingly assured fluent Millett Lewis and seemingly sincere and has read both taken stilted and always agonizing the uncomfortable one you'd think that she would know that television is not really have friend yes and I think clearly she also knows there's a high risk profile political button which just drug rampant and such an encounter he would do anything but Brecht's if he would make it about austerity the Tories the evil cruelty Tories you know this is you know a bargain basement break cities attorney say just a soundbite for 90 minutes yet you know hey best little dates. Whereas I think also forget one thing you know what the are you know who you and I we are the wonderful people but we don't get to vote on the deal we can sort of the M.P. 630 S. She's the folks making that case to part about what has been suggested by our political correspondents is on him and B.B.C. Radio London the what she really needs to do is not so much welcome home and as walk on the pond the men tree parties the constituents in other words us to get off our M.P.'s because I don't know whether you would agree that taking the temperature of most of us there's a a rising irascibility in sort of federal desire just to get it over and done with almost any price people just sick to death of it anyway and so. There will be a mop his correspondence suggests some kind of some kind of method in waiting to pressure our M.P.'s to say For God's sake get on with it get on board and there is some sense I'm OK with both after the deal was agreed on by old and take a risk Morgan Pressel says for the stop waving a lot of the no confidence around and it was warm start on the sleeve a somber they would be consulting their constituents over the weekend and you know taking soundings and clearly the fact that we still have yet to reach the magic 48 what would conjure up a no call for that so there's a lot of you know that's just that some M.P.'s Um what's that be told by the constituents want to see you doing it all more that's why you are going about these things and I spoke to some Tory M.P.'s you know that Rex It is a public about there yet when they took their associations they still say oh no this is private No this is the sellout this is terrible and the sensation members who just say the stakes are the European Union right now we don't understand a couple external terrorists we don't call very all terrorists so this doesn't quite cut through with the same man of the people they think that the tell me your prediction say you think that parliament will roundly they to get Instead what next then. Other goddamn But you know given that she needs to have a majority of course seems you know about 6 or 12 need to break away but you know toast it feels like she's aiming for to have it rejected because of price which is the sad state of the simply that those get to take it out weeks afterwards you having done some cosmetic changes only at the end so all of the hope for them is that market reactions really ramp it down and say look we need to have things moving on the cover of this is all of the Apaches all involved in a short leg working ready for us a past 2nd time but just before Christmas so that could be quite a nail biter thank you very much indeed Bennett there the Telegraph breaks it editor and we'll be straight back with you after the travel. The conservative lady Trumpington has died at the age of $96.00 a year after she retired from the House of Lords during the 2nd World War and worked as a land girl and then a codebreaker Bletchley Park 7 years ago footage showing her making a V. Sign that a fellow Tory of what she saw as a rude remark about her age went viral online she was the most charismatic and might be somewhat techy rather irascible while hard to please somewhat domineering I could say character any day that because she came in once and I interviewed her that was in August 24th it was about her childhood when she published a book about her life I I came out of that interview somewhat bruised but on bad and here's just a little piece of it so tell us a bit about about your childhood 1st of all. It was very protective. I remember through. A penny from the top floor of 5 break I'm going to blaze. It Repton paper down to the ground for the muffin man who came by can you have and every night have you seen the muffin man who comes from down your way I can imagine it I've never seen my and it is me because he knew his eyes raised many D.L. And followed by the Benny wrapped in paper and then how they had it down the stairs not me but Inez. And bring him. And all those says again I mean people will know about the era when children well into the drawing room for maybe an hour every evening in their best no no no I have my. Archery which I think was barely normal in those days was lunch time ran the dining room table in my very best dress because it was made of all the scraps of set in my arms. And because. Hands with each of the Is and then out and then back in the oval clothes again. How did it take until your parents thought you were a puss and I mean till you were considered something that they might want to talk to a case and never never never. And you have. Isn't it with you to do you guys all of them but there it was when they popped in. Good night all dressed up. And when we were very small. We used to go into my father's dressing room. Poor Man and sing hymns to it Molly got dressed in the morning poor