Weather Center good morning the weekend's end is on a pretty dramatic note weather wise for some of us we saw some heavy thunder a downpour sweeping across many parts of the U.K. Particularly the Midlands northern England Scotland and that really sets the tone for the week ahead there will be thorough heavy showers at times like the downpours we've had over the last week or so they won't turn up everywhere all the time but if it does rain where you are in one of these heavy showers this week well it could give enough rain to course some further disruption but as far as today goes actually there is a decent amount of dry weather to be had I'll start with a forecast for England and Wales because here about of cloud and Sherry re moving its way across parts of the middle eastern and southeastern parts of England as we go through the small and by the softening most of those showers should clear away and then the outlook for England and Wales really is largely dry one will see some spells of sunshine want to see light showers but it's cropping up through the western side of England and Wales through the softening but I think many places will end up dry quite breezy and a little fresher than it has been with temperatures between 20 and 25 degrees now for Northern Ireland and for Scotland here a slightly different story we've got some pretty heavy rain moving across northern Scotland through the 1st part of the morning those becoming confined to the northern hours I think through the afternoon but then for Scotland and Northern Ireland yes there will be some spouses sunshine but I will also. Some of those hit and miss showers some of which could be pretty heavy could be thundery as well fairly breezy day temperatures in Northern Ireland and Scotland around 19 or 20 degrees through this evening and tonight we will see some further showers pushing in from the west and decent clear spells as well tomorrow some really heavy downpours around which could cause and destruction the best of any dry weather down towards the south Ben Rich 5 Live weather Thank you Ben Sean and Louise standing by with WAKE UP TO money on the way very soon 1st a quick look at what's making headlines in some of the national papers today the Guardian Trump accused of fueling hate after deadly shootings headline the I has the same story American Nightmare is the headline they go with at the Telegraph pictures people at a vigil for the El Paso shooting victims on its front page its lead story though is pension pot rip off fees could wipe out savings at that story also the lead on the Express which says savers are being fleeced billions in scams and rip off these it's headline is the great pensions robbery. Good morning a late reprieve for today but how disruptive are the imminent airport and airline strikes I think it's so selfish because families have been saving up for months because the money was Shawn Farrington Eloise COOPER So those talks on the pay of Heathrow airport staff continue with the strike tomorrow still on the cards but many flights for today already being canceled We'll have the very latest. For you let us know if you're caught up in that disruption at all also on the program from stolen sheep dogs to listed livestock will also be weighing the cost of rural crime and as well on the program parts of the pension industry are making a living from our savings so say M.P.'s will be speaking to one big fund manager looks after our retirement plans about that Louise and I have a look at what else you got your eye on this morning call these figures from H.S.B.C. Just been released strong profit growth up 16 percent to 10200000000 pounds but the chief executive John Flint is to leave after only 18 months in the jew or not very long haul in the big news that will delve into that in a moment we're also going to be talking about making money online from Snap Chat to Instagram it's not just for grown ups we're going to delve into the world of the kid fluence There you go there's a term I don't not sure if it's in the Oxford English Dictionary yet many of these things you know people might millions of them and then they pop up in the dictionary years later and this is your. Millions of followers bringing home the bacon so one of the kids you know doing this to limit the costs for the rest of their family have any of the monies to make any money out of any you know. Online reviews that people might be doing that kind of thing whether it's neat nephews nieces god kids grandkids whoever it is but more realistically are they bringing home the bacon in any other kind of way you know. My 15 year old daughter did color her hair pink put it on Instagram and very very excited she's now 800 followers Wow I think she's got some way to go before she's a kid fluence a major brand Ilya you represent L'Oreal Oh whoever she she bought. It From I'm just hoping I'm just hoping it comes out before beginning of school I don't think she's I don't think but now with the summer job for for many Louise it's much too. For them when we were children really you know I started paper out when I was 13 but nowadays they can't really start work until the 16th but don't worry the day she turned 6 thing she'll be out by looking for help a competitive world I'm sure if there's one thing we know is the 1st opportunity. Should be doing that yes so let's know whether it's flogging lemonade on the front lawn or is that just an American dream that I see or know of locally and wouldn't you go so somebody is doing it less know what the kids you know a doing this summer to make a bit of money and does any of it involve any brand deals online Probably not but we're going to be delving into the world of kid Florence's let's go into a more traditional world and a much bigger business then probably a lot of these influences put together the U.K.'s biggest bank now is in line to have a new boss H.S.B.C. Is going to be replacing John Flint Now this