Its official release. Youre never going to be president of the United States by insulting your way to the president. Im at 42 and youre 23. Im doing better raub cans taking off the republicans taking off the gloves for the fifth and final debate, sparring on the Issue National security and foreign policies. Good morning, im dalt jers. Ers del walters, and im patricia sabga. Paul beban has more on the plan to keep the country safe. Reporter with the race entering the final stretch, stakes in las vegas were high. Nine candidates debated on who would be tougher on terrorism. Donald trumps plan to bar muslims drew fire from all the other candidates. Former Florida Governor noah bushell was itching for a fight. This is the chaos candidate. He would not be the commander in chief we need to keep the country safe. Jed doesnt believe im unhinged. He said that. He failed in his campaign. Trump and bush were not the only ones sparring. Calling ted cruz and others on National Security. Does ted cruz rule out legalizing people in your country. Do you rule it out . I have never supported legalisation and i do not intend to. Chris christie saw an opening there. Using the senators victory to count experience. This is the difference between a federal prosecutor doing something. Spending your life as one of 100 debating this. Lets talk about this, not about which bill they liked more. Overall the tone seemed to be set which fear, a sense that americans are upset. Afraid. Taking on terrorism and Hillary Clinton. Like all of you im angry. Angry on what is happening to our nation. Reporter perhaps the Biggest Surprise of the night was the deescalation between donald trump and ted cruz, who surged in the polls. When asked about calling cruz a maniac, trump sung the senators praises. He has a wonderful temperament. Hes fine, dont worry about him. Whether what looked like a nonaggression pact will last. Depends on whats between now and the next Republican Debate on january 14th Political Correspondent Michael Shure is live in las vegas, you talked to donald trump after that debate. He is the front runner, how does he feel about the performance. Good morning, yes, i spoke to donald trump after every debate, and last night sort of mimicked the way he was in the debate last night. A little calmer, less of a schoeman, confident. It wasnt one of his strongest debates, but he stayed above the fray, which is something he has not had a cans to do. Hes been in the fray, we saw interaction with jed bush. Also, he faced a lot of questions to open the area of muslims. As you expect. He faced some of that. He handled the heat well. Throwing it back to the people that have been having conversation, with whatever candidate he might be. I had a chance to ask him. And my colleague ali velshi about some of what he the conversations that he had about muslims and some of the insendiary things that he had to say. Also, you talked to Rick Santorum, tell us about him, and well come back to ali velshi. I should say a lot happened last night, it wasnt just donald trump, there was the undercard debate. And i talked to Rick Santorum afterwards. He said some provocative things, they dont give a lot of run. I like to talk about it. There were substantive things, things that defined the party. Rick santorums prove sockive things, talking about the fact that we were headed to world war iii. This war that we are in now is not a new war. It is a war that existed for 1,000 years, and was a global war for 1,000 years. The idea that we dont seem to understand that its back and that its virulent and funded and while it is not in the same condition from a standpoint of military power, as it was under the otto man turks or before that, the reality is that it is a serious conflict that is global in nature, and that threatens the very existence of western civilisation these sorts of conversations that happened in these earlier debates dont get a lot of run. Its something the way the party looks at the world. And all the time. Going back to what we said with donald trump, again, these were the comments that he reactions to the comments that hes made recently about muslims, about borrowing muslims from coming into the country. We talked to donald trump about that specifically. Muslim friends of mine, who are phenomenal people. They said to me these are really successful people, have you done a tremendous disservice. People have loved the muslims, and we have unbelievable relationships. I watched on television and said a good job. Have any of your friends challenged you on that. Some are happy. Some not so happy. We have to discuss the problem. Do you think theres a way of getting that Problem Solved without being strident. We have to find out where the problem comes from. He says he knows the problem and has the cure. The debate was marked by the fact that marco rubio took a bigger role in this debate, in that a lot of candidates went after him. Thinking in a group way that if trump were to fade marco rubio would inherit the traditional republican role, and some. Like rand paul, ted cruz didnt want to see it happen on the democratic side of the ticket they are concerned about marco rubio. Michael sure, thank you for being with us. On the democratic tied president ial candidate took a swing at rivals over i. S. I. L. And guns. It defies commonsense that republicans in congress refuse to make it harder for terrorists to find guns. If you are too dangerous to fly, you are too dangerous to buy a gun period. Clinton says the nation needs a comprehensive strategy to defeat i. S. I. L. , including curtailing recruitment and training overseas and at home. Stay with us, in 10 minutes well ask a former george w. Bush staffer for his take on the policies, and well fact check what the candidate said. In los angeles, the School System is said to be up and running. The Public Schools were closed, following a threat to attack the system with bombs and assault weapons, it appears that threats were a hoax. We have more from los angeles. With kids already headed to school after 7am local time on tuesday, the Los Angeles School district made a decision to turn buses around and close more than 900 schools because of a bomb threat. Forcing 700,000 students to stay home. When you heard there was a bomb threat. What went through your mind. Initially there was terror. Officials say an email was sent last night. The attack would come through multiple forms. The l. A. U. C. Said it had no choice but to close schools. Based on past circumstances, i could not take the chance. At the same time authorities said they received a threat. As laers, its our job to protect public order and keep things moving forward in the city, and not aid and abet those that wants to panic. To disrupt daily schedules of half a million, parents, day care, buses, based on an anonymous email. I think it was a significant overreaction. That remark appeared to prompt a sharp response from the current chief. Itself easy in hindsight to criticize a decision based on results that the decider would not have known. An International School safety expert says the districtwide shutdown takes a shut down. What of the analysis that goes into the deciding whether a threat is credible. That is a great question. Thats the kind of question that our country needs to ask now. Not saying that local officials shouldnt be involved, but without a criteria nationally that has put fourth through on what are the kinds of variables that people should consider, and who other organizations should be part of that, youll see a wide variation from city to city. If it wasnt for San Bernardino, its questionable whether all the schools would have been shut gown. Down. Its the spectre of the facts weighing on the minds of the families. The concern for all of us, having the terrorist attacks happening. In places as formal as the situation in San Bernardino. Especially for children that prepare through lockdown trills. Drills. What goes through your pined. In it was real. I would be squared. Extra patrol officers on handmakes sure the transition goes smoothly. The superintendent is looking beyond los angeles, and how best to respond to a new era of threats. One state education official saying the district stands to lose about 29 million in attendance funding because of a decision to close the schools jurors will get back to school, trying to reach a verdicts in the first trial of the death of freddie gray. Tuesday, a judge was told they were deadlocked over charges. The judge ordered them to keep trying. John terrett is live in baltimore for us. John, you have been following this trial from the beginning. Any chance of the deadlock being broken. Well, limited optimism, im afraid i would say. Good morning. Because we dont know