It's 4 o'clock am Alina Naylor opposition parties meeting at Westminster have to find it not to propose a no confidence vote this week to try to bring down Boris Johnson's government after discussing how to prevent a no deal Bragg's it parties including labor the s.n.p. And the Greens said they would instead press for more emergency debates on breaks in Parliament or Conservative M.P.'s or at their party conference in Manchester. Bars Johnson spoken publicly for the 1st time about the allegation he squeezed a journalist 20 years ago Charlotte Edwarda says it happened during a lunch at the Spectator magazine asked whether it was true the prime minister said simply no the housing secretary Robert general says he accepts that response the promise is denied it and I think we have to take him at his word on the promise to going to be clear where I would be very ill advised them to make such a categorical denial unless that was the truth of the situation so I given that I don't know Charlotte but I do know the prime minister that we have to proceed on the basis of his very clear statement at the Conservative Party conference in Manchester the chancellor Sabah Japhet is I'm betting his plans for what he's calling an infrastructure revolution to include a 25000000000 pound fund for rights and changes to the National Minimum Wage Dobby County Captain Richard Kay I could be out for 15 months with a serious knee injury it's understood he's ruptured his a.c.l. And m c l and any be fit enough to play in December of next year sustained the injuries on the night of a crash that led to team mates Tom Lawrence and Mason Bennett facing charges for drink driving. Some car parking charges Emberton and you talk to are to go up sharply local council looks to balance its books you staff a job or a council is considering a 40 percent increase in some locations Here's our political reporter Chris story the plan being recommended is to increase the minimum charge for 2 hours parking at places like Cooper square and Burton on the Mall tings in new talks that are it'd go up from one pound to one pound 40 the 1st increase in 2 years the council says it would mean the charge being linked to inflation but only if the charges then frozen for 5 years the council's also looking into letting people pay through an app and more machines that take contactless payments a coroner has asked for next year's hearings into the deaths of 22 people in the Manchester I mean a bombing to be replaced with a public inquiry has written to the home secretary if the request is granted evidence from m I 5 and the police could be heard behind closed doors finally a look at the weather clout that in this afternoon with rain starting to move in from the southwest it will be widespread by the end of the day highs reaching 16 degrees Celsius $61.00 Fahrenheit around now b.b.c. Radio Dobby news it's 3 minutes past 4. Gentlemen on b.b.c. Radio Darby. I have got plenty for you to look forward to this afternoon still to come my very special guest today is Steve from my really and they are celebrating a big anniversary is 40 years for him in the band 30 years for the other states they're coming to tour in the East Midlands and we're hearing all about that plus we've got even more t.v. News for you going on and I discovered this weekend that I am incredibly competitive when it comes to playing things like crazy golf and we're finding out why it is costing us more on average to go out than ever before so all of that to look forward to before 6. Indaba share these Staffordshire gems almost on b.b.c. Radio travel. Always saying someone you should rely on the north side of the. Place the could be a problem there that we're not yet to know what's causing the keys I will be gamey than I'm just a my men. Want to live in a little bit better at the broken down. On the south Pan Am one at that junction has been the new building away from Junction 26. 27 looking and feeling very basic Now at the loss of lots of traffic. It's also a lot of work and away in the Norman Normanton Petry I am proud of the city and really busy out it made. Me on the button 511 as what continues if you don't havea tight 601456161. Baby say the travel. Love Quain that was your my best friend on b.b.c. Radio Darby they were the band that I 1st fell in love with when I was little to the extent I used to bash the record player until my parents played it again and I'd be in trouble and stood by the telly whenever the Bahamian Rhapsody video was on just staring at it for hours on end whenever it was on. The end of everybody in the office that day it feels like I know that 20 was saying earlier on he was very jealous about my celebrity guest and so is Wesley one of the nice Raiders they've all been coming up to me just absolutely green at the gills I've managed to speak to this next person so I'm really in heading out on tall with a string quartet and it's a mark 40th of the band so it is 30 years for the firm and Steve Hogarth but I had a chat with the guitarist Steve rather a about how it feels to reach such a landmark milestone but it's quite surreal radio suppose you never think when you saw that in about that it's going to last that long obviously Skylark a proper job. But the great thing is that I still enjoy it as much as I ever did and it's you know it's a best job in the world really to be involved with other creative people and come up with new music and to write the people around the world it's just I can't think of any