Reporter using politicians in south africa and how it got one cartoonist in trouble. In sport barcelona takes a step to winning the title and we have reaction to one of the largest european futbol. It has been exactly a year since an out break of ebola was confirmed in west africa over 10,000 people died in liberia, sierra leone and guinea and we look back now at how people in these countries coped and the stigma associated with the virus. Reporter when ebola was at its worst last year she was trying to save those he could and that is when he could the disease. Fortunately i survived it but working out in the Community People point their finger at me as the one who came down with the virus and people say he is the one, me and it becomes somehow discouraging and worry some. Reporter colleagues showing no symptoms were made to feel isolated. People could no longer come around me and i had to stay away because of that. Reporter despite the stigma proud is back at work. He has beat the virus and says its now time to beat the miss information about the disease. Thats what liberias government wants to do as well. In a few weeks the World Health Organization had hoped to declare the country ebola free but that is now not going to happen because of the new case discovered days ago. It left many here worried. Discouraged but its a bad war. Our children i will delay their education and to hear there is a new outbreak of ebola is very very discouraged and im feeling very bad about that. Reporter ebola has spread at an aggressive pace criminalingly daily life and all schools were closed for six months and in one year the disease has crisscrossed borders killing more than 10,000 people across west africa. Experts have traced the source here in guinea. This is a spot where it is believed bats infected a toddler triggering the epidemic and also effected sierra leone and nigeria. The countries affected hope the worst is over now and that could very well be the case if themty Treatment Center in liberia is anything to go by, al jazeera. There is a report that has just been published by doctors without dorr borders and criticizing the international slow response to the outbreak and we can speak to henry gray who is the ebola task coordinator and is now live from brussels and in your report you are pretty scathing of the rate of reaction coming from w. H. O. Can you quantify how long that delay was and how much it might have cost in terms of the transmission of the disease and indeed lives lost . Its very difficult to put an actual figure on the number of lives lost. What is very clear is that despite warnings in march last year it took until august until there was a World Health OrganizationEmergency HealthEmergency Court and that meant that u. N. Member states in particular but also the governments involved didnt give the outbreak the importance it needed to control. Why do you think that was . Was it a matter of just inefficiency . Its difficult. I mean there are certainly problems within the World Health Organization institutionally, structurally. There were alarms from the field that were not heard in their headquarters but it goes beyond that and it isnt just the problems within the w. H. O. It is wider to the u. N. Member states. And so what do you think was behind the Member States of the United Nations not responding to what you could quite clearly see was a crisis in the making . That is a very good question. Im afraid i cant answer that. All we know is that the delay that was caused by states in w. H. O. Cost valuable time in preparing a response. We are in a different place today but we should be much further along. Now obviously we have approached w. H. O. In order to put criticism to it and waiting for reply in geneva but it sounds very much from this report that m. S. F. Or Doctors Without Borders under unimaginable pressure as an organization spreading itself through three separate countries. Absolutely and have not done everything like we would like to have done and we made mistakes and a small point of experts before this outbreak but since march of last year we up to 1300 and took part in emissions and 4,000 staff trained within the three countries effected. But we had to look very hard at ourselves as well. This is not just a hatchet job against the w. H. O. But its really a reflection that the world is not prepared for an outbreak for this magnitude and what worries m. S. F. Is its another outbreak in another part of the world with similar background and similar set up to the three countries in west africa, we will have another problem and another huge problem which will cost lives. For now henry gray thank you very much indeed and we have to leave it there, henry gray of Doctors Without Borders, thank you. Reporter not all are on strike and some are still working in the fields and producers here argue its possible for them to earn a decent living and without the workers picking the crops those are lost and valuable profits with them so its in the interest not just of these farm workers but also producers to bring this dispute to a close sooner rather than later. Has been around for a week and we can call him nathan the ancient and its for the aisles and top end of australia and nathan across cape york and its here now but its a big mass of clouds and a mess to be honest and its a cold cycle and category two on the australian scale. This is a view from yesterday where it was near the airport and rounds the corner there is a long beach and it could cause a certain amount of trouble and disruption and flooding and wind damage and category two and rain might be the most obvious thing, 226 fell over the last few days and it has been around for quite a while and around for a few more days and the winds are 100 kilometers gusting to 140 and drifting northwest but it will turn and the curve actually takes it more or less through darwin and then out to sea. Given where it is and the time of year it may well strike darwin but not a particularly strong storm but notably all the same. Reporter u. N. And council led by saudi arabia andicka shaktar and u. S. Are trying to broker a peace deal but they seemed to reject those efforts. Translator Security Council usually supports offender against victim and meets only when it sees the evil conspiring and criminal hands are in a dangerous situation. Reporter Security Council did leave the door open to take further measures in case of resolutions on yemen but did not specify what those measures might be. So far no actions by diplomates at the u. N. Has halted or even slowed the political or security crisis facing yemen, a crisis that is getting worse everyday gabrielle with al jazeera, u. N. We can speak to a senior columnist with the Saudi Gazette and is in saudi arabia and tell us how the increasingly alarming situation in yemen is being viewed from saudi arabia . And of course saudi arabia shares a border. Of course and its a long border so we are saying part of this border is very difficult to control and the mountain areas and also the desert area is uninhabited or villages on both sides and whatever you could do you cannot stop it completely the notifications of an explosion on the other side. So what did the saudi authorities, what are they prepared to do . Clearly there has been a Diplomatic Initiative at the u. N. Under the egis of g. C. C. And introduced to the emergency session of the Security Council, what else is saudi