It's 57 degrees Fahrenheit b.b.c. Radio it's 4 minutes past 8. Weekend breakfast with our last b.b.c. Radio dog a very good morning to. Look it out though and oh my goodness Ray It's really one of those very Tom No mornings have you seen it and we've seen the knife angel it arrived this week made up of a 100000 weapons handed in as part of a police surrender isn't it. Pretty shocking actually soon we're going to be chatting to a man from who is stops in 2009 while working as a doorman and he's going to be telling us his story weekend Brad 1st we've gone on our last call b.b.c. Radio Daldry. Them in. The book. Wow wow wow wow. Wow. The hours. I can make you feel good it's 9 minutes past I see that we come back for show on b.b.c. Radio now have you seen it yet the knife Angel has arrived in it's a 27 foot sculpture made up of 100000 bladed weapons handed in as part of a police surrender schemes across the country and is in its temporary home next to Dalby cathedral volunteer is it working as marshals that talking to people about the importance of the knife angel and why we need to be talking about knife crime one of those the volunteers is called more from a quiz who was stops in 2009 while working as a doorman in Darby Good Morning Call Good morning Donna good morning. Before we actually talk about the knife Angel itself can you just tell me your story plays. Yes My story is 2009 some of the city was working as a door supervisor for the walkabout bar in Dalby. I was approached by a male thing is late forty's. It was bleeding from the one of his ears I think the left ear at the time. He was staggering he come up to me from a colleague on the door the time said are you going to let me in there I'm going to kill somebody if you stop me help kill you will obviously you're not going to let somebody that's all for that kind of reason and not only that I want even open. I was getting ready to go to the student not we started about 9 o'clock and this was about 15 or so after of huffing and puffing that I have to chew decided to walk off. And then he called back again really aggressive. Spit in foaming from the mouth calling me every name under the sun your heart in somebody saying you're hiding somebody I know they're in love and I explain to them that we're not open there's nobody in there was done this it's all gone it's just cleanest I mean it's really aggressive in my face and I know he went for me not to push him away because he was ready to tell me basically So anyway I stopped in his tracks we decided to walk off I passed along to the radio watching the recent keepin on the stars something about him I said I don't like him. Is mannerism everything about after you know so I can rest of this you gotta watch out for him so he said yeah no worries will keep an eye on him. And then at the end of the road you start to shout and again you're going to come back and shoot me so. We've got to wait in the walkabout door that's probably about 10 to 20 people. At most of it 1520 minutes later. I was talking to the people in the area when I'm going back to well known to me resigning from to the columns in the not to the building of the front of the building Ok. In front of the screen. Is I've got you know obviously small office across on the radio and I've got this on to the most from work the cold and then you went for me again well I didn't realise it was not our fault it was a bar right when I was staff. Started from a lot of. It said it's a deeply disturbing story the fact that it happened in the obviously but it sort of talking about your life and how does it affect your everyday life. Well I mean I get p.t.s.d. Obviously you know our desire for all of this and I see as a guy I still get it specially for his daughter and you know from ambulances police cause. Obviously anxiety. Is specially in crowded places you know a lot. Of them and then obviously my house as well because of the probably free golf ball sized tennis ball sized holes in your stomach Oh well I just put the mesh across my stomach in obviously you know these are saving surgery on me now. That was back in 2000 and oversee now we've got the knife Angel in Dobie there I mean yesterday that there would there were massive crowds that little made it was was an absolutely overwhelming I know you're working that as a volunteer how do you how do you think something like this can how we've all heard about knife crime obviously hearing your stories is just deeply shocking to hear it but how do you think something like this is actually going to help and get to the root of the problem well it's raising awareness that Selar there of it I mean this is also much more of a crime but at the moment I mean it's on the rise especially in the city you know every day you read the paper or listen to the news you know something's happened somebody has been stabbed you know or you know this is just nasty out there it's absolutely horrible and it's going to do I think brilliant. You know this is what happens this is these are the last years on the streets another been confiscated and they will tell your story. It's raising awareness I mean it's making people realize a sense of fact it sends a shiver down the spine. To talking about it you know it shocked a lot of people because I believe I mean people were crying you know and I just love the messages were left as well and it is it's it's shocking and it's emotional but it's it's so well it's nice they're really still. Well I know you've been volunteering and you going to continue telling your story because though as you said it is a pretty shocking piece of OSs if that's what you can call it but when you say it. Is just really shocking Kamel thank you so much for coming on to talk about your story that was call from Quit who was stabbed in 2009 while working as a doorman Darby and now we've all interior woodwork is a martial out the knife