Radio lades Hardcastle crags my destination for this weekend secret space is an invitation from the Russian actually to a very nice safe on the day I went wet trial so join me for that in a 2nd but let me just pick up on some we were talking about before 7 which calendars and this being the time when we buy calendars historically and of course we had from people who made their own using photos people always had one of say Yorkshire landscapes or could be wildlife or whatever else but I wondered in this digital age do you even have a thing up on the wall calendar or clock or whatever Julie says Hi Andrew just wanted to inform me that we have calendars and clocks all over the house and they will. Well different times 2 you don't get that variety with a photo. Thank you Julie really made me smile a or triple 3 leads at the start and Jill says morning Andrew I would be lost without my wall clock and I was use a paper calendar can't do with what fastener around with the phone Thank you Julian gentleman sextape want triple 3 with the word Leeds at the start of the message. 2 2 b.b.c. Radio late Good morning 10 past 7. Well hello and welcome to this weekend secret spaces the weather could have been kinder and all of us stay because we us Hardcastle crags for well a special poetry trail a sort of contemplative walk and the person behind the poems is here this is their principal some from the diversity but as for the light of Rai Andrea Nice to meet you I love Lee idea and with the rain falling it actually I thought yeah I could be that horrible it's actually really atmospheric and calm and it's going to be beautiful Yeah I think you're going to enjoy the trail a lot and we've got I think half of West Yorkshire dogs joining us as well Graeme blow is here from the National Trust as well Hello Grant I wonder if the idea well that what we wanted to do is allow people some time and some space within the woodland to think about their place within Nature really and the partnership with the university has failed and and has allowed us to open up some space for some time for people to just be in woodland just set the say with hot Castle Crags I don't mean any comforting it's one of my favorite places but for the uninitiated. It's a deep sided wooded valley set in the south pen and which is owned and run by the National Trust and we have various different ways in which you can walk through the woodland we've got a mill which is at the heart of it which is where the visitor. Cafe and toilet facilities are but there are many ways that you can try to walk through the woods looking at. The different sort of natural elements and what a nice idea that is there we are get some one mile but we're not going to take the direct route Debro way so let's walk towards where the 1st poem is you have to hunt them out or all the obvious know it's going to be obvious there's a map here at the beginning of the trail and then that shows you where it is and just a little way up the trail you'll see the 1st poem secret spaces here on b.b.c. Radio Leeds where Hardcastle crags the wonderful National Trust property just above had been bridge poet Deborah Templeton from the University of hottest failed me Andrew Edwards and Graeme bloke from The National Trust holding the umbrella Russia sending a very well Grant thank you so what's your background are you a poet then I'm a freelance writer and most of the time and I also run the mindfulness and performance research project at University of Huddersfield that's actually based in the drama department for me to even though we've only war just a few steps up till it's well probably I'm going to go back breathless but what you'll find is that the cars are behind the school group who was there when Iraq some how it's different already Yeah absolutely and because we're going to go off the main track here then that sense is deep in the even more just part of what Grant wanted with this particular trail. So we're approaching the 1st poem and it's position by a small tree stump you'll see and that's quite important to the 1st poem in fact this is a managed wood learned and so we sometimes do see cut trees and they're responding to that was part of the initial impulse for the poetry it's one of the themes what we'd like to do is obviously respond and take people off the main track and allow them to sort of meander through the woodland and where they have a space to make these poems. Make sent along the track one thus gone space making. The sudden air still saps. A bright steaming pause a path to emptiness. I found that really moving was standing in the woodland as rain drops beaded on the silver plaque on which the poem is grand and was very special wasn't Yeah I really think there is something quite extraordinary about reading something like that in the woodland it's not a map it's not directions it's just an invitation to think listen and be warm verse gone special perjury trial a woodland war commemorative comp templates of war mindfulness here are Castle Crags I'm Andrew Edwards more in part 2 next to b.b.c. Radio Leeds Good morning I am Andrew it is invitation only secret spaces and that one came from the National Trust of Hardcastle crags and a really nice place to go so continue the journey and I thought if you'd want to get away from all the nonsense in this room up to Christmas I really recommend that so be turn up at the main carpark at the bottom and as if you're walking up to Gibson mill that's where the whole of the trial starts absolutely free even better 715 b.b.c. Radio Leeds. This is Sam Smith and I feel love how would you have just with the weather in a moment we'll take a weekend weather selfie part one producer Eddie it's going to feature as well for this is my shift the full Christmas