Labour's plans for its 1st $100.00 days in power are ambitious John McDonnell will set out the party's 3 priorities including a budget designed to end austerity the launch of the so-called national transform ation unit to improve infrastructure and investment outside of London and the 1st steps to bringing water and energy industries into public ownership Boris Johnson will take his fight firmly on to Labor territory visiting Sunderland and other leave voting constituencies long represented by Labor M.P.'s which the Tories hope to win his message that there are just 3 days to break the deadlock of a hung parliament and deliver bricks it's an investment in public services the Liberal Democrats say they have legislation ready to go which could be put before parliament as soon as it returned after the election to prepare for holding another referendum on e.u. Membership the political parties have been accused of failing to offer credible answers to most of the big challenges facing the n.h.s. The organization which represents trusts in England n.h.s. Providers says politicians have not been straight with voters about how far the extra money they have promised will go the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges complains that there's been precious little debate about the future of social care . At least one person has been killed and others are unaccounted for after a volcano erupted suddenly off the north coast of New Zealand up to 50 tourists were visiting the volcano on White Island when it started spewing ash into the air a live camera feed showed several tourists inside the crater just before the images went blank about 20 people have been injured at least one critically New Zealand's prime minister durned told reporters that a rescue operation was underway we know already that there were a number of tourists on or around the island at the time both New Zealanders and visit is from the Ses I know there will be a huge amount of consume and anxiety for those who have loved ones on or around the island at the time and I can assure them police are doing it every thing they can the 1st highlevel talks in more than 3 years aimed at ending the conflict in eastern Ukraine are taking place today Ukraine's president Volodymyr Zelinsky will meet for the mere Putin for the 1st time in France more than 13000 people have been killed since 2014 in fighting between Russian backed separatists and Ukrainian forces join official reports from Paris where the meeting is being held after more than 3 years of stalemate both on the ground and in negotiations these talks represent a rare glimmer of hope there happening because Ukraine has a new president the former comedian of law to mean Selenski elected earlier this year on a promise to prioritize peace president Selenski has shown flexibility and a willingness to make concessions he may be about to find out whether Russia's president Vladimir Putin is really interested in a deal for the last 5 and a half years Moscow has been arming funding and many would say directly controlling fighters into rebel held parts of eastern Ukraine. The World Anti-Doping Agency will decide whether Russia should be banned from all major international sporting events for 4 years an investigation found that the Russian authorities had tampered with computer data showing athletes had cheated the meeting will take place in Lowe's and in Switzerland from where our sports correspondent Alex Capstick reports once again Russia stands accused of covering up positive drug tests that was the conclusion by experts who examined a computer data released from a Moscow laboratory last January they claim the information was manipulated and fake evidence of being planted in a bid to shift the blame elsewhere the International Olympic Committee described the case as an insult to the sporting movement and so water has been asked to reinstate a suspension that was controversially lifted in September 28th seen following a previous doping conspiracy the sanctions recommended include the removal of Russia's flag from big global events such as next year's Tokyo Olympics and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar although athletes who can show their clean will still be allowed to compete but under a neutral banner leading Russian officials have denied the allegations although the head of their anti doping program said the punishment if approved was justified what's been described as a perfect collection of whiskey has to be sold at auction next year it contains nearly $4000.00 bottles of single malt scotch bourbon and Japanese whiskey and was built up by an American businessman Richard gooding the online sale is expected to raise up to 8000000 pounds take to melt thank you for that mail it's 6 minutes past 6 let's go over to The View where the center where Stanton as is waiting for his morning staff Good morning Nic thank you very much well this new week is shaping up to be somewhat of a roller coaster ride with one day wet mild and windy followed by a dry cooler and a brighter day and this is because we will have a fairly active jet stream that will be streaming across the Atlantic bringing these low pressure systems across the British Isles and these will be followed by brief ridges of high pressure which is why I will see these shortly brighter but chilly has settled spells. So temperatures will be fluctuating from one day to the next generally mild then a little bit cooler but generally temperatures around the seasonal average Today though we're starting the day off on a very windy notes we've got the remnants of storm that's here which is day by met Erin yesterday which would be sweeping out into the North Sea taking it strong winds with it so the winds will be easing down through the day as that ridge of high pressure moves in and we should start see plenty of sunshine around but it will be quite windy this morning across the North Sea coast with scattered showers in the be plenty of Scotch showers across northern Scotland as well these wintry over the high ground but seeing improvements as we had on the afternoon not to mention with more sunshine around the winds easing down tube is going to be actually a day today than it was yesterday with a high of around 9 or 10 in the south $5.00 to $90.00 degrees for the North tonight's cloud will increase again after midnight across western areas is the next area of low pressure moves in bringing wet and windy weather men tomorrow when the weather will sweep to all areas some of the rain will be heavy and persistence in the north from the west and right b.c. Gales and even severe gales in the northwest of the country but tomorrow will be a milder day temps of 10 to 13 degrees thank you very much that it is 7 minutes past 6 Let us have our 1st look at the newspapers and as you would expect in the last week of campaigning with last few days of campaigning the Monday of the last week the papers are in relatively hysterical form the Daily Mail says pm blasts Labor bricks of betrayal attacks sneering Corbin The Telegraph called it will betray bricks it says Johnson in the Express Boris the last chance to save Bracks and Britain they put in for good measure the sun waking up to Corbin as pm on Friday the 13th would be just the start of a nightmare those papers that are more gently disposed towards labor concentrating as you might expect on the n.h.s. The ises n.h.s. Waiting times ordeal for patients is covered up the Guardian says Colgan in his last dart ditch drive to focus on voters' finances and the mirror. Goes all out for labor and with the awful picture of a boy a boy of 4 being treated they say on the floor of a hospital because there are no beds available the picture they say that shames the Tories they have t. Has an important story leaked document motivational sensitive coming from within government which the paper says puts doubts all coal stand out I'm sorry on Boris Johnson's promise to deliver by the end of 2020 This comes from within the bricks at the bottom and Dexie you and warns that implementing Mr Johnson's bricks deal represents courage a major challenge the documents as delivery of the required infrastructure associated system systems install thing to implement the deal represents quote a major strategic political and operational challenge and just a word about a front page story in the front of the times it used to be a selection of toiletries and the occasional bathrobe that hotel guests would pay for now the Times says they're stealing the very mattresses they sleep on a survey of ateliers is found that removal of luxury mattresses is a growing problem particularly in 5 star hotels and I know what you're thinking how do you get past reception but I see it they go apparently from hotels where there is a lift the directly serve the underground car park and the great detail of this story is the moment uses a burning container technology to help keep temperatures out about what you've been you have got what tracking devices it is there were 10 past 6 a volcano has erupted in New Zealand there are fears that people have been hurt Chamakh an a.o. Is the b.b.c. Sydney correspondent is on the way to the volcano the island where the volcano is what do we know sham about what's actually happened. Well we know that up to 50 people were on the island of the time of the eruption and footage from around the volcano tourists were seen walking inside the rim of the crater just moments before the eruption happened and then it went. Up to 20 people have been injured we also know that police have said that they've taken people into safety into shore but those people that have been taken into shore seen covered in ash as you can imagine is critically injured this of course has been happening because is one of the country's. Most active but it's also very popular with tourists and that's really the concern the tourists that were on the island at the time and their whereabouts those who are unaccounted for would be missing in very treacherous conditions really heavy heavy smoke and really. It is it is active However we don't know if we're expecting it to be as active as the initial eruption we know that it's subsided a little bit giving the emergency emergency rescue operations rescue and search operations a chance to hover around the area that helicopters are also present in the area at the moment we also heard from one of the visitors who was on the island just 30 minutes before the eruption he said that he was on a boat going away from the island and so and so little happening just sold. We also know that there were warnings on the 3rd was entering a period where have your option was likely to happen then this is what happened a few hours ago. Thank you very much. Senior Chinese official has claimed that all of the people sent a massive rear. Asian Games in western China have now been released on sort worth is our China correspondent so extraordinary claim isn't it John given the extraordinary footage take mother b.b.c. Of these mass what looked like prisons for people of the week population why is he saying it now. Well it's it is interesting we heard already back in July the claim met with much skepticism it has to be said then that many of the people in these camps have been released today in this press conference sure as a care that the chairman of the regional government said that all have now left although in keeping with China's long insistence that these things a school he used the term graduated rather than released is impossible to verify of course you know that the control of independent access independent access to that region makes a very difficult very hard to speak to people without putting them in danger but as you say it is a significant claim and whatever the reality it may be a sign of just how much pressure China is now feeling over the issue feeling pressure because the American Congress passed a motion which calls on the president to implement sanctions. Absolutely so you know we've seen over over recent months this sort of mounting international concern you know the u.s. Legislative process is now gearing up they are beginning to look at these new laws that would penalize the officials involved in running the system what ever the reality is in this sort of reeducation system there are other elements to the system of control in a huge uptick in the number of formal sort of penal institutions massive increase in the number of formal arrests made which is tiny population compared to China as a whole used to account for something like 