Radio one to. 3 minutes past 4 yes Saturday morning the 30th of December the weekend is here if you lost track of what day it is I don't blame you it's always the way of the Christmas week isn't it the days mean nothing it's all determined by whether it's Christmas Day or Boxing Day or news a or anything whatever it is Saturday is jammed with if you till 6 am this morning so happy Well you're listening to b.b.c. Radio London and the lines are open OTOH 72242000 if you were to come and join in the program you'd be very very welcome we've been talking were predominantly about the potential for London to be using these so-called mobile alcohol recovery centers or drunk tanks. They're going to be used more widely across the country next year they've been trialled out for a couple of years now in cities like Bristol and Newcastle to secure with some success. And while there's a good argument to roll them out a little bit further there are also pretty good arguments to say that we shouldn't be doing it we shouldn't be intervening we shouldn't be providing a support network for people who get so completely drunk they don't even know the their own name anymore it's almost an endorser and I suppose providing people with an opportunity a safeguard to know that if they get that drunk they'll always be some are there to look after them I don't really buy into that I think actually let's provide a useful source of intervention which eases the pressure on emergency departments who actually need to be there for people in genuine medical need and let's not put drunk people in police cells a mess of Sara Lee because you know the police have got better things to do with their time. So this could be if used correctly a useful intervention in my opinion so on the face of it I think yes drunk tanks go for it let's get them in this get out there right now in fact is there be people out there in the pouring rain if it's still raining this morning who could use a little bit of help and somewhere safe to sleep off their excess consumption. Or do you think drunk tank should London use the motor 072242000 we're talking about the New Year's owners' list as well which was published in the last few hours on the seas b.g. Singh and Barry gave made a night alongside Dame Darcey Bussell the Strictly judge has been made a Dame controversially Nick Clegg the pretty prime minister has received a knighthood. Jilly Cooper and t.v. Chef Rick Stein have become c b s and while there are many other famous names on their courses the not the non famous names that are arguably all the more important of the 1123 people named on the main on his list issued by the Cabinet Office with 70 percent of the recipients recognized for work in their communities in a voluntary or paid capacity there's also well over 100 people recognized for their contributions to military service as well. Those are the names making the headlines of course what do you make of the honor system in general over to our 72242000 what's your reaction to this year's New Year's on this list I've been asking you for your memories of your 18th birthday celebrations after one dad from Sheffield made an interesting observation his daughter posted on Twitter and it's gone bonkers with people discussing the fact that on this very New Year's Eve every single adult in the world will have been born in the 20th century every child in the world will have been born in the 21st century and it's the only day that's true for so in other words anybody born before New Year's Day 2000 is over 18 was anybody born from that date on which will be still under age and legally a child but from the 1st of January then of course the 1st people born in 2000 will begin to turn 18 search makes New Year's Eve The only date where that child's birth is actually true. It's lovely that people have taken that to their hearts and it's been widely read tweeted of course and lots of people discussing it is very very fun the parents have been pointing out of course that the 21st century didn't actually stand till New Year's Day 2001 but that's by the by. I think it's a lovely observation and it made me think of my 18th birthday so I'm asking you for your memories of your 18th birthday this morning as well and we just throw in one extra topic in the mix true or false they don't build them like they used to this after Apple has apologized for slowing down some older i Phone models. They say they claim to. Increase battery life because users of all the i Phones are saying that it is the trying to intervene in through the back door to make you upgrade your handset. It just makes me think of the idea of the notion of builtin redundancy it's a common notion within technology in technology these days and not just you know the pretty sharp stuff like your smart phone even your microwave after a couple of years is likely to break down but you know some people about washing machines still going that they bought in the 1950 s. . They don't build on what they used to do you agree or not or 2 or 72 for 2000 we can talk about all of those things between now and 6 the lines are open and we're off to Amsterdam and Philip Hello Philip Good morning how are you know I think you have a term of the. Series of kids. George my observation the table was grooming. Pigs in blankets and I know I feel guilty because now they've now if you had them making a bacon without nitrates Casa gin free we could only bacon again Herat Yes Oh I planted agent bacon for a test down the gun off it I don't know why you know I don't have the laptop English and English breakfast and more. But I can remember the last I had bacon for breakfast normally some sort of a complement to the main meal in