Your question this week for the. He represents you. Different. Microphone So you've got to ask of course we'd love to get you. 303. 3 and some interesting questions here. As well so we've already got to. Do. Cool. Share on the big b.b.c. Regulator Good afternoon excellent to have you come and welcome to our hot seat Yes this afternoon it's the labor m.p. For Leeds in all things Fabian Hamilton I say Fabian however and I'm here I'm fine thanks we will talk about what our listeners want to talk about but goodness me a busy time we're living in So. Fabian Hamilton is also a minister shadow minister for labor the shadow minister for peace and disarmament of course you were backbench m.p. For very many years. Nearly 1000 years actually so life must be an interesting mix of the West Yorkshire but also sitting on the labor from yes absolutely I mean it is quite. Late on in my career but it's quite nice after 19 years to be asked to sit on the front bench the advantages of course you have the the wisdom and experience I have hope wisdom but the cumulated experience of nearly 20 years in Parliament and of course 10 of those years on the Foreign Affairs Committee and I've specialized in foreign affairs for a long time that an international development so I can bring the benefit of that I hope to my colleagues on the team so you may have a question that is relevant to that brief Yes and it may of course as ever be relevant to your local m.p. If you live in or Woodley or chapel out or more town all round hay Fabian Hamilton is your m.p. And we've taken our microphone this afternoon to round takes we'll hear some of. Your question shortly really busy already so I think will crack straight on this and say Ok this is actually a text question and we're going to start with and it says. Tell me wrong place or Twitter question I would like to ask why Holocaust Memorial Day is not called World genocides Memorial Day and the person says I hope this question will not be seen as either unconsciously anti semitic or relativizing the show as well so that's from John on Twitter I was listening to talking to Johnny breakfast this morning you are yourself Jewish here and resent the largest Jewish community in Yorkshire in your constituency what about that point of a national or a world Genocide Memorial Day I think what's important about Holocaust Remembrance Day is that we do remember the terrible genocides in places like Cambodia in Bosnia in Rwanda we remember the victims we talk about that but the Holocaust is different to all of those in that it was an industrialized eradication or attempt at an eradication of entire group of people on this planet and it was the way it was organized it was the 1st of its kind one could argue that the Armenians and others have suffered prior to that but this was organized and it was targeted at specific individuals specific races religions if you like because gypsies didn't escape people had homosexual. Who homosexuals didn't escape either but it was primarily aimed at the Jewish people to eradicate them from the planet now other genocides are equally appalling but they're not industrialized and organized and catalogued in the way the Nazis did it during the war so in answer to John you think there's a very real reason for keeping Yes What's a noble remark which is people often ask why that particular date it was the liberation of Auschwitz that is the the relevance of that date as I thought I'm trying to rember I think it was I thought it was bells and. It may it may well have been Auschwitz I can't member because one of the shocking concentration camps saw in fact death camps where they had the gas chambers and the ovens to destroy the evidence to destroy the bodies of those who'd been murdered and you said you were going to be at the event in Leeds as you have been very many I have been and I don't think I've missed one since since it was instigated the in the early part of the century and you know various other politicians do join us and that's fantastic but he's open to all members of the public I had somebody yesterday who said look I'm not Jewish but can I come of course this isn't primarily a Jewish event we commemorate that because it's 8 say it's a watershed moment in the history of human civilization but we must never forget all those that have perished because of who they are on the way they were born thank you for your question to start us off today that was John on Twitter b.b.c. Leads our hot seat guest this afternoon here on b.b.c. Radio Leeds Fabian Hamilton Labor m.p. For Leeds north east and the Shadow Minister for peace and disarm and so very relevant question to both locally and from your own background and culture but also with your political hat on as well in terms of your brief 345303 double 3 double 3 let's take our 1st call Russell is in all worldly also in part of the Leeds area that you represent Russell Good afternoon and good afternoon to you nice to hear. I speak to my doctor and like how do you. Well what about the soul or is it just general conversation. Right I had my back. Excellent This is the porcupines that having read to. Prepare them having the public comment I'm a. Very I still and pickle you didn't come to talks about talking do I need your favor levels up my question for you then you know about Mick O'Regan Fabian please do Russell please do thank you. I and my dog surrounded most days in fact I'm just outside the park now away to walk as you know recently we have had a lot of festivals you know. Now I don't object to it don't get me wrong. I do object to is the folk paths closed all the time. Now the long term festival was on an evening Consequently when he said I'm walking the dog I goes down the path and I can only go so it's