Radio Darby 9 minutes past 6 how the 1st senior internationals of this break take place tonight with a couple of the home nations in action Wales are in Slovakia for a crucial Euro 2020 qualifier with the Welsh 4 points behind leaders Croatia with 4 games remaining Darby's Tom Lawrence is part of the squad will find out shortly if he's likely to play Christian Bale Lake is with the Poland side there in Latvia this evening but it's been reported be Alex suffered a cord injury in training and won't play tonight it's not thought to be overly serious but one to keep an eye on certainly elsewhere Burton's Liam Boyce is with the Northern Ireland squad for their qualifier against the Netherlands in Rotterdam Let's head out to Slovakia though where Tom Lawrence could play for Wales in a year 02020 qualifier Laurence more up from Welsh football fans dot com is there evening Lawrence Hi there Hayden Chris Barrie Well thank you yeah a couple of hours before kickoff was the atmosphere like. In for a novel which is a small time kind of just just past Bratislava the hordes of Wales fans of arrived around 2000 or so here in this kind of sleepy little town quite honestly in the sense coming to those beautiful kind of Eastern European squares this is a great setting for football but a huge game whereas I think everybody's nerves are a little bit frayed ahead of this to be honest yeah it is a big game for Wales and of interest to us as it always is when we speak to you Tom Lawrence but this time around this lot more interest because of what happened. Of weeks ago which we all know about firstly when he was called up what was the reaction like from the Welsh supporters. What was quite interesting really so I think Ryan Giggs probably in some ways actually made a brave decision he could have quite easily have just said you know we're going to stand Tom down for a while until all of this is Dow We're in the proper procedures and we're happy if he took his lead from Darby I think you carried on playing Tom and I have carried on kind of keeping him within the fold Ryan said he spoke to the player that he spent time with any of us knows him from his months 2 nights it days as well so I think they go back quite a long way and I think Ryan wants to keep him in the fold and keep him in volved and it was a mixed reaction refunds are plenty that you know who wanted him out of the squad while this is being dealt with there were plenty who said you should just carry on playing until the court served out with him in whatever way the courts do so I think it's it's been a mixed reaction and now he's in the squad I think people say well if he's there you know if he should play really I think that kind of is the general reaction of Wales fans when he scored against Luton on Saturday and the celebration was very interesting because he almost apologised it was a slightly streaky goal but I think it was more of the circumstance that he found himself in so you don't know the team yet but is he likely to start we know that he has started almost every game and Ryan Giggs in a variety of different positions Yeah Ryan's a big fan I think of Tom and he said he sees benefit of him being in the Wales squad and he's an integrity part to so what he's done so far so this press conference last night I realised Ryan whether he was Tom was in the right space he said he was he said if you talk to him this week he's spoken to me he feels that he 'd is mentally Ok to play you know is heads in the right place so I think if that's the case then there's. Good probability that he will because Wales are struggling I think to be validating Tom's actually train that much this week from what we understand he's had a bit of a dead leg as has Harry Wilson who's barely trained So Ryan's got a few sore decisions in that respect but just on a purely footballing basis I think there's a high probability that he's going to start this evening and I just have Ryan sets up that front 3 really which is to be quite honest the place where he's really struggled to to get Wales to a sort of positive position you know they mixed and matched a little bit and Tom's been in center forward position he's been played a wide He's been played in the number 10 Roland but has no been no slips either so yeah it will be interesting to see what he does this evening yet we'll find out shortly as And just finally Lawrence put this game in a bit of context for us quickly Wales the 4 points behind the leaders 4 games to go I read somewhere that it wasn't necessarily a must win it was a must not lose Yeah I think that sums it up nicely as they waited to groups where with head to head kind saying instead of goal difference or before go difference then that way it was having won 1000000 slack if they draw you know and then end up on the same number of points then now finish above Slovakia's that puts the pressure on on the hosts this evening to get a positive result so that's that's an interesting one it is such a tight group Croatia and Hungary of playing each other in split evening as well and Ryan Giggs while he's done Ok so far there are a few dieties people that want to see more consistent performances from his side so it's