anything better you could hope to do with your life is a matter of yourself or you're thinking it's still. Going to being so yeah doing it I think when you're young musician you know you don't really look to the future that's why you'll sign any piece of paper that's pretty front of you. To learn that the hard way you do. What we can. But you know as you as you get older and hopefully wiser you can start to get some perspective. In some respects you know you have more control over your career and therefore you can enjoy it in a different way and with this tour it's there with friends from the orchestra tour what can we expect from the show what he got planned well playing again with a great string quartet in praise of folly from Belgium and a couple of amazing women players flautist. And French horn players some summerise and if anybody seen any any of the clips from a. D.v.d. From the Royal Albert Hall couple years ago it's very much a similar kind of presentation you know my country a producer has come up with these arrangements with the with the strings and home players and it really adds another dimension it's not like when you see about it with an orchestra which can maybe be a little bit. Over the top maybe with a with a quartet it's just like adding textures to the music and extra melodies to the arrangements and I think it's worked out really well we've actually just released a video today on the t.v. From one of the songs Estonia recorded at real world studios with with the quartet and that void album Hoshi I was in it that time it was the fastest selling concert of your career that must've been quite something to to say it was incredible Yeah I think it sold out in 45 minutes or something stupid. So yeah of course I mean returning in front of a couple shows in November only 18 to 19 and you've always had such an incredibly dedicated fan base having I mean was in the late 990 s. Your fan sponsored the entire us toll that was when they donated the money for that So is it what's it like for you to see that dedication and the support from the fans how it's fantastic it's a reason we still exist you know when we went to the fans in at the end of the night is to get them to pay for an album before we made it basically invented crowdfunding and you know it's been the model that lots of musicians have you since and you see that wherever you go in the world you have the passion and love for this band that is just beyond compare I mean you can see on the Royal Albert Hall. You know I don't I haven't been to one of anyone else's concerts where that where the band and audience have that sort of ripple you really did adopt the internet quite early compared to everyone else you say you know there was the album The really in dot com You kind of did things in your own terms did you realize at that time that what you were doing was so groundbreaking Not really I mean you you know you kind of think it's going to be important but you have no you know you have a crystal ball you've no idea just how important the Internet is going to be in every way from their prime. The music to this creation of the global community of your fans and the way that people consume music you know there was a lot of paranoia. 10 years ago about downloading and harming you know music sales but these days most people under 30 stream music on demand anyway so given the whole industry very much changed and with fortunate that we've. We've used technology to grow our fan base and you know we're in a very strong position we can't really complain my very special guest on Today show you that was the 1st bad from Stephen rather of Meridian who I spoke earlier on today talking about the 40th anniversary in the band as a heading out on the road with a string quartet so cool so I had to play you some the radio. Mary really and Caylee they've had some incredible songs have an inkling that and that I have and my very special guest for this afternoon is Steve rather a from the band because they're heading out on top with a string quartet because it's 40 days of no really into They've had 18 studio albums 14 of them including the front man Steve Hogarth So I asked the guitarist the other state role there how difficult it is to narrow down the songs when they have such an incredible back catalogue and how difficult is it to decide what songs make it into the set Well it is a bit of a problem really trying to you know you try and obviously reflect your last studio album you want some tracks people you know people are going to want to hear and then you just try and create a good balance of of music with this top but with that with the 1st quartet you know we had the music we'd already played with them the same music that so many well. And this is another couple of things as well that we will be fine with them for the 1st time so. You know you it's maybe a like a couple of weeks of conversations and trying different things before you settle on the definitive set list but once you do that quite often it's stays like that for most of the tour and I know we mentioned about there we have a whole show how quickly that sold out about the crowd funding the happened over the last 40 years or so I wore the particular highlights for you are there any moments that stand out that you look back on it just with absolute pride Well this was when you had a band it's so many miles some events you know from the 1st time you hear yourself on the radio 1st time you have a singer of the charts 1st time