Have you heard you just both cause. This is b.b.c. Radio 5 available on the b.b.c. Sounds. Like so zit expect from 30 on Twitter which gives you no idea what decade they're from which is similar once mine says you cover some interesting stuff on your show been some crazy places all of them Christmas tree decorating classes the one that's got me saying Hell yeah now come on who really wants to come to a Christmas tree is sick Christmas tree they design things purposely to hang easily from them I don't think I've ever seen anyone and you mess up a Christmas tree decoration feel free to send me some photos of my Twitter if you follow me on Twitter I'd be interested to know cause. Ok 6 minutes past 3 now I do admit that I was far too self-indulgent yesterday when I devoted a whole hour of the show to you know me taking it so easily that. Pacitti and I look having my own playlist. Ok I'm over it. I'm over it. Of wallowed in self-pity now for 24 hours there's a new head coach Tottenham His name is shows a marina and he's just finished speaking to assemble in broadcast media exposed training ground at his 1st game in charge today I have to be. On Saturday lunchtime half 12 kick off he spoke for over 45 minutes covered many areas including Spurs challenging for the title next season the future of. So I said that and produce a talk in my ear just wait no. He said I wanted your manager as you are what is the future Spurs out of contract players and his appreciation of the pitch on the beds at Spurs training ground let's hear a bit from him now talking about his predecessor Maurizio Taina and taking the job just to speak about Maurice for I just to pour into it and for the work. He did. I have to share with you this quote will be always is is home this training grounds will be always is training ground you can come when you want when you miss the players when you miss the people that you work with the door is always open for a. For him to morrow is another they will find happiness again you will find a great club again and you will have a great. And great future would be in more than these very bad news if this is the last time. He loses his job. Because. That's all life the point is we give everything every day like you did at the club . And to live obviously with with us that feeling but to live with with the feeling that you did the great works all. I would like just tool to to say that because it is what everybody at the club feels about it will be always welcomed this is my life and this is where I belong in this is. What really mean makes me happy so yes I'm not smiling as much today because. I have a gaming in 2 days and not the long time to work but deep inside I'm I'm really really happy and every minute I spend in the club I realize that my option was correct I am really enjoying a big football club with a big structure we a great organization where. I am really really more focused on on my job on my coaching on my players on my team and on not to it at all with everything that surrounds me I am more than happy to to to be here I mean I'm no linguistic expert or indeed an emotional psychologist but that's unsound my happiness is put out there. I know deep down inside as he said he must be happy because of course he's managing the mighty toss but I don't I'm sure it sounded like that when you have to tell someone that you're happy to incite different kind of things some. Ok we look forward to seeing how to do against West Ham and Steve Tilly thank you for listening and thank you for sending me a picture of you or your favorite manager in fact yes Mr New No himself. Yeah after Wolverhampton Wanderers beat Spurs 31 thank you Steve to lifting that Steve coming on Twitter. He Ok it's 10 past 3 we are going to be speaking to someone in a little wall who is an expert in Christmas tree decoration you may be really annoyed that we're having this conversation before December and think that we're being a bit previous But the reason being is this because Sarah Green from news of this parish she went to a class a Christmas tree decorating class I want to find out more about this because I just can't believe that this is the thing that it is but before that we're going to have amazing live music interview with Jade bird go and check out her music right now in preparation for that if you haven't heard of jade before before that it is our documentary of the week which today is the baby has landed on b.b.c. To his the trailer. Debacle down the pearls here. That kind of changes and. The baby has landed on b.b.c. 21 b.b.c. I Player. This documentary is going to capture every moment in the weeks immediately following birth do you remember how intense they were how extraordinary those times were especially after you had your 1st chart and you know your friends have come over and congratulations at the pictures taken and they leave and then you're suddenly there the 2 of you with this baby with this mini human being and you're looking down to it thinking and this is purely from personal memories what have we done what we can't. Well it starts with b.b.c. 2 the baby has landed next Wednesday 27th of November at 9 pm The include family a mission and ship with us and one half of the Nicholson bomi family Sila also. And saw a Good afternoon welcome to the show get out a Often you know you good good thank you for coming on Silas I could start with you how did you become involved in this documentary Well I was just looking through