a big one in that respect he wants his team to come out here make a statement he's got Gareth Bale playing regularly he starts. Quite a few of the players in decent form so it's now or never really for Ryan to put a mark on this team in a mark on this qualifying group as well because of Lawrence enjoy it stay off the Slovakian beer when she was pretty strong. Try out for what is the cover Yeah yeah after work of course after. Good stuff Lawrence vixen. Lawrence Mora the will have sounds like he is going to go enjoy this a back in bed but off to the game tonight quarter to kick off our times lucky against Wales we should find out whether Tom Lawrence is starting it around Hoffa now is Tom likely to as Lawrence says that because of a couple of injury concerns and talking over injury concerns Jaden Bogle withdrawing from England's on the twenty's side they played Italy today and he wasn't part of that squad he withdrew last night it's not thought that injuries serious likewise Christian Bale examined in Latvia He's with the potency side without quite injury but not playing tonight not thought to be serious and having just got back to full fitness Jade and bugger the last thing he needs is another injury setback and a lot wise Christian Bale get the feeling he's still working his way up to absolute peak condition Dobbie do not need injuries during this international break Philip Kaka has already suffered with injuries enough so far so Slovakia against Wales we've also got Netherlands against Northern Ireland and Russia against Scotland so 3 difficult games for our home nations England are in the Czech Republic tomorrow 16 minutes past 6. Tonight sports headlines Scotland head coach Greg Townsend says his team are preparing for their crucial Rugby World Cup match against Japan on Sunday as if the game is going ahead world rugby is yet to decide whether the game will be played with a typhoon forecast to pass through the Tokyo area this weekend if the game is cancelled and declared a draw Scotland all likely to be eliminated from the tournament mindful of those as proof that the game's going to end Sunday night and that's why our game wasn't. On the weather as good as on the notes it's night time as well so it gives them time to get things in place well that is buses to games and all train lines or whatever who knows how severe the the storm will be on time. They bought Sunday does look like the conditions to play a game of rugby Meanwhile the England head coach Eddie Jones has welcomed the cancellation of their final pool match against France on Saturday because of the bad weather Jones says it will give his plays the opportunity to recharge before the quarter finals the top of it is also causing problems for the Japanese girl Perri they'll be a decision made up to practice tomorrow about whether to move qualifying Ferrari are looking for their 4th race win in 5 mins James Madison has pulled out of the euro 2020 qualifiers against the Czech Republic and Bulgaria due to illness no replacement is being called up Northern Ireland are way to the Netherlands tonight Wales are in Slovakia with Scotland playing Russia the newly appointed England cricket head coach Chris Silverwood says his priority is to help test Captain Joe Root win the Ashes in Australia in 2 years' time at Silverwood who was previously England's fast bowling coach has replaced Trevor Bayliss who stood down at the end of his contract and he's just given Test cricket the emphasis it is a stock so we talked about putting more structure around the Test team and helping Joe with that as well so you know we'd make a show but it's the bottom line up there is exactly how we want to move forward and the everything we do now puts in a process a 2 years' time with the market heating up throughout most of this goes and the lame hateful trying to become the 1st Brit to retain an Olympic canoeing title he's in the team g.b. Now the news we all feared from the repeat will come up in Japan was confirmed overnight 2 games have been cancelled because of the threat posed by Typhoon he gave this England France and Italy New Zealand all both often knowing the Italians their outside chance of qualifying and let's face it probably was the outside east of outside chances against the All Blacks Well he is the tournament director Alan Gilpin as you can imagine the decision to cancel these matches has not been psych unlikely but has been made with the best interests of Team public chairman and volunteer safety as a priority we've been intensively working through a range of detail contingency options in partnership with the house it sees the venues and it seems to try and ensure that any impact it matches how to fetch shelves being flight however the risks are just too challenging to enable us to deliver a fair and consistent contingency approach for all teams and participants. An important day to provide confidence in the safety of spectators we are of course continuing to review Sunday's match is a making every effort to ensure that they will be played to show Julie a thorough assessment of the venue's will take place after the typhoon has passed before final decision is made on Sunday morning