Back to Christchurch now where Day one of the 2nd Test between New Zealand and angling continues Kevin Hal Forrest and England really could do with a good session with about we don't get too many of the Lees days they've just started this model session all this 1st day of the 2nd Test 15145 is the score Stokes on 2531 this Perth put on 57 runs after that calamitous will period just after the lunch interval when Ruth Milan and stir out row for 37 stone for 35 Milan without scoring so England trying here desperately to try and wrestle some scum troll in this test and also the series if they can 155 is the school board now with make up the Australian cricketers Association says ball tampering bans given to Steve Smith David Warner and Cameron Bancroft are too severe and contain glaring anomalies Captain Smith I am what I was stripped of their positions and banned for a year by Cricket Australia or Bancroft received a 9 month ban As for the incident in the 3rd Test against South Africa the AC a concern that the bands are higher than those issued by the I.C.C. Are disproportionate to previous sanctions the changing the condition of the ball Australia head coach Darren Lehmann has an answer he'll step down after the 4th Test by Rovers are back on top of the league one after that Sunil win at home to Bradford City last night M.K. The maximize force all this Saturday and with a 1000000 people took to the streets of America last weekend it became clear that this was a movement which had gathered such momentum when it came to tackling gun control issues in America the world was starting to sit up and take notice Could this be a pivotal moment for American gun control Well perhaps it was also a moment that galvanize the gun lobby and its supporters to such an extent and the N.R.A. The National Rifle Association saw an increase in donations We'll talk about that later on on the program this evening on up tonight on the sculpture he was laughed at by people around the globe now though Boston media airport gets a 2nd chance to do it all over again. Now there has been a wicket at the cricket so let's cross back live now to Christ Church for the latest from Kevin Hells yes Ben Stokes I'm afraid has gone down the leg side delivered from bolt it was caught by B.J. Walling just a little flick off the pad on the batter eventually being taken there so soaks is gone a polish of a $57.00 Bairstow comes to an end Bairstow on $31.00 England 151 to 6. As for much Kevin 1st to begin this hour of the program it's been almost one month since a former Russian spy and his daughter were found slumped in a bench in the center of souls Bre of the being poisoned by a chemical agent in the past few weeks tensions between Russia and the West have been growing with Britain blaming Russia for the attack the Russians denying accusations and then being followed by the expulsion of Russian diplomats from the U.K. Several E.U. Countries and the U.S. Or Russia is now announced that it will expel 60 U.S. Diplomats and close the U.S. Consulate in St Petersburg in a tit for tat response specifically to Americans action over case. Is that a girl and knowing your daughter we will respond in kind but not only about way as we speak the U.S. Ambassador Mr Huntsman has been invited to our ministry where my deputy surgeon I recall is informing him about the reciprocal measures in relation to the United States at the middle that includes the expulsion of the same number of diplomats and I also include our decision to withdraw our agreement to the functioning of the U.S. Consulate general and some pieces birds. As for the other countries we will also respond in kind as regards the number of people from diplomatic missions who will have to leave the Russian Federation Well that was the Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov who's also called for emergency session of the organization of the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons Well the former American ambassador to Russia Thomas Pickering told me the relations between the sides have reached an all time low in the situation is likely to get Was it would not seem at least and mediately that there is likely to be any change although it is interesting that the Russians have followed through on their earlier question to the United Kingdom about getting a sample of Novi chalk and bringing the case before the O.P.C. W.-O. And what that will show is hard to know whether in fact the West will attend that meeting whether the O.P.C. Of you will respond what the Russians will present will all be interesting and at this point hard to know things so we have that unknown ahead the US State Department said today that it would reserve the right to take more action whether that is an indication that they're not immediately going to take action or whether it's merely just a pro forma statement is hard to read at this stage they haven't used that statement I think before whether in fact this is the end if you could print this way of 2 rounds of explosions of diplomats whether in fact people are now going to look for a way forward and whether that involves no more action or whether it involves efforts in one way or another to seek some kind of an arrangement the thing assassination efforts seemingly undertaken by Russia stop one doesn't know what. That would be a kind of minimum and important point for the western side to try to achieve since it's beyond all the rules that anybody understood had existed including the Cold War rules and the. Things that we know diplomats left anywhere in the world this right if it carries on by this but one