is a term you hear in sporting circles by mutual agreement that never sounds good Louise when you've only been in the job for 18 months. Both both sides equally happy Well let's get the latest anyway from CORISH move as one business correspondent joins us live from Singapore this morning morning to your charisma good morning as we always keep a very close eye on H.S.B.C. Clearly very important in the U.K. Because it's the biggest bank here but you know it's a massive bank globally in Asia and when a new boss is put in charge it's a huge job or one of the biggest financial services jobs in the world so what is going on this morning yeah you know when you look at the companies results by some 16 percent 15.8 percent to be exact in profits in the 1st 6 months of the year they've done remarkably well analysts are saying given the global economic environment at the moment you do have to ask yourself why would you at that point then decide to reshuffle management and get rid of somebody he's only been there for 18 months and by. Largest man managed to deliver decent results the bank says and John Flint the C.E.O. Said in a statement today that the reason for this is that it is a challenging global environment ahead and we all know that right you know you've got U.S. Interest rates now trending lower there's the uncertainty of Brecht's it that the bank pointed out as well but it's what not been said and list say that makes for far more of an interesting suggestion as to why perhaps Mr Flynt is leaving on this sort of mutual understanding with the board which in plain speak means perhaps he was asked to leave although that's certainly not what the bank says the reason for this from what I've been told is because Mr Flint's big focus was the Chinese market now in the last 18 months or so it's run into some trouble the bank with the Chinese government according to reports because it was due to internal e-mails that H.S.B.C. Had that led to the extradition request by the United States of hallways chief financial officer main one Joe you'll remember we've talked about Huawei a lot on this program and it's because of the Department of Justice's investigations where they accessed some of H.S.B.C.'s internal emails according to these reports that then led to the subsequent extradition request so that angered Beijing and the suggestion is and certainly you know these are just suggestions but that may have been one of the reasons behind Mr Flint's departure from H.S.B.C. That's extraordinary I was looking struggle over the previous Street executive was there from 2010 to 2018 years which is much more normal 10 year than 18 months and I also note today the fears about trade wars still overhanging Asian markets that the Chinese one is down to a 10 year alone. Against the dollar which is quite extraordinary Also Bloomberg reporting that China has all state Boyer's to stop buying U.S. Farm products so there's a lot of this still and this is coming out the H.S.B.C. Results concerns about the China U.S. Trade war significantly ramping up since last Thursday when Trump essentially slapped Thompson Tyrus on another 300000000000 dollars with the Chinese goods Yeah and I think that's very much the big concern for big organizations big banks like H.S.B.C. And other big global M N C's that are have a foot in China and elsewhere in the world it is the most important market for a lot of companies out there today and given the fact that what you see is not just sort of hostilities in terms of rhetoric you know this is now translating into actual action from September the 1st if nothing happens between now and then the U.S. Administration will be putting a 10 percent tariff on $300000000000.00 worth of Chinese goods that means there will be tariffs on everything China sells to the United States now in the past what we've seen in terms of the yuan as you mentioned is that China is typically allowed the yuan remember it's a controlled currency it's managed by the Chinese Central Bank they were allowed it to be just slightly under that 7 level analysts are saying that now that the yuan has passed that and is weakening against the U.S. Dollar it's a signal from the Chinese central bank that they don't believe that there will be a trade deal between the U.S. And China any time soon and that they are using the weaker you one to help boost exports of Chinese goods to the United States but obviously this is going to President Trump again who has categorically said in the past that China manipulates its currency to benefit Chinese company so. We talk about these these major global issues for a big bank like H.S.B.C. For. For many customers around the world they'll just be the bank that they put their money in and they rely on to look after their money so how does a list stuff and changes at the top trickle down into and I just basic customer Well you know to be honest at the sort of at the very retail level it doesn't necessarily change much for and H.S.B.C. Customers but you've got to look at this in terms of strategy what the bank is saying is that the outlook for the global environment is challenging right now and I think what that tells us not just as H.S.B.C. Custom is if you indeed happen to be one but also just as participants if you will of the global economy that the future is pretty it looks pretty grim and you know you've got the U.S. China trade war on the one hand now it may be just these 2 superpowers having it out with one another but actually that has a knock on effect on global growth and we've talked about that as well with the International Monetary Fund out grading forecast for everybody you've got the uncertainty around BRICS it you know I mean I'm sure that's a topic on the program that happens every day but the fact that she's making it into you know statements by corporations not just H.S.B.C. Means that the people who decide about strategy for big organizations big banks that make