now Sunday's matches are extremely important especially for Scotland who take on the hosts Japan needing a bonus point win in all likelihood to make the quarter finals if they don't play Scotland or almost certainly going home the only thing that would save them is the file and lose against Samoa on Saturday that game is going ahead but that's that's hard to see Well joining me now to assess all of this and talk about his own team's exploits this weekend Roxy fair on Dobby's director of rugby Roxy Good evening but even a real shame isn't it the weather could play a major part this weekend because it's been a fascinating will Cup so far out and I think the prime have been there for the surprise package within it I think they're played exceptionally well to put himself in his position for a quarter final place but generally everything is going to form to a point book there's been some good replied Definitely how sorry would you feel for Scotland if there robbed of the chance to make it through you could argue that they haven't they haven't maintained a 100 percent record because of their earlier slip up but it has come down to this game in a model get the chance to play it. That is to show him especially being on a part of the u.k. That would be a shame to for them to miss out on the wall cope but you can't really talk about the weather kind of can't control the weather and if people safe is a risk then that's going to be the 1st option but yes it would be a shame if Scotland can't at least have a go to get through although I do think on current form it will be a tall order yet because Japan are playing some great rugby They're the hosts and they are backed by an incredibly enthusiastic crowd and we see that very often and any tournament it doesn't matter whether it's a cricket tournament a football rugby hosts doing well is always a good thing for the competition it is it is it is and definitely not group always gave them a chance but I think they've surprised a lot of people with how well they've actually taken that chance yeah good looks I think Scotland. Chance of playing the game still sold is not lost and hopefully they'll produce to goats but I like to say a bonus point when it's all over England friends off which is not necessarily a bad thing for England I know that was a pulled aside on the when I was playing Wales lose a playing Australia. The way around that isn't it so it glints up in the pool so they'll play Australia. I guess it's another week off for the players which isn't a bad thing but several fringe players would be disappointed in not getting a chance yeah and i j was like this guy a star and he was hoping to force his way into the 23 Jonathan Joseph. So he'll be upset about that not having the opportunity to play but generally all round but it's often a pole it's to recover he's in number 8 and really is our most outstanding number 8 probably one of the best in the world. Giving him a week off will help I don't know if he's going to play anyway but definitely a week off my prayer for a game will be good for him and I went from a game punched again with probably. Quite something. So I don't know what he says the opposition but they don't seem to like him but that will be useful to be honest I think Reston limbs would be good for England you could argue they have not played their best rugby in the pool games so another game to get out to play better would be good but again I think that. Well I don't think it matters a level I think they'll be ready for the quarter finals in Australia it looks likely I mean if Wales lose a year ago I would use unlikely then it could change that but if you're England would you have preferred Wales or are you quite happy with Australia and I'm quite happy with Australia the way the Welsh games are always difficult without shot of course there's a passion extra passion that brings but Australia have got a good side whether they turn upon the days another matter I do thinking when they've got them booked for long as we can stop the cock I think we sent a really good up which we have a great opportunity to go through so it was cross for that day and looking forward to it yet should be a crack at just finally on the World Cup Is it difficult to look past the All Blacks and I South Africa looking pretty good as well I think this World Cup especially I think South Africa like you say England obviously. Got through they they would stand a chance and even Wales Wales are good games and Ireland although they've not been brilliant you know they they have the ability to turn it on so there's a few teams that are still fairly open you know that. You know I'm looking forward to it good stuff let's talk about Darby then you must be pleased with how things are going as a coach yeah yeah 5 out of 5 this is a good start to the season and definitely better than last Yeah season and you know we've been able to pick a settled side and they're learning to play with each other because we've got a few new faces who have come to the fore and doing really well so we just hope to build on it really would take each game is it cool you mention last season it just must be nice to be back in the winning groove