And push us forward yet the men up Libya men also as Marcus have weird and Bernadino even Risto have been named as the joint winners of the 200-1000 Booker Prize last night after the judges broke the competition's rules by disc declaring a tie the pair will split the 50000 pounds prize after the panel insisted they couldn't separate the entries at which he was recognized for her sequel to The Handmaid's Tale book called The testaments is the oldest ever winner while Eva Risto is the 1st black woman to win for her novel girl woman other Margaret Atwood said she was actually glad she'd won with another author it would have been quite embarrassing. For me. And a good Canadian as we don't do famous we think it's a bad taste. And would have been embarrassing if I had been alone here. Sports news now and over 6000 fans watched England's under 20 side take on the Czech Republic at London Road last night the Czechs secured a comfortable 3 nil win it's the 1st time international football has been played in Peterborough since 2016 in icehockey Peterborough coach Slava Krulak offset his side must cherish their 1st full point weekend of the new season phantoms beat Sheffield and Milton Keynes to move up to 4th in the National Division table the weather for Cambridge now will be largely dry and cloudy today but it could brighten up later on as maximum temperatures 16 degrees Celsius or $61.00 degrees Fahrenheit there's more from us on Facebook of course such b.b.c. Radio came but it's 5 minutes past 7. Games which share the cam Lawrence Bragg fish . On b.b.c. Radio Cambridge Good morning and welcome to choose that can we are and on b.b.c. Radio Cambridge Yeah the only good news said I but he got half a hello hello it was a Without a doubt this is b.b.c. Radio came for the date is the 15th of October we know that. It's the 31st of October and next we're going to be asking the business community of Cambridge are you ready for brakes it was because a lot of people I'm looking forward to doing during such which go back to this dilemma that we set an hour ago yeah go on Kevin smiling thinking about it you're the only other parent in this year in this radio one little book about non-parent and the non-parent Jefferson Parish Katherine let me just repeat that the dilemma in the book Brooke is my daughter she's 15 and she said to me Dad can I sell my x. Box you brought me for my birthday I need some money for my trip to London with my friends I hardly use the x. Box anyway so should I or shouldn't I let her do that. It's such a tricky one because she did ask for it as a probably as a birthday present she does have the right as a teenager I think to change her mind because they do you do that's an adult. Quite enterprising I think sounds like you're saying I'm going to say overall yes but I understand you're a little bit gutted about it and they all are you thing. I rums reporting about this for an hour yesterday so not all are still stuck on the fence a very nice really really go. Yes she's been grown up enough to ask you if she can do it so she's been on ice and she's been honest and upfront about what she needs the money for yeah if you've got Julius as saying I'd say no it's clearly she really wanted in the 1st place I explained I think she needs to earn the money for her trip and that's a lesson to saying that she's clearly mature and grown up enough to ask and is very responsible if it's a school trip I would or would be more lenient it's not a school trip it's with a ship with I might say yes gal and then if that's what she wants I need an automatic as you've not given us and also I don't know how you can vote and I know you're so on the Fed cut down a bit so I don't very apparent Yeah and I think it is really good at what you show you go ahead is how do you know you know that I can answer I show you show that you are nowhere near ready for parenthood yet it is just this every day and night and day and that is all I know but you know what might be on the right if paranoid because that is the site. I feel free to comment on I want triple 3 cam the new message if you are in my shoes what would you do which is that you are going to sell it but I would really want to do that my 1st instinct is no would you say yeah go on and sell it and you know spend the money on whatever you want that's one of the neighbors when we come back to this again just after half past 7 this morning people see right there came a shot it's now 7 o. I told b.b.c. Radio Cambridge here this is Macand Laurence breakfast show. So it is crunch time in the BRICs it talks in a matter of days will find out if the e.u. Accepts Boris Johnson's deal or if the prime minister is to be forced ask for another extension and today we're looking at looking at how Cambridge is preparing for bricks it are you ready do you run a company do you work in a business that really needs to be looking at themselves and asking that very question all we ready for a break said the county has a thriving mix of small businesses and global corporations Here's our political. Also had almost certain looking at some of the issues they could face those that actually no business in came which it won't be affected by pricks it's how much they were affected will depend on the size and type of business but there are a few key areas that companies are preparing for one of the major concerns is the important exports of goods and