in these companies believe Christmas jumper. Dot co dot u.k. So part 2 of this weekend secret space adventure Well high above had to bridge the beautiful Hardcastle crags on a beautiful if rather wet summer day I went poetry trail so that come in just a moment's time but 1st look. You Christmas jumper have a do have a look at us your well mine is the next weekend is my last May get a full Christmas so here next week well I have coordinated wishes about a proper memo shouldn't but produce a ready it's easy his last weekend before Christmas yes and he's wearing he's gonna laugh when he can on a blue Christmas tree. You know I let him off because he smiled it looks it looks Martin it is look small to describe yours and say mine is Gras and it actually has lots of little dogs and the dogs are wearing prison system is really it's a look and it's not one of those really horrible kits. That yet to come I'm building up to see why mine is not a thing of beauty but I may just if you're very good treat you to it next weekend but Abby isn't here so they were out last night and that's my excuse an early and has you know early as well so let's talk weather producer Jules really made us smile this morning as he started off with the news a 6 by saying it's grim we have weather Yes Well there you go focused on I'll see you later. Yeah it is quite overcast isn't it this morning we've still some really heavy showers and even a light in that continuing as well through the morning but they will gradually ease into the afternoon I think it will be largely dry with plenty of sunshine so just bear with it and it will get better but it is going to be chilly and windy today highs of just 5 Celsius so I think you heading out even night tonight a dry start but outbreaks of rain will develop they'll then start to become more showers in the early hours of tomorrow morning but could still be quite heavy there's a potential for something a little bit more wintry I think a higher ground even at lows if warranty is going to start something a little more yes what does that potentially make of sleety maybe snow we make save the high ground but you know nothing that will settle that level are they wouldn't forgive me if I didn't clarify what something wintry means carry on I mean and then tomorrow that early morning where you know Clegg will see again a gradual improvement I think into the afternoon draw a bright to some decent spells of sunshine maybe a bit more cloud around tomorrow and then I think we'll see some showers moving into the evening but all in all it's not shaping up to be about weekend that there will be some good slices of dry next week for you reckon Well a dry start mundane cheese day and not looking about a tall plenty of sunshine quite windy human day but the winds are going to graduate used to a major week on which there it is and it's him once again I'm afraid well there we are it is December that is the truth there's no final. You came with me before Christmas so she's wearing the Christmas jumper I will spare you mine till next weekend but we will take the weekend weather selfie in just a moment's time previously radio have very nice phone that will thank you have a rich instead breakfast show oh my name's Richard stead and I'm stood in the middle of a failed in the middle of the triangle because I'm about to sing and nobody wants to go you do want to. Radio aids. Secret space in Part 200. 23 minutes past 7 I'm Andrew good morning. Secret spaces here on b.b.c. Radio lead time around where Hardcastle crags above helped him bridge are most beautiful parts of West Yorkshire Ground 0 is from the National Trust here so this woodland we're just at the tail end of the Laureus autumn colors ground we've got we've got a lot of evergreen trees be trees here which are not native to this part of the world they were planted some 200 years ago to create an impressive journey through the woodland up to the the state of Lot Savile now we have to manage this space because obviously all of the trees are coming to the end of the lives and some plantations within the same compartments within the woodland kind of a monoculture which isn't good for a natural healthy woodland So we're on a woodland walk a contemplative walk a poacher trail call it what you will and this is our other guest today Deborah Templeton from the University of Huddersfield the lovely ideas it's a contemplative trail it's using small poems to invite people into a kind of a deeper encounter with the woodland and the poems subtly I hope kind of reference various things so they are making reference to the fact that this is a managed woodland but they're very much speaking to how people might want to engage with the trees and with the experience of being on this beautiful path as a way of really shifting into a deeper slower more relaxed mode of being in the woods and there's a real idea at the moment this sort of living life at a slower pace mindfulness that we touched on earlier it's very much of now isn't it it totally is and that's because we know have a lot of neuroscience behind mindfulness. You know the Buddhist monks told us for years that it was something really important and able to shift how we are in the world in our experience of happiness and now we have the science that supports that so we do know that this kind of experience if you can just learn to access it has a really profound effect on well being spotted I know what I'm doing now a little silver plaque glinting underneath the tree there on a wooden stake is that 2nd poem that's number 2 you know it's got towards So the 2nd poem is really beginning to invite the reader to to slow them and to perhaps consider wandering a little bit meandering a little bit off the path dream into quieter ways Dally