when you you go through a season when you lose lots of games it can be difficult but then on its head if you win then the good feeling reverberates around the clock I'd like to think this year the winds aren't papered over the cracks I think early season last year when we were winning a few games and we did look as though we were good to stay or it was paper over a few cracks which ultimately when you start losing to appear. I think we've got a great culture within the club 2nd same beginning to form a side and lot of players that were in the 2nd team last year actually reckon are in the 1st team now so that be a progression has been good for the club old North Antonians then on Saturday what you know about them well one of their lots of used to be a Colts Captain Richard Bosworth I remember him but yeah they're doing well we haven't played them for 5 seasons I think so I don't really know what to expect we've got an idea the size of been out and said they're quite good in the box and qualify Steve back row but their forwards are as a set piece vulnerable so we hope to exploit that now as a rugby club I know you had quite a day planned on on Saturday I think you've opened your doors most mornings for the games on Saturday obviously it was in French quarter past 9 that's not happening a shame in that regard is for you it is definitely because obviously the extra revenue and more importantly the interest around Rubin is not to facilitate that and have a clue where to. We are a magnet for people to go to who want to or true people you know there's still stuff on we're still plenty off the moon. And the Colts will be about as well the Colts are playing really well at the moment that's our Under eighteen's but I've got a game on Saturday as well so this still plenty going on at the club and it should be a busy day Oh yes and we'll be covering your game on b.b.c. Radio Darby your boy in Rome he's very much looking forward to that now we've told him he's going to get fed he's. A Richard Lucas has made sure he's going to look after me told me now so they are Richard Ok so yeah Darby old North Antonians on Saturday 3 o'clock kick off and as I say you can follow it with us on b.b.c. Radio Darby as well Roxy always good to see you good luck on Saturday and we'll speak again soon Roxy fair on there Darby's director of rugby Darby against old North Antonians on Saturday with England France and Italy New Zealand both off in the World Cup but hopefully Sunday's matches survive and that is of paramount importance to Scotland who need to beat Japan in fact game goes then Scotland in all likelihood out of the competition which would be a great shame this is b.b.c. Radio Delhi 636 now you may or may not know today World Mental Health Day with this year's theme based around suicide prevention every year around 800000 people die by suicide globally and in the u.k. Last year there were over 6000 deaths by suicide now we know sport and exercise can play a huge part in improving mental health and that's very much been the message shouted from the rooftops of numerous organizations today including Darby County whose community trust places great emphasis on the issue joining me in the studio from the trust Luke Wilkinson the health team leader who runs the men's mental health program team talked to good evening to you good evening and Jake O'Keefe the trust's wellbeing officer who looks after a number of programs including tackle 8 which is aimed at teenagers Hello to you and what have the Community Trust done to mark World Mental Health Day Luke I think it was a clear that we got the message that we all deliver in a wide range of programs from schools all. Adults that a lot. Care homes as well so I think today was a great way to showcase that we're out there shouting about what we do and tell us a bit more about team talk yet into it really from 18 months now. To far like a big stage now open from the Botha to red and we're now got 4 hopes across the city and we deliver a safe space for most common and get rid of the stigma of mental health discriminant talk relax and take away key messages to help them everyday laugh you hear that a lot don't you stigma but it feels like the conversation is louder than it's ever been about mental health is that being reflected in the numbers you're seeing your 100 percent I think sports also criminal film stars come out people who you think deal with things naturally or cannot send struggle and so that's a massive help as well Jake tackle it aimed at the younger generation so how have you found that side of it because maybe the younger generation aren't quite is open maybe is free is others that maybe a suffering that are slightly older Yeah definitely I think it's been super mean the program itself is alongside oars and comes as well as a child and adolescent mental health service so the program is just for boys on a Tuesday night and they do a program with with comes itself and then where they're kind of bring the social side to it as well and I think we've got 100 percent attendance rate from the group are working there the moment and I mean just the social skills and then kind of things that will help and support