of the practicality of all the I mean it is just symbolic getting rate of a diplomat here and there are all the practical implications for it but there are practical implications certainly one cannot have the same coverage of a foreign country of large numbers of the diplomats who are doing those jobs one can conduct programs programs of exchange programs of promoting a commercial development programs of supporting business programs of issuing visas if in fact your capacity is cut way down and that would be true on both sides it's not put it this way healthy for even a bad relationship to lose capacities to have communications and even then to have capacities to influence the situation in a more positive ways than we have these are essentially negative questions which produce negative results which income confound the negatives both for both sides they are not things that one would say are daggers striking at the heart of vital interests and they have a symbolic value as they always have had and they're often seen as the 1st resort to undef a manic behavior on the part of one side or another and whether they can produce results is very much open to question at this. So that was the former American ambassador to Russia Thomas Pickering Well while these political friction continues to build surrogates cripple an you described power remain in hospitals so again remains in a critical but stable condition but his daughter now seems to be showing signs of improvement the B.B.C. Understands that Yulia is now conscious under fact talking medical toxicologist Chris Morris told me that this isn't surprising considering the circumstances I think. Supportive care that she has been given has obviously been a very high extended She may have been exposed to low levels of the agent in any case and so recovery might have been expected to be better than expected but I think the case here that the support of care has been given to by the medical team that's obviously looking after the top notch air and she's managed to make a good recovery in this instance is the part of the process was trying to work out exactly what this nerve agent was can you kind of talk you through in an idiot's guide as to what would have happened in the kind of treatment she would have been receiving that got to this point so I mean we know. Can we know what the symptoms typically are of any age and there is a vast range of different types being bandied about like V.X. Sarin in the NOVA chucks but they all work in the same way typically the symptoms of onset if similar in the cause call in sick stimulation that means that the muscles or cramp all of the portly functions will disappear and gradually the person's brazing reduces the heart rate reduces and they'll absent a cold if they're not treated carefully. Will drop to extended stop Same with the breathing and they may have seizure activity due to the brain effects of the the. These agents if supportive care is putting place very quickly and you provide cardiopulmonary care and you stop the seizures then typically individuals will recover with time and I think initially instance what we've seen is that because of the very good care that they've been given by the team of experts what would have happened here is that they were provided enough oxygen and it's kept going kept the breathing going suppressed any seizures and allowed everything to take its course and then now we've seen in this case a reasonably good outcome she's responding well to treatment she continues to receive expert clinical can 24 hours a day according to doctors is all happening next I guess is the question is what is do we know what kind of long term effects that could be on you description and so description to the extent as well typically when we don't have an awful lot of evidence for that we know that individuals who have been exposed in the past to different types of nerve agents they typically make a good recovery sometimes with certain agents that can be damage but that's only in certain types of Agent and they each one diff is that can recover in some of those instances again if you haven't had any particular lack of oxygen because the heart of the brazing has been so suppressed or you haven't had any mild seizure activity providing you've got over that and there isn't any problems then recovery should typically be good obviously this is going to be in a a traumatic experience and those psychological effects might be that a vote hopefully with a lot of support of Kaye getting us through this whole ready period then the outcome should be good as the medical toxicologist Chris Morris who was talking to me Anea on up all night now last week. Kent and I'm sure you will have seen this it was covered snow as you say it was covered across the globe more than 1000000 people in the United States took part in the March for on lives less than one month since 17 students were killed by a gunman. Douglas High School in Parkland Florida part of a movement set up by survivors of the attack which is aiming to bring about tighter gun control in the United States but just how effective is them movement particularly this early stage the main opposition to the movements and to changes in the law comes from the powerful National Rifle Association in the US The N.R.A. Which backs congressional candidates with donations as well as having many supporters across the U.S. Who believe in their right to own guns and look at the money given to the N.R.A. By way of support shows is that after the shooting in Florida donations increased Matthew Rosa is a breaking news rights of full asylum