2 percent of the total number of arrests in China in 2017 it is it accounted for 20 percent of all Chinese arrests so you know there are other layers of the system and I think whatever the truth whatever this latest claim means about the shifting focus and priority of the system we can say with absolute certainty that the targeting of people there based on on ethnicity and faith has not been disbanded John sort of a Thank You The Times quarter past 6 has the election done much to make business people more upbeat about the future Well it's a shocker isn't it but it hasn't Dominick's here with the latest snapshot of mood among business people Hannity the rest of the business yes thank you just the gloomy mood is revealed in the latest survey from the British Chambers of Commerce forecasts that the u.k. Will grow by only one percent next year 2020 that would be the slowest rate since 2009 well that must be said that's a small improvement on the previous forecast of just not point 8 percent from the British Chambers later on in the program we'll be looking at the latest crisis in fund management problem problems at property investment funds and talking about Tesco plans to sell its operations in Thailand and Malaysia but 1st of all the chambers of commerce forecast at a mass or is the director general of the British Chambers of Commerce and he and he joins us here in the studio and good morning just. Let me through the numbers what are you forecasting for growth this year we're going on from what about this year and then next year we're forecasting that growth will come in about 1.3 percent this year and next year and 2021 percent and that's going to cap off what is the 2nd lowest decade of growth that we've got on record in the u.k. . Forecasts of economic growth after the BRICs referendum have been wrong and that the u.k. Economy has actually do quite well what do you think you might be being overly pessimistic look I don't think that's the case I think we see a lot of businesses and consumers who are holding back right now we see trade around the world as pretty any American and to be honest the figures are flattered a little bit by expected increases in government spending which of course provides a bit of a sugar hit for the economy but it's not the sort of protein boost that we need for the longer term because if you use sugar provided by government spending also we've been talking to business people around the ground the country last week will be doing regional broadcasts and they were talking about that they they thought the might be quite a boost to investment if you get a decisive outcome from the election and a clear path on breaks it one way or the other then actually things will improve markedly Well I think there will be some improvement if we do see a messy and disorderly Breck's it avoided and a clear path ahead but in business details matter and what no one has from any of the parties that might be victors in this election yet is real detail on some of the economic policies what they'll mean for individual businesses so a lot of companies that I'm talking to will say we're going to hang back until we understand exactly what this means for us so there may be a bounce but it won't be as fast as some of our politicians expect at least talk about the conservatives immigration policy a point space system is being torn talked about what will businesses think of that will they be happy to embrace the this sort of a 3 tier system with points accord Well I think the 1st thing to say is that it's inexcusable that businesses don't know. Who they can hire this time next year people will be thinking about their long term plans and I've got companies from Sussex farms leaving fruit in the fields through to Highland tourism companies in Scotland who can't fill a staff roster at a moment right now they're finding it hard to find staff even though it's hard and of course the last what I see why is that why the funny when there's huge numbers of vacancies and even when businesses are training locally a lot of our labor markets are effectively at full employment around the way so companies do have to turn to immigration and when they don't know what the system is going to be in future they find that a lot of people aren't too sure about uprooting their lives and coming here to the u.k. Evan companies they hadn't had the had their cake and eat it too because they've been they've been able to rely on cheap labor coming in from the European Union and not really done much about retention and recruitment because of it very very easily able to pick up workers as I'm in the need of them and certainly not been the case in many of the companies I work with who have set records in terms of the amount of training spend that they've put in recent years but we really do need to see is an immigration system that offers businesses clarity and simplicity for the future again those details matter simply saying you're going to have an Australian style points based system without giving businesses a route map for what that means for them is not good enough frankly thank you Raj and a Marshall from the British Chambers of Commerce it's been a chastening year for people who manage our money 1st one industry start Mame Neil Woodford came a cropper and now a popular property investment fund has had to stop people taking money out because of address that fall in the valley the properties that owns it can't really sell them fast enough to meet the demands for withdrawals Jonathan Miller is the head of u.k. Manager research at the financial research firm Morningstar Good morning Mr Millet just talk us through the basics of this the fund we're talking about here is an m. And g. Property fund what is it and what's happened to it. Going on like that that's correct should be and to property fund is a fund that invests in bricks and mortar so the buildings commercial properties and it has what's called a daily deeding So for an investor you can buy into it and said every day normally but we've always felt that the liquidity of property you can swiftly buy it within a few hours and set it in line with 80 dealing is a mismatch so now we got to the stage where there's been a lot of money coming out not enough cash levels in the funds to meet that