blocked so to get to another foot to do like a you walk walk in the. On the grass and you Department ask. Why I have a ways. To follow a passing. My question. I don't mind being used something for some answers. Are also taxpayer of fully some merit or are you never fully why couldn't they have not say Oh sorry that you know I was when you have these events Ok it's a fact question Ruslan all Woodley assett fave in Hamilton Well it is a fair question and I wish Russell that the local authority Lead City Council actually consulted the local m.p. Because they don't so the 1st I knew of this was when I heard your question actually I don't consulted if I did I would not know I will complaining to you otherwise how not many people complained to me that's true but I do think it does seem unreasonable from your description Russell and it is something I will take up with our local ward councillors in the round Day area I'm assuming that they do get consulted 1st as the ward Representatives as your elected politicians for that area for Leeds City Council but a lot of people do think that the m.p. Has a say in things like this that affect people's lives locally and I wish we did but sadly we don't it is a matter I will take up both with the councils and with Judith Blake our council leader when I meet with her regularly so there we are is that good enough he wasn't even asked until you told him wasn't aware of it Russell. It is such a ball on the family thank you very shit Yat-Zar I'm not very much in a row so that's Russell and all worldly you were for many years when you and I 1st yes when you were a Leeds council I was indeed a lot of people calling the hot seat I think are confused about politics bluntly about who was in charge you know who asked who was eccentric true Yeah and of course under a lot of people come to mind by surgeries with issues about housing or the highways or the potholes I've had a lot of calls recently about the state of cop Grove Road in round a just off the road there and it is an appalling state but I unfortunately not only don't get consulted but I can write to the chief executive or to the leader but that won't. To Sara Lee achieve anything so why do why are people confused because I think we don't really deal with this properly in our schools in education we need people to understand not necessarily the politics but certainly the structures of our government so they know what a local authority is what councillors are how they differ from our Parliament and our members of Parliament and of course it won't won't matter soon but the European Parliament would you like to be more involved when you were a counsellor do you wish the M.P.'s had been more involved yes actually I do as an m.p. I meet regularly with our councillors because I think it's very important that we swap stories and issues we can talk about individual case work as well because case works a very important part of being an m.p. And the council I mean I have now nearly 30000 people that I've dealt with given that I have 68000 electors that's a lot of people sometimes of course will get the same case repeated or the same person coming back to us so it isn't necessarily 30000 individuals but it is a lot of people over the last 20 years and you know it's an important part of getting to know the people you represent understanding what their issues are love your calls that number for you is 034-5303 double 3 double 3 I'm Andrew Edwards he is Fabian Hamilton the m.p. For Leeds northeast he has been an m.p. Since 1907 he is now also on the front bench for labor as the Shadow Minister for peace and disarmament 034-5303 double 3 double 3 music from the police before to 30 minutes have our 1st question from the constituency b.b.c. Radio political reporter Richard Edwards left his yesterdays a fine man Richard moved on to other passages in the b.b.c. And his final act was to take our big Yorkshire phone in microphone out to the Leeds ne constituency he talked to people in round hey to get the questions let's hear the 1st alarm from from the town look like just Fabian what can we do to combat the rise of the far right throughout Britain in Europe or the spin and Semitic Sufi Matar of the synagogue if we can seem to be more acceptable to be racist Now again but he didn't use to be. I think it's too true and all of them are very interesting I should just tell you for a bit in our final hour yesterday on a Thursday we look at a subject in more depth and we talked about racism 90 Hussein of course lived in Leeds for many years here on the bake off. Has had awful trolling from people and she normally having just not reacted at all finally said in answer to the Go home thing where you are asking me to go because I'm here and it led onto a conversation we're having yesterday is there is he right is there more racism in this case anti semitic behavior and more town in your constituency or personal Now do you saying I mean I hope they weren't turning to go back to Luton because frankly she's always welcome in my constituency where she used to live but I don't mean to trivialize this he raises a very important point here I think that the rise of social media especially Twitter means that you can get away with impunity with saying some of the most appalling things in the 160 characters. And nobody knows who you are I came off Twitter in the end although I had 6000 followers on it I cancelled my account closed it down because I was fed up with people criticizing me for things that were either beyond my control or I didn't know their constituents or not if I'm dealing with somebody I want them to talk to me personally not just make pronouncements about how awful appalling useless and ineffectual I am without knowing who they are