services if we lead the Customs Union and single market on the 31st of October then the e.u. Will start coming out checks on British kids for the 1st time in the short term at least this will mean more paperwork and could lead to delays at ports like Felixstowe could possibly lead to traffic problems and supply routes being disrupted then the staff and particularly how employing e.u. Workers could be affected Another consideration is what is going to happen to packed in and labeling but at the moment may refer to e.u. Safety requirements Similarly there's copyright trademark some patrons to consider as well as how to changes to fuel energy prices could affect profits that's how Olson reporting now if Tyler and his son Allan run a cosmetics company based in Britain in Peterborough they say the uncertainty has been frustrating frustrating and they are convinced it will all end only 31st of October our reporter sure we can arm it has been along to meet the. Way we're going there to fill it up in our opinion. The manufacturing base is this is one of them and then you have the lightly machine they have. Here c.o.v. . Because it's going out. This is a problem packaging it could become the driver which is. To get the bottles here a couple of packaging stays in here because you know it's dry and it's a very sort of ambient temperature we export to sort of the likes of our island Slovenia a very small peripheral. Number of a new countries and again we. I really do too much with Germany France Italy and Spain simply because they like their own homegrown stuff and again the likes of Powell and we buy from Poland we do shit loads I mean containers to. Stay to the Far East the government I am in Japan all those countries so weird if you said. Sorry no brakes it was his the challenge diversified be ready if you do something you've got to move around to try and replace that income and we doing it anybody can only prepare for what they couldn't see do legally at the moment the Yanks are making provision by opening up a subsidiary in Poland so we've got to run to almost 2 parallel businesses or regulator offices what you've initially got you to do c.p.s. Sells which is across better products like to report then you have to at the moment but just on the same p.n.p. Which is the cosmetic product notification portal in the e.u. That goes through the f.c.c. Which is the chemical sort of agency for Europe but if it happens on the 31st all that becomes we can't access anything so therefore what we've got to do is set up something in Poland with a company and somebody that is going to be an approved person. Which we're doing now will be I would there's a sort of board members or suchlike that would have to have somebody is resident fully approved person basically within Europe so we could actually physically sell to island without too many problems it's all doubling up on the site think everything you could bring in more people it will increase your costs things are in place but nobody knows what the reaction it's going to go in that is the frustration is it got to be told or is it going to be 2020 Everybody wants something different there is no common denominator anywhere you know you see just wait for the day they say we're out or would not now Andrew wants. Sinise managing director all Vanstone in stable food which recruits workers from your farms and factories joins me now and you're good morning all in all you're doing fine thank you briefly tell us about your company or your customers. In. General by results but we specialize. 'd in sort of things to the space. Chemical specialist. And I answer yes or no are you ready for another deal breaker. Of course not I mean the hope is. To. Sort of given up what I think about it was an extent just as the best case of finding workers to come here and that is pretty much what you did off the brakes it has been one of the biggie she's I guess for the past 3 years feelin so many people in your position are you finding that people don't want to come here anymore. When you say it's after breakfast epicenter referendum men the counter people told them will come and going on. Every disrupt some. Of the. Time are about the sort of feeling on what some things . That. But 2 types of trees most of one of the young ones are students who come for a year or 2 of the same. Earning as much but I come a 1000 tells. Worrying they are skilled returners who come back year after unit to do specific jobs concern that they're not going to be able to come back and elsewhere where they know they can continue another such a serious impact on us describe the same particular times and you know you describe the impact saying financially it's impacted. It means we can fulfill the jobs that were supposed to be the skilled people we've been used to sing out of the last 20 years Ok. We have to find new people to do jobs. Misconception thanks we worked on skills this mom's. Been working very very particular especially long breaks. And we need to people. But it seems to work I'm able to come back. Ponchos what I know that will be welcomed. Ok so you've evolved line the obstacles that you facing what do you want to happen. Daily the whole thing just to go away but one thing I suppose the biggest concern is being reflex. To legislate forms and agencies and licenses to deal with them and it's not enough already but put it in other people perceive 'd a complaint