online all the different like little competition think the can do to win like 3 things for your baby I think we've already had came across on one of those so I just go to think of it and submitted it and then here we are. It's a stressful thing starting a family home a shared. Without having cameras around it yeah it's very very stressful for the document she was covering the path of us that child and even that is that time around still very stressful quite intent of comes next and if you know maybe it. Because we stopped to. I don't if you plan to stay so that's a different conversation for another day but we stopped and we we felt that the 2nd child wasn't double it felt like 10 times the work when the 3rd one comes along what does that feel like in terms of workload bass you know if he was lucky this trip or types that because it's a case that after keep. Up with the short term the boys have to keep happy I do not quote this new baby have to keep happy and I'll keep my wife happy as well. It's like when I retire I'm gone the whole day will just have this basically these are very different so it wasn't easy at all which all for it would have been but it wasn't easy at all but of course some issue is your number one priority issue but. I'm just trying to help you as well from just from now if you have. This is the opera that no one's happy. And all of how did you to become involved in this documentary mission Chavez. And I again watch that site actually was just making free stuff online and still be well so then you can factor applied not telling us really because. Then i mean yeah we're here now so yeah it came to fruition when I didn't really think it it would just route of trace and it was a case star just for users fun or cheap discordant Walkmans just told me to bitch about application and I was a bit hesitant up so that we want to do it and she was just kind of going on comin to be really good software you know there's no way we're going to get this. Rick's minute read to her but to me only tell you exactly the same thing right Ok everyone thought this is never going to happen but I will give a guy something I saw to do you then surely forget the the cameras them yeah 100 percent and I think you'll see probably in the open in like 10 minutes if the fish stocks went to the 1st episode we just like having a massive all commit these things happen that never even thought was going to happen and then we just totally forgot the compass is there and that law if an hour later we realize you remember it was no no plays just realizing that things happen in the in the heat of the moment and it's a tense time and I think it just makes it more real but you do forget that they say you are just you so well you have to be so yeah sure. Yeah it's just one of those things that especially when you are tired that is when you really gained I would say like kind of his slide laid back and you just kind of like want to go with it kind of up for us truthfully you do kind of know it's them but then also make sure that they owe to you just forget that that day I mean it is just a case of that you just know me and even like our children they just kind of forgot that they would I could always see being children they kind of know some of us and off the wild they didn't mention them they didn't really act whatsoever so it was just like being arm as it usually is. Or. So no I was going to also I do a question about because you met your other half mote in Egypt didn't you while you were in Holland but you're family had to persuade him to move here he wanted you yeah there really want to come yeah he wanted me to get to Egypt and I was because obviously our family is really close my God that he's got about you and he lives with those and I just couldn't leave him I couldn't leave my family really if he was to say save them to come here and I'm so glad we did because I was pregnant he was expected and couldn't have done it without the support of my family and they've definitely support those emotionally and obviously like all the other families it's really tired and holiday whether it's your fish or if it went on if it was. But I do think you do need the support of people around you so I'm so glad that we did decide to come here I think is a very stressful thing and I'm planning for a family and then starting a family when it's unexpected what extra pressure do you think that puts on. Your relationship. I think at the actual time I just think we didn't really think about it when I was pregnant and it was kind of like you know when I read this is kind of was meant to happen anyway just go along with it and I think I got the biggest shock of my life when he was blown because I was so like oh it's fine we'll just do this we'll just do that and then he's a scream and I'm thinking oh my god like oh well today. Yeah because alternately as I said before lots of people even if you're living in a house or multiple generations and it ultimately is you and hopefully your partner and your child and that's it right yeah yeah well yeah and that's that's terrifying I'm not even trying to think about the 1st one I think a great. This was really out there but do you do you remember what the feelings were like when your 1st one came and I'm not sure. Yeah I definitely think it worth it to know about the big gaps and so I was 15 ish best of 16 last so yes I from school high school high school sweethearts have a say when when we find that found