arabia prepared to do . The other members of g. C. C. Accepted the call from president haidi to come to saudi arabia and all faction are invited including the houthis to have a dialog peaceful dialogs to solve the problem. The houthis and their partners of branch of Congress Party refuse to come and insisting on either you have this in sanaa or they want a tent. And now they even raised the stakes higher by attempting to go to aiden as we hear that there are forces their forces are moving at the moment towards aiden. Reporter there for the ball is back in the court one would imagine of the g. C. C. Would the g. C. C. Suggest then that talks take place within yemen borders . Why the yemen borders, they are not safe in yemen or sanaa and they are all controlled by either parties of the conflict so it has to be in a natural place and since the Initiative Came first from the gulf, the g. C. C. Countries and since the headquarters of g. C. C. Country is in rhea and ryheeah and specified hyheeah as the place and accepting this except houthis and g. C. C. Members are calling for faster procedures to have the talks as soon as possible, time is running out. For now thank you very much indeed for giving us the very latest on the yemen situation from the saudi perspective, thank you very much. Right wing parties have won the most votes in frances local elections and former president conservative party and allies are leading in the first round and far right is in second place and leader is hoping to build on the momentum for a president ial bid in 2017. Lets go live to correspondent Jackie Roland live from the french capitol so it is seen very much as though france has voted definitely to the right and many people expressing relief this morning i would imagine that its not in vast numbers for lepenn and the National Front. Well thats because opinion polls are often misleading. I think sometimes too much weight is given to opinion polls and treated as though they are scientific and given a suggestion or indication of how people are thinking at the time they are polled and also it depends on people actually telling the truth about how they are going to vote when it comes to election day itself and lets have a look at how the main newspaper here in france are reporting on the results of this first around and this is a left leaning newspaper and you see you have got the three frances and at the top you have got Nicholas Sarkozy leader who came out top on sunday and penn from the socialist party. Interestingly they show the Prime Minister rather than the president as being the personality to represent the socialist party. Moving on now to the bigger one, this is the larger paper, its the right leaning paper close to the u. N. P. And its headline is u. N. P. Wins National Front moves in and socialist party steps back and obviously sarkozy and lepenn and talking about the Prime Minister. Finally this local paper for us here in paris simply headline sarkozy and divided left and less strong than predicted the leader of u. N. P. Appears as the viktor of victor and that was live from the first rounds of voting. Jacky thank you very much. Forces from chad have killed several dozen boko haram militants in Northern Nigeria and offensive took place in borno state in the village across the border and military Officials Say helicopter bombs destroyed several vehicles and motorcycles carrying fighters, this is the latest move in a joint force mission to take down boko haram and we report from one of the battle fronts in northeastern nigeria. Reporter preparing for attack on boko haram, the troops are upbeat about this assignment after resent successes against the group. But as their commander was about to lead them out, the mission was aborted. A large number of boko haram fighters who are seen heading their way. Every soldier is told to go to the trenches. From attack mode to defense, a posture they know too well after six years of insurgency. And the coup was ordered to get out of town. Attacks by military and counter attacks are all too familiar. The last two months have been particularly tough for boko haram. Haram. The soldiers have been injected but we have new equipment between our february we can mention we change the tide of the battle. Reporter battles have been won in many areas but the war is not over yet. Military may changed boko haram out of many towns and villages but all in the same areas presents a difficult challenge and fighters return to attack the same villages by the military and keeping a lot of people away from their homes. But some are simply tired of running. Translator we put our hopes in the military so far im encouraged like everyday is your last day and that is not a good feeling. Reporter all around the northeast are signs of devastation. Of sabotage and unprovoked violence. This decertained village is an ambush point for boko haram, many have died here. Territories may have been reclaimed but the human and material cost of this violence are irreplaceable, im with al jazeera, northeast nigeria. So the insecurity then caused by boko haram in the northeast part of nigeria is a core of the president ial campaign in nigerias election which is to be held on saturday. Its expected to be the closest race since the end of military rule 16 years ago and ron cummings is a security analyst and joins us live from cape town in south africa. And im just wondering whether you think that this turn around this apparent turn around what is behind this security turn around, what do you make of the speed and efficacy of response to boko haram in the northeast of nigeria . I it can be argued a combination of issues and seen improved resources allocates to the nigeria army. We have seen also the coordination of Multi National forces nigerias neighbors obviously providing assistance in fighting boko haram and i think this is really aided and boko haram was seemingly operating across the lake chad region with relative impunity and for nigeria the operations were limited to borders and boko haram was obviously operating in neighboring countries, nigeria did not have mandate to launch in these regions and coordination of resources and operations at this stage is possibly quite focal to their significant gains we have seen being made against the extremist sector. So if the government and its allied forces are establishing significant gains in this particularly blighted region what is happening to the boko haram fighters those who are not killed or captured what is happening to them . Its very difficult to say at this point and i think what has been quite conspicuous with these operations so far is we have not really been made privy to the pitfalls of boko haram fighters that have been captured and there is speculation of what may be happening is that being retained by nigeria and their allies is basically hand which may have not necessarily been occupied by boko haram at the time that it has been retaken suggestions that the states themselves may just be going in the region which borders cameroon and nigeria and said to be a boko haram operational stronghold and can be cases of boko haram fighters melting in between displaced persons and actually moving with these people outside of the primary conflict zones. So, again, verifiable information and very difficult to say what is happening on the ground. Thank you very much indeed ron cummings security analyst live from cape town thank you.
