Economy there are also concerns there is a lot of concern about just how quickly the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates what kind of impact that will have on the ability for people to have some extra cash to put into the stock market and also there's the issue according to traders that I've been speaking to that many investors have actually borrowed money to get into this very frothy stock market in the hope of making some extra cash you're seeing starting to see some of that pull out and also a degree of nervousness about the impact of these interest rates in the future Public Health England says it wants the cigarettes to be prescribed on the n.h.s. Good morning the Dow Jones is down deeper and down as stock markets are rocking all over the world because the money would show starring some Louise Cooper u.s. Markets saw their biggest percentage fall for a single day for more than 6 years yes that I should markets. Is it the end of the status quo or is it just a blip that's what we'll be taking a look at also on the program today we'll be hearing from Hillary Pearson one of the 1st women to become a member of the London Stock Exchange as right across the b.b.c. We're marking the centenary of winning getting the pluses while East Coast main line could go back again to being state run but always small in the numbers today Laurin Sydney at the foot see close down $190.00 points to $7335.00 not surprising the stock market crashes in all the papers in terms of the times all the stories out there job losses that Karelian risen to more than 800 and the Telegraph goes with the suffragettes to be part of over the program we'll be hearing from women from different generations different industries with different experiences on what life is like for working women now let us know. What you think how things changed. On b.b.c. Radio 5 Live we're going to crack straight on with the top story this morning of course these market moves so let's cross to Asia and speak to Corish. Asia business correspondent joins us from Singapore Kirshner Good morning good morning what's the latest Well you know it's the same story here in Asia as you've seen in the United States overnight Asian shares very much taking their lead from markets in the u.s. We've seen falls of close to 7 percent on Japan's Nikkei it's recovered slightly since then but still down significantly the same pitch emitted in Hong Kong China and parts of Southeast Asia so many investors here in Asia wondering whether this correction as it's being called in the u.s. Markets is momentary or will it continue will this volatility continue for the rest of the been speaking to many traders here who is saying that the now it does look to be temporary but meant much anxiety amongst investors in this part of the world who generally take their cue from what happens in the United States interesting question I think you will keep an eye on over the rest of the program as well as Asian stock markets moving Karishma Vaswani there joining us from Singapore Louise putting all this into context so you're already hearing from some tried to saying we're not sure if this is temporary or not just give us a rundown How big are the falls we're in the middle of America Ok so roughly 4400 percent food in the major u.s. Stock market indices on Monday followed a 2 percent full day. So that's not huge I mean it's the biggest point fall but that's because the index goes up you know we've had days when the markets fall in a crash over 20 percent and there's been many more days where the percentage fall has been a lot higher however we have had years and years of this really going up very little movement we have become very. Complaisant The other thing is it is it has been a global sell off it was precipitated by the states particularly fears about some inflation but then on top of that the global stock markets have been driven higher but ultra low interest rates 6 dreamily low interest rates and q.e. Because if you're going to earn nothing on your savings and nothing from buying bonds then you dump your you know your your money in shares because you have no choice as to where else to put it because nothing else earns you any money what's happening in the states is that interest rates off slowly moving up and if you think there's inflation in the Fed is going to have to act to move interest rates higher than actually the attractiveness of equities reduces and actually maybe bomb start you know interest rates and saving start a little bit attractive so that's what's caused the wobble and one of the reasons I guess we've been saying repeatedly record high record high record high in America and expensive the u.s. Stock market we look at many different valuations but the classic is pay and it's it is very expensive house and has been very expensive for some time couple of technical things about the u.s. Stock market by the way yesterday is that while European bourses European markets were open the market was only trickling down after European markets closed the u.s. Just literally just fell and fell and fell not much of a recovery and that's the reason why the opening here in Europe will be ugly because we're playing catch up we didn't feel as much yesterday is the u.s. Did because the u.s. Fell in after European markets are close to the opening opening sort