the American news and opinion website he's been looking into the donations to the N.R.A. And joins us now hi Matthew hello Johny what do we know about these donations to the N.R.A. In the aftermath of the Parklane shooting we've got any idea how much. Overall the N.R.A. Collected $779000.00 in February compared to $248000.00 in January were discussing individual contributions here now the shooting at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida occurred on February 14th so arguably that doesn't reflect the cause and effect from the shooting itself but studies also found that there was an increase of roughly 200 percent in individual donations in the 2 weeks after the shooting compared to the 2 weeks prior and that that number actually rises to 500 percent if you're looking at a week after versus a week prior. This isn't exclusive to this event is it it does happen after the mass shootings the support for the N.R.A. Surgeries. Yes it's very interesting and I mention this in the article it's kind of fascinating is that usually these surges occur when a mass shooting happens and a Democrat is president because the perception is a Democrat is going to engage in mass confiscation of weapons never mind the fact that no Democratic president has ever advocated that policy this is the paranoia that is stoked on the right and it's used to rake in contributions for far right wing pro-gun groups like the N.R.A. But right now there is a Republican president so one would traditionally assume that there wouldn't be this response however there are a number of factors that are different as time for one thing Donald Trump made comments suggesting that he might be in favor of mass gun confiscation which again is something that no Democrat has ever actually advocated also the Parklane survivors have begun protesting as you mentioned in rallies like March for our lives and by standing up to pro-gun politicians like one of Florida's Senators Marco Rubio and as a result there does seem to be more of a sense from the right that there is this threat this imagined threat Oh Although that said with mass protesting like this to try and control gun laws in miles would be expected that rational people who believe in their right to bear arms would donate money because they are faithful of them being taken away. I would disagree that that's a rational response though it's a slippery slope fallacy this idea that if you have moderate gun control regulation that that will somehow lead to mass confiscation because if you look at the actual policies being supported I mean a former Supreme Court. Judge John Paul Stevens came out recently and said that he would support repealing the 2nd amendment that was considered a radical position within the paradigm of American politics for the most part people are saying ban guns like the A R 15 or improve criminal background checks or impose waiting periods these are not policies that would interfere with the vast majority of gun owners in this country so it really isn't a rational response just a final word about the Seems to be quite an insidious campaign of some of these young campaign ads insidious vilification of them all on Twitter and the like it would do we know where that's come from of people making up manes means of suggesting that the likes of Emma Gonzalez was tearing up the U.S. Constitution when it was actually a target it is there any idea where this is coming from in particular. Well one of my colleagues Amanda Marcotte wrote a great piece about this earlier today where she discussed and where a lot of other commentators have also discussed that the anti gun control movement in the United States doesn't really know how to respond to the Parklane students because by virtue of their back story they have an innate credibility and normally the pro-gun movement in this country. Tries to attack people as a way of promoting their own cause it's the same logic that they use to say that if you support any gun control regular any kind of gun control at all that means you are automatically in favor of confiscating all weapons that's an attack it's a straw man argument that isn't based in reality but with the Parklane students specifically there is a threat because these are children they are people who obviously have a justified reason for feeling the way that they do about this issue and so they can be in trying. Sickly compelling and how do you react to that well after vilified you can't allow people to view them as human beings who are sincere because if you do that. Maybe you have to acknowledge that they have a pointer to Matthew thanks very much for your time tonight that's Matthew there who's the news writer for Salon in America let's cross back live to Christ Church in New Zealand has been a wicked Kevin House has the latest England's struggles with Continue this time it's brought has been dismissed soft short on a catch up made off of the burning of Tim Southee giving South the 84th week abroad dismissed the 5 England now 168 for 7 with Bairstow on 43 and he's been joined by Mark will it get off the mark thanks very much Kevin sticking with sport now a sport of sorts sport and civil rights mixed 50 female sports journalists in Brazil have launched an anti harassment campaign with a request to let her do a job a campaign video includes footage of some women being kissed and groped doing on air broadcasts up all night to victory joins us from Rio de Janiero how big a problem is this then Tim. That's that's a very interesting question the the women have clearly had enough footage there including including $11.00 being