their mental health is it's been great to be really good Luke you mentioned footballers and film stars and all of that and Martin where corn is very much the star of this particular show because he's been very open about his struggles in the past for you guys to have someone like Martin why corn who is one of those plays that wears his heart on his sleeve you can see that but when he comes out he's very open that must help you so much to to break that stigma yet in both our thoughts and the. Children as they see one of their role models coming out saying it's Ok not to be Ok I think for as adults we kind of go actually they have everything but is actually struggling so it's a great number as well it gives them that respect but it's with and Jake talk to us about the various techniques maybe that you do during your sessions with with Taki How are you actually tackling the issue for me I mean we kind of just create an open space for these young boys to comb a lot of it's the social side of it as well so we try and do a few activities on communication and try to improve them kind of skills or I think it's a lot of these young people maybe not having opportunities socialize as much as maybe they should better it is a chance for people in the same situation to come together and talk and just have a good time reading and support and exercise what we hear about it so often it can improve mental health so much getting outside getting those indoor things going and that side of it young people love to run around and play sport anyway but to get more of it and to improve their health side of it is massive are definitely I mean football I mean for myself but for so many people it's is that one sport that brings everyone together and gives them a chance to not think about it as much so it gives them an hour or so to switch off from from the issues I have been with in their life and give them a chance and really enjoy themselves look as far as the trustor concerned just how important an issue is this we know that you tackle lots of issues that not just plague Darby but play the u.k. We know that you do great work in that regard but mental health how important is it for you guys 100 percent important as mental health goes with everything it goes from what it's going up in the morning is want to achieve your goals and names and I think if we can just play a tiny part in that person's life and get them engaged in any activity that then we know we've done a good job and I think we all. Trying to play a massive role within that within the city in the county and just finally looking at social media today and reading about all the stories and all the people that have been very open in their stories we talk about Martin wacko but actually you look up and down there's lots of stories about it's Ok to talk is great 10 years ago this wouldn't have happened definitely it's fantastic I mean from working in primary schools as well I think it's great. As ourself and other organizations are . Looking at people from a really early early age as well we be room programs from 5 years old all the way up and I think it's trying to let them know from as early as possible it's Ok to talk and talk about feelings Yeah absolutely Well thank you both for coming in and sharing the good work that the community trust do we know you're very busy people with lots of people to see and lots of activities to run so it's good to see you both and appreciate your time this evening thank you friends and thank you Lou Wilkinson there and Jake O'Keefe from Darby county's Community Trust on World Mental Health Day 642 now the world growing prey of darts continues in Dublin this evening we've reached the quarter final stage is always a good tournament this one because the players have to start on a double and finish on a double And for those of play darts that's the hardest bit of the game just trying to finish on a double is so so difficult and yet these guys have to do it twice in one leg it's always a tournament that has plenty of shocks and only one seed remains and yet it's Michael Van Gogh and of course it is well Darby Jamie Cavan former world number 14 I've been chatting with him about the tournament and Jamie says it's the unpredictability of this tournament that makes it so great so it's the only event really that presents I mean a surprise but you know when you when you were. Given. This it didn't seem to be that much of a shock anymore because you kind of kind of a spy to be upset year after year. Seems to be a sort of happened you know I think it was and there is a photo I think it was is there any event he was most go about we've lost a few times in the 1st from with the only being the best of 3 and of course painter of still a ways is really on predictable for us rank amateur is getting into that double to finish is often the hardest part of the leg let alone starting it use the now you've done it what is it like when you are up on stage and you're playing under the lights television cameras and you just can't get doubled to start it must be one of the most pressure of situations on the tour yes it was frustrating more than anything and because the tournaments are unique