Just fantastic So that was Day Tripper by the Lawrence Jones. That was fantastic thank you so much so Lawrence good afternoon to you and introduce those who go. To mints. Always hate it when I say the name wrong. Drums the Phil Wilson local boy. Beautiful backing singer. He's been in Holland fantastic So how long have you been together as a band that. I've been doing freshly since I was 16 so these guys have been fills the longest member of the band in nearly 4 years so you must be doing some right you know you're fallen out yet but when you get on the road later on in the year and you're living out of each of those pockets all the time he might be a different story so for you I mean obviously your guitar and vocals and where did your interest in music stem from what you did you like listening to growing up we just heard you do fantastic Beatles cover what do you like what you like to do well studied classical guitar for many years did all my grades and just realized you know I've got into Jimi Hendrix and I would always play this you know he's vinyls and Eric Clapton and he took me to the loads of gigs over the years and I guess we're just going to wait for it so we can blame your dad but actually no not blame him I want to thank him for some fantastic music so and then for you when did you decide right this is going to be a career this is going to be the thing that I want to do as a job it's not just going to be a hobby Well I was studying music and music academy studying you know like a degree and I got off of my 1st record there just before as 80 and got off it's gone to with an artist called Johnny Winter and was a big tour around the u.k. You know it's a Remember been a big decision at the time just to even leave you Neal go on tour and I've sort of been on tour since you have so you know never been a mistake this is you know where you live these days is it just about a suitcase but also I mean at that age to be offered you know getting that contract is kind of I thinking what is this genuine is this going to be kosher I suppose it's a big decision to mate I guess you just got to trust in yourself as well you know it's not the. Normal route of education you know Stephanie rock n roll but you know you got to get it you go a lot of good life experiences out there and it gives you a lot of different pleasures Well you've been doing throughout this share an office so you've got to talk I mean November and December so what is this year been like for you if you've been a few festivals over the summer that kind of thing yeah we've been playing a lot in the Netherlands we've got our truck a list of our main radio out there so when we go over there you know it's a it's a big deal and when we come here you know we're still we're still try trying as hard as we can here of course but it's just a different experience everywhere we go over Europe and I guess we just about get a lucky break and steak Well I'm just looking at the clock to see what time we've got without travel news about 5 minutes time that's how you are I want some more music is all right with you Stephanie right right fantastic b.b.c. Radio link you sure got the Lawrence Jones band in our studio today blame lifea it's I get why. The be . The be. The be . The bomb the. Subject . The big problem of. The. Sublimely the bottom line. Is. The be. The be You know I'm so sorry I call it sound like a stadium full of people I'm just trying to give you a bit of prose that was brilliant Sorry long as I'm going to skip past because I do want to yell about the drones last Phil Wilson from. Skegness which school did you go to that I would suppose be actually supposed. Ok and drums is that something you or is that what you kind of got hooked into with music lessons and stuff with did that come later it's kind of my brother's fault he started playing guitar and I'm 6 years younger than him so I was like oh I want to be with him you know as an annoying little roller and he's like no I want to be with my old mates so I was like if I play drums because there's a shortage of drummers maybe he'll let me be in his band and that's kind of where it came from and then how did you meet with all love for that how did that come about. I played drums and then when I did similar things Laurence left college thought going on top and then we got together I was playing with a band he saw the band and then he played with the band and then just said you want to be in the band and I went Yeah that's kind of it really. Are you having an amazing time yeah it's great it's really great traveling all over the world just on an album you know in America so it's it's it's quite big to go from Skegness to. Miami. All over the world yes great songs yeah fantastic stuff well we all we've got time for one more which we will do in a moment to take it we'll talk about the new album in a bit more about that so as well I mean guys thank you so much for coming in today is just like a real treat having your own personal concert in the studio is fantastic it is b.b.c. Radio link as you will hear more from the restraints band very same but 1st of all that's catch up with the latest travel b.b.c. Radio Lincolnshire travel. Worn Great North Road some problems ongoing heading north in the Rutland area this is that taken coat after a lorry broke down we had an accident scene as well as a lane blocked just after. The pit with turns that's been causing someone to lie still going slow in the area warning to sleep that road not too far from the bags skewing the fuse Waddington to Bracebridge heath or because the road works there's a set of temper lights around Lincoln already coming in the a 15 right so roundabout the $846.00 approach is well also busy on Riseholme road itself but the traffic around Grantham sees outbound on the barbie road coming in on man thought road and heading out to be 1174 it was the I want to little Ponson going to be right also looked a little bit heavy on the senses and the delays some of the problem something to do was call in and let you know 15875 wonderful 6 times on James b.b.c. Radio Lincolnshire travel. Which were given once Radio Lincolnshire some fantastic live music for you today from the Lawrence Jones band by touring in November and December now Lawrence you've been working on a new album What is it take about 2 years or something if I didn't read that right yeah it's taken 2 