some form or the other had to do the sprouts without bacon bits because to the to the table were vegetarian. You had to consider that oh of course as I said to son Ishai only the turkey the pigs in blankets and the gravy were had me everything else was vegetarian friendly Oh I couldn't even do the potatoes in the meat fat all had to be taught all had to be don't know what the candidate you have health Oh no it is a team effort he said. I can't imagine you last week even talking about peeling the spats it made me think about who is helping you. Have everybody mucked in and did their bit but I was I was the puppet master if you like. And it was about the clearing up that they all help our this in Nevada is where I stopped but with a glass of red and delegated the rest of the powering up the guy felt like I didn't it I think it got all these people asked why why Evan Goddard I mean you know it's . I think had the had the west part tat just isn't it you know huge trees it it's true I know well that's exactly no I delegated. That bit definitely it is only yesterday that I actually had the house back completely empty. Everywhere your parents are all the way they went home I think all day after Boxing Day so that was what Wednesday and then I had friends arrive Wednesday to come and stay even then I had to run them to Heathrow early deals on Thursday. So once they'd gone. I think it's a hotelier vending feels like it and I would feel if I swear anywhere. Never mind all of it's lovely to speak back interest are charging. Us. That's a good I'm going to have that new Yeah I've got 3 people coming on New Year's Eve but I hope I will be so bad for you for the program. That they do let their head down here on New Year's Eve you know if you're going to have drunkenness here it's more likely to be on you is even Christmas Eve What if I would. Oh yes and this and if if I can you must if I'm on the phone can hear them in the background when you when I went into feeling on the street when your few years ago is stopping people to talk to London to another religious station but they did and against the backdrop of these fireworks everywhere that you know they are camping down a bit you know everybody can let off fireworks at a certain time but you have the official in a fish a firework display near the central station you know on the i River there and. They are sort of because the people abusing you Randi allowed to do it from 6 onwards not a ton but I think and people should let him off all day long and you know people get very upset and frightened or you know these bang as being led off and well on the Pats Of course you know my Saturn is a fire what goes off anywhere near my sister she instantly becomes enraged because she's worried about the animals that are going to be frightened to death that I had 3 cats at one stage and we kept them all in or got them all in because we were living on the ground floor flat then got them all in specifically that evening because I get terrified at the risk of them running off altogether. And you know you're warned about that and I don't know what dogs with a dog says so well I'm lucky that my Yorkshire terrier Zoe is 12 years old now as deaf as a post you could left. Behind hers you wouldn't even know it. Well I mean that is a point and. I hope you might effect call it on that evening my able to hear the fabrics I start off to of course Renate head so it'll be 11 o'clock with you when it's midnight here Ok Ron on so long and so will be a baby too I am going to but. Maybe you want to pass well 2 am here is getting around 1 am with your one hour behind Ok so. You know when I make phone calls late at night on the new year I would have to think well this too you know have some of them gone to bed Raanjhanaa very. Few years it has a midnight phone calls on a New Year's Eve. What about the drunken behavior that is there any intervention in Amsterdam to help. Too much online to see if there is a what. They call them booze buses as well don't they they call the drunk tanks that brews bass boss you know like this like these huge. I don't think they've been on to that the way they have in England but I suppose that's a good sign because it means that it's not such a problem. The risk drunkenness but. You don't have been specially women to design mostly for the tourist or to feel. If it's going to be you can be sure it's a tourist I mean we're all very well behaved you see we. The resident in the course here that know the Tarus of course they're going to and you have tragic incidents of people falling into the canal you know which of the water is filthy and if there's nobody there to have been in session incidents where people have drowned you know that you know the canals are all open you can it walk in a drunken state you could find yourself right on the wall what's a good point that I see because people who aren't familiar with them still being that the network of canals forms this incredibly. Widespread and quite smooth intricate network of. Some quite wide canals in places some much narrower but as you say along the pavement there's very little between you and the waters and that I miss and you know I parked my bike there's a church you might remember know the flower market and I put my bike there just outside the trench and is right on the edge of the water and I just railing there if for example you know several clubs and pubs and clubs along the same single it's called. You can just you can sort of stagger out of there and walk towards the edge and it happens and of course some trout do drug addict you know they had this campaign of putting up notices especially for tourists warning about never buy stuff on the street