last month I don't think it's the end of the day we can do something we'll pillars of beneath the table to do the job and also be possible to bring people in before they want to come that's another matter. Andrew Watson thank you very much for your time this morning the Thomas 716 you're listening to b.b.c. Radio came up with discussing and asking. When the b.b.c. Reports on things about where I live or why do you feel it sounds something like this sometimes it even sounds like this and it. Might even sound like it's a song like this if you're in a love. Story. Telling the b.b.c. . If your idea could be seen by people with the u.k. . And in. Competition the competition closes on the 26th of October see the website full time and. The b.b.c. Radio Cambridge good news. Cambridge train station is representing the. World cup of stations today. So one newspaper something trite. About the electric light says been wearing to. The train to London. Good song I love it it was. Next came would you kids have saved a ton of clothes from going into landfill nearly half a ton by children for the primary now one county why competition to encourage more people to recycle fabrics and. Recycle with michael and i Reporter John Vines paid them a visit. Where we can expect this family probably still and of that we've made. A lovely machine gradual distilled of Misrata so the people here. In the playground a moment yet you never write them straight on that is that they have quite an achievement live on the road we certainly have a more very proud as it is a big band and. Rounded up over all the bags in the playground and how many bags you have roughly I don't they didn't tell us how many thanks but we did raise 50 pounds to the school yes and also obviously raise money for the Salvation Army those double whammy right elbow I mean yeah and you had your doubts you were telling me earlier you felt you hadn't thought you enough probably I was so are you worried that we hadn't text no facts but obviously I was known and very happy with the outcome nice to be wrong sometimes and I know the children are especially happy because we had these must all come to school. To present our who are who came at my core the mascot from this operation Oh Michael the mask Oh yeah this whole thing is cold recycled with Michael recycle with Michael and it was the. Markel turned out yes he did and the children in front of the stage one children whom they would make are excited to hear is Michael. Hayes he works for the Salvation Army or state so he came with a group somebody else from the Salvation Army to present our wounds for you recycle with Michael on the top over there we didn't do yeah and the Young says I Geez I thought I'd show well we bring children to come start it for years oh to the movies when they're 11 or say I'm one of the involved I'm doing taking I'm like a black bin bags from all that was it so I sent a letter home to the parents to come for next attached a plastic bag that the Salvation Army had provided and just asked them to fill it and if they needed any more bags just to come in to store and they do good for bad so yeah so they were up to the challenge in other words yes they did very well parents very want to do and I think what we're going to do and a bit later I'm going to talk to a few people as I would because you know some have collected enormous amounts of he has one particular family here feel like you do your Miss America will find out exactly like take a playground might be coming home price because it shows a spate of being lined up now on the playground and this home with a whistle poised so it should be ended by time same as a badge of honor some years back to class but 2 lessons join us I don't care if on exactly how many bags they still don't like to. Know they goes the whistle back him back it's this is pressure all sounds lovely right it's now 723 more. The cabs Laurens breakfast b.b.c. Radio Cambridge. Other stories you witness to this morning M.P.'s have called on European football's governing body to come down hard on poker area of the England players were subjected to racist chanting during last night's euro 2025 the match was halted twice England went on to win 6 nail Tyrone Mings was one of the players who was targeted everybody had the chance. It was disappointing not to tear it clear as day at times but luckily for me it doesn't affect me too much I mean I feel more sorry for the people who feel I have to have an opinion and make those comments but proud of how we responded to it and that we took the appropriate steps and ultimately came through the game. Boris Johnson house perspire in this morning's cabinet meeting until tomorrow while the BRICs it talks continue down a street sources say the delay means ministers will get a more detailed update on the state of negotiations and this story is in a lot of the papers this morning Margaret Ford has just published her 1st novel at the age of 93 a daughter's choice is inspired by a 633 wartime love letters from her late husband Jim and she says she's hoping to also write a sequel to bring the story at the time now 725 have Lawrence breakfast show on b.b.c. Radio Cambridge here next an inquiry by M.P.'s into the collapse of Thomas Cook begins this morning the chief executive Peter Funkhouser who was in charge when the trouble giant went past is the 1st to be questioned Let's speak to our financial