up the global economy are extremely worried and that should worry the rest of us Krishnan of us want to thank you very much for joining us this morning you're the 1st person to mention breaks on the program as well today 2520 I don't know we got 9 minutes into our. Thank you career. Business correspondent there to bring you not die on Heathrow we're going to be delving into the issues around it a little bit later but Britain's busiest airport had cancelled $177.00 flights it's about one in 7 departures after the you know what union had rejected a pay off the but after the strike was called off for today you may well think that's great news British Airways has said it will now reinstate flights. From Heathrow on Monday to today but there's a lot of knock on effect a lot of disruption to air Canada said it still planning to operate its full flight should draw on Monday Air Lingus is confirmed it will reinstate flights as well as he had a ways but Virgin Atlantic has not cancelled flights will continue with its plan to move them from Heathrow to Gatwick so make sure you're checking with your airlines whichever it might be that you do to fly with today if you're leaving from Heathrow there may be delays there's knock on effect there may be different different rules and regulations in place airlines are saying that impose restrictions on hand luggage to speed up boarding passengers advised to arrive at least 3 hours before long call departures and to be for short or going to be discussing all the issues around why that strike may well have happened today was called off and white still looks set to happen tomorrow airline strike port workers strikes all of this all to do with pay we'll have a chat about what's going on this morning in the summer season yes and what a crucial time saver getting caught up with as well let us know 85058 hash tag wake up to money we'd like your thoughts on what your kids are doing to make money this summer Simon says My 16 year old daughter started her own craft business selling on it's a couple of 100 quid today did including a sale in Austria very impressive Simon and to your daughter so that's one way so he's making money online some children are doing pretty well a so-called influencers or you know let's call them what they are kid fluence is a personal finance reporter Felicity Hanna has been looking into this morning to Phyllis Good morning I'm particularly enjoying how every time you say Kid fluency you wince a bit I think how many what's the phrase for Lynne portmanteau manto many of these are around you know you got bricks it from directed to Kim for kids Florence is but you tell us what is what's going on and yes the influences kid Florence is off and you choose they're making money through adverts 3 brand partnerships and it's particularly taking off with children. Because the customers are online we know that kids spend more time online now than watching T.V. The off com research shows that and that's influencing the kinds of jobs that they want when they grow up study from the affiliate network when dot com polled parents and it found that influence and you choose and now among the top 5 jobs kids want when they grow up I spoke to these children about it so he said I want to be you to fill in a girl because some people and money for making your videos I have. Each and what do you want to do on the cheap shaping place line I want to be You Tube So I want to show the people I help these and inspire them to do them as well was that show people the slime was out he said it yes she wants to make slime videos that's a big a big You Tube for well yes my children have made their own slime and they made their own videos though Louise coming the most like they watch the video of making slime and then I had to buy the ingredients to make their insulin who needs topics in the world of investments and markets their ways when we could just talk about how we got IMO Many are your kids. Anyway but if you front page of quite a few papers today pensions this is it's a big report pay some strong words knocking around about how those that manage our pensions treatise and charges yet the front page of The Daily Tele Telegraph pension pot ripoff fees could wipe out savings it's on page $4.00 of the daily Mera $2000000000.00 pounds a year pension pinch rogue advisors misinform overcharge and make a living whipping off savers and if you look at Frank Field who is the committee it's his committee's report on this we are not convinced any part of the pension industry school was even above hall marks making a living off the hard earned savings of pensioners It is pretty brutal well with this look at the markets Chris Rouse the chief investment officer at St James's Place Chris you have a lot of money a pension is money of clients up and down the U.K. How do you react to this report that is one really damning for your industry that fees aren't transparent and particularly the impact on client wealth from the fees . Well we welcome the any idea of transparency new in the industry we've always tried to be very transparent about our fees it's very clear what half the show Julie is that so we will charge Lance $1.00 of the half percent plus the external manager fee for for where the investments are are. Which for managers actually managing those investments on a day to day basis I thought it was St James's Place funds or yes they are sometimes place but they are managed by 3rd party fund managers OK And what about fees for going into you in fees for coming out of and so if there's additional. Work that's required for example in if a client is talking about a pension transfer the may be a an initial advice fee. The is part of the negotiation between the advice of and the clan tenet of the for accepting the funds as well well the the there is no it's what we describe as an early withdrawal charge so that if the clients that So if the client withdraw with removes