kissed on the mouth now being kissed on the mouth in Brazil is is strictly for romantic pairs it's it's not something which is done elsewhere so it would be more of an invasion than it perhaps even more even would be in England but is that the situation getting worse and unfortunately some of the female pioneers who were working in sports in sports stadiums in the eighty's and ninety's say that it is you could argue that if it's getting worse it's because there are more women now involved in sports having having these kind of jobs so as so often with Brazil. A little bit in doubt as to how many state steps we're taking forward and how many steps we're taking backwards we saw the mention that the me too movement has gathered do you think that this campaign is gathering or certainly has the capacity to gather that kind of traction. It's gathered huge momentum already and it's been picked up all over the world and I think it's achieving certainly one of its objectives in bringing this issue to the forefront of what is acceptable behavior. I was just come back from from the stadium now from American our stadium where the campaign was launched on Sunday and spoke to a number of the women who you see in those in that footage and they are very very happy with the repercussion that this this is generating I was thinking of bringing one on to the program tonight but I told what time it was going to be it's coming up half past midnight and she said no this is more of a case of let us sleep than let her work so she decided not not to come on this occasion but they're very very happy with the international ramifications that that that this is bringing and the highlighting of such an important debate and you might also see icons as one aspect to this which I don't think hasn't hasn't really come to the debate so far but must come to did bite if you've seen Johnny the film of the women involved you will see that almost all of them would be considered attractive and this is the 2nd front here I think that that has to be fought with this one it's not only space for women in these industries it's also that there's Or there's almost like a burden of physical attractiveness placed on women to get such jobs which isn't placed on men and that I think applies especially a more and more I think when I come back to England and that seems to apply to criteria in television in England or in Britain as well yeah I mean we can have a long discussion about the importance that is placed on a statics for women sadly and you know that is a whole different conversation what what do you think this support is like from outside this movement itself is it getting people who are in high profile positions to back this. Yes it is it's through social media it's being picked up by people in in all sorts of other areas it really has been a wonderful league initiative very simple very easy to understand very easy to support and congratulations to them for getting together it's not easy because you're dealing with people who are working with many many different broadcasters and T.V. Stations and so on so for them to get together in this way I think it's been Authority positive developments and things don't change unless issues are placed on the agenda for it to raise public awareness and raise public debate and happily I think that's what's what that's what's happening this time and just finally Tim is is this the 1st occurrence of the likes of me to reaching Brazil. As far as I'm aware it is yes but I think you're seeing here social media and globalized concepts being picked up and pain around the world it is it is an exciting moment I think because there's clearly so much progress still to be my. Thank you very much Tim Vickery back tomorrow night with Datsun on the World Football phone in let me just give you a heads up to a piece we're looking forward to I'm certainly looking for to bring you later on in the program you may remember to remember that bust of Ronaldo that was unveiled at the airport media it was dedicated to and out there last year the sculpture was Emmanuel son toss and he received a lot of attention on social media for the wrong reasons I think we can say didn't necessarily have a mirror image likeness of her now that I think it's fair to say to some it was the stuff of nightmares Anyway this poor fellow receive so much flak that his life was almost ruined at the time a website called The Bleacher Report of gone back to him and offered him the opportunity to remake the bus they've done it and it looks so much more hype for now though and it's a great tale of redemption I've been talking to the journalist that went back to meet a man your son toss and you can hear that conversation with her later on on the program but please do if you get online and just search for the video just put Rinaldo new bust. And it will come up and it's a it's a heart I mean it's heartbreaking but ultimately a tale of redemption as well it's a lovely lovely thing then coming up on 5 Live breakfast from 6 am A.J. a Week continues for Rachel and Chris will continue the buildup to Saturday night's World Heavyweight title unification fight between Anthony Joshua and Joseph Parker at Cardiff principality stadium Chris has been speaking exclusively to Anthony Joshua This is history. And are disproportionate to previous sanctions for changing the condition of the ball head coach Darren Lehmann has an answer he'll step down after the 4th Test the former England batsman James Taylor says Lehman isn't blameless He's fallen on his sword as a result of saying the emotional press conferences I'm surprised that