Angel which is it is temporary next to Darby Cathedral if you haven't seen it it's $27.00 foot and it's made up of $100000.00 bladed weapons handed in as part of police surrender schemes across the country it really really is shocking in the crowds down there yesterday lunchtime when like 20 deep people just trying to say it costs a lot of people they're getting very very emotional indeed down at the knife Angel next to doll because. We thought we would. I feel about this. Pretty confident beauty products to make. I always giggle what we do these things. Every weekday morning from. Well talking of the terrible twosome that. It was the bath Illuminations last night they were both there. Sally was dressed as a mermaid now I have no say no photographic evidence of this so not sure if it actually happened or not but I'm sure Sally and Twiggy will tell you both. Go on I did see some video footage of twig each one a row against the top. So I'm sure he'll tell you the full story tomorrow and then Steve Jordan from 3 o'clock tomorrow is joined by a. Tiny Christiane's going to say Steve Jordan Steve Jordan is joined by tiny Christy tomorrow from 3 o'clock now churches are to get advice on how best to deal with sex and relationship if she's when talking to young people Sarah Smith from The Christian charity ice that's u.k. Which champions that wellbeing and self-esteem will call on them to be open and honest when she addresses the delegates at the Christian resource exhibition next week and Sarah Smith joins me now Sara how well equipped a church is to deliver sex education. Well some churches are already doing a great job in talking about relationships but I think a lot of touches it's just not on their waiter and we support for 3 providing parents but those both findings but youth workers and leaders by that they are able to have already good health for conversations with young people about relationships in fact and we would say that parents of the time we educate to provide children but when they come to work to likely won't support them by Sometimes I haven't had a good relationship with sex education and all they have a little bit behind the times when it comes to technology turns the technology that their children to you think it's really important that the church decided to create by the for these kind of work shop and training to happen now so I know that some churches of the have very traditional views on issues like I was sexuality and oversee sex before marriage as well how is that sort of navigation is being in the church framework Well I'm I think that it's really important that churches open up conversations I think sometimes that can be kind of affair talking about relationships and sex generally his church leaders may know that his needs within their congregation and so rather than I cannot the conversation they might not have the conversation that will but I think that we just need to wake up to the fact the members of that conversation might be struggling with relational if you think young people and and and not necessarily think as a site space to talk with someone about that you know which is that isn't it we want to be like this to talk about the issues that we're facing so I think the church does need to get back to understanding the life no one's sexual landscape we're living in especially sons of technology as well and issues around. Not to say that his porn is something that is really influencing a lot of young people even if they're not watching it but I were me and I mean we had a year knowing. Well I have to watch porn because if I don't want to pull I won't know how to do tricks and if I don't know how to do tricks I won't be able to keep her boyfriend and stuff so much going on in that statement in terms of how she feels about her about what she thinks it means to have a boyfriend she faxes So it's really important that the church understands what's going on in the lives of young people and able to create a safe spaces to have conversations about. Sarah's threat from the Christian charity I set you can I thank you very much for joining me on b.b.c. Radio. 'd 'd Yes thank. You. Thank. You Thank You. Thank you thank. You thank you thank. You. Thank you thank. You. Thank. You. Thank you thank you thank you thank you. Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank. You Thank You Thank You Thank You Thank You Thank You. I'm surprised that playing today actually isn't a very square and a 1st isn't it so you might be in luck again and get up there I know because we've seen the we're just seeing the back edge of the main sort of heavy rain that was with us overnight that's pulling away a little bit further eastwards as we speak and then there are quite a few heavy showers coming in behind again more prolonged sort of fears of rain as the merging together today there could be a little bit of brightness breaking through and will become breezy into the afternoon and temperatures today will be in the region of 15 Celsius across dogshit and East Africa and then it does become dry for a time through the evening and overnight a few close pals developing tonight temperatures dropping down to a minimum of 12 but by the early hours the cloud is increasing again and we've got our next. Area of rain moving in this one not quite so heavy but it's a little bit more broken as it comes in but it will still obviously keep things quite wet on and off through the daytime on Monday and become quite breezy tomorrow quite windy at times say we'll see the temperatures probably close to 14 Celsius but quite a blustery sort of off to new install. Ready Dobby news in sport it's 25 minutes tonight. We've gone. Radio Dobby travel. Well the good news is the roads are moving pretty well according to the traffic sensors will start around albeit self Levitin around the ring road seems to be moving quite lightly. All the key routes