thing where we only knew things. To him every morning. And that was Baroness jumping to me who has died at the age of 96 a year after retiring from the House of Lords that's when I spoke to her about her childhood in August 24th teen now we have another story for you this morning and indeed I have to tell me guests in the studio Good morning ladies say Nice to see you long to those who are part of the windows generation being celebrated in a short film about their west London Community Center it is their lives and the work of the Nubian Life Center in Shepherd's Bush which was set up to get the aging African and Caribbean London is the film hopes to raise awareness of the gap in care services for different communities in the Capital One of the people the film follows is 85 year old Ruby Frances who attends the needy in life Day Center Ruby joins me here in the studio along with jazz Brown who's the chief executive at the center Welcome to you both so nice to see you thank you for coming thank you so Ruby Tell me about the film What's it what's it about the film why did you say about yet need be in life. Where they care for us it's a good place to go it's like my 2nd home well that's good it's everybody's friendly Yes I look forward to going there my sister goes there as well you know where she's not well unfortunately and what sort of things do you do while you're there what kind of atmosphere is it what's it like we do exercise we do a drawing we do a painting. Do also other things and did they ask you about you about your life story Ruby and when yes when you 1st came here and how old you were in that So yeah do you mind telling me a little bit about that how will we when you 1st arrived. 24 Yeah and you remember what you thought it was going to be like before you came you know I had no idea you had no idea but no idea what you looking forward to it yes I did what did you imagine it would be like before you got it. Well I wasn't imagining what it was like now when I came here and my cousin met me at Victoria Yeah I was on the coach and I thought My God what a let the prison they have he really thought it was all prisons Yes they do go to see the chimney Yeah you know smoke coming out of the chimney I thought. Oh dear and what about the weather when I came here and they said into summer so it was very cold but then afterwards it gets very cold and how was your life over to arrive would you do when you got here when I got a job in Lyons to shop on Yes yes so that must have been that she a nice atmosphere was it it was Yeah well yes and no oh really yes or no what were you doing. I work on the shop floor clear in tables serving tea and because I was a light skinned I could get a job on the shop floor a really yes otherwise I was not if I was just calling you should I have to go into kitchen downstairs are upset there by the kitchen is and did you find that the customers were were friendly and appreciative if you would know would do they seem to be how did they seem to be did they seem to treat you might ask you why you come here if you like it and I said No you said no that's And you know yeah why don't you go back and what was the answer to that you didn't like it I said I would go back. When I got what you people robbed by for appearance that's what you said yes I go back there but not before and yet you still here yes how come I go back and forth all the time right I see so my husband died 4 years ago so this is why I'm back here I'm sorry to hear that let me let me talk to your companion today and that is just branch of executive at the center Hello there and so so so tell me what life is like there and why it why you are the subject of this film life it may be in the early phase it's exciting it's additional to a case and so what we try to create yes is a Home From Home experience for anyone that comes through the door immediately they recognize sounds like recognize the stall they recognize the smell of the food that's cocaine and say particularly for older people with dementia that's just a comforting it's going to change with Ruby whether the food's any good or not how is the food is the food good at the Navy light is it is what you love what you like to eat that West Indian for you know I get that but what was your favorite dish that you get to eat that I guess I don't have any paper edition out was you know I did get older you will taste bad. Goals and forward a really has a lock taste as before is that right it also starts to taste the same Nothing tastes say because they can't vote with everything I see UK a heretic to tamper with which is no fault of the Nubian life of course no marrow so it doesn't taste the way you remember it takes now oh so we was not a fan of the cuisine particularly although she says it's partly because of our age I think it's more about the way the food is processed right right not not so much around how the catering team perfect prepare the food about how food generally has lost its natural Tice But apart from me apart from the food in the smell which is welcoming and familiar what else is going on and what is the film show about life that I think the film shows are really important aspect when we talk about the when trust generation it's all my supply approach and you know we don't get to look at the individual lawyers of what people have achieved and who they are yes and what the film does show us and kiss and insight into repeat