Radio Les Day It's 4 minutes past 6 and I don't know but I can't quite I'm not sure I can get on board with it being September chloride day what has happened to this year I'm not going to scare you but we're only 3 months away from you know well we're going to talk about that let's talk about the weather in. That it's going to be pretty dry today some sunny spells just the small chance of a light shower feeling cooler than yesterday though and there is still that breeze around temperatures today getting to 7 degrees Celsius is going to stay draw it tonight feeling a little bit cooler overnight though now and after midnight we'll see some cloud drift in so I think you can get down to 6 degrees Celsius it's not been down there for a while as it so they go that is what we've got door today we will have a. Weather forecast from you know the proper bald a little bit later on this. Friday. When the road is cold. You. Know in. College. This is. Where we go. Where do you go. The wonderful take that everlasting here on B.B.C. Radio Leicester have you had a good way you can be had a good one I hope so it's been kind of good for May own the ways that I managed to pack the kids back up to school this week. That was a good day I can tell you when they went back to school but then I met all these other mums and I was so it feel really bad say were crying saying how much they were going to miss them now they were back at school and I was like OK maybe I should just into tears there is well at the school gates but you know all the happier at school the happier school I'm going to say that some was. Going to be you to pull story from the greenbelt festival that's coming up after they say this is the kingdom choir you remember this from the wedding ready. We. Know. From. Just. Such a gorgeous version of it gets me every time I hear it's 13 minutes past 6 So last weekend of course was the greenbelt festival Maybe you went maybe you're all sorted now you had a bit of a fantastic time but you're back to normal that but there were loads of 1st timers among all those thousands of people who baked out that the festival last weekend is weird isn't it look at the weather now thinking about how hot it was last weekend amongst the old friends so Rita Robinson in Clare Thomas who both live in the hall reaches Jewish and plays Christian in their Greenbelt experiences quite an impression I really have no idea what to expect in Greenville I expected a lot of sock wearing sandals Kristine's I think I'm perfectly honest and you know what everyone has to say the nicest person I've ever met they were all absolutely lovely Adams they were got fire arms they were like people with like biker jackets never thing it was a complete mixture of people and it was fantastic the church service around a tree that was about an outside church service serving a tree and it's about this church service in nature which is really good and also the big communion service so I have no idea how many people are that there with so many people and it was really really hard on the services about Christmas and there are people with Christmas hats and there were camels and it was just so exciting there I was walking up we were a bit late it was maybe at half past 10 and were walking up and suddenly I'm just like Whoa there are camels 3 actual real live camels. I don't know what are my great I mean commute. And in there a camel is them a Christmas jumpers the wise men like it was just insane it was also 34 degrees but then I just thought well you know what that's kind of like Bethlehem or wherever Christmas would have been it would have been whole it wouldn't be winter and it was it was really it was so interesting that they chose I went way to spontaneously I only put it about 3 days before I went had no idea really what to expect and although I kind of expected to get a lot for sessions and learn lots and be quite serious I actually spent a lot of time chatting with friends and meeting other people and I went to comedy and I went to music and I went to things so I thought about politics and I also went to so much additional things that I tried lots of different things I tried to Quaker should never done before and I try some taizé about. The female characteristics of God and I just things that I would never you know I don't know we talk about Sunday morning and it was OK to ask those questions and to find out different things and really comfortable to talk to other people about all sorts of . Agree with half of what was said but it was really nice fail to think about it and also questions and have conversations that I wasn't happy is it isn't something I'd ever really had of the full impact that it had at the head of it so it's not something that I just don't want going to get a green belt I was offered through what I went through from Judaism and we will offer tickets to a partner organization that we work with to give to Greenbelt and I was like This is a bit I mean random is the only way I think of sort of I find Let's go why not the kids with a festival we go to music festivals all the time I was like this will be interesting this will be different and also friend kind of was going who's a rabbi with her husband and kids and I thought oh there's something nice like when spending time together and they're very very religious has been very very religious and. They had or could not they had spoken with the organized enough fans they can range the ship but tents and Greenbelt were phenomenally welcoming they were absolutely great and I honestly had such a great time and the kids looked at it was great they had such they put such thoughts into Children and Family in teen programming so like the teens had a den that had. Now you know for days at a camping festival when no one's got a new battery and that's what your family arguments are about get all the power back and these kids have a team den to go in charge it just made everyone 5 pay I think the best day so I have him some BIA So just really losing all thought self-consciousness and singing hit him they haven't really sung with a cheery kid drinking bear the same time it was just beautiful. For me I think I had a couple of best that I went to 3 sessions are going to be quite high so I went to one called making maps of bridging the divide which my friend who's the rabbi was asked to teach which was about making maps which is the 11th bread we have a Passover and it was really interesting when it was really full I was amazed with how many Christians came