analyst Louise Cooper who joins us now good morning 1st up Louise what is the business committee going to want to know well it's going to be quite fiery I mean they have something called the terms of reference which is sort of what they're thinking of asking say you've got the management governance and stewardship of Thomas Cook the remuneration policy what exactly paid the accounting practices lots of criticism of aggressive accounting practices making the position of Thomas Cook look a lot better than otherwise thought and the role of regulators so if you look at Rachel Reeves who's the chair of this committee and what she's said already I mean they're going to be asking questions like How did the business rack up 1200000000 of debt who knew what and for how long about the sort of nature and the deep seated nature of the company's problems could Thomas' book could have been saved should the government have bailed it out but essentially this is you know it's not like this is an isolated incident it comes off the back of Karelian and b a h s n and various other. Accounts. Seeing aggressive accounting schemes and so this is also a you know a company the patent 9000 British jobs at risk and left 150000 Britain stranded overseas and the taxpayers had to partly pick up the the bill for bringing those home so you know expect this to be a pretty critical hearing it kicks off at 9 o'clock this morning there's a lot there to take in the ways listening to what you're saying and you know let's not forget the age queue of Thomas that was in Peterborough there are thousands and thousands of people still coming to terms with the fact that they don't have jobs I see every day on friends of mine on social media. Who is going to appear tonight all it's going to be the century the former the 3 former executives that really run this business so it's the former chief executive Peter Frank Hauser he kicks off at 9 o'clock the former chairman Frank mines men and the former chief financial officer standout Now those are the 3 major roles in any company at the same time you're also going to get the former chair of the order committee that's the committee or a Thomas Cook that are in charge of order to the accounts in approving the accounts and also the former chair of the remuneration committee this is the committee at Thomas Cook who's in charge of paying executives how much should they be paid what their pay should be linked to that sort of thing so it's really going for the juggler in terms of the exacts at Thomas Cook but what also could be interesting is a week today Cheese Day the 22nd of October when ordered to is going to be questioned this is pretty w.c. Ernst and Young a y. There the former auditor's of Thomas Cook and again if you look at what Rachel Reeves the chair of the Business Select Committee has been saying they're going to come in for a rough ride as well she talks about aggressive accounting practices huge amounts of debt and despite that company executives awarding themselves huge bonuses over the last 5 years just on that Luisa let me just come in and. And finally could executives of Thomas Cook be forced to pay back their multi 1000000 pound bonuses Well many people will say they should however getting that to happen is not value you see so it's more complicated yes just in the last 5 years. Executives pocketed 20000000 pounds in bonus is alone in 5 years at a time when Thomas Cook share price all ever did was go down which get a bonus is a supposed to be for good performance not for failure one could well argue they've been receiving bonuses for failure so lots of people will be asking this unfortunately it's much easier to say than to do the pressure though the government is exerting on the order to profession and the pressure the government is exerting on executive pay I think this will be yet more and it will add fuel to the fire that have already been stoked by the failure of Karelia and the failure of b h s n l The failure of Thomas Cook but you always there be a lot of people in the area following that very closely occasionally half past 7 just as they travel across Cambridge. B.b.c. Radio Cambridge long delays between a March in Chatteris this morning on a one for one I live in really way it's because the lorries breaking down on the Mill Hill roundabout so it's heavy on all approaches and in the area this morning recovery work is underway but if you can update me my numbers 080859596 if you're travelling between Peterborough Whittlesea north bank is closed to been from a dog in a doublet because of a flood warning checking a full tin you're looking at delays of around 20 minutes or so now through the works from spittles to get in and the a 10 is heavy southbound towards Cambridge 3 stratum chittering and approaching the traffic lights and turn off the water beach approaches to the house and it roundabout there heavy and looking really busy on. Fordham Road around snail while annexing towards Cambridge and the a 14 it turn off on the buses in March the $3346.56 buses they can stop at Broad Street Tesco in him paid for by the city 3 in 5 services are on diversion because of works on flats in High Street that's the latest mall travel in 15 minutes Thank you Jess Coming up more bricks it news this morning we're asking are you bricks it ready looking at businesses in and around Cambridge sure we'll be hearing from Robert Moore who is a