of indication for the 1st say is to be down quite substantially. Live over the morning as well so whether you're driving into work on the train keep listening and we'll keep you updated on the stock market moves Truman is where the snare professor at the u.c.l.a. Anderson management and Anderson School of Management in California Brett good morning good morning you have see keep an eye on the market moves over the last few days and particularly yesterday what what drove that yesterday when you're watching the screens. So what people may say that the increases in interest rates that we've seen recently and the fear of inflation that came on the heels of a really good unemployment report last Friday which showed some increases in wages wage growth that sparked new fears of inflation so those 2. Issues came to the fore I think it's important to recognize that these issues have been there for quite some time interest rates have been going up for several months it's known that because of the tax rate the corporate tax rate decrease that there was this additional fiscal So this school stimulus was going to cause a resurgence least somewhat in inflation so these things really didn't take investors by surprise so I think what we get asked the question not why the market go down but why the market go up so much since Trump was elected it's up like 34 percent since November 2016 so I think a large a large part of the reason for the markets fall is just due to sentiment that investors were piling into stocks during the last year being afraid that they were going to lose out this way and get in pushing prices higher and that some point the market had to go down to the market went down last week and investors are getting scared and they're selling their stocks in addition there are. Programs computer programs that are set to move with the market so when the market starts falling there is computer generated trades that just cause markets to fall even further so I see this really as more sentiment driven than anything immediate that's happened over the last few days isn't there always this view that we never know when markets will correct like this and when we do we ascribe a story to explain it but actually the market state move that then moved by emotion and if suddenly there's a little bit of bad news and everybody takes money out of the market that tells you a lot of people were worried about it to start with yes that's exactly right they see as as you mentioned when the market goes up people come up with reasons to explain why it went up in the market goes down they come up with reasons to explain why it goes down but you can't for the most part pinpoint the movement any particular day any particular piece of news so a lot of the volatility has to do with just as you say investors sentiment are they very pessimistic very optimistic but in the scheme of things these fluctuations are not unusual we haven't had a movement of Shri percent down since the last 15 months so the market's been extremely calm the fact that it's gone down now by 6 or 7 percent is not so unusual some to be expected but we shouldn't try to ascribe it to any one particular a meant that's happened Brett thanks very much for joining us this morning bright Truman there who's a professor at the c.l.a. On the same school of management in California Jan said and I'm also with us here in the u.k. Investment director roughen Investment Management morning Jane moaning What do you reckon alaap of the u.k. Stock market is now on the back of all this well I think it's as Louis said it's quite likely that you know we may have further weakness and I think what we've got to remember. Is that you know to some extent where we are adjusting to to the fact that as you say we have rates are rising but actually the economic background is still reasonably good you know what's happening is that we're finally sort of years and years after the financial crisis we're coming out on the other side and as that growth picks up and rates pick up we're adjusting to all of that so I think you know we've got to kind of bear in mind that rates are any rising because economies are strong enough to withstand that plenty more for us to chew over regarding these start market forces to get into it you can text us on night 588-5058 later in the program we'll be talking more about this with Jane use a hash tag why keep the money on social media as well we'll pick it up there we're also talking a lot. 5 Live the rest of the b.b.c. Today 100 years ago some women were given the vote for the 1st time although only those over 30 who owned a property or were married to a man could do that but it was a big moment in their eyes who are in a course we're going to be hearing a lot about this over the rest of our program of the rest of the day on 5 Live but when you will hear a bit lighter from Hilary Pearson he was one of the 1st women who were members of the London Stock Exchange she was a bit shocked when you look at the number of female chief executives in the Footsie 100 today yeah not moved on a huge amount as in terms of numbers that we're still fighting a fact I met one of the 1st ever me female members of the London Stock Exchange I can't member as Hillary a lot many years ago in the 980 s. And meeting her was one of the things that persuaded me to become a stockbroker