to learn about it because you're talking about the history in the story of the process of a meal as they were doing this massacre demonstration so that was pretty and I went to a scriptural reasoning session that had a Muslim a couple of gee whiz and Christians that and it was all about conflict within religion and that was fascinating I learnt a lot about Christianity and how Christians understand Jesus and which I've never known and I thought most in theology I didn't know the stuff that was brilliant and then my last session I went to was the evening entertainment and it was called profit sharing and it was 2 comedians a Muslim and ultra orthodox Jew and it was absolutely hilarious so I was really really impressed with the diversity and also it was a rebel. The mill job. The tone of our writing come. The old man writes. The master Arai would run. To kill him didn't. Touch her up. See. Eastenders. The torn up tomorrow night at 8 on B.B.C. One. B.B.C. It's coming up before 7 o'clock oh I had such a bowl this week I got to me the amazing the lovely Jonnie Peacock double gold winning Paralympic champion and he it was so nice you know when you meet people and you think I wonder what they're going to be like because a lot of them you know what they can be like he was just lovely We had a situation ever it was in like a supermarket café Well while we were doing our interview and he's got the gold medals and everything in this lot people have enough riots all around as it was very peculiar but it was lovely to chat so and you can hear that before 7 o'clock this morning don't forget you can call me this morning if you want to 101 i Phone I know what it cost you a penny that or you could just do this text is now on I use one trip to 3 stodgy old text with the word. This age. 5 researching your family history it's big these days is now I'm really enjoying the current series of who do you think you all there's been some really interesting stories on that one but you might not realize that one of the biggest the best websites for tracking down family background information has been put together by volunteers the members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints well later in the month the group organizing an event which gives you know anybody who's interested the chance to find out a bit more about that background they've also got the bitch L C F C ambassador. As a special guest whose background they've been working on the organizer of this event is Clive Langley and he brought a couple of American experts Steve and Beth Morrison into the studio with him to have a chat today boundaries he was particularly keen to find out why family history is so we so the church well we've been here for months and we would have been here when we complete our mission $23.00 much paint a little bit of background I was born in Buffalo New York raised there ended up on the West Coast where I met Steve we've been married 33 years and so about 14 years well we lived in California for a long time then 14 years ago we moved to Provo Utah to be near our daughter one of our children and grandchildren of course so that's where we've been ever since how is the time in the U.K. Going so far what have you what it what have you been up to what have you managed to achieve 1st of all we love it here we're also learning how to speak English. Doing pretty well. We do a variety of things as far as family history goes we don't whenever we can get the opportunity of course we help people with that we also visit members in our congregation and we join with. The younger missionaries when they visit people who are interested in our church and its theology and we help teach lessons and explain exactly what will you what we believe in why how important. Family history bits to the work that you do that well it's extremely important 1st of all we. Believe that families are so vital it's and we do everything we can to strengthen our families and we believe family history is a tool for that purpose but we can learn from our ancestors we feel it's very important to keep a record of journal. Of our lives and to pass those down to our posterity so that they can learn from our mistakes from our successes we explain to those who are not members of our church or are interested in why we do family history the reasons which we do we believe in what at all good Christians believe in life after death brought possible if you will. To the Saviors atonement and he has told us in this set forth in the scriptures it doesn't matter which branch of Christianity you born to that we need to be baptized What about people who never were baptized we believe in doing proxy baptisms for the dead so that they in their spirits can make the decision about again have the opportunity to sit where they want to be baptized so why do we do family history work to find out ancestors and bring to them the possibility of eternal life is they call a large congregation in this area what what what was the membership like hearing less than 3 congregations covering the area there's a 4th congregation in love as well and so this is probably last year probably $5000.00 members let's just get leave the event now for a moment because you're putting on the see this event in labor tell us a bit about what you're hoping to achieve a Mattie OK so the blade given each social hole which is on last road and we've got a number of speakers come along Stephen breath all to the speakers we've also got a dry cold Keith Penfold who runs family which is a church is a family history website and we've also got somebody. Will be very familiar to regular us the listeners Allen the birch birch you know. Birch and I have been friends for many many years now and over those years we've been helping him with his family history and we'll be talking a little bit about his family history and also about his life with lost the city's playing career and use his life after football and also outside of football is he a church member No no he's not a church he's not a church member he likes the he likes what he calls the happy water and. Have you found anything interesting about it is going to reveal who you're going to come along to you know I was going to say that but. Yeah we have got some very interesting very interesting background from him must come back to Beth and to to Steve I just wondered generally about your about your town how how do you find people because you know we've all seen comedy programs where people see the young the young lads coming down the street and they think we're going to get a ring on the doorbell any moment let's let's pretend we're out or something like that I mean have you found a great welcome or do you find there is a little bit of resistance sometimes if you begin to think about preaching or missionary work or whatever we don't go door to door or we are just real friendly wherever we go we always have our badges on and we interact with whoever will speak to us without our with her. Zeal you know we're interested in getting to know all people and being friendly and if they're interested in in our message it's obvious who we are but we've been well very well received by everybody isn't that interesting loads of stuff I didn't know so they'll be more about that event. With Dave Andrews when he does his show Sunday supplement from 12 o'clock today. That. Much. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank. You. Mary Mary here on A.B.C. Radio les a little later in the show we will be hearing from the former Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron Now you remember. So what got him so I want to go to into a big pickle let's face it really pretty much his fight got in the way of his career when his position on him. Was questioned again and again in the media will be very interesting to talk to him he has got an autobiography out it's called a better one but she's not really spoken about what happened to him before we will be catching up with him after 8 o'clock this morning. Just enough key B.B.C. Radio left to Hello welcome along to Sunday breakfast we're going to get you Sunday off to a fantastic start now here's something really interesting Have you ever been on a pilgrimage Why did you go abroad maybe well hundreds of people are arriving back in Leicester while arrive back in Leicester this week after that pilgrimage to Mecca the birthplace of Islam. But it's something that is becoming increasingly more popular. Within this country as a way of reconnect saying and. Walking and just really thinking about your spirituality Bridgette Black has been out to find more about a very local pilgrims rights in the south of the county which goes for 2 weeks them . I've consistently since church which was the scene of a gruesome crime in the mid 19th century father Philip O'REILLY It's like a hair restorer church bell middle of the field because it's in the rural hunting grounds of the royal family and friends in the 9th century the most in Prince Whiston was Martin Whiston was going to be the king of the mass unions he had a relative who wanted to marry his mother who was queen at that point but it was with too close a relationship to be lawful in church law so Whiston refused to give permission is uncool was enraged about this and arranged for Whiston to be killed when he was hunting with his friends in those hunting grounds restored Whiston was known for his holy life must soon acclaimed as assigned and so pilgrims started to go the church was erected and people went there to be close to Whiston to seek his prayers and to be close to God and to ask God to give them strength to be firm in their face in the way it is and Mr Moss. Pilgrims' followed suit western this way. Is the route from the place where some wisdom was martyred. To Repton Indaba share where his body was placed in a monastery on the way his funeral procession stopped overnight in Wixon and a small chapel was built to commemorate this event so that's why these 2 churches with the same name so close. Well I haven't got time to do the pilgrimage Whitefoot but all trace the route as far as I can along today's roads. The route by foot Harcourt and the fields we see to Gleneagles golf club and I bet the route crosses the golf course so be careful and then tracks through fields running parallel to need not lying I can't go that way I'm in the car so for me this is the end of my following some with since Way Now there's some real myths about West and 2 in Wister Yes there's the great legend about the restored grass which is said to sprout around the time of the. Early June said to look very much like human hair some people would say it is human hair out of the feel of America's character about and you know somebody he's actually seen it yes a person I knew well I mean he's now going to be with the Lord but he was absolutely sure he'd seen him not the kind of person that you go off on a flight of and. May think the way is still warped by those here in the parish by those who come to remember some Whiston. Mean Well hundreds of parishioners from with flatly go on a different pilgrimage each year to Walsingham in Norfolk Richo this the 5 of us had a vision of the Virgin Mary and both assuring to her and since the middle ages it's been one of the most important pilgrimages in the U.K. A Many people walk the last mile to the shrine in mostly I'm barefoot Ben is 13 he's been on that poker match quite often seen as you arrive at the shrine it's so much fun and peaceful when you feel around go out the holy mio if you do it better for it can be quite challenging. It's going to be this is like a full what she seen inside sudden joy when you step in the door and it's always so quiet unless you're on the children's beverage in which case a loft music just agree out misfit do you thing you go on Moe pilgrimage Yes definitely why a pilgrimage is so important in our modern won't you think I think it's because people draw your side from the business of life to think about things that really matter they find when they do that in a holy place that God comes close to the business of journeying to the holy place opens the heart so that when they get there ready to receive God's message to be close to God in prayer to be renewed in their face. Or. Now. The new law. That's the law but. In The Wind of course that. The team in its 7 already this morning is flying past now I had a great week this week had a lovely time on breakfast with Damon and this part that I went to go to meet Pico we all know. KOCH he's a hugely successful Paralympian 2 gold medals I got to hold and he's also been a huge star at strictly a couple of years ago breaking the mold that he was the 1st. Pass person with a disability really to be a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing he made a real impact so he was in love they squeak basically it's a year till the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games so he was that to sort of raise a bit of awareness about that but also to kind of make the farms give a little