enough about it. All we know is 3 30 yesterday the jury files into the courtroom handing a judge a piece of paper, rein on it were the words we are deadlocked. The judge is a nononsense guy and did the only thing he could do, which was to say get back in there, and try harder. They worked until 5 30 and will be back at 8 30, meaning theyve deliberated for 1112 hours. We dont know what they are stuck on or what the split is. What happens if the jury cant reach a consensus by the end of today . We are now looking at the possibility of a mistrial. What will happen is if the jury, when it comes back at 8 30. If they come back saying we are hopelessly deadlocked. The judge will have a conference with him and say will any more deliberations help. If they look blankly, theyll have a meeting with the lawyers, if they agree, hell declare a mistrial, theyll have to have a new trial date in front of a new yourie in the knew year, and that means for the other five trials, i dont know john terrett, will be following that. Thank you john terrett in baltimore congress will likely have to pass a bill. Negotiators are trying to finalise the deal. House speaker saying an agreement is in place. The deal would fund the government through 2016. It does, however, increase the deficit, extending dozens of tax breaks, and lifts a 40yearold plan. A vote on the final deal expect by the week. Global Financial Markets bracing for the first Interest Rate mark in a decade. The Federal Reserve expected to raise shortterm Interest Rates quarter of a point. Its been hovering near zero, the move will increase borrowing costs and dampen wages. Sabres win, theyll earn more on their deposits. Well talk about the decision on american paychecks in the next half hour. Fact checking the candidates well tell you who strayed from the truth and who bent it all out during the debate in las vegas. And the Muslim American response. A group of muslims offered their opinions on what the candidates had to say. What the Obama Administration gets wrong is when gig bad happens, they focus on lawabiding citizens. Instead of focussing on bad guys, we need to focus on islamic terrorist and stop them. That was ted cruz, a candidate trying to get his point across. At times the statement hovered between fact and fiction. Al Jazeera David Shuster went searching for the truth. We need toughness. It was another debate where donald trump may have connected with republican sentiments, but got his facts wrong. Our country is out of control. People are pouring across the southern border. In fact, the flow of illegal immigration dropped to its lowest level in decades. 400,000 a year. 15 years ago Government Data says the figure was 1. 6 million. Trump delivered a whoppa, when he spoke about getting tougher on the family of terrorists. People were put into plains, friends, family, girlfriends, and put into planes and sent back, for the most part, to saudi arabia. They knew what was going on, they went home and wanted to watch their boyfriends on television. But the expensive investigation found that the high jackers tuttut off contact with their families, and none had their families in the United States. One of the nights biggest clashes involved rand paul and marco rubio. Paul hit rooubo hard in his marco rubio hard for his support of comprehensive immigration reform. Hes the one for an open border. The comprehensive bipartisan bill the senator wrote was 40 billion to strengthen border security. For his part. Marco rubio attacked senator cruz. You supported it. It is not accurate. It supported legalization. I led the fight. On that. Cruz was spract and marco rubio was wrong. Several attacked obama. Carly fiorina accused many not monitoring the threat. They need to be asked to bring the best and brightest, the recent technology to the table. Google and microsoft have been ask the and repeatedly resisted. Ted cruz hit the administration this way. The Obama Administration keeps getting wrong, that whenever anything bad happens, they focus on lawabiding citizens. That is not true. After the attack in president obama, they spoke to the nation and focused mostly on the bad guys. Iraq and syria, air strikes are taking out leaders. The biggest gaffe of the night may have come from chris christie. When he pledged to get u. S. Allies more engaged in battling i. S. I. L. I say this you have a friend who will stand with you to fight the fight. Hell change his mind. Jordans king hussain died, since then the leader was his elder son, king abdullah. Fact check groups say. G. O. P. Debate produced more than 20 inaccurate claims. David shuster. A republican strategist. The president outreach under george w. Bush. Donald trump is a frontrunner. Will he do anything to change stats us . I think donald trump helped himself, he made it clear to the American People and rush cans, that he was going to run as a republican, and took off the table an ideas that he would be a third party candidate. For those on the sense, how serious he was, he solidified that last night. In terms of Foreign Policy he did what he needed to do. Showing that he could be commander in chief. He was not as strong as he could have been. Foreign policy was not his strong suit. He did find. As we pointed out. There were a lot of whoppers in the debate. As a strategist. Do you tell the candidates to say whatever it takes to move the needle as far as votes are concerned, regardless of whether its the truth or not. Most do not Pay Attention to the Fact Checking after the debate. Facts are important. What we tell candidates is to there the sound bite, resonating with the American People that are watching. Not necessarily not having. Even if its not true. Thats not accurate. We want the candidates to Say Something that will get them a headlines. Thats why jed bush went out and attacked donald trump, saying he was the chaos president. And significantly they had chaos presidency. Com thinking to jed bushs website. What does it take to get your name in the spotlight. What does it take to get the name i. D. Up. Sometimes you say things that are more exciting. Excitable to get your name in the light. Its not about being factual. It is about saying it that is provocative so people Pay Attention. A lot of people says it was a make or break moment for jed bush, do you think his numbers will rise . I dont think so. This was make or break for governor bush, and he said last night after the debate that this was the commander in chief debate. Whether he can be commander in chief is another question. As it relates to poll numbers and standing. Donald trump says he started in the center and will keep moving further down. I dont know if the governor helped himself. When you look at the fact that it wasnt about him. When he tried to go after donald trump, which he continues to do, it does not work. He stumbled on the opening and closing. In terms of looking strong and being commander in chief, i dont think he stood up to the test. If you or a Muslim American, or if you were a muslim that does business in america, do you leave the debate. If you are a Muslim American with business dealings in this country or living in this country, you felt that the Republican Party is diverse in their opinions as it relates to National Security. There are some that may have a temporary stop. I dont think that there was anything that should have given alarm or pause, relating to how the candidates feel. Joining us from washington d. C. Thank you one group of american muslims was watching the debate, just outside washington d. C. And as al jazeeras bisi onileere found out, they had strong opinions on the candidates, the issues and donald trump. If we change jewedism here, more than a dozen americans were both sides of the aisle. Taking the republican president ial debates. We are not talking about religion, but security. The nonprofit Advocacy Group is holding the gathering. The candidates face use. Reaction keeps off. Crime, gang terrorist. Theres so many other things. In the past month attacks rocked paris. With the u. S. On edge. Islamaphobia and anxiety is at its highest. The sentiment may have existed after 9 11. Its almost acceptable. I. S. I. L. And National Security. As a republican, how do you feel about what you heard. The focus and probably the biggest thing on muslim minds. What people dont realise is thaties and the movement is fright impinge. Our country is out of control. People are pouring across the border. Since proposing a ban. Trump faced a fire sorm. Poll numbers surged. He is one person. That is concerning. The race heats up. The leader will unite the nation, instead of divide it nobel prize win, Malala Yousafzai is criticizing donald trump. They should be careful. Do not blame the population, it cannot stop