So there you go the power of a powerful female Well model always good your colleague. Will take some satisfaction of that because they she was telling me we'll hear this ability how disappointed they were that the media follow up from 6 women joining in 1903 wasn't as big as they would have liked but however times at work changed. The women do get in touch with morning text. So what about the next generation our business correspondent Nina war has been to speak to 4 generations of women from the same family. Just outside Telford in the West Midlands with. Some here is 48. I want. Telling them what would have happened if you just said you know I want to focus on my career. Like James that really I don't think it. It came naturally to us as we've sort of like we saw. As our generation's gone so I don't think it was ever really considered a particular option or a consideration that we might want to go ask what do you want to know I just didn't have that by the time you left school you decide it's going to place for. You but it was a really. Describe it it's obvious told by my soldier and. You we're in front of you. That was in 2006 no longer NY really you know. The attitudes of the younger offices some of colleagues who was great fun I was completely welcome but there was definitely a shift in the more senior a mature offices didn't welcome women or they were if they did what do you think about boys talking to girls like they're better than them when they're. Rude Tell me about the fairy tales that you read what do you think about Snow White for example think. They need to rest and then. Come when you leave school what job would you like today. Can't you why. Can a. Shot at your lead practitioner. How Things changed when you compared it to being in the police force how does this compare you can't really compare that to. Being a woman in education is no barrier. Respected the progress that's been made over that century I think it's amazing it's made everything. Thinking I think it's to see. Because you know women can. Sometimes medal in different places and then but I think you know everything as a whole I would change so that. I was a business correspondent Nina worst so mask raising in a champagne brunch to bring 4 generations of women from the same from a shop to fascinate Now Louise when you hear 2006 still entering the police force that you're saying and still coming across problems that we have been talking about people hearing in the sixty's and seventy's when they were in the workplace really interesting column by Davidson leader of the Scottish Conservative Party actually in the Telegraph and she champions all these things that are extraordinary 1st female Metropolitan Police Officer 2nd female prime minister a number of women offered places that Cambridge University exceed that of men for the 1st time in the history that I quote but for the ordinary working woman not a single single penny of advance and this is she talks about how fall we still have to go May in Birmingham has been interchange Hi guys as a female thing say much better no more working 9 to 5 but working hours mutually acceptable 3 cheers for the women who paved the way makes it keep text coming out 5 o 5 I m not really talking lots more about the centenary celebrations but a few songs in the programme status quo are now Dolly Parton's working 9 to 5 we go yeah we're right up to date here on the. Leading stock market the Dow Jones has been hit by its worst $4.00 since 2011 year not long after the financial crisis of course the decline extended losses on Friday when strong wage growth data raised the prospects of accelerated interest rate rises up much more on that in the program very shortly stagecoaches contract to run the east coast main arm rail franchise will end than expected after the government said the operator had gone its numbers wrong and a former executives of the collapse government contractor Karelian will face questions from and pays later this morning more to watch on that few people say Louise that corn actually has egg whites in so not not begun. Jan in Durham pointing that out thank you Chad just just in and Leslie rather has been in touch and I worked for Oxford telephones in the 1970 s. And women have to leave when you got married no option yes leaving the workplace my mom my nan couldn't work because her husband was a placement and my mom Sc even more than my dad as an i.t. Prybar in the 1950 s. She was one of those women pioneering women and because she had the because she was the wife even more than my dad she wasn't on the mortgage because they wouldn't take her earnings into account for the mortgage only the chief breadwinner which was my father big changes will be we're talking about a lot more just after courts to success well look at just one eventually when I was looking at what the business is trending online for some reason Valentine's Day McDonald's plan. And land was jumping up near the top of the business news and looks like they will get in on the Greg's bandwagon of Valentine's Day meal so McDonald's now offering a sit down Valentine's Day Valentine's dinner pan land offering couples the perfect Valentine's Day mailed for 2 pound pound now I mean this is this is where we've got safe interesting that anybody or any Briton Valentine's Day planned budget Valentine's I planned