out we expect in the light and we just start well I just finished uni and she passes just due to graduate leaving behind I said to London. And then we kind of like yeah but our freedom was I say Are we back to my parents again we have that support network and possible 1st child and when Joel it's 6 weeks old me into our 1st house together and it's just all systems go next you know we plan didn't dream doff in our relationship right through like a common you know a painter action which is very nice however Yeah it was a bit of a shock but that being said that time around the school stuff that we learned in and experience and now they're having to juggle 3 children all together but it's an amazing experience that they've been sort of. Why do you think people will love this documentary that you and your family apart of. I just think because it shows you no matter how you Pavan everyone parents differently and it's not wrong so you might question what you're doing with your child and think Kid Oh well they don't get it they didn't do that well then tell me this but you know you're a child and everyone's going to tell you something completely different but it's your child and am I What you not parent in wrong and I think this document you just shows that with all the ceo's out in our sit and then you've got all the say about having this. And then you've got the 5th one and then you've got loads of different families and we're all just showing it that no matter how you parent it's not wrong we just all get very differently but it makes it Ok. Yeah yeah that that's a big thing is always questioning whether you're doing it right we're not sure but as yet I said this for me and it's one of those things that you just about your To Do you know you have to should. Do it for the 3rd time you definitely have to have to adapt the car you have to everything pretty much. About. Like nice car 6. How does that how does the one now youngest why those. So she's trying to get a pro. I think. That's absolutely fine this is we can see this is when she when she grows up you can say she auditioned at the age of 5 months to be on the b.b.c. And that's not a bad thing it look at hasn't gone out yet how many of your friends saw a lot have you told I mean they must have been known because the filming but there's one thing filming but then seeing it it's kind of hard because obviously I would come up with a local hit just gentlemen's the local hit your set so the camera is in it with those as well so everyone kind of knew from. Beginning that was filming for it but I didn't actually. See that the trailer myself assist my friend actually sent it to me and I think to just see him that was like realisation that it's kicking in and I think that I like everyone knows. Yeah yeah I know now that you've seen are you happy with how you come across a style with you son. And how you come across Yeah I think the biggest thing for me is that people don't just assume that because we live without parents we've got it easy and I think probably like anyone any young found them living with their parents it's really nice to have that support network but you want reliant upon them because it is ultimately still you your partner when you baby And I think the biggest thing for me is just said that they don't assume that we just get it handed to us on a plate you know I mean we are still very quite independent and we do things for ourself but it's just look at a fair a still have that family background unit where we're all together and it's really nice and yeah I think that's the biggest thing really missions for both. Yet I think that yet looking at the trainer and what we saw say for does show us as a family I think. This should present except that it really showed a lot about his emotional side of this unless people who are private and wise course. Oh he was never going to cry or he never cries when he's happy to say that was something that was so out in the trade that we were really really happy that some everyone's going to see initially and alongside the fact that yeah just show us off screen real chase me you know looking at it is exhausting it's from I was 12 days a.j. I was out really really by that point. And then also a little boys and their hopes to be on life a little side my ass say it was good to see them captured to know that this is something that will be a memory for them to be able to look back on yes to come here and there for kind of seem so from self which we didn't really notice that it was fingers that read that we had done then we fold in a 2nd well I did that and to actually look better food for your article so there was for joy so I just to be clear on who did the. Just to be clear I don't tell me to write New York per each of us but we. Wouldn't want to take a lot of credit for the whole getting back to. Life. Entirely over time a shift. Because we had the upper to yeah I felt I had to kind of split myself for information on the children I don't see or so that's what made us think a lot of us well think that I'm a church and it was like shocks me just how delightful and it was a lot simpler and I was able to get as much support watching the baby because I talked to look after the other to see if you could turn your back to being a sleep in the trailer. Especially may they get to have to watch the program say oh this falls from a show and as and crew methink you very much for coming on it's good to speak to you in silence