if you are going to buy it by at least you know inside the coffee shops wrong. And there's been a campaign because we've had several very sad incidents in the summer people sort of going on you know on a trip as it were jumping out to winders thinking they can fly pan yes you had that. That. Is so. I think if it is a drug problem here of course is tourists who think this is paradise and you know everything's easy to get and. That actor for his girlfriend who used to come over she went to radio and her friend always used to make for the never scruffy shop she was really hooked on it so we always had this joke you know much state which would be coming back into the hotel. But I think if you stick to that you know what you're doing and I mean it's a free society but whether it should believe it just show me the go here I mean the police turn a blind eye to a lot of things I mean hard drugs or not and then you know and you have these sort of. You dissed of did come back to that about drunken behavior not as you say not of them falling into the canals is not so uncommon. I'm I'm constantly amazed that we don't hear of more people falling off platforms on the Underground network. In the state. When they get to this day I mean I know this stuff are incredibly aware and you can see them watching if people get to that point but they're not on every platform they called on every platform and you know if people have made it as far as a platform level and they're in the state what stops them tumbling off the edge is just you know it's to be electrocuted you got the electric conductor precisely long before the train pulls into the station they could be already gone a. True and I'm especially on the date you know platforms like the Piccadilly line and show on. That is a real hazard and there are many station platforms Yeah you know we had an inches and here the other day somebody I think they probably were drunk or in drugs fell off the platform and what was said Jim people just sort of look they just sort of say It's none of my business somebody else must cope with it and that every call and reaction you know but get a crowd of people sort of coming up but. We as I say that the drunkenness here the greatest danger is falling in the canals all. Falling in front of a trap I'm you know we have we've had incidents here in the trams can't stop very easily if a somebody falls in front of them driver has to pull up. But yeah I have to say I mean I always feel for the driver when you do when you're on the London Underground network and you hear that announcement this car down the district lawn because a person on the train and you think I'll call you know what a horrible Sonali I was on them I mean the trauma they must have. You know makes you wonder how long they can. Stay off work and to recover from that to. Make a that film did you ever see and the Qur'an and that I've never seen it actually is about you you keep giving me a list of films and t.v. Programs to watch for the fun to forget the religious. The 70 as the seventy's when I won't go into that but that is dear to my heart because one of my 5 member of my family wrote the 7th which had the wonderful pope and it you know remember. Of course yes and he was so brave because he was a pioneer he made this film called Victim way back in the sixty's I mean he really took a risk and long before anything was legalized and he played this game a barrister who'd been blackmailed at the time. But that film was ahead of its time. You know the dialogue and everything and it made you realize as I was very young and very young at the time but the sixty's where a good time to grow up in you know as you shaken off over the sort of war driven this of the wall which preceded that now and. It was of a fun time to live and I think. You know that film you know the relation between those 2 the the 7 Tours but I read that burger absolutely takes the he has his musty eating out of his head Crikey Well there's another one I'm going to put on the list and now Gates is too easy to spot as to say that we need to be watching Black Mirror. Always good to Ok my left again we're in touch. This is why I also just got me into Black Mirror on Netflix where an episode on that would be would be great if you. Know. That another thing to look out for but no power for the crowd to have the crown absolutely all these things in and call me by my name that film I got to go and say all you well I've seen it twice now. And it had been renewed effect if only a few days in between but I wish to taken by that film and I've read the reviews and there is a direct you know he he was very bold. But they they are absolutely brilliant absolute not true as both stop both of them well you know another thing to add to the list. Now Chris Gregoire news on a joint. Yes again of it Nick Clegg and not particularly surprised he's made tonight because after all he was deputy prime minister and then the political world as a person that counts for something I mean he's beaten David Cameron to attention to a house. And. And then you had. Been to cable he was wrong or made given the knighthood but what I do object I think you were saying it to some of these. These obscure people in the back benches who get knighthoods party hacks out really aren't they I mean you have people like well there's a lot of political movers and shakers. Behind the scenes that probably most of us have never heard of. And yet they seem to be being honored for their work and this is one to reason I promise she wouldn't do any course but hold seems to have done exactly the times she kind of backtracked and then she had that embarrassment over her closest. Places Carly doesn't show Damian