this on I 5 or 5 a lot to talk about in the program today let's get on with this stage contract stage coach contract to run the East Coast Main Line route franchise as a sign will end earlier than expected after the government said the operator had got its numbers wrong the transport secretary Chris Grayling told M.P.'s late yesterday that stagecoach would continue running the London to Edinburgh line but only for a small number of months we can chat about this with Tony miles from the Modern Railways magazine Tony good morning good morning are you surprised at the government's approach here no surprise the government's approach I think they were surprised at how quickly things have changed from a year ago when stagecoach urgent said the numbers weren't quite stacking up but it felt at that point that it did leave a quite a while by injecting money to the degree to to put in to support the business so trading conditions on the rowers perhaps have changed significantly as well. When there's quite a lot of criticism of the way it's working when it goes well the private company makes the profits when it goes badly the private company hands it back to the government do you have sympathy with that criticism it does seem that it's not working very well the companies are told me that even when they're doing well because they go very quickly into profit share they end up working very hard and only getting a small percentage of every pound that they make over an agreed point so the profit share thinkers has dampened enthusiasm for massive profits in this one this is the 3rd time the company has got it wrong Interestingly the secular state didn't mention this. Of course the bids are evaluated by t. With the transport to say where they are so deliverable or not and each time the department said this bid is deliverable so the secular state needs to look at the ability of his own team to actually evaluate bids as well both sides have got it wrong and in this case no bailing out note no financial support the sector status said we're going to look for alternative way of operating the business until 2020 when a new franchise is late and Stagecoach will be taking quite a big hit on this one I yeah it's already a between state church of Virgin Stagecoach is the 90 percent partner they're looking at about $165000000.00 the government is now because it looks like things could be handed over old as an option to a few months time it's saying also you will obviously be paying us any advance ticket fares that you sold the season ticket money that you sold and other money that belongs to the business not to Stagecoach a virgin and they're estimating that that could be around $75000000.00 pounds partly because they sell tickets 6 months ahead so there's a lot banked and do you think just finally this will put off other companies bidding for franchises in future when they say that stagecoach working with the government on a daily and losing a 165000000 pounds and I'm counting on top of it there are 2 concerns one is Some companies are losing interest in its own National Express pull out of the u.k. Completely a couple years ago and companies are now saying the has to be a different way to let franchises that doesn't involve betting what the market will be like years ahead when nobody knows what economic conditions will be around I think there's going to be a different way of evaluating what companies are offering Tony thanks very much Tony Miles that from modern ways magazine I think through a Texas morning we'll get through a few of those a little bit lighter but Luisa get back into these huge market falls that we saw yesterday some think numbers yeah the stock market selloff started in the States and has now taken hold globally Japan's Nikkei 10 percent off recent highs in. India if you look at every industrial sector shares in every industry sector all down indicating this is quite important point a broad based sell off and interestingly if you look at the hour by hour chant you don't really see a rally they fall and continue to fall and continue to fall and I'm looking at the s. And p. From last night the Nasdaq loss from last night and the Nikkei this morning I was a little bit of a rally in the u.s. Markets but then it fell towards the close so it closed in the States towards the low pretty much the lowest level of the day and that's technically quite an important thing to look at all with the still is Jane said investment director at Rathbone Investment Management 4 percent for yesterday in the u.s. 2 percent fall on Friday is this a healthy market correction or something more sinister It is a bit too early to tell but one thing that did happen yesterday was obviously what's triggered this is rising yields in America because of right interest rate but actually the 10 year bond yield which is the sort of benchmark that that investors look at the yield actually fell yesterday for the 1st time in his or any losses for the u.s. House right since the beginning of the year it's risen from about $2.00 to nearly 2.9 And yesterday went back again to 2.8 so a small move I grant you but that actually kind of indicates that perhaps investors are thinking we factored in this change in market conditions we'll see we'll see it's early days it's very nice we look at something called futures that indicate how the u.s. Stock