thank you for the Nicholson by me family thanking me as well the documentary our documentary the week which we strongly recommend you go and watch it's called the baby has landed it's on b.b.c. 2 next Wednesday the 27th of November at 9 pm right favorite times I get to speak to taste and more importantly you get to hear their amazing music Jade is about to perform for you live she was shortlisted for the b.b.c. From as they do a lot of the Ryan wall the raw and honest. The tennis about the risk of sounding like your therapist tell us about your childhood. Interesting kind of moving around a lot as a kid initially because you your father your mother in the forces right yeah they met in the forces and then my mom got pregnant with me. Early on I mean 20 and and I was I mode isn't that you know I mean I so that was that was a bit of a 10 a point do you think do you think a lot about that actually that you know your age now you would be a mother now and oh yeah and think about how you would have coped with that yeah I see this really strange probably like I don't have his tension from Asian but like I did feel kind of almost spiritually. This just strange sort of maternal shift when I hit my mom's age when she had me it was really unusual yeah yeah I don't know I don't know what it was but I was just something that I could almost feel the possibility of that kind of a rising whereas I imagine if you're a normal 20 year old that you know sometimes it's a bit on the horizon specially doing a job like mine but yeah I just had this kind of strange connection in my brain so because she's not that much older than you then what's the kind of relationship like I mean is it is the oldest sister is it friend or is there very much the kind of mother daughter it's like oh this is oldest sister with like almost discipline kind of you know what I'm saying yeah but she always was very I think the main thing I've got from my mom is she always worked very very very hard because I was had my parents but when you were there when I was young in 7 yeah yeah yeah and then she kind of worked solidly being a single mom and I think just watching her do that is definitely trickled into my ethic you know I really don't have any excuses if things go don't go well and I have a want for it you know I mean that's definitely the attitude I've got from and you've been very open talking about what you saw growing up with your mom and relationships that she had and how that wasn't particularly great and also how your grandmother and grandfather split up which is quite unusual for that generation Yeah both my grandparents have Yeah I've could have pretty unlucky family when it comes to marriage is but you know it's just an example of being like a modern kid in a way I think you know that the stats for divorce now crazy and you're actually going down really yeah I believe. Yeah I mean they're still pretty high yeah they are I mean it is apparent it's going in different direction than it was for many years that's interesting I mean welcome as I was coming down there I my opinions on marriage certainly I still value it quite clearly I don't have quite highly I guess I'm a traditionalist much Ok what where does that come from then because quite often you can be conditioned into what you see around you and like I said you've been quite. Honest about what you saw your mom go through in the arms of relationships Yeah that's not going to help you paint an incredibly great picture of men Yeah but let's be real Yeah I mean my songs definitely focus more on strengthening you know young women's attitude and fight you know if they feel intimidated that's something I definitely focus on in my songs I think you know my opinion of men who defends its run it's all good oh yes absolutely yeah they said she had an generalise about men in the same way and that in general is about when it's so true by they definitely I mean that that has definitely not been a present energy in my life and to be honest therefore making me a stronger woman in a way I think sometimes we have retreated on the show earlier on and I asked him because he had a dad who was distant around and I asked him you know who taught you how to be a man and he said his mom did you know she had to do both of these you know his jobs and did you feel that as well that your mom had to do both jobs so yeah but I don't know what is what did that involve in terms of the role perhaps a gender role that a father would have to bring in to really how to say I'd say was probably good about you know having a mother figure as you do you get emotional support whereas you know due to this whole you know male not being able to talk about their feelings you know that my child it's really hard to say if your child when with one parent that's not specifically present what you would have missed because you don't you know you know I'm sure maybe my child would be more discipline lead in Iowa. My dad's not harsh in that way. But yeah he can tell you because I grew up with my mom and my grandma Yeah in Bridgend Yeah Yeah Yeahs South Wales How old were you when you moved there probably 7 it was straight after the after the divorce and then for about 8 years it was the longest place that longest I've ever been in a place saying. Oh you know my dick by nature yeah you can find it easy to kind of you plot some place and then suddenly that's your home oh no I'm the opposite I mean I I never really feel like home is where House