Damian creaming grainy You won't get a knighthood really where I can imagine the Queen saw me off on that and of course I don't think Gemma Corbin with the proof of knighthoods atoll I mean he wouldn't be nominating paper I think in his whether I wanted to on the labor side sure his position is all new on the on his list but he did congratulate I wouldn't think it's difficult to tell and then of course you got s.n.p. I don't know if they've gotten in you know they will of course say. Probably not interested. They want independence but the Tory benches the back benches that I bet take a pretty smug look at one before long. You know and I threw out to the list of his many other things well yes and you've got Kenneth Clarke I'm surprised he said Father of the house he hasn't got one. Of course you never know they might refuse or they might for some reason they might refuse Well there's a long list of people who've just rejected the owner. Of various different reasons absolutely said I congratulate your colleague on their. It's edits and yet he Nessa got an amen after services to broadcasting and charity so you're thrilled I think you should get one of the. 7. Little broadcasts. Not only want to think. Yes but what do you think there's a do you approve of them the owners I think when they use correctly and they used to highlight the work of. Both general public in terms of their contribution to their communities I don't see any problem with go on I don't really understand the point of. Making celebrities. Dames and kind of thing I mean I was about a huge fan of the Bee Gees'. You know and I suppose Barry gives contribution to our entertainment. Landscape over the years has been Voss but I would have and ex talk about dead of a few days notable dangers she had in the Pastor Dave. Peggy Ashcroft gave people a damed and Maggie Smith made rages. James of the theory. I sometimes think they deserve it because you know they've given so much untrue den. She's a national treasure you haven't done a good Davis in the spots Well Ginger I mean very young people have scored in the limpid games they get very early on that. That night to stand well that's a I have sowed just just briefly I went I went out on Thursday night and ended up in a in a bar in class. Where they were doing a Christmas pan tug. And it was cold dame of Thrones. A mickey take obviously on the whole notion. And it was a panto stopped entirely cost entirely with drag queens who then took the mickey out of the Game of Thrones genre in the form of a crazy panto and it was it was an absolute hoot. And I was. Right throughout one of thinking Oh my goodness how long is this going to go on voice at the same time laughing my head off I thought of you until I know Joy this you'd be in every roaring with laughter some of the jokes. I mean I were actually good as a box of cap and that's going to places that they do or they have to do things like that in the back cap there's a Camden Town and one of us but that's closed you know. I don't have a part of any. I would listen if it was still even there for now I have a lovely weekend so you and you are used to and I'm glad that Monash you got that bit of rest. Now is old enough again I have a new year I think. I will live today I well remember I'm on the radio but you sound you know you sounding good from I think you are going to Lebanon on the lemon and ginger tea now you say that there was a thing that keeps me going yeah. Ok cuz she didn't take a long gold that was devoured in minutes. Making sure bread for New Year because he's got to see so far he's whipping up a bunch of short hard today no I wish you could see Norris face she sat down to read the news for the me. You mention that I'm likely to be bringing shortbread in the next 34. Babying with joy at that I love that idea I used to get that mark several regularly now of course a continent more sad rely upon some of the bringing it to me Oh I'll pop some in the post lovely to talk to thanks very much indeed for your call this morning 020-722-4200 extension 2 catch up. He's been recognised for services to charity the government infrastructure advisor Edward Adonis has announced he's quitting his role describing leaving the e.u. As a populist a nationalist boss and the next Labor minister has a high profile campaign a. Bragg's it said Theresa May was pursuing a course fraught with danger of the U.K.'s departure from the e.u. Several families left homeless by the grand thoughts how a fire have not received extra money promised to them by the council to help cover the cost of Christmas through borrowed Kensington and Chelsea has apologized saying it made a mistake often the $20.00 households that were promised the really payments were missed out London's weather today will be modest in most parts drawing with some bright sunny intervals have a southern coast may see some showers I would more gentle rain in the south and west by the evening maximum temperature 13 degrees Celsius that's 55 degrees Fahrenheit more news coming up at 5 o'clock b.b.c. Radio pop the question 500000 spectators to think Sauza performance just this year another iconic eighty's in Eddie the Eagle Edwards involves training teams of London and Paris is televised around the world and it takes place in the city outside London his day parade. From Piccadilly to Harlem and scream when from day one. And guess what it's going in for a friend catch a. B.b.c. Radio the so much fun New Year's Day parade for me January 15th leave. For 30 year to now Jim Davis have you through till 6 am here on b.b.c. Radio London I must name check the team to box Productions who created the dame 3 presents panto the 2 birds they've they're bringing the