slowly as well as a day care center and why it's important that this stage in life people can be an environment that I recognise and they feel safe and to me I mean it's quite clear to me why Ruby has been chosen as the star of this film this lake as he's using star quality and charisma of organ and said he won't take it out of nonsense from anyone including me I can see that but was it was it clear that Ruby was going to be cast in the lead role in Liz That must have been very glamorous as well of course it wasn't clearest So we got into a partnership associate community partners with Bush and we had done a performance there sunshine in this old body yet so all of our clients were involved and was really thought of this production repeat was part of what we're doing in the production Ruby of there's life in this old whatever it is yet what we're doing singing dealt. What was really doing in the US Yeah this is space Yeah sadly it was recollections Wasn't it you know into life something so terrible and talking about your balls yes yes yes and you did it so well that they decided if you seem to doubt it you stood out of a mile and what was it about what Ruby was saying that really got everybody the grip to say much I think it's just part of the story the Winchell story here doesn't get told in that scenes official know life right you know which is where about supplying kit you know the wind just Generation I like it when he was working at Love's gold house and they said you know why you had you like it she said no. She was going to say you were going to get good tips if you said that really you are going to say it was she was going to amend what she felt or what she was saying very anybody which is that was clearly at the table this yes Janko and said to me don't wipe the table my dirty black hands what did you say if I said I'm doing my job so he got up and walk away and he turned 14 every take I followed him then till he walk out and he thought would quite right too but grave if I did and I were courageous of you to do that you just say yeah I got you the soft they came here you know I wasn't enough but coming from. Green Park. To shop so I got on the number 9 boss gave the con doctress half a crown she shivered a ticket so she went on sorry not a customer saw said I'll be back and I have my change for you so what changed you gave me a penny when I did blood for it my head straight away and you have a penny to get you don't know your job. How can I give you a penny if I give you a penny back to me and said no we don't have a penny take it yeah so color T.V. . I say get someone to support and I think you teach about this morning so you wanted to find another one that led to work with me so what happened. Eventually they are to me off the bus driver came out to me happened bus not good not good enough did I get my change so I stopped at high power car and I got the inspector on autumn me off no I'm not getting off so this time I got up and I stood up on the bus. I said and what did you touch me this morning. I destroyed one because it's many but what under black and box. But I don't care I'm sick and I found myself did you get the money in the end no that would lead to a night's sleep. And they got everybody off the bus and got to a struct and policemen came on this time I was in a temper I was crying and they came out and it's time for that man just said shut up so I got up my seat and I stomped my back and I said you dare telling me to shut up give me time to explain myself. So I explained myself. To calm down and said You're just another mind that my boyfriend or my father did different color it's true absolutely Spoto and you can't do your hadn't cut mine and see what blood come out of you've got right and what I'm salute is all white blood red blood yeah. So. You and I said I don't know how I'm getting home I'm not in and out of here so they said Don't part of all of that. See me get home which they did. So the conductor is have to go in check the money at end of the day if the money is over I didn't I don't get it but I got on the bus before the bus move I said I know I did not get the money. But a lot of these think the tape is so money and buy soap. Watch that's what he said goes Ruby can see why Ruby is the star in this film is the car Thank you sir it was magnificent and you are magnificent thank you very much for coming in and now replaced by when she came in she looked very stern and she looked at me in very stern and I was slightly ways it was not smiling back but now she's laughing good so you really really really lovely to see you both thank you very much indeed for coming in that is Ruby Francis who attends the Navy life Day Center and also a jazz band chief executive and there is a film we will tell you how you can get to see it in a way you can watch in all that kind of thing later on in the show thank you very much indeed ladies for coming in and lovely list and we will be straight back with you after the news headlines. His right back in the U.K. Touching down is Heathrow this morning the good news is that he received a presidential pardon and his wife Daniella said all that matters really is that he's going to be home but officials in the U.A.E. Still insisted he was working for M I 6 David he spent 22 months in a Dubai prison following a fraud conviction in 2014 he wanted to remind everybody that Matthew had his ordeal might not yet be over it's not an