market may open later and they trade in Asia albeit on low volume and they are suggesting the u.s. At the moment could open a couple of percentage points lower again I think that's still possible I mean you know when when these things start to happen it's a quick question some investors are really sort of catching up and some some are really starting to worry and it's as as you say in the end it's sentiment and. It's got to sort of settle down but I think it's quite interesting what's happening with the bond yield and I think it's also important to say that markets generally when you get bear markets we're anticipating a recession I'm not sure that's where we are at the moment in fact the forecasts for earnings growth in the u.s. a Pretty good this year and like they are in percent profit growth from u.s. Companies yes exactly so so you know it's not to say never but it's all it's usually the case that you don't get a bear market unless there's a recession expected or maybe what the market is telling us is maybe we should be expecting a recession but they go that's not going to back the u.k. Stock market opens 8 o'clock this morning likely to be down a lot because playing catch up because the u.s. Big falls overnight like something like could be down something like 56 percent it's possible I mean we've we've got to say as as you say it's about sentiment it's about catch up it's about what the futures markets are indicating and once investors feel they know what's coming then it settles down but at the time being and of course the sentiment can change very quickly as traders come in and start trading those futures it can change it can whipsaw very quickly Yes exactly and I think you know there's also been element I think sometimes in these situations of people talking themselves into market falls and so on and equally talking and sells and market rises so as you say it's a very fragile thing we've got to wait for it to settle down so the key is when European markets open at 8 o'clock and then of course when the u.s. Markets open at 230 the south absolutely So those are the key times of the day the chairman of Karelian when it collapsed Philip Green not that one and the former chief executive Richard housen who left last summer again to give evidence before M.P.'s today about the collapse of the company now in the papers today another 450 jobs to go what sort of key questions do you think they need to answer Well I think is this Funnily enough I think goes back to to your last I too actually. The rail franchises it's all about what price companies bid for work at and whether or not the process for that really works and it seems to me that as well as what price they bid it's also when they know things are starting to turn down when when do they announce that to market so you know that that's part of what this inquiry is going to be all about James pseudonym from what about Investment Management thank you very much a couple of results expected today a card on the oil company b.p. After shell results last week on the currency markets a pound currently buys $1.39 bit a weakness that John and I would try to work out why the dollar was a bit weight but he wouldn't come to any conclusions out of pound currently by one euro $0.13. For news in the past lives this is b.b.c. 5 I wake up some money more importantly raise a few techs coming in on me on your dinner Louise some corn products and I Reagan tried corn nuggets separately there you go also try vegan trees with juicy cranberry says in Totton or very useful for China could be it's me a vegan trace there you go right to keep the text coming in but 1st let's get a few headlines with Jeremy there has been large falls in stock markets call saying in response to one of the state this drops on the Dow Jones index in America today marks 100 years since legislation was passed that gave some women the right to vote for the 1st time Public Health England says it wants the cigarettes to be lived on the n.h.s. I Player radio. Rosa sent us a text saying I was 15 when I left school to train in claves secretarial. College where I learned Pitman's shorthand and typing used manual typewriters learned how to calculate tabulation columns manually 1st taught job typing at age 16 in 916 are lame in Glasgow says Louise 915 he's great Aunt Lizzie took over the running of our family soft drinks business going to ask a lawyer called Joseph Dunn bottlers to allow 2 of her brothers to go to war as many other women did then another under told story we're talking a lot about all of this over the day on 5 Live Today 45 years ago 6 women became the 1st to walk on the floor of the London Stock Exchange before then Edda been an all male affair for 170 years so Muriel would Susan sure Anthea Gaukrodger Audrey get this and this but through this both Clay and Hilary route all made history when they were elected into the house after 2 decades of campaigning I spoke to Hillary about what she remembers from that time and how her career began I was always very interested in the stock market and so when I left university I applied for jobs and full stop breaking firms and they companies offer me in tears and at their best self have made jobs and I just took one of them what point did you start trying to become a member of the Stock Exchange they were not to do they exams even