farmer near batting born about the way in 15 minutes on our show down again long Stanton taking the challenge today 10 questions against the clock how long Stanton they keep listening to find out because you right Ok. Radio Cambridge. Your headlines at 730 I'm Catherine Callaway the Sports Minister Nigel Adams said he wants you football's European governing body u.a.e. Box that you bought me for my birthday I need some money to pay for a trip to London I want to be with my friends hardly use anyway so as a parent what I say do I say no more say yes I've got a stock I really need some help some advice put this out there at the top of the show loads people texting in different reactions including Pauline who said Say yes it's great she doesn't want to use it anymore prefers to be outside instance that. Julie says she's not expecting you to just hand over the money for the trip and Paula says I'd say no if she needs money and she can earn it by doing jobs for you cleaning the car tidying the house except cetera Let's. Parent is itself I think. You can see it's. Thank you for sharing some advice for me on this one what do you think. It's. Also for as a present. It shouldn't be so you can decide. When you gave. Her The x. Box with no strings attached. So you're saying she can do what she likes with it yeah she's. 15 year old so she's ready for you to discuss. It seems she will need. Somebody else might want to 2nd hand. Adrian Do you know how long she badgered me to buy this I can wait and weeks and weeks and what annoys me is she going to sell it for quite a lot less than not pay for it. Just so she can have a jolly with her mates in London that you know I hear what people are saying and what you're saying but can you understand the other side of the fact here that actually you know maybe there's a lesson I need to teach here that no she can't buy to just sell a gift because she wants to have fun with it might. It's cost like Ok. Ok thank you for coming on. I'm not convinced I'm not convinced if you have any comments on this will become a bit more time yet. 81 triple 3 and start a message with the word cam What would you do in my shoes apparently 15 year old daughter said Can I sell you a birthday present so she can go out with my still and you're sitting there going as producer and I'm so glad I'm not in his shoes you kind of laughing at my my dilemma he's got a suck out made it go suck out sometimes I did suck it up it's a busy busy morning in terms of sports news there's lots to get proselyte to do it the time now is 736 across Cambridge. B.b.c. Radio Cambridge. Euro 220 qualifying 1st of all England the group leaders won 6 nil away to Bulgaria last night however the match had to be stopped twice as the home fans were warned about the racist abuse and England's black players let's hear from England manager Gareth Southgate nobody should have to experience what players experienced we've followed the protocol I think we've managed to make 2 messages one their football gave a huge message and secondly we had the game stopped twice I know for some people that won't be enough but we are in an impossible situation in that we can't please everybody else where Paddy McNair scored twice as Northern Ireland secured a 32 win over the Czech Republic Peterborough last night also hosted international football it was the 1st time in 3 years it's happened under 20 side were beaten 3 nil by the Czech Republic at London Road more than 6000 people came to watch the game though all 3 of our local sides are in southern premier central action this evening. Having taken just a point from their past 3 games now Peterborough sports are facing and sometimes are at least I'm in rugby coach Richie Williams believes his Cambridge players will be reinvigorated following their 345 when it can to bray on Saturday just gone it's just their 2nd one of the new season though in National League One we don't want to be defined as a team that can have these one off performances and not be consistent with what we're doing so we're in a far better place and I think it's amazing what a performance like that can do just to reinvigorate people and we're looking forward to the proper week and a nice hockey Peter. Says his side must cherish their 1st 4 point weekend of the new season phantoms beat Sheffield and Milton Keynes to move up to 4th in the National Division table at the moment we just want to cherish what we've done this weekend and we've got 4 points on the way and it is good for confidence is good for morale of the team and and hopefully we can bring the same game next week and that's the latest Ball thank you producer and a coming up to 228. In weekday mornings from 6. Calves Lawrence Franks a show on b.b.c. Radio Cambridge. So it's crunch time in the breaks it talks in a matter of days will find out if the e.u. Accepts Boris Johnson's deal or if the prime minister is forced to ask for another extension and today we're looking at how it came which is preparing for breaks it are you ready farming is the county's biggest industry and our political reporter had also and has been looking at the issues facing our farmers up to 2 thirds of u.k. Food grain and drink exports each year are to e.u. Countries after breaks it farmers could have to pay tariff on kids exported to Europe for the 1st time this could be between 40 to 90 percent depending on the product the fear is that if you're