is or a bedroom or you know like anything like that you 2 have moved locations so many times I really think it's the people around you not sound too cliche Yeah but honestly it's wherever my my family is or my partner is you know that to me feels like a settling Well yeah it's in need your partner to be in a band with you the need. To make yourself and so very true but family was that's difficult because. The more you want. The more time you spend away from home this is not a job where you go home at 5 pm If you definitely know I think it's the reality check you know there's something about the kind of British condition I think we're very grounded as a community and I think sometimes when you go in this in this kind of wild or around America a lot sometimes you can lose reality a little bit which is good for ambition cause you feel like the sky's the limit but sometimes in terms of my humor and who I am as a person because I'm doing that on stage I'm trying to give my who I really am and if I feel that changing or and sinking I can feel a little bit lost Was there ever a sense the sadness and. I don't know conflict perhaps was the best fuel for songwriting definitely yeah when I was very young I mean I used to do the pubs and clubs and competitions because I couldn't play anywhere else. And they always used to tell me I was you know what I was was when I was a superset you know as we were in the Such sad songs I was a bit like ah you know I mean they're just they're just my songs I was writing at the time and then suddenly I feel like I've kind of defeated the myth that you have to be sad and you have to be down to be able to write good material you know one half of this album in a quite happy place and for me that was a huge thing because we really do almost like fetishist sadness in creative industries so yeah it's quite strange yeah but was it useful. Or was it something you felt that you had to do because you felt that's how you create emotional music or was it actually you had to quit music or that because you had so much dark in motion that you had to go Yeah yeah I was is a very lotta is very honest beginnings you know you don't feel very good night I played piano before the guitar but for some reason the guitar kind of felt like I was you know speaking my own truths and I used to have my notebook. In fill out for no other real reason than to just you know get some stuff down and then to see what that's like on paper you know if you don't keep a diary I guess it's a similar sort of thing but it's been an incredibly cathartic thing for me to have in my life you know a mouthpiece almost And the fact you get to share that with people is quite special I think because again retreats you said his microphone is there a piece you have had here because you were a stuff that you don't even know that you processing so I wrote this song called I get no joy after a year like this year just been so intense and I've been getting this feeling of like numbness on stage couldn't physically feel anymore and so I get no joy is this quite visceral song about you know I get no joy with the words my mother said rushing around in my head is I call these lyrics kind of saying that but I was feeling good when I wrote it the subconscious talking it's very old you know being in a single parent environment and choosing such an insecure profession. Were you always supported in you when your choices that you made or was it case of look you know have a backup plan yourself and off to be honest I think you know my mom's always just been like well you work at it and I'll and I'll drive you up and down the country to make sure there is you know that it happens and the you you get people in your life be in your school being your family being like you know school you know there's a lot of people trying to do that you know I mean any a light well maybe I'll be special I mean. But yeah I think I think having one parent and my grandma as well who were like you know you can you can you can do this if you work hard enough but it was certainly a privilege What music did you grow up listening to because you know you you've made waves in America and there are people who really really really identify with your sound in America so was that the kind of music you grew up listening to I think I think of America tends to identify. I was with people who don't necessarily fit in any way and I think it's been quite frustrating for me so when they were on the south you know people immediately want to pigeonhole you immediately want to be like you know the country go you the blues girl and it's and I think for me I grew up listening to so much music like from my parents would you know ninety's rave and you know they liked all the Prodigy and Happy Mondays and stuff like that and then I hear in a lot of influence of the prodigy I have to say you know man your kids to cover for a starter for the next I mean maybe so but yeah no I mean then I go into Americana music as it's now known like new young Bob Dylan promote cycle club just this kind of yeah but you know what I mean and I and it kind of set my world on a light really and then volved my creative process what is it about. That music is what I think about artists like that I think about her rise that's much further away yeah than music perhaps you'd listen to that might be very British There's something about there's a vast expanse of emotion contained within those songs yeah I think is honesty