where they come from but it's allowed people to come out with the most appalling views but that doesn't mean that the situation is worse that's right and and and there clearly have been some incidents of behavior and we have talked about many of them here on b.b.c. Radio is that doesn't mean they aren't becoming worse do you think the situation is getting worse actually on the ground in terms of what's actually happening the case quoted it was mortar Well the case relates to one of the synagogues that climb synagogue which was had some most appalling graffiti daubed on it this is a rare event I'm glad to say and the way the and I won't go into the details but the way the graffiti was made actually in. Educated and pointed to who the culprits and the perpetrators might be and the police obviously investigating that there is a rise in anti-Semitic attacks there is a rise in racist attacks we know that. And I think my my view is that the more people live together and the more they understand one another and that starts right at primary school infant school then the less likely it is we will be frightened of people who are different to us and therefore want to use bad language or worse violence against John asked if it's becoming more acceptable he mentioned the name Trump we've just been watching on the big screen here Donald Trump in Davos we've had the Briggs's debate and that as you well know was very divisive in many ways and politicians many people have told me over the last few years have been at the heart of that because they have created this and this and if you put people on different sides you create division Well I would say. Of course politicians may well be to blame or some politicians but in the end we're accountable to our electorates and they can check us out when and if they want to I also say though that some of the commercial organizations that are out there to sell broadcasts or to sell newspapers the media outlets if you like not not the b.b.c. But some of those that are in it for the profit the more sensation the more shock they can put in their publications the more likely they are to sell and therefore sell advertising and make profit and so it's in their interests to divide us because that makes for better copy there is no news in people actually being nice to one another or communities being in harmony with one another the news is when it's divided So in answer to John do you think it is becoming more acceptable I don't think so no but I think it is becoming more prevalent but I don't think it's becoming more. Thank you for your question 1st. Question we've got some. Twitter about that as well. To be next. To the police. Just if we can on these. Water fountains. Stations to cut down on plastic waste would you support. A national The number one use plastic bottles and. As I'm collecting for the. Station and it's a bit here. Thank you very much an a plus to use one use water bottles and actually rethinking entirely what I do with the world we have to do something and I absolutely support that I think the environment has to be right at the top of our political agenda for every political party so yes the authors unequivocally yes thank you very much indeed Twitter at b.b.c. Late West Yorkshire. After a few weeks we had Radio Dave I think it's any Put your question immediately to Fabian Hamilton It says Andrew I've got a question for 5 and why did a great you by calling you Andy I just imagine you going red in the face and snapping your microphone cheers from Dave what you'd call the police to. Resist that whatever was called Edwards on this program but I'm really sorry about that I think I just retorts it to you that Blair used to call me Faber which nobody calls me they were my apologies for that you know to be any called me it was so there was. No way we can really get the big questions on the small thank you very much a day pass to 30 big. Trouble . George Wallace has the latest we have problems just the Road area of Leeds George earlier yes it was causing quite a lot of. The road in Leeds both directions was looking very heavy because of an accident around the junction of Tunstall road that is now cleared and it looks like traffic has now returned to normal in the area so if you heading out that way there should be delays to your journey down towards Huddersfield though still looking fairly slow Aniston road in both directions is still partially blocked for g 2 an accident around the junction of Mitchell Avenue So expect delays there center of Leeds beginning to build particularly on the inner ring road the 858 house was the army gyrates river the motorway scoping fairly well so far this afternoon if you spot something call us a No 330-123-0182 George Wallace b.b.c. Radio Leeds travel take your share your travel ease Kolo double 30123018 b.b.c. Radio only gets. Races past and we would love to get your call so if you're sitting over think Alice somebody go 1st don't give us a call right now we're trying to fit you in before 30345303 double 3 double 3 producer Shahid is in charge he's the voice you'll hear when you call Fabian Hamilton is the Leeds ne m.p. Been an m.p. For many years he was elected in 1907 and that Labor landslide having been a Leeds councillor for many years before that he's also Labour's shadow minister for peace and disarmament let's take our next question it's a text Andrew does Fabian believe as many of the general public do that our justice and penal system needs a complete overhaul our sentencing certainly does not reflect today's crime sentences a too short crime should not pay certain crimes like those using any form of weapon should get the maximum with no remission for good behavior and for murder of anyone and terrorism bring back