they've decided to freeze on the feeling of deja vu all over again with this because didn't something similar happen to property funds just a few years ago and in fact this company funded particular yet so around what we could give us 2008 even on this when we had you know high stress in the markets and property funds suspended in the u.k. In a similar fashion we've had it again around the BRICs a. Bit of panic around property is a u.k. Real estate sector u.k. Is a hold that sore with them shins and the sort of structures find it hard to take the money out quickly enough to meet time when investors want their money back so it's within their parameters that they can do this it's still a bit of a liquid nature isn't appropriate in our view for investors what's in their money back you should I say said he you think the problem is not so much that these funds wind holding enough cash reserves it's more it's just a complete mismatch from what's being sold and what's able to be delivered yes and all the it works both ways so you can have an investment trust in the u.k. These are closed end funds so notes are not daily dealing exactly with that. Manages don't have to worry about day to day flus So a very normal ring fenced can be more long term with your views but the same time cash is used in the daily dating funs as a bit of a buffer so. Across the sector there's only about 15 or so from as with this daily dealing trim property but cash can range from 56 percent all the way through to $0.30 there's a bit of self policing that goes on here really which is how can we try and manage this liquidity mismatch and use cash as a buffer in this instance energy had around the 1000000000 of outflows in the last 12 months and it's come to the head just last week satisfied investors trust say the money out and what about the other big story in the minutes from this year which has been the demise of the Neil Woodford funds what about other funds so much of hand Neil Woodford funds inside their portfolios say funds are held other funds might be a liquidity crisis on the back of that because if they can't sell the new Woodford funds to meet redemptions What do they sell. So these loans are sometimes called Thunder fans support for different fund managers how it within that there would foods from the would have been some of those that's currently pretty much on one thing at the moment and a couple of other peers hands that when they took it out of his hands so they're really kind of hope there's enough diversification it's a proper It's not diversification in they support the market had 4 or 5 percent in their Woodford and been diversified across and many other areas here in the property funds in their own rights you know you're fully invested apart from the cash amount and the property sector and it current can be hard to go to the doors when one of us is taking their money out swiftly thank you very much Jonathan Miller from Morningstar Mark excuses morning is Laura Lambie He's a senior investment drink to head investing wealth and investment allure a bit of a chasing time for your trade fund management but these are problems that have been known about foreseen for quite a while and yet as your previous guest said 2009 was the last and timely Detroit party funds. Then there's a wee bit of a difference between the property situation and the Woodford funds property is illiquid we all know that but there's nothing new not yes there could be an argument for monthly dealing rather than daily dealing or for buying an investment trust which is closed ended but of course the problem with Woodford was that everyone else assumed that a u.k. Kriti fund was liquid and it wasn't so I think we have 2 slightly different scenarios here exactly Mrs talk about the news from Tesco confirmed that they're going to sell their Asian operations away said look for a bar they haven't absolutely decided this is quite some time isn't it because of we have a new chief executive Kim Murthy coming in at Tesco mc some of it's quite unusual for a company to make such a big move in advance of the chief executive arriving sciences if they've been approached by as they see an unnamed buyer for the Thailand operations and it's Milly's in ones Thailand is is fairly significant it's accounts for about 5000000000 of of revenue and it's significantly profitable margins in that on that side of the world are 6 percent compared to 3 percent margins in the u.k. So it's a very profitable site of the business so I suspect we're looking at fairly a fairly high asking price for Tesco to be persuaded to let it go it's also a reminder isn't that you know perhaps 10 even lower 15 years ago to Sco was on this international expense and drive a winner to Asia. To America for a while Eastern Europe and since then it's been on a steady rollback and reversing but it's up to the top of the hill announced mounting back down again it's very much so Japan the u.s. Turkey it's all withdrawn from but strangely enough in only in June they announced the ruling another 750 stores am in Thailand so that they were there 2nd and more focused as to where they've been growing but it withdrawn from some of the more mature markets just talk about what the markets think about the election in the way . Papers lots of talk about how the markets seem to be pricing in a conservative victory talking about you know the stirring rallying and also the $40.00 to $50.00 looking point perky do you I mean markets have got this thing dressed the cli wrong in the path of a man yes. All that markets can do is look at opinion polls sacked leave in terms of the u.k. Market it looks as if. The will with the lead that the Conservatives had and they will have a majority in the get the brakes deal done that certainly. Stops the uncertainty in the short term and it could well be that foreign buyers who I suspect opens a standing back and just waiting to see what happens Amy will come in and start buying the u.k. Market again which looks undervalued when you compare it to somewhere lately u.a.s. Thank you very much Laura Lambie from and they stick well for the basement. My son $26.00 and sponsor it's time for the sport has run on a just in with a unanimous points decision win over the weekend in Saudi Arabia for Anthony Joshua