take all day lose the path and find the softened. While in the stillness behind the leaf shimmer. I was distracted from the sounds the sights the smells of this woodland in the rain over our heads Graeme play out because. Beautiful absolutely I mean do well is the is the middle word of that poem and. Thinking about what you can see and just being here. Is a different a different experience to just tramping through it pause and take this place in a bit because it's stunning Yeah it's the opportunity in the invitation to experience it at the level at which you find it well you know what I think other people should try this to see and hear and read all a poem so we've given you the 1st 2 I think I'm going to continue the war would you come with me she would do the rest of the trial let's do it Deborah thank you very much indeed Deborah Templeton from the University of Hollister but not what I'm thinking in that lovely x. And know Northern Ireland and their grandma you must be chuffed from an initial idea that this is worked out so well Graham Yeah we couldn't be happier to have this trail and highlight that the beauty the crags until the next time for me Andrew Edwards secret spaces good buy. After But once again don't worry if you haven't if you silky fruit or if you warm me fruit in the alcohol of the sherry a little bit it tends to speed up that soaking process half and welcome whole bath in most areas of the world in a really bad light to soak in alcohol it's not official medical and. So even if you've not made the cake and were organized as you because I mean you work in the school system so you get the half time you got a life that is that's what is the standard thing for you to do Christmas Kate is attend to so much robot if I've got my fruit soaking and you could make it next weekend and it will be plump enough you will have to do all these. Fading and everything is just and you know. It is Christmas now is a present you brought in for something with the cake I have this is my little book tried and tested recipes it's just about 30 Recipes of local everyday things that you can just put together quite straightforwardly and hopefully look slightly impressive at the end of it you know you know we all want those recipes that are easy to do but look good taste fantastic. The fruit cakes in that so they were what a nice thing think isn't so you really have to I love your cooking Sunday day bakes baking down Barrow What a lovely book you can get hold of one of them copies if you go on my website which is breaking down barriers and just message me and then give me your address and I shall send you on it and you can exchange Well it's very nice so things to do well in advance of Christmas so I will not use the sinner today you're thinking Blimey it's called upon me again and as if we didn't know it always happens so where would you be thinking immediately of stuff you could say get done this weekend you could get I wouldn't actually say get things didn't done this weekend we're talking it's all by you shopping yet you shopping so you know helping the shopping don't shop and don't assume as you can I think what I could say is if you can do things just the 2 days before if you make a Christmas pudding fine you've got that you should have that now already. Otherwise make a coal putting you can make on the 23rd a term Mrs who is so much better 2 days after it's be met because all of her never succeed only are. A big thing I would say prepare you keep it in bags food bags in the fridge you can do that on the 23rd on the 25th morning of the 24th keep getting water and then if you're using root vegetables. I would suggest roasting them rather than having pounds and pounds and pounds of bawling. Mainly from me you most enjoy ya Sally and you can all love it with a lot of the counselor is a she was marrying me Kampala voile Golic chilling civilian and then a nice big meat platter pilot high with roast beef so what your saying now is don't just wake up in some blind panic on Christmas morning. It's not worth that. And if it isn't if you haven't done a don't worry have it on Boxing Day I've written written these tips down then said get your shop you could do a lot of the shopping this weekend. Shopping done and then consider if you don't and Christmas pudding What about culprit and make that in the last preppy advantage . Called badge just preppy veggies a big issue pound of pale potatoes now a good tip if you had to mash Yes. I don't know whether once again it's all that tradition thing which some people have based some people off to something of the roast and. Mash I tend to make quite soft usually with b. Nag in it so it's quite soft I should be in yes beaten again and if. Because then if you make it pour into a serving dish then when you you could have that ready in the morning. And then about half an hour before the now when you keeping everything warming your oven Bobby my potatoes in the oven we tend to feel full. Yeah this is right because we're having Christmas dinner I think is a bigger gathering than usual for us because of various things with elderly parents with family and a couple of people from the slightly out of family 5 o'clock on Christmas Day because I finally get together of this really good soul the soul holders also mashed potato with a bit of Aggie and that's another thing you can do this is the front of the Sunday talk as he's brought a bit of Christmas he said cheese you go well as it happens and that's a Wensleydale halls Wensleydale it has to make it does a lot of I went there for them I made. A plan really and they were really really good at Sunday so nice to have you here she's also come in you were listening to a secret trip and she's going with poetry so we'll find out what that is