terrorism. It will create more terrorists. She was speaking at an event on tuesday. Marking a year since the taliban killed 150 people. She reiterated her call for quality education. It points out most of those that died have been muslims. When we come back, going one on one with donald trump. He talks with his ban on muslims, and why he says hes the best candidate in the field. And banning the toy guns. The crack down over firearms. And yes, they look real. Every day is another chance to be strong. I cant get bent down because my familys lookin at me. To rise, to fight and to not give up. Youre gonna go to school, so you dont have to go war. Hard earned pride. Hard earned respect. Hard earned future. We can not afford for one of us to lose a job. Were just a family thats trying to make it. A real look at the american dream. Hard earned. Sunday, 10 00 eastern. Only on al jazeera america. Welcome back to your world this morning, taking a look at todays top stories. Congressional leaders say they have reached a deal, they say they can now keep the government open, a spending package with money for defense programs. A baltimore jury gets back to work this morning in the trial of a Police Officer accused of killing freddie gray. Tuesday they told the judge they were deadlocked. The judge told them to keep trying. He is the first Baltimore City Police Officer to be tried for grays death. National security dominating last nights republican president ial debate in las vegas. Theres now just one more Republican Debate and six weeks left before the crucial Iowa Caucuses. Donald trump is defending his plan to ban muslims from entering the u. S. In a conversation with al jazeera, he said that the proposal had nothing to do with isolation. Instead, he said it had everything to do with security. Quickly, if you were running against donald trump, what would you do . I think id give up. He cant be beaten. He cannot be beaten, id give up. What do you think about look, i was overseas when you made your comments about muslims not coming in. Im canada that and muslim and was a little scared it wouldnt happen. You dont mean that, do you. I have many, many great muslim friends, great people, incredible people. They called me, some of them, some are a little bit not so happy but many called me and said donald you have done one of the great services, because we do have a problem and by bringing it out, we can solve it. Can you do it in a different way, rephrase it . Theyre such amazing people, but we have to solve the problem. There is a problem with a certain small group and we have to get that Problem Solved because that small group can cause tremendous havoc. Youve seen that. Muslim friends of mine who are phenomenal people have said to me you have done such a and these are really successful people, by the way, you have done such a tremendous service. People, i love the muslims and in have so many unbelievable relationships. I watched you the other night on television and i said you did a good job. Have any of these friends of you challenged you . Some were not so happy, but some are really happy because im bringing out something we have to discuss. We have to cuss the problem. Do you think there is a way of getting that Problem Solved without being so stride dent. We have to get the problem involved. In San Bernardino, that guy was born here. But she wasnt and she was heavily radicalized and shouldnt have been allowed to come in and they created havoc. You have 14 dead people and others are going to follow suit because you have badly injured people. Its a very sad situation. You know what, by bringing it out to the fore, well get the Problem Solved. Are we immigrants going to stick together . If you stick with him, you cant miss. Great to see you. That debate was closely watched in New Hampshire where the first republican president ial primary will be held. Al jazeeras libby casey has more on that. The debate action may have been in las vegas tuesday night, but voters in New Hampshire were watching because they have a big decision coming up. February 9 they go to the polls in the primary to help figure out who will be the next president ial candidate. Republican voters say they are really drawn to trumps ability to say whatevers on his mind. They like the fact he is not your typical politician. Some say he goes too far such as saying muslims should be banned from coming to the United States, they are drawn to his rhetoric and to the fact that he is not worried about what people may think of him. Theyre watching other candidates they feel are not following a Political Correctness standard, like Carly Fiorina. The question is more mainstream candidates who served in office, can they make a dent here. Chris christie has been in the state a lot, done town halls, so voters are drawn to him. We will see marco rubio come to the state today. He has not spent much time at all in the granite state. Donald rump hasnt spent a lot of personal time here either. That hasnt seemed to hurt him even though he hasnt done that hands on approach these voters are used to, they are drawn to someone they feel may be a celebrity but find value in the way he is delivering his message. New hampshire serving as the stage for the next democratic debate taking operation saturday night. This morning, the Federal Reserve is wrapping up its latest policy meeting and is wide leexpected to announce it will raise Interest Rates for the first time in nearly a decade. Many fear it could have a big impact on Americans Still struggling despite the recovering economy. Our guest is from washington this morning, thank you for joining us this morning. Thanks for having me. Janet yellen has said that shes worried if the fed waits too long to pull the trigger, inflation could accelerate to the point it would have to tighten abruptly and derail the economic recovery and possibly push the economy into recession. Does she have a point . I dont think so at this time. I mean when you look at the data on both wage and fries inflation, they are far below what you would want to see in a healthy economy. Inflation is coming in well below the fed said 2 target and has been for years now and theres no real sign of any acceleration even in pretty recent data. Theoretically thats a worry you can have an overheating economy that you need to ripe in, i dont think thats the economy we have today. The Economy Today still needs support from the fed, i think. What does this mean for low wage workers if the fed pullles the trigger today . What position does this leave them in . So todays 25 basis point increase, if they raise it there, and then they Say Something along the lines of ok, further increases will be totally dependent on data, were not going to raise until we actually see some durable increases in wage and Price Inflation, then i think we come out of this ok. If instead todays rate is a signal that its going to start to be a regular rate increase and were going to try to hold the line and not let unemployment get too far brother what it is today, thats bad for low and moderate wyoming workers. Those workers need moderate market to get todays increases. Todays signals that were not going to let them get tight labor market, i think we are not going to see much wage increases for low and moderate wage workers. Explain to us how a hike ripples through the economy and tie the hands of low wage workers who are waiting for a raise and have not been getting a meaningful wage not just for years but decades. The fed raising Interest Rates is trying to nudge down the pace of Economic Growth, as they raise Interest Rates, that should raise the rates on credit card rates and adjustable mortgage rates, so that gives a little less money for households to spend. Its going to put down a slowdown on the mortgage re15s boom which has held the economy for the last five or six years. It makes it more expensive for businesses who want to expand, open a new franchise, a new factory, a new though tell, so all that Economic Activity gets nudged down. That means you stop downward progress on unemployment. That means you dont have tight labor markets where workers can say i need a raise or im going to find one of those other plentiful jobs in the economy. On its an attempt to slow the pace of Economic Growth which means a looser labor market. Is there any harm in waiting just a little longer to raise Interest Rates or is the fed compelled to pull the trigger now while it feels the conditions are good . I dont think theres much harm at all in waiting. I mean, the downside of waiting too long, and i dont know everything, maybe im wrong, maybe wage and Price Inflation is about to accelerate, but weve been belowth targets for wage and Price Inflation for so long that we actually