Tell you everyone great to have your company this evening coming up on farming matters we're focusing on farms see if they will be hearing to the hard hitting stories a farmer overcome by slurry fins and another he watched his son fall from his tractor onto the road to emotional kinds of high moments lapse can result in devastating consequences we want to hear from you too you can text it 1771 or e-mail and on farming dot matters at b.b.c. Cool dot u.k. . We have our panel seated and ready to go the man with the Spangler on the pulse of the farming community commentator Richard Wright and farming are very low fares journalists Richfield Martin their job. In studio by the p.s. And I suppose the Late Show and Camilla marquee from the Health and Safety Executive combine that with a weekend weather phone call from the Farm Market Report paper review and a very special link up to Balmoral park and we've got more going on at the farm than the farmers Bash and welcome to the farming matters. Welcome to all my guests in studio great to have this evening everyone journalists Rachel Martin I have noticed that you are very dull the same evening I'm not in the usual attire when you're doing the paper if you please detail what you're doing later this evening while I do feel like the queen I'm here some nights I'm away but dress up your rights the British Penry Association Dinner is on tonight so I'll be trying to shit out of here as soon as I can possibly before Bara get started the weather Richard you were out last year you're not quite as brave as me to try and get between Or let's say I thought it was going to be impossible to try and do the early but I did my bit last year I schoolgirl of last year thing so I got a dispensation not to go this year and the only thing I have to ask is why was I not invited on my professor David Marks mean this is this is this is terrible obviously an oversight yes obviously an oversight Richard never know maybe next year I'll speak out. It's called All the shots and that would be. An Yway thank you very much for coming into the studio this evening we'll be hearing more from Richard and ritual 3 ite the program but on to what is probably the most important issue when it comes to farming as see if to everyone working in our agriculture industry features faces more risks than most when it comes to their daily work on predictable livestock dangerous gases and heparin machinery all have the potential to cause serious injury or worse this evening we're going to hear from 2 farmers Wallace Gregg and George has let both how bravely agreed to tell their stories for Wallace It's everything. Others worst nightmare his son fell out of his tractor and was in a just coma we'll hear Wallace the story later on but 1st George Hazlitt was a part time sheep farmer and Claude a the father of one says farming was in his blood from the moment he was born 45 years later he was left fighting for his life after being overcome by slurry he woke up on able to speak or move. I visited George at the time with his wife and son Matthew and asked him about the day that changed his life forever. Realized there was. A should look what they might. Get might. Wonder over the kid gets a one left field myself and fumes the most meaning get me so to the class to this here. I was so costs will stay. Back on this he had good these clowns placed but by that they are over the my I don't burn down anymore because it was covering from laughter was just told to me I was so our own conscious on top of. What I had on was bored brought to come 3. Mikes of thank. You for strong or have been lonely or. She just don't fit in but this year the cure I got. Double portion of what to most. Gas small salute both oh no it really happened for 4 weeks and the gossip and Belden up and as you say and previous years you had just put it straight out on to the faces this year you just wait it away it waited about 4 weeks and then that was enough to bring not goth level up but we bet last thing my hip was gas I just was saying can get those of mikes and get to No one on. The gas fools last thing in my main No one told me flu was and he said that because. Sad the campaign didn't realize something was happening and what mi g. Thank or what came over you thought you know what I think I'm being overcome by fumes was given breath. Just was just filled to folly may have felt for me I just felt I was going to pass so it to I wanted to the Shias who had. Both a dome or brick getting back up again and were taken to hospital and quite a bad way was the point for me breathe them was just just baby. And maybe it was. Their asses and on the boat me back to say don't. Think of the Soto boat. I woke up see. See. They will go up on a Tuesday. Just the baby. For. The world was full was to was to him but there of was the nurse to save me it all pain as he was I couldn't speak. Nor from whom it was just show tif in the old way cope you must been very confused as to why you couldn't speak and that was obviously because you had been starved of oxygen. Was fake you know. The is. Thing a long sleep that they need to do is the beeping went on all 8 try in May was they were get married to the bear then was my the way the. Chair been through the. Bike You know but the was was a lake of rules I know one way that was more. A bird told me but they want the consciously given that but. The beat being their mom. Shaken they get just. A was one to sleep on a step then for Sam 10 days and journey they had on them. Being like the day I'm. Told that I said in May way 1st that. There was frayed love the hope when with. The voters told really. Way the secam Day attack out them no because they had been open for they ears who. But. After breaking all for the sake of thing a was par or so maybe phone was no no oh no purty even left me at all for the Bay It couldn't couldn't. Couldn't. Talk. Me still couldn't. Real. Me. I just was really fired. On him but