hanging That's the old soldier who Texas from a sunny home for Fabian Hamilton Well firstly say to our old soldier that I don't believe in capital punishment I don't think we should bring back hanging for for any crime but I do think when people commit the most appalling crimes especially. Crimes against the person cruelty or murder of somebody that they should pay or harsh penalty for it not all crimes of the same sometimes murders happen by accident in crimes of passion the French call them clean personnel and that is something that if you can prove that was the case you'll get a much shorter sentence for killing somebody when you obviously didn't set out to do it where it's premeditated where it's preplanned where it's racist where it's police office or serve in public or terrorist or terrorism obviously then we need to ensure that those people ceased to be a danger to the public and a danger to society are you out of step I'm not just talking about you I'm talking about M.P.'s in general in taking the view you've done because I've spent a lot of M.P.'s and most of them whatever their political color would say as you have I don't want the death penalty coming back and yet we had some research earlier this year talked about it on the program which a great many people actually think we should have it back well you know we can spend the rest of the program argue on this and it seems to me that there's a lot of evidence from the past that firstly the death penalty does not deter those who would cause these crimes especially the terrorists frankly who often want to die as martyrs secondly that there are cases hopefully rare cases where the wrong person has been executed you cannot bring them back and I think that that the most important factor actually is the deterrent factor. But actually I think morally it's wrong if somebody is creating the most Hien us crime committing that crime by taking another life are we seriously saying the only way to pay for that is to take their life the old so I don't agree with the old soldier says the system needs a complete overhaul and I have to say we talk about the crime yes this is along this program lot of people feel there is some real problem yes of course on the John Worboys case brings that into sharp relief but what I say to people and I know I'm as horrified as everybody else to be honest by what's up with war boys but what I say to people is were you in the court where you were at that parole hearing did you actually hear the evidence because our legal system our judicial system. Them is based on evidence it's not based on hearsay it's not based on opinion it's actually based on hard facts what is the evidence and so you have the openness of the legal system that some are talking about so that the thoughts of the parole board could be out there so you know you can understand perhaps that's a lesson to take from that yes it is but you see we are we so often want to be judge jury and executioner ourselves and actually say that's an appalling in this is what I do but you have to listen if you're if you're at the trial and you listen to every single day you might have a right to pronounce on it but if you weren't there in the courtroom I and everybody else has no right to say what should happen if we have an actual Ok with the old soldier thank you really busy afternoon so a move on. Terri and reform is necessary but not a complete Ok 25 to 3 b.b.c. Radio Leeds out in the Constitution see asking our questions b.b.c. Radio political reporter Richard Edwards that's me our next People couple actually Hello I'm Hello I'm Julie is there any way Bracks it can be reversed and is it possible to have a final vote before any agreement is come to believing if there isn't any way in the river you've got particular interest to the what you thought is good news and yeah I've got a daughter his recently relocated to burn Len she's employed by British company that I miss and wanted to settle down and we've got a strong year here painting so I. Want to remain. So there we are Pam and Julie with a question about breaks it can't be reversed possible to have a final vote before any final decision has come to I said a couple of questions this is from Charles on Twitter at b.b.c. Leads a question for Fabian how to check a minor said in his column in The Independent on Monday we are being misled by ministers over Briggs it negotiations very prominent person in the Labor Party but one of those who stood back from the front bench when Jeremy Corbyn became leader so. What about this whole question of Bragg's in reversal we get asked that often well and Andrew I was a strong remain a 67 percent to my constituents were 2 I think this is the biggest disaster to occur to this country since the 2nd World War now probably incur the wrath of those who want to leave the European Union double quick but I think Pam and Julie have a point there we have to be part of a club if you like of a European trading block for our own benefit but also to bring Europe together after all this block for all its faults and it has many has ensured no wars between its members has ensured that conflict or potential conflict has been worked out democratically and has raised the Democratic bar the freedom bar the the rule of law a bar for all those countries who've joined so I ask Croatia if they want to be a member of the European Union and continue and you'll get probably 80 percent to do because it's been a really good thing it's embedded democracy and freedom into their constitutions now for some reason that hasn't happened here where we're leaving Can it be reversed I think it's going to be very hard I do it to morrow if it's down to me I'm a fervent European I think we should continue to be a member