Golden Girls the musical. Soon enough to clap I'm sure that would be great fun as well but it was yeah it was hilariously funny I have to say in terms of panto's a real twist on the Zoner so enjoyed that right where are we good morning if you're just joining me if you're just waking up waking into your weekend it's Saturday morning it's 432 now and it's Jim with you till 6 and this morning we're talking about the notion of drunk tanks and whether London should be using them this is the mobile alcohol recovery centers which are currently being used in cities like Bristol in Newcastle with some success. Should we be using them in in London this particular weekend of course will be particularly alcohol field no getting away from it there is. Arguably nothing wrong with it if it's all done reasonably and responsibly but of course there will be a percentage of people who don't drink responsibly and who do lose control and then do lose their friends and then do lose their wallet and purse and handbag and ability to get home and even the ability to remember their own name you know people get into that state. We shouldn't judge but we should help how do we help well I don't particularly want to see them plugging up a better any I don't particularly want to see them in a police cell either the police or got better things to be doing with their time and scooping up people who who are drunk and disorderly. Although of course I'm aware the charge still exists but rather see a positive intervention allow them to to sober up and drop and then have them pointed toward some sort of support network or service which could help them gain a better understanding of their that excessive alcohol consumption at which point them then might start to make more positive choices about their social life or their noise ala I'm not condemning people who drink I drink myself so I'm not in a position to condemn I just want to see people who get out of control drunk looked after a little bit better and I'm thinking on the face of it maybe these drunk tank so the right thing what do you think OTOH 72242000 so far few are just joining me almost universally It seems people are in agreement that yeah they would be a good addition the critics of the idea would effectively be an endorser and have people going out and getting blind drunk to the point where they they they can't get themselves home but it's all right they know that somebody will sweep them up and put them on a bed in one of these mobile recovery units until they are able to get home under their own steam. And it's treating the symptom not the cause. There's some validity to that but I think the intervention if it's done right is actually far more beneficial to us to society at large because it gets them off the street keeps that person safe until such time when they can get themselves home and hopefully if they're if it's if I'm right then they'll be paid to have to pay for the privilege I think should absolutely have to pay in as a result of being scooped up and put into one of these facilities this should not be an n.h.s. Service that is free I think somebody whose finds themselves in one of these facilities should. Eventually face the bill as well as the music do you think or 2 or 7 to 2 for 2000 to comment on today welcome to share your view and terms of the New Years on his list what's your reaction to the names on that on the honor system as a whole. Technology they don't build things like they used to what do you think Apple of apologized after facing widespread criticism for admitting they deliberately slowed down old i Phone models something they say was too was done to increase battery life because customers are saying well it's just a way of trying to move us on to newer models what do you think built in redundancy into technology do you believe it's true OTOH 72242000 finally your memories of your 18th birthday as we're about to enter into 2018 or New Years Eve everybody who is classed as legally an adult will be will have been born in the 20th century whereas everybody who is legally a child will be would have been born in the 21st century it's the only day when that's true. 207-224-2000 Jason on the line in planning to next Good morning Jason. Nice to talk to you this morning a well you know lots about thank you very good thank you what would you like to say Jason about how it's possible for a lot to say yes I can now it's like yeah I right it was the 1st star high speed watch which a couple about Katyn. Fights it out in space. And you never guess well go I'm still gazing right there. And I. Think that's the perfect example of a solid bit of tech that was built to last probably the last of a generation because everything since 9090 seems to give up within 2 years you know we had people tickets out of 5 a week I would say. Where are we now we're coming up to Crikey we're 30 odd years later and it's still going strong fantastic Well I'll call bright I'll call posh chop with you I would sure but. That's that's a good thing chop is that Mike's a lot always than you think. See every time I can use double dog every time a penny thing in it I get it out and this guy can wear any more for a 2nd I don't see a lot it's going to be a low heat and everything's going to be on for hours for it to be too for the tumble dryer to work I mean I want to help me out so much I'll buy that stick shaker there you gotta buy that has to be a law right Ok oh so a car. Wash which raises what's about 5 vs 6 is barely and still going strong yes firewood Well that's that's the main thing isn't it I like art but I got bashful to say this well do you believe that some manufacturers build in redundancy to their appliances so that