he could be schools. It was George his telling his story and George has had a very very long road to recovery and fact he's been a year and rehabilitation and George George has recovered some of the space. And also he as doing really well trying to get up and. And there's also a little bit more to that story because George's father he came to his son's rescue that day and he tried to get him out of the shed and get my to might then he too was overcome by fumes there luckily enough George's father he made a full recovery very very quickly but as you heard there George not only had the initial. Relapse whenever he got the fumes but he then relapsed again in hospital where he was in a coma for 17 days and I want to thank George and his family for allowing me into their home that day so he could tell me his story. Kamila from the Health and Safety Executive fear in studio with me and definitely food for thought there slurry as of such a dangerous substance on a combat a silent killer. Thank you 1st for invite me here today and it's very important that we have just heard George a story and as anyone can hear less and about the radio interview with our George has not fully recovered and I don't think he ever well is sadly am Georges is not isolated Unfortunately I have mapped humorous farmers he have had what farmers would say at touch with Larry am as you can hear from George sussed on a touch that per mom has to live like that for the rest of his life. Rehabilitate and the silent killer that's what slurry is. And you have to be very careful working around it George said that he knew whenever I was spoke to him at length that day he was telling me he was brushing a bite that day he had gone to his sheep sale his wife it's his wife said that I had to be home to go to a barbecue and he said he knew this Larry had to go right and he was just busy and he knows himself he said I was busy and I was trying to be a 1000000 different things at once and not unfortunately as a farmer's life. It is the farmer's life it's a lot of pressure am it's one of the most the interests industries in Northern Ireland if not the most dangerous You said at the start of the program Michaela. Talks a gas is here that we're talking about you've predictable animals you have big machines this is a day interest business on Sadly George has been affected very seriously bad. What happened and George's key s. He was very busy that particular day it was so much I am there was no wind that day he said and his interview there are 11 Meijer saying that when wrong that particular day he left sheep in the shed and start to die in a shed like law any human being whether Hart is going to run in to translate of the month and start to go dine on George went into transceivers animals and sadly he was then overcome with the gas am most slurry instance our sequence of events so there's a number of things that went wrong in that key s. And really thoughts as an investigator and Health and Safety Executive and that's what we would be looking for the key things the cause the sorry incidents because that's what I'm going to ask you because when these instance occur with George an air ambulance was called an ambulance was called and Health and Safety Executive What do you do step by step whenever something like that happens the 1st thing we do we want to be classed as 1st responders like Rosie here from p.s. And I am but we would take precedence over an investigation of an instant in a workplace so the 1st thing that we do is well I'm in the agriculture for a team I would attend such an incident saying. As an aside farm and agriculture is so different from any other business it's nearly like an extension of the home would you agree Richard yes you know it's it's it's an advantage on the problem because if you have an ox and you're never away from. Again because you've got to go on leaven and that's a big difficulty for people is that it's a complete anomaly that the agriculture industry and that it is supposed to be a business but you're getting 90 year old ground. Running a bite and little toddlers you know how to run the farm and that's that's not entirely wrong as just it's a real anomaly but it does make you maybe more comfortable in that environment. Which can lead to maybe mistakes yes on those those 2 people would be those 2 types of people those each groups would be are vulnerable groups you know the virus the older farmer those $65.00 plus and then the smaller children you know am so you know in George's k.s. Though there was a there was a few things that had been wrong and not key as I would urge farmers when Max and slurry to follow r.c.f. System of work watches you know max on a windy day get all your animals out of the shed open all the Doors fan out as much as possible start the pump and stay out of there are no need to go back and stay out for 30 minutes and as George said he actually had left his slurry for a while I was I investigated an instant there recently where the farmer left the story for over a year 30 minutes is not long enough you need to be stand I did are for on are maybe more you need to do and hang on like Risk Assessment you need to think a part of you know is there is an affluent going into your tank is are all those things that could affect the gas and you know increase you might have gas given off it so so the interest and I know that we've looked at some of the figures that you've got there have. Likely been no farm deaths this year in 2019 and but there have been slurry deaths and you said high many in the last 5 years did you say there have been there have been 2 sorry fatalities in the last 5 years in Northern Ireland but we don't have and those figures slurry incidents so something like that say George. With that been recorded no no then why is that not recorded sadly unfortunately we do not get all of these incidents reported Dawson Houghton Safety Executive. Very strongly about this