acquittal he is still a convicted spy so he's going to have all sorts of issues for his life in terms of travel and going forward but also he was 6 months in solitary confinement so that's going to have a lasting you know I'm sure he saw many horrors in my case I spent 6 months in hospital when I came back Repairing broken bones and broken mine so that there's a lot for him to go through and we're joined on the program now by Rodney Dixon Q.C. He's the lawyer for Matthew hedges wife Danielle hollow Rodney. Well you hear there David Haye saying that although you have achieved a wonderful thing and so have our Foreign Office in getting Matthew home he's just touched down at Heathrow this isn't because he hasn't been acquitted. Try to read it it's not a. Conviction and sentence is based on no evidence of any substance to the foreign secretary has said to her correct and the sentence is not accepted and that should be reversed and it's wonderful news is that it's the most important thing but they are steps to be taken and how do you go about persuading a foreign regime especially one as NATO recently on will be is the U.A.E. To revoke a sentence in that they're doing the opposite thing on May They're insisting that they maintain their writ that said that he was spying and that they're not thinking of saying that he wasn't. Yes they're trying to cover their tracks not so appalling behavior. That kills him to say they could have evidence but we know that there is no such thing and that's going to be a challenge and it should be for our government and all governments to pressurise them to to do that so that they're not allowed to get away with it. How was it brought about the math he was 1st of all convicted and then released so quickly after having been kept in prison for 6 months why did it will move says almost at the end. Well I think it became clear to everyone including the resort is about had no basis to sentence him to life and they try to find a convenient way of backtracking on that enormous pressure was was put on them by many sources were most grateful to the Foreign Office for. And all of the support and media interest in the matter that all added to the title that came together at the right side and secured outstanding results and and was Matthew studying just for clarification you his wife's lawyer she said he was an academic not a spy what was he doing out there because we realize he was studying something and investigating was setting something pretty controversial. He was looking at security related not because of. The academics this. Was all that there was any connection with the government whatsoever I couldn't exclude him should be encouraged although. He was looking at the other debates look at never said anything controversial. First. That should be allowed to continue the university should take a strong stance against government to try and suppress the critter thank you very much for talking to us incorrect stations on his return Matthew's return to his wife and his family thank you we'll be straight back levee listener after the travel. Travel and that. In the travel just before 9. If you were in the. City. In one place that's what I'd like to. Break. Down. With. Those of you messages coming in very very warm response to our lovely lady Ruby from the Navy in life send part of the film that the premise tonight at the post and Rebecca says I'm driving on my way to work in this NG to the lady from newbie and said I cannot stop laughing everyone's thinking madwoman it is by far the best interview thank you Vanessa It wasn't me it was Ruby she was amazing she was really looking daggers at me when she arrived in the studio I don't know why she just looked so cross that I was trying to smile and charm her and beguile Harris to do so she wasn't having any of it and then she warmed up tremendously when she told her own stories which she really enjoyed and so did I And by the end she was read what a great storyteller with a lovely ladies. Great guest in the studio thank you for appreciating it say much this is from Katie who says morning when I say I love trees I'm really happy to say that there is a group in broccoli committed to planting trees over illusion there are so many high rise flats being built the plants just won't grow there's no some sign one of the schools has been surrounded by high rises in the playgrounds are dark and turned into a wind tunnel they tried to plant but nothing grows so many trees were taken down to these high rise flats so planting trees sounds like a good idea but if high rise buildings continue to be built a 34 story is found in the ocean which will block out more light the trees will not survive and it is so sad face says I did much to reason maize doget determination but not anymore I'm so nervous that M.P.'s will vote to rubber steel through just to keep things stable in the short term it's such a bad idea for the U.K. That's obvious since the E.U. Took about 20 minutes to agree it may has capitulated and is just weak as water such a shame for a wonderful nation and we will live to regret this for decades I fear we should either remain in the US a major player or lead cleanly with a managed heartbreaks it and put up with the short term pain either way we should have more faith in our wonderful country the rain in dollars Hell mourning the rain she says I think Donald Trump has waded in to deflect from the news today that General