paying companies suddenly have to start paying more they could switch supplies to other countries or farmers would have to slash their prices. And the same time tariffs on porches coming from outside the e.u. Could be cut substantially after a break that meaning British farmers could face competition from overseas produces some of which may have lower welfare and safety standards farmers will also have to consider the possible increasing costs of veterinary and customs checks at the border finally there's the question of subsidies currently British farmers receive a substantial amount of money as part of the Common Agricultural Policy the government has said it will all of these payments until 2020 but is unfasten t. About what will happen beyond that Robert North farms near Baton bone in South came ashore joins me now Robert good morning good morning what's your main concerns with the state that we're in at the minute Robert with just the problem that moment is the answer to absolutely everybody. All the entrances are taught to whatever people . Everything's a standstill by him and it is. Quite so we. Will and particularly for us farmers and in my case on a ship from a. South Korean mission North hearts because we export really 40 percent of the production to Europe it's a vital part of our market so we need a day or so I am still confident that the world really so as with all things in the happened so the absolute last minute last minute you walk gives you confidence rather. Called a no go it's not in anybody's interest so it's obviously not in our interests. And it's certainly not in anyone's interest in the a. I think everyone wants a deal and. You know we've seen just just this last few days more positive signs but it needs compromise and it needs negotiation as well I do not see the point of having a yes another extension because it would just lead to more uncertainty and running the clock down again to the last minute if there is no deal and we come out with no deal what would be the impact on you. It will be fairly devastating. Because it will impact a major on our prices we save and it will probably have 2000 further dramatic cost cutting for us. Which sets in terms of labor and what we purchase and. The consumer will suffer as well because there will be less home grown 1st class good quality produce available and because the government said they won't impose tariffs on imports there will be more importance well which is ridiculous because we are quite capable of supplying and growing a lot of these properties ourselves so when Boris Johnson says we are leaving on October the 31st with or without today will come what my that's that makes you nervous. Makes us all very nervous and it's just not just farmers because the knock on will go into all sorts of industries we just need some certainty now we need a deal. Good to talk to Robert thank you very much for your time. And we're going to him for more local businesses and workers throughout the show this morning and if you'd like to comment on anything that you hear feel free to text it triple free you message with the word cam c.m. Or you can always phone us 080859596. B.b.c. Radio Cambridge is. That this morning. Cambridge railway station is representing the. Stations didn't even realize there was. Radio Cambridge. Parliament has been formally reopened after yesterday's Queen's speech it's the 65th time the queen has carried out the task all the critics are questioning its value coming so soon before and expect a German election sitting on the phone in the House of Lords the Queen read out the government's list of proposed legislation it began with a declaration to get bricks it done my government's priority has always been to secure the United Kingdom's departure from the European Union on the 31st of October. My government intends to work towards a new partnership with the European Union based on free trade and friendly cooperation now there are also promises of legislation on immigration infrastructure and the health service including a new way of funding care for the elderly However Labor leader Jeremy Corbyn went on the attack dismissing the agenda as doing little to undo 10 years of Tory austerity it does nothing for people struggling to make ends meet does nothing to make our world a safer place or tackle the climate emergency the prime minister promised that this Queen's Speech does hold us on closer inspection Mr Speaker it is nothing more than a full set goals. But Johnson hit back arguing his plan shows what he wants to achieve to mess. Want. Governments exist to serve the British people and this green speech delivers all their priority and by strengthening L.H.'s with the biggest program of hospital building for a generation by putting 20000 more police on the streets looking at the potential of the whole country with new infrastructure a better education and high technology from gigabit broadband to a new national space strategy we aim to create a new age of opportunity for the whole country yet but scores of opposition politicians have been scathing arguing that with No but European Parliament and desperate for a general election Boris Johnson can't hope to deliver anything in the program read out by the queen amongst them the Lib Dem leader just once and we've got this out of the Queen's speech along with the promise that the Prime Minister can't possibly deliver because