themselves from the investment in the 1st 6 years that investment then the could be an early with your charge up to so goes out and under 6 percent if the client goes out in the 1st year it's a 6 percent charge but the average tenure of client Syngenta place it's 14 years so one and a half percent fee plus a fee for managing the fund which can be another one half a percent are breached the A 3038.37 percent OK so it's almost a 2 percent plus a fee for going in and plus up to 6 percent fee for going out just. Some of these are combined together Louise it's and that's why that's why we welcome these discussions about transparency because we want to make it we want to make it clear we're not we're not trying to hide what our what our fees are so if you look at the just some looking at the impact that fees have. So there again this is in the report and it's quoted today by The Daily Telegraph 50 grand in your pension if you make the stock market say the fund goes up 5 percent a year over 20 years that will go to $83000.00 pounds a one percent fee take it down to $60.00 a 2 percent fee which from what you've just explained could easily be a Saint James's Place he takes it down to $40.00 grand so out of an $82.00 grand fund a fund manager likes and James his place could take more than half of the total pot is that fair to say this well I think there's a couple of things here firstly that if a client makes their own choice about where to invest their money does not take advice from a company like likes and joins his place and it may not offering them the whole market you only offer them your funds so it's not like being I.F.A. When they're looking at tens of thousands of funds basically you put your clients into St James's funds yes but we have access to every From manager in the world in fact we think that we would argue very strongly that we have access to a broader range of from managers the lots of other independent financial advisors in the U.K. Because we are a very sizable organization has reach not just in the U.K. But outside the U.K. So more than half of our fund managers are based in North America and that's definitely not true for a lot of companies that are a lot of independent financial advisors they're based in the U.K. Just for contacts. I pay point 3 percent on my Eissa and I pay point 6 percent for my pay in terms of a new management charge but I assure you I don't and I assume you're not receiving advice for that and my husband through his final salary scheme pays point 3 percent that makes your fees of at least 2 percent extremely high are you thinking of bringing them down but as I just said I you're not receiving advice. For those for the way in which you're investing we offer our clients a full holistic Wealth Management Service which includes the investment part of it so that's the big fundamental difference and that's what transparency is really really important ways because people there's a lot of people who don't understand the difference between self invested pension schemes where the clip where the end investor is making those decisions and where that advice is being paid by an individual who are still under go very soon very substantial amount of professional qualifications before their license to be able to give advice of course Ralph thank you quick look at the week ahead we've got results from Intercontinental Hotel Group on Choose day just promise to crack down on plastic by doing away with bathroom miniatures that's a little controversial Domino's Pizza group also reporting results G.'s day Wednesday we have off jam announces an update to the energy price cap level that has been hitting the big 6 energy suppliers quite so hard Thursday we get results from Sydney world and one more thing we have Disney results out tomorrow now after those Netflix figures where they're subscriber growth disappointed in the share price fell 17 percent everybody is going to be looking at Disney because they are going to announce their streaming business so this is something to watch out Disney's domination of the box office and its plans to take on Netflix or be center stage when it reports quarterly results tomorrow that from the Guardian. And different control measures in place but that's a quick and yet very valuable to us but I wouldn't put much of a market for it 2nd so what are you seeing as being the reasons behind this them what's the talk amongst pharmacies I mean it seems to be organized crime which is responsible for a lot of this and that there must be a 2nd hand market for it overseas to say you know it's very there is something really to it but it just it doesn't really seem possible that it can happen and it in seconds I mean all you can some of those 50000 pounds of equipment which you have put one of the machines to was out of action for 5 weeks before it was fully functional again right and so then the knock on effect business was the costs involved. And so you didn't show up to the the machines really should suffer not thought of it and then if you meet Michel pick up the tab but for us the actual It was I brought to the peak time of us that we were busy at the track in protecting the crops from disease and so we need to be out there spreading the crops but actually because the machines had the G.P.S. Equipment stolen we couldn't use a spry on the back of the machine so we were we were 3 days before actually bit which is very probably I'm so suddenly it's got financial repercussions which go way beyond the equipment you grow wheat peas and beans I think. One of the big stories of the last 2 months is the extraordinary weather we've been having what impact is having on you and we should be very lucky here and cowshed are going credibly dry the beginning of June but some Jane was a very common month so as we had about 90 minutes as of right which would be above average and we've had plenty of sunshine so we're into the swings of harvest