Motors is about to make thousands of Americans redundant his promise to bring American jobs to the people isn't quite going to plan I'm not a fan of to reason maybe I haven't heard of any the political naysayers stating what they would do better possibly because they have no clue and Dave says I'm guessing that like many of us Donald Trump is irked by the dictatorial arrogance of the E.U. Only offering us a poor deal just because trees made work so hard to bring us the booby prize doesn't mean we should just be humbly grateful frankly I think it's high time a few spawn is worth ruining that works even if it costs us more and then some to do it so those are some of your messages but let's move on to the story we're going to be talking about this often 9 o'clock it we talk about it because it's a surprise it flies in the face of received wisdom I would say I mean you can tell me I'm wrong but I would say that the way we've been taught. To try to behave at any rate in doing it but we've been taught to try to avoid rowing arguing shouting screaming throwing things and everything else in front of the children the phrase Pod DIVOLA zone phones what they say in France not in front of the children they say in England so often that we even had a T.V. Series I think starring WENDY CRAIK will not in front of the children and in Yiddish which is what my parents used to use because they thought we didn't understand what they were saying but we understood completely imperfectly clearly they would say Nish for the kinda look it means don't say it in front of the children should the children are in the room sure to particularly if they were arguing I think also talking about money maybe also talking about sex all the things that were meant to be suitable they would say Nish for the kid look and they would go and talk about it where we couldn't hear them as a child how did I feel about it tantalized and how I ended up being a talk show host I was desperate to know the secrets that I wasn't allowed to hear everything interesting it seemed to me went on behind closed doors I wished I could have had it but of course my parents are very lucky in how happy to say we're very happily married and barely ever all good so I didn't feel as if terrible arguments were taking place outside earshot but I believe that we were taught or we've all been trained to try not to argue in front of the children that's why I want to talk about today's story this is the headline in The Times today it may be better to have a raw in front of the children after all new research suggests it's better for children to see healthy conflict than watch their parents suppress their emotions let's talk to the child psychologist Emma Kenny about this how do Emma Good morning good morning would you agree that this isn't well we've been told up till now or at least what the general public I don't mean psychologists but you know the rest of us what we've been told to avoid doing I think on a cultural level and a social level probably over 45 yeah probably that was how the whole idea of parents keeping it together I mean certainly in my training and since then we are all about how expressing emotions in a healthy way but I think the test if you actually think of. The study it sounds a study is a little bit less about arguing from the children a little bit more about residual context of feeling so I honestly don't know what that means what is residual where I don't use it you'll come next to feeling what is that so so for example if you are playing with a child and you have to say yeah the residue of that is the transfer going to pick up the happy and you don't necessarily need to express it because you verbal cues in the way that you express yourself to that moment you would necessarily need to go I'm really happy it's kind of an automatic residue that kind of thoughts if you suppress your emotions and that's the big thing here here talking about suppression if you suppress them a child is very very quick much as many animals are thinking or stress for example that's a very clear resit you and you know how is your concern really with your parents that are you feel that you will continue friends about you feel that you don't need to been there just sense that there are lots of cues around the very very powerful so when we talk about expressing in front of children I would say to parents who are listening to this like no don't ideally going through an argument in front of your child that's what we know is that very scary for children I think any parent knows that what we would say is if you do argue in front of your child express it to them ask you why in a very child centric way so if you argue with your children then you explain why you're hurt or why you're crying and it's not over the top it's much more contextual of course your child then has a healthy interpretation of that if you restrain a refrain you teach your child the bad emotions or ones that feel bad because no emotions but feel bad you should avoid and we don't do that that causes a whole host of issues that makes us you know eat things incorrectly drink things incorrectly take things incorrectly and that's because we're trying to find a way to manage your emotions so I don't think this study you saying Off you go let's just be really open but it is for example put it into context yes last year I lost my best friend she's my best friend a whole lot of kids are growing