probably want to overshoot them for a while in an adjust period to get back to economic health, so if we have three, six months of inflation actually going above the pretty conservative 2 inflation target, i dont think thats a disaster. I think the fed can reel the economy back in when its growing too fast. The fed has a harder time spurring an economy that is pretty weak. The metaphor is pushing on a string, the zero Interest Rates dont have a ton of push in helping the economy grow faster. Theyve helped a bit, but they can reel the economy in if its overheat, rate increases. I dont think theres a big danger in waiting a little bit longer. Ok. Josh birches of the Economic Policy institute, thank you so much for joining us this morning. Thanks for having me. The mayor of flint michigan wants federal help over the citys water supply. It has lead in it. Tuesday, the city declared a state of emergency. The tests there show high levels of lead in children that have been drinking from the citys tap. The mayor said the city cant handle the problem by its and needs federal help. A majority of americans say they are against a ban on owning assault weapons. A newark to know post abc poll said 37 are opposing a ban today. Under pressure from new yorks attorney general, 30 on line retailers who sell on amazon have agreed to no longer offer some toy guns to new york residents. Year after year, we have found that retailers such as walmart, amazon and kmart chose profits over safety and in the process put thousands of new york kids and Police Officers at the risk of a tragic and even deadly encounter. A new york law prohibits the sale of those realistic toy guns in the state unless they feature a brightly colored tip to show theyre not real. The Attorney Generals Office said the Companies Still sold thousands of replica guns in the state in recent years. A similar gun was the 112yearold tamir rice was holding when he was shot and killed by police in cleveland. Under the deal with new york state, the retailers have paid 27,000 in fines. Thats on top of the 300,000 some Big Box Stores like walmart, sears and kmart paid in their deal with the state earlier this year. Those stores also agreed to stop sell those replica guns. Gun Safety Advocates say new yorks campaign against realistic looking toy guns needs to be expanded nationwide. The fact that congress has chosen not to regulate this per pervasive and lethal Consumer Product is a great tragedy and shame that americans need to do something about. Halve a dozen states have laws on the books dealing with toy guns. Another seven have introduced legislation to create or amend such laws. The new York Attorney general says that since 1994, there have been 63 shootings in new york state that involved realistic looking toy guns. Eight of those shot died. John henry, you talked about the new york state requirement or to market these guns with an orange tip, but new york city is even tougher, you told us. Id say a lot tougher, actually. An orange tip is not enough in new york city. In new york city, a gun must be completed covered in bright almost cartoonish collars. Theres nothing to deep keep a determined person from brightly coloring a real gun. I saw on halloween guns that looked very real. It is a problem. Texas will keep National Guard troops on the border to block people crossing from mexico. The deployments began in the summer of 2014. At the time, hundreds of families and unaccompanied minors were streaming over the border each day. The governor said the deployment remains necessary since the federal government isnt taking action. Heidi zhou castro has more. Here along the rio grande we are steps from mexico and with an uptick in the number of children trying to cross this river into the u. S. , the Texas Governor has called for reinforcements. 18 months ago, state leaders responded to a surge in immigrant children by sending nearly 1,000 National Guard troops to the border. That deployment was to end this month. Now Texas Governor greg abbot is extended the mission in response to a new spike in the number of immigrant kids caught at the border. In the last two months, more than 6,000 children, mostly from Central America were caught in the region. Thats almost double the number apprehended in the same time period last year. Federal officials took drastic steps last week to make certiorari living quarters for nearly a thousand of those children who recently crossed. As their immigration case is processed, they are staying at summer camps further north. Texas leaders criticized the move saying the childrens presence is a burden on local counties and a security risk. With their extended deployment, National Guard troops will remain at strategic locations along this border to deter illegal crossings. Governor abbot has called for state troopers to increase patrols here, both in the air and on the water. Thats al jazeeras Heidi Zhou Castro in la raid day, texas. Defense secretary ash carter is in baghdad this morning, part of a week long trim to the middle east. Hell be talking to the top military commanders about ramping up the fight against isil. Hes going to try to explain the decision about the u. S. Sending more troops to iraq. The defense secretary was in istanbul yesterday. What is ash carter hoping to accomplish during this trip to the middle east . Ash carter kicked off his trip here in turkey in the southwest of the country. The message he delivered here is one hes taking across the middle east and that is that he wants turkey and the gulf countries particularly to do more in the fight against isil. Turkey in the summer opened up a base to the u. S. Coalition, allowed it to be used, launching airstrikes against isil targets in syria. Turkey itself has only really been doing airstrikes against kurdish p. K. K. Separatists, not much against isil. Ash carter wants turkey to do much more, wants the gulf countries to do more, as well. The u. S. May have naval and air bases all over the gulf, but what ash carter wants is the gulf militaries to help more with personnel and with hardware. This is a huge debate here in the United States. Is there anything new about the u. S. Approach to fighting isil or is it just more of the same . Well, i think a lot of it is that we are hearing from the Obama Administration that they really need to step up this fight against isil. They need to push any advantage that theyre getting. Ash carter is meeting in baghdad not only with the iraqi Prime Minister, hes also meeting with lt. General mcfarland, the commander of the u. S. Coalition forces in syria and iraq to discuss tactics. They want to know what they can do, if theres any other way they can push this fight against isil. In last nights Republican Debate. Candidates talked arming the kurds and sunni forces and other groups. Does that play into the current strategy . Well, we though that the u. S. Believes that the Kurdish Forces particularly on the ground in syria are the most effective fighting force against isil. The u. S. Has been arming them with small arms, with small weapons, often through third parties. The u. S. Might want to do more. It is particularly concerned about upsetting turkey, turkey is worried about increased kurdish autonomy along that border with turkey and syria, it is treading a fine line because it uses these turkish bases. For the u. S. , theres no doubt that particularly the kurdish groups on the ground have been the most effective force. The u. S. Is always looking for ways it can help the kurds take more of the fight to isil. Bernard, thank you very much. The white house is not ruling out action against iran for conducting a missile test in october. Many in congress are calling for sanctions, after a team of u. N. Experts said that test violated a Security Council resolution. Those experts also said the launch was not technically a violation of the iran nuclear deal. Heading out for the holidays. Millions of you plan to hit the roads and we could be looking at records when you do. Star wars mania, its already a box office force, even before its official release. Take a look at this frightening scene in nashville. This was a Southwest Airlines jet that rolled off the runway. 