but you're a Democrat aren't you and I'm also a Democrat that's absolutely correct that the fact is we voted as a Labor Party to hold this referendum if we hadn't voted for the referendum it might be different but we did and therefore we have to abide by its decision Ok the 2nd part is the vote then so was the final vote the final vote on the deal would be in Parliament so we actually won that one in December by majority vote in the House of Commons we will have the final say on the deal that ministers are making with Brussels at the moment and that is likely not saying it with a final final word but it's likely to have a very significant period this autumn isn't it yes it is yes it is and now so that leads us on to the 2nd issue of the trucker moon article our ministers being honest with us I don't think so to be honest now what they would say. Be honest and what they would actually say is Well we can't have everything out there in the public because when you negotiate on fine detail on very sensitive issues you just can't have that out in the open It has to have a degree of confidentiality before the final deal is showing you can't exactly see it's not showing all your cards but I my view is and I have I do have some respect for David David I can't stand his views on many things including Europe but you know he's an intelligent man but I think the fact is that the ministers in charge of this have no idea what they're doing Boris Johnson Liam Fox David Davis I don't think they've got a clue what they want to they are all I know you disagree with their politics they are all people of intelligence and experience you may not agree they know what well yes maybe not all of them but sorry being a bit naughty here but but the fact is they they did not know that it caught them by surprise they were going to win this if they wanted Breck's it but they didn't have a plan and I don't think they still have a clue so is it possible to have a final vote before any final decision is come to a final referee manes e.s.u. What use M.P.'s may well get a vote that's different from I support a final referendum definitely would and M.P.'s will have a final vote Julie thank you for your question let's take our next call b.b.c. Radio Leeds Andrew a 20 to 3 time whizzing by this afternoon if you want your question put to Fabian Hamilton give us a call now we're running out of time 034-5303 double 3 double 3 let's go to war Woodley also in your constituency This is Chris Good afternoon Chris. Christie today oh hi Chris. Bricks it but that's not why and. I want to talk about food poverty. I'm very concerned about it globally obviously but also at. Local level and the volunteer. Food Bank and things are getting. They're going to get even. Even more work here with benefits for years. Introduction of universal credit increasing food prices now I understand there's a private member's been introduced. Did Abbott's 1st meeting last Friday may well have done Chris. Well I was hoping when it come that Chris 2nd reading you might well be able to support and what is your understanding of what that is about Chris in terms of what you would like to change I think broadly it's about school holidays when children don't get. Also generally. In affordability of decent food Ok That's interesting you just made this call we had a treaty which was about one use plastic bottles from somebody who didn't call because they're at the station collecting from for a food bank Yes that's right is the fact that we are talking about more town and a food bank I know in any constituency there are variations but generally speaking is a person is a prosperous constituency that hides Andrew and Chris knows this better than anybody it hides the inequalities even within a constituency like mine which is fundamentally well off and comfortable yet there is enormous poverty hidden within the middle and you know I'm thinking of the crumbling field estate I'm thinking of parts of the Scot all Area other parts of the constituency the back ills and so on there is enormous poverty there and that hides that's hidden by the the general comfort that most people manage to live with but it's inequality inequality of income inequality if pay for equal day's labor an equal day's work the national minimum wage not being sufficient to the benefit system you alluded to that the free will is the free the universal credit 6 weeks to get your universal credit and if it's not right 30 week wait to so worried about what about a private member's bill coming up in Parliament about food poverty would support Well I'd love to support a private member's bill but I have to say to Chris and she'll know this until you enter in the public out there listening private members bills very very rarely become law and what we need is. The government of this country to take this head on and say actually if that private member's bill is important enough to reverse this trend for using food banks and the need dependence that people have to have on them then the government must take it up and actually reverse it if you will what would you like to happen Chris finally. I would like to see an end to. The people. And. We could sit and discuss the justice system for the rest of our we could discuss this for the rest of the afternoon but I think it's a very interesting question Chris thank you for your call tribute to Chris the work she does and the food bank because these are volunteers they give of their time freely to in order to help others they are absolutely wonderful Chris thank you very much. Thank you 345303 double double. Music. From you. I should just make clear Actually I'll be talking and we take the microphone out to around a I've just been told we're actually in chapel Allerton