now and actually we're reporting all seeing very good yields in the field so we've been I mean it's been incredibly up and down year I'm a lot of extremes have been broken very very dry winter but the crops have grown very well and the. I would say they're above average in the field so how much are you up compared to say last year. Last year was a disaster so we were we were cutting Spring Valley last year that was a. 5060 percent of average this year I would say we're 20 percent on average good set up on average so it really is for a very good crops that are in the field and so how do you manage that as a business that. It's incredibly volatile and there are tons. Because obviously we had a base in the last year and then we had a very very very dry period. With the worst cross whatever going all spring probably some of the best of us so it's pretty huge pressure on the markets at a time of great uncertainty. But with and without the shuttle you say a time of great uncertainty Tom what's the great uncertainty for you well for us it's the it's the trade surrounding bricks and I mean we will be exporting a lot of barley a lot of wheat and we desperately need a trade it would be to enable us to continue doing that without our ship place and so we're leaving no day October 31st what's the impact for you well November to try the U.K.'s biggest export market at the moment there's no export business being booked out for know that so for the I Will sector it would be huge to have throughout the country but how do you know already without that it would potentially have very very large implications Well Tom I think in a nutshell have many ministers but she they're the the things you have to deal with the new business is reflective of you know a lot of business owners having to deal with the ups and downs of various parts the business thank you for joining us this morning Tom broad sure their crops farming culturist in Essex so Louise start a year 50000 pounds worth of equipment sold then actually did amidst all the weather he has a decent year this year can put a particular compared to last year and now he's got the prospect of leaving European Union with that Delonte over the 31st and huge uncertainty around the I mean that's what people who've been in the these businesses around the country this is what they're dealing with every single day isn't it. It's kind of big decisions so the whole derivatives market futures and forwards being sort of developed out of the agricultural sector that farmers need to know or for some of their corpse it would be very helpful for farmers to sort of sell their quote at the beginning of the season and know they were going to get a certain price because as you heard very massively And so the derivatives market actually came about from that demand from farmers many years ago hundreds of years ago there you go a little bit is like a little a little bit of that I'm sure history for in a few 100 years time never send Weikel to money you know this this program still go in 200 years on you and I won't be. Without make you will know. Just recapping a few things in the papers the last few days Mike Ashley Louise. Never mind all the Sports Direct stuff that we talked about in the last couple of weeks and I'm delaying results now in pole position so say in the Guardian to snap up Jack Wills I mean I don't know what investors. Because I think most people it will do it by. Mike Ashley retail shopping it's not even a spree it's a shopping spree frenzy Well I think I'm a but will the does everybody else is that it would seem to me to be a way of trying to remove the heat that he's been receiving following the. The criticism of the fine that he's got from I think was a Belgium government was that. And the mess that the business is in so I think it's just a deflective strategy to turn to take the market focus away from the the more fundamental problems of his business Louise anything else in the paper before we crack on Sports Direct is being pursued by Belgian authorities over $605000000.00 pound fine and the anti Yes there's another one as well this is the Danish they're clearly scrambling around for tax this is in the towing means apparently the Danish government is after just 8400000000 pounds in back taxes when just the moved its headquarters from Copenhagen to London what Denmark say is still owes a lot of money in back taxes and it's not just Belgium just update us when they're all e-sports experts after Friday special you can catch the podcast there search wake up $28.00 subscriber to business of sports special looking at the world of a sports the 29000 feet a World Cup yes we do want to bow out on Friday has been won by otherwise known as Mohammed Harkness's a German who outperformed 31 of the players 2 into underground I should let you know as well spud You like potato potato business went bust over the weekend. Sad news a lot of people one of those brands a lot of people have fond memories of him over many many years but I don't know that that business in trouble 300 jobs lost 37 branches left went bust without warning now on to his throat so there could still be lots of disruption in Heathrow this morning a 2 day strike by airport were. This was planned but today's action has been suspended at the last minute while talks continue over a pay deal but Tamara strike still on the cards and there have been 177 flights canceled today and tomorrow so that one point is roughly one in 7 departures but this is why if you've got a flight from a throw you need to be checking British Airways says it will now reinstate flights from Heathrow today Air Canada said it's planning to operate full flight Shojo Monday Air Lingus confirmed that it will reinstate flights he had airways as well and the company's I did industrial action plan for Jews day the 6th of August is still in force but he had committed to operate in all services until a final decision made by