in the roundabouts such as markets in Ireland that lead to. The spider islands are looking out if it was the northern region around the likes of. Ripley things are moving smoothly now major delays around just seeing. Them bridge through stands and by bridge the reason for that is to take you know some road works on the stretch of the I 5 on forward it's really nothing to troublesome So it's looking pretty decent everywhere and that includes the m one which is moving fine in both directions and public transport started off well today as well regarding buses on the trains but if you can update our information 10456 want 6 Want to that would. Be trouble. With. It's a promo for the breakfast show join me every weekday morning from 6 for all the news and sport you need to know and I'll summarize your son snow I am still. Really it's mostly traffic updates from across any stuff. But don't forget. The out about hearing what you have to say. Plus. The present. Very well to the new gold star. From 6 b.b.c. Radio. If you listen to that again make sure you listen to Heidi Bates scathing what she says yeah well done. And she says and such a way that you know. He will be back tomorrow morning when you wake up now new music from the boys and. This is during the land. Pet Shop Boys a years and years and dreamland it is name is a hair on b.b.c. It write it off it really like that song now an estimated $100.00 comet change activists from Darbyshire and Leicester a travelling to London today occasionally collecting members of extinction rebellion from Chesterfield Wirksworth belt and Darby before travelling Celeste at a joint ongoing protests in London Edward Pickering signed This is originally from London but he's been living in Darby for 25 years and they've crossed a is a grandad and his cycle to send opens over the past few days he's hoping it's who arrive in London today a very good morning to you both morning air Good morning and Edward 1st of all cannot ask you why did you decide to join these protests in London Ok Well I'm frankly terrified about food and water shortages in just a few years when I was a child I knew about something called global warming but I didn't realise that it had been allowed to turn into the 6 mass extinction basically scientists now. Listen to me it's frankly scary that politicians are just carrying on with business as usual as well as big companies who are mainly the people responsible for polluting our waterways our air and building up c o 2 to intolerable levels so basically we're reduced to protesting giving up our time and going and even actually doing nonviolent direct action which means putting ourselves in the way of these kind of big polluters actually making a stand because the marches in the petitions not really done enough so I'm sort of looking at the next stage what are your plans in London and the next couple of days Ok so the plan is to shut down certain roads and take certain sites this time around great and the people in power in Westminster Ok so they're the people will be bothering the people will be trying to negotiate with because obviously we've tried you know all sorts of wonderful charities over the years political movements also that people have tried now we're going to have to actually be there in their face until they talk to us. Are you finding that the public opinion may be swaying against you said about the the blocking the roads and things I mean we we do know that's very frustrating for ordinary people who may great with what you're saying so you sort of you have been sort of targeting the normal person on the straight but it sounds like you're changing tack a little bit yes because. A lot has to be disruption we have to make everybody stop and think but this time we need to bring it home to the politicians because the u.k. Parliament declared a climate emergency in response to the last time we shut down London and I think pro but they're not actually done a thing not changing policy they're still fracking they're still not changing transport they're still not putting pressure on the fashion industry to stop polluting the world everything seems to be carrying on as normal and they're obsessed with things which seem very short term in politics a lot of people a bit dismayed with politicians there's no sense of direction so here's a wide open space in quiet actually good time to show people an alternative way what about the argument that the moment we've got 3 weeks until this place believing the what about the argument that politicians just need to get on without finance and then come November see what happens you know what we've been waiting for them to sort out haven't we either way and they haven't and actually with with a very weak government and also a lot of confusion as to say people are sort of lost any kind of sort of respect for parliamentary process we want democracy we want that to continue and it won't continue if we have all the things that the climate scientists are warning us about Ok I'm going to bring in Dave now who is on a bike instant old Bens David why did you decide decide to do this cycle. I mean it is such a well and eloquently put across the main arguments you know to me on the ground you know I look at. My youngest grandchild thin you know thing that will be 85 the end of this century and I want to be able to look him in the face and say that I did everything possible to stop the climate catastrophe you know scientists are telling us is coming our way and we can see in parts of the world is already happening particularly with the bike ride I want you to do want to 2 things which is to draw attention to the role that transport and the way that we travel and the fact that you know so many people are traveling so far is having on. Impact on the climate and also to highlight you know the fact that the other options to particularly driving and