he didn't know it was going on and maybe should've known that it was going on and everything that's been border over the last few days or so about the culture of the team that is under his watch he's in charge of creating that culture in the dressing room in the Australian team and football they'll be no British officials at this year's World Cup for the 1st time in 80 years at some Russia's stage is the tournament they summer Howard Webb was Britain's Sol representative at the last 2 World Cups in 201024 tame for more afraid Demick Gallagher says Mark Clattenburg would have gone to the torment had he still been officiating in the Premier. Leaders to some pretty wild weather at times. Particularly. Around places If. You're listening to night said Johnny thanks very much for a company 23 minutes to 5 morning reports here at 5 o'clock and before then. We hear from that sculpture responsible for that Rinaldo sculptor remember that you remember that Madeira airport he's been given the chance of redemption to do all over again but 1st the American basketball team the 2nd mentor Kings has announced a new partnership with the build Black Coalition and black lives matter Sacramento movement in the hope of transforming black communities across the city it comes after the death of Stefan Clark an unarmed black man who was killed by police in his grandmother's backyard his funeral took place on Thursday Erica Smith is an opinion writer for The Sacramento Bee newspaper and joins us live on the program Hi Erica Hey how are you just remind us of the circumstances and what happened to Stefan if you will yes I am so couple of weeks ago he was responding to an 8 emergency call about someone breaking out windows and 2 cops responded to the call and they cornered Stefan in his grandmother's backyard and shot him and it. Was done very quickly there have been protests in Sacramento pretty much since that day and calls basically for their officers to be investigated and to be charged but they feel His funeral was today and so there is a protest against day but you're right about the man from they built Black Coalition in the Sacramento Kings to to do some good in our city and improve side Liberman's Sadly this seems to be one of of many unarmed in particular young black men that are killed at the hands of the police in America there was a huge response to his shooting with protests and disruptions across the city in the wake of this yes there were shut down protesters shut down the major highway and they shut down city streets and they've done it again today the protests have been largely peaceful there there's been a few just verbal arguments and a little bit of the handle is on but nothing nothing on the scale of what you've seen in some other cities across America after. Officers shot young black men just tell us in about this partnership with the Sacramento Kings How successful do you think it can be well I mean given the people there are involved who are some of the community leaders both on that for the Sacramento Kings and I think in the black community in the city I think there's a lot of good people with a lot of good connections and they have a really good ideas. One of the great things I'll probably going to do off the bat is going to save for college tuition for us to find Clark's 2 children so they'll be able to go to school they're doing and other events this weekend for us so I think there's a lot of good intention and I think it could do some really great things that the club has said we recognize that it's not just business isn't as usual going to work really hard to bring everybody together to make the world a better place I guess a great a great example potentially of how sport has the capacity to do that. Yeah absolutely I mean Americans love their sports and I know you guys do too but basketball is big is the Kings are a big team in our town and people love them and I think that where they decide to put their money it matters for for residents here what do you think happens next for the city finally Well I hope that you know I think the protests are going to continue for the time being there's still a question of whether or not the family is going to sue the city which is probably going to happen so that'll probably be the next big thing the investigation into his death the police investigation has it been completed yet that will take a few more weeks they haven't really given us a timeline on how long that's going to take but those are kind of the big things that are still hanging out there this is this is far from over the schools any divisions within the community itself. I think yes and no I think that there's definitely a lot of different thoughts on this I think there are a lot of people who are on the side of the police who who feel that officers have a very dangerous job in the US because we have so many guns on the street and they see where they were coming from but then there's a lot of people who feel that officers are shot far too many young African-American men. So I think there's been some arguments but I think you know overall I think Sacramento is a pretty cohesive community and people do try to get along it's not you know you're not going to see the kind of riots I don't think anyway there in other places but you know I think we're kind of working it out right now OK Erica good to talk to you thanks for your time tonight thank you very much that's Erica Smith their opinion writer for the 2nd mento be news paper back of the course of the next 15 or so minutes time in Christchurch to get the latest on the 2nd test but right now