though. Good to be able to be members so I thought well that's that's all good training are do there are 4 exams so I did there's some past them what happened in the end was that they prevent chal stock exchanges already had women members and they decided to merge all the stock exchanges and said Nandan had to fall into line and let the women in generally there were quite a few people who were against it because they thought they might have to behave themselves rather better and pass now I didn't have a problem at all moment I paid. By my family but encouraging what kind of behavior and what did they not want exposed what really went on those of the say quite a lot of swearing and childish pranks and when that market was going very fast in one direction or another got quite hectic that feeling of walking down to the Stock Exchange for the 1st time I mean was there a different failing that day particularly that I think of this mess and now this about all the publicist and I wasn't worried about the people on the floor because I knew quite a lot of them under the climate we're in today where we talk about women in the workplace do you think times have changed very much from when you were walked in on the trading floor as far as I was concerned I was I think I was being paid much the same as a man. From that point of is there wasn't a lot of difference and once they got used to us being around fun it didn't produce a flood of women up cunts but for reasons I don't understand I thought that some women might have been put off going and stop breaking because they couldn't be members but once there was nothing to stop them I thought there would be over 20 years there did you see change in the office where maybe it wasn't quite so friendly as it was in the early seventies by that was beginning but it was partly to do with all the takeovers and big bang and so on because everybody thought they needed to be taken over by a bank or a big a stockbroker they because they needed more capital and so it was the mood in the office different in the mid eighty's to it was in the mid seventy's one of course the mid seventy's was pretty awful because the market was in such a bad way but. Towards the end of the eighty's it was getting pretty pressurised when you see the co-chair that people talk about today I don't know if you saw the coverage of the President's Club. There is you know with is that something you could envisage happening in the seventy's or would that really come to the fore in the 80s I wouldn't have thought that happened in the seventy's but of course I didn't know it was happening now and reach the newspapers that I would be surprised if it did and I have going on the summit is lots of people maybe look at the changing world of the major stocks around the world these days is Facebook Amazon Apple Google and then you've got you know the likes of who burned at the m.b.a. All of these businesses really disrupting the why people think about how business should be done does it feel to you like it's a new challenge for everybody I think it is a new challenge because all these companies are mentioning they have all come paired practically from nowhere one has got to take them into account and they're good old fashioned big companies that waste of their mandate consigned with chemicals and they are else and so on they sort of faded into the background a bit lots of changed since 9073 I was Hillary Perry paste in there Hillary route back in 9731 of the 1st women to become a member of the London Stock Exchange a remarkable time Louise to get the change something like I think it may have been Hillary that I met in the Southampton boat about 986 lovely who inspired me to become a famous stop bike a bit before me that was Jade. Well you know we were just chatting and just saying that I was the youngest ever female member of the stock exchange about 3 months before it was abolished so no one's ever going to beat that and I and I was when I was about 19 because I was working at a time in the summer holidays because I was a London student I needed to earn some money I was working at k.b. And I did I swam for them in the London Stock Exchange swim and I was pretty good swimmer and I won I was the 1st. Woman who'd ever won the London Stock Exchange swim and they had the most fabulous try face I mean you could tell the logic which I just wealthy it was like 3 foot high solid gold and silver went back to like me 18 ten's it was the flashes trophy I've ever seen in my entire 7 grand and they wouldn't give it. That swimming trophy will be ranked as high as Elizabeth. Gave it to me I don't know if I was in a moment but they wouldn't give me the trophy they didn't want my name on it well the reason we're discussing all of this not just Larry just women it's 100 years since women 1st got the right to vote in the u.k. The representation of the People Act 918 was passed on they stay 100 years ago not all women benefit today just those over 30 also meant all men over 21 could vote regardless of whether or not they owned property the change in law and franchised about 21000000 people we're joined this morning as well by a senior executive an apprentice to share their experiences of working life Dr Hiatt is the chief executive of the Royal Academy of Engineering and mire Visum is an apprentice at Char group a small