that a farmers would place report also were not there to stop you Farman or not there are to day harm to your business or your family but if we knew where the problems lay We would be able to. Educate people who help farmers more would you record the incident we we would be able to you know if we had better reportedly would record Ok we've like records Camilla thank you very much for that will hopefully be hearing from you later on in the program and if you have a view on that or you want to discuss anything that's happened to you it's text and on it 1771 but it's time to take a look at the stories that the making the farming headlines this time with agriculture journalist Chris McCulloch before we start out of going to be better Christmas cheer for you have v.a. Oh my goodness what have you got me something nice for Christmas well known 1st of all maybe I should say here you've got your Christmas decorations up and is now you're in December. And I come on stop being a big. Guy when I say left the heists did you put my No 8 volunteered to great because I was put in the decorations up well on the same doors Christmas as you know I would talk to farmers and there's a northern quite often on the feedback for this we show is quite positive. Create stuff farmers say they like the variety of stories and like the tones on the on the news on that also like your ball a minute trying Owen that there I am trying to mask the don't say that like my Bowman is trying just. Looking to say I have the 1st story I have here as a warning from the Department of Agriculture for farmers to be on the lookout for Neighbors say this right Cup Prien arthritis and Keppel latest some Lisa and it's a disease a notifiable virus disease and goats and is the 1st ever kiss has happened on a farm and country Londonderry and the department surgeon farmers to be on the lookout for those viruses a worldwide fires was never been here before but we've had one key as farmers have to be looking out for us how does that spread all causes a viral disease or keeps growing the goes from go to go as far as I know but also the mean signs of as lameness caused by the arthritis and though in the older animals and the goats are in fact an early. It's roomy and virus positive for life well not so good no that is not good at all and as you say it's the 1st piece here yes for really worry and really we're in a date and the department is saying farmers really must look out for us and it is a notifiable disease they have to tell the Department of they see any symptoms of us. And their goat herds and as the goat automatically put dynamics in one that does as far as I know yes a house to go Ok anything else that's caught your eye Creswell indeed as you know I was over there a technical show where I'm going to go some machinery a lot so I heard the last stone heights I walked over 20 kilometers in 3 days 20 miles or in 3 days just to see what was happening but some of the papers here have picked up on one of the innovations that was actually out there are good technique show and it's going on the basis of a drone and it's developed by John Deere and a company called vul copter and you're in partnership and as a drone actually can spray or crops would you believe and can take 200 kilos of spray water mix and there spray or copes or your crops does just draw one type of thing like a helicopter on a level what does now that's a big that's a big as a big joining us Peter and when you think about the whole thing about your head or 200 kilos on a sprint crops is absolutely me isn't higher than get up to stand there and do you have to be as a by remote control our remote control yet you can set I guess you can program these things you can set your office in flat from your office well anything else more future in again the people in the days and it will fit your look into the future as you know Garth or don't be organized the farmers bosh he doesn't date and the next one we're told is going to have a few stars remember do appear and on the event that's funny you should say that because I came into the office to dance somebody had very nicely cut it and stuck to my keyboard player your great minds think a late night because I'm just looking out right now and it says it's going to be a few stars party Vanessa Tracey Carey and Bob with a. One piece band called Mean Streak will be appearing at the farmer's Bosch next year Fred a Stover the 9th So that's something to look forward to how new and the people of the San Frederick to where the one thing I got to thought the ages away at as popular as popular on the by the many people who trying to text and advance there's still be another attraction for him to go to there's been a lot of coverage by females in agriculture Eastland quite rightly so off the saber Don't forget but the man right there is just as importantly can never forget about the man just gone for having a member on that no I picked up a story myself about him and Farmer obviously he's a young man a very young man and he's a bit of an entrepreneur to tell you this young lad is only 9 years old he's called Joshua Garnett and he's from templates a card off and he's already running his own company sort of speak would you believe in my cat in the sense young fellow as so clued up in these birds it breeds hybrid hands if you go on and he sells them and he not only does he sell the birds to people who want to have their own eggs in the morning for breakfast but he sells eggs as well and not only does he sell the eggs they mix chicken coops and he sells the chicken coops to people who want to keep the hands not only does it want to share this before listening am these only name is Miller assures me it is only 9 and normally would have in the summertime and $100.00 birds around the place but on the under 10 because cold has 40 now only has specimens up and run and he's going to start publishing a blog about it so there's no make a driver