133 passengers and crew onboard, eight were hurt. Investigators dont believe that weather was a factor. A Record Number of travelers about to hit the roads for the holiday, aaa predicts that for the first time there will be more than 100 million travelers on the move in the last week of 2015. The Automobile Association saying 91 of you will be driving. Gas falling below 2 a gallon in most places is probably the reason. That is the lowest price at the pump in about six years. A record snow day, its frustrating commuters across the state of colorado. Roads are icy there this morning. More than seveninching fell at the denver airport, shattering the record set more than a century ago in 1987. Hundreds of flights were grounded, schools and College Campuses were closed during the storm. Now that storm is moving east and our storm tracker. [ laughter ] the awesome nick is waiting by, too. People dont always think im awesome when they hear whats to come, but anyway, the snow has moved into the Northern Tier of the country. Before i get off the view, you can see the cloud cover starting to come in about a impact the northwest. Youll hear me talk more about that over the next days. In the east, this is picking up more gulf moisture, so you can see the rain line starting to develop more with this storm system. Some of this will be more rain, because we still have the core temperatures weve talked about for so long, temperatures like 63 in memphis. That would definitely cause rain versus snow. The Northern Tier where the last front cooled things down pretty significantly, cold enough to support the snow, some places along interstate 29 for example in north and south dakota, that would be a trouble spot through today. This will wind down today, so less snow. Where we have the winter storm warnings widespread, some places getting six to eight inches easily. Well still have digging out to do. Most of the snow continues north. We have the rain line developing along this moving from today to tomorrow along the east coast. As i said, theres already another system behind that. This is tomorrows forecast where we can see what the rain is, most of this snow is whats left from today and a little bit of clearing out, but we get much more active in the northwest for the next couple of days, so not really a break for people starting to get the jump on the holiday. Thats a lot of people on a lot of bad roads. Nicole, thank you very much. In australia, a rare tornado made a mess of the streets of sydney, tumbling cars and ripping um homes and businesses. One Shopping Center had a partial roof collapse. Emergency assistance received more than 500 calls after the storm. No major injuries have been reported. Star wars wont be in theaters nationwide until early friday morning, but its already making history. Nothing will stand in our way. I will finish. Advanced ticket sales now exceeding 100 million in north america. That is the most ever, four times the record holder, the Dark Knight Rises back in 2012. Wow. I will be there. The force. The force awakens. Ahead, the final Republican Debate of 2015, what the candidates had to say about National Security and each other and where the truth lies. The fed now close to the decision, the effect an Interest Rate hike will have on americans who find themselves still struggling. We will be back in two minutes with more of your world this morning. Stick around to see it. Im off the coast of hawaii. We are on the Tipping Point of an ecological disaster. This coral is not dead. Techknows team of experts show you how the miracles of science. This is what innovation looks like. Can affect and surprise us. I feel like were making an impact. Lets do it. Techknow where Technology Meets humanity. All nine of the people here would make an infinitely better commanderinchief than barack obama. Security, safety and a common foe, republican president ial hopefuls spar at their final debate of the year. Muslim american republicans watch what the candidates have to say, their stance on the gop and islam. L. A. Schools shut down, the hoax that sent students home. I dont have nothing in the book and nothing in the bank. Os we await the fed decision, the negative impact an Interest Rate hike could have on low wyoming workers. Welcome to your world this morning. Im patricia sobga in for stephanie sy. Im del walters, republican president ial candidates sparred over National Security, Foreign Policy and just who will keep the nation safe. Theyre back on the campaign trail now but spent the night in las vegas hammering each other just six weeks before the Iowa Caucuses. Al jazeeras paul beban takes a look at what the candidates said. With the race interesting the final stretch before the Iowa Caucuses on february 1, the stakes were high in las vegas. Nine president ial candidates tangled over who would be toughest on terrorism and protecting americans. Donald trump and his plan to bar muslims from the United States drew fire from all the other candidates, but former Florida Governor jeb bush was really itching for a fight. Hes a chaos candidate. Hed be a chaos president. He would not be the commander in chief we need to keep our country safe. Jeb doesnt really believe im unhinged. He said that simply because he has failed in this campaign. Its been a total disaster. Nobody cares. Trump and bush werent the only ones sparring. Senators marco rubio and ted cruz went after each other on National Security and immigration. Does ted cruz rule out every leadinging people that are in this country now. I have never supported legalization and i do not intend to support legalization. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie saw an opening, using the senators bickering to tout his executive experience. This is the difference of having been federal prosecutor and actually doing something or spending your life debating it. Lets talk about doing this, not which bill each one of these guys likes more. The American People dont care about that. Overall, the tone seemed set by fear, that americans are afraid and looking for a leader fierce enough to take on terrorism and Hillary Clinton. Like all of you, im angry, im angry at whats happening to our nation. The citizens, its time to take our country back. There was deescalation between donald trump and senator cruz who has surged in the polls. When asked about calling cruz a maniac, instead, he sang his praises. He has a wonderful temperament. Hes just fine. Dont worry about it. What looked like a nonaggression pact whether will last depends on what happens at the next debate. Michael shure is live in las vegas. You were in the spin room after the debate. Whose message resonated the most last night . If youre in the spin room, patty, and good morning to you, youre going to hear each campaign say that their message resonated the most, but from where i was sitting earlier and from the feeling i got speaking to other journalists there covering the story, ted cruz really had a successful night, successful in defining marco rubio as not conservative enough. I think that was a big part of the way he went after rubio, tying to align him with a compromising and more moderate group of republicans working with democrats. Rand paul, fighting from below, a lot of people wondering whether his campaign is going to survive. Rand paul had one of his better nights. So did john kasich, not engaging other candidates, but a question is of course is there enough time for his message to resonate. He needs a change in the dynamic of this group of candidates. He needs other people to drop out for him to be good. Of course, all eyes on jeb bush, when is it going to work. Last night maybe it began to work but not enough, not with the exclamation points bush needs. You mentioned rapid paul. You spoke to him after the debate. What did he have to say especially about the fight against isil. A lot of the candidates trying to find their way around the things that donald trump that said about isil, about muslims, trying to find a Common Ground with other republicans, maybe things that are more reasonable. I talked to rand paul after that and he had a couple of ideas. I think that we, if we want to defeat terrorism are going to have to have a broad, long term strategy. One is were going to have to be careful about admitting people to our country who are terrorists and two, we have to think about whether or not ultimately americans can defeat radical islam or whether or not civilized islam is going to have to be a big part of the ultimate victory. Even reasonableness, patty, from someone like rand paul is something that these debate watchers were looking for. The question is who is listening among the voters and where does rand paul make a stand and thats going to be a problem for him. Of course we have to talk about donald trump. He took a lot of heat over his anti muslim comments. Whats your assessment of how he made out . He took a lot of heat. Hes able to deflect that heat, though he did take less heat on other issues last night compared to other debates. I think candidates are saying i dont want to mess with this guy, because he always comes back at me. Ali velshi, our colleague and i were able to talk to him after the debate in the spin room last night. Friends of mine, muslim friends of mine who are phenomenal people have