please to cross live to Australia and let's catch up with Phil Mercer who joins us on the program Hi Phil how are you Hey Johnny How you doing very well thank you lots to talk about on the program I wonder what we should start with probably makes sense to talk about a bit of cricket and in particular some ball tampering that you know to go in kill in on I mean where next for Australia no we saw Stephen Smith today saying the coach Lehmann. Apparently the academics say the answer could lie over the times many and see in New Zealand if this is a big question for Australian sport not just cricket where does cricket head to now is Australian cricket about to leave some of the aggressive times on powered civil behavior that we've seen on the field of play in the last few years and where it's a massive conundrum for Australia this is a country that has prided itself Johnny on playing the game in a very hard very aggressive yet fair manner and here we have 3 members of the team openly admitting this conspiracy to cheat and already there is lots of speculation about who will be the coach to take the team into a new era Justin Langer Ricky Ponting Jason Gillespie some of the names being mentioned also Trevor Bayliss the current England coach is being suggested in some quarters as the man who might be. The calm voice to take Australia forwards and for many academics they've been looking across the Tasman Sea to see what New Zealand are doing how did they approach their cricket of course doing pretty well against England in this current Test series and Geoff Dixon from La Trobe University in Melbourne says the Kiwis play the game with great integrity New Zealand cricket is recognised by cricketing nations around the world as playing the game in a slightly different spirit and certainly a different spirit from the strong winds play so they've essentially engaged in the no sledging policy I think we've also got to give credit to the All Blacks who the All Blacks are all powerful force within New Zealand sport and they have developed a culture that has a couple of components and the 2 most important and I guess in the context of this conversation is still I refuse to terminations to win but at the same time there are there is a sense of humility a recognition that there are in the car started eons of something far greater than merely a successful sports time GEOFF DIXON The Associate Professor Trobe University Let's move on to the hearing to decide of Australia's most powerful Catholic cleric Cardinal George Pell stand trial on the sex abuse charge that ended in Melbourne. This is one of the biggest stories that we've seen in Australia certainly in the last 12 months or so and over the course of the past 4 weeks we've been hearing various arguments for and against Cardinal George Pell standing trial for his story sexual abuse offenses the cardinal has strenuously denied any wrongdoing right from the starts and his lawyer has been very keen to attack what he considers to be weaknesses in the prosecution case now in the 1st 10 days of this hearing the media and the public were barred from caught in Melbourne because the complainants in this case were giving evidence this is standard practice in the Australian state of Victoria. In the weeks that followed various allegations were made against Cardinal George Pell among the offenses he's accused of include assaulting 2 choir members Melbourne's and Patrick cathedral in the late late 1990 S. When he was Archbishop of Melbourne Cardinal Pell is also accused of committing sexual offenses that a swimming poll in the city of Ballarat and a cinema in the same city during the 1970 S. When he was a priest in the area as we say he has strongly denied any allegation of wrongdoing and what happens now the committal hearing is over the magistrate will now decide if there's enough evidence for Cardinal George Pell to face a trial and the court will next sit in the middle of April when we're expecting the magistrate to set a date for her to publicly declare which way the decision is going to go and an awful experience for a group of people who are injured after a hot head balloon crash in Sydney near Sydney yes this is coal been in the New South Wales Hunter Valley a very popular place for holiday makers local and international to go because it's right in the heart of the Hunter Valley wine area it is magnificent country it's interesting too because once upon a time it was a very productive coal mining areas so the landscape can be fairly dramatic and of course often the best way to appreciate that is from the air and we understand that 9 people have been injured after a hot air balloon crashed after hitting a tree in the Hunter Valley 7 people have taken been taken to hospital with broken bones and we do understand that 2 have been taken to a specialist unit with suspected spinal injuries they are all in a stable condition but what a frightening experience it would have been for all of them yeah it must be an awful sticking with Sydney at Taronga Zoo in the headlines I had a terrible experience with a kookaburra. Interim as the ones that stole the chip of my injury blood but the less said about that the better more good news from there regarding a specially bred colony of critically endangered yellow spotted Bell frogs that have been released yes this is an amazing story this is what the experts say is an insurance population now this species of frog was thought to have been extinct until some were discovered just stunned a decade ago giving scientists the opportunity to save some of their eggs before that colony died out as well