up with her now I did not withhold my grief but when I got upset I expressed why I let them be within it. And so I thought well if that makes. You know drunk why. They would have. Formulaic expression them to express themselves in a way that they can. But let's imagine let's imagine if you were in a relationship let's imagine that you are co-habiting or you're married and you're both the parents of these children so you share these children may your children where you are arguing let's say you're arguing about money let's say you're arguing about in-laws let's say you're arguing about the work life balance let's say you're arguing about Christmas and how much to spend and where to go and you know that the arguments don't really piling up around what's supposed Yes Esteve season tidings of comfort and joy but often turns out to be the most stressful season of the year when everybody thinks everyone else is living in a nice and things everybody not being entirely entirely happy and really then it's all you know it's a very difficult time of years have been a pressure begins to mount so let's imagine you are rallying let's say it's about money and family and a whole lot of other stuff what is the right way to conduct these rounds obviously they're going to keep on erupting maybe in the car maybe a walk over the over the meal maybe you know 1st thing in the morning when everybody's in a big rush and stress to get ready the rounds are bubbling under the surface there are you still supposed to try not to have them right in front of the kids or are you supposed to have them and then say to the kids look you know we do love each other but we're worried about money or we do love each other but we really hate your grandma or we don't go there for Christmas or what do you meant to do I think you meant. How it feels to you unless projects at once your child or another person because it's always about you is the way you handle cope that is your subjective experience I don't think that anybody really listening would expect that it's healthy to scream and shout your partner in front of a child about money because the child hasn't got any control over that doesn't really go to any control over anything that's something I remember most vividly about childhood that everything's happening and you can influence anything I remember that full feeling. Right right and you also remember that one of the issues with that feeling was that your parents very clear about not including so therefore you didn't have any control because the thing about control is that yes of course children can't go and get a credit card sought out for you to finances or can speak your mother in law of course not but what they can do is understand the way you feel about it in a very centric way for the child so as a teenager my children have been spoken to about the way that I thought about my divorce they've been spoken to about the way that I feel about grief they've been spoken to in a way that says OK what's your feeling I've been spoken to about Rouse I rarely but very occasionally have with my now husband because what they say it is out of context we live in a peaceful household and as a route if I suppress that I'm giving them a very clear message which is I need you to be excluded from this because I don't necessarily have the money or it was be that for bad so instead I involve them and tell them why I was hurting and why he was hurt and also why we apologized because of the hate he wasn't necessarily the right behavior in doing that they kind of say firstly it's not always right when a parent acts that way Secondly when that white is usually really good human reason and finally when the price is that they feel OK and also when they apologize for that context they also repair it so in the process you give it and they think of my emotions with children and anybody who was think by emotions in a constructive way so conflicts not that constructive conflict is healthy and actually if you actually use constructive conflict in families that can be a real wonder for you in your relationships remember everything you feel is a problem now so when you feel angry you know being so I think that's a ridiculous thing you know me too and that you know what hold on to it being so come see come when you hurt seeks to think all these things of what we want to teach our child when they hear that feeling of self right I know this wait a minute talk with this is great I think sat on the comforter that's positive and constructive So I think that any parent listening is like no brainer we don't scream and shout and be horrible to you don't put our children thoughts sometimes when we do you because we. Yeah he said it's just going oh it's fine don't worry about it or as you said in the car just ignore each other the whole way home you know it's about nice day out. It's more about going OK over dad or mom or what Doesn't that we just had one of those situations where we focus Contro or sometimes you relate to that because it's got really angry in a playground you kids look at like yeah you know that so they don't have control over changing it so the biggest agree but they have control over it and that's what our commission is thank you very much indeed Emma Kenny there the child psychologist the headline it may be better to have a route in front of the children after all your thoughts on Matt as a child as a parent after the news and 9.