and these are like this young lad to go ahead in the farming industry and start over the whole been turned into quite a business and you go ladies let's night Josh a guy in about 10 years time he's going to be a catch what do you make of that Richard a 9 year old I think it's great to see Enterprise and I think that's part of the agriculture thing is part of farming life that they know that 9 years old but farmers would certainly encourage their offspring baby boys or girls to be a. And of it have to be inventive to try things on and I think if you look at some of the great inventions that have come through farming come back Harvey Ferguson grew up on a farm didn't like farming didn't like the drudgery so decided to invent a 3 point thank you to make life easier thing farmers are kind of out of by nature and no surprise maybe at 9 years old but in rehab says well it's Megan and I had also not got his contact details are excited been looking for good so there you go there you go if you want to take this in Georgia it was 771 you might have a business contacting your. Anybody to mention it Sponeck lolled I'm not here to make I'm a woman to believe I made. The comment that night at this point of the program we normally have a phone call from the farm and our farm truck of the week but with the Royal Ulster agricultural societies première beef and lamb championships on today we had to pay up as it will have some voices from the show and a from the show and next week's program and a little later we'll find out how the seal is going when we go live to Balmoral park fingers crossed but nice Let's hear from Jeffrey Rogers Rogers a bay farmer he's exhibiting today. Where they farm nearly supper case we keep ideally crossbred pace McCabe about 20 because. The pedigrees tend to go in for Brayden the commercials tend to go on for beef mostly but we do have a few special ones that end up coming to the next in the show and we try and show here every year and how long have you been farming for Jeff and I will it bite on a 5 been farming so I'm 49 this year so I've been farming since I was able to buy it on the farm of our every farm might say to America and the age of those so it's quite a hay and white farm but as if you'd had a farm and you come here today you're inside it's nice and warm in here what are you showing today it is good to be in state today show one we're showing 3 cows out today so we have to bollix and a half or so we have. Different class to be in so when you have a close to being a young farmers close to being on a beef Africa has to be and I'm What's so special about the life you've brought today what makes. It's hard to be a winner here because this tends to get the best. In the show so you're looking around you think you couldn't at home when you come here and you see all the rest of the cattle everybody says there's nobody here and you have to continually make sure that these cattle are in top top form before they get. Any kind of accidents coming from the back and you need to clear out in the clear up but there's a lot of work and you know people don't realize you just don't bring them to bring them here you're working at least they get them washed. Up on them and then the different products used to get them ready for the day and keep them playing and be able to show them and then go in the ring and behave as best you know is a special treat from us to you and as part of this we section you get to choose a song that you would really like to hear and we're going to play it for all our listeners to what song would you like to hear and why you say you're going to have to come and help me here thank you Lucy's my daughter she's the youngest so of all 3 of the children here with me today. Mr Martin's take off you know Lucy is. Oh dear they just love this you know this is their life to come to the shows this is usually you know coming to see him. Ok let's see before you go into the ring what song would you like and why I like to play it in sons. When you're in the ring and stuff like that and just sort of like a. Good choice there lists a world's top on our feet there in the studio Richard Wright you know you're almost getting up and down from Merrill from going out for that well you came up you know I haven't so we've had a couple of text message and relating to George's story and somebody has written on here having been overcome by slurry fumes myself it breaks my heart to listen to George as a kind and the way it has affected 10 fumes will affect you in the blink of an eye remember only takes one breath and another one says Good luck George and well done to everyone there for drawing attention to that very important as she. Really has a very important issue that we are discussing here at the save today with farm c.f. Day and also a lot of safety there and honoring that show which we will be coming to you later on in the program paralyse there he picked the song at her Dot grassed her up there and told everybody I told the nation that should Skype off school. Dot I could have done this is terrible hands off. But if you will learn and let show it was our part of the farming community on that show as a big day yeah yeah yeah yeah you know I sound out of children get off about Maher's show and it is an education that is really is and I think more school children should have been there because it shows you where your food comes from a doesn't come from ex supermarket you know there are actually on a mole's husband day you know the way you raise them what you give them and that tension to detail at that show today I could not get over it I mean there was a way fella there. Blowdry and then shot for the handle and on the cars in my household you were going well. I did somebody come in remember. I says the units are don't. See him actually. But that he plays the Texan on it 1771 of you want to join in on some of the banter there tonight and also some of the stories that