said to me you have done such a and these are really successful people by the way, you have done a tremendous service. People, i love the muslims and in have so many unbelievable relationships. I watched you the other night on television and i said you did a good job. Have any of these friends of yours challenged you . Some were not so happy, but some are really happy because im bringing out something we have to discuss. We have to discuss the problem. Do you think there is a way of getting that Problem Solved without being so strident. We have to get the Problem Solved. Donald trump always positive after these debates was no different last night. Thank you for breaking all of that down for yours and getting up so early this morning. We do appreciate it. Thank you, michael. Also interesting to come out of last nights debate afterwards, donald trump saying that he would not run as a third party candidate, which was quite significant. The candidates that didnt make the main stage sparring earlier, talking about fighting isil and stopping attacks. Lindsey graham apologized to muslims around the world and because of Donald Trumps comments policing that the muslims coming into the u. S. Should be banned. Hillary clinton taking a swipe at her republican rivals over the issue of isil and guns. It defies common sense that republicans in congress refuse to make it harder for potential terrorists to buy guns. If you are too dangerous to fly, you are too dangerous to buy a gun, period. Clinton saying the nation needs a comprehensive strategy to defeat isil, including occur tailing their recruitment overseas and at home. Well fact check the candidates over all claims made during the debate. Congress will likely have to pass another short term spending bill today. Negotiators are trying to finalize a deal to prevent a government shut down. House Speaker Paul Ryan says an agreement is in place to fund the government through 2016. It increases the deficit, extending dozens of popular tax breaks. It lifts the 40yearold ban on exporting u. S. Crude. A vote on the final deal is expected by the end of the week. Global Financial Markets are bracing for the first u. S. Interest rate hike in nearly a decade. The Federal Reserve is expected to raise its benchmark short term Interest Rate a quarter point today. Its been hovering near zero for seven years. Now the move will increase borrowing costs and could damping wages. Safes will win earning more on deposits. Jurors trying to reach a verdict in the first trial stemming from the death of freddie gray. They told the judge tuesday they were deadlocked. The trial is of Police Officers william porter. The judge told them to keep trying. What does this mean for the trial Going Forward . It means we are looking at the possibility of a mistrial. The jury came in at 3 30 yesterday afternoon, gave the judge aette note. We thought it was a question. On the piece of paper it said we are deadlocked. The judge said get back in there and try harder. They did until 5 30 eastern. Theyll be back at half past eight to try again. If they are hopelessly deadlocked, they will come before the judge again and he will say will more deliberations help or not. Hell have a conference with the lawyers and theyll declare a mistrial. Well be back here with a new date and new trial in the new year. Thats not to say the jury wont come to a decision, a verdict. They may well, but the possibility of a mistrial is looming. The defense early on calling for a mistrial. Why . Throughout the entire process, theyve been calling for the trial to be moved. They did so again yesterday. This was the drama of the day. They wanted a mistrial, because they said that the School District here had written to parents saying if any of your kids come out of school like in april and cause trouble, they will be punished. The defense felt that put pressure on the jury to find officer porter guilty. The judge again said no, no mistrial, we are not moving the trial out of the city of baltimore. These jurors can handle this. They are prepared to listen only to arguments in this courtroom. On the issue of a possibility of trouble after a verdict comes in, police moved vehicles, including Armored Vehicles inside a park center. They are coming out of howard and Randall County and are waiting in case there is any need to use them. The difference is between now and april, they came in after the crisis in april and they are here now. John, thank you very much. Students and teachers will soon head back to the classrooms in los angeles a day after the entire district was shut down due to a threat. Someone emailed the district promising to attack it with bombs and assault weapons. As al jazeera reports, it now appears that threat was a hoax. With kids already headed to school, just after 7 00 a. M. Local time tuesday, the Los Angeles School district made the decision to turn its buses back around and close its more than 900 schools because of a bomb threat, forcing 700,000 students to stay home. When you heard there was a bomb threat, what went through your mind . Initially, it was just terror, and all these questions of why would there be a bomb threat at our neighborhood schools. An email was sent late last night to School Board Members threatening violence at multiple School Campuses and that the attack would come through backpacks and packages. The School District said it had no choice but to close all schools. Based on past circumstances, i could not take the chance. At the same time, authorities in new york said they received a similar threat tuesday, but quickly concluded it was a hoax and took a very different course of action, keeping schools open. As leaders, it is our job to protect public order, and to keep things moving forward in this city, and to certainly not aid and abet those who want to so panic. To disrupt the daily scheduled of half a Million School children, their parents, day care, buses, based on an anonymous email, i think it was a significant overreaction. That remarks prompted a sharp response from the Current Police chief defending the closure. It is very easy in hindsight to criticize a decision based on results that the decider could never of known. An International School safety expert said todays district wide shutdown marks a New Territory for u. S. Law enforcement in the fight against terrorism. What is the analysis deciding whether a threat is actually credible . That thats a great question and the kind of question that our country needs to be asking right now, not saying that local officials shouldnt be involved in deciding, they should, with you without a National Criteria thats put forth through on what are the kinds of variabilities people should consider and what organizations should be part of that, youre going to see wide variation from city to city. If it wasnt for San Bernardino recently, its very questionable whether all the schools would be shut down. Its a specter of the San Bernardino attacks that weighs heavily on the minds of Southern California families. Im concerned for all of us. I think, you know, having thieves terrorist attacks happening in places that are as normal as the situation in San Bernardino where no one suspected anything is very unnerving. Especially for students who have occasionally prepared through lockdown drills. What goes through your mind when you practice doing that . Well, i know that its not real, but if it was real, i would be pretty scared. Lapd chief will have extra patrol officers on hand at school sites to make sure the transition back to the classroom goes absolutely. The state superintendent is looking beyond los angeles to every other School District in how best to respond to what they now call a new era of threats. Thats al jazeeras dana demetrius reporting from los angeles. One state official said the district could lose about 29 million in attendance funding because of the decision to close the schools. Three hours, the department of Homeland Security will announce changes to the governments terror alert system. Last week, secretary johnson said they need a system that better in forms the public about potential threats. The first alert system came about in the days after 9 11, using the color code to define the severity of the potential threat. It was confusing. Republican candidates selling their ideas to the nation. Some of them, well lets say they were less than accurate. Were going to fact check the president ial debate. Reaction from the Muslim Community. Were at a watch party with Muslim American republicans. Imagine what its going to be like dealing with the islamic terrorism that exists. This is a tough business. Youre a tough guy, jeb. We need to have a leader. Real tough. Youre never going to be president of the United