ever number one album you know selling out hummus with already you know or Wembley. You know 1st time Utah abroad you know if you're an English band you're any of a British band I should say you've only really toured around the u.k. And you know the 1st time you go on to mainland Europe and the whole case like North and South America. You know it's a fantastic experience. You know the perspectives it keeps you on on life I think. So I think this together just so many highlights. It's almost impossible to. Its Own Kind of me to put you on the spot but when you've got so much to choose from what's what's left on the bucket list then what would you love to do was a band is there anything you would still like to achieve Well personally I'd love to tour in Australia and New Zealand we almost went there in the mid eighties but we didn't and we haven't had a chance since. I just think you know it's all right on my personal bucket list to see those countries and then for in terms of this tour in the show and I mention about having that the string quartet but if there's anybody listening they've not seen you live before what should they expect from a Marine show how would you describe it for the uninitiated I think it's a great live band we have an amazing lighting engineer. It's great Sam and. It's impressive That's all I can say here and with so many clips on You Tube you can get an idea of how well the band works live but you know there still are an incredible chemistry between us as musicians and a great energy and passion in what we do Steve rather a from really and they're talking head of their toll celebrating 40 years now is a very exciting time for t.v. Fams. Not the x. Factor. It's been announced today that there is a celebrity version that is starting and the contestants have all been announced. Personally I feel like they are stretching the remits of what included celebrities in the list so father is a talk show host Ricki Lake who I recognize the chase is Jenny Ryan the redhead Victoria and actress the journalist Martin Bashir that is a load of reality stone mega Macand Haley household a soap star. Film star Livia Olsen he might recognize as the young girl from Love Actually who the young boy had a crush on the actor Kevin McHale He was in the t.v. Series Glee I feel like he might have an unfair advantage seeing as the whole show was about singing and dancing but then there were the groups there's the island is which features 4 of the contestants from Love Island there is trying to stall which is 3 athletes and the rugby player is Colin Edwards which is Brendan Cole from Strictly and Jeremy Edwards plus Social Media Stars and c.b.c. Present is Max and Hall they may need or I'm not sure when v. Phone leave which is Syfy alone Drug Law Wendy and today I guess we're just going to the tune in to find out. Don't want to be here it's no point getting players and you know on who's unsure about because when you get players in you need the right ones as long as they have for for a longer period of their strikers but there were there weren't the ones we wanted and we couldn't get that one wanted and what else is going on today Scotland have kept their hopes of reaching the knockout stages of the Rugby World Cup They beat Samoa 34 nil crucially scoring 4 tries to secure an all important bonus point and move up to 3rd in pool a his head coach Greg the next on performance we would have loved it listen to being in the 2nd option the game got destructed a lot of stoppages scrum resets and penalties but we stuck to our task and were delighted to get there the maximum points and Britain's $400.00 beats a run of Martin Rooney has criticised the lack of crowds at the World Athletics Championships in Doha He says the odds have dropped the ball a bit meanwhile 100 mi to silver medalist Deena Smith has won her 200 meter heat to go through to the semifinals fellow Brits Jody Williams and best also made it through. Football a nail Roddick and the Olympic gold medalist Greg Rutherford and they get to be cooking into tape intense not intense it will be intense but in actual fabric tents on top of the white cliffs of Dover and from what I've seen of this series Joey Essex I think is my favorite There was a bit where he was saying that he wasn't sure that time was a herb and he was saying a Michigan star instead of a Michelin star I'm still not convinced that he's quite as as vague as he makes out that he is because he was a little bit of a coincidence that you put the wrong Herb's in and they just so happen to taste lovely I mean we do know people who are accidentally get it things which can be very annoying but he seems to be doing well so far he's made. Through to the 1st semifinals will have to wait and say and then. There is a confession so is episode following in the series and it's Detective Superintendent Steve full He faces a formal complaint about his conduct in an effort to bring a killer to justice tonight's episode will show the praise he receives from the media for catching a killer contrast with him dealing with a complaint made against him so I think the whole theme of the show is just how far would you go it's kind of get the royal answer even if it means potentially losing everything and earlier when we were talking about this news that the celebrity x. Factor is coming back even though I think some of the celebrities are quite the hey I'm not sure I have heard of most of them I recognize Ricki Lake and one of the chases from the t.v.
