Side to community center. Good. Close my. Own. I'm a. Call my own. Or the n word. Good afternoon welcome to the show time on b.b.c. Radio and we have very much looking forward to the weekend now this is something that starts today the hottest field Contemporary Music Festival is in partnership with the University of Huddersfield and it's now in its fall 2nd year is the U.K.'s largest festival of new and experimental music so to tell us a little bit about it I'm joined by program director who is Graham McKenzie Hello great. Talk to you lovely to see you as well so let's talk about the festival it's a explicit of all the 10 day that will be more than I think 60 events gosh what's a start what are you looking forward so oh gosh we're looking forward to start playing. We get to a point where the thing just started and we go on from from there then you kind of go into autopilot. But not like the things that's always there with the present her audience and play a couple of things this year which actually have a story called context but presented then a new way and model I think one of the more spectacular events that's called Bodies . This is a piece like to leave which was so far. The veil over by. And after skull Jamaica where we humans who was part of Nom you pick kind of circle and he developed this piece for the cello entirely made of a piece for non. Music the team cellist called Charlotte movement he was very mean toward us for appearing topless amongst other things but this is going to be presented by an American cellist a young guy called say woods and it's a can of re creation of this piece so if I had to bring the small Dover we could go on for 5 days we've been we've been freezing this this cello made of a oh my gosh and why I mean gosh so many questions but that's not that's not going to fit a new novel fridge freezer is it let me know so you actually turn into ice but we come and stay in that basement blending chair for the concert will take place but yes quite a spectacular thing as the concerts Juta last 2 hours but I still last as long as the. You know as the cello stays entice idea that the concert ends when it melts Oh my oh I'm really hoping we don't get terribly cold snap. And then we artists of all gather rain and I don't know it's either been since Barnard to drink some whiskey and but even the cello I'm not I'm not sure which is really what I mean well that sounds amazing I mean is this sought of typical of the kind of stick that you might get her to spill contemporary music festival in is it's kind of it's music but at the same time what it's very experimental it's very artistic as well yeah there are so there's an element of that obviously trying to break a number of these but it's also very serious music as well and I think this year in particular you know what we've tried to do really is bring a number of things to the same. Of the festival that you may faint and the contemporary music one or perhaps another plays really a composer in residence this year the battle in the Swedish composer Hartman and we've got a huge retrospective of of hard work which again is very international in use in conventional instruments along say perhaps things that you wouldn't necessarily see it with the way with music or practice So for example can a there's a piece for it but soon and potato starch. They have another piece for flipped in what the sprinkler. So you know we are we are we are pushing the boat in the knees really of music making I think in this year's festival and you've got very strong Hota Stilnox and. I like your. Salute your kid pulling your leg. Your 14 year maybe. Not. So you've been a have all seen is how long have you been looking after the festival Well yes 14 you know right I say will be my 14th edition of the festival you know I did that in case your audience think I've been doing all 40. I know what I mean I mean you know well you know it sounds wonderful I did say it's an association with the university who does it is easy all held within the universe it was you know it I was in you know in venue's the. You know it's the only surviving cotton mill I think and the sealed bits Mo which is still a work in cotton mill we take over a couple of spaces there for the 10 days in the festival and I know the small venues and and places are intoned So yeah we try and move around we hope not too late opening. The next. Temporally contemporary gallery in Queen's Gate market and then we have another heartening. 5 o'clock there which is kind of interpretation of your call you know it's seminal publication called grapefruit from the sixty's I think. So there's been to be some crazy things happening say the festival that all kind of part of your calling or can you know as I say publication that committed many years ago so happens in Queen's Gate market and then we have 3 other consuls today and then of course in Monday I should mention one day we always have this phenomenal day on the Monday of the festival which is 8 C.M.'s shots and we get 17 concerns why not Monday you know everything is free so you come along and you can experience really a whole festival almost a whole lifetime's worth of music in a day and move from venue to venue and place to place and we we started doing this about 7 years ago and really it was I thought we have this really busy international weekend with lots of people flying in and as guests and an audience from all over the world and the the opening weekend tends to be like night and I thought getting this gracious what do you do in a Monday to keep up the energy so I thought let's have a place of lots of cards so let's have a whole festival in the one day and make it absolutely for the year and very end when they never went. And it's amazing it's really growing to be I think one of the favorite days of the festival certainly my favorite and last year you know we did it for the season people and when they came from a from all over and it's great fun yeah because anyone in their listening that hasn't been at the festival before come along in the Monday give a try and you can pop into one of the events and see what we do well it sounds I mean spectacular in every in every possible imaginable way but thank you so much for having a chance to me this afternoon thanks for giving me the tame No no but I'm going to . About 6 and know that you're really really busy but for more information you can get all the details on hitch c. And f. Dot co dot u.k. I hope that's right says that there's Iraq. Like Greg thank you so much progress Graham McKenzie thank you. Do you expect. B.b.c. Radio Leeds. While I'm on the way I wanted to rattle the all backwards 1st music quiz this is the bit you been working with this afternoon. Let me just say do I need to say hello to anybody with a stage yes from Heckmondwike thinks this is a Jew or culture and small because in a song called met me love you it's not on the fraud to sell it sounds good and also Rob. Has been in social and you say 1st of all I need a new exercise book because I'm fully taked Well you can have one you can have one any time you lobby after promise to look after it and you've got to back it's in the wall paper on maybe some of the proper sticky back plastic all stuff but absolutely rights as so you can have less of a lot you've got the song cycle the you say you think it was recorded in 1976 but not actually released until 977 and you're giving me an album called Live and let live which I think the lead surround them and I think the album is called deceptive bends but I'm willing and willing to give you some extra take so let's have a little think last summer think and I reckon I'm going to give year I'm going to be far and a half takes to start you off on the old that's all right. If you want to get in touch very welcome you've only got a few minutes they'll miss it Isabel 10389 double tradeable 3 text trouble 3 Start a message with the word Leeds Adama's a 28 at. Music how many struggles of a not many it's all just Paula. This is the back. Paula that you can have because you tell me that the the things we do by 10 say say you're. 6 according to my. And it was on the $977.00 album deceptive bands it was the group's 1st release after the Depok. Of. The people mentioned cream and I gave you a few a little extra tix for the Scots a number 6 in the chance what can I tell else can I tell you what else do you want to know and when found in stock Paulse the band initially consisted of fall musicians grand Goldman and Kevin gold like an lol cream and if you think you know something about the nature of the band's name it's apparently an urban myth that they've denied on numerous occasions and if you don't know what I'm talking about don't worry. Don't look at all so look at all. Think about it just move on move on listen to the song because it's a nice song with things we do followed from 10 say say. The. Bad So the brush. And the. Well that's some sponsors Well this is b.b.c. Radio leaves. Only. Plays David's you know was Friday afternoon it's not too bad this be out about Gil but it's it's all remarkably civilized a little bit busy on the m $62.00 west of $28.00 towards $27.00 gold assuming that tiny bit busier than it was if you travel again to 25 to watch 26 very busy 3 we hit the whole of the a 58 fairly heavy all the a 6 to between Aladin call grain and again plenty of traffic into and out of his field on the I 60 line past the cemetery and fairly slow through all the Essex for fall that sold out of road works on his field road traffic through which seems to be fairly fit apart from what's that 8 absolutely stopped on Baal and as it were and pinned to fails and again leads towards the end down towards North Korea but apart from the.