to regain those 3 world heavyweight titles lost to Andy Rooney's Judea but now an explanation from Joshua himself for his shock 7th round defeat but he's back in June he was knocked down 4 times in New York you'll remember Joshua says he was unwell at the time though he didn't specify I'd like some issue my health which I was going through for a long time I didn't know what it was what was wrong with me just felt like sorrow tired and drained and I just thought I must be down to training and then I got myself so I don't know Phil when I see a $1000000.00 It was weird even in the changing room before the fight I was like one of the guys can just get me a bucket of water put ice in it I just shoved in my head in my room and what awful so tired and you could see these type of things when I was in the ring Well meanwhile Josh was next opponent is likely to be either the W.B.'s mandatory challenger currently Ukraine's or Xander or the i.b.s. The American character actor Ronnie. Has died in Los Angeles at the age of 79 he played father Mo ca he in Robert Altman's 970 film mash and appeared in television series such as Benson and Star Trek Deep Space 9 Thank you Neil 28 minutes to 7 the end is in sight we're at the beginning of the final week of the general election campaign Ben writes Our political correspondent is not weary of it a tall. Factor core messages presumably for the final few days core messages yes that starkly illustrate the differences between the 2 main parties I mean it's such a extraordinary different offering the 2 main parties are making to voters here you've got Boris Johnson who spend the last 72 hours of this election campaign barreling through Labour's heartlands hoping to breach the so-called red wall of traditionally Labor but leave voting seats in the Midlands and the north and in Sunderland today Boris Johnson will tell voters at a rally that he thinks that Labor have been guilty of a great betrayal but the parties ignore their values and their votes and he's hoping to scoop up the votes of people who voted Labor their whole lives and generations have on the other hand you've got John McDonnell making a speech setting out the priorities for the 1st 100 days of a Labor government which is all about the nationalization of water and energy and he's saying there would be a budget that would pretty much try and reverse austerity and of course he's saying that the Labor would reopen negotiations with the e.u. Completely divergent messaging but the core message and Labor's appeal really is as it were the goodies that you can get it when you vote for them there's a lot on offer in retail terms absolutely I mean there has been a blizzard of offerings from from from labor you know across the board and you know John McDonnell will be doubling down on that today but I think trying to give in to people that Labor will will make you better off and will protect your public. Services I think one concern though perhaps in the labor camp is that there have been so many policies it hasn't really crystallized into a single clean message that sort of offsets or mirrors the Tory message of getting Breck's it done which I think has been quite effective it just cutting through I mean it's a simple easy to understand message that I think the Tories certainly feel is resonating well in those in those labor heartlands in particular you know being wary but on the Conservative campaign battle bus unlike other campaigns in recent years there's not much of a saw of the voters in this one is. No there isn't I was on the bus on Saturday as it went round the north north of England we went to Bolton and there was the prospect briefly of a walkabout in I think it is the Bolton West constituency and there are nervous 10 or 15 minutes as conversations were had and then it emerged that there were some protesters around the police got to achieve and the prospect of a walkabout was called off and that was the 2nd day that happened in a row there has not been much interaction between Boris Johnson and voters there was a walkabout in Seoul's break Tory voting Soulsby that went I think Well as far as the Tories are concerned but no I mean it's a far far cry from $92.00 even $97.00 where you'd see the prime minister the leader of the opposition plunging into crowds walking into town centers taking whatever flak they got that has that has stopped visits are pretty brief the sort of rallies certainly the Boris Johnson has done for you know small relatively small numbers of party activists you might find that feeling a bit different in the next 72 hours I think it will feel more like an old fashioned street campaign perhaps but there is yet a part of to the part the public way that these campaigns used to be had out on the street. Has definitely changed thank you well that's the overview 24 minutes to 7 letters Drew. Well down as the Americans saying go out as we are doing throughout the last few days of the campaign to regions around the nation to hear from our correspondents there we're going to go to the southwest in the northwest today 1st a martinet sues the political reality for the southwest of England give us a sense of what's happening in your area not. Well it was until recently the southwest still largely bore out the old Gilbert and Sullivan miracle everybody comes into the world either a conservative or liberal then 2017 all the Liberal Democrat M.P.'s in the South was wiped out to give David Cameron his majority then of course in 15 rather than 2017 the traditional 2 horse race further interrupted with Labor Schalke ing up a number of historic 2nd places across the region so I mean I think going into this election the Lib Dems had high hopes they might regain places like North call more or North Devon Sadar used but of course approaching these places with this policy of revoking Article 50 Interestingly even the candidate in Sadar used previously longstanding m.p. Has to say 1st he can then this policy and throughout the campaign. In terms of Labor's position talking to activists in those 3 way marginals in places like Terrans farmers Campbell and red Ruth they're telling me they're getting a much warmer reception in middle class areas than they are on council estates which suggests the sort of Chan a party leader this