something back he did this in love for Sainsbury's is an interesting place so that's why we had our interview in the cafe. And he's our go on 20 with was a game changer really wasn't 2012 which was groundbreaking Yeah I think you know it was it was incredible resource shift you know and I think the Paralympics. As a whole gets bigger every 4 years but 2012 took it only some bound to take it on so far and that was because of obviously Channel 4 everything that they were doing to push them promoted in the right way you know that was showing it as as gritty cool sport as just pure just pure sport and yeah and I think that the public loved it and yeah it really showed people the trip tension of it and it was yeah it was just it was just great to be a part of Great to see it grow and now yeah I want to keep very strange for you the back because like I think before the end people the people who know you the name Johnny. But then all of a sudden you have the poster boy they go to. You know very lucky we've got we've got a serious the best thing and you know for me one of those things like I don't even want as many men as half the guys on the train because such a successful never lovely color and then again I don't. Think it. Had to be to be such a strong. You know so to be a part of that to be a part of bringing home gold medals is incredible but you know you never for once for realize that. It's just it's more than the you know it's there is there is so many people out there when he medals and and just to be a part of it to be lucky enough to be to be one of those is yeah it's really enjoyable and you know we're just going to just run fast just run from very very fast and you know well this is the surrealist moment for me that I mean Sainsbury's café people have been there fry it was all around and I got these 2 amazing gold medals next to me I never touched a gold medal of all this is fantastic I know but would one trading to go to take I mean I didn't know it was these ones were told yes yes that you can hear this I think that's the sound of a Rio gold medal so what they've done is obviously because of some of the athletes are visually impaired we not only have Braille that's how you'll see everything about the about the medal but it also rattles and it has different noises for gold silver bronze just obviously differentiate that for for the visually impaired I think so that when they hear that they know that means go but old yeah that's the gold sound I mean we talked about sort of you raising him profile and how how you became so recognizable I mean that went to an entirely different level when you went on Strictly I didn't know. Yes it was that was a crazy time to say it worked out really well obviously I was always taking kind of 2018 as a kind of down your from myself and a year away from the sport the plan was to go on a little holidays and never let on well. Quite work out that way and it up being one of the busier years of my life but it was so much fun and for me to have the opportunity to go and be involved in strictly oversee I never thought I would it's never something I probably thought I'd be doing as I'm not exactly a dancer I think everyone who works could could see pretty good down and so I was sure about that 1st but no for me it was the ability to go on there that show and to be the 1st disabled persons to take part was in the main show which. Really important to me because I really wanted to show. My way of of what disabled people can be about and it was it was just cutting down the excuse factory for me too many times so I see. Disabled participants involved in these kind of shows and a lot of blame gets put on the on the disability and I want to go out there and just and just stop by and stop everybody looking at all these kind of things that are hard and maybe that's what's holding him back I actually don't know he can do less he can do this and that and trying to have them question which leg is is it you know when I'm wearing a pair of trousers one week you know which which leg is the disabled leg and you know then the next week coming on a joy I've been showing the blade and how cool that can be and showing all the kids out there to be proud of their disability and to be proud of who they are and to everyone to be proud of who you are but it was to go out there and to really show yet just just what we're all capable of and just going out there and just putting down that tax case I made such a massive impact and now pretty much every year since there's been there passed late as well taking part which is really exciting exactly where we had Lauren last year we've got this year so yeah it's really great that they're progressing that forward and you know it's it's great to see you know I think strickly is obviously it's opening the doors to a lot a lot as well so you know hopefully keep growing and hopefully it will be carrying on for the future you know watching the show yeah of course of course that's what I'm not going to lie that I always support pretty much O.T. And whoever she's fallen into it so I won't be putting my support and that's what gets partnered with with my supporters always with those he still friends yeah we haven't spoken to for a little while actually she's very busy at the moment isn't she she's just going OK she's she's turned into an absolute superstar Yeah she's forgotten about me now. But no she's she was great she was great I got to go watch her which I tore up so they did the strictly So how do you retained any of that dancing knowledge could YOU NEED TO ME IF YOU COULD YOU DO IT NOW and Sainsbury's cafe Crikey for you know . Teach me one thing what was the top strictly lesson that you learnt tops or. Just just it's all about commitment Yeah it's all about the looks of them are what you just go for and as long as you come in every role model will understand that it doesn't matter whether it's good you just got to have fun yeah now you go watch trying to get into some A in the café I haven't any of it. Is no such. Thing. Custom code days and how many had time to get through the front pages of the Sunday papers this morning I could probably sum it up for you it's just various different headlines about him where we are it's been quite a week hasn't it in politics so we will be addressing that they small warning after 7 o'clock week going to be talking to the Bishop of left a mountain snow about why he's put his name on a lotta cooling well for people to think about the implications of a no deal bricks it.