we are covering now we're covering a very important issue the seedling and that's all about farm safety we heard earlier in the program about George he was overcome by slurry he's had a long road to recovery and a proud moment today that turned into every father's worst nightmare Ballymena farmer Wallace Craig was delighted when his 2 boys showed an interest in farming joining the howling holidays 4 years ago they begged their daddy for a ride and his tractor Wallace tells me about what happened next well it was the 1st day of the holidays before years ago and I topical farm we boys farm the want to buy their dog. A truck drive to take them to comics and was actually going to left the trailer to get a tractor with the mechanics and. They could be called nice Jets fine it was only down the road so fullish looking bike maybe the 2 boys come in the truck drew me one set on the passenger seat say Miller standing in the Cobb we were just going down to the local village they had a very appalled a hole in the road to this day I don't know who was the tractor to or not closed right dead the banks against the door and it just burst open to the. Open the hon'ble will never know but the door opened James who was male despoil about status because he was it when that doesn't help and fell out onto the road as we were driving alone I don't even know what was going through your head but what what was the 1st thing the it at. First thing about and it was probably everybody tells you it's probably the wrong thing to do. To pick them up because the health some of the Novara village was just round the corner and a car stopped them it took us to the health center which is all their own things you said during an accident but when you're on the outside. You just wear your mature thing and begin often going to be here and. Was a Young conscious at the time semiconscious just common draft and on a conscious. Did you know they had a tad Did you see is entering a stage you know there was there was blood when it was nose but it wasn't a nose bleed if you know what I mean so obviously an affair is the worst because it was just right on the footpath where there's a curb and there was actually a lion half on the road and half on the curb so it was no it's that's not nice remember. You want to tell your story to give others a chance to avoid the taken the rescue or at least make people think twice so you know that you did the wrong thing because as a father your natural instinct is get help get help Yes elected him up and take him to health center what happened from that point on well obviously they had phoned the ambulance and then we took them to health centers well then they. Came and collected as and as mamma was to go there as well we were taken down from hospital and. Stage they was put and in just coma and they said listen we're going to transfer him straight to the royal Delphos Hospital for Sick Children So we went up there to have the sky and x. Rays done and it was probably well outs and hop and all not Monday morning was probably a med late night that we probably got the best news that listen to this is revealed on the and turn will bleed new for very sec We boy but yes he's survived and they tell you what they thought might have happened or was it a head injury or was it was a head injury and obviously they were concerned about bleeding in the brain the not there but the rim honor him the scums didn't show anything then obviously there was still a long way to go but they thought that the stage was going to be Ok so the brother made of than just coma probably. 24 hours after they are accident. It was and still intensive care for 2 days and then the hospital for another week and a half probably turns out it was a double fracture of a skull a member of later all manner of injuries checkups consultants very lucky boy. So look I'm back and I had that and you know you weren't think and you know and I'm thinking what and what I've done that but what is it that makes it too comfortable for you as a farmer just to take my boys jumped in the tractor well as a set of talk to fare better by accident I think I'm a father and a far farmer he's proud of his boy on the farm is proud to have a my thumb and doing things with them and probably Robinson in the house in maybe watching t.v. Or some there so I think just in hind say you know I was sitting on a bully. In the followers and farmers will take their sons and tigers but just just take a step back and stop and think and look you know does he really wanted to come more or what could have been like the talk and everybody's very much very geared towards or we do a risk analysis there but sometimes as farmers I think we really do need to step back because as a dangerous profession and there were many large machines just take that 2nd thought you won't do need the boys of us that are doing it my child in the tractor or maybe I shouldn't just less time maybe about dangerous or and those things you can't legislate for as one of your own. Some of the children in the car but in there's an ox and somebody else drives into you that's yes I know tractors tend to be bigger and stronger but you just you just don't know what my lesson would be was just think twice and just look at the again and well what's the rescue. That was Wallace Greg there and thank you very much for inviting me into your home Wallace and tell me your story we have the leaks from the p.s. And I and she's sitting with me and in the studio thank you very much who is a for coming and the save one and it's probably not the 1st time you've heard this kind of story no it's not and you know the thing about the type of story is in common with most drivers that white nor roads they don't quite intending to do any harm nuts very different from most policing Judi's that we do you know people have in town only Gordon you know rob banks and you know but with drivers they don't contam to do wrong they don't