still very much in the constituency but if you're thinking I wasn't around when that chap came into the microphone that explains it so chapel on its own is where we will take our next call now this is Mark who's in round Hey Mark good afternoon good afternoon afternoon Fabian time mark question mark. Basically I was just sort of hopefully an update actually are. The leads out to ring road which of course goes through Fabian's constituents very important ring road they're just. In the process of commissioning but unfortunately it was as my understanding is a victim of the Karelian collapse it was I believe because I read in the Yorkshire Evening Post that. The contract had been awarded to Karelian for the important wrote. And there of course only a few days later Kirlian went past and I just wondered if Fabian could give us an update what your understanding is is it going to be built this road now or is it back to the drawing board No My understanding is it is going to be built the contract was agreed for Karelian to take it on but it wasn't actually signed and formalized before the liquidation before they went into receivership so the answer is that the council hasn't lost any money and they have all the budget left in order to ensure that another contract can take on the work that is my understanding that comes direct from Judith Glick the council leader so Mark. Yeah Was it can we expect that the collapse crane is going to put it back never let her know the you know the answer to that I had heard that city council may not be able to have call of praise for I think some people found themselves in a rather more tricky place they were essentially because a parachute the money out to go to another contractor yet there's a bigger issue about whether the contractors are to do the sort Well I think the delay will be in trying to find another contractor who can take it on and give the same value for money or supposedly for money that Kirlian was offering so there will be a small delay but I don't think will be a huge delay Ok Mark so I don't think we have a date or a month or whatever but it looks as though that plan is still a long lead time piece of very concerned about this office Yeah Mark Ok now I appreciate that that banks are the only get you guys Bill because I think it's going to be very airy Yes it is the end one of the a woman really takes some time of the journey Yes Mark speaking from the heart by the sound of thank you very much around tayo 345303 double 3 double 3 let's just take a couple of people have called out here their calls and I just but quick question Stephen c. Crawford he says I'm 60 this year I'm looking for work and I'm finding it quite difficult Are there any facilities available for older people to learn new skills or do you say to Stephen Fabian I'm afraid I'll be I'll do something unusual for a politician and say I really don't know is the answer I'm just slightly over 60 myself and not looking for a new job just yet but I might be and it's something that we really need to do so I don't know the I don't know what he came back in the old one last year didn't you so I think you're probably something unexpected happens I'll be Ok very very I'll from Pudsey says when are M.P.'s in the council going to get their act together with the Clean Air Act in Leeds we don't have a decent transport system and haven't in years it's a joke let me just actually link this with a couple of other questions I've had this is fits in chapel Allerton who says will lead city council ever deliver a much needed mass transit system to Leeds in fact don't even have the no how. Oh. P.s. As a supposedly major European city where all the fantastic water features fountains etc fits in Japanese art and we probably water features this afternoon let's talk about quality mass transit system very relevant to that while the converse was a completely related of course now I'm sure your listeners will know that in London the quality is even worse in parts than it is in Leeds and we're pretty bad here in Leeds the fact is we're the largest city in Europe without a rail based public transport system I wouldn't blame Leeds City Council for this frankly because all the money has been dependent on the government of the day it was the Labor government in 2006 that actually cancelled the Supertramp project successive governments have promised money to Leeds for trolley bus and other projects but they've never actually been delivered and it is much much needed the congestion is absolutely appalling that contributes to the shocking air quality if you cycle around Leeds a rush hour you'll know exactly what I mean and in fact if you try and cycle you'll be lucky because the cycle facilities as I know to my cost are not the whole our lives cycle around less and so do I raise it I know you do and you cycle to Paris and go yeah really raising money and all the rest of it and do very good work doing that but isn't that an easy answer because some people would say at the time of the trolley bus. Some people would call it fiasco or early the Superdome fiasco you know why didn't the M.P.'s get together to make sure well governments weren't able to turn around and say you know yes man just you get it not I'm sorry it hurt and angry at it why didn't you why we did so but we did get together actually we worked very closely together and I organized a meeting with Tony Blair in December 2006 his last 4 years prime minister we went to know that at the time and that was in the House of Commons all the leads M.P.'s were there he called the then transport secretary Alistair Darling in and we asked that question he said You've cancelled this project which means so much to our constituents why and they said you didn't offer the