is driven by Bracks it continues to continue straight really that's interesting and not just a northern thing let us turn though to the northwest of England Thanks Martin let's turn to Kevin Fitzpatrick who's a political reporter in the northwest of England and is in Sulphur give us your the overview from where you are Ken Yes some really interesting battles right across the northwest the lead to higher ones where divisions of a break after cause people to reassess their old tribal loyalties many of lasted for decades so I think we're still going to get rock solid majorities across Merseyside but it's in the working class leave 14 times across the north of Greater Manchester where labor is fighting to hold on in many places previously considered activists telling me Jeremy carbon a bigger issue on the doorstep then that breaks it policy and despite these places having been hammered by can see. Of austerity this message from Boris Johnson of getting drugs it done seems to be quite answer in places where they just want to say the back of it and move on wants to watch sometimes like Bolton Barry Warrington some of them were marginals that the Tories left a couple of years ago they need to get those back for a majority crew Nantwich Burnley high paid also really interesting ones to watch the regs it Party had appeared like they were going to be having a big influence in key states. In those areas but as the campaign has gone on support for that seems to have Abdulwahab bought who who leaves the Tories who leaves the Labor Party to support the brags that particle still be crucial in close contests and then in the leafier areas Tolly seats on the threat from the liberal Democrats they're really pushing tactical voting in places like Cheadle Hazell Grove Saif pull out and all of them used to have led them and pays the trying to persuade lever supporters to back them to try to keep the Tories as I mentioned what you say about Germany Corbin being an issue on the doorsteps rather than Bracks it for some previous Labor voters you're really hearing that across the region any Yeah absolutely is just just seems to be a leader in the working class areas that many people can't can't connect with the brakes it policy clearly is a big issue but more than that people just aren't connecting with Jeremy carbon in a way they seem to be connecting with Boris Johnson despite the obvious differences in where Boris Johnson has come from people up here just seem to be getting on board with the idea that one party would get drugs done and another well they will certainly would continue and just turning back briefly humas nodes in even the last period of campaigning now in the southwest and you mentioned some of the places where there is still a battle to be had. Is there from your sense of the doorstep interviews that people are conducting that your conducting middles are the candidates are is this something that can swing in these last few days or put him. In the mines. I think it's coming back to that sort of suggestion that in these Looking at least some of the 3 way marginals these Cornish marginals. You know the reason may be some evidence when you're hearing that. Breaks in positions getting a free frosty reception council estates I'm told people you know being called traitors and actually chased off in some cases but then in some of the very affluent areas getting a warmer message I mean there is maybe some evidence that we could be seeing some sort of remain a coalescence around labor some sense maybe even that that 2017 result which I say resulted in some 2nd place in the rural west country for labor could be repeated so I think that there is some evidence I think for that maybe that sort of tactical shift and great history of tactical voting in the southwest but it's generally been in terms of in favor of the bill Democrats martinets in the southwest and Ken Fitzpatrick as well thanks 19 minutes to 7 and over a look at today's papers a news website Boris Johnson's plans for the final 3 days of general election campaigning featured prominently on the front page of a number of papers the times in the Mail described the Prime Minister's tour of marginal seats in areas of his North Wales and West Yorkshire as a blitz on labor hotlines The Telegraph reports the Mr Jones will deploy what is described as his trump card of Brecht's it relentlessly in an attempt to win Labor held constituencies Guardian says Jeremy Corbyn will return to his core message of the n.h.s. As the campaign years its climax the paper says his pledge that health service risk being sold off the United States in the post breaks a trade deal has hit home with voters candidates and activists are reportedly saying the issue has been brought up spontaneously on the doorstep and during telephone canvassing Johnson 2020 breaks it promises in doubt is a headline in The Financial Times the paper says it scenic strengths of elite one it all report in which officials have expressed doubts that new customs arrangements for Northern Ireland may not be ready into. Competing in all major sports and hosting major international events as well it comes after they failed to comply with the demands of the world and to doping agency water had recommended serious sanctions are to concluding that Russian officials tampered with drug test data that was handed to investigators this year if the sanctions are approved by waters executive committee today it would be of course a major blow to Russia's reputation and prestige in the sporting world Moscow correspondent said a range of. 3 something seems aimed about the sound of a curling stone gliding on ice but Russia's national team these a nervous times I call a fleet fare that's sliding towards a 4 year ban from global sports. The latest twist in the scandal over don't ping I'm not trying to think that further because in caps in on a seed of a is doing her best to blot it all out until Wada the Anti Doping Agency announces that sanctions still haven't training and that I'm just trying to focus on this because that's their area that I can't control and this is not a man and I don't think any rat there that sat with the students your name there you see let the nearly 2000 the problems go back to the 2014 Staci lympics the. Earth from Russia