unions and this is airport workers involving engineers firefighters security staff and Louise what's it all about as usual it's pay unites members voted by almost nothing to want to reject Heathrow's pay off or Heathrow says its 7.3 percent increase in pay over $2.00 and a half years unite say it offers little above the original offer of 3 pounds 75 extra a day for most workers and about 2 and a half 1000 planning to strike on both days now it's not just Heathrow OK There have been ballots of workers that gap wake which by the way they have said they're going to they voted for an industrial action although that's only $130.00 security workers it was also a ballot at Stansted with easyjet although that has now been called off and of course on top of that we've got the threatened British Airways pilot strike as well so we are driving on holiday we're not flying very good Louise or as. If they are but there's got photograph in The Daily Mail as well sweet photograph of a family 2 kids clutching Paddington Bear stuck at Heathrow they're all smiling at the moment I wonder how long the smiles will last well let's hear from Paula clover . From London meant to fly to Spain with his family tomorrow he's fed up with the timing of the strike I think it's so selfish because families have been saving up for months this is their one time a year where they go on holiday with the kids maybe business travel was probably leveled off a bit this is a busy time for families it's selfish right so it's selfish says one traveler lots of workers of course will think very differently Sharon Livingston is founder of the travel magazine morning to Sharon Hi good morning what's the mood in the travel industry a fight worth battling on for for Heathrow Airport workers you know we been at the edge of our feet so really has been quite a roller coaster because every day it's something and you thought it meant his coming out and yesterday I did think to myself oh maybe they're going to do some nasty each talks to try and get there so shouldn't thank goodness they did it it's not good for anyone this is high fees and you can't take your kids at a school during term time so the only time families can travel together without any any problems is that during the summer holidays but that's the whole point now Sharon isn't it the idea is for maximum impact so are being listened to. Other workers being listened Yeah. I think they are being listened to him in that. All yesterday and all today with. The arbitration company. That means they are being listened to they Nobody wants this strike and everyone wants the best for their own agenda so will all we can do now is see what's going to happen I mean he's throw preemptively negotiated with the alliance to have some cancellation so out of the $1177.00 we're going to be canceled now that has now turned a new landscape because now they're reinstating that and. Destruction Yeah and on that reinstatement Sharon just finally sorry we're going in a time a little bit but for those that we're told it's canceled my different plans and then their flight gets reinstated What rights do you have to cop the compensation. Well it's a little bit of a gray area right now because these these strikes they're not strikes by the airline staff they're strikes by the Heathrow. Stuff so that means it could be deemed to say extraordinary circumstances but I do know that the airlines are trying very hard to put people into different flights if they have been canceled. And so can't get on because it could be that not all flights stated Sharon thank you very much for joining us this morning Sharon Livingston the founder of the Travel Magazine dot net let us know stay tuned 5 Live breakfast last night if you caught up in any of the disruption at all of the next couple of days let's not have it is how the information flow is we also want to know this morning what your kids are up to they some how they earn some money to make ebay easier for the household holiday club for night millionaires maybe are they on You Tube and Instagram making a fortune as influences the last one maybe slightly less likely was not impossible is what to be looking at this morning morning Chief less Hello again rise of the kid fluence. So you get the latest of course research shows that kids are spending more time on the Internet than they are watching T.V. And You Tube is the website of choice 80 percent of all kids in the U.K. Have used it and that's influencing even the choice of careers study showed that 2 out of the top 5 jobs kids want when they grow up is influence or you cheaper now can you actually make money out of it though a few can a few are making a fortune some are making quite good pocket money and these are kids who wait until they're adults and then starting their own so you cheap channels they're doing it now while the children because where this custom is they're advertising and they're making money through adverts place alongside their videos but also brand partnerships and a few are making some serious money I mean kids have been going viral online almost as long as cats Does anyone remember this. Amazing it works you don't need the visuals either their teeth. I think it's part of everybody's kind of internet history what is it with Fenton and the dog chasing the deer across remark Yeah so that was Charlie bit my finger when I was that was a 2007 or one of the sort of most viral most successful you cheap clips ever that was never meant to be marketed it wasn't planned as a hit just a family video but it's made some serious cash I spoke to that dad Howard Davies car and asked exactly how much his prototype kid fluence is made though it had $40000000.00 views before we even applied for a You Tube partnership or for trappers and clip it's probably made about a $1000000.00 and the majority of the money was put aside for the boys' education so they benefited from a good start in life and that's