next on b.b.c. Radio. West Yorkshire house. December and against coming 2nd fosters late tonight on how to steel town prepare for that 3rd game in 7 days the White Sox caddie at Elland Road helping to build on that lead of the 3rd place in recalled and a strike victory still town is. Looking for more of the same away at Wigan. Dodgy to get a look at each region I. Travel to lights and looking to keep the pace with that promotion rivals West Yorkshire the build up to all 3 games begins this afternoon from t.v. Say radio I'm Andrew good morning this is b.b.c. Radio lades and his Ronan Keating. Mole from the fabulous Sandy Daugherty from Eden Ronan Keating on b.b.c. Radio Ladies good morning Ken started while it's lovely to have a company my name's Andrew Edwards 14th of December I'm here as usual till 9 back tomorrow morning for the weekend parts a Sunday breakfast 6 to line as well and what a treat this morning to have Sunday Daugherty when she was on by Great British Bake Off 4 years ago now and then the Christmas special which is 2 years ago where as you mentioned you got. Remind us for water and chocolate Alaska chocolate towns with chocolate pasture with ice cream on top and then. On the still who would rather like to very good indeed helping you take the stress out of Christmas so we're getting our shopping done we could do a lot of it this weekend for example we're saying you don't necessarily need to do a whole putting you could do a cold put he could do that. In advance you could preppy vege and you could not have you know a $1001.00 pounds boiling on the top you could roast some version and we've done that so far you've also got an idea for she just simplifying it full stop so what's the yes I would say if you have a big party coming and you want to just buy yourself time to be able to just create the main cause I would say don't do a stouter if you have a table full of counter pace which of course is posh bits and few little sausage rolls Maybe if pigs in blank case some smoked salmon and cream cheese on a male as long as a Christmas dinner you don't really need to see a guess can just graze the way through that with the drink any just means that you can then just crack on with the dinner and honestly if you play it so hard and you crave his hot. Ok gravy ball and you play it's nice and hot you know you're on to a winner I think that's very good enough I said Sunday's brought some of her homemade cake and she does it after but she says if you're not even made a cake it doesn't matter you know you can do some soaking in fruit and alcohol all still will be fine but I notice you've got to change some so it's an essential for Christmas cake when Sally is let's face it we are in Yorkshire and it is it is our own very own Wensleydale grown here in Yorkshire so I don't think it's a must. I am going to be very very grown up and son has brought this in for the team I'm going to have my cake at 9 roll the months during the 8 o'clock news now I also mentioned you were listening to my secret space up to crack a couple of weeks ago it was the 1st one I've had to record entirely under umbrella but it featured a poetry trail and really nice Debra's the poet from the University of Oxford you can hear it again tomorrow morning if you missed it on Sunday breakfast and that's inspired you poetically has indeed have now this poem My brother wrote 55 years ago he said when he was about 5 and it seemed dialect now it was read out at the time on counting to know the station all of the stations are available with about been the estimates are off the Mitchell and it's written in dialect now it would predict our family but the thing is my dad didn't drink but anyway here we go. We're all about ready for Christmas turkey and trimmings all up all presence there I didn't call but I'm a fan I'm a father's got plenty to soap techie's been shoved in Tovan tables been set back 8 me father's him for room so pain I'm a mother keeps having a swag. Very good enough that he doesn't drink if he just tries to the table. Yeah dad but that yes outfits that's basically Christmas is net Christmas in a shout Do you love it or you're one of those people who if you're only slightly grit your teeth to get through this there's a mixture there's a mixture I love the preparation I mean I love to cook and I love to bake and I love to make pop Palio I love to do all these things I think I brought you. Think beauty really we haven't got around to them yet but what I will say is however you come about Christmas be you buy frozen be you buy pre-packed just make sure the you're in the moment put your phones away sit down enjoy and build the memories because she couldn't eat those memories at the time did you see that little survey they don't the best Christmas food for people and there really was the thing that you mentioned don't do a starter do pigs in blankets to people go to work trouble a call what the people say when they're asked what do you like most about Krispy Kreme blankets for example take the area well Sunday bless you for bringing the cake in the team will be devouring theirs I'll be very restrained way to eat my slice of Christmas cake with Wednesday dial until 9 o'clock you've got to take a piece to Michael downstairs on. Reception I'll make sure they. Are instructed same now to do that immediately we'll go. Down to Santa and take from a Christmas present Sunday Daybreak's books I look forward to doing some of those have a really nice time and. Files family all arrested. Thank you so very much and a fabulous Sunday doc at c.n.n. I love the red out and calendar to mature 55 it is really good help to change a tire did you came to a b.b.c. Building and I've grown up with so many of us do it with Austin Mitchell And it was at the b.b.c.