flying So for example public transport walking and cycling are frankly in adequately funded and you know some of the cycling infrastructure that I've been using on my way down to London is pitiful and if we are going to give people a choice and it is very much about choice then we have to make those choices realistic we have to invest in public transport massively we have to make it easy for people to walk and in particular to cycle around our cities so that's why I'm doing I can I we don't want to saying that you oversee a grandfather you said you're 66 years old I mean we see a lot of these 757 you can add any other. Day you have a real 67 something I'm so sorry that's what is the right thank you typologies Well we'll send you a card on your 67. But you know a lot of the Climate Change protesters are young obviously we've got an aggressive sort of leading the way for the younger generation but it's interesting you said there that it's you feel guilty for you your grandchildren. I I feel responsible that's what I feel I feel is responsible for what I'm handing over to my daughter and to my grandchildren I take you know huge We hear so much in the media about people you have to take responsibility for your actions well people involved in extinction rebellion are doing exactly that they're taking responsibility and they're saying actually I want to hand over a world that I can feel proud of to my children and my grandchildren and frankly the way that we are carrying on at the moment we cannot allow cannot have business as usual because the world we will hand them is just unimaginably horrible. Dave the argument that causing disruption for hundreds of people thousands of people say who really do agree with you cause and maybe doing their bit at home and everything worried that the tide is going to turn and people are going to get scared frustrated with the protests and just want to see some action I am of course you know nobody wants to cause disruption to anybody and I think you know this action has been in. For months and there's been extensive liaison with the police over where it's going to be and as Ed would you know really clearly said we are targeting in London the key decision making body and organization and you know the reality is that if we don't change dramatically very very soon now all the inconvenience that will be caused across the planet will far outweigh any inconvenience that is happening over these protests in and around Westminster and yes that is regrettable and nobody wants disrupt anybody but we've got to get it home who pay people particularly those in power how the depth of the change that we need to make in order to get our grandchildren a future. Day because we've done we thank you very very much indeed cycling to London the moment Edward is still in the studio with me I just finally feel Edward is this all your protest going to make the change that you so desperately want what we see we stand on the shoulders of people in history who changed things Martin Luther King he had to do peaceful protests and he in turn was following Mahatma Gandhi who managed to peacefully protest against a very oppression for a gene actually the British Empire and also you know. We're making a big Changed of lifestyle and how people look at things but not just individuals big powerful companies but change can happen I'm look at the suffragettes you know you know. 100 years ago most people thought women shouldn't vote I thought that one educated enough how crazy is that and now we're looking at this this situation very weird climate scientists saying they're politicians and big business carrying on with that and oh yeah you need to buy something and everything everything will be fine you just recycle now it's much bigger than that we have to act now and it was Pickering signs and David on the phone who is cycling to London thank you very much . wrong the wild that's it from maybe I am off to find my wellies and my rain jacket and stand on the I would want it so I'd like touch lime pitch side I have no idea of an 8 year old's football game in the pouring rain so wish me luck have a great Sunday often a good try and avoid those showers I'll be back of a solid on Thursday from now on. T.v. . It's 9 o'clock and Kelly Smith Boris Johnson has urged the e.u. To show that it's willing to compromise with the u.k. To come to the negotiating table in a spirit of compromise and cooperation lobby as prime minister Christiane is to Congress now is positive about the deal if Boris Johnson takes the right approach it certainly is possible but it depends upon one crucial element that Mr Johnson as well as you are willing and ready to move on a compromise man if the offer from the u.k. Turns out to be a sort of take it or leave it it's going to be very difficult I see in agreeing. The chief executive of adoption wildlife just has described our national report on the commission of wildlife and wild spaces in Britain as depressing the state of nature a poor 200-1000 shows 41 percent of you can species did it have to climb since 1970 some species on the brink of vanishing altogether don't you Jane Smith see a lot just says more work needs to be done to safeguard existing was one of the things our wildlife struggles with is just these little pockets of violence that's very vulnerable and to change the fires of alert so changes in our climber or pressures from development so we need more of those spaces but we also need them to be connected or life can move around and act when they're under pressure there's been an overwhelming reaction to the knife Angel school in Darby the $24.00 foot figure made up of 100000 bladed weapons handle it as part of plea surrender screams around because they drilled this week come all from I could was stabbed in 2009 he was a volunteer marshal yesterday when Huge crowds gathered to look at it so much money .
