As for many drivers who would not be able to instantly change their habits due to where they live or their circumstances but after agreeing to try to make the island carbon neutral by 2030 the deputy of St Peter rowing Hewland said the island needs to start now and be bold we have to make a statement and that we have to finance it all right whilst we don't know how much it's going to cost yet. However we've only got 10 so we need. Radio Jersey now how well do you know your neighbors perhaps you've lived next to the fur years and you don't even have a clue what their names are all maybe you regularly hop over the fence for a cuppa but I'm buzzin bosom buddies got parents to each other's kids I'd be really impressed by the way if there are any neighbors out there who didn't know each other prior to moving next door that got parents to each other's childrens that is impressive whatever the case anyway can't be denied that friendly neighbors build a strong sense of community something is being encouraged at the moment by a new campaign called there for me it's been backed by presents at not d.s. So Harlow whose name I do struggle with she's the one from Loose Women she's the one who definitely knows how to have a good chat that will quite get it all they so she's kind of perfect to get behind this the campaign is part of the Big Lunch events that happening across the u.k. Today b.b.c. Jerseys Laura price caught up with Nadia earlier and also Steve Barnabus now he was the 1st person from the public who use the hash tag there for me with this campaign and that was to his neighbor Danny Danny Herbert's who helped him out when Steve was burgled so he said a thank you for being such an amazing neighbor will respect to Steve Anson Ardea to ask them why a good community spirit is so important a good. Community makes everybody feel better and safer you know there are so many more good people than bad people and we want to find a brighter and by celebrating hopefully inspire other people to act as our kindness and it and in fact Steve has here is what the community for years working with young people engaging young people he's amazing single dad to 7 foster children and he had a real but basically we had this community center and used the place youth organization if you like. And we were there for about 1213 years. And unfortunately our lumbers sold to build into property developers and in the run up to as this ins was about to close we got burgled on top of everything and it was quite a low point it was quite. A precedent to be actually to be honest with him but in the midst of all of that we had this guy Dan and his wife unclear who actually used their annual street party to do their fundraising for us and then donated the money that they raised from on this call top all these other street party and it was such a nice act of kindness it was just so because you really lost your money John you was trying to run I want to point yeah I just told myself we're doing movies we're working in the communities and it's just seemed like we was up up up hill 2 steps forward one step back kind of scenario but when we got this little donation. Actually was a catapult and other people started saying all what we actually I can do a little something like a debate a fund raise and then everybody started in these little different projects of their own backs and donating funds to us and nearly 8000 pounds of rays from Dan and Cleo started in this fundraiser in they don't realize how much that little act of kindness meant to me yeah and I think that's we can all have that on our minds where that little Michael you were saying earlier. A little smile that little hello there will not make such a big difference in the community you never know what somebody is going through in their day and that's just one great example of I mean just the way that you say thank you it just brings a smile to your face that I was wondering why neighbors are so important to a community because I think we we if you're lucky enough to have a family and to have friends yeah I take for granted all the time but I have family and friends I have a job where I get to meet every day on meaning to people I'm having multiple conversations but so many people don't have that here they can go weeks without hearing their own voice even actually even lose their own that's because they don't hear it and also I think because there's so many hears so much about crime and all the time that people eat magine if you're living on your own or even your part you're not you're part of the way a lot you just feel like there's nobody to reach out to you if you were in dire straits but also just as human beings we need interaction with human beings even if it's not a crisis situation like crime or illness or ever just as human beings we need it be as simple as maybe just a smile on your way out you know you're from. Do you think we are more separate now the me used to be well I mean again I think we say this but I think that there are so many communities I mean Jim outs of people come together there are so many communities that are thriving and sharing and caring about each other so I think we've got a I think what's really important about this campaign is is not to think which I sort of do said oh you know is there any Always or any chance what about the surgical I think we've got to look at all the good it's going to go yes they re still so much to go and we can just and we can go for. The repeal of that's right and sometimes you might know your neighbor next door one on either side maybe one across the