States by insulting your way to the presidency. Im at 43, youre at two. So far im doing better. Doesnt matter. That was one of several heated exchanges last night. What did they have to say that was fact and what did they have to say that was fiction. John greenburg is a writer for pundit fact. He is live in washington, d. C. This morning. Thanks for being with us. More truths, half truths or flat out lies last night . Well, we dont do a complete roster, but there were some zingers. There were some actual truths said. There was also some errors of accuracy, let us say. So they said their names right, beyond that, well get to the bottom line. Ted cruz had this to say. Take a listen. President obama and Hillary Clinton are proposing bringing tens of thousands of Syrian Refugees to this country when the head of the f. B. I. Has told congress they cannot vet those refugees. Your opinion, was that fact or fiction . Well, you know, we rated that mostly false. The reason is, james comey was asked in a hearing can you guarantee that every refugee will be absolutely squeaky clean and he said no, we cant guarantee that, however on several other occasions, comey said we are Getting Better and better at vetting people. We do a thorough job. Our ability to do this is better today than it was in the past, so really, what that was all about wassal distortion of what comey had said. John, take a listen to what rand paul had to say about marco rubio. Take a listen. Ok. Basically what he says is that he is going to be strong on National Defense but that he believes that he is the weakest candidate on immigration. He is the one for an open border that is leaving us defenseless. Is that true or nontrue . Well, that statement got rand paul our highest order of distinction pants on fire. The reason is that he had to be referring back to that 2013 bill that rubio co sponsored sometimes called the gang of eight comprehensive immigration bill, and in that bill, there were billions and billions of dollars spent or would have been spent on hardening the border, so rubio even in that bill, which did create a pathway towards legalization for people who are here illegally now, even in that bill, there was lots of border security, and as a candidate and since that time, rubio has consistently said that the border must be secure, so there truly was no merit in what rand paul had to say. What about this statement from Carly Fiorina . One of the things i would immediately do in addition to defeating them here at home is bring back the warrior class, petraeus, mcchrystal, mad did you say, keen, flynn, every generals was retired early because they told president obama things that he didnt want to hear. Is that fact or fiction . Well, Carly Fiorina has a point, but her math is bad. Basically she named five generals, and of those, one of them retired in 2003, long before obama took office. Another one, petraeus was actually head of the c. I. A. But had to step down because of an investigation that he leaked classified documents to his biography, with whom, by the way, he was having an affair, and then youve got mcchrystal, who actually pushed on the president for a surge in afghanistan, largely got it, but then he talked in disparaging terms about people like Vice President biden with Rolling Stone magazine and that, talking shop in public did not go over very well at all, so bring that down, youve got two guys who left and clearly it was over some sort of policies difference, not a very good track record, so we ended up giving Carly Fiorina mostly false. John, that is why we come to you after each and every debate, John Greenburg joining us from washington, d. C. , thank you very much. My pleasure. One group of american muslims was watching the debate just outside washington, d. C. As al jazeeras bisi onileere found out, they had strong opinions on the candidates, the issues and most of all, donald trump. At a home in nonverbal, a little more than a dozen Muslim Americans from both sides of the political aisle taking the years last republican president ial debate. We are not talking about religion, we are talking about security. A no one Advocacy Group for american muslims held the gathering. As the candidates faced off, reaction heat up. Crime, gangs, terrorism is a problem, but so are other things that america is facing. Deadly attacks rocked paris and Southern California. With the u. S. Anally, ahmed said islamaphobia and anxiety within the Muslim Community is at its highest since 9 11. While the sentiment existed after 9 11, now its almost acceptable. During the two hour debate, the group rated the candidates on the. , such is a the syrian refugee crisis and security. How do you feel about what you heard today from this debate . Honestly, the National Security focus is probably the biggest thing on muslims minds, but what people dont realizes is isis and this whole movement in the middle east is most frightening to muslims. A topic of discussion was donald trump. Our country is out of control. People are pouring across the southern border. Since proposing a temporary ban on muslims entering the u. S. , trump has faced a firestorm of criticism, but his poll numbers have also surged. He is just one person, but the fact that when he says these types of things, his popularity goes up, thats actually more conning to me. As the race for the white house heats up, ahmed hopes the next elected leader will unit the nation instead of divide it. Bisi onileere, al jazeera, virginia. Nobel prize winner Malala Yousafzai says this. They should be really careful what they say. If your intention is to stop terrorism, do not try to blame the whole population of muslims for it, because it will not stop terrorism. It will create for terrorists. She was speaking tuesday, marking one year since a Taliban Attack killed almost 150 people at a school in pakistan. Most of those who died were children. She also reality rated her call for quality education around the world. Defense secretary ash carter now in iraq. Miss focus on the fight against isil and shoring up support from the government. Restricting sales of toy guns, one large state cracking down on fake firearms. There is so many changes in my life. I was ready for adventures. From burlesque dancer to acclaimed artists. Art saved my life. Reflections from her new memoir. No no no no no. Im way to dysfunctional to have an ordinary job. See what lies ahead for molly crabapple. Who emerges from life unscathed . I lived that character. We will be able to see change. The judge telling the jury to keep at it despite a deadlock, with my porter facing manslaughter charges. He is the first Baltimore City Police Officer to be charged for freddie grays death. Keeping the government open, the spending package includes more money for defense and domestic programs. The current funding expires at midnight. Theyll have to pass another short term deal before the longer term plan is approved. Preventing attacks and National Security dominating the Republican Debates. It was the last gop debate of the year. The candidate said competing strategies for fighting ice ail and also keeping the country safe. Theres one more Republican Debate and six weeks left before the Iowa Caucuses. Donald trump is defending his plan to ban muslims entering the u. S. He talked last night with mike sell sure and said his proposal had everything today with security. Look, i was overseas when you made your comments about muslims not coming in. Im canadian and muslim and was a little scared it wouldnt happen. No, no, theyre such amazing people, but we have to solve the problem. There is a problem with a certain small group and we have to get that Problem Solved because that small group can cause tremendous havoc. Youve seen that. Muslim friends of mine who are phenomenal people have said to me you have done such a and these are really successful people, by the way, you have done such a tremendous service. People, i love the muslims and i have so many unbelievable relationships. I watched you the other night on television and i said you did a good job. Have any of these friends of yours challenged you . Some were not so happy, but some are really happy because im bringing out something we have to discuss. We have to discuss the problem. Do you think there is a way of getting that Problem Solved without being so strident . We have to get the Problem Solved. A lot of people are really happy that i did it. Trumps message has been resonating in New Hampshire. Hes on top in the latest polls there and voters were closely watching last nights debate to see what he said. Libby casey has more from the state that will host the nations first primary. Even though voters say he goes too far such as saying muslims should be banned