with the format that it is. You know it's not like you sort of used to doing it that much you know really because it's in the main game throughout the Tories 'd straight up. But then again the vanished tournament you know it wouldn't be what it is and you wouldn't get the surprises that you do get right you say there's one seed in and then v.j. That's left. And not you know it's just part parcel of 4 days you know everybody enjoys it I guess because it's frustrating when you don't get off but if you if you get away with a big score then your opponents under pressure stray away I always find it very. You know sort of is sort of commoners a bit because if I didn't get away with the term force I didn't get away that was a thing I would just. Do were molested for got away with 120 great if I didn't get away with a very sharp I don't tend to get off where modern falls into there all the time but yeah it's very unique and you know it is definitely one for the spectators that you know this is you just don't know who's going to do what quarterfinals tonight they will watch with interest what about yourself Jamie bring us up to speed with where you are at the moment because we know it hasn't been the easiest road for you over the last couple of years yeah sure not I've not been on for the it was a back and the rush I think I mentioned it before some some laser eye surgery or any other one I of course. Have some laser treatment 'd to 'd sort of was looking after my even lose the saw him a good average has obviously sort of disasters that don't go gray I've recently had a bit of extra just to top it all just to make sure there's no issue 'd this is all diabetes related of course and we say that you know you try to live your best with you have to try and sort of make that revolve around your life rather than. Revolving around the diabetes life if you like should you know when these things these things need attention in a detention tired type of thing it was only on Monday I actually went at it done. And they were over the moon with a whistle is literally in there for about 15 minutes and it was a really quick job so hopefully now I should put me in good stead of the most of the year on on my own forbidden or over the place again up and tossed Radia into your load times I'm actually going to Ireland tomorrow for a long 'd weekend just like submissions and stuff so my bookings a still going on but I'm not going doing too much professional that. Can come back around to January after the World Championships probably have another crack at it well it's good to hear in good spirits. Healthwise Jamie that absolutely is 1st and foremost and we look forward to seeing you hopefully back on the pro tour and just quickly we know that you are heavily involved with the dance academy with Davey as well and you've often spoke about how excited you are about the the upcoming prospects how is a leg going fabulous it is good and stronger and stronger. Radio Darby Fat Boy Slim this is praise you. Don't Boys women praise you on b.b.c. Radio Darby talking all of internationals Liam Boyce also on the bench for Northern Ireland their away in Rotterdam deceiving taking on the Netherlands should be a really good game that Northern Ireland doing so well in a group with some big hitters Germany in there as well joint leaders actually Germany in Northern Ireland the Dutch 3 points behind Northern Ireland but a tough one for Michael O'Neill side this evening just to bring you some thoughts from the New England cricket head coach Chris Silverwood who intends to switch the team priority to Test cricket over the next couple of years despite England winning the 50 over World Cup this summer Silverwood wants the team to win the Ashes in Australia in 2 years' time he's been speaking to the B.B.C.'s cricket correspondent Jonathan Agnew I was something of a lot of responsibility for players to see obviously take responsibility for their own game. Play themselves like a ball structure around 7 to test what I see give a best opportunity to succeed. What it actually mean I mean there will be the same sort of response responsibility given to the players to make sure of it by taking ownership of their own games but I'll be put in a structure in or around the practice to make sure of it they come out when it's about players and when and. But it's yeah I mean I'm pretty relaxed as you know as Trevor was so what Me too different you know how will your relationship with the players change on the bowling coach with a bag of bowls and that's part of that that job but now how does the route that relationship changed you think. Obviously I will be stepping back a little bit that has to be that gap between you and players while you still try many times that saw you close enough or you can help them and they can come to you but as I said earlier it's important to me that the players know of a society Chris turning up. They have confidence and that's what England's new cricket head coach Chris silver word with the B.B.C.'s Jonathan Agnew that's a very under-rated question yet what does that actually mean in sport politics life . Coming up next then Mountain Williams And the top floor on b.b.c.