private building contractor and developer and can morning to you both good morning and morning to start with you I mean if you looked at your sector engineering we talked about a few different sectors of the program today police force the city of London how is it in engineering for women right now entering provides fantastic career opportunities for women we did a survey last year of 7000 engineers and 87 percent of women who responded said they would absolutely recommend injuries a great create choice. But only 9 percent of the professional injury workforce is made up of women in the u.k. And that's a shocking statistic in 2018 but as an apprentice when you show if they have both sides of the argument that statement but just 9 percent of women are an engineer and white what do you think of somebody starting out the present she's more besides . I think it's because traditionally it has been quiet down I 88 industry and I think times have changed now and those opportunities are there for me as a woman as a young lady coming into the industry and heighten what have been your most difficult challenges in your career and have it have had anything to do with being a woman or has it been separate Well I'm actually a biochemist my 1st degree I did my Ph d. In biochemistry and then I moved into the world of professional engineering and realised that the challenges I face as a woman use also an ethnic minority. Every much the same across all the parts of my life say I don't think there's an think unique about engineering in that respect I think the real challenge we face in engineering is the very very outdated stereotypes around what an engineer looks like say unfortunately it's still true that if you do the google image search of Engineer you get an absolute sea of images of white men in hard hats where the the main diversity comes in the color of their hard hat and that is Jeff vest and of course you know there are jobs out there where you have to wear a hard hat and. Jacket But you know and there is so much more than that as if coming from a family of Engineers is they always look at the example of Germany and say Well and in Germany engineering is high priests did just high esteem population the profession and it's not in the u.k. And that is a problem with your great well I think this is connected with our very narrow perception of what an engineer is in this country so actually entering a hugely diverse career this samey different sorts of engineer out there from people working in medical robotics to people working in the developing world own solutions to ensure that more people have access to clean water. And so I think the issue of status is something that we've talked about a lot in the u.k. But I'm more interested in trying to make sure that people have to revise their view of what injury looks like and that's why the. Academy together with our partners across the profession including engineering u.k. Have just launched a campaign to reposition engineering in people's minds it's you know these are the jobs of the future these are incredibly vibrant and stimulating opportunities for young people and we need more young people see themselves in engineering more young people from different backgrounds but we also need their influences to parents and teachers who help to influence a career choices to open their minds to what engineering can offer Maya when when we've discussed over the program people being a little bit disappointed Hillary particular and she was a member of the stock exchange about that then weren't lots of women following their lead and going into the city at that time do you think now when you look at your paragraph and other people don't approach is that the people care about whether you're a man woman or a woman entering the workplace. Honestly I don't think so. Well my dad he used to work on a construction magazine and he knew exactly what the construction industry was like and in fact everyone was thrilled I was getting a job and being a part of such a fast growing company like charge like rape and because they were because it's so fast growing and so ambitious I would only be given opportunities to progress and develop and know Arnie for myself but for my career Also I. Just finally before we go what in 100 years from now I would hope that the progress will be a lot quicker do you think they wouldn't even be an issue in 2118 Well he's had a figure I mean you know if you think about the changing nature of work we could all be thinking about one of the jobs that are going to still exist and actually ended in technology great jobs in terms of the likelihood of the future proofing your careers say this is engineering our campaign hopes to showcase that and I would really really hope that we see a much more diverse entering workforce out there 100 years from now high tensile I'm a chief executive of the road Academy of Engineering thank you and also thanks to my face from their apprentice at the chart we create the private building contract Eloise big story of the morning the stock markets falling right to caucus when it starts in Europe and to thirty's when it starts in the States stick with us on 5 live the rest the morning we will keep you updated are all the market movers thank you for all your techs today that's it from Wake up to Monday breakfast up next Sure.