they do break down almost like clockwork when I was. First look at back about she use to get high it's a way yeah I want some a couple years later that was good but I do well. Because the old one will break down again that's right yeah I think I wanted one so what I would do is fix a set about 2nd I and this is this this is when we used to hire tv's it doesn't happen now does it but now it is to go to rumble lows didn't we and. She's a guy so get out there will each Ok if I bring a pair so his shaver could out they would say that would dicing you know with a white sugar coat I just rate yes he went down that opened the still well there we go that celebrity that you know was made it also for the baby so you know don't call him glad you know Brown Yeah she up and I was visiting Chelan. I think I will wait my 1st invites are open as to Jason I will be many years away I suspect. Millicent thanks for your call this morning and so you know about it you take suggestions Paris was a machine built in 1988 still going strong probably the last of its kind. OTOH are 72240000 they true or false they don't build them like they used to discuss. With the owners Julie Cooper never been a fan of Julie's royalty myself not really kind of my thing Rick Stein however become a c.b. I am a fan of Rick's. One of his establishment sim Padstow not the restaurant couldn't get in there for love nor money probably couldn't afford if I did but I did have fish and chips or Mr Fish a fish and chip shop which sells the fish and chips or wind in the wall and I have to say they were spectacular but I tell you something else if they were anything less than spectacular I'd have been very upset I think they know that. Quite whether it's worth a c.b. Not sure Hugh Laurie interesting the only list with a c.b.e. Is well now a big fan of Hugh Fry and Laurie were always my favorites were do you remember the old. What was the show called on Saturday night oh gosh it's gone clean out my head now when they used to do the law comedy and Harry Enfield was on it from Laurie what was that cool inserted you know Channel 4 I'm sure it was what they see this is a sign of aging isn't it. Facts like that used to be lodged firmly in my head start to tumble and disappear please somebody text me quickly and tell you know the show I mean it was law I know it'll be alright no that was something else Saturday Night Live was something not life that may have been it anyway I was big for I knew I was going to fast because I want used to watch the lorry on the withdrawal or you know the pair of them you just used to actually make double up with laughter so I'm pleased to see Hugh Laurie on the list that. There are many others a man Holmes from tv's this morning and of us has been awarded an o.b.e. . And of course our very own Eddie Nestor has made the list as well huge congratulations to him for receiving an m.b.e. For services to Brokaw c.n.n. Charity causes the charity work that he does that is the more important aspect of that So what do you make of the on a system as a whole 020-722-4000 extension 0 your reaction to this year's list. Coming of Age celebrations can you remember your 18th birthday wanted to do and the thing that got us really talking this morning is whether or not London should use drunk tank so let's go back to the law and Stevenson opens next Good morning Steve. Allow sent us all to this morning what's on your mind today about all sort of think about that program to talk about all the false I was it not before it was live comedy Harry Enfield did load of characters on it he had loads of money and he's. Got also bad Ross the kebab shop owner. That rolls. Completely go to him I think it may have been Saturday Night Live 5 minutes gone and all that. Good t.v. Though it was so high that when you try to think of somebody just call me that would be your number. It's Ok now because we just grab a phone and do that I may but I'm chilling trying to resist that somebody else absolutely od on the living so somebody Texas Intel as well which I am sure I will if you want to save us Dave about the technology why. Things all worn out quick all the time on the next because of economics right if things have to be my team I don't like quickly because. Otherwise it puts manufacturers' out business so you cannot mix Yeah yeah Lord God Scott told them where they was when they 1st started this and there's a carpenter a lot like and he's told still working was more inelastic the products and the product is all to do with economics a logical many people out of business. It's. A con trying to pinpoint a moment in history where people who made stuff identified that if same build stuff to last then they were going to eventually do themselves out of business. At which point they then sort of began to build in a redundancy to do the item so he said even with tools for example something that is solid and manufactured and built to last eventually will break. Instead of using a still BUSY calls trailing is not a long pause with. A new thing that is deliberately to. Sort of last season go and buy new stuff in a year to start with you only want a minute on going could quite cheap I mean all useable imo I'd say of the 50000 to God. I think pounce thing isn't shaped it's just a day with a few moments. Exactly so use it wear it out break it been a gumbo new one. Yeah. I'm absolutely with the and it goes across almost everything isn't it from the from the big expensive white goods the appliances we use in our kitchen to try quite stations on trials and all that sort technology. They've already got in the quad runs there's a price action for now already on the price station 6 already they've got it but they're