pretty much how we view the money should be you know I guess they're not kid Florence's in terms of influences A's days that they're not being marketed that was 12 years ago I'm sorry but but Chris and I were a golf I mean really on their dollar is fees as well not not just advertising that isn't a still missing amount of money but no plan that was complete look completely but I got to tell you to the market those that it does it does and some parents are really working at their kids they're really helping their kids market themselves and that's causing some real success for a few so Louise is a 9 year old kid limits up in England and she makes not you know I mean I think I mean she makes these toy unboxing videos they're really popular kind of each content she's got about 10000 subscribers on the cheap and how mom Donna helps her make the videos so I ask them how much she's earning she was monitor I was in the mom full time which means you can put on your video and get paid like a let's see Mike I think about a 1000 pounds for the month we stuck in of a pail. And brands and I would ask send us to put out we went to Florida see months ago which we used some of the money towards that holiday and some spending money. Listen I've got to love it save that for her as well I'm not lying I'm nearly 10 and my You Tube channel is cool you know we see you know corn puff Yeah I actually don't I enjoy doing what I do I like to look in the toys I like it she enjoys a life free choice Well I think. It's like someone you like promote some just so like show you all what's interesting Louise clearly has a better understanding the most about how this all works who got Britney Bagnall with us now joins us from Canada She's the founder of cherry pick which is an agency that connects brands with You Tube biz she's also head of kid fluence super awesome it's the name of a tech company that works to make the Internet safe for children Britney Good morning to you good morning good evening there in Canada thank you thank you President know what don't worry you down either we've got particularly for that just wonder Britney I mean with one of your hats making the internet safer for children and the other one an agency that connects brands with You Tube is it to a lot of people it will sound like those 2 things do not tally encouraging kids to try and make money out of filming themselves doing something upon it on the Internet. And I think where the real where the real crux of it is is the fact that there are tons of kids and we heard at the beginning the program where they said that you know kids nowadays in school are saying this is what I'm aspiring to be you know the ceiling's cool kids on the Internet that are doing something they love every single day and so interest is there from these kids to want to do this so and there's a lot of cooling creative parents out there who started doing it not with the money in mind it was really just a creative outlet so after a while that's just sort of what came to happen was that there's going to be a few who make it big and hit it here and then there's going to be a few that just kind of are doing this for fun you know on a random Sunday night but so obviously this is an industry that that spurred I guess from nothing and so at the end of the day there are kids in families there who are making a big who are attracting the attention from brands and resort to stepped in in a position to say you know this is happening for a long time we steered clear of You Tube because it is a platform for 13 class. But we realized that it was happening it wasn't happening in the right way so there was still so much gray area around working with young kids and working with family channels on You Tube We're working with brands who weren't disclosing that they were being paid from an advertiser to you know scream and shout about a product so it's really misleading to a lot of the younger audience to watch this and think like oh my gosh this kid actually loves law surprised but it was like well hang on a minute how much to say this I mean that is a criticism isn't to any even experienced You Tube is get it wrong so I think it was that well a who earlier this year have said actually I'm going to explicitly state that I am paid for I think it was a a world not tell a day post that the advertising standard Agency criticized tone possibly even falling for so as something that I'm that even experienced ones get wrong 100 percent and finally and that's that's not all that the inference is. Problem because it was just sort of such a gray area for such a long time was they had created these You Tube channels they made a huge overnight and then all of us and brands were knocking on their door and they were like yeah I like your brand like yeah if you want to send me preprocess product I'll talk about it so it just sort of really did happen organically and I don't think that there was any malice in the way that it happened I don't think anybody was trying to pull the role or anybody else's eyes it was just that it wasn't as regulated as traditional T.V. So no one could come in and say hey if you're going to do a paper motion there needs to be text onscreen there needs to be this verbiage before you say it whereas now the N.S.A. And the F.T.C. In the U.S. Have massively stepped up which is great and we work really closely with them and we create a lot of guidelines for young kids to really decode what the adult language is within those organizations to understand what's expected and that's really important is that Britney we're going to leave it there I'm afraid but when I speak here again about this interesting topic thank you Britney back know that I found it cherry pick thank you for your messages today that sent from like a to many loves to talk about breakfast is happening. In Lincoln and constant grind B.B.C. Radio Lincoln. Volunteering Scott also with your breakfast on B.B.C.