years to do we wrote about 72 write songs that we worked hard we were really happy with it so what can we expect from the album How would you describe it it's quite hard to describe you know people a lot say it's modern blues pop music. Ok And when's out 27th Ok when does the toast start starts on the 25th we're going to Sweden for 2 weeks then we're going for outfront Germany Holland Belgium the u.k. We've got a big u.k. Toward November December so. Just so you families know when you're going to get a chance to do any Christmas shopping just drop that want to go away for Christmas . So nobody's getting anything in other words fear I mean life is just amazing at the moment and you're having the best time it's yeah it's amazing you know you live for it when you're a musician you know you don't you don't pick it up and say you know this is this is sort of like a job you have to leave this job because if you don't you know it's hard work you've got to love what you do well it is it's a lifestyle isn't it you pack your bags and you're on the road but it's the nature of the beast isn't it but if you love the music in the stuff you're pumping up the fantastic So thank you so much for coming in today and for performing for us as well just as the only lady here today supporting me with the backing vocals we've got Abby here as well these days guys look after you sometimes you. Know they're great to me they treat me like a little princess father must not only stop things really nice so went well when did you meet up with this this rappel and join I'm pretty new with them actually I only joined a couple months ago so I got caught saying hey would you be interested in doing this now like yes. Of course I were to yeah yeah and we had a rehearsal and you know we just clicked straight away and the rest is his history and stake and you on the album as well did you join in for that now I'm fortunate just about missed that but they've got the fantastic I read on that so that's always something to check out you had to get on the tour as well oh yes yeah I'm really excited about that and we've got the euro outfits and everything sort of has these guys they just turn up in all black and they don't have to think about it today I mean it's a lot of politics isn't it about well what would get in there with the outfit trying to figure out the look of the band but not. It's all great fun and I really really enjoy it fantastic Well thank you so much for coming in today Lawrence are right so tall starts then I think the nearest you've got to is here in Lincolnshire you're going to be notting and let's have a look at the day on the 8th of December so people can come along and see you 2020 is not going to be a fabulous year if you think definitely we've got some big festivals already lined up for next year as well you know so we're looking forward so we actually played a festival in Holland called the International Blues Fest and we've got to support star out there on about an even bigger lineup next year so you know who knows where it will take us I can just going to bow down to it now it's been on the same stage as the rink I start how fantastic guys thank you so much for coming in we'll let you do stuff one more time for his ladies and gentlemen it is the Laurence Jones band on b.b.c. Radio Lincolnshire. The back. Room with. The box. We've been. To see. Brilliant brilliant thank you. Bond with the b.b.c. Radio link through November and December in the u.k. Keep an eye out for them nothing is going to be the venue for you if you want to go along but I just want to hear enough Aryan festivals missing is a few Bay Isn't a few but is quite frankly just in the studio for the afternoon so brilliant thank you so much for coming in b.b.c. Radio link and will give up on the live music and will go back to something. Very sad. That was that was every time you go away do you know when you get guests like we get here on the afternoon this is a job it's great fun I've just had a blast with the wonderful bond have been performing life in the studio absolutely brilliant male doing so well and you know sometimes you can quickly and I do bring me out the support in the u.k. As well that got the tour coming up. Later on they share throughout and December and it included in the band and we spoke to him as well Phil Wilson drummer who was from Skegness Lincolnshire at fantastic absolutely enjoyed myself this afternoon I love life music I love going out and seeing live music and it was just something so different about it to listening to recording at home isn't there when you get the live music going you can feel the chest and just really get into the music as well so it's great the Lawrence joins band and as a say the going to be the day get them on some date the 8th of December keep an eye out for their new album as well absolutely fantastic in the fact that they've shared a stage with one go star as well. Makes it all the more impressive anyway right I'm going to stop gushing now. With some. B.b.c. Radio today and still to come on the program we have a man. Weekday afternoon he joins Richard. On point. That the pope he's Alexander Armstrong he's going to be coming up on the program very soon and basically his c.v. Is told. He's done so many things he was one of the comedy. He's a presenter and a. Host of programs like. Pointless. A page on the big screen this summer Horrible Histories of children have been to see that horrible histories the movie he was in that is not a very successful musical career classically trained. Had a number of albums out there done brilliantly in the. Radio presenters are just too And beautiful day b.b.c. Radio Lincolnshire c Taylor with you this afternoon and on the program now we're going to hear from a gentleman who you will see with Mr Rich those men on pointless Alexander Armstrong he's got a c.v. As as long as. Well as tall as is Richard Ozment quite honestly it's quite a long list of achievements that Alexander has he's been on the big screen this summer in the Horrible Histories movie he's presented Have I Got News for you as well as presenting pointless he starts he's really on a screen when you've got to know his name quite well as Armstrong a middle of the comedy and he had a couple of programs to Armstrong Amila and the Armstrong Amila shire as well but he's not immune. Korea he's trained bass baritone brilliant voice