road but when you have something like a big lunch then your 35 goes down at the end of the road at the beginning of the road and then you realize how much you have in common with with people that live right on the doorstep. Steve and. I think that right she's a presenter on Loose Women and she's backing this campaign it's all about friendly neighbors and community spirit and I think it's an important one especially as we're kind of edging towards Christmas whether we like it or not now it's really nice to feel a sense of community perhaps you know with a lot of people over Christmas time but it's just nice to know that someone not see far away with a smile on their face I like that and I've got to say I've done alright with my neighbors occasionally they'll be some free in a bag or some vegetables and stuff that they've had in the garden just passed on to us I think it's them someone else just dropping random bits fades on our doorstep but but yeah it's so nice and then also interesting a few years back I bumped into a neighbor who had moved out about 10 years before and he said some may used to be all right being you and I but apart from your dog was I want that cute little black Labrador we used to have he said yes she was petrified she's to run in the garridge and bark at me and my garridge he never said a word of this when he was living next to us but then with a few years difference that you have the confidence to say your dog was a right pain in the poor. immigrant Jenny Mali told b.b.c. Radio D.J.'s a look. That's . A. Very. So we've been talking about cards the self to name so many people buying Christmas cards at the moment many others make a donation to charity instead or sorting out 8 cards well one local artist is a massive fan of humble Christmas cards especially the ones that she's made b.b.c. Jerseys How about spoke to Gabrielle a st local artist and graphic designer all about I just I always find this different trends especially with my own cards and ones that are popular It always seems to be the ones that I don't think would be popular tend to sell out best. So I've done a series of animal themed like whimsical Christmas cards which are quite popular. Like for example I have a fox with a little scarf blowing in the wind in the in the words. So you brought some of these with you today can you show me this faux One Ok so it's this one here there are trees in the monks the snow. There's a Fox walking through the snow. With a little scarf on it is really call isn't it striking lines it's like block colors isn't it I like bold colors and high contrast and the use of colors aren't necessarily traditional when you think of Christmas you think of red and green don't you and I mean your Christmas card something about like blue and purple So what it was that like a conscious decision yeah I think I like to mix traditional themes the but I like to make them more contemporary with. Brighter colors and things that are on trend. So I think it brings another dimension to it when it a bit more modern people tend to be drawn towards them so what kind of work goes into making Christmas cards because you've been doing this since you were little is that right yeah so. Ever since I could basically hold a pencil I been making my own cards especially for my parents I've never once in my life actually bought my parents a card and wow that makes me feel so basically it's just something that I really enjoy doing I like to. Take all the Christmas cards and cut out the different figures or animals or whatever it is and rearrange them to make your own Christmas card that's fascinating So is that how you make them then is that what the process is like for you honestly it's always different so sometimes I paint Sometimes I cut out old cards sometimes. I've got an example here that I made not a few years ago and it's just a piece of bark that I found which I really liked so I stuck the piece of bark on a card and painted on that yes you've got like loads of trees like Christmas trees and then you've got a little family walking the dog on this piece of bark it's like it's almost like a photo isn't it far away it's amazing thank you. Well it's that I think as long as you're using your imagination you can really go to town so where do you draw inspiration from that when you're getting creative and when you're making these cards. I like to just look around the stationery shops and see what they're doing and what the trends are so like at the moment 4 wheeling metallic foiling is very on trend and that's a that's a death very different style to like my digital ones my digital ones are the ones with all the color when it comes to getting a Christmas card how do you feel when you get one personally love getting any cards I think it shows that. Whoever sent you the cards really does care about you and is really. Taking taking the time to go and buy your card or make your card cards now I think are more important than ever instead of just sending a text or. Like an e-mail or something it will really does make someone smile I think and changes how they feel about the other person so do you still send out Christmas cards or do you think it has a shelf life I think it's actually making a comeback because people don't just want to send a text because the text now is just so every day it's not a special thing anymore. So. Sending and receiving cards I think people. Need to start doing it and it does show the other the receiver that you made the effort that was local artists Gabriela street who loves a Christmas card especially a homemade one. For 98.8.