just wife for younger ones too well and so they can sell a product they can see with with that with the aspirational technology like the like the smartphones in the games consoles they're relying on not just the technology failing but actually the design of the the public to have the latest version it's not old Bell the technology collapsing and failing it is. Exactly again it's all the economics and this desire they create in a Steve to want the latest version of this thing I've got a perfectly functional phone but at some point I'm going to think well there's a much better want to out there now so I'll try this one and go get the new one you know exactly who they were originally. It's all to do with the saying they all driving it through constantly. To point Steve. And we also would like the sorry about the far away saying oh yes Ok far across live in the woods Well our I had lovely boy he was my little by the. By the Big 10 and the centers of all is what Oscar our lives are like the migrants so it was a far worse one of a salute they. Well that's like crap his pants Well you said it now. Well that's what we think of this on the morning where we're we'll be alright yeah yeah I know I got a lot of it I've seen a dog's face when those fireworks go off they don't know what it is they can't possibly comprehend what it is and all they not only read it how would it not tend to get out. I often go splat a little own. Story probably I'll go I'll go previously I would no I'm not the greatest dog yeah. Story. Levi as well as a full alcoholism education needs to be told this goes about it Ok so that's kind of like years to life just to be toast don't stop drinking a lot so the drunk tanks. Again that's treating the symptom not the cause you think we should be teaching people from an early age of the impacts of alcohol tonight Ok Oh it was nice succinct all that state thanks very much for your call Nice to talk to this morning take it very well spicy before your so absolutely no stay here for me Take care have a great New Year when you're older bestie 27242000 pulling all this text into say Saturday night Friday. Is go to I'm sure it was Saturday Night Live I'm glad I've given up going to Google sets a day night. Just going to check quickly because I'm absolutely sure I'm sure that was it. See now I can see after being on air for more than 3 decades he said that was the American version of Saturday Night Live I'm talking about the British version of Saturday night I'm sure it was called that. Yeah hereon field was on yes that guy Saturday night no Saturday Live was a Saturday life. Oh please somebody help me with this is really winding me up what was the name of this t.v. Show with you from my Hugh Laurie Stephen Fry Ben Elton of course was always the hope and I want hosted a Harry Enfield and Sir many more Saturday night or Saturday Night Live. Morris's in Peterborough Hello Morris Good morning good morning Jim I'm sorry I can't help you with the program I remember the neighbor is I. Do you remember I Ben Elton used to always come out and available but of politics we go controversial. Well Harry entry was in a way it was a bit of a throwback to 'd a 960 s. Program that was the week that was the way that they did it was really you're too young to remember that because. I think much of it of course because it. Launched brand name 2 Ronnies and well the David Frost and junk. To run is. Not was seriously satirical. As it was actually. Serious was the right expression writing yeah. 23 things really yes go around somewhere which I've concentrated during the course of your program. Obsolescence I think the motor car industry started building obsolescence way way back. Nasa's can tell you haven't as with cars to safely I guess that they may actually last a little longer now than they made it through the. Seventy's eighty's ninety's is. Certainly some disaster most cars built. Particularly long bridge. But as I lie in my bed. I have a dressing table to wardrobes which will be 51 years old next year. G. Plan g. Plus ra. Ra brings back to me well they are you say you really I think most is because that's really interesting because. You would expect a certain degree of acceptable wear and tear when you're thundering down motorways and driving around town starting and stopping and so on you expect your brake pads to need replacing and your tires to need replacing That's all that's all well and good but there's other bits and pieces within a car that you just would hope would last when it electrically have been abolished started writing the chassis started getting rusty 'd and flaking and they just fell apart. Which was pretty disgraceful really and then the Comes acts of that Dimebag. One of the early topics and the drunk tank yes. I'm guilty we would use to drink and drive way back and. While I never would. Very early 19. Of them up with a couple of anecdotes about that which I'm not proud of that. Has been the source of some incredulity I suppose. On with a brother of mine in Birmingham I was staying with my mum and dad and driving the dollar is the duty driver that I saw the other from because a lot and we went. To a nightclub we parked signed the night of the run run that's just the rules straight. This was 1971. Were assisted inside by the band says because none of this could stand very easily we went in search of a sister. Who was delighted to see us. And the pubs were shut when pubs used to close. The pubs are shut so this place was the room and it was open. Until I don't know what time but we came out on about May nice night I got back into the car drive the safe Rover long broad straight up to 5 ways where there is none the past now but there was