from coming to the United States, they are drawn to his rhetoric and to the fact that he is not worried about what people may think of him. Theyre also watching other candidates they feel are not following a Political Correctness standard, like Carly Fiorina. The question is more mainstream candidates, traditional candidates who served in office, can they make a dent here. Chris christie has been in the state a lot, done town halls, so voters are drawn to him. We will see marco rubio come to the state today. He has not spent much time at all in the granite state. Donald rump hasnt spent a lot of personal time here either. That hasnt seemed to hurt him even though he hasnt done that hands on approach these voters are used to, they are drawn to someone they say may be like a celebrity but find value in the way he is delivering his message. New hampshire serving as the stage for the next democratic debate taking operation saturday night. Defense secretary ash carter is in baghdad, talking to the top military commanders about ramping up the fight against isil. Hes explaining the u. S. Decision to send more special operations troops to iraq, something that baghdad has said it doesnt want. Al jazeeras Bernard Smith has all the details from istanbul where carter first stopped on tuesday. U. S. Defense secretary ash carter kicked off his tour in the middle east with a stop here en route in turkey for a message he is taking across the region, that is with that he wants turkey and gulf countries to do more to help the fight against isil. The u. S. Wants turkey to do more to target isil. They may have naval and air bases in the duffel region but wants the gulf countries to do more in terms of manpower, in terms of military hardware. Also while in iraq, hes been offering the administration in iraq a patchy helicopters to help bring the fight against the control for rimadi to help the iraqis consolidate the push against isil in rimadi. The iraqis have not said whether theyll take that help. The iraqi Prime Minister under pressure from shia groups not to accept that help but iraq may need extra help from apache helicopters to tang the city from isil. Two men arrested in austria for last week months paris attacks. Officials say both arrived in europe from the middle east. They have not released other details. 130 people died in those attacks that took place november 13. The Federal Reserve is expected to raise Interest Rates for the first time in nearly a decade. The fed signaled the economy is Strong Enough to handle it, but a group of low wage workers wants the fed to hold off. She is waiting for the economic recovery to visit her doorstep. A University Graduate who emigrated from ecuador four years ago, she earns 8. 75 an hour, working two jobs for a single employer she says pace her no overtime or benefits, even though she puts in 60 hours a week. I dont have nothing in my pocket, i dont have nothing in the bank. To make ends meet, she has taken two roommates to help on the rent with her queens after, forcing the 27yearold to share a bedroom with her ailing mother. My mother sleeps here and i sleep here. She has asked for a recognize and looked for another job, but the labor market is stacked against her, and shes worried it will get worse, because the Federal Reserve indicated it will raise Interest Rates for the first time in nine years when policy makers meet this week. When the Federal Reserve raises Interest Rates, it sets oh off a Chain Reaction that ripples through the jobs market, as borrowing costs go up, consumers buy fewer goods and services. Firms dont expand operations and hire more workers and sometimes cut back on the workforce they have, leaving employees in an even worse position to negotiate a raise. She has joined forces with other concerned citizens to form fed up, a campaign thats pressuring fed officials to prioritize job growth by keeping super rates low. I dont think people at the Federal Reserve really know what its like to share a room with your mom, to have to have roommates who are two total strangers. Ben wolcott is a Community Organizer for fed up. They look at numbers all day long but dont know the people behind them. Fed up members have introduced themselves. Following central bankers to their annual retreat in jackson hole wyoming. Dont forget about us in there, youre the only Federal Reserve we got. This month, briefing lawmakers on capitol hill in an economy the fed has signaled is Strong Enough to warrant an Interest Rate hike but needs to work for everyone, including people like her. When the fed say the economy is great, the economy is good, its a big, big lie. They they have to think about the economy for everybody. The research and policy director at the Economic Policy institute told us last hour here that a rate hike right now will hurt an already weak american economy. The data is far below what you want to see in a healthy economy, well below the 2 target and has been for years now and theres no sign of acceleration even in pretty recent data. Theoretically thats a worry that you can have an overheating economy that you really need to rein in, i dont think thats the economy we have today. It still needs more support from the fed. Todays increase, if they raise it there and then they Say Something along the lines of ok, further increases will be totally dependent object data, were not going to go raise until we actually see durable increases in wage and Price Inflation, then i think we come out ok. If todays rate is a signal that its going to be a regular rate increase and were going to try to hold the line and not let unemployment get far below what it is today, thats going to be really bad for low and moderate wage workers. They need tight labor markets to get wage increases. Todays increase signals that were not going to let them get those very tight labor markets, were not going to see wage increases for low and moderate wage workers. What the fed is trying to do is essentially nudge down the pace of Economic Growth so as they raise Interest Rates, that should raise the rates on credit card rates and adjustable mortgage rates, giving a little less money for households to spend. Its going to put a slowdown on the mortgage refinancing boom that provided lots of help to the economy for the last five or six years and probably most importantly, it sort of makes it more expensive for businesses who want to expand, open a new franchise, factory, hotel so all that Economic Activity gets nudged down. That means you stop downward progress on unemployment so you dont have really tight labor markets where workers can credibly say to their boss i need a raise or find one of those other plentiful jobs in the economy. Its an attempt to slow the pace of Economic Growth, meaning a looser labor market and less power for low and moderate wage workers. He said the fed can do a much better job in reeling back an economy thats growing too fast. He thinks it would be harmful would not be harmful for the fed to wait a little bit longer to raise rates. Motor americans say they are now against a ban on the sale of assault weapons. A new poll finding that 53 of those surveyed said they are against banning the sale of those weapons in 1994, that number was just 18 . The pollices showing few people surveyed are confident the government will be able to stop lone wolf attacks. New york cracking down on toy gun that look too real. John henry smith has our story. A similar gun was the one 12yearold tamir rice was holding when he was shot and killed by police in cleveland. Under the deal with new york state, the retailers have paid 27,000 in fines. Thats on top of the 300,000 some Big Box Stores like walmart, sears and kmart paid in their deal with the state earlier this year. Those stores also agreed to stop selling those replica guns. Gun Safety Advocates say new yorks campaign against realistic looking toy guns needs to be expanded nationwide. The fact that congress has chosen not to regulate this very pervasive and lethal Consumer Product is a great tragedy and shame that americans need to do something about. Half a dozen states have laws on the books dealing with toy guns. Another seven have introduced legislation to create or amend such laws. The new York Attorney general says that since 1994, there have been 63 shootings in new york state that involved realistic looking toy guns. Eight of those shot died. These amazon retailers, the 30 you talked about, were they the only ones selling toy guns in new york. Not at all. At the same time that he announced the settlement with 30 retailers, the a. G. Announced that he had also sent crease and desist letters to 65 third party toy gun sellers on amazon and two on the sears website. That may not be all. Thank you very much.
