Plus ill report on how this nigerian market is seeing business in unwanted goods from europe and america. Hello. The Islamic State of iraq is claiming a major victory in iraqs largest province. Its taken full control of the city where iraqi forces have been filmed fleeing. Its the capital of iraqs largest province. Its capture now means isil is closer to establishing supply lines from syria to iraq. Its just 110 kilometers west of iraqs capital baghdad. Isil dominates large swaths of land in iraq and syria including mosul in Northern Iraq and this city in syria. Crossing over to baghdad bringing in our reporter to bring you when were hearing on the latest about what the Iraqi Government is going to do about this. Reporter well, its under the control of isil. They launched a three will have day offensive threeday offensive first taking over the compound which houses government and Police Officers and then they moved on to take the last government stronghold the headquarters of the anbar commands center. There was a lot of fighting. We understand that up to 500 people were killed. Security forces and civilians. Some died in the fighting and others were executed. Isil usually executes people who were cooperating with the government. Yesterday the provincial council asked for the involvement of shia lead militias. The Prime Minister of iraq authorized their deployment and theyre now gathering and preparing for a counteroffensive against isil. This is a very controversial decision and will not be welcomed by many sunni tribal leaders. They said they will consider this an occupation of iran by their province. They are blaming the government for the fall of isil saying they should have given us weapons and mobiized local forces to engage in this battle instead of deploying and using shia militias in this fight. Thats the thing. There were promises that were made to arm the sunni tribes in places like an bar. Why did that not happen . Reporter well officials in baghdad politicians, government officials they have been reluctant to arm sunni tribes. They feel the sunni tribes the weapons they give them could end up in the hands of isil. Theres little trust between the shialed government province in baghdad. This is not just a military battle. The u. S. Secretary of state actually down played the significance of isils gains saying hes confident iraq will be able to capture the territory. The biggest question is what happens next. The shia led militias led the fighting in other militias and pushed isil out but people have not returned. Its not a peaceful province. Theres been attacks against secrity forces so its not just about clearing territory, recapturing territory. There needs to be reconciliation with the people and the people need to feel that they are part of iraq. That they have a say in the decisionmaking process. So a military battle alone, a victory could backfire without reconciliation. Okay. Thank you. The u. S.