intend to have a collision and that's the difficult part for them to square away in their head when something goes go terribly wrong with heard from Wallace you know question yourself and question your judgment on what could have gone differently so this is probably going to be like a quick fire and here but spam like the do's and don'ts of driving a tractor will start 1st with what age you should be to drive either on private land and then on the road right to pay what. Young people can drive from there 13 years of age but that's only on private Ok so if you want to drive on the public road age 16 is the minimum age that you can go on and do a test but there are restrictions on where you can drive you can't go and drive into built up areas as a 16 year old Count going to 30 mile an hour limit so you know we run to the chip shop on the tractor if you're 16 that's really not a light guy and do you have to have any special exam to sit at 13 between $13.16 yes well highly recommended that they go and do the course that they talk to you know brain mind or somewhere and go and do one of those courses so you can probably get some more information and it is listening on the Caffre website and to some of those courses because they do know that they run them quite regular they so as an adult. With a driving license can you drive a tractor with Yes and I don't yeah Ok. So we heard from Wallace there by the number of people in the cap high many can you have in your cap you can have the number that you have seats for Ok Ok so it's quite simple and do you have to be restrained in the cab to have to have a seat belt on if there's a seat belt fitted Yes you must wear the seat belt and what about 8 speed limit whenever it comes to a tractor on the road oh my goodness you're going to. Adhere to the speed limit the same as any other driver you know that you care about young people you know they can't go into a 30 mile an hour zone and I do know that I was in Monday and you can actually sat a speed limit by this huge chunk of tractor but you can set a speed limit you know nationally would make it a little bit safer to limit are all not but a tractor has stayed here the speed limit is the same as any other road user but they will have limitations built on to either and to their devices now we hear about this so often and drivers a very upset when the truck in the road and there's a big long queue so rosy any etiquette whenever it comes to driving a tractor on the main road and I'm sat at a cut because he hasn't in law but what would you advice Well I mean we have the law of careless driving which deals with a multitude all for driving you know behaviors and part of thought is if you're an inconsiderate driver so a farmer who gripped big trail of following vehicles we would look at that and say as he being inconsiderate there did he have an opportunity was there a lay by there or was there an opportunity to pull over that he didn't avail off and those are the sorts of things we should be thinking about when we consider whether it will take auction or not and you know as a something that you hear is and I agree journalists that people get all the bite people hogging the land way whenever they're in their tractors because I know that I hear it quite a lot oh all the time yes but I think I got some roads like the port if I rode in your right you know you've done well to find a late. I am not it take a mile stretch of route there it's it's very good and practice but are in theory but it's one of those things that and practice whenever you're on the road and you've got other cars are going. Maybe a Northern Ireland a lot of our roads are these windy bend the roads you know try to find some of this actually see if to pull over is sometimes easier said than done so just to have a wee bit of consideration and that we just consider that the person you're sitting behind us somewhere to go to you as well and they're not just in it just to hold you up you know say as they're called and off is that mind set not a red lights so my to try to drive for a couple minutes this is the in kind of impact on your journey do you know of any our farmers have been prosecuted for Hogan the laneway or wife over the years. But then of the other issues that we do hear a bite that farmers is a bike trail and mud I don't for the road. Not taken any efforts to so what is the what do they have to do if they are in a field and it is very wet and a particular The weather is dreadful at the moment and do they have a responsibility to clear up the road after and yes they absolutely do it's a road safety issue it's a bike to creating a slick surface the cars can get you know grip on so there is a responsibility on them to do that I know which might be quite onerous but certainly I know there are some solutions with some things like a good ways if you're going to be working in that field for a prolonged You know time seem to be growing Yes Yes Yes Well I can I just be devil's advocate for a minute sometimes it's really difficult for fire to you know when he's an eye to fail especially if he's plant potatoes or whatever you know and he can't go right after every time that he puts about an art on the road you know so it's within reason so after he finishes his job or whatever but it is extremely dangerous I live in the country and it is extremely dangerous haven't but we get frequent complaints about a lot on the room sort of way can I also sorry say. A fire on the legislation. Education involving children on tractors no child under 13 years of age should be carried as a passenger in a tractor churning agricultural operation and it's against the law and I hope your phone lines don't start you know ringing off the hook about this because this might anger some people am. Against the law to carry a child in a tractor under 13 Journal Niagra cultural operation so. The story there. He was going to work with his children and the tractor cab