and the president Putin those games were a display of strength skill superiority say. The proud picture was shattered when a scientist play the whistle on a massive stake back that being scheme for their execution this month was part of the cleanup part this is what we're going for here again this was hired to run Russia's reform done t. Doping Agency and he's been praised for not tolerating cheats but for Russia to be fully reinstated the sports ministry had to release a database of athletes test results. Mr Gunness told me that file had been heavily doctored eyesores so huge list of changes and I will didn't understand how it's possible to deal with this changes I was thousands so for that Russian athletes are facing even greater sanctions Yury gonna says come under pressure for speaking out even threatens But he insists that those responsible for this crisis should be removed this is the real bad all schools approach it's impossible to continue using this approach as and in the future because today we live in the transit time in spots Russia. Your interview with us good to see you. The sports minister was busy this week promoting exercise for all and accept life style. Events I got to it was devoted to how much a football the sanctions water is considering would be a blow to a whole generation of professional athletes use the positive out of the hospital or the B.B.C.'s public might challenge the minister on who altered that database he refused repeatedly to answer may he. Was the funniest rather liberal on this side of Cindy Anthony on the leader to bring up the head of the cross country skiing federation was way more outspoken. Is clearly a patriot she's got a picture of bloody made Putin on horseback on her wall truly a dozen of the editors are they didn't why should we believe Wada or not people here she wants to know is anti Russian hysteria is a soap opera we've seen before as for doctoring the database he asked make the people think we're stupid girl would you want to start some clarity do it's just such stupidity it's outrageous it's like someone took part in stuff but secondly made p.d.f. For Moscow's Higher School of Economics thinks this was less of a Kremlin led cover up and. Clumsy attempts by former sports cheats to down have influence to protect what remains of their reputations we will never know this he thinks President Putin actually wants Russia reintegrated into World Sports and I'm like well it's politics that means playing by the rules put in can get away with creamier but he cannot get away was doping and you cannot do sports on your own of course you can have the home Olympics with you know it took me to stand and with North Korean visibility worse but everyone would want to laugh at the. Russians champion current as well it's awfully devoted he is of training aiming for much higher targets and it's best sporting features that will soon be decided. Sarah Rainsford reporting there is no 11 minutes to 7 and time for puzzle for today which has been set by Alex Bell also author of So You Think you've got problems surprising and rewarding puzzles to sharpen your mind a couple plans on having 4 children is it more likely that they'll have 2 boys and 2 girls all 3 of woman sex and warm all of the of now let's turn to climate change the ice is getting dangerously thin the Arctic that was the message of the un climate change conference in Madrid this week and it came in particular from Marcus Rex who's leader of a group called mosaic or an expedition I should say called Missouri which stands for multidisciplinary drifting observatory for the study of climate and he is on the line good morning to you good morning MacArthur tell us where your speaking to us from and what your message is about conditions in the out. Yeah pretty close to the north polar drifting with the ice locked into the Arctic sea ice twisting this in that sort of list of the strata North Pole right now we're 86 degrees north from a 21 degrees east then on our cost you know off. In this 10 off section at cons here of climate change running up yes much Southern any of a part of our planet and for example that a lot extends on farther out that we have a wrong time of temperature as time vomiting has been more than 6 degrees Celsius of the past 25 yet that is a net of warming it's a different route already now and I started to that place it was all over the it was always a completely frozen landscape in the beginning of 1900. The fault at the station was all that follows which cover 3 seasons across a fault now when I get there and in the middle so I have liquid water everywhere as a filter no never flows in for the past 10 years you know go by boat used to go skiing and life with normal bias and different but already know under the climate change conference was if we do know about the old will disappear this is not just about the C.E.O.'s getting fit it really is in your mind about the old disappearing . Very correct if we do not use our government and let the free now if we fail to reduce them to near 0 let you know by the mid of the century. For the big things of the Arctic a major effect on the climate and the rest of the right. That the Arctic about to disappear the Arctic sea ice could completely disappear from and then we would have an open how often have you have a tunnel I cannot go you could just say with a nominee having bottles or not power of God Not something and. And that has major consequences for the climate of phenomena Marcus Rex a leader of the mosaic expedition close to the North Pole thank you for talking to us the time is just coming up to 7 minutes to 7 more buses greener buses at a bus infrastructure more of a safer local authorities about how their buses are run it is hard to remember a gentleman election where the most commonly used form Poppy transport featured so heavily transport correspondent Tom Barrett has been talking to people in crew about buses and more particularly about their buses the buses they use. Are used both is most days in because it's the only form of transport I've got what's the difference in having a bus and not having a bus fear Sivia isolation if I don't have a bus if I'm in crisis I can't get to the hospital is literally a matter of life and death is myself pain it's my