traffic lights and it was a 5 ways junction I know it well. And my next memory was some chap knocking on the driver's window saying. You know we have rules and license street signs are we all just sleep for the slick for the way of yep yep the traffic lights which is not entirely a thing to be commended but the other one late in the 1970. I lived in Norfolk. Just a small town on the edge of the broads. My local pub was about a mile or the quarter away it was a nice walk to get there but it was awful walking black and white in the pub so I used to drive. And. It really was in the back of beyond and driving in either direction was not hazardous to me or to anybody else really because there was nobody around. One night. I went to the pub and when I returned. Well I actually woke up quite cold. And I was sitting in the driver's seat in the car with the door open and the headlights on my drive had made it back to the drive and it was life just after 6 in the morning. And that's not so big command is either. So at least you've got back goodness only knows on trial of destruction. No destruction to know wasn't the mark on the measure because. There was absolutely nothing but. What was interesting about there about your stories and your anecdotes and of course the fact that we find them so socially unacceptable Now then with the idea that yes it's raining and driving is a complete social taboo and yet getting blind drunk to the point where you can't walk along the pavement that's what I was going to hear just really with a. Boy In fact it's even lauded even glamorized isn't it and yes celebrities you know talk about getting drunk all the time is shown widely on on reality television as well you know things make the cynics and I think that's how I should behave. But it is clearly how we should not be and. I'm not a wholly a person by any stretch of the imagination. And I've sort of since last October. Though something that was a charity thing from the Millen nurses I think stopped so I think it was called. And I happened to mention it's my lady friend and she latched on to the idea and childishly old yes that would be very good for you. So. I can possibly not drink or talk through October but. I'll come up with a compromise so I stopped drinking or done I was drinking every single night of the way to live on my mind my lady friend who I have the perfect marriage she lives in my little quarter way. And it works Believe me that is a very good relationship I had dinner with and well she's got family staying at the moment and her family last evening. That I came home which was the right thing to. Our relationship is very good I don't mean she'll ever marry me we're both with us I don't think you'll ever marry me you know I actually quite like living alone in this world. Because I'm a miserable old last I'm not but anyway. I've developed a taste for your own space and I have some Yeah I'm. Actually quite enjoyed that. I stopped drinking Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday and what was going to lead up to it was every night when I started cooking. For a class of wine. And you know it was normally a stroking a bottle. Most nights there was nothing left of the bottle buyer left by the end of dinner really largely because whilst I was cooking I was slipping through tears and I was slipping while I sat down in my chair after. I always easy my table I do not do a tray on my lap I just don't do that so I. Probably at my table and my glass of wine in my right hand be right yeah. I was drinking a bottle of wine right I don't think that's uncommon at all I really don't I think that's going and is sad really isn't it well yes I mean too much because this 10 units in a bottle of wine a new I think the average recommendation for males is 14 or 15 in a week so if you're drinking 70 that's a that's a lot more. Done it for many many years as well Jim which is. My 2nd so whatever damage to be done I've done it. But but now I'm neither. Does God dispensation over the festive period but I will not drink a Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday once we've got through this and you know I'm coming. But there are a couple of things about. Her piece that's. Probably saving about 40 quid a week. Is not about saying Morris there we should leave it as I'm going to the 5 o'clock news but you've made me you've made me think that with your call and I'm grateful for that and it's also pro prompted me to mention the notion of drawing January as well which is something that I know a lot of people will be considering doing over the course of the next 4 weeks or so if you've not heard about that I'll tell you more after the latest news headlines with Norfolk a. Digital radio and t.v. . And. Radio station. Radio longer. Than is nice at 5 o'clock our time Norfolk came good morning more than a 1000 people including entertainers authors and politicians have been recognized in the new year on this list knighthoods have gone to the form of b. To bring their star and the only surviving member of the Bee Gees' Barry Gabe the former deputy prime minister Nick Clegg is also knighted 70 percent of the people names have been recognised for their work in the community the businessman and philanthropist Ken Elisa helps people from deserving backgrounds become future leaders he's the 1st black lieutenant of Greater London and hopes his knighthood is an example of how far the individual can go I grew up in a 2 up 2 down house in a poor part of Nottingham and today on the Queen's representative in London I've just been knighted the British dream is alive and well Luda dharnas who has resigned as chairman of the government's national infrastructure Commission has.