the path he is set to go down is one that will make so much poorer as a country and the different estimates right there suggest that what he's proposing could be as bad as the financial crash of 2008 now the Queen's Speech is the only regular time when the 3 parts which make up Parliament the sovereign House of Lords and House of Commons will come together and with rumors of a possible chairman election it could be happening very very soon indeed the time $5.00 to $8.00 have Lawrence Bragg 1st on b.b.c. Radio Cambridge year RB looking forward to the next conversation immediately let me say good morning to talk to Lucy the last Pella Good morning from Cambridge uni library it's 150 years since the 1st women were finally allowed to study at Cambridge uni this year now the university library is revealing their stories in an exhibition called The Rising Tide women in Cambridge That's right and you hear it open Yes they didn't yesterday we got the big party tonight was my. Vite I've seen it somewhere it's mostly women actually stand out they were like How did they yesterday a guy was fantastic we had hundreds actually in the exhibition. It's free to come in everyone's welcome we keep saying to people you don't have to be a member of the university and we're telling the stories not only of the women who were studying at the university working at the university but also the people who may be a less high profile people who are working in the colleges they're the gardeners the college staff the bed makers we've got a whole range of women featuring what some of the spy you were you were really proud of well one of the most exciting things is a gallon is a simple academic gown but it has crossed the Irish Sea a number of times and it kind of speaks for that story of the struggle of women so women got here in 1989 but they didn't get full degrees they got these kind of these wonderful d.i.y. Degrees actually we got one on display that the women's colleges were making because the university didn't give them the game the chance to sit exams but not a chance to get a degree so Dublin Trinity College Dublin said Well come here and we'll graduate you and hundreds of women went over and we got the gown that several of them wore as they went across the Irish Sea then got given back to new norm and then in 1968 when the 1st women were allowed to be fellows at Trinity one of the more that counted are well that's amazing Yes there were some peace how much was it a struggle for women to get recognition of their ability 150 years ago well it was there was massive opposition to them coming and you can see from the women's colleges they are tentative they're cautious but they've also got the ambition you know they are saying women can do what men can do and when women started coming 1st in their subjects in the late 19th century a lot of that opposition about their intellectual powers evaporated but the story we want to tell is that that wasn't the end of the story even in 1048 when they got their full degrees actually resources and the welcome they were given was not always very warm and the last drug all that we document in the exhibition is. Actually Ends in 2015 when the women's boat is finally given the chance to roll on the Thames. On the same course as the men's boat my mum made history and so I think I personally missed it for this next question my my my my history but back in her working life when she became the 1st ever female branch manager of what was then the left the building society and absolutely she kind of you know paved the way for women to get to the summer jobs she's paying a visit to came ashore and she simply must come to this exhibition she would love it I would wish it I want all the you know the mums with their daughters and their sons to come and bring them along and say well let me tell you a bit about my life and you know maybe your grandmother's life and your great grandmother's life and will think about you know that the changes that we've seen something of the striking me 150 years ago it's not actually that long ago is it I mean it's not like you understand you know going with this and that there's something striking me is just a little bit uncomfortable with that but then you temperate with it is so different now isn't it isn't it isn't I mean I have to say one of the stories of the exhibition is the activism carries on across this whole period and on today because if you look at pay pensions promotions we're still not there yet there's still a major gender pay gap and it's in the university as it is in many other workplaces less good than the expression can can reflect that I guess we're certainly trying to tell the story that you know is the rising tide the the tide is still coming up it still needs to come in a bit more Ok It sounds amazing and I'm going to get my mom along and what can come with her and I asked when is the exhibition running until it's till the end of March March 21st so you've got many months to come and have a look but we think it's you know it's going to be a massive chore so they do come along Ok the rising tide woman at Cambridge in the Uni university library Dr Lucy de Lapp Many thanks for coming in today thank you thank you across Cambridge. B.b.c. Radio Cambridge share. With the latest on the Travel his Jess and Laurie is breaking down on the mail road roundabouts in March which is still causing long he .