appointments apes my social life . The buses being on the decline with more than 3000 services in England and Wales costs reduced over the past decade and local authority funding in England outside of London down by more than 40 percent and we have to because of absolution climate change crew bus station I can actually say they not just a bus driver Yeah yeah health care person because you look left a passenger in just while you drive in the boss you can hear Carol and people need to understand that if item in the local buses fire. In what the council the bus company anybody and everybody because at the end of the day was the seller lifeline and this should be one of the priority is that whichever government gets it they need to look at the impact that it's made by. And the impact is making on people's lives conditional issues this will continue to fight until the bitter end we ain't giving up. The bus system in crew like you most of the country is unregulated that means bus companies decide which routes to run when a particular bus service doesn't make financial sense for the company but is socially important and the council increase case Cheshire East has to stump up some money but the post budget in Cheshire East was cut by a 3rd last year and. In this election all the main parties have committed to reintroducing roots and the Dems have pledged 4000000000 pounds over the course of the next Parliament Labor 6 and a half 1000000000 the conservatives say they'd work out how much is needed in a spending review next year one in 4 of us get on a bus every week there richly embedded into the fabric of the country Graeme diddler from the industry body representing virtually all bus companies in Britain this is the election where we're really seeing politicians wake up to the potential of us they need to keep the country moving they need to do so in a way which helps them towards their No 0 ambitions he welcomes money but says restoring services needs to be well thought through partly to get more smarter buses that come when people are ready to use them perhaps connecting up to larger buses operating on larger roads in the local area. And unregulated bus system is the norm outside of London. But here in Manchester but such a change and one option on the table is a London style franchising system whereby the mayor of Manchester would decide on the routes the fares and then contract out the routes to the bus companies a mask of opens in from better buses from right to Manchester. We know that public control in other words franchising will work because that's what has worked so well in London and in Jersey as well Jersey's increase its ridership by 30 percent in the last 5 years and London's buses a fantastic we need to be able to tell bus companies what services to run when and what bus to put on our streets both the main parties say they support local authorities if they choose to regulate their buses. Hybrid double decker Prius 35 percent less emissions Jerry Nolan is from one but I just can't see how it's legally right for a local authorities come along and confiscate an operator's business without any compensation which represents most of the bus companies in Manchester my objection to franchise in is that it is a bigger hammer to crack a small not amount not can be can be sorted out through partnership by working together and that's the local authority sorting out the congestion part of it on the boat operators then making some savings from well to provide a better network. Whether it's Labor's free bus travel for the under 20 five's or the conservatives saying they'd create a national strategy it's all music to the years of Darren Shirley from the campaign for better transport. It's a veggie buses have been the forgotten form of transport for decades they are the way that people get around day to day. Reported 3 minutes to some time for the weather his staff to announce thanks very much Nic good morning to all starts in the new week off on a very windy notes through yes they overnights we saw the 1st named storm of the season that was storm a 10 named by Mets arrow which brought some damaging winds to parts of the Republic of Ireland and then later across the Irish Sea into parts Wales and the southwest of England we saw gusts up to 80 miles an hour in exposure that system is now moving away into the northeast. Making it strong winds with it but Met Office yellow warnings are still in for city for the next few hours across parts of England and Wales and then the last one should be lifted by around midday sense an improving picture through this off to do with the sunshine becoming more widespread across the u.k. That's thanks to ridge of high pressure building in from the west so with the winds easing and showers easing it should feel too bad but it'll still be on the cool side temperatures today range for around $5.00 to $10.00 degrees in the south then tonight without ridge of high pressure the light winds the cooler air mass it's going to be a chilly night with his clear skies temperatures falling away quite quickly but by the end of the night across northern and western areas the next area of low pressure will arrive so that means temperatures will recover here as the wind and the cloud increases but that sets the scene for tomorrow it's going to be another wet and windy day outbreaks of wind rain spreading across the north and the west and then across the country as the day wears on it looks I would could see a band a pretty heavy rain through the afternoon into the ring with some very strong school he wins with it's a just bear that in mind on the plus side tomorrow for us your thing is going to be a mild a day temperatures range from 10 to 13 Celsius such weather thank you very much needs to have a new series of thought provoking talks comes to Radio 4 boys I knew robbed and carried knives frightened vulnerable musical witty sporty talented young boys personal tales and powerful stories our lives are shaped by these unexpected encounters and happenstances some good some bad a new series of thought provoking talks beginning with the writer Louise doubting I'm a great believer in characters in novels having jobs I think they should eat breakfast and that occasionally their shoes should rub forthought on b.b.c.