value for money that was offered by St Pancras Station and we're going to spend the money on the ticket all instant bank with your own. Government on your own with our government because Tony Blair said to me why don't you have better buses because surely the local authority can run the buses and so he said that to me that state people will listen to views trying to in Manchester we were really angry really all Sheffield and Nottingham a much smaller city I mean good luck to not. Been able to do you know you know all the big is a city in Europe without either a tram trolley that's a rail rail based public transport system will look no it should never be the end of it we have to keep going on this and I know the regular meetings of the M.P.'s of the council the Chamber of Commerce that we have the team leaders meeting that's always on the agenda and the fact is we shouldn't give up actually I don't think we're ambitious enough I think we need a metro system we're going to try and fit one more question and it's the big Yorkshire Phone It's 6 minutes to 3 Nicanor is in for go aloft House this afternoon so it will be yours and you'll be his between 3 and 6 but let me try and fit one more question in after a word from Richard is back at 9 on Monday morning Richard stead weekday mornings from 9 b.b.c. Radio Leeds so what we do on an annual basis is you'll sure ice this fantastic Scottish tradition and not bring us an address to Aggie sport rather than address to a Yorkshire pudding. Made with flour mill can exit you pull the hair on my chest and legs when covered in union gravy you taste like heaven you'll summits like the all the champagne. We are on a tenuous tartan trail this morning the more strenuous the better good morning today versus Richardson jockstrap does that. Richard stand weekday mornings from 9 am b.b.c. Radio leads to Edwards' he's Richard stead back Monday morning at 9 Liz group breakfast from 6 very good health and he said Labor m.p. For Leeds North East sits on Labor's front bench as well one of our actually our 1st question or. Being echoed in another tweet tomorrow is something I think actually Holocaust Memorial Day I've no doubt you'll be remembering the show or will you also be remembering the many Holocaust in modern times Rwanda Burundi Bosnia ongoing crisis in Burma and the current abuse says left wing poets on Twitter of the sick and disabled in the u.k. . Of course of course we will and actually is on Saturday it is tomorrow because it also is the 27th. That's the day of the liberal media event that your news when I was on Sunday I thought that separately on you so your argument is yes I don't know linking the current abuse of the sick and disabled in the u.k. Is a question yes I'm not I'm not I'm not sure that is a genocide but there's no doubt that the sick and disabled are not getting the public support from public services that they are entitled to and for which pretty well all of them have paid their taxes most of their life left when poet I don't know your name of and thank you for the tweet at b.b.c. The final question we're out with our microphone in chapel Allison ballet I'm Danielle from around take I'd like to know why the primary school situation is not needed for it there was a bit of detail and don't you know you got this next was he what's his name how old is I've got a 15 month old little boy called May and I have no idea which primary school is is going to have room for him when he comes to school a shortage of class is very much so sure to place there's the catchment areas of gettin narrow where I'm I'm fortunate to live in the black hole area of around 10 am and if it's a real worry I've got next literally no idea which primary school he'll be able to go to stressful Daniel really stressful. And nothing seems to be progressing on we'll have to be quick on this favorite house or this is a very big concern and if you've got a 15 month old and you're already worrying about it shows how big of an issue it is to well I'd say to Danielle and I'd say to anybody listening this is something that I've in the counselors actually been trying to deal with for the last 2 and a half years at least but it's been an ongoing problem for longer than that the fact is Leeds City Council is not permitted by Act of Parliament to build new primary schools even when there's a crying need it can only increase the capacity of existing primary schools with the permission of the governing bodies but is just simply not good enough now you can start your own free school that's been tried a group of parents got together frustrated by this around a black hole they see. A free school committee they try they start they got approval from the government and the thing is faulted because there's nowhere to build that school so I think the project's been closed down now it is a real worry Daniel we are working on this we are trying to do our best we are pleading with the government but I have to say it doesn't help when free schools take over buildings forcibly like like breaking in and changing the locks that are owned by the local authority by Leeds City Council you confident that the concerns of a woman who suddenly. Going to know is going to get more so concerned yes and it's a concern to many many parents of small children who are not yet of school age but will be very soon. We spoke to you this week thank you for having our final question on what was pain a really busy we could go on another hour but I'm going to let you go ahead here nice safe haven hat and thank you very much. Thank you and Nick it's only also puts me in producer she had her saying back on Monday at noon with a big Yorkshire phone have a nice weekend what a lie they are thank you very much enjoyed words.