perhaps I mean everyone's honest in their own way I just always felt like my reality wasn't necessarily didn't have to be regional doesn't make sense I don't need someone to say a sentence that is directly related to me to do is what I do every day I would someone to hit me like that emotionally and I think there are some talking about they have very broad emotional appeal you know what I mean they've gone through a lot in their lives and so I think that to me is probably why you know he's still hit me as opposed to I don't know maybe the Arctic Monkeys at the time says just this everyone's very different. How do you get to have the experiences of life that feel the songwriting if all you're doing is being the songwriter Yeah I think you have to learn to be incredibly empathetic to ever have a chance of being like the greats I think what they did was you know you think about Lennon Cohen already is a great post Patti Smith the the snapshot someone they see an account for create this world around them that's what all the great writers do and the hard thing with me right now I guess the 2nd album troubles but I think your 1st album is almost like your therapy or you're picking apart your life and the characters in your life and putting out there whereas you know to be great you have to look at other people's and be able to do authentically you know and reach out to them in a more authentic way than just like you know I mean storyteller and I think that's my theory which I'm trying to get better as a songwriter so nice about developing characters that are not you I think I think that's where my growth will come you know you can I we live in quite rational. But I think we live. Oh well where everyone's a individual a stake but also the so much going on from the community aspect and so I think you have to find a middle ground and some way whatever that means you can do a 2nd song for us now yeah you're going to play that for us I said really Jade if you are to make your way fantastic why it's all. That is a very impressive could talk about it because tickets all super brought Jay but he's going to perform a 2nd truck for us here on b.b.c. A tree a plastic sheet it stays in the loft or wherever and come in the carriage and comes out for a nice not a new like. Everywhere if you need a big house for that Ok big whole way there's all that isn't there but you yourself if you're not touring somewhere on Christmas why would you put in a gig on Christmas Day I'll ask myself oh yeah you know now is that and so would you be involved in that So yeah I put the fairy on the top so it was always tradition in my house for someone to lift you up and then you put the fare on the top is the only child quite. Beautiful like a Christmas card. Do you feel that there is an art to doing this you know what this is just a rethink Oh my mom likes to make homemade presents and stuff you know 11 time she got these table mats I was only about 6 and she got these table maps for the family with my face on the. Badges just like oh my God Like you say put in his teeth and go oh yeah that's what it was based. Solely on me they miss you oh my issue is so extreme what moms do they like yeah. You'll Ever Need to tell me they still exist I think he's doing you know how I mean it Christmas present is well I've liked your I'm dressed up in this like little snapshot picture why is this not going to be on your much table interests in my interest is the question certainly your management everyone's thinking why did we not know about this this is a perfect Christmas market. Helen Webb is with us from Cardinal Christmas decorating Hello Helen and I've been asking you now I'm probably asking the wrong person Helen do you think it's ridiculous that people go to Christmas Tree to pray in class is considered. A senseless thing in the well just ask that Ok maybe it's nothing why is it sensible to have to go to a class to learn how to hang things on a tree things that are designed to be hung on a tree. Well I mean you know we're all a little bit more design conscious they say people want their Christmas changed Christmas tree not is a boat. Nothing wrong with making it all matchy matchy with your household decor is but surely wanted to look gorgeous Shouldn't it just look I ought to take Should we have. One all full bore here and another one there and should it just be kind of a riot of color and. They said in your case. The family you know I know your face has come to come to your house you know my mansion as you called it sometimes people want of courtship Christmas tree to test the key decorating a cordon a pig and so on and I might have to think each year I want to different things so that's why there's a whole industry around this kind of thing simply want it we're not going to mention any names but you there are some quite famous people who you go into their Christmas tree for them is that right yeah yeah yeah people are busy people have you know. Really want to spend time with their family or you know. And we go in and we too you know which is Christmas trees for them. And they are beautiful I had a look it was so lovely I think you know the website is quite low key because so many of our clients. Agreement do you consult with them is there a design meeting where you talk through the kind of things that you're going to do . Whatever it costs just go and so much for me please look even the person with you know I think a budget still wants to have.