now the zoo is releasing some of these new specimens into a secret location to the south of Sydney and the zoo is asking people who think they may come across some of these pioneer frogs of the new colony to recalled their coal so they can track their movements and growth than Michael McFaul didn't is a supervisor at Taronga Zoo and he hopes this insurance population will bring the species back from the brink. In the northern and southern table ends this species used to be extremely common up until the late 19th seventies and at that time the species almost went extinct over a couple of years so it disappeared it was for to have gone extinct the reason for the Cline was due to the introduction of an interest pathogen culture fungus that causes a disease called Katrina Marcos' which affects the frog and effectively those species that on and I mean or have resistance for the these tents that you walk out and unfortunate for this species they showed very little immunity and the result of what they out over a period of one or 2 years. That's Phil Mercer there with all the latest from Australia thanks very much Phil there's cross that back over to Christ Church and Kevin House has all the latest for us. Some relief for England supporters not a worker to talk about of the world instead Jonny Bairstow is going very difficult to keep what when John high above him. Best is still there for England's highest score so far 58 for Him world on 10 in England as we go deeper into this final session on this 1st ever 2nd test of got taken their score to 194 for 7. Thanks very much Kevin you're listening to John Hanson here on up all nights now here's a story for you at the man behind that infamous sculpture of Christiana Rinaldo that was really torn to pieces on 9 online when it was unveiled today or airport has made a new one now this is a story of redemption you need to hear it's a year since photos went viral of the statue now Emmanuel Santos has created a 2nd statue with a more traditional interpretation of or now this face here we say he's been speaking to Kelly from Bleacher Report and would you believe it it turns out he wasn't a professional artist by trade. Well not always completely self-taught he was a cleaner at the airport he worked he was contracted for the company that clean the airport so he was the guy who collected the luggage carts and swept up the cigarette butts from the sidewalk outside the airport and wrapped up the luggage in that wrap that they do to secure it inside I mean he was that he was just a regular guy on the side you know in the dusty sun construction is painted houses so sculpting something he did because he lost Yeah I mean I love the I'm like how proactive was I love you to inspire that he just did it and then I think he went to his bosses and went Hey Don This would he think they love to you know I just put it in the Apple one all. And they said listen we're going to we're going to give you a little money to reimburse you for your you know initial cost a little bit more we'll take it we'll have a bronze by somebody who's professionally done before so this guy was because he's never had anything bronze 1st he was like This is great and he was so proud that dedication ceremony and his son got to meet her and although I had a football sign you know sons running around my dad he's a sculptor I got a autographed photo from Christiane are alone so and he's feeling on top of the world and then all of a sudden the Internet kicks and all of a sudden the Internet ruins it like everything else in the world I mean it was. It went viral but not necessarily for the right reasons did it and when we look at the for people that haven't seen his original sculpture for now though when this ground I'm failing when they would dedicate Madeira and poised these hometown was the island they came from to or now that he was there and then veiled it it wasn't a like for like similarity was it was a here's a thing this guy had never done a sculpture like this before right or bonds like this or he certainly had never had anything Braunstein had done plaster in the white face and what he did was he wanted to capture a smile because we're not out of the really big smile you know and he he wanted to capture the joy over and all that would have them great. Airport says they left as they left the airport and arrived in midair one of them to be greeted by a smiling the smiling Rinaldo So he picked a smile the thing was he didn't know that when they brought it to the. Foundry which melting place for the bronze. Most artists don't do smiles because the teeth are really hard to do because it's about the you know there's something about you know the textures and how if something's protruding the way it the way the light hits it it makes the parts of the some parts of the teeth darker and it's just usually artists stay away from that he didn't know so it comes back and it's you know it's but to him you know he's loving it this is the 1st one and he sees the smile and he doesn't see it as an exact likeness you know he's like art doesn't always it's not like a photo you know it's there's there's a little interpretation and so he was completely taken aback by the criticism and what you know what Bleacher Report wanted to do is say hey you know what how many people in life get a chance at a do over you know one of the chance to kind of remake their image. To you know especially when it's been so resoundingly criticized do it again and let's see what people think so what he decided to do this time he says you know what I'm not going to do the T.V. . Show or do that or