and he's got but he's going back to his roots as a stand up comedian he's got a talking up later on this yeah of course with Alexander Armstrong earlier on today and I asked him if the idea of doing standup was something that he found absolutely terrifying. Ye yes I suppose it does I've never done this long before but not done I've done a lot of I've actually done a lot of stand up yeah Weirdly I mean it's not called Stand Up it's that it's the it's the sort of white collar stand up is what they call after dinner speaking so I know I've been doing that for all I do no good 1617 years on I'm used to talking to roomfuls of people and I love it yeah but I generally did 20 minutes and it's your brand new stuff and it's obviously you know it's going to be a full show why did you why did you decide to do this I mean you you have done so much you were on our t.v. Screens all the time but we don't know if that's We love you and you've done so many different things what you want in order to have. Been almost I'm going on I think my children are well impressed I was talking to you today the kind of pointless yes him not little one the other one. The Wedding Present you've you know up to my might might my Yeah my credibility also but I was looking for with my children but yeah so what why why if you thought right stand up is the time to do it enough to do it well I really wanted to get the show written I really badly wanted to. I haven't written comedy songs for a long time not since Armstrong Miller and I just really fancy and I got as I had several ideas whizzing round my head. And I just got various bits and pieces to chat about they're all they're quite they're quite funny just when. Goes on to passages of my life and. Just the strain I guess the sort of you know that when you 1st arrived I'd live I grew up in Northumberland and I then arrived in North Ryde in London age sort of 23 a night just kind of I was just scrambling about for stuff to do really and I knew what I wanted I did want to do comedy and it was just a very strange couple of years of just taking anything that anyone gave me and just seeing how it went where I ended up you know I kind of ended up I somehow managed to make a living out of that but it's. It's a weird Ah it's a funny business because I I don't as you say I've done lots and lots of different things they're all things I really love doing and I think from where other people stand it probably looks a bit crackers my career Yeah I mean it's a straight. You know it all adds up to yeah I know it's all perfectly logical from where I'm standing because it's they're all just things I've always done and things I love doing Yeah but it is funny I mean people I think find it I think people can find it slightly confusing when you do when you have when you're trying to encourage people to see you doing lots of different things but do what I'm doing on this I know what you do want your original question doing stand up doing comedy it's what I hope ways always loved doing its work you know writing comedy and writing silly songs and performing them for people yeah that's basically that's that's about as mean as it gets but also like you say you have done very very different things but it always incorporates a billet comedy in that whatever you're doing and we're going to see you on our big screens as well very soon this is the other thing where your street cred with my children has gone up no end to the Horrible Histories film you know it came out in that came out in August Yeah yeah yeah the whole history film was wonderful and it was just such a lovely chance to just up popped up on me to be comedy tights again. Do you claim in tights I listen to young to you know just make a submission now while you're out so I think well you know if for comic purposes are all done anything but you know it was lovely and I'm a guy hasn't scenes with with Lee man which is always lovely But what's particularly nice is Horrible Histories was. Was kind of devised it was adapted from Terry deary book books I should say by Caroline Norris who is our producer on Armstrong Miller and it's all directed by Don Brigstocke who was our director Armstrong Miller So it's very much a sort of we thing. We look on it as a kind of sister project a bit of home from home really a little bit put out of service the slippers again well exact with the tights Exactly yeah works very very well so the tall. Being on the road again you can enjoy that is a slightly different something not just you know I mean it's yes last time I went on to I don't know God we just had a baby last time I went on tour and I left my wife with 3 children and 3 and a half. I went off and I basically looking for me my. Late night cause we're going I don't know what to do I don't know what to do they're all here they're all screaming I mean poor thing my husband took that to me as well so. Well listen I mean she is this time is not quite that was a sort of 52 date tour this time is just 18 choice dates and we're coming we're coming to King's Lynn on the Happy 3rd of November and you can be on hold as well and then how as well in the 6th So yes a really nice a really nice tour of lovely places 18 dates just a chance to sort of bed in and see you know just see how it all goes but I am so looking forward to it and I can't tell you it's going to be such a joy the funny thing about stand up unlike. The thing I always worried about and this is whether or not you're singing or acting in sketches or not is forgetting your lines that's the thing that gives me Tara is forgetting lines I don't know why I guess you always have to you have to latch on to something to get scared about and that was always the thing I got scared about so I sort of love I love this because it's not like you're forgetting to remember lines you sort of know roughly what you want to talk about news just about it's great Alexander So it's not me Alexander Armstrong Hall he was lovely he was really lovely So he's going on a stand up told well yes maybe standing up a stand up comic is what he's going to be doing so if you fancy going in seeing him on the went to see stocks in the 6 of November he'll be a whole new thing if you're in the south of the county one of the venue had along to the Corn Exchange in King's Lynn as well and that's on the 23rd all the so it's not like them all that was missing was the cop.