to them on restrained so and it's very apt that you know I need to get that point across Ok Well Camilla that's taken on board and if you want to contribute text it 1771 night it's time to find out about those all important markets and I've been talking to Seamus McMahon and from the lifestyle and meet commission there is governance calculator be careful of the growing so that you get a flow on to the markets that Imus's the and the I'm entering into as well Judy there's a graph tell you about it so hopefully not a keeper sort of They'll put pressure on the market over the next couple of months why do you think that there is that try and of couple the grind circuit trace back to a reduction beef job registrations over the last couple of years and just took a hard almost all of. These jobs come from a very virtuous and I started to be reflected in. What's gone over for some other and as there is there a reason why farmers are steering clear of those particular sections. No As a sports just profitability in a soft or hard. And back to table. Sort of decision making that you know I mean cause them to pay to keep So you're saying a 2 to 3 percent drop in soccer quite homers made over the last 2 years and then and if obviously can continue to 2019 but was not allowed to get them to do so. Ok we just cross our fingers and hope that the Christmas tree ad really brings out money and for farmers I'm also in the report I see that there's an update on the Northern Ireland lived couple trade with the Republic of Ireland give me a few more details about that Seamus and not just some of them are the number of Catholics lost across the border every week there's a there be just a quote from the nominee because no at the moment factories and make up a very small part of the kid but it's very important because my apartment gives out border open daylight afraid moves of animals goods across the border and a nickel to just a percent of the kill every week and a lot of the factories would have come from both sides of the border so it allows them to take on a middle tier of them oppose us with them to buy Is there any particular reason why the farmers and the site today send them up here is that just because of availability of it ever the hold of a lot of thousands less dependent and then the moral composition to sort of start sort of call the child up in August and then kill them here. Is just more tell them stories of their early the cheaper and they take them up and when I was at the where there were more protests close to a 1000000 it's on the back you know so that's good to know because there's a lot of people listen to the so C.M.'s he sort of have an interest in farming but they're not really quite sure about this whole border in the bite cattle coming up and cattle come and dine it's good to know that we be more exposed to remark maybe than g.b. We would be more reliant on access to the market to know we would also Sam's to entertain us like our process particularly because yeah obviously then ab Rex That would be very foremost and your mind whenever at comes to that but particular kind of 2 way street. Any thing in particular right surrounding the law markets at the moment I know the law market is stabilizing the courts are also increasing their and tighter numbers in g d m take your alarm sort of into their day this year due to the fear of breakfast before much of course the ball. And I sense that I was sort of a shortage of love. So that's sort of. Like a credit to the trees so that's probably not good news for people who push them off 3 but earlier that's probably good news for people who held on to them you know with them on the ball to do your sort of devices that the price of started to improve to sort of give and some return of them. Ok and then looking ahead to the week ahead Seamus I want to buy those all important prices the other quotes are old study for. Problems cattle and sheep to your child most consequent 363 twentieth's whether there can tell to another mums are sorry to see a bit of Kyoto of. Yeah. Ok and we have had a few texts in there and people getting by exercise about tractors on the road and a new Richard she had been champing at the bat to say something but I just think. Farmers that they use drugs they're part of the countryside but have a page of the ordinary motors and I'm as much more an ordinary Motors as anybody else sure a bit of intelligence as far as tractors are concerned sometimes look on country roads and think the people actually realize how big a tractor as Nowadays they're not we grey Fergie's anymore they're huge lump sum machinery and you see cars coming towards them and you think you're not going to get through that gap you know so both sides showed a bit of intelligence things would be a lot better and if you see a tractor work in a faded assume that the might well be mud on the road don't assume that it'll be cleared away as a bit of intelligence on both sides would be a useful thing to have well Richard we're going to switch on over here to a very end Porton. Event that's happening the Royal Ulster agricultural societies premier beef and lamb championships they're underway at the minute there should be an auction taking place there now I and operations director Rhonda Garry she's on the line Rhonda can you hear me I talk oh well drawn to give me a we round up of everything that's been going on. Of all. This. We are finding it really difficult to hear you there which is a real shame because we really wanted to hear a wee bit more but listen we will be bringing you all the highlights of the show and next week's program so please do each and then we've been talking to lots of the competitors right there what a pity because I was really wanting to find a bite to this all important raffle has taken place and what people don't know as that different Maracana got together today while they were dying there and we bought a few raffle tickets