the more you know going to that again not show it but you know what I'll do a different kind because we're not I mean everyone has different facial expressions they go to a different facial expressions or serious one just a slight slight smile and he did it again and I got to tell you the interest a patient you know myself and my photographer human and he's also my editor and Sean Fagan was the boss on this project a bleacher report we literally pulled an all nighter I feel like we're in college again editing that and throughout the night Eamon well was texting me just nervous about what how is it looking how is it you know when is it going to be on the website and you know I'm nervous and he got no sleep last night because you know he he does. At the end of the day he wants people to like his work but he also knows that he wanted to do it again and this is sort of the touching thing it's not even a cliche it's 100 percent true his son has no idea his son was only 5 at the time yes no idea about the criticism right around the world that his father received the community was really good they just kind of insulated the kid from it so one of his kids going to see that his father was just ridiculed and he wants a kid to say you know what you do in that case you don't hide from it if you give an opportunity go right at it do it again be afraid of it and he said I want my son to be proud of me it's a beautiful story of redemption because I mean I don't think people realize but he I mean his life and his wife's life with really affected by the the amount of flack that they received online because of that sculpture I mean he's in T. Is in the video what's an impact it had on his life there and you know what his wife are going to tell you initially when he said you know he accept our offer to do it again he said you cannot be anywhere near you cannot shoot or meet my wife or son but as you know he got to know us and he got to fill little more comfortable and then he thought you know what. And he asked them and particularly his wife and his wife initially was reticent because she was so taken aback as well and then she said you know what I'm proud of my husband I'm going to know I will talk on camera and I took but I took like 2 and a half weeks herbicide to do that because you have to understand these people you know this material is like 300 miles west of of the coast of Africa right in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. It's very. Isolated and so you know to them you know as you know social media it's helpful tentacles can reach anywhere and they just were completely unprepared and they were wondering if they wanted to take it on again today as a lady said you know the on and to be made a laughing stock the thing because of what happened. Yes yes it became a symbol you know and I was told at the time the airport they were close to a 1000000 comments within the 1st 24 hours of the airport received if you can imagine we're getting this bust most of them did and they were considering taking it taken down they were totally taken aback by that but they stood by it and you know when we were there you cannot be there without seeing people take selfies all the time that thing is a magnet people were constantly taking pictures with it and that's when we asked some of them you know we asked some people to come over to tell us your thoughts and the part of the piece that I like the most was when we had him in while standing there and people would say stuff like. This it was pretty brutal I have to say that but it was and you know he stood there because I said to him Look you know what if you want to face your critics rather than just wait for the day to see these people online who you know people can be so mean when they're on the counter All right let's let's face some do it face to face and I got to tell you the gray city had and he explained to each one he never been back you know explain to each one his philosophy of why he did the bus the way he did but the funniest thing was when people realized that it was him that was standing there like oh you know much better than I would do. Believe how they back and then I would see up close is fun to see you suppose the end of the scene is looking into right now there's only this is incredibly. Even though I was laughing and you know my photographer you're looking around right if you will read my photographer was laughing I'm like oh my God I hope the camera shot isn't because you know it was just really funny how people backed off once they had to be held to a you know a cause and that's the kind of you know there's there's a whole sort of wider metaphor that are about social media and how you should conduct yourself is now listen Kelly's lovelies And so she just funny what is happening to this new bust was it going you know what I have no idea I do have to say that my boss Shawn say. Reached out to or not all the agents and said hey listen you know if you guys want to donate this bar if you want to donate this stuff in your name to a charity that you're affiliated with we'll be happy to do it so could do more good for people and now we haven't heard back as of yet right now though if you're listening there's a challenge for you there Kelly not get online just search the Bleacher Report you'll see that video on there just before we conclude tonight then let's catch up again with Kevin Howes it's the 1st day of the 2nd Test in New Zealand any updates for as Kevin. 200 runs at least 5 to 7 Johnny Bairstow key to it all of the moment now for a lot of these brought up is centuries going on 58 not out.