night what do you think the raffle tickets for. My guest around the table. Will be Kiper Chad. Did you know what. We did we have to say we pitched and we decided that we would get a raffle ticket for this half hour and I did and I had a wee bit of a scrap because he says the money Techmeme only because if you when the sky you can put it into the ring and you're guaranteed a certain amount of money or you can take the car I'm taking the car well I what you say yet she's. Well how do you rate the Scollay pardon if you got someone to put the car them and Peter if you're less. And save the shot here goes we can put it in his garden but. You know what I know I know where I would love to share you know to join calls to the but I mean. It is a fantastic It just goes to a great teacher by the way the air ambulance and also the children's hospice so a fantastic charities but what are awful to when. I would. You never know you know of harm or if a farmer really wants to get more than money but if that is what somebody said to me they said tech that because you got a day or never fails so I'm going to go with you know like you're given pronouns Everybody I want it's got your name attached to its policy it's called the letter of it's called and that the m. And a levy are really took a liking to me so I'm taking that as a sign. Of the men I think you're raising for a gratis if anybody. So any ideas because obviously you're from an agricultural Bactine rich What if I do when the sky I'm sand because David Scheidt me here in San wait wait. What do you think the 1st thing I'm going to have to do with her oh you're going to need to invest in some straw I would say she'll need somewhere to sleep tonight you'll need to go get yourself a nice big bag of major award or for a good day at the show. Somewhere fact shouldn't turn into the biggest pattern more than are known by knowing I. No because you know I think you're going to end up ever get rid of this guy if you say that airy do sail and very very friendly and I just and Fallon up with their so crossed everybody instead of. Like I know next if I bring a car home from the Royal Ulster agricultural societies premier bait and championships that anyway the weather has been great at the moment so much so that I couldn't get a tractor out into the hills yesterday I was with Ok so more of that near Christmas show so we'll find out about that later on the ground has been very wet as it's set to continue this way here's Jeff Masco with the week ahead wet and warm to start turning crisp and cold by the weekend what's driving that change is an area of low pressure that contains the remains of a next tropical storm and as that low slowly moves away to the east it opens the door some drier colder air straight out of Scandinavia so through the middle part of this week that warm moist air is reprised by drier colder air mass and that's going to have a huge impact on the feel of our weather because it's been really great has met at has very very wet we live there saturated we have barely seen the sky for the last few days that thick blanket of low clouds made the dull damp days and for the time of year some very mild nights now it's going to start to change from tomorrow night on words as that low center clears away we can have some showers tonight some clearer drier weather and the winds could be lighter than we've seen today on Wednesday but at least through the morning we'll continue to see some relatively mild temperatures daytime highs on Wednesday of 8 to 10 Celsius but it's not breeze increasingly comes round out of the Northeast Scotland gives a bit of shelter from the prevailing winds so is going to stay largely dry overnight Wednesday into Thursday with variable cloud amounts and the temperature is lower than of late dipping down to between 4 and 7 Celsius but that's likely to be the last largely frost free night Wednesday into Thursday because Thursday is going to be colder after cloudy but mostly dry day will really start to feel the impact of that northerly breeze temperatures staying in single figures the daytime highs of 7. 9 Celsius we've been used to kind of 11 and 12 for the last week or so and by night those temperatures dropping down to minus one Friday though should be a much drier and a much brighter day finally some sunshine but it does come with some colder temperatures daytime highs 5 to 7 degrees and again subzero overnight we're really losing daylight quickly at the moment the rate of change though is starting slow as we head into winter this week we'll lose about 15 minutes of daylight with mornings in particular really feeling like they're getting later and later so some dry and brought weather over the weekend will be most welcome Sunday you know is the 1st day of winter in the major logical come into 1st of December and it's certainly going to start feeling that way with some colder temperatures so basically we've got away but a hot away but a cold and then we've got the 1st of winter to look for today and all those farmers you just saying that we're losing some light and so get that worked on a little bit later in the morning something thanks very much to Rosie was just had a text and hopefully can answer very quickly why are tractors fitted with flashing lights dept head lines is that our headlights cetera and so many farmers don't use them especially in the horrid really he is the weather and this applies to a larger and a good vehicles and they don't have to use their headlights Yes that's about an hour late and purpose about it and of course for drivers as well lots of people don't put them on the cake and for years the a ton of the drivers as well but anyway a company that's And another farming matters thanks so much for your company and your texts and e-mails and thanks to my guests in the studio panelist members Richard Wright and Richard Richard Wright and ritual Martin he will be with me again next week and the p.s.
